Accommodations

With four plush staterooms, each with its own en-suite bath, guests have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy their time on board. The Primary Suite features a King bed, walk-in closet, dressing vanity, flat-screen TV, along with an oversize primary bath with double sinks and marble shower. The VIP Queen Suite features a queen bed, ample storage, flat-screen TV, as well as its own full private bath. Two twin cabins each with a pair of single beds and private full baths flank each side of the lower hall.

The Outta Touch offers 3 unique dining spaces, inside and out. The aft deck outdoor dining space offers guests a fine culinary experience amidst the beauty of the open sea. The expansive hardwood deck is adorned with a finely curated table setting and comfortable seating, providing an inviting atmosphere for savoring exquisite meals. Inside, the large formal dining room can comfortably seat 8 guests surrounded by cherrywood walls and tastefully curated art. The fly bridge dining space provides guests with sweeping views of nearby islands in an elevated and intimate setting.

Captain - Kobus Nieuwoudt Kobus started his yachting career in 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa on sailing charters and experiences. In 2016, he worked on sailing catamaran charters in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and surrounding islands. He got into yachting because of his love for sailing and exploring new exotic locations. When asked what is his favorite location to which he has traveled, he says Bequia, an island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is one of his “most favorite places in the world.” Kobus is confident and passionate about his work and continuously strives to make each guest´s experience aboard a vessel memorable in every way. Stewardess - Mackenzie Johnson A true Floridian, born and raised. Before my career as a Stewardess, I was a Nurse Recruiter who always had a passion for traveling the world. I began my yachting career 3 years ago in Fort Lauderdale, FL. My fiancé and I have now been working together for the past 3 years, working on both Private, Charter boats and estates. The most gorgeous place I have traveled to is Grenada, just north of Venezuela, but I truly love all of the Caribbean and the breath-taking views. The easiest part of my job is getting along with the guests. I truly enjoy service and I will treat you with utmost respect onboard. My goal is to show you places you have yet to explore, while giving you the best experience. I have extensive wine knowledge and enjoy pairing Chef´s dishes with wine. I used to be a student athlete and played softball in college. Growing up I played almost every sport. I love the outdoors, exploring, snorkeling, and visiting new beaches! Chef - Ricky Velez Mexican American 3rd Generation Chef. I have been cooking professionally for 10+ years in 5 star restaurants, resorts, country clubs, French bakeries and super yachts. This experience has trained me to deliver top notch food in many international cuisines. Since I am part of the young generation of chefs who love to play with the boundaries of gastronomy and newest trends including fusions and molecular gastronomy. I enjoy science, working out and exploring new things. His favorite location to which he has traveled is the Exumas, Bahamas, known for its crystal-clear waters and year-round pleasant weather. They will guide guests as they explore the underwater world, discover amazing places ashore and recreate or relax aboard, enjoying extraordinary hospitality and unparalleled culinary experiences. Come join them for the adventure of a lifetime!<br /> Captain Keith learned to sail Sunfish and Hobie Cats with friends on Big Stone Lake in South Dakota. He grew up fishing, waterskiing, and boating on the lakes in SD. Keith is an accomplished freshwater and saltwater angler and certified PADI Divemaster.<br /> He discovered his passion for sailing keelboats and catamarans in the BVI. In 2002, he put a picture of a Jeanneau 43 Deck Salon on his refrigerator and eighteen months later, he bought a sister ship of the one depicted on his fridge! He earned his first Captain’s license in 2005 and began delivering yachts coastwise and roundtrip to the Caribbean. He dreamed of becoming a superyacht skipper. Keith is in his sixth year of skippering charters in the Caribbean. Keith enjoys leading guests on spectacular SCUBA dives, sharing the thrills of watersports, leading hikes, and sharing historical highlights of the islands. <br /> Keith also has a background in the hospitality industry and loves to entertain. Whether manning the grill or the bar, Keith takes immense pride in delivering an exceptional experience to guests. He is an accomplished amateur “Sous Chef” and Mixologist, and oenophile. As the Captain, he finds joy in leading a great crew while serving and helping others. <br /> <br /> Having grown up on the coast of North Carolina, AJ spent her youth on and in the waters of the Atlantic coastal area. She began her diving adventures at the age of fourteen and became a PADI Dive Instructor at the age of twenty-two. Sharing the underwater world with seasoned divers, new divers, and students is a lifelong passion. In addition to her years of diving she has also crewed on fishing charters.<br /> Sailing and boating was major part of her life while growing up. She spent years pleasure boating and crewing on deliveries with her uncle, enjoying pleasure boating crewing on boat deliveries up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Most recently she has become an extremely competent sailor while crewing on deliveries from Annapolis to St. Martin, the BVI’s to Bonaire, and Annapolis to Charleston, SC. Her calm demeanor and “can do” spirit assure that all on board feel safe and are able to enjoy the experience. <br /> AJ spent her college years working her way through school in the restaurant industry. This ignited a passion in her for food preparation, exploration, and presentation!! She was also involved in the opening of an extraordinarily successful restaurant in Charlotte, NC. In 2021, AJ attended the prestigious Ashburton Cookery and Chef’s Academy. She won First Prize in both the entrée and dessert categories at the VIPCA Charter Yacht Show in St. Thomas, USVI in 2021. These experiences and her natural Southern Hospitality will insure you enjoy a fabulous culinary experience during your yachting adventure!!<br /> <br /> Niko (Nicholas) Caldellis:<br /> Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, Niko’s love for adventure and the outdoors came at a young age. With the abundance of mountains, rivers, lakes and the great ocean it is difficult for one to stop exploring the Northwest. Camping, hiking, fishing, boating and snowboarding are some of his favorite activities to mention a few. He has recently been trying to spend as much time as possible in the water, freediving, scuba diving, and spearfishing. His passion for boats and the ocean stems from fishing and crabbing with his family in the Puget Sound. As a young child, crab boils, salmon, cod, and halibut fresh from the waters of the Salish Sea were quite frequent during summer break. With Niko’s Greek family culture and food being the center of any gathering, he also very much enjoys cooking. Some have said that his cooking is good enough for him to put on a chef jacket and pursue his passion for food.<br /> When Niko is not cooking or spending time in the outdoors, you would probably find him working on one of his many toys or projects. He restored a beautiful 1958 18ft classic wooden boat, learning by trial and error. He built an overland vehicle out of a not so well running or maintained 1994 Ford Bronco. It’s now equipped with a bed, solar power, fridge, and all the camping equipment you could possibly need. He has always been fascinated with mechanics and how things operate. I guess you could say that holding the flashlight as a child for his dad while working on vehicles shaped him into who he is today.<br /> Niko’s boating career kickstarted in 2014 with an Atlantic crossing from Antigua to Palma de Mallorca. Once he was opened to the world of different cultures, working and traveling on boats was an easy decision for him to pursue. After spending a few seasons working on yachts in the Mediterranean, Niko returned to Seattle and worked for a boat detailing company learning the proper way to maintain a boat. Following this, he managed a boat rental company in Seattle instructing people how to safely operate and navigate boats on the water. He was also one of the lead mechanics to keep all the boats operating to their full potential. Further, Niko has worked on all types of yachts in Alaska, West Coast, East Coast, and all around the Caribbean. He has worked his way up from Deckhand to Deck/Engineer to Mate and now Engineer/Mate. He also holds his 100-ton US Coast Guard captain’s license, with plans to upgrade to a 200-ton license.<br /> Niko’s wide range of experience and worldly travels gives him the knowledge and confidence to give charter guests the best experience they could have under his watch. With his relaxed demeanor and outgoing personality, he is sure to be well liked among all guests and crew.<br /> <br /> Samantha (Sammie) Elston:<br /> Born and raised in South Africa, where she had the pleasure of growing up with her siblings and cousins. On the weekends they would enjoy spending time (tubing/jet skiing/knee boarding) on the water at the Vaal River. She also had many great experiences camping and exploring at the coast line with her family. She did my junior open water one scuba course at 13, as she wanted to explore the ocean on another level. <br /> After matriculating, she waitressed for 6 months, then went into teaching at a pre-school, and decided to study Montessori, as she has a passion for working with children, to help them discover themselves and guide them to their full growth and potential. Having pursued this career for 10 years she felt the need to make a monumental change and take a leap of faith to join the Yachting Industry, which has taught her many new skills and life lessons. <br /> Sammie’s Yachting adventures started in Italy, Viareggio as Sole Cook/Stew on a 46m M/Y during the crazy time of Covid in 2020, the yacht was for sale, she took care of all interior cleaning, crew meals, tending to guests, sea trials and made sure potential buyers were comfortable and had a great viewing of the vessel. The yacht sold after 5 months of being there, the owners then asked her to join their yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on a 55m M/Y. She continued her position as Sole Cook/Stew there for 6 more months then the yacht headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico where the owners moved on board to live permanently, with 4 beautiful Labradors. Her position changed to 2nd Stewardess, she later joined a new yacht in West Palm Beach, Florida to gain some experience as a Galley Hand/Stew on a 63m M/Y. <br /> Yachting has really opened her eyes and heart to how much she truly has a deep love and great respect for the ocean. Why the U.S. put a $1 million bounty on a Russian yacht’s alleged manager

On Sept. 3, 2020, the staff of a $90 million yacht placed an order with a U.S. company for a set of luxury bathrobes that came to $2,624.35.

For roughly two years before that, according to federal prosecutors, the yacht’s management had been falsely claiming it was working for a boat named “Fanta.” But the luxury bathrobes came embroidered with a monogram that, prosecutors said, revealed the yacht’s true identity: “Tango.”

That was a problem, officials say in court papers, because Tango was owned by a Russian billionaire under U.S. sanctions, and doing business on his behalf violated federal law.

Late last month, U.S. authorities unveiled a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and or conviction of the man they say was running the yacht staff and orchestrated the deception with the robes — Vladislav Osipov, 52, a Swiss-based businessman from Russia. In a new indictment , federal prosecutors say Osipov misled U.S. banks and companies into doing business with the Tango yacht despite the sanctions on the Russian owner, whom the Justice Department has identified as billionaire Viktor Vekselberg .

Osipov has denied the allegations. Osipov’s attorney has said that the government has failed to demonstrate that Vekselberg owned the yacht, and that its management was therefore not a sanctions violation.

The reward offer for Osipov reflects the latest stage in the evolution of the West’s broader financial war against Russia two years into the war in Ukraine, as the United States and its allies increasingly target intermediaries accused of enabling Russian oligarchs to circumvent sanctions.

Many Russians close to President Vladimir Putin have been under sanctions dating to 2014, when Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine and sent proxy forces into that country’s eastern Donbas region. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, President Biden vowed to deal a “crushing blow” with a barrage of new sanctions on financial institutions, industries, business executives and others tied to the Kremlin. But roughly two years later, Russia’s economy has proved surprisingly resilient after the nation poured tens of billions of dollars into ramping up its military industry. Moscow has also worked around the sanctions, finding new third parties to supply it with critical military and industrial hardware, as well as countries beyond Europe to buy its oil.

Now, the West is trying to increase the reach of its sanctions by digging deeper into Russian supply chains. Late last month, the Treasury Department announced more than 500 new sanctions targeting Russia , primarily on military and industrial suppliers. The Justice Department also announced charges against two U.S.-based “facilitators” of a Russian state banker who is under sanction, as well as the guilty plea of a dual national based in Atlanta who was accused of laundering $150 million through bank accounts and shell companies on behalf of Russian clients.

Prioritizing criminal charges against — and the arrests of — Western employees of Russia’s elites represents a new escalation of the U.S. financial war against Putin, experts say. One Moscow businessman, speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said many influential Russians are concerned about the arrest of two associates of Andrey Kostin, the head of VTB, Russia’s second-biggest state bank. These associates, Vadim Wolfson and Gannon Bond, were charged with helping Kostin evade sanctions by maintaining a $12 million property in Aspen, Colo., for Kostin’s benefit while concealing his ownership. Kostin has said that the charges of sanctions evasion against him are “unfounded” and that he has not violated any laws . Bond has pleaded not guilty; Wolfson hasn’t made an initial court appearance yet.

Wolfson, also known as Vadim Belyaev, had been a Russian billionaire until the Russian government took over his bank in 2017. Bond, 49, is a U.S. citizen from Edgewater, N.J. For all Russians living abroad and working with people in Russia, the threat of criminal charges is a much more worrying prospect than the sanctions imposed by the Treasury Department last month against hundreds of individuals and entities, the businessman said, in part because sanctions are far easier to dodge than criminal charges.

“What you have seen through today’s public announcements are our efforts at really targeting the facilitators who possess the requisite skill set, access, connections that allow the Russian war machine [and] the Russian elites to continually have access to Western services and Western goods,” David Lim, co-director of the Justice Department’s KleptoCapture task force, which is tasked with enforcing U.S. sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, told reporters last month.

Thad McBride, an international trade partner at the law firm Bass Berry & Sims, said the crackdown on intermediaries reflected the natural evolution of the U.S. sanctions campaign in response to Russian adjustments.

“It seems to me they have gone through a comprehensive list of the oligarchs, and you can debate whether or not it’s had a meaningful impact on the Russian war effort,” McBride said. “Because they’re getting smarter about who’s who, they’re finding other people who play meaningful roles in these transactions, even though they’re not showing up in the headlines.”

The charges against Osipov related to his alleged management of the Tango yacht illustrate the mounting potential consequences for people in Europe and the United States who attempt to do business with Russians targeted by Western allies, as well as the opaque structures allegedly employed by those seeking to evade sanctions.

With a net worth estimated by Forbes in 2021 at $9 billion, Vekselberg, 66, has long drawn scrutiny from the West — and sought to safeguard his wealth. He made his initial fortune in aluminum and oil in Russia’s privatization of the 1990s and then expanded into industrial and financial assets in Europe, the United States and Africa, with Putin’s blessing. In addition to the yacht, federal prosecutors say, Vekselberg acquired $75 million worth of properties, including apartments on New York’s Park Avenue and an estate in the Long Island town of Southampton.

Vekselberg, who declined to comment for this article, has not been criminally charged by the Justice Department. In a 2019 interview with the Financial Times, he denounced the sanctions as arbitrary and harmful for international business, saying he had been targeted just because he was Russian and rich and knows Putin.

In April 2018, the Treasury Department under the Trump administration sanctioned Vekselberg and six other Russian oligarchs as part of broader financial penalties over the Kremlin’s invasion of Crimea, support for President Bashar al-Assad in Syria and interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Vekselberg was also targeted for his work for the Kremlin as chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation, an attempt to create Russia’s version of the Silicon Valley — evidence that appeared to undermine the Russian businessman’s claims that he operated independently of the Kremlin.

But with Vekselberg’s payments monitored by U.S. banks, according to the federal indictment , Osipov used shell companies and intermediaries to avert the bite of sanctions. Vekselberg kept other major assets out of the reach of U.S. authorities by making use of the Treasury Department’s 50 percent ownership rule, which stipulates that it is illegal to transact with firms only if an owner under sanction controls more than 50 percent of the business.

For example, a month after Treasury imposed sanctions on Vekselberg in April 2018, his Renova Innovation Technologies sold its 48.5 percent stake in Swiss engineering giant Sulzer to Tiwel Holding AG, a group that is nevertheless still “beneficially owned” — meaning, owned in practice — by Vekselberg through Columbus Trust, a Cayman Islands trust, according to Sulzer’s corporate filing. Vekselberg’s longtime right-hand man at Renova, Alexei Moskov, replaced one of Vekselberg’s direct representatives on the board. Moskov told The Washington Post that he stepped down from all his executive positions at Renova Group in 2018 after U.S. sanctions were first imposed and from that moment ceased to be Vekselberg’s employee.

The attempts to circumvent the sanctions appear to have found some success in the U.S. legal system. Columbus Nova, a U.S.-based asset management fund controlling more than $100 million in assets in the U.S. financial and tech industry, is run by Vekselberg’s cousin, Andrew Intrater. The firm battled for more than two years to lift a freeze on Columbus Nova’s assets, imposed by Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control because of the sanctions on Vekselberg, and won, reaching a settlement agreement with the Treasury Department. After renaming itself Sparrow Capital LLC, Columbus Nova successfully argued that Intrater — not Vekselberg — owns the fund. Intrater argued that the company was 100 percent owned by U.S. citizens and that no individual or entity under sanction held any interest in it. Intrater said Columbus Nova had earned fees for managing investment funds owned by Renova. He said he had repeatedly told Treasury he would not distribute any funds to Vekselberg.

Now Osipov, the alleged manager of Vekselberg’s $90 million yacht, is attempting a similar argument as U.S. authorities seek his arrest on charges of bank fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and violations of sanctions law.

The federal indictment states that the Tango was owned by a shell corporation registered in the British Virgin Islands that was in turn owned by several other companies. The Virgin Islands shell company, authorities say, was controlled by Osipov, who also served in senior roles for multiple companies controlled by Vekselberg. U.S. officials also say Vekselberg ultimately controlled the other companies that owned the Virgin Islands shell company.

According to the indictment, a Tango official instructed a boat management company in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, to use a false name for the yacht — “Fanta” — to disguise its true identity from U.S. financial institutions and firms, which try to avoid doing business with an entity or person under sanction.

Working at Osipov’s direction, according to the indictment, employees for Tango bought more than $8,000 worth of goods for the yacht that were unwittingly but illegally processed by U.S. firms and U.S. financial institutions, including navigation software, leather basket magazine holders provided by a bespoke silversmith, and web and computing services. The management company running Tango, run by Osipov, also paid invoices worth more than $180,000 to a U.S. internet service provider, federal prosecutors say.

The Tango was seized by the FBI and Spanish authorities in the Mediterranean not long after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and Osipov was first indicted last year. The owner of the Spanish yacht management company hired by Osipov, Richard Masters, 52, of Britain, was criminally charged last year by federal prosecutors with conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating federal sanctions law. A request for comment sent to Masters’ firm was not returned.

But in recent court documents, Osipov’s attorney argues that the yacht was not more than 50 percent owned by Vekselberg, and that the government hasn’t demonstrated it was. Barry J. Pollack, an attorney at Harris, St. Laurent and Wechsler, also says the government never warned Osipov of its novel and “unconstitutional” application of federal sanctions law.

“The government points to no precedent that supports its extraordinary interpretation and cites no authority that allows the traditional rules of statutory construction to be turned on their head,” Pollack wrote in a defense filing. The filing adds: “[Osipov] is not a fugitive because he did not engage in any of the allegedly criminal conduct while in the United States, has never resided in the United States, did not flee from the United States, and has not concealed himself.”

Still, the State Department’s Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program has said it will provide up to $1 million for information leading to Osipov’s arrest, warning that he may visit Herrliberg, Switzerland; Majorca, Spain; or Moscow.

The case demonstrates the extent of the U.S. commitment to tighten the screws on those seen as aiding Russian elites, even if they themselves are not closely tied to the Kremlin.

“When DOJ levels legal action against an individual or entity, they have quite a bit of evidence, especially because the threshold to press charges for money-laundering and sanctions evasion is so high,” said Kim Donovan, director of the Economic Statecraft Initiative within the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center. “We’ve had quite a bit of experience targeting Russia directly, and what you’re starting to see is the U.S. go after the facilitators enabling sanctions evasion. That’s where the U.S. is focusing its efforts right now.”

DeSantis details alarming find aboard Haitian migrant boat seized off Florida coast

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday that state law enforcement had intercepted a vessel coming to the Florida coast carrying dozens of Haitian migrants, as well as firearms, drugs and night vision gear.

"Our Florida Fish and Wildlife offices interdicted a vessel that had 25 illegal immigrants, potential illegal immigrants from Haiti in their boat. In their vessel they had firearms, they had drugs, they had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly, which would potentially endanger other folks," DeSantis said, adding that the interdiction had occurred "recently" in the last few weeks.

"That vessel was interdicted near the Sebastian Inlet and those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation," he said.

DeSantis made the announcement at a press conference in which he also signed three pieces of legislation to deter illegal immigration into the Sunshine State.

The Republican governor had earlier this week announced an increase of personnel and aircraft to the Florida coast in light of unrest in Haiti and the potential for an increase in migration via the sea from the conflict-hit country.

The Caribbean nation has seen a significant escalation in violence as gangs have overrun the capital, burning police stations and attacking the main airport. Gangs have also raided some of the largest prisons, releasing thousands of inmates.

The deployment in Florida includes 48 additional National Guardsmen with four additional helicopters, 39 officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 30 additional Florida Highway Patrol officers with aircraft and drones, and 23 additional officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with eight additional seacraft, according to DeSantis' office.

He stressed on Friday that this had been going on for a while, and this was an increase in enforcement and not a new operation. He said that from Jan 2023 last week, officials had assisted the Coast Guard with the interdiction of 670 vessels carrying over 13,500 illegal immigrants.

"The message is the last thing you should want to do is get on a boat and think you're going to come through from any of these islands to get to the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "The most likely scenario is you'll be stopped, and you will be returned to your country of origin."

"It's a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing, and we have the resources to continue to keep the people of Florida safe."

On Tuesday, Rebecca Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, told lawmakers that the Pentagon is "alert" to the possibility of a mass migration event, but it has also not yet seen large numbers.

"I think you’re right that the driving conditions in Haiti could very well press more people," she told Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. "We recently approved some additional assistance we could provide to the Coast Guard."

The Department of Homeland Security has also said it is monitoring the situation, but has stressed that migration flows in the Caribbean remain "low." It also warned that those crossing face being turned back to their country of origin.

"U.S. policy is to return noncitizens who do not have a fear of persecution or torture or a legal basis to enter the United States. Those interdicted at sea are subject to immediate repatriation pursuant to our longstanding policy and procedures. The United States returns or repatriates migrants interdicted at sea to The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti," a spokesperson said.

On Friday, DeSantis also signed three pieces of legislation related to immigration. One increased the maximum sentence for people driving without a license. Another enhances penalties for crimes committed by illegal immigrants who return to the country after deportation, while the third bill states that no jurisdiction can recognize IDs that are distributed by other states to illegal immigrants.

Where is Indian Lake?

Indian Lake is in Logan County, about 70 miles northwest of Columbus.

How big is Indian Lake?

The lake is about 5,100 acres, making it the third largest lake in Ohio, behind Grand Lake St. Marys (13,500 acres) in Auglaize and Mercer counties and Mosquito Creek Lake (7,850 acres) in Trumbull County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. In addition, Pymatuning Reservoir, which straddles Ohio and Pennsylvania, covers 14,000 acres.

Is Indian Lake natural?

Indian Lake is man-made. According to the ODNR , it began in 1851 as "Old Indian Lake," a feeder lake for the Miami & Erie Canal. A bulkhead completed in 1860 allowed the lake, then called Lewiston Reservoir, to grow to more than 6,300 acres. Although Indian Lake is very shallow, with an average depth of 6 feet, it has largely been spared the algae that has stained other Ohio lakes because of the Indian Lake Watershed Project, established in the 1990s to keep the water clean.

How many people live on Indian Lake?

About 1,300 people live in the lake's largest town, Russells Point, and another 1,200 live down the road in Lakeview, both on the lake's southern shore. Hundreds more live around the lake, many of them in seasonal trailer parks and campgrounds, making the area vulnerable to storms.

What is Indian Lake best known for?

For decades, an amusement park and dance halls along the lake's southern rim drew visitors from miles around and provided the lake's nickname, the "Midwest's Million Dollar Playground." The last bits of the amusement park were torn down in the early 1980s; only the I ndian Lake Rollarena in Russells Point provides a hint of the lake's entertainment past.

No. The Cowsills' 1968 Top 10 hit "Indian Lake" is thought to be based on a lake in Upstate New York.

What is housing like around Indian lake?

Much of Indian Lake's homes remain trailers in campgrounds, especially on the north and west sides of the lake. But a growing number of large new homes have been built on the lake this century, especially on the lake's multiple islands and eastern shore. Many of the older, modest homes still sell under $100,000, but newer homes can command more than half a million dollars. The lake's real-estate landed it a spot on the HGTV shows "Island Life" and "Island Hunters."

What impact did the storms have on the lake's state park?

The ODNR has closed Indian Lake State Park, on the west side of the lake, until further notice. "ODNR staff and other emergency crews will assess the impact of the storm and reevaluate the status of the park later today," the department posted Friday . The 8,400-acre park is one of Ohio's four original state parks, created in 1949.

Spanish police arrest 3 people over the deaths of 5 migrants forced out of a smugglers’ boat

Spanish police have arrested three people for the deaths last November of five migrants who were threatened with a machete and forced to jump off the boat they were traveling in with dozens of other migrants, authorities said Monday.

According to a police statement, the five died on Nov. 29 off the southern coast of Cádiz. The police said two men and a woman were arrested earlier this month but gave no further details.

The people smugglers had threatened the five with a machete and forced them to jump into the Atlantic Ocean despite the strong currents and cold temperatures.

Thirty-seven migrants had traveled in the boat from Kenitra, Morocco. The statement said the migrants had paid between 3,000 euros ($3,270) and 12,000 euros ($13,000) for a place in the boat.

Video images in November showed many of the other migrants being forced out of the vessel closer to land, before the smugglers sped off in the powerful boat. Police said they found the boat and some documents later, which helped in tracking down the three suspects.

Four of the bodies were recovered within hours and a fifth was found days later. The migrants were identified with the help of DNA samples from a family in Morocco.

Tens of thousands of migrants from sub-Saharan countries try to reach Spain each year in large open boats launched from northwest Africa. Most go to the Canary Islands in the Atlantic , while others from Morocco, Algeria and Middle Eastern countries try to cross the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean to mainland Spain.

Several thousands die making the hazardous journey.
