All year round I offer a number of gracefully lined, classical ships on my wharf. You are probably familiar with those Scandinavian designs and extraordinary sailing capacities.

All ships are thoroughly refitted and in great condition. Just the sailing, not the worries!

STRAIGHT TO THE WATER

If you buy a ship from me, it’s all ready and set up for sailing. All ships have undergone extensive refit and reparations. The wood has been impregnated, treated and finished off with the correct varnishes.

This makes you save time and maintenance and refit costs. In other words: you can immediately start to enjoy the wind, the water and your sailing beauty!

Most refitting projects are ships of the following classes:

• Coastal cruiser: Enderlein 28, Winga kryssare
• Spidsgatter: Koster 25, Laurin Koster

CRAFTMANSHIP

As a sailor and classic boats fanatic I have gained extensive knowledge on the history, craftmanship, maintenance and market value of small to middlesized classic wooden sailing yachts.

This has inspired me to start offering refitted ships, mostly Scandinavian designs such as the Skerry Cruiser, Coastal Cruiser and H-Boat.

Because sailing enthusiasts live all over the world, I publish all the ships that are currently for sale on this website. As of today, I count happy buyers from Germany, France, Spain, Russia and Australia amongst my clients.

Whether you are from Europe or beyond, you may contact me by e-mail, phone or skype. You are always welcome to pay a visit to the wharf, located in Kudelstaart (which is about 20 kilometres south of Amsterdam).

The term classic boat can be seen as subjective but allows us to enjoy and explore a rich and historic look back at some of the most beautiful craft ever built over hundreds of years. Some classic power boats and classic sailing yachts of which have great racing records whilst others represent design milestones in the development of sailing yachts, traditional river boats , commercial vessels or contemporary classics such as the historic Dunkirk Little Ship .

Usually, the build date is before 1970, however, now many modern boats are crafted in a classic build theme following traditional build criteria and the term modern classic is now commonplace when looking at this type of boat.

As the classic boat area is a very niche marketplace we recommend you talk to a specialist in this field when deciding on your purchase, they will advise you on the best boat to suit your needs, offer advice for ongoing maintenance and storage and explore your options with your best interest at heart.

Wooden Ships Comments on this Laurent Giles Wanderer Sloop

Laurent Giles Wanderer Class built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard, Hong Kong, in 1965.

Cheoy Lee built many Laurent Giles designs, including the smaller yet very similar Vertue.  They benefitted from access to tropical hardwoods so were all planked in teak as this boat is.  Like many other boats, she was shipped back to the UK where the fit out was completed and has spent her life in UK waters.

The Wanderer, made famous by the Hiscocks and their voyaging exploits, is essentially a blown up Vertue that employs many of the same design features and proved to have similarly excellent sailing qualities to the smaller cousin.  Although only 4’ longer on the deck than the Vertue, the Wanderer is an exponentially bigger boat all round with significantly more internal volume and headroom.

This boat has been upgraded with a recent new coachroof deck and a rebuilt mast.  Although her interior would benefit from a cosmetic refit, she is very much in commission and being used regularly with cruises planned this summer.

Sensibly priced for an attractive pedigree cruising yacht.

Construction

• Planked in 7/8” teak all copper fastened to steam bent Ipol frames at 6.5”
• External lead ballast keel fastened with stainless steel keel bolts of unknown age.
• Galvanised steel strap floors. Some have been removed and re-galvanised.
• Solid yacht laid teak deck fitted new in 2006.  Bronze screw fastened, caulked and payed.
• Many bronze deck fittings with a stainless steel stem head fitting.
• Varnished teak coachroof coamings with bronze portlights.  Epoxy sheathed marine plywood coachroof deck, fitted new in 2010.
• Self draining cockpit with scrubbed teak cockpit sole gratings and laid teak thwarts.  Sprayhood fitted over the cockpit with an integrated cockpit tent.
• Transom hung rudder.
• Masthead bermudan sloop rig on a keel stepped wooden mast.
• The bottom end of the mast was rebuilt in 2023.  Mast is painted white for ease of maintenance.
• Varnished roller reefing boom with bronze roller reefing gear.
• Stainless steel standing rigging to internal stainless chain plates.  Forestay and cap shrouds new 2018.  Other rigging new in 2006.
• Pair of original Lewmar bottom action non-self tailing cockpit sheet winches.  Pair of Lewmar mast winches.
• Full sail wardrobe including new mainsail in 2021.  Full list below in inventory.
• Volvo Penta MD2030C 30hp 3cyl diesel installed new in 1999.
• Recently serviced.
• Centreline fixed 3 blade bronze propeller gives cruising speed of 5 knots at less than 0.5 litres/hour.
• 2 x steel fuel tanks with total capacity of 55 litres.
• 2 x 22 gallon galvanised water tanks under the saloon settee berths.
• 2 x 12 volt 70ah batteries charged by the engine alternator.  Batteries new 2024.

Accommodation

• 4 single berths with 6’ headroom in the saloon
• The interior is totally original with many attractive features.  Would benefit from a cosmetic overhaul.  All teak joinery.
• Companion steps into the cabin slightly offset to starboard.  Galley to port and chart desk to starboard.
• Chart desk faces outboard with lockers and drawers below.
• The galley has a Taylors 030 paraffin stove.  Single stainless sink with pressurised cold water.  Ample storage space in and around the galley.
• Half height bulkheads with teak trim separate off the main saloon.
• Scrubbed teak sole boards throughout.
• Saloon has a settee berth either side with lots if storage space behind under the deckhead.  Saloon table sits on an alloy swinging arm so it can be tucked away over the berth to allow easy thoroughfare.  The table can be taken out and used in the cockpit as well.  The boat comes with her original teak dropleaf saloon table but the owner prefers to sail with the current smaller one.
• Forward to port is a diesel fired Refleks cabin heater with a hot plate top.
• Starboard side passage going forward with a hanging locker to port and heads to starboard.

Todays woody is the very salty looking Woollacott yacht – MAIA II. Built in 1949 she is one of the ‘Ghost’ designs and is 28’ x 8’ + a draft of 4’6”.Her owner asked for a plug on WW re her being for sale, and of course I said yes – the boats very smart and Devonport based so couldn’t say no.When required forward motion is via a 13hp Shibaura engine and the sale includes a spare engine.Again dont normally talk $$ on WW but at $12k ono it has to be a bargain for someone wanting to join the classic wooden boating movement.A very strong and active Woollcott owners association is a bonus. Sea Scouts Need Some Help

Recently WW was contacted by Keith Christensen from the Kotuku Sea Scout Group in Levin asking for help finding a new home for one of their boats – I’ll let Keith tell the story – 

“This is a 17′ kauri clinker standard Sea Scout cutter, #112 Moutere, built in 1967.  She has spent most of her life in a shed and on Lake Horowhenua with occasional trips to Wellington. Her greatest stress has been trailering across town from our boat shed to the lake. Her major challenges are a split strake, a few cracked ribs and a very interesting repair in the front. I have started renovation by stripping 95% of the paint. She comes with a trailer different than she is on in the photos which will need work as it has no mudguards. We have the rudder and some stretchers and can rummage up a mast (Oregon).  Any money donated to our group will be used for our youth programs as well as repairs to our other 3 Cutters. It’s sad to let her go but she has spent 13 years untouched so we need to focus on our other boats.  Because this is standard boat you will be able to find other  people who have done refits. I think it’s common to put an inboard in them. The transom on our other one got a bit beaten up with a Seagull so I wouldn’t recommend it.” Contact Keith Christensen at   [email protected]

Anyone know of another old girl “Ida” about 34′ also counter stern.Owned by a mate Shawn who joined the long lining surge in the gulf in the late 70s,80s.I’d be keen to know if she’s survived.About 8 other mates followed suit on various old girls & I guess we enjoyed the last of the free fishing days before quota & all that.Rafted up all over the place were Mark, Gregor, parks, Sean & others on vessels Maroro, Ida, Rendezvous, Ronomor, Puriri, & more. I know my launch, Maroro was salvaged by barge from th Barrier. Not sure if she made a recovery, she’d be worth it to a savior of old timers as she had a great turn of speed 32′ x 7’6″ …

There was a Maia similar profile that years ago was run down by a barge at night off Chelthanam or there abouts when she sailed between tug and barge and got caught in the towline. One person was tragically killed if I recall correctly
