never been on one but have admired one in our marina for years, I love the look of that boat! Will be interested to see what responses you get!  

I have never sailed one but about 10 years ago a broker insisted on showing me one and I was not impressed. I have a feeling that their limited quantities in the US make them difficult to sell as the broker was very intent on selling me that boat. I had already told him I was not interested but he persisited until I broke the relationship. Tim is too modest to tell you this. If you really want a fine moderately priced sailboat it would be hard to beat his Caliber. A much better boat than the Dufour IMHO.  

Ditto on that Caliber LRC, its a beauty.............. Red  

Dufour's have been available on and off in the US since at least the late 70s. Not sure if the company is the same group, but they have always been out of France. I have been told their availability new in the US varies depending on currency values. From what I see they are a decent boat. Completely different philosophy than the Caliber, which also a good boat.  

Thanks guys for your answer! I just reserved a sea trial on the Dufour 405 ( http://www.dufour-yachts.com/boat-dufour-405-7.html ) for next week I will tell you more after this sailing... Hope is going to be windy that day! Are you guys going to the boat show in SD this week end?

fwiw, I crew on a 2005 dufor 34 shoal. the shoal draft hurts us in racing upwind, but we are very fast downwind. nice well built boat, Except for the wire. I do not think its tinned, since the front bow lights wires fell apart. (but the runs were nice, and had a plastic junction box int he anchor well so I could splice in new run to the bow light. Oh, this boat has a sail drive. very quiet, but it doesn't have enough hours to make an opinion on maintenance.  

Dufour has new owners Bavaria group. Dufour and Grand Soleil are under the new ownership of Bavaria. They will remain as three seperate boatbuilders as as the owners discribe the product lines like the car world. Bavaria is the Volkswagon (German), Dufour is Audi (French) and Grand Soleil is the Porsche (Italian). To compare the Caliber it's a long range "cruiser" with skeg hung rudder, simi full keel, and not the performance hull shape as the Dufour. The Dufour line of boats are more performance cruisers rather than long range cruisers and they have a line of performance racers also. Have sailed the Dufour 525 and 405 with the local dealer and they are easily driven hulls with wide open deck areas and low cabin structures. Great lines ! Let me know about your experience on the trial sail.  

Guys it was cool, Also because of a nice 12 knt !! I loved those electric winches! The D405 grand Large was pretty fast for a cruising boat we were cruising beam reach at 8 knt! And there were free sandwiches!!  

I really like Dufours, they are well made and sail very nice. I believe the hulls are vinylester and manufactured using "scrimp" technology. However, unless you plan on keeping the Dufour forever I might consider something else. Selling a sailboat when you are finished with it becomes a challenge especially if you have a rare model or something that is not mainstream. You limit you future buyers and in turn will probably get less money that you were expecting. I chose my boat (Beneteau 36.7) for its sail performance capabilities but more for its future marketability. I figure the brand name is well know and the type of boat with its huge following may also help me when it comes time to sell. But what do I know, the economy could tank just when it comes time for me to sell and nothing will matter at that point.

Dufour sailing yachts - for stylish and bold conquerors of the sea.

Dufour is the only large-scale French shipyard that exclusively builds sailing yachts. Founded in 1964, for half a century now it has been the benchmark for high-quality mass production of yachts along with such popular brands as Bavaria and Beneteau .

The founder of Dufour was the designer Michel Dufour, in whose honor this brand got its name. The location of the shipyard in La Rochelle, a well-known center of sailing in the west of France, distinguished by long-standing sailing traditions, also played an important role in the rapid development of Dufour .

Her very first model, created a year after the emergence of Dufour Yachts , received widespread popularity in the world and recognition of true connoisseurs of sea voyages under sail. The shipyard distinguished itself by introducing new ideas in the construction of sailing yachts, creating a small cruising sailboat that conquered sailing connoisseurs for many years, and setting fashion trends for other creators of sailing yachts.

In 1973, Dufour was recognized as the leading French manufacturer of serial yachts, and already in 1976, due to debts, the founder of the company was forced to sell it to the Italian, who later moved to France, Marcel Biquet. In 1981, the shipyard temporarily suspended production due to financial difficulties, which was subsequently re-established, and in 2010 the Bavaria Yacht Group became the owner of Dufour. Despite such differences between ups and downs and a change of ownership, the Dufour shipyard never changed the quality of its products, and its boats always correspond to a high level of comfort and reliability.

The line up of manufactured models consists of two main areas: Grand Large (length from 9.8 to 15.31 m) - cruise yachts for lovers of long sea voyages and Performance (length 10.6-13.76 m) - racing sailboats for those who values speed and drive the most and wants to reach their heights in sailing. All yachts of this French shipyard have a fiberglass hull, which, thanks to a special technology of creation (two layers of fiberglass are connected using the vacuum method), has a sturdy, robust construction with a relatively low weight. Laminated stringers evenly distribute the load throughout the hull, which also contributes to the reliability of the yachts of this brand.

Which boat licence do I need?

To sail a boat in most countries you’ll need an internationally recognized boat licence, such as RYA, ICC, Radio License or CEVNI. However, this rule may vary from one country to another, therefore before departing on your trip we advice you to contact our team to see what kind of licences are accepted.

What is a security deposit?

Security deposit is refundable and you will receive it after check-out (after the boat has been inspected for any damages). However, if you cause damage you are responsible to the amount of security deposit ( it can't be exceeded ) and if your damage is less, the rest will be returned to you. Deposit price depends on the price of the boat.

What is a transit log?

Transit Log is one payment for following services (in most cases) : final cleaning, bed linen, base marina fees, diver check. Transit Log services may differ depending on charter company - you can always contact our support team which will be able to outline the specifics of Transit Log for your booking.

Buvette Daphnée's disgraced chef Dominique Dufour replaced in Ottawa culinary competition

Dominique Dufour, the disgraced Ottawa chef whose staff walked out weeks ago in a non-confidence protest, is no longer among the competitors at this fall’s Ottawa qualifier for the Canadian Culinary Championship .

Dufour’s acclaimed restaurant, Buvette Daphnée on William Street, closed hours before its dinner service on May 31 following a spontaneous walkout that involved front- and back-of-house workers . The restaurant, which opened last September to rave reviews and which was ranked 97th on this year’s Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list, was thrown into turmoil and has not reopened since.

Dufour is a celebrity chef with a national profile thanks to her appearance on the 2020 season of the Food Network Canada program Top Chef Canada. But staff at Daphnée could no longer bear working for her following months of frustrations with Dufour’s alleged mismanagement and outbursts that prompted some staff to tears.

While the restaurant’s co-owners hired a coach to help her become a better manager, Dufour told this newspaper that she took “full responsibility for not being the leader expected of me for my team and by my team.” She stepped back from the business, which has two other co-owners, noting that she is also pregnant with her second child.

In a release, the organizers of the Ottawa edition of the Canada’s Great Kitchen Party competition said that because of Buvette Daphnée’s closure, Dufour would no longer take part in their Sept. 25 event at the Fairmont Château Laurier. “Chefs must be part of a restaurant that is operating in order to be invited to take part in the event,” said the release.

Replacing Dufour in the competition will be Sarath Teegavarapu, the chef-owner of Kathā, a fine dining restaurant on Preston Street that serves Indian-influenced tasting menus .

The other five chefs in the competition are Lizardo Becerra of Raphaël Peruvian Cuisine on Elgin Street, Mitch Lacombe of Gitanes, another Elgin Street restaurant, Patrick Garland of Absinthe on Wellington Street West and Jason Sawision of Stofa on Wellington Street West, and Kristine Hartling of Oz Kafe in the ByWard Market.

After Buvette Daphnée’s staff quit, the restaurant posted on its social media that it was hiring for all positions. A re-opening date has not been announced. However, reservations Tuesday, Aug. 1 are available through the restaurant’s website.
