Itinerary of Powerboat Level 2 Course

• Morning: Classroom check-in, understanding RIB launching, safety equipment overview, pre-departure checks, and safety briefing.
• Afternoon: Close-quarters handling, practicing maneuvers, learning about painters, lines, and fenders, followed by high-speed maneuvers and anchoring techniques.
• Morning: Classroom session on trip planning, discussing weather, tidal, and navigational information, and understanding different types of craft and engines.
• Afternoon: Executing a planned trip, practicing harbor entry and mooring, GPS usage, handling emergencies, and practicing Man Overboard procedures.

In this Coastal Safety Marine Knowledge online learning course we cover the subjects that give you the “Coastal Safety Marine Knowledge”  that you need to go to sea and come home safely.

For example you need a good knowledge about the buoyage system which is made up of coloured lights and distinctive markers to show where the edge of the channel is, where the isolated dangers are, where the safe water is and where the special areas are for say swimming or even military explosive practice areas.

The is a large section on the international “anti” collision regulations and the special identification lights that various commercial and military vessel exhibit. Who gives way and who stands on. What kind of actions should be taken to avoid a collision and what responsibilities “ every ” vessel at sea has. Ignorance of the rules is not a defence these days.

Chartwork and the symbols on the chart are described and many examples are given.

What is the RYA Power Boat Level 2 and in which part of the world is it valid?

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) founded in the UK in 1875 is a worldwide recognized body. The RYA Powerboat Level 2 (RYA 2) allows you to drive a boat in Dubai and everywhere in the world. In most countries the RYA 2 is enough to drive a boat, while in some European countries you need the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). Once you get the RYA 2, there is just a simple administrative application to get the ICC. And we can help you with that. You can find our accreditations on the RYA website here .

What are the prerequisites?

• No prior experience needed
• Be above 12y old (candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate)
• Bring your passport

How to get a boat license in Dubai?

This is a 2 days course, mainly practical but with some classroom teaching. There is no test at the end. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate.

During these 2 days you will practice boat driving at sea, securing a buoy, anchoring, mooring the boat, maneuvers in the marina to dock the boat, and recovering a person from the water. You will also learn how to read a map, use a radio, follow the navigation rules, inspect the main security element of the boat and what to do in case of an emergency. The ratio is 3 students per instructor.

Where is the training?

You join us at our base at Fishing Harbour, Umm Suqeim 2, the marina just next to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel (JBH). You can find us on Google Maps looking for Nemo WaterSports Dubai, or at this link . Most of the time is spent on our boat driving, doing maneuvers and learning the basics of radio, security. There are some parts in a classroom in our marina learning to read maps and a few others points.

What type of boat can you drive and how far?

In Dubai and most European countries with a RYA Level 2 you can drive a boat up to 12 meters without power limits up to 3 nautical miles or 6 km from the coast.

In most European countries you also need a license to drive a jet ski. The RYA License should be enough but some European countries ask for the ICC (International Certificate of Competence). With the RYA Level 2, you just need an administrative application to get the ICC. We will help you with that.

The MOEI/FMA Small Boat Driving License (12m) is mandatory for operating boats under 12 meters in UAE waters. It caters to both beginners and experienced boaters, offering the option for dual IYT certification.

• The MOEI/FMA Small Boat Driving License 12m is compulsory for operating small boats less than 12 meters within U.A.E. waters.
• The MOEI/FMA SBDL 12 meter certificate is a mandatory requirement if you wish to advance to the MOEI/FMA SBDL 24 meter course.

• Theory:   - A one-day intensive course covering essential topics such as safety, VHF operations, nautical terminology, basic navigation, and rules of the road.
• Practical:   - One day of hands-on training focused on boat handling, including berthing, maneuvering, and emergency procedures.
• Total course duration: - 2 days theory and practical training
• Training vessels: - 10-meter GC Marine 31 ZAHRA - 12-meter Silvercraft 38 GAVIOTA - Both vessels are equipped with Yamaha twin outboard engines
• Exams:   - Written MOEI/FMA SBDL 12 meter theory exam - Practical assessment - Optional: Second exam for the IYT Small Powerboat & RIB Master certificate.
