The Kamanu Catamaran

The  “Kamanu Catamaran”  is Kona’s only custom 36′ catamaran built for speed and comfort. She’s 22 feet wide, making for a large stable platform with an expansive “trampoline” or webbing net up forward for lying on.  Soak in the sun and watch the ocean flow by you as you gaze through the net into the deep blue on a catamaran tour of Big Island Hawaii. Relax in the shaded open air cabin area and “talk story” with the captain and first mate.

We did the Sunset Cruise. Our captain was very patient, and waited 20 minutes for a couple who said they were 2 minutes away, and never did show up. That doesn't include the 30 minutes prior to launch that everyone was told to arrive at. Great crew, beautiful sunset, mai tais, beer and wine were great, and the food was more than anticipated for appetizers. Definitely would recommend!

We loved our sailing and snorkeling trip! The team was wonderful, and it was magical to snorkel and see the fish. We even saw Eagle Rays, swimming in parallel, a breaktaking highlight for us. Thank you!

Captain Peter or Paul and first mate Patrick were awsome on our sunset sail out of Kona. My son wanted a sailing catamaran not a motor sail and I found Kamanu on yelp. It did not disappoint, the crew snd boat was fabulous. Felt more intimate then the larger tours. You can’t go wrong with this crew.

Our 36′ Kurt Hughes designed sailing catamaran, Kōlea, is one of the newest vessels on the big island.  USCG certified to carry up to 24 passengers, her modern design and light weight provide excellent stability, comfort and sailing performance. The comfortable open layout of this purpose built charter catamaran means plenty of deck space for guests and easy access to all parts of the boat.

My family and I had the pleasure of booking this wonderful trip with Captain Joey and Hannah this past week. From the start of booking they made us feel so comfortable making sure we would get a spectacular experience. It's the attention to the details that impressed me. They kept a watch on the weather and the tides.They also asked about food allergies and made sure that all of our food was reaction free for all of our family members! Once on board we felt at home as if we were part of their family. My teenage girls loved that you could relax and sun bathe in the front of the catamaran or hang out on the shady side. Above all they kept asking for our input and our likes and dislikes. My youngest (15 yrs old) had the time of her life with all the activities they had planned. This trip was a grad gift for our oldest daughter (18 yrs old) and as a mom I planned to get a great Christmas card shot while onboard. I brought along crowns for y girls and I to wear and a tea leaf lei for my husband. Hannah did an exceptional job at capturing our family and the moments that we were having onboard. From the family pictures, to capturing us swimming, playing and hanging out on the board. What blew us away was when Captain Joey let out the sail. That was one of the highlights of our adventure. With Diamond Head as our back drop and the wind pushing us along with the sound of the waves hitting the catamaran. Oh it was spectacular! Wife Dead, Search for Husband and Pilot Suspended After Hawaii Helicopter Crash: They 'Were Soulmates'

Amy Nichole Ruark Quintua died after the incident, while her husband James Quintua remains missing, authorities said

Authorities have suspended the search for two people, including one half of a Kentucky couple who were on a helicopter that crashed off the coast of Hawaii while on a tour.

The U.S. Coast Guard announced the suspension in a news release on July 14, three days after the helicopter crashed a quarter mile off the Na Pali Coast in Kauai.

One of the three passengers, 53-year-old Amy Nichole Ruark Quintua, was found “unresponsive by Kauai Ocean Safety Bureau lifeguards” the same day as the crash. She did not survive, according to FOX affiliate WXIX-TV .

Her husband, 60-year-old passenger James Quintua, and 69-year-old pilot Guy Croyden have not been found.

"She and Jim had found each other and were soulmates," Amy’s sister-in-law, Amy Gail Ruark shared in a statement with WXIX-TV. "They were one of those couples that you would look at and be in awe of their love for each other. We loved Jim and his family as if he had always been part of the family."

Ruark said James had a big heart, adding, “People like them are irreplaceable. The world was a better place with them in it.”

She also described her sister-in-law as “one of the most kindhearted individuals you would ever meet.”

“My favorite thing about [Amy] was how freely she would tell those she loved that she loved them,” Ruark said in the statement. “And you knew that she meant it.”

Authorities said the helicopter involved in the crash was part of Ali‘i Kaua‘i Air Tours and Charters, based in Lihue.

PEOPLE has reached out to the company for comment.

Crews spent about 60 hours searching for the missing men, “covering more than 830 square miles” along the way, according to the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard Cmdr. Kristen Hahn, search and rescue mission coordinator with Coast Guard Sector Honolulu, thanked their Kauai County partners for their assistance in the now-suspended search.

“While this event has been a tragedy for both the families and the community, I am reassured that our responders have been able to collect some debris and exhaust our search efforts, which may provide closure for everyone involved,” Hahn said in the news release.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
