Why Below Deck Sailing Yacht Didn’t Bring Jenna MacGillivray Back After Season 1
The first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht had Bravo fans hook, line and sinker. It took the original premise of Below Deck and intensified it into a more confining space. Oddly enough, though, none of the crew (save the captain) returned for the highly anticipated Season 2, which premiered on March 1. Fans were left wondering, why was chief stewardess Jenna MacGillivray not brought back?
Ahead of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 premiere, Captain Glenn Shepherd and executive producer Jill Goslicky revealed in an AMA on Reddit why Jenna MacGillivray did not come back. What it, essentially, boils down to is exactly what MacGillivray was accused of not having last season: professionalism . Goslicky said,
The short is answer - we absolutely wanted Jenna to have the staying power of Kate and Hannah. In our dream scenario, every cast member we bring on board is such a hit they carry on for seasons and seasons. I also genuinely loved working with Jenna - she gets a lot of flack on social media, but she truly was great to work with. I think if I’m being truly honest… Jenna got swept up in a boatmance… and I think in that way, she didn’t allow herself to shine and show how amazing she truly is.
The relationship between chief stew Jenna MacGillivray and chef Adam Glick on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was the key drama of the season. They would often make out in front of the crew and talk smack in private about them. Though it was often a little over the top, and not to mention nauseating, it made for great reality television as they isolated themselves from the group.
Captain Glenn Shephard reflected,
I think the situation with Adam [Glick] - they would have been better postponing getting involved until the season was done. If I can see everything happening between Adam and Jenna in real time, I would probably tell them to tone it down and focus more on work than their personal lives.
The assertion that Jenna MacGillivray’s boatmance is the reason why she didn't return for Season 2 sounds more like MacGillivray's own reason. Fans were critical of her emotional entanglements while working, but they no doubt have always loved a stone-cold chief stew with an attitude. Hannah Ferrier and Kate Chastain set this precedent on Below Deck .
Jill Goslicky said that when the Below Deck producers and Bravo discuss bringing back previous crew members, the main question is: “Do they have compelling reasons for their story to continue on in the show?” Jenna MacGillivray has the most compelling reason out of the whole first season crew to come back on the show. At the reunion show of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , fans awkwardly learned that the two lovebirds were no longer together.
A similar occurrence happened on Below Deck: Mediterranean . Stewardess Aesha Scott got hot and heavy with Jack Stirrup on Season 4, only for fans to find out about a brutal breakup that involved cheating with an ex-girlfriend. But she had the last laugh when she came back for Season 5! Then again, Scott maintained a hero's role throughout her season, not MacGillivray's villain one.

Jill Goslicky teased that there is still potential for a Jenna MacGillivray comeback story. She hinted at the fact that many times crew will take off and return in a later season.
As for Below Deck Sailing Yacht , the new season just started, with promises of drama , cheating, and COVID complications . Tune in to Bravo on Mondays at 9pm EST to watch.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 1 Star Jenna MacGillivray Is Engaged
Published Aug. 16 2022, 12:39 p.m. ET
Jenna MacGillivray and her fiancé, Dave Cartmill.
Wedding bells are officially ringing for Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum Jenna MacGillivray !
The yacht chief stew, who starred on the debut season of the Below Deck spin-off series, announced her engagement to longtime beau Dave Cartmill on her Instagram page on Aug. 13.
In the caption of her engagement announcement, Jenna referred to her fiancé as the "best person."
As BDSY fans will remember, Jenna's boatmance with Chef Adam Glick was a central storyline on Season 1 of the Bravo series, but the pair broke up after the charter season wrapped up (but before the reunion aired in June of 2020).
Though her relationship with the chef did not work out, Jenna has clearly found a lasting connection with her now-fiancé. Who is Jenna's husband-to-be, and what has she been up to since viewers last saw her on the show? Keep reading to find out.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' alum Jenna MacGillivray is engaged. Who is her fiancé?
Following her public romance with Chef Adam, Jenna noted on her Instagram feed in September of 2021 that she didn't want to "post pics of the men in [her] life that she date[s]."
That changed with her now-fiancé, Dave.
The chief stew first shared a photo with Dave, on the app in February of 2022, though it's unclear when exactly the two started dating. Dave's own Instagram feed is set to private, so not much is publicly known about his life and career.
About six months after Jenna went public with Dave, she confirmed that the two were set to wed.
"It took me a long time to find true comfort and happiness with myself independent of anyone else. I'm forever thankful I loved myself enough to stay alone long enough to wait for the best person I could have ever imagined for me," Jenna wrote in the caption of her Aug. 13 post on Instagram. "Exploding."
After Jenna confirmed the exciting news with a snapshot of her and her fiancé and a photo of her emerald-cut ring, several stars from the various shows in the Below Deck franchise sent along their warm wishes in the comments' section.
"Omg congratulations!!!!!! So so happy for you!!!!" Jenna's BDSY Season 1 co-star, Ciara Duggan, wrote.

Below Deck Med deckhand Colin Macy O'Toole added a "Congrats girlie!" comment under the post, and BDSY Season 2 personality Dani Soares shared a simple "Congratulations," along with two red heart emojis.
Jenna's former boss (and the captain of Parsifal III ), Glenn Shephard, added, "So happy for you guys."
It does not appear that Jenna's one-time co-star and now-ex, Chef Adam, has publicly commented on the news.
What is Jenna from 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' doing now?
Though she didn't return to the show for Seasons 2 or 3 of BDSY (Daisy Kelliher has been the chief stew on those seasons), Jenna has kept fans updated about her life on her Instagram page.
Once her time on the show wrapped up, Jenna did a lot of traveling, and she has shared the details of her various adventures on her Instagram profile. She did work on another boat in the Bahamas, and she co-hosted the Wild Loner podcast until the spring of 2021.
Now, the Canadian may be getting ready to plan her wedding!

Here’s What the Cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Currently Up to Now
Are Jenna and Adam still together?
After the massive success of Below Deck and its spinoff Below Deck Med , Bravo decided to test the waters on a new iteration of its hit series earlier this year. That's where Below Deck: Sailing Yacht came in, taking place on a luxury sailing boat, the Parsifal III, adrift in the Ionian Sea.
From a spontaneous proposal failing spectacularly to a joke about being breastfed as an adult, Sailing Yacht was as much a dramatic success as the other franchises. It also left fans wondering about what's happening to the crew since the show wrapped. Did chief stew Jenna and chef Adam stay together? What's going on with Georgia's music? And most important—is Captain Glenn really as cool as we think he is?
Here's what the cast of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is up to now:
Jenna MacGillivray
When the Canadian stepped onto the Parsifal III, fans got exactly what they hoped for in a chief stew—a no-nonsense leader who also had a romantic spot in her heart for the chef in the galley. Though her relationship with Adam Glick proved to be tumultuous, the two dated for some time after the season wrapped, even taking some time to road-trip together.
These days, Jenna is enjoying some time off from yachting, but given her recent IG pics, she's excited to come back to another charter season.
Madison Stalker
Wherever Madison went, drama always seemed to follow the second stew during season one of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht . In between epic meltdowns (including a major one between her and Jenna over her lack of enthusiasm for her job), she left the boat a better person and leaving fans ready to see more from their new favorite cast member.
Judging by her Instagram account, she's taken a break from yachting (perhaps until next season of the show).
Georgia Grobler
As good of a third stew Georgia was on deck, fans were more invested in her budding music career and growing feelings for a very taken Paget. She proved she was great at her job and could make a career out of yachting.
While it's unclear whether she stayed in the yachting industry post- Sailing Yacht , Georgia's working on music, premiering new music videos on IGTV during the quarantine.
Below Deck Med fans were so excited when Adam joined the crew as the chef for Sailing Yacht . While he abided by the preference sheets this time around, he also began a rocky romance with chief stew Jenna, making most of the crew members wonder if he was there for his job or the girl.
Since the show wrapped, Adam's busy onshore, cooking, and traveling with his adorable puppy. Oh, and Adam has a web series, Stoked , where he travels across the country to meet with local chefs and learn about their regions... all while over a campfire.
Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan
If there was any couple to root for from the entire Below Deck franchise, it's Paget and Ciara. The duo made a great team on deck, and mostly kept their relationship to a minimum on cameras—a first for Bravo! As they were the most familiar with the Parsifal III, the couple was the most reliable, and fans loved seeing their relationship continue blossoming post-filming.
These days, the couple has a lot to be excited about—they're now engaged. While they're soaking up their romantic bliss, they're also still working in yachting, although it's sadly on separate boats.
Byron Hissey
As the chief engineer of Parsifal III, Byron was clearly there to just do his job. But, given how he was the only cast member to have a wife and child back home, he also became the dad of the group, taking care of the other crew members.
Since filming wrapped, it looks like Byron is back on a boat doing exactly what he does best—fixing and making sure the engines run smoothly.
Parker McCown
Relatively new to the yachting industry, fans are more likely to remember the deckhand for his enraged rant about being breastfed by his mother. While he didn't necessarily have all the skills to make it as a deckhand, he definitely had a soft spot for his ex-girlfriend Kaiti, whom he eventually left Parsifal III to go back to at home.
It looks like the decision to leave the show worked out for Parker, as he's now engaged to Kaiti and writing some tunes while onshore.
Chris Miller
As Parker's replacement for the latter half of the season, Chris proved a great deckhand and an asset to the team, all while battling an injury.
These days, Chris seems to be taking some time off from yachting to travel across Europe.
Captain Glenn Sheppard
Captain Glenn was tough, fair, and not afraid to have a good time, which both crew and guests very much appreciated.
Thankfully, his reality TV experience hasn't turned him off yachting forever. Glenn is still the captain for Parsifal III and traveling through the Mediterranean.

What happened to Adam and Jenna Below Deck Sailing Yacht?
It’s been over a year since Below Deck Sailing Yacht introduced chef Adam Glick and chief stew Jenna MacGillivray.
Well, Adam was a familiar face because of his two-time stint on Below Deck Mediterranean. One season involved a love triangle with Malia White and Wes Walton.
Sparks immediately flew between Jenna and Adam. Despite his best effort to not get involved in a boatmance, the two gave in to their feelings.
Their relationship was a pivotal plotline, especially the impact it had on the interior crew.
Madison Stalker often complained she and Georgia Grobler did all the work, while Jenna washed a glass or two in the galley to flirt with Adam. Viewers didn’t disagree either and often criticized Jenna’s worth ethic on social media.
What happened to Adam and Jenna after Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1?
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1 ended with Adam and Jenna walking off into the sunset together, embarking on van life. The romance only lasted a few months, though.
When the Parsifal III crew got together virtually to dish Season 1 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Jenna and Adam had split. Adam admitted the process of being in a relationship on the Bravo show was challenging for them.
Host Andy Cohen asked if they might rekindle their romance now that the show was done airing. Adam pretty much told Andy that wasn’t anybody’s business.
They did not get back together. Jenna has revealed they have a lot of history, but it’s very complicated. As of last fall, Jenna was dating someone new . However, she has chosen to keep her personal life private.
Why did neither Jenna or Adam return for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2?
When the Season 2 cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht was revealed, the only returning crew member was Captain Glenn Shephard. It wasn’t a huge surprise neither Adam nor Jenna came back, but it did get fans asking why they didn’t return.
Adam made it clear during the Season 1 reunion show that he was done with reality television, or at least the Below Deck franchise. The chef does have a web-series cooking show called, Stoked.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht producer Jill Goslicky shed light on how crew members were asked to return to the yachting show. Jill called out Jenna’s romance with Adam as one reason the chief stew didn’t shine on the show and wasn’t asked back.
Jenna shut down the producer’s accusations in an Instagram Live. The chief stew defended her work ethic.
Like so many Below Deck couples before them, Adam and Jenna from Below Deck Sailing Yacht are not together. They don’t even talk.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

Finally, Bravo Drops Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Season 5 Trailer
Bravo fans have been waiting a very long time for news about Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, and the network has finally delivered.
Not only did Bravo just drop a brand-new trailer for the fifth season of the hotly-anticipated reality TV show, the network also confirmed precisely when Below Deck Sailing Yacht will return.
Until today, fans of Below Deck Sailing Yacht weren't quite sure the spin-off of Below Deck would return for a fifth season, as the last episode of Season 4 aired way back in July 2023.
Editor's note: This article contains brief mentions of sexual assault, abuse, or other related topics that could be triggering for some readers and survivors. In late June, one viewer asked Reddit users if Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 was ever going to happen, and even as recently as this summer, fans weren't sure the show was returning.
In that thread, BDSY fans speculated that Season 5 was delayed due to allegations involving First Officer Gary King.
As we previously reported, Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht featured a wild "love triangle" between Gary, Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher , and Chief Engineer Colin MacRae:
"Many things influenced the relationship between Daisy and Colin, but one name was the most prominent: Gary King. "Daisy, Colin, and Gary's entanglement reached a boiling point that got the three in public arguments and name-calling, and at the end, estranged."
A month after Season 4 concluded with a two-part reunion in July 2023, Rolling Stone published an in-depth article , "'Below Deck' Accused of Covering Up Gary Kingâs Sexual Misconduct," rocking the show's audience.
It reported in part:
"Bravos Below Deck was recently lauded for its handling of sexual misconduct when a producer on Below Deck Down Under broke the 'fourth wall' and intervened when one cast member, Luke Jones, tried to get into bed naked with another cast member, Margot Sisson, without her consent while she was inebriated and passed out. Not only was Luke fired from the show, but their fellow cast member and stewardess, Laura Bileskalne, was also let go because of victim-blaming comments she made to Margot about the incident and her own line-crossing pursuit of deckhand Adam Kodra. [...] "Samantha Suarez, who first joined Below Deck in the makeup department on Season 10 of the show, tells Rolling Stone that cast member Gary King tried to force himself on her during production of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season Four, which filmed in Sardinia, Italy, in the summer of 2022."
Fans speculated that Season 5 was delayed due to extensive retooling, but Bravo eventually confirmed the return of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, with a trailer that centers Daisy.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5's Release Date And Trailer
On September 16, Bravo finally released the Below Deck Sailing Yacht trailer.
Bravo shared the clip on Instagram and Twitter/X, to the surprise of fans:
Posts teased the crew's visit to the notoriously riotous destination of Ibiza, and the trailer kicked off with some remarks from Daisy.
Daisy is the first crew member to speak in the trailer, and she addresses the unwieldy love triangle of Season 4:
"Going into this season, I got rid of some dead weight. The breakup did a number on me last year. I felt very broken. "But now, I'm coming back in more focused, full of energy, and I'm f*****g good at my job. And I'm taking back the reins."
Immediately thereafter, the clip cuts to a cabin, where Daisy tells an in-bed Gary that she refuses to "carry this season," before cutting back to newer footage of Daisy laughing and predicting:
This is gonna be a s*** show.
Then the video shifts to Ibiza, where a voiceover describes it as the world's "party capital," and scenes are interspersed with a lot of breaking glass.
Gary (who has not been let go from the franchise) makes an appearance, and the soundbite chosen for the trailer is bizarre given the allegations levied at him last year:
If the guests don't have a good time, we're clearly doing something very wrong.
As the trailer winds down, one of the crew members (likely Deckhand Keith Allen) muses that "Daisy would make a very good wife."
The trailer wraps with an apparent firing, as well as what appears to be a scene during which the crew veers uncomfortable close to another vessel at sea, at night.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 debuts on Bravo on October 7 at 9PM Eastern, and streams on Peacock the following day.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Jenna Reveals Where She Stands with Adam Following the Reunion
These off-camera moments will have you looking at Jenna MacGillivray and Adam Glick's relationship in a whole new way.
It was clear how much Jenna MacGillivray and Adam Glick cared about each other this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . However, the couple wasn't always feeling the love from their fellow Parsifal III crew members, whether it was Madison Stalker expressing her disapproval of Jenna and Adam's PDA in the communal crew quarters or Captain Glenn Shephard confronting the chief stew about her interactions with the chef.
How to Watch
Watch Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Bravo on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c and next day on Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .
However, Jenna is standing by her actions with Adam this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . "There's definitely a misconception about how often we were engaged in PDA when other people were around that just people weren't around for it, and it wasn't excessive by any means," she explained in our new video series, The Final Word , which you can view, above. "I would go in in the morning and give him a kiss, and no one was there. Or I'd be doing whatever in the galley or the crew mess, he'd come over and give me a hug. Like I said on the reunion, that was when I was finished with my shift. Some people have a problem with that, I get it, but I'm also not working."
Jenna added, "The second I felt happy and excited to find somebody that I really connected with, every force was coming at us to try and tear that down, and that was heartbreaking for me."
There were other loving moments between the couple that they shared off-camera during the charter season, such as when Adam left a love note wrapped with a piece of sea glass on Jenna's bed that read, "Here's to what feels like a lifetime of combing beaches in search of the perfect piece of sea glass. That's you."
We Have a Major Update on Adam Glick and Jenna MacGillivray's Relationship
This is a moment that Jenna and Adam both still cherish. "You know, we actually talked about this a couple weeks ago," Jenna recalled in The Final Word . "He was like, 'You know, I really meant it when I did that. I had those passionate feelings.'"
As much as Jenna and Adam were able to sneak in some romance during the hectic charter season, the couple experienced some tense moments as well, sometimes within the same day . Jenna agreed that her relationship with Adam could be hot and cold at times this season. "Those walls that he talked about, that's real," Jenna said. "He'll look for any kind of way to put up another wall so that he can escape intimacy and a natural connection with somebody. That's what I believe, anyway."
Though it wasn't always clear what the future held for Jenna and Adam during the charter season, the two did spend a lot of time getting to know each other off the boat. Not only did they go on a road trip in Greece after the season ended, but they also drove across the country together, spending time with Adam's family and in Jenna's hometown in Canada before celebrating Christmas, which we learned during the reunion on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home on June 1.
Jenna opened up more about what went on during her travels with Adam after the charter season ended, including one particularly "crazy" moment, in The Final Word , which you can check out, above. "We had lots of really peaceful, nice moments, too," she said. "Like, lots of adventures wherever we went."
Adam previously confirmed during his appearance on WWHL: @ Home on May 4 that he and Jenna are no longer together , although they keep in touch. But during that same episode, he also said that they were still trying to figure things out. "This whole situation, this whole show has been particularly difficult for us... for pretty obvious reasons," Adam said of his relationship status with Jenna during the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion.
When Andy Cohen asked Adam at the reunion whether he and Jenna would ever get back together someday, the chef replied, "Well, to be 100 percent honest, I don't think that's any of you guys' business."
Jenna is similarly keeping whatever lies ahead for her and Adam a bit more private these days, although it doesn't sound like she's ruling anything out. "We have a lot of history, so I'd always be open to a road trip again. We'll see how it goes. But like he said on the reunion, there's a lot of complicated factors," she shared in The Final Word . "For me, personally, I'm just focused on myself right now and my own happiness, and that's all that matters to me in this current moment."

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5’s trailer has finally arrived, and with Captain Glenn Shephard’s crew including First Officer Gary King, fans are disappointed in the show’s return . While Below Deck viewers have been impatiently awaiting news about Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 for over a year, the trailer has finally been released, and has many concerned about what the season is going to look like. While the trailer reveals the return of some familiar faces, the storylines that appear to be part of the season left viewers feeling uneasy. After Gary’s sexual misconduct allegations, his involvement seems overwhelming.
In the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 trailer, the crew’s chartering guests around Ibiza in a new sailing adventure. With Gary showing up early in the trailer after Daisy Kelliher makes her grand entrance, things get dicey quickly. “That’s right, we have a f****** job and I’m not carrying this f****** season on my own you f****** prick,” Daisy shouts at Gary in one moment of the trailer as he lays in his bed, looking dismayed. The rest of the trailer shows the genuine chaos of the season, featuring Gary heavily much to the surprise of Below Deck viewers .
What Gary’s Involvement In Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Means
He’s part of the show more than ever.
Throughout the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 trailer, it was clear that Gary will be a focal point of the exterior team’s story. Being shown on the deck with some of the exterior team, pushing Deckhands to their limits and critiquing their work, Gary’s presence on the sailing yacht may be odd during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 . While he appears to be getting along with Daisy , he may not even have her in his corner by the end of the charter season. His heavy involvement in the trailer may not indicate the same throughout the whole season.

Although Gary has been a part of Below Deck Sailing Yacht since the early days of the series, seeing him as a member of the crew after his sexual misconduct allegations came to light is tough. While Bravo filmed Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 before the allegations were revealed, they came to light during the filming of the season and it appears that the network didn’t choose to remove Gary from later episodes or take action at all. Though it remains to be seen if production did anything about Gary , it’s disappointing to some to see him on screen.
Our Take On The Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Trailer
It could be chaotic fun, but gary leaves a stain on the show.
Although the trailer for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 makes it seem like one of the most exciting, dramatic seasons of the series we’ve ever seen, the mess may not be worth it if Gary’s involved. By ignoring the sexual misconduct allegations lodged against Gary and leaving him on the series, seemingly without explanation, Bravo is allowing it to seem like what he may have done is okay. Though nothing has been proven, taking no action on Below Deck Sailing Yacht could be a misstep that may taint the entire season of the sailing spin-off for once excited viewers.
