There are a multitude of options available for expedition vessels. Above are examples of existing brokerage vessels. Other options to consider include Full Custom Builds and Semi Custom Builds. A Fully Custom Expedition yacht build is a ground up design and specification package, which will include tank testing of hull forms, 3D modeling, etc. A Semi Custom Expedition Build includes an existing hull form and common engineering package, already being used and then customizing the house styling, layout and décor.

The 80m Explorer Yacht, unnamed, is an example of a Fully Custom Explorer Build. The vessel includes float in float out wet dock that will be able to hold a 65-70 foot sport fisherman in the stern, when the sport fish is removed the tender well becomes a deep swimming pool.  She is diesel electric with Azipod drives.   The vessel has the capability of landing two helicopters and can house both helicopters in a single hangar.  The vessel also has a large tender garage that could hold multiple smaller vessels including a RIB, flats boat, jets skis and two submarines.  The vessel has accommodations for 18 guests and crew of 36.  The vessel would be commercial fit and finish on the exterior and the interior are envisioned to be built to high end cruise ship standards.

The 75m Explorer, by Admiral Shipyards is an example of a Semi Custom Build. The yacht’s exterior design, which remains unnamed, is a display of an elegant yet robust platform with generous exterior deck spaces. The expansive aft deck is designed to accommodate an Agusta Grande helicopter, complete with a storage and refueling hangar below deck.

The interior is spread across four decks and will be finished in a timeless nautical style that is finished with contemporary elements, which will be built and installed by German interio specialists, Fitz Interior. The owner, who is expected to spend prolonged period onboard, will be treated to an exclusive main deck area covering over 300 square metres with five additional guest suites on the lower deck.

Ocean Yachts, a family-owned company, has been building high-performance sports fishing boats since its establishment in 1977. The company's roots originate from New Jersey, U.S.A, where it began with its founder Jack Leek. Leek, a boat builder and racer, started Ocean Yachts with an aim to set new standards for speed, performance and comfort in sportfishing and cruising yachts.Over the years, Ocean Yachts gained a reputation for designing and producing fast, luxurious and efficient vessels ranging up to 73 feet in size. Each boat produced entails the careful craftsmanship of skilled boat builders who take pride in attention to detail, innovative designs and high-quality construction. Southern Ocean Shipyard or SOS was at the forefront of building bluewater cruising yachts, in the UK, with their iconic range of Van de Stadt designs. The Ocean 71 was a superb sailing yacht. Great to look at, offering powerful sailing and fast passage times and with practical and comfortable accommodation. Her split rig made her easier to handle. These yachts have voyaged to all corners of our planet, taking families and charter guests far.

Ocean 71, OCEAN JOY has the advantage of a very experienced owner who rebuilt her in the UK in 1998 and again in 2016. She is in cosmetically great condition, but importantly her systems and mechanics have all been upgraded or replaced in this ownership.

She offers enormous potential for serious sailing and is in great operational condition. Whilst writing, we would like to thank Tim Wright for the use of the photographs in this specification.

Owner’s Comments

I have owned Ocean 71, OCEAN JOY as a family boat for 25 years. I rebuilt her in 1998 at Hamble, including new engine room and systems, new generator, exhaust systems with separators from Halyard Marine, Aquafresh water maker, bilge pumping, shaft, Aqua drive, Maxprop, Condaria reverse cycle air conditioning with handles in four cabins, completely new domestic plumbing, complete rewire of entire boat (by Datayacht, Lymington), new fresh water tanks, galley redesigned with new Force 10 cooker and new refrigeration, both masts rebuilt by original maker and leads rearranged on main mast to facilitate shorthanded sailing, new standing and running rigging and new sails, new anchor windlass and anchoring system to allow singlehanded anchoring and retrieval. New stainless steel stemhead fitting, pulpit, pushpit and all stanchions. New Andersen winches including 3 electric. Most systems were designed with redundancy in mind and for long distance cruising.

Over the years, I have continually maintained and upgraded OCEAN JOY and in 2015/2016 did a refit at Fox’s, Ipswich and at Southampton Yacht Services. Items included, hull osmosis treatment including re-laminating above and below waterline. Awlgrip paint on topsides and deck. New Tek-Tank water tanks, new main engine Perkins 6354, 115hp non turbo with probably less than 500 hours to date, all new Raymarine instruments, new standing rigging including rigging screws, 1×19 wire and all toggles, all new running rigging, new refrigeration, new Sanimarin electric heads plumbed for both fresh and seawater, new Spade main anchor. Steering overhauled by Whitlock engineer.

In my ownership OCEAN JOY has spent several winters cruising the Caribbean with summers in Maine and the US northeast. I think I have probably sailed her 12 times across the Atlantic, sometimes two handed but generally three handed. She is an exceptionally easy to sail, long legged and seakindly passage maker. I generally plan on covering 200 miles a day minimum with some days making 240 miles.

OCEAN JOY was built to Lloyds +100A1 with Lloyds machinery certificate. When I rebuilt her I maintained her in class. Around 2012 I allowed class to lapse because Lloyds new regulations relating to items such as watertight bulkheads were not practically possible to comply with.

R25 Pairs - MindCraft

MindCraft is a very good example of the carbon R25 Pairs boat which will have had two successful crossings (TWAC 21 and TWAC 23) under her belt by the time she is available for collection from Rannoch Adventure in spring 2024. A standard list of loose equipment comes as part of the sale. SOLD

R45 - Sileni

This R45 Elite, Sileni, was built in 2021 and will have undertaken two Atlantic crossings by the time she is available in early 2023 after TWAC 2022. She has a Kevlar reinforced hull and is being sold with a long list of loose equipment for her next owner. SOLD

R25 Pairs - Polly Anne

Polly Anne was built in 2021, undertook TWAC 2022 as a pairs boat and will be rowed in WTR Atlantic 2023 as a solo boat. She will be available from spring 2024 and is currently in St Andrews, Scotland for training. All loose equipment to be sold as part of the package. SOLD

R15 - Boudicea

Boudicea was built in 2018, will have undertaken two Atlantic crossings and will be available after returning from TWAC 2022. She is a very solid boat and has always been well maintained with no expense spared. Boudicea is currently setup as a pairs boat, however she can be used for a solo rower (TWAC compliant). SOLD

R10 - City of Liverpool

This R10 was built in 2021 and will have done one Atlantic crossing. It is fully loaded with a whole host of loose equipment and will be ready for collection from the UK from June / July 2023. SOLD

R45 - Brugha

Brugha is one of the last classic R45s built in 2022 to the highest specification, with some optional extras included. The boat will be used in the 2022 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge and will be presented in top condition after the race. The boat is currently based out of Ireland and will be shipped to Burnham on Crouch, UK after completion of TWAC 2022. Some loose equipment will be available once its condition, post-race, is assessed. SOLD

R45 - Mrs Nelson

Mrs Nelson was the first R45 built, is still structurally in great condition and has 6 successful crossings under her belt. Significant work has been completed on her prior to her 2021 crossing including new EV100 with rudder sensor, new chart plotter, new solar panels and new lithium batteries as well as partial new re-wiring. R25 Pairs - Jack Keane

This is a great R25 that has undertaken two successful Atlantic Ocean crossings. Cosimo was built in 2018, will have undertaken two Atlantic crossings and had a full service from Rannoch Adventure after her return from TWAC 2021. She'll be available for collection in early 2022. SOLD ‍

R25 Solo - Annabelle

After completing one Atlantic crossing in 2020, Annabelle is one of only five specialist long distance solo boats with loads of capability and comfort. This boat is in great condition, free of any incidents, with a host of loose equipment and ready to row. SOLD

R25 Solo – Aoife

AOIFE was the winning boat in the solo class of TWAC in 2020. She was built in August 2019, is fully equipped with everything (loose and fitted) required for a transatlantic crossing, and is fully serviced. SOLD

SS1 has crossed The Atlantic Ocean twice, in TWAC 2018 and 2019 and is being sold in good condition. She comes with a host of loose equipment, some of it unused. SOLD

R25 Solo – Never Too Old

Built in 2020, this boat has had just one Atlantic crossing in TWAC 2020 in 56 days. This Carbon/Nomex boat is in very good condition and comes with a plethora of loose equipment and spares, new electronics and new gel batteries. SOLD

R25 Solo (custom) - Dina

Dina is a “no expense spared” custom R25 originally built for a personal project for Charlie Pitcher. This boat is tough and super light, built from nomex and carbon. Dina has been used for a handful of training sessions on the Crouch but has yet to do an ocean crossing – she is in mint condition. SOLD

R20 Pairs – Trident

The R20 is the lightest, most optimised and fastest pairs ocean rowing boat on the market. Trident has done one TWAC crossing and won! She is in the excellent condition and the Raymarine equipment has all been recently serviced. The electrics, navigation and communication systems are all top spec. SOLD

R25 Pairs - Pegasus

Pegasus has undertaken two Atlantic crossings, in 2018 as a pairs boat and in 2019 as a solo (two rowing positions have been maintained). This boat is close to Rannoch’s heart as has R25 hull no 1 – the first R25 built. She is a very well presented boat, in good order throughout. After her first crossing, lithium batteries, a spare rudder, remote control for the auto pilot and an additional set of oars have all been added. She comes with a host of loose equipment and 100+ packets of food. SOLD

R25 Solo - NEC ASPERA TERRENT

NEC ASPERA TERRENT was one of the newest built boats for 2019 TWAC – it was hull no 3 of the purpose built solo boats. It has all the latest thinking from Rannoch and represents the standard production version for the R25 solo. A very good example with little use outside its successful crossing. SOLD

R25 Pairs - Jaxx

Jaxx was built in 2019 and, even after her one successful crossing in TWAC 2019, she looks like new. Jaxx is a very light boat with a carbon hull which gives the boat additional stiffness. She also has lithium batteries and is being sold with a whole host of loose equipment. Jaxx is in excellent condition and is a great option for either a solo or pairs boat – she is just waiting for a new crew. SOLD

R25 Pairs - Mad Giraffe

Mad Giraffe is presented in great shape, ready for an ocean crossing. She has had one owner, undertaken one crossing (TWAC 2019) and has the added benefit of having carbon incorporated into the construction. She was rowed solo for her 2019 crossing but is actually a pairs’ boat. She is fully equipped and serviced with everything (loose and fixed) required for a transatlantic crossing, including spares/double of some equipment. As part of the purchase, the owner is willing to spend time with the purchaser going through everything and passing on everything he has learned in his race prep and Atlantic crossing. SOLD

R45 - Lady Jayne

Lady Jayne is an immaculate R45, built in 2019. She was a 2019/20 TWAC class winner and set a new world record. She comes with a long list of loose equipment, all in excellent condition. This boat is in perfect condition, is supplied “ready to race” and is one of the finest examples of a used 5's ocean rowing boat. SOLD

This all carbon R20 has been looked after by one owner and has been kept in undercover storage from day one. This is a brilliant boat that has been rowed as a pairs, but can be rowed solo or as a three man team.  All equipment has been well maintained and thoroughly looked after. A great example of a “concept class” boat that is ready to row straight away. After one successful crossing of the Atlantic in 2015/16 this boat is ready to row with very little work that needs to be done to it. SOLD ‍

R20 Pairs – Storm

STORM is a high spec R20 which has undertaken 2 Atlantic crossings to date: New York to UK Transatlantic in 2017 and Canaries to Barbados in 2018. In November 2018 the antennas, solar panel and associated parts were all replaced. Other parts that were replaced or fully serviced included rowlocks, seat wheels, bearings, seat pads as well as ST4000 tiller arms. She is ready to go. SOLD

R25 Solo - White Rows

White Rows is presented in top condition but has not been serviced. She has done one Atlantic crossing (Dec 2019). The boat comes with 1 set of good oars per rowing position. The boat is being offered with a comprehensive list of equipment needed for a transatlantic crossing (not food), including spare oars, etc. There is the option of purchasing separately an outboard mount, outboard motor and battery. SOLD

R25 Solo - Tamu’kke

Built in 2018 and equipped to the highest specification, Tamu’kke has been completely serviced and overhauled by Rannoch Adventure. Tamu’kke was used in 2018/19 for an independent solo Atlantic crossing. She is a world record breaking boat, being the first to cross any ocean between the 11th parallels - no boat has crossed an ocean closer to the equator. All satellite and communications equipment remains under warranty and comes complete with the original packaging. SOLD

R45 - Fortitude IV

Built in 2019, this is a specialist boat with no expense spared. She is about to embark on TWAC 2019 and is being sold on her return to UK after a post-race service at Rannoch. Fortitude IV comes with a galvanised single axle road trailer and a long list of top quality loose equipment which has been well looked after to date. There is also a full range of Garmin and Raymarine navigation equipment, although no oars or water maker are included in the sale. SOLD

Pairs - Roberta

Built as a pair (two rowing positions) this is a very well built and safe boat, as well as being one of the fastest "pure class" boats built. It has completed a solo and pairs Atlantic crossing, a Pacific crossing, and has also rowed with four crew members around GB, breaking the record. Originally built by Jamie Fabrizio, designed by Phil Morrison, this boat is ready to break more records. SOLD

Planned Outage for Some Cornell Lab Services

Several Cornell Lab of Ornithology services will be unavailable beginning March 19 through 6:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern time on March 21 . This is a one-time disruption while we migrate more than 1.6 billion eBird observations and additional project data to new servers. After the move, our websites will have improved reliability, stability, and room to grow. Thank you for your understanding during this outage.

Don’t worry, your data (checklists, media, Bird Academy courses, Merlin life list, etc.) will be safe during the migration and will be unaffected when we come back online.

Unavailable: The following websites and services will be down during this period:

• eBird.org , including eBird portals, eBird Alerts, the eBird API, eBird Science, and data downloads
• Macaulay Library
• Birds of the World

Partially affected: Several Cornell Lab projects will remain up but services that require a login will be unavailable:

• Bird Academy login and store will be unavailable. Users will be able to access most course materials if they were logged in to the site before the outage. Snap ID quizzes will not function during the outage.
• NestWatch and Project FeederWatch login and data entry will be unavailable both on the website and the app. Please record your data on paper and enter it after the outage ends.
• eBird Mobile app : The Explore and My eBird functions will not work during the outage. You can use the app to create checklists and then submit them after the outage ends. Your eBird data will be safe.
• Merlin Bird ID app : Sound ID will continue to work, as well as Photo ID, Step-by-Step, and Explore, using your recent locations only. You will not be able to save sightings, refresh your life list, update your location, or log in to your account. These functions will return when the outage ends and your data will be safe.

Unaffected: The following sites will continue to function as normal:

• Cornell Lab of Ornithology institutional website
• All About Birds
• Cornell Lab YouTube channel

What Can I Do During the Outage?

Go out birding.

• If you already have Merlin Bird ID app installed, you can still use it for some purposes. Though you won’t be able to update your location, save sightings, or refresh your life list, the ID functions will still work with your saved locations, and you can still browse species using Explore Birds
• If you already have the eBird Mobile app installed on your device, you can start eBird Mobile checklists during the downtime and submit them once eBird is back online. Learn how to Enter Sightings with eBird Mobile

• Watch wild birds live on Cornell Lab Bird Cams
• Browse our natural history films on the Cornell Lab YouTube channel
