Tesla Unveils Self-Sustaining Electric Yacht

' src=

Tesla just unveiled the design for its self-sustaining, all-electric Model Y yacht, and it represents just about everything you’d expect from the extremely creative and game-changing company. After all, Tesla has already made head-turning inroads in the automotive market and in outer space, so it seems reasonable that it might venture into the marine sphere with something new as well. (See the video below.)

Elon Musk started making Tesla electric cars in 2008. This week, Tesla’s market cap is $663.85 billion, equal to that of the nine largest car companies in the world – combined. He founded SpaceX in 2002; it became the first private company to send humans into orbit last year, and it launched 143 satellites on a single mission in January – the most ever.

Tesla is not for the faint of heart. And the 131-foot Tesla yacht, called Model Y, seems to fit into the family pattern. It has a Tesla color scheme, for one thing. Then there’s the low, flowing design that sets it apart and is somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship sitting in the water.

For power, the Tesla yacht does not have to pull up to a fuel dock, or even plug into an electric circuit somewhere. The yacht is meant to be fully self-charging; it generates its own power, relying on a hydro-electric system. A turbine on the bottom of the hull charges the batteries that run the yacht. And solar panels on the top charge the batteries when the yacht is not moving.

The yacht has only two decks, with a creative aft cockpit – Tesla’s take on the current beach club trend – that can be opened wide for sunbathing, hopping into the Jacuzzi or enjoying water sports. When the weather turns, you just push a button and a massive shutter comes down to seal it off.

The lower deck is a large social area, with round tables in the center. Push a button and four chairs emerge from the table sides. Private rooms are forward on that deck; one can be a spa; others can be bedrooms. The helm also is on the lower deck.

The upper deck features a “glass room” with glass walls for 360-degree views. It has a sunken bar under foot, and tiny holes in the ceiling to look at the stars. See the video here:

Where is the $700 million Tesla superyacht?

Where is the $700 million Tesla superyacht?

Remember the $700 million Tesla superyacht?

It was first teased all the way back in 2017 and momentum has been steadily building ever since.

But it’s now 2022, so where is it?

READ MORE! Elon Musk says his slightly-terrifying ‘Tesla Bot’ will be ready as early as SEPTEMBER

The Model Y yacht will be completely electric, making it silent on the water.

It will also rely on solar and hydroelectric power.

So what else gives this yacht its $700 million price tag?

The Model Y will be 40 meters (131 foot) long with two decks, two bedrooms and a jacuzzi.

The lower deck will have tables that can turn into seats with the touch of a button.

CHECK THIS OUT!

The top deck will have a bar and dancing area, covered by a massive roof with hundreds of LED lights that glow at night.

Inside, the yacht will have a circular bar, a lounge suite and two beds.

But what truly sets this yacht apart is its electric engine and self-sustaining capabilities.

At the very top of the ship will be a solar panel that charges two lithium batteries.

It will also have a turbine that works to turn waves into energy.

Render shows how the Tesla yacht would look if it was built

Designer Dhruv Prasad created renders of the yacht in 2017 and touted it as Tesla’s next big thing.

But Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reportedly had nothing to do with the project and has never publicly backed it.

While there’s no official information coming from Tesla, nor a release date, fans desperately hope the project will be backed by the company and come to life.

And surely if Musk can successfully send rockets into space and make eerily real humanoid robots, he can make Model Y happen.

Although Prasad might have to rethink the $700 million price tag, otherwise Musk might be the only person actually able to afford it.

Growing fleet: a look at elon musk's private jets.

Musk's latest addition to his business jet fleet is the Gulfstream G700.

  • Elon Musk's fleet of four private jets is growing thanks to the addition of the Gulfstream G700.
  • To date, Musk's most used private jet is the popular Gulfstream G650ER, whose extended range of 7,500 NM allows it to reach virtually the whole world from Musk's most used airports in California.
  • The Gulfstream G700 offers a unique onboard experience, with up to five living spaces, a master room with an ensuite bathroom featuring a shower, and large windows offering abundant natural light.

Who would say no to a private jet if given the chance to own one? Well, for some very few lucky people, it is not even a matter of owning a private jet, as they can afford a proper fleet. Take Elon Musk as an example, the popular entrepreneur whose fleet of private aircraft is becoming progressively larger.

A closer look at Musk's private jet fleet

You probably don't even think about boarding a commercial passenger jet when you are as rich as Elon Musk. Even the most luxurious premium cabins, such as first class, would not provide the unique experience offered by a private jet.

As of now, Musk relies on a staggering four-jet fleet:

  • A Gulfstream G650ER
  • Two Gulfstream G550s
  • A Dassault Falcon 900B

Additionally, the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and now owner of X, once known as Twitter, has decided to treat himself to even more luxury in the air by acquiring the new Gulfstream G700 .

The specifics of Musk's fleet

You might be probably asking yourself which features Musk's jets have. Let's start with the pair of Gulfstream G550s. The first G550 is registered N272BG and is a 2007-built Gulfstream jet with the following features:

According to FlightAware, the official owner of N2872BG is Falcon Landing LCC, a company connected to SpaceX and Tesla. The second Gulfstream G550, registered N502SX, was built in 2003. N502SX is also registered to Falcon Landing LCC. However, while SpaceX is indicated as the operator of this aircraft, the first G550, registered N2872BG, has Elon Musk listed as the operator .

Gulfstream G550 For Sale: How Much Should You Expect to Pay in 2024?

Moving to the Gulfstream 650ER, this jet is registered N628TS and boasts the following features:

An interesting fact you might not know about the Gulfstream G650ER is that this is the business jet holding the title of farthest and fastest flight in business aviation history. The following map shows the advantages this aircraft brings about regarding range. From Oakland airport, a popular one for Musk's fleet of business jets, this aircraft can reach virtually the whole world, including Europe, the Middle East, half of the African continent, and almost all of Asia and Oceania. This aircraft is said to be Musk's favorite, or at least, the one he flies the most, according to Supercar Blondie .

Gulfstream G650: The Celebrity Private Jet Of Choice

The Dassault Falcon 900B is a veteran of his business jets, with the first model being produced in the late 1980s. The following table summarizes the main characteristics, per Dassault .

In terms of rage, the following map illustrates where this business jet could take Musk on his business trips or holidays non-stop.

Rare Tri-Jet: 5 Fast Facts About The Dassault Falcon 900

The latest addition: the gulfstream g700.

The cherry on the pie in Musk's private jet fleet is the Gulfstream G700, a $78 million aircraft that brings luxury and efficiency to the next level. Just certified by the FAA today , the aircraft now has the green light to begin deliveries; whether Musk's plane will be among the first remains to be seen.

Offering the most expansive cabin in the industry, with up to five living areas, the Gulfstream G700 will be a game changer in the business jet industry. The specifics of Musk's latest jet addition are below, per information from Gulfstream .

With a cruise speed of 0.90 Mach (1,111 km/h) and an impressive range of 7,750 NM, the G700 allows for shorter travel times, which is not just positive for passengers. Indeed, shorter travel times mean more extended periods between scheduled maintenance visits and increased aircraft value.

Watch: Take A Tour Of Gulfstream's G700 With Its Own Interior Designer

The G700 also enhances the sustainability of the Gulfstream aircraft portfolio and, thus, of Musk's fleet. Indeed, the aerodynamic design of the wings, coupled with a brand new winglet concept and the modern Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, translate into an enhanced sustainable performance.

Business jets are synonymous with luxury, and the Gulfstream G700 is second to none for making the passengers feel like royals. The aircraft features 20 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows, the largest in the industry, allowing a lot of natural light to light up the cabin. The cabin is of the cleanest you can find in the sky, with plasma-ironized air being replenished every two to three minutes. The main bedroom features an en suite with a private shower and a leather toilet seat.

Impressive: A Look At Gulfstream's Ultra Fast G700 Private Jet

With Musk's fleet growing, it will be progressively more difficult for the serial entrepreneur to stay off the radar of those meddlers willing to know where the billionaire is flying off with his jets. Indeed, luxury is not the only priority for private jet owners. Privacy is also essential. Musk highly values his and that of his family, to the point that he offered $5k to a student to stop tracking his jets and share the location via his Twitter account.

A satellite over the earths surface

Starlink: The lowdown on Elon Musk's satellite internet system

Starlink Maritime is rewriting the rulebook when it comes to connectivity at sea – but how does it compare?

It’s not just Tom Cruise who feels the need for speed. For guests and crew alike, fast, ubiquitous internet access at sea is now seen as a must-have provision. Everyone wants to surf on the surf.

“Connectivity is no longer regarded as a luxury,” says Nick Maynard, marketing director for communications company OneWeb. “It’s now right up there with reasons why a superyacht might not go to sea, such is the expectation from principals.”

This rise in demand goes way beyond Netflix and TikTok users on board. From audiovisual systems to artificial intelligence, fast, reliable data connections have become de rigueur and in demand – and there’s a revolution afoot.

The transformative technology everyone’s talking about is Elon Musk’s Starlink Maritime. A SpaceX offshoot, Starlink currently comprises a constellation of 3,300 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites circling the planet at an altitude of 550 kilometres, give or take. In time, this is expected to increase to 12,000 satellites. It’s a radically different approach to the traditional VSAT system yacht owners will be familiar with: geostationary (GEO) networks that rely on satellites parked at some 36,000 kilometres and MEO (medium-earth orbit) satellites hovering around 20,000 kilometres.

The system is exciting to those in the connectivity business because LEO satellites can outperform GEO and MEO satellites by offering faster internet speeds. They’re also far cheaper to make and deploy, mainly due to their size. GEO satellites are physically bigger (around the size of a large van) and can only be launched one at a time, whereas Starlink’s LEO satellites weigh just 260 kilograms and 64 can be launched at once.

Why the need for so many? Simply put, fewer GEO and MEO satellites are required for coverage as they see so much more of the planet, given their distance from earth, whereas LEO satellites only see a fraction of the planet at any one time. GEO satellite coverage is planetary (barring the poles) but latency – the delay in data transmission – is high; LEO satellites can deliver much quicker speeds, but lots of them are needed to guarantee coverage. Imagine a torch shining on a globe – move it in and the beam gets tighter and brighter; move it out and it gets broader and dimmer.

Currently providing internet service to around 40 countries, Starlink is proving to be quite the disruptor. Compared to more conventional satcom systems, it also promises lower running costs and simpler installation, as there’s no requirement for a satellite dome. Instead, a flat antenna can be unobtrusively accommodated on deck. The only requirement is a clear line of sight with the sky overhead.

Starlink’s antennas can be flat because LEO satellites fly so low; the “look angle” of the receiver, therefore, is always close to vertical, so it doesn’t need a wide range of movement. The panels can also be smaller, given the strength of the signal. At the time of writing, Starlink was not yet offering global coverage, with internet provision restricted to the Mediterranean and coastal areas of the US, Europe and parts of South America and Australia. The company is expecting to achieve global coverage by around March this year.

One of the first yachts to install Starlink Maritime was the 54.9-metre Loon . Captain Paul Clarke reports the installation was easier than previous VSAT systems. “Almost six months after installing Starlink, we’re still in love with it,” he tells us. “We were able to turn off our satellite TV dishes and we now stream everything on all the TVs throughout. There’s no need to be locked into expensive, high-maintenance sat TV provider contracts, so it saves us $20,000 (£16,200) a year.”

Starlink Maritime’s pricing is also appealingly straightforward: $10,000 for two flat-panel antennas (only one is needed to provide internet, but two are supplied for redundancy in case of an output failure), and a monthly charge of $5,000 for unlimited data. Resellers, meanwhile, have recently started making the pricing even more attractive; connectivity company Anuvu is now selling single a Starlink Maritime antenna for as little as $2,500.

The upfront cost of the equipment is well below the tens of thousands you’d expect to pay for a sat dome on a superyacht, but the monthly subscription cost is similar or higher – but then again, so are the speeds.

Under optimal conditions, Starlink can offer a maximum upload speed of 40Mbps, and 350Mbps download per installation, which is considerably faster than most home broadband users experience. Of course, it won’t deliver this level of performance consistently in real-world conditions, particularly when coverage is patchy, or when you’re in port, competing for bandwidth.

Clarke notes that the system’s growing popularity does appear to be slowing things down. “We are definitely noticing congestion as more and more people make the change to Starlink,” he says. “We’ve also noticed that when in the same ports as cruise ships, we have a massive reduction in bandwidth. There is nothing official from Starlink about this, but it seems that they get priority.”

Still, Clarke remains enthusiastic. “You’ve got to understand that Starlink is still in its infancy and will continue to grow and get better over time as it launches more satellites.” He’s also a fan of the design: “Starlink dishes are flat, so no more need for the big sat domes. I think we will see some more sleek yachts coming out of the yards in the near future as a result.”

What are the alternatives to Starlink?

Of course, Starlink isn’t the only LEO game in town. Its sole competition – for now – is OneWeb, which has been steadily building up its own network of LEO satellites since 2019, with the aim of offering global coverage during 2023. Amazon, meanwhile, is about to muscle in with Project Kuiper, its proposed constellation of 3,000 LEO satellites. The company’s first prototype satellites will be launched this year.

Further providers are coming, too. If all the proposed constellations make it into space, it would increase the current number of satellites orbiting the earth 40-fold to around 200,000.

OneWeb’s Maynard says that the creation of a global constellation has been “a monumental, even Herculean” challenge for the company. “Each day our team has grappled with some big questions and decisions, for example how to efficiently manage a fleet of spacecraft from down here on earth, devising space-based connectivity service propositions that are relevant and easy to use, preventing orbital debris and cleaning up what’s already up there.”

Each OneWeb satellite is about the size of a washing machine and orbits the earth at 26,000km/h, at an altitude of 1,200 kilometres, which is described by Maynard as the “sweet spot” for delivering high-speed, low-latency connectivity globally.

A key differentiator between OneWeb and Starlink is that OneWeb’s constellation operates further away from earth, with a smaller fleet of satellites that each have a wider beam width. “We’re delivering global coverage with an agile, efficient and responsible fleet of just 648 satellites, far fewer than some other planned constellations,” says Maynard.

While OneWeb won’t be drawn on pricing  (“We are an indirect business, we can’t really comment on pricing as this would be determined by our distribution partners,” says Maynard), the company says it’s more cost-effective than the traditional VSAT hardware.

Using a dual parabolic antenna (more like a traditional satellite dish), yacht owners can expect up to 125Mbps download and 25Mbps upload speeds. OneWeb’s antennas are also smaller than those picking up higher-earth-orbit satellites, so they don’t need so much space on the radar mast.

It is offering a flat-panel version called OW1 for land-based installations, teaming up with Intellian to make it, but a marine version is not yet available, although market watchers don’t expect it to be too long before one is announced. Third-party flat-panel antenna company Kymeta, meanwhile, has been around the yachting scene for some time and offers a flat-panel antenna for superyachts that can integrate with OneWeb’s constellation.

Cardiff-based Excelerate has been in the satcom business for more than 20 years and is a OneWeb partner. “I’ve often said that in a technology business, I spend half my time being totally excited and enthused and half being terrified. Things never stand still, and the pace of change seems to be getting faster,” says David Savage, the group’s executive chairman.

The complexities of LEO are staggering compared to a GEO network, he says, which is why the technology has taken so long to realise and has led to several high-profile failures. The concept of LEO connectivity was first proposed 30 years ago, but the high costs scuppered the first companies through the door, including Iridium, which was forced into bankruptcy.

“LEO satellites are travelling at 25,000km/h, so when a yacht connects to just one it can only ‘see’ it for about 10 minutes and then it’s gone, so during that process, the yacht has to be handed over to the next one and so on and so on. LEO satellites have to work with each other as well as the ground – all at 25,000km/h – and there might be thousands of them, or at least hundreds, depending on which network,” says Savage.

Does this mean the end of satellite domes?

So is the writing on the wall for traditional VSAT linking to high-orbiting satellites? According to the owner of the 38.8-metre sailing yacht Atalante , an early adopter of Starlink Maritime, LEO is a serious contender. He describes Starlink’s tech as “transformational”, adding: “When the Atlantic and Pacific coverages are complete in March 2023 it will be revolutionary.”

Atalante had one of the first Starlink Maritime systems fitted in October 2022. “We have trialled it in port and on the recent transatlantic crossing from Palma to St Martin. In Palma, we would regularly see speeds of 35 to 50Mbps and sometimes even 80 to 90Mbps. There was not a noticeable difference between Palma and on passage to the Canaries.” He says the crew lost Starlink coverage about 430 nautical miles southwest of the Canaries and picked it up again about 175 nautical miles off St Martin.

“Class rules and insurance will mean we have to maintain our FleetBroadband service for safety communication, but if the reliability of the Starlink service continues to be good, I cannot see the point of paying for two parallel services when Starlink appears to be superior.”

As to whether Starlink is the future, Savage is sceptical. “For sure, I am in the ‘how cool is this’ camp, but I am also in the ‘where’s the catch’ camp, too. The Starlink Maritime option has  a lower contention rate, which means that  the service is shared by fewer users than the recreational vehicle or consumer offering, but  as far as I am aware, unlike the current GEO offerings, there is no way to guarantee a minimum level of service.”

Echoing the view of Loon ’s Captain Clarke, Savage adds, “The jury is out on what will happen when a large group of yachts are all trying to use Starlink in a crowded port or bay simultaneously. When it comes to guaranteed connectivity, a yacht needs as many plan Bs as possible. To rely on a single public or private network is courting disaster.”

A number of satcom equipment companies are now starting to offer solutions with as many of these plan Bs integrated as possible – taking advantage of the high speeds of LEO satellites, but with the ability to switch to higher-earth-orbit satellites if required. Whereas Starlink receivers can only see Starlink satellites, these companies have spread their bets.

Launched in January, Intellian’s latest offering, the XEO Series, automatically switches between GEO, MEO and LEO satellites – depending on which is offering the best coverage and speed. The XEO series requires the installation of a dual-band antenna, but its ability to operate across multiple frequencies means fewer domes are required.

Fort Lauderdale-based FMC GlobalSat, meanwhile, also offers a solution that packs in as much redundancy as possible, able to pick up GEO, MEO, LEO satellites across 210 countries, as well as 5G and 4G wireless networks. Emmanuel Cotrel, CEO and founder, says the best option for yacht owners is a hybrid solution.

Connection and navigation specialist KVH recently launched TracNet H90, a hybrid system that marries VSAT with 5G and Wi-Fi. Of Starlink and other LEO and MEO services in development, KVH’s Chris Watson says: “People are eager to learn about what they’ll offer. LEO services may be enough for some customers, and if they’re willing to accept the occasional outages, lack of live support and additional services and more.

“However, we’ve always believed that ‘good enough’ is never good enough when you’re on the water. That’s why we see the new LEO services as part of a genuinely robust connectivity solution for yachts. We designed our TracNet systems to offer that hybrid concept by seamlessly combining VSAT, 5G and Wi-Fi into a single antenna, while integrating and managing additional services, like Starlink, through intelligent, automatic switching for the best connections all the time.”

Savage’s company Excelerate, meanwhile, has launched a product called Hybrid Edge, which can pull in feeds from OneWeb, Starlink, 4/5G and higher-earth orbit satellites to offer the ultimate in redundancy and speed, since the device is able to combine bandwidths. It should be noted, however, that users will still need the relevant receivers on their radar masts for each connection to work.

“Starlink is grabbing the headlines now because it is the first LEO service to hit the mass market,” says Savage. “And while it isn’t the  only LEO service out there, it is enjoying a  period of very little competition, particularly because of the low capital outlay required by users to enjoy the service and the relatively low monthly connectivity costs compared to anything else out there.”

But competition for Starlink is growing as space gets more and more crowded with LEO constellations. Astronomers aren’t happy, but your teenager will be when they’re streaming the latest Netflix release in the middle of the Pacific.

Here's Everything You Need To Know About Tesla's Self-Charging Model Y Yacht

From space to the road and now to the sea, Elon Musk's Tesla Model Y Yacht is preparing to revolutionize boating.

Quick Links

The ingenious design, the arrangement of spaces in the yacht, the self-charging mechanism.

Tesla has been doing great in the automotive industry, and their new move could be in a new direction - superyachts. Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla, has been offering the world a futurism pathway . Some of his  projects include the Hyperloop , the Boring Company, SpaceX, Neuralink, and of course, the newest car models being produced one after the other by Tesla.

Reports indicate that when Musk started thinking about making a superyacht, he planned to launch a new company with a new name solely for yachts. However, as of now, this new creation is going to be established by Tesla itself. The model's name might come across as confusing as there is already a car model with the term 'Y.' The speculation is that Y stands for a yacht.

The upcoming creation is indeed a marvel to behold. Tesla keeps continuing in the journey to a technological revolution once again. Musk has come up with something that might have seemed impractical as a concept. Tesla's self-charging model Y yacht is the first electric model of its kind, and it comes with a host of attractive features.

The self-charging Tesla Model Y is the brainchild of Indian designer Dhruv Prasad . Reports suggest that Prasad had designed this beauty back in 2017, and ever since then, the Tesla company has been attempting to execute it.

Tesla's exclusive model of a superyacht is designed to resemble a squid-like form. Its sleek design ensures a bulk-free and fast-moving vehicle. The hull of this ship is about 131 feet or 40 meters long. The shape is that of a giant squid because it is narrow at the tip and broad at the rear. There is no physical wheel made of hardwood as it is all remote-controlled.

The superstructure of this yacht is like most other vessels. It covers the top deck while creating interior space for the deck below. However, this yacht's striking feature is a small deck at the back for sunbathing or enjoying the sea. The small and private deck is directly connected to the lower deck. The private deck at the end is also a perfect launching ground for small boats and water transports.

Tesla's Model Y yacht comes with two decks, one on the top of the superstructure and one below. There is no provision to build more decks because the superstructure's surface, which forms the ceiling to the lower deck, has circular holes for daylight to lighten up this space. At night or in the absence of sunlight, LED lights will lighten up the lower deck space. The floors of the decks are made of hardwood.

RELATED:  Meet NORD Superyacht: The Tuxedo'd Warship

There might be only three decks on this yacht if one considers the small deck at the back to be a separate one. However, the space on this vessel is not less. The interiors of the lower deck are massive in size. This yacht is more suited for throwing parties than for an extended stay, and the interior spaces are large enough to organize nightlife activities. There are bars and lounges for the guests to be comfortable and amuse themselves.

The marvelous circular tables in the lower deck's central region appear to have no seats. A creation by Elon Musk's team is bound to a few tricks. With a remote control system, the tables can go in circular motions to open up into seats. The upper deck is also quite spacious and open. There are glass rooms with beds, and these private areas have spa and massaging rooms as well. The captain might get their private bedroom as speculations suggest.

Last but not least is the Model Y's self-charging mechanism, which makes it stand out amongst luxury superyachts. The concept is to make this ship function on hydroelectricity and solar power.

The plan uses the turbine bearing the Tesla icon to charge the engines with the hydroelectric power produced by the ocean currents. This will keep the yacht charged as long as it is on the ocean waters. However, there is also solar energy which should work as a backup. The solar panels have been installed on the superstructure to absorb energy from the sun easily.

When the yacht is not moving, and there is no hydroelectricity generation, the ship can function upon solar energy. However, if you plan to set out on a cloudy day, that should not be a problem because the primary source of electricity for this vessel is the hydropower produced by its turbine.

Musk and his team have not revealed the cost of this yacht yet. However, it can be expected that this beast will come at a fancy price. With features like these, it can't help but feel like it will be worth it.

The World’s Richest Man Has A Surprisingly Modest Taste In Superyachts

The same can't be said for his taste in private jets, however...

The World’s Richest Man Has A Surprisingly Modest Taste In Superyachts

Many rich people seem to be compensating for something when they buy f*ck off Ferraris and stonking superyachts. Elon Musk, however, was recently spotted off the coast of Greece in a relatively small charter yacht called Zeus.

In recent years, Elon Musk has kicked Jeff Bezos off this throne as ‘world’s richest man.’ Musk’s current net worth is $234.4 billion. Jeff Bezos’ net worth, for comparison, is $143.9 billion. Elon Musk’s companies include SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company, Neuralink and OpenAI. He can be a bit awkward, as seen on Joe Rogan’s podcast , and some people hate his Promethean attitude , but he is a fan of dry humour, a genius and is apparently (sometimes) able to manipulate crypto and stock markets at whim (make of that what you will).

Elon Musk also owns a $70 million (AUD $101 million) private jet, but – surprisingly, when you consider the spending habits of many of his contemporaries – does not own a superyacht. To this end, on a recent vacation to Greece, Musk was spotted on a boat called Zeus, which can be charted for some $7,000 (AUD $10,109) a day.

elon musk yacht price

This isn’t cheap by most people’s standards. But when you compare it to Jeff Bezos’ US$500 million, 127 metre long superyacht – which is going to be the biggest in the world – or any one of these Russian oligarchs’ outlandishly luxurious oceanic steeds , Musk’s rented 24-metre yacht starts to look positively ‘Marie Kondo.’

WATCH: Jeff Bezos’ Superyacht Powers Through Rotterdam

Musk reportedly rented Zeus from SamBoat, which is a European online boat-rental company. According to Insider , the Zeus yacht that Musk was spotted on takes 20 people and is made for full-day excursions (when DMARGE checked SamBoat’s website , we could only find a boat called Zeus which takes 11 and is 12.3m long, however).

elon musk yacht price

Insider isn’t alone though. Yahoo News has also reported that the Zeus vessel Musk was spotted on is 24 metres long. So presumably there is another, bigger Zeus out there than the one we could find. In any case, Musk appeared to enjoy his day of leisure, being hosed off on the back deck and joking about it on Twitter (he wrote: “I should take my shirt off more often”).

Features and activities of Zeus include swimming off the back, chilling on the deck, sitting down for a meal (or sipping a cocktail) inside, sleeping in one of the four indoor berths and exploring the marvellous waters of the Aegean Sea with a snorkel and flippers.

C’est la vie .

Tesla’s Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos have been vying for the world’s richest person ranking all year after the former’s wealth soared a staggering US$160 billion in 2020, putting him briefly in the top spot .

Musk isn’t alone in seeing a significant increase in wealth during a year of pandemic, recession and death. Altogether, the world’s billionaires saw their wealth surge over $1.9 trillion in 2020, according to Forbes.

Those are astronomical numbers, and it’s hard to get one’s head around them without some context. As anthropologists who study energy and consumer culture, we wanted to examine how all that wealth translated into consumption and the resulting carbon footprint.

Walking in a billionaire’s shoes

We found that billionaires have carbon footprints that can be thousands of times higher than those of average Americans.

The wealthy own yachts, planes and multiple mansions, all of which contribute greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. For example, a superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools emits about 7,020 tons of CO2 a year, according to our calculations, making it by the far worst asset to own from an environmental standpoint. Transportation and real estate make up the lion’s share of most people’s carbon footprint, so we focused on calculating those categories for each billionaire.

elon musk yacht price

To pick a sample of billionaires, we started with the 2020 Forbes List of 2,095 billionaires. A random or representatives sample of billionaire carbon footprints is impossible because most wealthy people shy away from publicity , so we had to focus on those whose consumption is public knowledge. This excluded most of the superrich in Asia and the Middle East .

We combed 82 databases of public records to document billionaires’ houses, vehicles, aircraft and yachts. After an exhaustive search, we started with 20 well-known billionaires whose possessions we were able to ascertain, while trying to include some diversity in gender and geography. We have submitted our paper for peer review but plan to continue adding to our list.

We then used a wide range of sources, such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration and Carbon Footprint , to estimate the annual CO2 emissions of each house, aircraft, vehicle and yacht. In some cases we had to estimate the size of houses from satellite images or photos and the use of private aircraft and yachts by searching the popular press and drawing on other studies . Our results are based on analyzing typical use of each asset given its size and everything else we could learn.

We did not try to calculate each asset’s “ embodied carbon ” emissions – that is, how much CO2 is burned throughout the supply chain in making the product – or the emissions produced by their family, household employees or entourage. We also didn’t include the emissions of companies of which they own part or all, because that would have added another significant degree of complexity. For example, we didn’t calculate the emissions of Tesla or Amazon when calculating Musk’s or Bezos’ footprints.

In other words, these are all likely conservative estimates of how much they emit.

Your carbon footprint

To get a sense of perspective, let’s start with the carbon footprint of the average person.

Residents of the U.S., including billionaires, emitted about 15 tons of CO2 per person in 2018. The global average footprint is smaller, at just about 5 tons per person.

In contrast, the 20 people in our sample contributed an average of about 8,190 tons of CO2 in 2018. But some produced far more greenhouse gases than others.

The jet-setting billionaire

Roman Abramovich, who made most of his $19 billion fortune trading oil and gas, was the biggest polluter on our list. Outside of Russia, he is probably best known as the headline-grabbing owner of London’s Chelsea Football Club.

Roman Abramovich rests his hands on his face as he watches his Chelsea soccer team play.

Abramovich cruises the Mediterranean in his superyacht, named the Eclipse , which at 162.5 meters bow to stern is the second-biggest in the world, rivaling some cruise ships. And he hops the globe on a custom-designed Boeing 767 , which boasts a 30-seat dining room. He takes shorter trips in his Gulfstream G650 jet, one of his two helicopters or the submarine on his yacht.

He maintains homes in many countries, including a mansion in London’s Kensington Park Gardens, a chateau in Cap D’Antibes in France and a 28-hectare estate in St. Barts that once belonged to David Rockefeller . In 2018, he left the U.K. and settled in Israel , where he became a dual citizen and bought a home in 2020 for $64.5 million.

We estimate that he was responsible for at least 33,859 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2018 – more than two-thirds from his yacht, which is always ready to use at a moment’s notice year-round.

Massive mansions and private jets

Bill Gates, currently the world’s fourth-richest person with $124 billion, is a “modest” polluter – by billionaire standards – and is typical of those who may not own a giant yacht but make up for it with private jets.

elon musk yacht price

Co-founder of Microsoft, he retired in 2020 to manage the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest charity, with an endowment of $50 billion.

In the 1990s, Gates built Xanadu – named after the vast fictional estate in Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane” – at a cost of $127 million in Medina, Washington. The giant home covers 6,131 square meters, with a 23-car garage, a 20-person cinema and 24 bathrooms. He also owns at least five other dwellings in Southern California, the San Juan Islands in Washington state, North Salem, New York, and New York City, as well as a horse farm , four private jets, a seaplane and “a collection” of helicopters .

We estimated his annual footprint at 7,493 metric tons of carbon, mostly from a lot of flying.

The environmentally minded tech CEO

South African-born Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, has a surprisingly low carbon footprint despite being the world’s second-richest person, with $177 billion – and he seems intent on setting an example for other billionaires .

Elon Musk's left and right hands express a thumbs up gesture.

He doesn’t own a superyacht and says he doesn’t even take vacations .

We calculated a relatively modest carbon footprint for him in 2018, thanks to his eight houses and one private jet. This year, his carbon footprint would be even lower because in 2020 he sold all of his houses and promised to divest the rest of his worldly possessions .

While his personal carbon footprint is still hundreds of times higher than that of an average person, he demonstrates that the superrich still have choices to make and can indeed lower their environmental impact if they so choose.

His estimated footprint from the assets we looked at was 2,084 tons in 2018.

The value of naming and shaming

The aim of our ongoing research is to get people to think about the environmental burden of wealth.

While plenty of research has shown that rich countries and wealthy people produce far more than their share of greenhouse gas emissions, these studies can feel abstract and academic, making it harder to change this behavior.

[ Like what you’ve read? Want more? Sign up for The Conversation’s daily newsletter .]

We believe “shaming” – for lack of a better word – superrich people for their energy-intensive spending habits can have an important impact, revealing them as models of overconsumption that people shouldn’t emulate.

Newspapers, cities and local residents made an impact during the California droughts of 2014 and 2015 by “drought shaming” celebrities and others who were wasting water, seen in their continually green lawns . And the Swedes came up with a new term – “ flygskam ” or flying shame – to raise awareness about the climate impact of air travel.

Climate experts say that to have any hope of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels, countries must cut their emissions in half by 2030 and eliminate them by 2050.

Asking average Americans to adopt less carbon-intensive lifestyles to achieve this goal can be galling and ineffective when it would take about 550 of their lifetimes to equal the carbon footprint of the average billionaire on our list.

Elon Musk Drags Mark Zuckerberg For New $300 Million Superyacht; Internet Says Best Spot For Cage Fight

James Paul

Meta’s billionaire boss, Mark Zuckerberg, has reportedly bought a new mega yacht worth $300 million. The diesel-powered 287-foot yacht that is moored in Fort Lauderdale has sparked debate among climate-conscious netizens. The world’s fourth richest billionaire also owns a $70 million Gulfstream G650ER private jet. Meta apparently spent $6.6 million on Zuckerberg’s private jet flights in 2022. He was lambasted that year for making 28 trips in a mere 60 days, guzzling enough jet fuel to emit 15 times more carbon than an average American generates in an entire year. In 2023, the company splurged $2.3 million for Zuck’s globe trotting on his luxury jet. Zuckerberg also owns a $5 million Airbus H145 helicopter. In contrast, Tesla boss Elon Musk owns a Gulfstream G650 and no superyacht like his tech nemesis. While the much awaited Zuck vs. Musk cage fight never materialized, the duo’s endeavor to outmatch their carbon footprints makes up for it. Reportedly, Musk’s private jet trips emit 132 times the annual carbon emissions of an average American. Remember when Musk tried to stifle the young lad’s account that tracked the private jets of celebrities, including his and Zuck’s? Seems like bygones. And no one cares enough. Anyway, the third richest billionaire, Elon Musk, reacted to Nark’s multi-million dollar mega yacht. He quipped, “Looks cool, tbh.” He added that his work doesn't allow him any time for a yacht. Musk mentions that once he also possessed a yacht.

"You deserve the final say on matters affecting your investment in Tesla," an ad on X read. "Vote FOR the protection of stockholder rights and to preserve present and future value creation by supporting Tesla proposals 3 and 4."

The company aims to pass two separate proposals: One moving its state of incorporation from Delaware to Texas and another reapproving Musk's pay, which was struck down by a Delaware judge earlier this year. In January, when the pay plan was voided, Kathleen McCormick, a Delaware Court of Chancery judge, said that Musk had undue influence over the package because of his close ties to several board members and that Musk's sway over Tesla's board resulted in an "unfair price."

A spokesperson for Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk does not receive a salary from Tesla and his pay package centered on a series of goalposts around the carmaker's financial growth. The compensation plan was initially set in place in 2018. It involves a 10-year grant of 12 tranches of stock options that are vested when Tesla hits specific targets. When the company hits each milestone, Musk gets stock equal to 1% of outstanding shares at the time of the grant. Tesla says it has hit all of the 12 targets as of 2023.

The package was valued at around $55 billion at the time it was struck down by the judge.

The ad spend is one of several methods Tesla is using to push shareholders to vote in favor of the proposal. On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Robyn Denholm, Tesla's board chair, is planning to spend the weeks leading up to the June 13 shareholder vote traveling in order to drum up support for the initiative. Bloomberg also reported on Wednesday that Tesla had brought on a strategic advisor to promote the agenda.

Earlier in May, Denholm even sat down for a video promoting the pay plan.

"We don't believe one judge's opinion should void the will of millions of votes cast by all of the owners of the company," the Tesla chair said in the video. "So once again, we're asking you to make your voices heard by voting for the ratification of the 2018 performance award."

Is Elon Musk Worth $56 Billion?

  • Shareholders will soon vote on Elon Musk’s compensation package.
  • Investors may judge what Musk is worth based on the price of their shares.

Tesla Inc. ( NASDAQ:  TSLA ) investors will soon vote on CEO Elon Musk’s $56 billion pay package . The package is complex because it relies on factors such as shareholder growth and the financial growth of the electric vehicle (EV) and energy company. The answer has two parts: whether the board can give him the package and when shareholders bought the stock.

A judge struck down an earlier pay package and said, among other things, that Musk was too close to board members. At that point, the package had a maximum value of $55.8 billion.

One of a public company board's most important functions is at stake: it can almost without question set CEO pay. On some occasions, CEO pay packages are attacked by shareholders who want an individual “say on pay” vote. However, shareholders rarely reverse board decisions. The board has decided Musk’s package is fair and reasonable. So, based on the board decision metric, it is.

From a shareholder perspective, the pay package was put in place in 2018, when Tesla’s stock price was $20. It reached $381 in late 2021. It trades at $175 today. Investors who bought in 2018 and held, either to $381, or even $175, might think Musk has done a remarkable job. Those who bought at $381 may be very unhappy today.

Ultimately, public company boards are so powerful that the Tesla board can put Musk’s compensation on the current proxy where they think it should be. For shareholders, the “fairness” may be based on where they bought their shares.

Disney presents the new 2022-2023 lineups for ABC, ABC News, Freeform, ESPN, FX and National Geographic to the advertising and media communities at the DISNEY 2022 UPFRONT, live from Pier 36 in New York City.

Jimmy Kimmel rarely holds back during his annual monologue to Disney advertisers, but this year he was particularly brutal about the state of the business.

The ABC late-night host laid into CEO Bob Iger, the Golden Bachelor , streaming bundles, Star Wars , Elon Musk and many other topics.

Here were some of his best — and most cutting — jokes to the Madison Avenue audience:

— “ Golden Bachelor is a key part of our strategy to steal CBS’ viewers by putting them in a house together. We’re now launching the Golden Bachelorette , a game show where you can win an old lady. Joan is our new Golden Bachelorette . She has four kids and two grandchildren. Are the grandkids ready to see grandma get raw-dogged in a jacuzzi?”

— “I’m glad you’re inside. I heard Amazon left you guys out on the porch. You’re lucky you didn’t get stolen. It’s so great to be back in the abandoned shopping cart district.”

— “Bob Iger should be retired by now, he should be off on a yacht somewhere. Instead he’s here pretending to be excited about a new season of Will -Fucking- Trent . Bob tried to sell us last year, he put us up for sale, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, no one wanted to buy us. When no one was interested, Bob explained that he didn’t mean he literally wanted to sell us, he was just testing the waters for Wall Street. You know, Bob, when people test the waters, they usually dip in a toe, they don’t drown their children.”

— “We are bundling and while from the outside this may look like an act of desperation, from the inside, it also looks like that. We didn’t want to bundle, we had to — like when you’re freezing to death and it’s so cold you have to get into a sleeping bag with your uncle so you don’t die. That’s us. You’ve seen our churn rates. This is not just churn. It’s Chernobyl. Now finally our users can turn on their TV and get all the channels in one package for one price all supported by ads. We call it ‘basic cable’ and it’s gonna blow your mind. We’re consolidating. We are building one enormous ad-supported streaming pile of shit.”

— “It must be a good idea because it’s already getting copycats. Netflix, Apple and Peacock just announced their new bundle StreamSaver today. What an excellent name. StreamSaver sounds like a catheter you might find for sale on TuckerCarlson.com.”

— “All our content is available in one place — and also in multiple other places too.”

— “We have a sports bundle. ESPN is teaming up with Fox and Warner Brothers Discovery to give subscribers … live games, fantasy sports and betting. It’s a package we’re calling it Weekend at Divorced Dad’s House.”

— “What we’ve come to understand about our audience is they would rather be watching Netflix. Remember when Netflix thought they were above all this? They came in to destroy commercial television and now guess what? They want to sell you commercials on television. Now those smug b-holes have to lick your nuts like the rest of us!”

— “And of course [Netflix is] acting like they’re excited about it. Like, ‘Oh my god, we love ads in our shows, it just never occurred to use to put them there.’ Scumbags. We’ve been whoring ourselves out for years and know how to do it. We don’t need all this foreplay. We leave a key at the front desk, you come up to the room and have at it. Grab a bottle of Hulu, I’ll be facedown on the bed.”

— “This new season shows you the Kardashians like you’ve never seen them before, assuming you’ve never seen them before. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same shit as the last 17 years.”

— “Unlike our competitors, we don’t think of you as faceless ATMs. We pretend to give a fuck about once a year and throw shrimp at you like you’re some kind of sea manatees at SeaWorld. We think of you as freedom fighters. We think of you as American heroes fighting to keep television free for the people. Remember when Elon Musk was being interviewed, he told advertisers to go fuck themselves? We would never do that. But we do want to remind you that he did.”

— “Things are changing at CBS and not for the better. Young Sheldon is coming to an end after seven seasons. I know, I haven’t seen it either. But what I do know is that there’s a 100 percent chance that somewhere at CBS headquarters right now there is a whiteboard with the words Old Sheldon ? written on it.”

— “CBS also announced this will be the 14th and final season of Blue Bloods . Those assholes. Your grandpa has one thing left to live for.”

— “There are more FBI agents on CBS than there were at Diddy’s house.”

— “We are one unified Disney and we’re joining forces with Warner Brothers Discovery. I have to say, I haven’t seen this much corporate camaraderie in this business since last summer when they all worked together to starve the writers.”

— “[Disney+’s new show] The Acolyte is about a Jedi investigating crimes and the show is set during the High Republic-era of the Star Wars timeline — which means it takes place before The Phantom Menace and after I stopped giving a shit.”

— “You’re probably wondering why I am so giddy. It’s because Disney is ‘using proprietary meta tagging data that leverages video intelligence to tap into the moods and emotions within the content we create.’ That’s why I’m so proud of what we’ve done here. Until this afternoon, I thought Disney’s magic words were ‘bibbity-boppity, we own everything, fuck you.'”

— “We have the best AI analytics of anyone. We have a ‘reach machine.’ Okay. How far does that machine reach? Like, can it reach around you? Because I think that would be good.”

— “Just think about how you want to live your life. The only thing that matters, the only that truly matters is our relationships. It matters that our families are healthy, and that the interoperability of our various digital tools and sales platforms provide efficient data tracking and unparalleled identity management. That’s it.”

Kimmel made the remarks during Disney’s annual upfront presentation to advertising executives at the North Javits Center in New York City.

Inside the Amazon Upfront: An A-List Gauntlet Is Thrown

At the Amazon upfront, Reese Witherspoon appearing in character as Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods wasn’t even the actress’ best effort of the morning. At the Amazon upfront, Reese Witherspoon appearing in character as Legally Blonde ’s Elle Woods wasn’t even the actress’ best effort of the morning. That came about 45 minutes before her presentation wrapper, when she scolded her You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell for bragging about his romantic comedy prowess.

“I’m the fucking queen of looking cute while sleeping,” said Witherspoon, referring to that moment in every rom-com when one actor lovingly looks at the other while their eyes are closed. This delighted the crowd at the tech giant’s first-ever upfront presentation, as did much of star-packed show — once they got in, of course. Slow lines stretched down South Street, prompting a half-hour delay for the Pier 36 event.

“Thank you for whatever you went through to get in this room,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, when she finally took the stage. “I know it was a lot.”

But if hassle was in abundance, so was star power. Amazon breezed through the 70-minute spiel with very little ad-speak and a lot of talent. Alicia Keys kicked things off with her buoyant, Jay-Z-free rendition of “Empire State of Mind,” before the highest concentration of A-list actors currently west of Cannes paraded across the stage. Jake Gyllenhaal was on hand for a victory lap of his Road House remake, announcing plans for a sequel for the rapt crowd, before fellow action (albeit on TV) stars Alan Ritchson ( Reacher ) and Aldis Hodge ( Cross ) hyped their respective series. Witherspoon and Ferrell shared a teaser for their previously mentioned film, now premiering in January. Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer described their own yet-to-be-named action comedy series to media buyers. And, after the traditional film and TV portions had wrapped, Roger Federer received maybe the biggest applause of the morning. His retirement documentary, Twelve Final Days , bows on the streamer in June.

Amazon’s entry to the upfront market is unique. Juxtaposed to NBCUniversal and Fox presentations the previous day, each including jokes at the other’s expense, the Amazon pitch so clearly didn’t position itself in competition with the other media companies vying for advertising commitments this week. The only mentions of competitors were flattering, as worldwide head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Mike Hopkins acknowledged that Max and Paramount+ were among the myriad offerings on his own streaming hub.

Instead of making any distinction between film and TV efforts, the two were fused and then broken up by genre: action, comedy, young adult, unscripted, sci-fi and fantasy and sports. Young Adult was a notable point of emphasis with The Summer I Turned Pretty showrunner Jenny Han earning the distinction of being the first writer to get stage time this week when she joined the cast of her show. The series, for what it’s worth, also had the most packed activation during the reception with women lining up to take photos at a branded booth. It was, perhaps, a bit too early in the day for a “Bloody Dalton” at the Road House cabana bar.

Original content, be it A-list fronted films or Thursday Night Football , took the bulk of the attention because it’s sexy and, in some cases, talent were beholden to share in the promotion. (The only notable cameos the company didn’t secure for its presentation were Super Bowl champ and Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity ? host Travis Kelce and powerhouse YouTuber MrBeast, who recently set a competition series at the platform.) But the pitch from the everything store, appropriately, included everything — Amazon music, Wondery, Twitch, movie rentals, all of it.

The advertising segments were, thusly, forgivably brief. The biggest point — at least outside of the sprawling subscriber-base that is now watching ad-supported streaming, care of a January pivot for the platform — was that advertisers needn’t have their products sold on Amazon to benefit from buying ads on Amazon. “It’s full funnel advertising at scale for everyone,” said ad boss Alan Moss. “It no longer matters if you sell on Amazon or not.”

Once Moss repeated this point for a second time, Salke returned to the stage with pink-collared chihuahua in tote. She was soon followed by Witherspoon, in full Elle Woods regalia, who helpfully picked up a pen Moss had dropped with a dramatic “bend and snap.” She was on hand to reveal the last of what turned out to be a great many programming announcements of the morning, a Legally Blonde prequel series .

“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law School, she was just a regular ’90s high school girl,” Witherspoon said to squeals of approval.

This week may be about advertising and open bars, but stars are ultimately what inspire people to wait in line for an hour in the shadow of the FDR.

It’s official: Joan Vassos will be the Golden Bachelorette for ABC.

Vassos, a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockland, Maryland, was revealed to be the next senior looking for love when she made a surprise appearance Tuesday at Disney’s upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers.

She follows Gerry Turner as the lead in ABC’s Golden franchise, becoming the first Golden Bachelorette star after the network formally picked up the series following heavy speculation in February.

The Golden spinoff revitalized The Bachelor franchise for ABC and producers Warner Bros. Television. The series will launch in the fall on Wednesdays on ABC. Claire Freeland, Jason Ehrlich, Bennett Graebner and Andrew Frank exec produce the series.

As THR previously reported, casting for the Golden Bachelorette was going to be “different,” according to Ehrlich, who said the process will be “almost like doing it for the first time all over again. What is it going to be like with 20-some older men living in the Bachelor Mansion? We don’t know, but I’m pretty sure it will be different and interesting. And that’s what makes me want to watch.”

While Golden Bachelor became a ratings hit for ABC and reinvigorated interest in the aging franchise, Turner’s marriage to winner Theresa Nist was short-lived and the couple divorced three months after their televised wedding. The duo said in an interview that a The Hollywood Reporter report on Turner’s not-so- Golden past “didn’t play into” their decision to split. They cited long-distance and dedication to their respective families as the biggest hurdles.

The decision to cast Vassos ends months of speculation that Nist or Golden Bachelor runner-up and fan favorite Leslie Fhima, a 65-year-old fitness instructor from Golden Valley, Minn., could topline Golden Bachelorette .

Vassos’ time on the inaugural season of Golden Bachelor was cut short; she eliminated herself during week three of the dating competition over a medical concern with her daughter.

Vassos, whose husband died after 32 years of marriage, is a mother of four and grandmother of two. Per her ABC bio, she finds solace “in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking. Now, as she steps into the golden spotlight and begins her journey to seek love once more, Vassos envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family.”

The Golden Bachelorette is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon.

Sazz’s murder case will re-open in this summer on Hulu .

As part of Disney’s upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers Tuesday, Hulu revealed the premiere date for the upcoming fourth season of Only Murders in the Building .

Season four of the Dan Fogelman comedy starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin will debut Aug. 27 and release episodes weekly.

As previously reported, season four of  Only Murders will follow Mabel (Gomez), Charles (Martin) and Oliver (Short) searching for answers about who killed Sazz (Jane Lynch), if they were actually aiming for Charles and why anyone would want to kill either of them.

Showrunner John Hoffman  previously told THR that the theme of season four will be consequences. “I think the idea of what you create is a thing you put out to the world, and sometimes you can’t be prepared for the repercussions of what potentially the world does with your thing, and how they feel about it,”  he said . “That’s a challenging line to walk, and sometimes you have to face it in that way. So, the podcast and everything else that’s happened, and what it all means, and what it could have been meaning all along. That’s a really interesting world to look at for these three who stepped in that way.”

Season four will see Meryl Streep return as Loretta, Oliver’s love interest. She’ll be joined by recurring additions Eva Longoria ,  Eugene Levy , Kumail Nanjiani, Molly Shannon and Zach Galifianakis as Sazz’s murder investigation stretches to L.A. as well as New York.
