Test Say 29E Runabout Carbon

Für den Elektriker auf Speed

Die Say GmbH aus Süddeutschland hält den Rekord für das schnellste Elektroboot. Das ist zudem recht alltagstauglich, ebenso wie das Benzin-Derivat. Die größte Überraschung bietet der Rumpf.

Es passiert nicht häufig, dass man einem Boot begegnet, das Geschichte schreibt. Heute ist jedoch so ein Tag: Die Say 29E Runabout Carbon , wie sie vollständig heißt, hält seit einigen Wochen den Geschwindigkeits-Weltrekord für Elektroboote. Summend liegt sie an einem Liegeplatz am Bodensee. Der Auftritt? Eher undramatisch mit Polstern auf der Motorklappe, zwei bequemen Sportsitzen, einer versenkbaren Badeleiter in der Heckplattform, sowie einer Minikajüte im Vorschiff, die heute jedoch mehr als Stauraum dient. Auffällig sind dagegen die Proportionen mit hohem Bug und steilen Flanken, ganz der Gegensatz zu sonstigen Speedboats.

Ansonsten ist sie unlackiert wie ehedem der legendäre Silberpfeil. Nur war der aus Aluminium und die Say ist aus Kohlefaser-Sandwich, dem leichtesten und zugleich festesten Werkstoff, der für ein Boot derzeit zur Verfügung steht und folglich mattschwarz. 380 Kilogramm bringt der nackte Rumpf lediglich auf die Waage, rund zwei Tonnen beträgt das Gesamtgewicht. Auf ihre Leistung als Rekordboot deutet das Dekor, dass an einen Erlkönig im Testbetrieb erinnern soll, der nicht erkannt werden will – ganz im Gegensatz zur Say 29E. Sie will wahrgenommen werden und natürlich auch gekauft. Beeindruckende 415.319 Euro wird sie im Serientrimm kosten.

Für drei Modi gibt es kleine Knöpfchen: Harbour (Schleichfahrt für Manöver), Sport (für den normalen Fahrbetrieb) und Insane (Wahnsinn).”

Dafür bekommt man ein Elektroboot, das einmal auf der Teststrecke mit 89 Stundenkilometer (also 48 Knoten) geloggt wurde. Ob das sinnvoll ist, kann man dahingestellt sein lassen, Aufmerksamkeit erregt es beim derzeitigen Elektroantriebs-Hype auf jeden Fall. Wenn man den Startschlüssel des Prototypen umdreht geschieht unerwarteter Weise eine ganze Menge. Vernehmlich fangen die Kühlwasserpumpen an zu brummen, die Hydraulikpumpe für die Lenkung schnarrt und der Motor melden sich mit einem Mahlen zu Wort, als wir den Gang einlegen. Ein Prototyp, wie gesagt, alle Aggregate geben hier noch die Laufgeräusche ungefiltert an die dünne Außenhaut ab. In der Serie soll das anders sein.

Wer die Bewegung des Bootes spürt, wenn man von Backbord nach Steuerbord geht, ahnt, dass unter dem kantigen Äußeren eine ganz andere Überraschung  wartet: Die Say 29E Runabout Carbon ist in der Wasserlinie schlank, eher ein Very Slender Vessel, wie es Insider extrem schlanke Boote nennen, versteckt durch ein breites Deck und eine noch breitere Badeplattform. So ein Boot wird derzeit kein zweites Mal angeboten. Das ist fast ungewöhnlicher als der Elektroantrieb mit zwei gekoppelten Motoren, insgesamt 314 Kilowatt maximaler Leistung (oder nach alter Rechnung 421 PS) und zwei Batteriepaketen, die 100 Kilowattstunden zur Verfügung stellen. Das ist ein Ausblick in die Zukunft energieeffizienter Boote. Die Rechnung dabei ist einfach: Schlanke Wasserlinie gleich wenig Widerstand, gleich wenig Energieeinsatz; zudem begünstigt durch das extrem geringe Eigengewicht der Say.

Beim Starten geschieht unerwarteter Weise eine ganze Menge: die Kühlwasserpumpen brummen, die Hydraulikpumpe für die Lenkung schnarrt und der Motor melden sich mit einem Mahlen zu Wort.”

Entsprechend ungewohnt ist das Fahrverhalten, wenn man den Hebel für den Schub auf voll voraus schiebt: Die Say hämmert nicht über die Wellen wie ein gewohnter Motorbootrumpf, sondern schneidet elegant und weich hindurch wie ein Katamaran mit seinen schlanken Rümpfen. Die Say 29E ist also trotz ihres Speeds kein Gleiter, sondern par Definition ein Verdränger, von ihren Erbauern Wave Cutter genannt. Aufstehen, um den Fall ins Wellental abzufedern, ist entsprechend unnötig – ein völlig unerwartetes Fahrverhalten, das manchen Mitfahrer begeistern wird.

Überraschung Nummer 2 kommt demensprechend, wenn man das Schiff voll in eine Kurve zwingt. Bei reichlich über 30 Knoten krängt das Elektroboot gemächlich und akzeptiert jeden Lenkeinschlag was zu beeindruckenden G-Kräften führt. Durch die lange, schmale Wasserlinie würde sich das Boot noch weiter zur Seite legen wollen, würde das nicht durch die über den Rumpf hinaus kragende Badeplattform verhindert, ihre Länge vermeidet zudem das Aufstellen des Bugs beim Beschleunigen. Damit ist die Plattform nicht nur ein Badeplatz in der Bucht, sondern hat eine fahrtechnische Notwendigkeit.

Durch die schmale Wasserlinie würde sich das Boot weit zur Seite legen wollen, würde das nicht durch die über den Rumpf hinaus kragende Badeplattform verhindert.”

Wäre der Begriff nicht so furchtbar überstrapaziert, könnte man das Boot eine Revolution nennen, aber hier trifft es ausnahmsweise einmal zu. Nicht zu vergessen ist natürlich der Elektroantrieb. Für drei Modi gibt es kleine Knöpfchen: Harbour (Schleichfahrt für Manöver), damit man beim Rangieren nicht aus Versehen in die Kaimauer fährt, Sport (für den normalen Fahrbetrieb) und Insane (Wahnsinn), die Vollgasfunktion. Damit schießt die Say wie von einem Gummiband gezogen heute bis auf 43 Knoten (80 km/h) und geht nach 30 Sekunden automatisch in den Sportmodus zurück, damit Motor und Spannungswandler nicht überhitzen und die Batteriekapazität nicht zu schnell schwindet. 33 Knoten sind im Sportmodus möglich.

So motorisiert wird die Elektro-Say zum ultimativen Spaßboot für Reviere, auf denen Verbrennungsmotoren verboten sind, und somit bisher auch reinrassige Runabouts. Dazu gehören in erster Linie die süddeutschen Seen, sowie die in Österreich und der Schweiz. Auf diesen begrenzten Revieren geht auch die Reichweite in Ordnung. In langsamer Gleitfahrt mit sagen wir einmal maximal 25 Knoten kann man rund eineinhalb Stunden vor sich hin schnurren. Wer den Insane- und den Sportmodus auskostet, sollte sich nach einer Stunde eine Steckdose suchen.

Ein grünes Boot will die Say 29E trotz ihres effizienten Rumpfs nicht sein. Dazu sind weder die Materialien, noch der Stromverbrauch geeignet.

Auf Sprit: Die grüne Mamba

500 Kilogramm leichter, eine erheblich größere Reichweite, sowie eine höhere Endgeschwindigkeit und ein geringerer Preis: Das Benzin-Derivat der Say 29E heißt Say 29 Runabout Carbon und kann alles besser – wenn man einmal vom Fahrverbot auf den oben genannten Seen absieht. Selbst bei der Beschleunigung steht sie dem E-Modell nur auf den ersten Metern nach.

Im Gegensatz zu einem Auto kommt die Maschine aufgrund des Propellerschlupfs nahezu augenblicklich auf Drehzahl und verfügt somit (ebenso wie die E-Maschine) fast verzögerungsfrei über das maximale Drehmoment. In Zahlen bedeutet das 10,3 Sekunden von 0 auf 47 Knoten, ein gewaltiger Wert. Kurz danach liegen beim Test maximal 52 Knoten (96 km/h) an. Ansonsten brüllt die Say 29 die Abgase ohne jede Dämpfung unter der Badeplattform hervor, auf mildernde Auspuffklappen wurde verzichtet.

Alles, was das Elektroboot kann, kann die Benzin-Variante in Extremform. Maximaler Speed, enge Kreise mit jeder Drehzahl (nur begrenzt durch die Mägen der Mitfahrer), Vollgas durch die Dampferwelle. Der schlanke Rumpf läuft weich durch die See, das Heck rutscht in Kurven nicht zur Seite, krallt sich ins Wasser ohne dass der Propeller jemals Luft zieht – Insane, Wahnsinn! Auch wenn das hier im Cockpit im Gegensatz zum Elektro-Bruder nirgends zu lesen ist.

Die Maschine kommt aufgrund des Propellerschlupfs nahezu augenblicklich auf Drehzahl und verfügt somit fast verzögerungsfrei über das maximale Drehmoment.”

Say fahren heißt sich auf das Wesentliche zu konzentrieren, alles andre würde das Konzept wohl verwässern. Es gibt es eine Schlupfkajüte, Sound-Anlage, Kühlschrank und optional ein Biminitopp, sowie zwei komfortable, gefederte Ullmann-Sitze, weitere drei Mitfahrer finden auf einer aus der Liegefläche hervor klappenden Sitzbank Platz. Natürlich besteht der Rumpf des in der Werft intern Green Mamba getauften Schnellboots ebenfalls aus Kohlefasern. Mit allen Einbauten wiegt sie leer 1,5 Tonnen, auch das ist rekordverdächtig, was sich trotz der Motorisierung an den moderaten Verbrauchswerten ablesen lässt. Bei 26 Knoten begnügt sich die Say 29 mit 32 Liter pro Stunde.

Aufgrund des geringeren Gewichts kann der Rumpf in der Wasserlinie im Gegensatz zur E-Variante übrigens 30 Zentimeter kürzer ausfallen.

Das schmale Boot hinterlässt nur eine minimale Heckwelle, ein gutes Zeichen für ein effizientes Motorboot. Zum Wakeboarden ist die Say 29 , egal mit welcher Motorisierung, daher vermutlich nicht geeignet.

Die Ausstattung? Es gibt es eine Schlupfkajüte, Sound-Anlage, Kühlschrank und optional ein Biminitopp, sowie zwei komfortable, gefederte Ullmann-Sitze.”
