Sep 07, 2024, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Croton Yacht Club, 6 Elliot Way, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520, USA

About the Event

Each year, Ferry Sloops proudly participates in the Hudson River Valley Ramble by offering free sails on the Hudson River during River Day.  Join us on Saturday, September 7 at Croton Yacht Club.

The Hudson River Valley Ramble is an annual event series that celebrates the history, culture and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, as well as the amazing landscape, communities, and trails throughout the region.

Scheduled departure times for the free sail trips aboard Ferry Sloops' sloop-rigged catboat, "Whimbrel" are at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm from Croton Yacht Club

Each sail will be approximately 45 minutes long. The free sails are on a “first come, first served” basis. No reservations will be accepted prior to the sail day. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table (under the big white tent) beginning at 10:30am for any of the day’s scheduled sail times.

The boat’s captain reserves the right to cancel any or all of the day’s sails if weather conditions make it unsafe for sailing. There is NO RAIN DATE.

Passenger restrictions: Must be at least 12 years old, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian (no exceptions).

For safety and boating etiquette, we ask that guests aboard our boat wear boat shoes (docksiders or non-marking sandals) or light-colored soled sneakers only. Since it’s always cooler on the water, bring a light jacket or windbreaker and a hat. Also, don't forget the sunscreen.

Free parking is available on the street (Elliot Way) and in the Croton Landing parking lot.

September 7, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Croton Yacht Club will be sponsoring its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration on Saturday, September 7th, from 11 AM – 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson. The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources.

There will be events and exhibits throughout the day targeting both children and adults, focusing on the history and ecology of the river.

Events and exhibits will include: a seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released; viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed; hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making; sail boat rides, and local artist displays and sales. Also, educational seminars will be conducted by NYSDEC Fisheries Biologist, Amanda Higgs on the Hudson River Sturgeon and Riverkeeper’s Nicholas Mitch who will speak about the ecological impact of the controversial proposal to build storm surge barriers at the mouth of the Hudson River.

Free sailboat rides, will be offered by Ferry Sloops aboard their 22’ sloop-rigged Catboat the “Whimbrel” on a first come first served basis. The sails will depart at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM and 3PM. Fishing rod and reel combinations will also be awarded as prizes. All youths wishing to fish at the Yacht Club must be accompanied by an adult.

The Croton Yacht Club looks forward to coordinating this event annually because it provides the membership and local exhibitors the opportunity to share their river related knowledge and expertise with the community, especially the children.
