Reviewed: Absolute Yachts Navetta 64

The bluff-bow Navetta 64 is the latest new-age trawler from Italy’s Absolute Yachts . This model’s biggest evolution from the builder’s other five Navettas is a forward-raked windshield, a feature as practical as it is stylish. The proportionally larger side windows toward the bow are now a brand signature for Absolute, creating a bold profile in concert with detailing such as the sturdy molded rail that sweeps aft to the transom from the high foredeck.

For go-anywhere cruisers, the Navetta 64 has all the appropriate design elements. A hardtop protects the flybridge, whose overhang shields not only the aft deck but also the side decks. There are booth-style seating and sunbathing space on what Absolute calls the “foredeck terrace.” There’s also an optional glazed transom—another big design departure for this model—that conceals an air-conditioned space. This area can serve as a beach-club lounge during the day or as a double-berth stateroom for occasional overnight guests (a flip-over backrest converts the mattress into a sofa). With that aft space in use as a stateroom, the Navetta 64 can sleep eight people in four en suite staterooms.

The aft space has two sliding glass doors that seal pneumatically and are RINA-certified to ensure the compartment is watertight when they’re closed. Even if, in an emergency, the space were flooded, it would not compromise the yacht, according to the builder. And the engines won’t start if the doors are left open.

In addition to the sliding doors, a watertight door from the space’s portside head leads forward to the engine room, which can be accessed through a hatch in the cockpit sole.

If you’re thinking this stern design means there’s no place for crew, you’re wrong. A crew cabin is amidships to starboard, with its own stairs descending from a door on the starboard side deck—the sort of arrangement commonplace on larger motoryachts.

The Navetta 64′s interior styling is contemporary cool with elm and walnut furniture, oak soles, and a harmonious blend of textures and sheens. The main salon includes a galley and dining table aft. A drop-down window helps open up the galley to the cockpit. Amidships is a lounge where most of the furniture is by Minotti.

Forward of the salon, the bridge is raised, giving the lounge abaft it a feeling of intimacy. There are two seats at the bridge with the helm outboard. Most instrumentation is by Garmin. The commanding position delivers clear visibility forward and to the immediate sides, particularly so to starboard, thanks to an optional side-deck glass door whose top panel opens. Cameras and a stern docking station can mitigate the lack of direct sightlines aft, and there is the option of enclosing the upper helm position, which has 360-degree views.

The owner’s stateroom is forward, several steps down from the salon. The forward-facing berth has plenty of space around it, splendid views thanks to Absolute’s signature glazing, and en suite facilities in the bow with another set of windows and opening portholes. Two other en suite staterooms occupy the amidships space on the lower deck. There’s an athwartships double to port and a twin-berth setup to starboard.

Absolute’s design team also focused on utility in the Navetta 64. The laundry room’s door is set into the same bulkhead that separates the owner’s stateroom from the rest of the accommodations, but the laundry room itself is accessed from the lower-deck lobby. There’s space for a washer/dryer and stowage for towels and linens. Another door beyond the appliances reveals a service tunnel that runs all the way forward to the chain-locker bulkhead and deep stowage compartments.

Designed for a maximum speed in the mid-to-high 20s and a fast cruise in the high teens, the Navetta 64′s standard power is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1200 diesels. However, most owners have opted for the biggest machinery offered: twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 diesels. Absolute says the optional powerplants are ideal for customers who run heavy with lots of guests and luggage, the largest possible tender, and the biggest stabilizer. Hull No. 1, the first of three Navetta 64s destined for the United States so far, has the big horses and a reported top speed of about 28 knots.

The Absolute Navetta 64 may have a trawler-inspired aesthetic, but the yacht’s fast-cruising performance, modern design elements and multifunctional spaces create a new and welcome style of cruising yacht.

The Navetta 64, The Absolute Pathfinder, like her siblings has 100% Navetta DNA and it easy to see why. The wide and uninterrupted side-glass window, which runs from the aft mirror to the windshield, outlines her exterior shapes. These are characterized by the significant enlargement of the bow windows and the opening of the side gunwales in the cockpit.

The flybridge has a far greater width than found on any other 64-foot yacht. On the main deck, the salon is surrounded by frameless glass windows, offering breathtaking panoramas. The entire main deck is overlooked by a raised helm and a massive windshield of over 10 feet, curved and frameless for absolute visibility.

Below the deck, the master cabin is placed in the bow with a king-size berth, large side windows, and a full-beam head. The VIP suite really stands out: its livability is astounding and the materials selected are simply exquisite. Furthermore, the third cabin is a double stateroom with single beds. Absolute Yachts 64 Navetta

From the very beginning of the design process, Absolute Yachts selects all of the details in every space meant to improve the customer experience before the boat is ever created. From the size of the windows in the bow to the angle of the amenities in the optional 'Beach Club', all of the features important to the customer are laid out first followed by the design of the boat. This ensures that nothing is compromised when it comes to the enjoyment of every space on each new model. By not confining themselves into a specific set of parameters or space and finding solutions instead of compromising, the Absolute team has achieved remarkable success in creating stylish, contemporary living spaces.

The new Absolute Navetta 64 is no exception to this process and has improved upon an already dynamic model line of the Navetta Series . One of the changes implemented from the previous models is the opening of the side wale in the cockpit which not only increases the floor area, but also gives anyone sitting in the cockpit a beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean.

The transom also has a very exciting option. The standard Navetta 64 has a central door with two windows leading into the large storage area. As an option though, the transom area can have two full-window doors that open to a large living space complete with a convertible sofa/bed, two separate wardrobes, separate air-conditioning system, TV, stereo, fridge, head, and shower. It can literally be an additional VIP cabin that's right at the edge of the water. And there's no need to worry about water leaking into the space as Absolute has installed a pneumatic gasket that seals the door to be watertight.

Perhaps the most intriguing addition to the Navetta 64 is what Absolute has done with the cockpit doors. For the last several years the trend in yachting has been to place the galley aft near the cockpit doors with a side windows that opens for serving. Absolute has improved upon this design by including fully opening cockpit doors to extend the outdoor living area inside the salon. Combined with the large picture windows in the salon, you'll truly feel immersed in your environment.

Also unique to this new model on the flybridge is a  "perimeter guide", an optional transparent cover that allows you to close off the forward part of the flybridge during inclement weather. This is an exceptional option for boaters who spend part of their year in the Northeast and may still boat as the weather is cooling. Additionally on the flybridge is a sunroof in the hardtop that can be opened.

Aft on the flybridge is a sunbathing and entertainment terrace. Perfect for socializing or lounging in the sun's rays, this space comes equipped with an icemaker, BBQ, sink, cabinet storage for dishes, a large teak table for dining al fresco, and two L-shaped sofas. This is truly an outdoor galley and dining area with a view.

Cruising with guests for extended trips is a delight on the Absolute Navetta 64. The owner's suite is placed in the bow for multiple reasons including additional size, incredibly large windows for great views, privacy, and quietness. The owner's suite stretches the entire beam of the yacht and offers excellent storage opportunities. The en suite master bathroom is uniquely placed in the very front of the bow area which has resulted in more room, large windows with incomparable views, and again, great storage.

The VIP cabin is placed midship and offers a large double bed. This is, of course, in addition to the optional VIP cabin that can be placed in the transom area. The main VIP stateroom has a massive portside window and its own en suite bathroom. The third guest cabin in the lower deck offers two twin beds and has its own bathroom that also doubles as the day head on the boat via a separate entry.

There is a crew cabin as well on the Navetta 64 which is accessed via a door on the starboard side walkway which allows the crew movement from the engine room to the aft platform without entering the salon. The crew space is adequate for a much larger boat and definitely not an after-thought. Extra sound absorbent material was also added surrounding the engine room and crew cabin so there is maximum privacy between the crew and the guests on board.

You can expect an incredible ride with excellent fuel efficiency thanks to the Volvo Penta D13 engines. Owners have the option of selecting either 1200HP or 1350HP engines, both within the IPS 30 range. Absolute recommends the 1200HP engines for normal boating, however, the 1350HP's may be necessary should the owner choose to add a Gyro Stabilizer, heavy tenders or watertoys, or have the maximum number of guests on board frequently.
