Depp purchased the Turkish-made yacht for an undisclosed amount and named it "Vajoliroja." At the time, he was dating Vanessa Paradis. The yacht name is a combination of their names, along with their children's, Lily-Rose and Jack.

Depp and Paradis were seen enjoying the yacht on several occasions with their daughter Lily-Rose in 2011. The couple split up in 2012.

When Depp married  Amber Heard in 2015, he renamed the yacht "Amphitrite." Fifteen months after the wedding, Heard filed for divorce.  The pair is now embroiled in a bitter trial that began in April.

The yacht has played a role in Heard's testimony against Depp. Heard claimed Depp slammed her against the wall in one of the yacht's cabins. Heard said Depp was drunk and upset that he had to sell the boat. Depp has denied that he ever abused or assaulted Heard.

Depp sold the yacht to J.K. Rowling in 2015 for $27 million . The yacht has since been sold to a US businessman and is now named "Arriva."

Depp hired California-based interior designer LM Pagano to renovate the yacht in 2008.

A post shared by LM Pagano Design (@lmpaganodesign)

Pagano, who designed the yacht, said she wanted the 47.6-meter (156-foot) yacht to feel like "the Orient Express on the ocean."

"There's so much going on in there, but it all works. I had some of those velvet patterns rewoven for me on original art deco looms!" she told Steinway in an undated interview.

Pagano did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.

The yacht, which can accommodate 10 guests and nine crew members, has a home cinema and salon.

The yacht has four decks, according to Yacht Harbour. Its seven-meter beams give it the silhouette of a pirate ship. It's equipped with a Kaleidescape entertainment system.

A video tour of the yacht shows velvet decor and an antique-style wooden interior. The yacht's interior is made of vintage textiles and silk, according to a 2021 Facebook post by Pagano.

"I was graced to be working with Johnny, who has extraordinary knowledge and serious appreciation of historic decorative arts," she wrote in the post. The boat also has a 1930s-inspired dining hall.

The yacht has five large staterooms.

Three of the cabins have double beds, while two have twin beds. All of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, according to Charter Index. In a 2019 Facebook post, Pagano wrote  that the bedroom's decor featured items procured from around the world.

The yacht also has a helicopter pad, swimming pool, and Jacuzzi.

Depp chartered the yacht when he wasn't using it in 2013.

Depp reportedly charged charterers $130,000 a week during peak seasons and $110,000 during low seasons.

"Amphitrite" : A legendary schooner with a unique history

Stefan Schorr

 ·  29.05.2023

The 44 metre long three-masted schooner has served as a historical film set several times

When the two-masted racing schooner yacht "Amphitrite" was launched at the renowned Camper & Nicholsons shipyard in 1887, large wooden sailing ships without engine propulsion were no longer up to date. Nevertheless, Alexander Donald McGregor decided against a modern steel steam yacht with amenities such as central heating when he commissioned the shipyard in Gosport, England, to build it in 1884. He now received his 161-tonne masterpiece from designer Ben Nicholson Senior. The wooden schooner made of teak on oak, with a 33 metre high main mast and a canvas area of up to 1360 square metres, is his last, best and most beautiful sailing yacht design.

McGregor, born in 1845, wanted a slim, fast ship with a streamlined outer keel made of lead and also a swivelling centreboard to enable stiffer, more effective and more versatile sailing. However, the centreboard was removed again at the end of the 1889 season. As Camper & Nicholsons' construction plans were apparently destroyed and have not been found to this day, little is known about the use of the centreboard.

The requirements for the schooner were extensive

"The hull had to be able to carry the highest masts and the largest sail area. It therefore had to be built exceptionally strong in order to withstand the enormous pull of the shrouds and stays with the large sail area and strong winds," writes Günther Bendt in the book "Amphitrite - one of the oldest sailing yachts in the world". First published in 1990 by Ewald Kruse at Koehler Verlag, editor Theo-Peter Koesling was responsible for a significantly expanded new edition of the work in 2012. In it, the team of authors was able to expand the life story of the "Amphitrite" to include aspects of shipbuilding and regatta activity in the 1880s and 1890s.

The 44-metre schooner, which bears the name of one of the 50 daughters of the Greek god of the sea Nereus and the Okeanide Doris, was very active in regattas. Alexander Donald McGregor was accepted into the Royal Yacht Squadron in May 1888 and took part in regattas for the first time at the beginning of the season. In 1889, the "Amphitrite" achieved her first victory, which was followed by many more.

Adaptations for learning purposes on board

"The huge mainsail from back then would no longer be manageable with youth groups," says Ansgar Höffe, one of the ship's volunteer captains. With the current division of the sail plan into three masts, the "Amphi", as it is affectionately known by the regular crew, has a more manageable and, above all, uncomplicated rig. "After two or three days, the often inexperienced guards can normally tack and jibe on their own," explains the captain. "The only thing that requires a little practice is setting and recovering the large wide jib. However, it's worth it because of the benefits of the square sail in aft winds."

Ansgar Höffe, born in 1952, joined Clipper in 1976. The seafaring student stepped in at short notice as helmsman on the club ship "Seute Deern" when his lecturer was unable to attend. Since then, he has sailed on Clipper yachts every year. The navigator made his first professional voyage as a captain on a long voyage in 1985, became a Weser pilot in 1992 and retired at the end of 2017.

The "Clipper" association operates the schooner

He has been at sea as a captain with Clipper - Deutsches Jugendwerk since 1988, usually for two to four weeks a year. "Basically on each of the four association ships," says the 66-year-old. "Most rarely on the 'Jonny', most often on the 'Amphi'. I like her best because she's the oldest, most beautiful and most interesting ship to sail." Like many other regular crew members, Höffe is fascinated by the 132-year history of the "Amphitrite", which is one of the oldest sailing yachts still in operation in the world.

The Clipper Association is the 21st owner of the yacht, which was mostly called "Amphitrite", but also went by the names "Dolores", "Joyfarer", "Hinemoa" and "Amphitrite af Stockholm". First owner McGregor sold the ship in 1892 to multimillionaire Frederick Wills, who enjoyed the schooner's greatest regatta successes until it was sold on in 1899. The victory over the larger "Yampa", achieved at an average speed of just over 13 knots, made the schooner "Amphitrite" internationally famous. In 1897, she sailed from Dover to Helgoland as part of the Jubilee Cup regatta. The German Kaiser Wilhelm II had donated the cup to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria, his grandmother, on the throne. In Germany, the "Amphitrite" took part in the Kieler Woche.

The long career of the "Amphitrite"

For the next two decades, the "Amphitrite" was used as a cruising yacht and underwent numerous modifications. During the First World War, she remained undamaged under the ownership of William Henry Peech, underwent further modifications and was fitted with state-of-the-art technology: two powerful propulsion engines, a generator, an electric anchor winch and a steel deckhouse clad in wood behind the schooner mast. This was followed by further owners, newer engines and in 1924, after the last regatta, the saloon and the aft deckhouse.

To this day, various structural details are reminiscent of its former use as a luxury yacht. For example, the exquisite furnishings with the magnificent desk in the saloon. At Clipper, this is available to the entire crew; when the yacht was a private yacht, not even the captain had access here: "For the owner only!"

In 1942, the British Admiralty had the rigging removed so that the schooner could be used as a balloon barrage carrier against low-flying aircraft in Plymouth Sound during the Second World War. When Colonel W. R. Charter MC bought the yacht on 1 August 1947, she was in a pitiful condition. The leaking deck was particularly problematic. To save the Hulk from the ship graveyard, a "shipyard was needed to expertly caulk the deck, replace rotten wood and repair the worst damage", according to the book about the "Amphitrite".

The construction phase of the "Amphitrite"

In order to be able to place this order with the Camper & Nicholsons shipyard, the lead keel had to be sold and replaced with cheaper granite as ballast. When the "Amphitrite" arrived at the shipyard in 1950, 83-year-old designer Charles E. Nicholson (one of Ben Nicholson's three sons) could hardly believe "that 62 years earlier he had had the audacity to raise the sternpost of the yacht to 45 degrees when it was converted into a racing schooner".

His father modelled the schooner "Amphitrite" on cargo ships rather than sailing yachts. "The frames measure a good 15 by 15 centimetres, with two frames next to each other at a distance of only around five centimetres, forming a pair. The frames support planks that are just under eight centimetres thick on the outside and inside. Only the best and most durable materials were used in the construction of the "Amphitrite". Each of its more than 200 frames consists of just one piece, the curvature of which was not bent using steam, but has grown naturally. The frames as well as the mighty keel beams, stem and sternposts, the inner planks, the stringers and the deck beams are made of the best English oak. The strong outer planks were cut from the best Burma teak."

From August 1947 to November 1955, the Charter family used the yacht as a residential vessel without a rig. Now they moved back ashore and sold the ship. It was rigged as a three-masted gaff schooner in order to enter the charter business in the Mediterranean. However, the yacht had barely arrived there before it was up for sale again and changed hands several times at short intervals over the following years. In 1958, she was rigged as a barquentine.

The schooner comes to Germany at the end of the 1960s

In 1969, the "Amphi" comes into German hands. The Berlin meat trader Horst Krumke buys the schooner for 400,000 marks. He had previously founded Horst Film KG, which was commissioned by WDR to produce a sailing ship series about Count Luckner for television.

There are 39 episodes in three seasons, telling the fictional story of the "Sea Devil", who sails around the world on his ship "Niobe". Count Luckner is played by Heinz Weiß, who later becomes the captain of the ZDF dream ship. The "Amphitrite" is also used for the film "The Secret of the Mary Celeste", although it is a three-masted barquentine instead of a two-masted brigantine. Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff and Wera Frydtberg can be seen in the leading roles.

When some scenes have to be reshot for the Graf Luckner television series, Captain Günther Kleen is hired. He travels to La Napoule in France and has a special assignment from the young Clipper Association in his pocket: he is to check whether the "Amphitrite" is a suitable ship and whether the owner Horst Krumke would sell it at a reasonable price.

In November 1973, the crew comes on board for a transfer from the Mediterranean to Bremerhaven. It consists partly of Clipper people. The club only wanted to continue the sales negotiations after a dock inspection in Germany. The voyage becomes adventurous. As the wind picks up, the forepeak first breaks off under the bramrah and later collapses completely. In addition, the main peak halyard breaks, gets caught in the water in the starboard propeller of the engine and puts it out of action. Water penetrates below deck, causing a fire in the switchboard and knocking out a large part of the ship's electrical system. The jib boom also breaks.

Technical difficulties and remodelling

On 9 November, the battered "Amphitrite" moored in Menorca. It was not until the beginning of September 1974 that the voyage was resumed from Barcelona after a stay in the shipyard. On 20 September, the ship reaches Bremerhaven with the last drop of diesel. Once again, it takes on a lot of water, one of the two engines breaks down, an emergency sail is required and the electrical system is very unstable.

Nevertheless, Clipper buys the "Grand Old Lady" and the extensive refit is completed in March 1976. More berths were installed for use on youth cruises; in the foredeck there are 16 trainee berths in bunk beds. The cosy, elegant mess room is located aft, where even the generators are no longer a noise nuisance - the noisy auxiliary diesel engine was replaced with a fully soundproofed unit before the start of the 2019 season. On the narrow aft passageway to port is the helmsman's cabin with two berths and, behind the stylish staircase, the narrow captain's cabin, known as the "closet". To starboard, from fore to aft, there is a six-person cabin, the second helmsman's cabin and the rooms for the cook and engineer. In the stern is the sail hold, which also houses the refrigerator and freezer.

The two toilets on board are located in the forward superstructure on deck. In spring 2006, the "tandem loo" with two adjacent toilet bowls was replaced by two toilets with a partition between them. Both toilet rooms in the newly constructed deckhouse have an outside door, washbasin and shower. There are three further washrooms below deck.

Good wood needs good care

As a three-masted gaff schooner, the former regatta ship with a maximum of 450 square metres of sails on the wind (plus 90 square metres of wide jib) still has just under a third of its former surface area. The new schooner mast is made of steel instead of more expensive wood. "The crack in the wooden deck from the impact of the yard during the crossing was treated like a shrine for years," says Höffe. In the meantime, however, a new deck has been laid.

The season for the "Amphitrite" begins at the Hamburg harbour birthday. After numerous Baltic Sea cruises, the schooner is then often sailed to J. Ring-Andersen Skibsværft in Svendborg in mid-October to be refurbished over the winter. The "Amphi" has been in the hands of the Danish wooden boat specialists for around 30 years. They also produced the slimmer, wooden sterns in 1993. At that time, the mizzen mast was again fitted with a gaff sail instead of the tall sail that had been used in the meantime. This sail is still in use today.

The hull has had a natural wood look since 1981. The original elegant white and intermediate black cannot be painted with modern colours on the wood, which forms an oil film. The decision was therefore made in favour of the open-pored, easy-care wood protection with Benar oil. Only the gallion, stern ornament, nameplates and a wide white stripe above the water pass and above the wall rail are still coloured in red and white.

The strength of the "Amphitrite": its robustness

The robustness of the 132-year-old ship is still impressive. The only problematic areas are those where steel meets wood, i.e. the fittings. This is why the "Amphitrite" has been spared for a good ten years. Ansgar Höffe is one of only two clipper skippers to have sailed round Skagen on the "Grand Old Lady". This trip will not be repeated; the North Sea or even the Atlantic are now taboo.

A turning point: Alexander Donald McGregor had the "Amphitrite" built in 1887 so that he could sail even in the heaviest weather. "To do this, he had to be able to rely absolutely on his ship, and he could only do so if it was so reliable and robust due to its structural qualities that its owner did not have to fear costly and lengthy repairs," says the book about the yacht.

But today, the old lady needs to be spared a little. For a good reason: to be able to add many more years to her chequered history on the Elbe and the Baltic Sea.

A Closer Look at Johnny Depp's Yacht Amphitrite

What makes a yacht special? After all, there are a lot of different things about boats in general and yachts more specifically that make them all special in their own subtle way. That being said, the yacht named Amphritite, built especially for actor Johnny Depp, is special in a number of ways, not the least of which involves being built to his v ery own custom-made specifications .

The History

When you really stop and think about it, you know that this is going to be a very special yacht indeed. Even if you don't know a great deal about the actor Johnny Depp as a whole, you probably do know that he has a very unique style and that he brings that style to virtually everything he does. It simply wouldn't be in his character to design something that is run-of-the-mill or mainstream in any manner whatsoever. That fact alone tells you that you are going to be dealing with something that is very special, and not only special, but one of the most unique yachts that has ever been on the water. Before we go any further, it's worth pointing out that Depp himself no longer owns this yacht. It was part of the property that he liquidated as the result of his fairly recent divorce, selling it the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. As it turns out, she has also since sold the yacht, but whoever was lucky enough to purchase it undoubtedly has one of the most unique pieces of floating memorabilia that is ever likely to exist. Now that all of that is out of the way, it's time to get on to the specifics of the boat itself and what really makes it so special.

For starters, it's not designed like most yachts. If you look at it from the exterior, it's not as large as you might expect. In fact, there are a number of yachts that are actually much bigger. Aside from that fact, it's very unique in its appearance alone, even before you set sights on the inside. It's designed to look like an old steamer ship and it also incorporates some of the finest wood you could ever imagine, adding to its rather unique exterior appearance . If you think it's something to see from the outside, you should see what this yacht looks like on the inside. Just as you might expect if you're a Johnny Depp fan, you know that it has a very special look inside. In fact, it looks like something of a cross between a very regal mansion and The Addams Family home. This is not meant as a slight at all, but instead it's meant to serve as a testament to his ability to create something that is both different and personal, all while still adhering to a certain element of style. The boat is made of only the finest materials and it has no less than five separate decks, something that you're not likely to find on most other yachts of this size (156 feet, to be exact).

In truth, this is a yacht that has more decks and more rooms than boats that are much bigger, yet it manages to do this without feeling cramped in any manner. In addition to the unique style, you can also find a hand-made and highly polished chessboard, and if you explore the boat long enough, you will also find not just one or two, but five different staterooms. All of them have been designed to be both roomy and luxurious, meant to give guests an element of comfort. The idea from the very beginning was to give anyone who stayed in one of the rooms a chance to feel like they were at home. In no way would you ever feel like you were staying in some cramped boat. Instead, you feel like you are staying in one of the best luxury suites that you could ever imagine, something that is completely beyond anything you could think of, even in your wildest dreams.

Every Detail

As you might have come to expect by now, the equally unique and lovely aspects of this yacht do not end with the main quarters or even the staterooms. Every little detail has been considered here, from the gourmet kitchen to the seemingly never-ending number of full showers present onboard. The truth is, you would never even know that you’re dealing with anything on a boat, even a yacht. The thing about boats in general is that they are absolutely notorious for being rather uncomfortable if you stay on them for any length of time. For the most part, they don’t have full showers and there is never enough hot water. They can also be cramped and in some cases, they are just downright uncomfortable. That is certainly not the case when it comes to this boat. In fact, this just might be one of the most comfortable boats any person could ever be fortunate enough to find themselves on. It looks nothing like a mere boat (even a yacht) on the inside. It looks like a stately castle. If you want to take on the high seas and do it with the ultimate level of luxury, this is the way to go. You also won’t have to worry about running out of how water or having to take a three-minute shower in cramped quarters.

If you can imagine the style that Johnny Depp brings to virtually everything he does and then put it all into a boat, then you might start to get an idea about what this particular yacht is like. It is, in the purest sense of the word, luxury at the highest level. It’s filled with beautiful, hand-carved wood, real leather, and curtains made from the finest textiles in the entire world. It is something that will literally take your breath away. In fact, it’s likely to do this more than once. You’ll surely gasp when you see it from the outside, but you’ll really get swept away when you see the inside. All of that, coupled with the rich history of this yacht, definitely make it worth owning for anyone who has the means to purchase such a treasure.

J.K. Rowling Is Selling Her $20 Million Yacht (With Interiors By...Johnny Depp)

By Lilit Marcus

Image may contain Vehicle Transportation Boat and Yacht

The mega best-selling Harry Potter series didn't just make J.K. Rowling famous—it made her rich enough to afford her very own luxury yacht. Although Rowling's yacht doesn't really resemble the giant pirate ship that brought the Durmstrang students to Hogwarts ahead of the Tri-Wizard Cup, it was previously owned by Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp , which is...close enough. Rowling bought the vessel , which Depp had named Amphitrite as an homage to then-wife Amber Heard, about a year ago for £22 million ($29 million) but is reportedly selling it at a loss with an asking price of €17.8 million ($20 million).

The yacht, which can accommodate up to ten people, has some pretty eye-dropping features, including a plush master bedroom suite with a king size bed, a formal dining room on the deck, and a cozy salon with ten large windows perfect for watching the sun set over the ocean . There's also top-of-the-line tech equipment and audio-visual equipment in case you feel like having a daylong Potter movie marathon. The bottom line: This boat is way nicer than the ones that Hogwarts first-years take to get across the lake. And how was there not a character named Amphitrite in Hufflepuff House?

This isn't the first time that Rowling has parted with some of her assets. In 2012, she sold the eight-bedroom Victorian mansion in Edinburgh where she had written the last four Potter books, for $3.6 million. Although Rowling's net worth was once estimated to be worth $1 billion, she has given away so much of her money to charity that she dropped off of the Forbes "world billionaires" list the same year that she sold her home. Her favorite causes are kid-related, most notably her own organization, Lumos (named for the Potterverse "let there be light" spell ), whose goal is to take poor and disabled children out of institutions and reunite or place them with families.

So far, no bidders have stepped forward to buy the yacht. But think about it—wouldn't a yacht be such a great place for a Quidditch match? Or a Yule Ball? Sadly, the decor was designed by Depp, and Rowling didn't change it, so there aren't any talking paintings, nearly-headless ghosts, or Rooms of Requirement on board. You can probably bring your own butterbeer, though...

Vajoliroja is the stylish 156-ft. yacht which Johnny Depp bought in 2007 for undisclosed amount. Vajoliroja is a coined term after Va for Vanessa, Jo for Johnny, Li Ro for Depp’s daughter Lily Rose and Ja for Depp’s son Jack. However when Depp broke up with Vanessa Paradis and married Amber Heard, he eventually changed the name to Amphitrite, after the Greek sea goddess, which served as a wedding gift to Heard. Depp is known to be an avid fan of yacht in his private life and he has always been fond of life on water which he was finally to experience when he bought the yacht. He used the said yacht to cruise towards his private island located in the Bahamas named Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

It was reported that the author of series of seven fantasy novels Harry Potter, British author J.K. Rowling bought Depp’s Vajoliroja for $27 million in 2016. The author reportedly fell in love with the yacht after she took the vessel out on some family charter trip with her immediate family. Depp had the yacht completely refitted in 2008 to boast some attractive vintage lines for some 1930s tycoon vibe which was constructed by Turkey’s Turquoise Yachts in 2001. This was done to suit Depp’s requirement for the design that resembles some classic gentleman’s yacht.

The yacht was built by the Proteksan Turquoise in 2001 and since Depp had the yacht refitted in 2008, it has never been refitted again. Two prominent Turkish shipyards has joined forces in 1997 to eventually form the Proteksan Turquoise Yachts Inc. With their combined skill set and experiences, they were able to make some winning collaboration which produces some high quality vessels. Their shipyard facility is located in Istanbul, Turkey where the world class yachts are made. The luxury vessel which is now owned by J.K. Rowling had some sophisticated exterior design and engineering which was done by the Taka Yachts and the ones who designed the interiors is the LM Pagano Design. The classic style of the yacht gives off some vibe of some updated and state of the art type of technology which includes Zero Speed stabilizers, some entertainment system and some top of the line communication systems onboard.

The yacht also comes with some kayaks, board for windsurfing and dinghy which can be used by the guest of Amphitrite to enjoy some quality time while in the water. The yacht can accommodate guests up to 10 people n the five staterooms of the yacht which has room for crews that can fit up to nine people. The yacht can cruise comfortably at12 knots and can reach the maximum speed of 14 knots. The British author is reportedly using the yacht for holidays to some destinations with her family however the superyacht can be chartered for $90,000 per week which used to be $130,000 when Johnny Depp still owned the yacht.

The Amphitrite offers the guests some stylish accommodation with one master bedroom, two rooms with double beds and two rooms with twin beds. The yacht which was refitted to resemble some vintage bordello has a velvet finish overall and the color palette of the boat had some reds and golds. The Iconic Designer of exterior Tanju Kalaycioglu intended the yacht to be a creation of modern design with some look of the vintage steam yacht. This was done using some non functional masts which was designed with some overhanging fantail stern, a smokestack and square wooden cabin top deck.

The superyacht features some typical contemporary luxury yacht which can serve as a helicopter pad which also has swimming pool and Jacuzzi on board. There are also some waterskis, and snorkel gears on board that will surely provide enough entertainment for the water lovers. There is also some entertainment inside the yacht including a satellite TV, some iPod docking stations and game consoles which can be played such as Playstation 3, and Wii.

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp used to have a yacht transport him and his guests back and forth between the Bahamas and his private island , Little Hall’s Pond Cay. The Vajoliroja , which was purchased by Depp for $8 million and allegedly renamed Amphitrite , later sold in 2015 to an American businessman. It was then acquired by the Harry Potter series author J.K. Rowling .

Here’s how much Rowling paid for the yacht previously owned by Depp and some of the features it had while in her possession.

Rowling paid about $27 million for the yacht once owned by Depp

When it comes to money, Rowling clearly has plenty to spend. The billionaire author reportedly dished out around $27 million in 2015 for the yacht Depp had sold just a few months prior. About two years after purchasing the 156-foot-long watercraft, Rowling put it on the market for $19.2 million and allowed it to be chartered for about $130,000 per week, not including additional expenses, reports Variety .

Although the whereabouts of the yacht previously owned by Depp and Rowling is unknown, there is some speculation that it was listed for sale and purchased with the help of Curtis Stokes at Curtis Stokes & Associates. Simply put, Rowling no longer owns the luxury yacht.

A look inside the million-dollar yacht once owned by Depp and Rowling

While we can’t say for sure what the multimillion dollar yacht looks like today, we do know some of the features it had while in Rowling’s possession. The boat, which sits three decks high and accommodates 10 guests, featured the following, according to Variety :

  • “A bohemian-luxe main deck salon with rich wood paneling.”
  • Windows decorated with “swagged and tasseled drapery.”
  • “A state-of-the-art entertainment system.”
  • Four guest staterooms.
  • On-board Wi-Fi.
  • Recreational equipment, including “kayaks, snorkeling gear, windsurfing and wakeboards, and two tenders for water skiing and jaunts ashore.”
  • “Teak-trimmed glass doors.”

Joanne Rowling

British author and philanthopist

Net worth: $1 billion

J.K. Rowling rose from being a single mother living on welfare to a billionaire thanks to her fantasy series, Harry Potter. In 2020, Forbes named Rowling the second highest-paid author in the world. She now supports a large number of philanthropic causes.

Birthdate: July 31, 1965

Birthplace: Yate, Gloucestershire, England

Education: Graduated from the University of Exeter in 1987

Spouses: Jorge Arantes (1992–1993), David Murray (2001-present)

Kids: 3 (1 child with Arantes and 2 with Murray)

Residence: London, England, and Edinburgh and Aberfeldy, Scotland

What is J.K. Rowling’s net worth?

Although spending $19 million on a yacht sounds frivolous, it didn’t lighten Rowling’s wallet much. After watching her sales from the Harry Potter series grow, Rowling reportedly began earning about $50 million to $100 million a year, according to Celebrity Net Worth . Today, her net worth is estimated to be $1 billion, though the media outlet says the author denies being a billionaire.

Not only has the Harry Potter series generated significant sales (and profit for Rowling), but it gave rise to other money-making opportunities, including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, merchandise, and major motion pictures.

While a great deal of Rowling’s net worth can be attributed to the money she makes off of book royalties , she also made money from “movie advances, movie rights, merchandise, and more,” allowing her to spend freely on yachts and make large charitable donations.

J.K. Rowling’ Amphitrite Yacht is up For Grabs After She bought it a Year Ago From Johnny Depp!

  • Luxury Yachts & Boats

Here is everything you need to know about J.K. Rowling’ Amphitrite Yacht before she sells it to another human for $19.2 million!

Yachts, who doesn’t love them? Almost all the celebrities and rich people own a yacht, turns out that J.K. Rowling is selling her luxury yacht, perhaps she wants to buy another

The author, who has a net worth of $1.05 billion, is selling her yacht for $19.2 million, less that she bought it for just a year ago.

Called Amphitrite, the luxurious yacht, which is 47 meters long, is believed to have cost around $30 million when the writer bought it for actor Johnny Depp , who has a net worth of $48 million.

The yacht is now listed for sale around $19 million with Curtis Stokes and Associates. Depp had the yacht refitted with new lighting and wall hangings, since the last time he bought it.

Also, Depp was the one who renamed the vessel twice, firstly Vajoliroja, as a tribute to the names of his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis, his own name and those of his children Lily Rose and Jack.

Secondly, he decided to rename it after he married Amber Heard, as a gesture of love, with the yacht becoming Amphitritre, a Greek sea goddess and wife of Poseidon.

Built in 2001 in Turkey, the vessel can accommodate 10 guests. Rowling is said to have been in love with the yacht when the author and her family stayed on it on a charter trip.

Described on the yacht brokerage website as “a modern motoryacht with classic styling”, she comes with five rooms and exterior dining, entertaining and relaxation spaces.

Also on the website, an interested customer could see the specs of each room, including the salon, which offers “two separate seating areas with sofas, end tables and coffee tables port aft and forward, 2 lounge chairs and a glass storage and wine bar cabinet to starboard, a beautiful skylight above, 10 large windows on each side with curtains and shades, carpet and double teak and glass doors to the aft deck.”

Asked about the yacht sale, a spokesman for Rowling said they would not comment on private matters.

Would you buy the yacht that was owned by two famous people?

The design and performance of Hysucats make them ideally suited for sea tow 24/7 marine services, which include salvage, vessel recovery, environmental cleanup, and catastrophe response. Built in centre console, fast rib, water transport and military models, the Hysucat offers the best features of a monohull and a catamaran combined. At high speed, the boat rises out of the water, yet is extremely stable. The hysucat is more efficient and can run with smaller engines than an equivalent-sized monohull.

As well, the technology at the core of the Hysucat brand also enables safe, high-speed performance in excess of 70 knots. These boats are ideal for the range of sea tow assistance, which can exceed 50 miles offshore and farther. Hysucats load-carrying capacity makes its models perfect for water transport, taxi operations, sea rescue, and towing operations.

  • Less Power Required - Improved Consumption - Longer Range
  • Stable, Smooth and Dry Operation in Rough Water Conditions

  • Low Hull Resistance for Improved Electric Propulsion Performance

The Hysucat 28 RIB offers key benefits and comforts that make it the perfect choice for clients in government/military markets.

The 28 RIB is designed with a high bow and large sponsons for dry and safe operations, particularly in heavy sea conditions. All-round safety rails are an option and the large console can accommodate a dry storage or toilet. The deck area is designed to be modular with a variety of layout options including the mounting of weapons, specialised shock absorbing seats or could provide seating for up to 14 people. Pontoons could also be filled with special foam to provide bullet proof areas.

Operational benefits include comfortable high speed rough water operations, reduced wake, reduced fuel consumption and increased speed. The Hysucat 28 RIB has a dry weight of 3,300 lbs (1.5 tons), fuel capacity of 60 gallons (227 litres) and can be powered by single or twin engines from 90 to 300 hp. Depending on the engine option and propellers this gives a cruise speed of 30 mph (26-35 knots) and maximum speed of over 80 mph (70 knots).

About Hysucat

The hysucat design used in the center console, fast ribs and water transport boats offers the best features of a monohull and a catamaran combined. although the boat behaves very much like a monohull, in turns it is running on an air cushion caused by air tunnels. at high speed, the boat rises out of the water and runs mainly on the center hull. the side hulls stabilize the boat. this reduces the wetted area on the hull, which in turn makes the craft more efficient, faster and allows the boat to run with smaller engines than an equivalent-sized monohull.

The basic principle behind the hysucat is an effective hydrofoil system in the tunnel between two demi-hulls. this consists of a main wing located in front of the length emphasis in keel height, supported by two smaller wings in the tunnel at the rear of the hull, as shown in the diagram.

During voyage, the wings produce dynamic lift forces that partly lift the catamaran out of the water. the two flotation chambers ride lower in the water than monohulls and produce less resistance. during voyage, the hulls take over the lateral stability production and secure the course stability.

Due to its design, hysucat vessels require smaller drive engines and they are much more economical in consumption, even in comparison to deep v flyboats. the wing system ensures a strong absorption of vertical and pitch movements. the result is a smooth ride, even in rough waters. such performance in rough seas is unique and unparalleled. a constant and gentle sliding and dipping in the waves is guaranteed. the hull remains stable during the entire voyage and shows no signs of hard impact in waves. longer distances, even in rough waters, can be traveled without any major physical fatigue symptoms.

What further makes the hysucat brand unique is its efficiency; the hull design has been tested and found to be up to 40 percent more efficient than conventional hulls. effectively what the hull achieves is a smoother, faster, more economical boat. the centrally mounted hydrofoils lift the hull out of the water at planing speed, reducing the wetted-surface of the hull. this creates significantly less friction and performance is improved. the power required to plane the craft can be reduced and the savings translate directly into fuel savings. engine life is also improved as it no longer has to work at high revs. the end result is a much softer, smoother ride than via a conventional hull and the ability to achieve high speeds with rapid performance that can be seen even with relatively small horsepower engines.

  • Hydrofoil advantages
  • Higher top speed
  • Improved sea keeping in rough seas
  • Reduced fuel consumption
  • Increased range due to lower fuel consumption
  • Wave dampening
  • Improved load
