What is a Gulet?

A Gulet is a traditional Turkish wooden sailing yacht that is designed explicitly for cruising along the beautiful Turkish coast. These vessels are known for their elegant design, spacious interiors, and comfortable accommodations. Gulets typically range in size from 15 to 40 meters and can accommodate anywhere from 6 to 20 passengers.

Gulets are built with a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern amenities, offering a perfect blend of authenticity and comfort. Each Gulet is unique in terms of design and layout. Still, they generally feature cosy cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious deck for sunbathing and dining, and a fully equipped kitchen where the onboard chef prepares delicious meals.

The beauty of a gulet lies in its ability to provide an intimate and personalized cruising experience. Unlike larger cruise ships, gulets can access smaller and more secluded bays and coves, allowing passengers to explore hidden gems inaccessible to other vessels. With their friendly and experienced crew, gulets offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making you feel at home throughout your journey.

Tips for a memorable Gulet cruise experience

To make the most of your gulet cruise experience, here are some tips to keep in mind:

1. Pack wisely: Pack light and bring comfortable clothing, swimwear, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Remember to bring a beach towel and any personal items you may need.

2. Stay hydrated: It’s important to stay hydrated during your cruise, especially when spending time under the sun. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it regularly to ensure you stay hydrated throughout your journey.

3. Be prepared for the weather: The weather in Turkey can vary depending on the season. Check the forecast before your trip and pack accordingly. Bring a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings and a waterproof jacket in case of rain.

4. Bring cash: While most Gulet cruises include meals and some activities, it’s a good idea to bring some cash for additional expenses, such as drinks, souvenirs, and tips for the crew.

5. Disconnect and enjoy: Take this opportunity to disconnect from the digital world and fully immerse yourself in the experience. Put your phone away, enjoy the stunning views, and engage with your fellow passengers and crew members. This is your chance to relax and unwind truly.

By following these tips, you’ll ensure that your gulet cruise experience is memorable and enjoyable. Embrace the unique atmosphere, soak up the beauty of the Turkish coast, and create lasting memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.

"The Semerciouglu4 is stunning. I had seen the online video but pictures and videos cannot do it justice. This boat is huge but still beautiful and elegant. The deck spaces are very big and the cabins to, with excellent on-suite facilities. Showers great. Semercioglu is the family name of Mehmet, the owner who is the Captain. He and his SIC, Serkan, are very proud of their boat and rightly so. They and the rest of the crew made me feel most welcome and at home. I look forward to meeting them again. Food onboard was lovely, even though this was the first week working on a boat for otherwise experienced chef, Ahmet. Mehmet's daughter, Eda, was charming. I arrived at Fethiye with time to look at all the other Gulets there and at the time did not see one to match it. Highly recommended it".(I have never bothered writing a review before but felt this deserved it)"

Mr Fred Shiress - 12th May 2018

"Firstly I want to thank Diamond Sky Holidays for the smooth running of the trip, everything was booked and worked perfectly on time. We had an amazing time on the boat, I have never been so relaxed on holiday from the not wearing any shoes all week to the comfort of the rooms saying nothing of the food that was cooked by a very special chef"

Gulet cruise introduction.

A gulet cruise from either Bodrum or Marmaris is a great combination of sightseeing, swimming and, of course, cruising along one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful coastlines. You’ll see picturesque coves and magnificent scenery and enjoy snorkelling, sunbathing and complete relaxation. Simple pleasures, no stress or strain and, above all, a wonderful feeling of getting away from it all. You can also combine a week’s gulet cruise with a week at one of JetSun’s hotels.

Why Choose a Gulet Cruise?

The ultimate ‘get-away-from-it-all’ holiday, a gulet cruise is a great way to explore Turkey’s fabulous, Mediterranean coastline and enjoy the freedom and total relaxation which only an informal cruise can offer. As the gulets are small compared with large, ocean-going cruise ships, it’s the perfect holiday to make friends and enjoy the pleasures which only a small cruiser can offer.

Best Time to Travel

Any time between May and October is a good time to take a gulet cruise although in early and late season there are fewer cruises taking place so the bays are more deserted, the ancient sites less crowded and, of course, it’s not as hot as July or August. Days are longer in May and June and the sea is warmer in September and October.

The crew comprises the captain and, usually, a cook and a deckhand. There are up to 8 small but comfortable double cabins, all with private sh/wc. There’s a sunbathing area with sun mattresses, a saloon / bar, a shaded afterdeck for meals and drinks, a music system, a galley, snorkels & flippers and a tender-boat. Please note on air conditioned Gulets the  air conditioning operates at certain times only.

The Itinerary (from Bodrum or Marmaris)

There is no fixed itinerary and no two days are the same but a typical day will start with breakfast followed by a couple of hours’ cruising before dropping anchor in a bay for swimming, snorkelling and lunch. In the afternoon you’ll cruise again for a couple of hours and then stay the night either in a quiet bay or close to a harbour with, perhaps, the opportunity of going ashore. The cruise itinerary is always dependent on weather and operational conditions and is always subject to the captain’s approval.

Eating & Drinking

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price and all meals are taken on the shaded afterdeck. It’s simple but delicious cuisine and, unsurprisingly, always tastes better in the open air. Drinks are not included but can be purchased on board (there’s usually a ‘slate’ system whereby you pay for all drinks at the end of the cruise).

Shore excursions are organised by the captain and crew and are payable locally. They might include a visit to an ancient site or maybe a village to see some typical local life or even a trip to a larger town or resort for some retail therapy. Evening BBQs are also very popular

Night Life & Shopping

The only chance there is to enjoy a little nightlife will be at the beginning or end of the Gulet Cruise in either Bodrum or Marmaris. The same will apply to shopping although there is sometimes the opportunity to visit a small town during the cruise which may have a few shops or a market to browse around.

Blue Cruises Turkey Gulet Holidays Croatia

Gulet holidays have become more popular than ever before. The reason behind that apart from the obvious attraction that the sea has had on us humans since time began and the fact that every day is a new adventure in a new and stunning location, all of those things and there is also the chance of meeting new like-minded people. Traditionally gulets were first used as fishing and diving vessels but as tourism has exploded, gulets have come into their own and are the perfect boats to spend your days sailing the calming seas of the Mediterranean and beyond. With over 20 years of experience, Farout quickly came to realize that although many of our cruises start and end in Turkey that the beauty just beyond was too stunning to ignore, and although a relatively new travel destination for many Croatia was not to be missed out on and that our previous customers who had already enjoyed the opportunity to Sail Turkey were also asking to cruise with us further afield.

Sail Croatia Split to Split Cruise

Sail croatia split return cruise, sail croatia dubrovnik to split, sail croatia split to dubrovnik.

Croatia’s geographic location makes it an ideal getaway spot for any cruise the season is long and warm, beginning in May and continuing right through the end of October, located across the narrow Adriatic waters from Italy, the whole region is dotted with hundreds of islands each one with its own culture and history, there are so many islands of all sizes covering this part of the Aegean sea that they have been lovingly named the Dalmatian islands. The wonderful destinations of Croatia may be best known as of late mainly because they are the breathtaking backdrop to the world-famous drama series ‘Game Of Thrones’ the rugged beauty surrounds you from the city of Dubrovnik surrounded by high and impressive ancient stone walls a fort at the water's edge, protecting the city since the 16th century, to the island of Hvar covered with lavender fields the main city enclosed in a fortified 13th-century fortress and standing in the center of the city square a beautiful mighty cathedral. Sailing onwards you will find yourself south of Hvar at the undeniably beautiful island of Korcula also known as little Dubrovnik the island is a mix of highly dense forest to the medieval harbour towns full of homes and palaces of days gone by. You will also see the strange cone-shaped burial mounds of the Illyrian tribes that have rested here since the 10th century. Whilst in Croatia on your sailing yacht charter , you must cruise to Split it’s the second-largest city after Dubrovnik and amazing in its own right a sprawling city that is perched on the Adriatic edge where you can watch life go by at one of the many cafes, the city also has many beaches making this a city where you can get the most out of your time there. The gullet cruise will also stop at the island of Mljet surrounded by some of the lightest shade of turquoise waters, the island has many small secluded bays providing the perfect place to dive in. The port town of Makarska is another location that you do not want to miss surrounded by mountains and scattered with some of the most delightful beaches of the region, here the ferries come in and out from the many nearby islands. If you have never thought about visiting Croatia before, we highly recommend that you put this little-known tourist hotspot on your list of places to see, and one of the best ways to see it all is a gullet holiday where every day you will sail to a new and amazing location full of history warm Adriatic waters and a scenic backdrop that you see in the movies.

Warning to Brits booking all inclusive holidays to Spain amid drink limit rules

The best part of an all inclusive holiday is often the unlimited food and drink that comes with it.

But some popular destinations are changing that , including parts of Spain where ‘free’ drinks have been capped under new rules.

Tourists will no longer be able to have their fill of poolside cocktails at a number of all inclusive hotels, in a move designed to curb antisocial behaviour .

Alcoholic drinks will be limited to six per person per day as part of their package – three with lunch and three at dinner.

And while this cap isn’t in place throughout Spain, British holidaymakers have been warned to check ahead before booking at the Balearic Island resorts where it is being enforced.

These all inclusive drinks caps have been introduced in El Arenal, Playa de Palma and Magaluf in Majorca, and San Antonio in Ibiza: renowned ‘party areas’ frequented by young visitors.

You are able to pay extra for additional drinks at hotels in these locations, but they need to be purchased separately and won’t come with the all inclusive deal.

As part of the bid to discourage excessive drinking among visitors, you’ll also find reduced ‘happy hour’ slots as well as fewer party boats and bar crawls.

It’s not the only place where revellers will face restrictions either. In Alicante, pubs and restaurants have been ordered to close their terraces at midnight for nine months of the year.

So if you are visiting the Costa Blanca favourite, try to do so within a certain period to make the most of your stay.

Henry Sunley, managing director at Travel Republic , explains: ‘If you plan on visiting between June 15 and September 30, curfews are extended to 1am between Sunday and Thursday and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

‘This makes all-inclusive holidays ever more appealing to holidaymakers as they don’t have to venture outside of their hotel for food, drinks or entertainment.’

If you’re heading to Ibiza or Majorca, however, do your homework on where you’re staying before booking to avoid disappointment.

Greek Islands

The Greek Islands offer history, culture, sun and sea. Enjoy the many pleasures an island-hopping gulet cruise has to offer. Go back through time on the ancient island of Rhodes; see the charming lanes of Symi; swim the azure waters of Kos; see the world-famous sunset in Santoríni; or enjoy the sparkling nightlife of Mýkonos. Greek gulet cruise holidays take place in the Dodecanese (Rhodes, Symi, Kos, etc), the Cyclades (Santorini, Mykonos, etc) and the Ionian islands (Corfu, Paxos, etc).

Due to the proximity of many islands to the Turkish mainland, Greek island hopping holidays can depart from either the Greek Islands or Turkish harbours and usually take place on Turkish gulets.
