Chattanooga is a city that prides itself on its river. Only a short trip from downtown, the Tennessee River Gorge is one of the most biologically diverse areas of the country. Over 200 bird species call the gorge home, nesting in the 27,000 acres of virtually undisturbed forest. And one of the best ways to see this wonder of nature is by riverboat. The staff was not great with one exception, one guys runs around like crazy because no one else is doing anything but stirring at there phone. The live band wasn't bad. Cost an extra (which i bought) $100 per couple to get your food first and hot and to get a windows seat, you also get some meat and chesses when you first sit down and a bottle of $12 wine. I did a similar curse in Knoxville that blows this out of the water and is cheaper. Read more Written February 20, 2024

It did not. We received a charcuterie board, which I did enjoy, and 2 bottles of inexpensive champagne. On a daily basis, a dinner cruise costs $59/person. • PaulR9T 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Less than Gold I wanted to have a special night for my second anniversary. I took my wife on a trip to Chattanooga. The River Boat was our last stop of the day. I ordered the gold package with wine charcuterie and souvenir glasses. Our wine wasn't brought to our table. The hostess, as she was telling us it was our turn at the buffet, recommended that we go to the bar and ask for it. I figured that was a job for the staff not the customer. But not wanting to have my wife wait I went to the bar to ask about our wine. I was required to produce a form that should have been on the table we were seated at. I didn't have the form nor was it on the table. The cruise director said just give it to them, which kind of made me feel like they thought I was trying to cheat them. I took our wine and glasses back to the table. Never received a charcuterie tray, although after an hour or so I did notice an empty table with wine glasses and charcuterie sitting at it. Most likely we were seated at the wrong table, or possibly the Gold was left at the wrong table. The numbers on neighbors tickets seemed to indicate we were in the assigned seat. The band played well, the cruise was as expected. My wife had bigger smiles from antiquing on the way to the boat. Read more Written December 26, 2023

Which is part of the disappointment - billed as a Christmas cruise. A duo tried but not too much Christmas music. Very disorganized- from the late loading. (More time to buy “stuff” in the gift shop?) continued - the no organization - to the purchasing of drinks. One bar tender for lots of folks. Poor Christmas decorations. All above pales when co,pared to a very bad meal. Maybe was roast beef. Couldn’t cut it more less eat it. Stringy green beans. Cold mashed potatoes - warmth would not have helped. Skimpy salad. No choice on dessert - was at table already. Take it or leave it! As was water. No choice of tea, soda or coffee. That we were made aware of! Went and got our own - tea at least. Sweet only! I’ll stop. Just was not a good experience and especially when compared to several others we had taken in other cities. Sorry but we don’t recommend! Read more Written December 23, 2023

Another interesting landmark we’ll see on our boat tours is Maclellan Island, a beautiful nature reserve in the heart of the Tennessee River. This protected wildlife habitat offers a peaceful escape, and depending on the boat tour, we might even have a chance to disembark and explore the island.

Some Chattanooga boat tours, like the River Gorge Explorer, take us through the Scenic Tennessee River Gorge, allowing us to enjoy the natural beauty of the “Heart of the Tennessee River Gorge.”

As we continue along the Tennessee River, we’ll pass by historic landmarks such as the Cherry Mansion and Moccasin Bend, both of which carry rich history and stories.

Unforgettable views.

One of the reasons we highly recommend taking a boat tour in Chattanooga is because of the unforgettable views it offers. These tours provide us with spectacular views of downtown Chattanooga as we sail down the Tennessee River. We’ll get the chance to see iconic landmarks and stunning natural scenery that are best admired from the water. The city’s skyline is sure to create memorable photo opportunities that we’ll cherish for years to come.

Educational Experience

Besides offering breathtaking views, Chattanooga boat tours also provide us with an educational experience. As we cruise down the river, we’ll learn about the history of the area, the significance of the river to the city’s development, and important geologic features such as the Tennessee Riverpark. This interactive learning experience not only enriches our understanding of the region but also makes us appreciate the importance of preserving these natural and historical sites.

Another benefit of taking a boat tour in Chattanooga is the relaxation and stress relief it offers. Being out on the water, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the soothing sounds of the river, allows us to temporarily forget our worries and enjoy the moment. Boat tours like the Southern Belle Riverboat’s Sunset Cruise invite us to kick back, sip a glass of wine, and unwind as we watch the sun set over the Tennessee River.

Moreover, Chattanooga boat tours also give us access to various outdoor activities. During our sightseeing tour, we can explore the 150-acre Tennessee Riverpark, indulge in a picnic, or simply stroll along the waterfront to breathe in the fresh air and take in the natural beauty.

In conclusion, taking a boat tour in Chattanooga offers us an experience that blends unforgettable views, educational insights, and opportunities for relaxation and stress relief. Planning Tips for Your Boat Tour

Research and select the right tour.

When planning a boat tour in Chattanooga, it’s essential for us to research different options and choose the most suitable one. Several tour companies and cruising options are available, such as the Southern Belle Riverboat for picturesque sightseeing cruises and Chattanooga Boat Charters for customizable experiences. We should look up the reviews and decide which tour aligns best with our interests and preferences.

Pack Essential Items

To ensure we have an enjoyable and comfortable boat tour, let’s make sure we pack the right essentials. Here’s a list of items we recommend bringing along:

  • Sunscreen to protect from sunburn
  • Sunglasses and a hat for added sun protection
  • Comfortable clothing and footwear
  • A water bottle to stay hydrated
  • A lightweight jacket or sweater for cooler weather
  • A camera or smartphone for capturing memories

Consider Timing and Weather Conditions

Before booking our tour, it’s crucial to consider the timing and weather conditions to maximize our experience on the water. Checking the weather forecast will help us choose an ideal day for a boat tour. When scheduling our tour, we should opt for a time of day that provides the best views, which might be early morning or late afternoon.

Additionally, we should be aware of the tour duration, which can range from brief 1.5-hour excursions like the Southern Belle’s sightseeing cruises to longer journeys up the Tennessee River Gorge, like a full day whitewater rafting trip up the Ocoee.

Remembering these planning tips will help ensure our Chattanooga boat tour is enjoyable and memorable, while making the most of the beautiful scenery and experiences the city has to offer.

Final Thoughts on Chattanooga Boat Tours

We had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful Chattanooga area through its various boat tours and river cruises. The Tennessee River offers stunning views, and there’s no better way to experience it than by boat.

Here are some additional things to consider when planning your Chattanooga boat tour experience:

  • Tour duration: Most tours last between 1.5 to 2 hours, with some private excursions offering 6-hour trips.
  • Price range: Prices can vary widely, from $30.99 for sightseeing cruises to more expensive private charters.
  • Age restrictions: Some tours may have minimum age requirements or recommend certain ages for the best experience. Be sure to check before booking.

In short, exploring Chattanooga’s waterways through its boat tours has been an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend adding one of these river cruises or boat tours to your itinerary when visiting the Scenic City.
