- Sleeping on a Boat: The Ultimate Overnight Boating Guide
- Sailing Hub
- Sailing Tips
Have you ever been sleeping on a boat before? And we don't mean just a casual nap in the sun. When you charter a yacht for your holiday getaway, you can skip the overcrowded and overpriced hotels by spending the night aboard your very own home-at-sea.
Not sure if spending the night on a boat is really your style? When you book a private yacht charter, there are enough different choices to suit everyone's unique style of travel—from elegant, five-star accommodations to casual, do-it-yourself adventure.
Get ready for sleeping on a yacht rental overnight with our Ultimate Overnight Boating Guide:
Why sleep aboard?
How to sleep on a boat, what our overnight yacht rentals can offer you.
If it's your first time considering sleeping on a boat overnight, then you might be wary of getting started. We get it. But whether you're looking for a boat for camping or a boat for luxuriating between beach trips, the best overnight accommodations is your yacht. Here's why:
Get an early start to your day
If you're spending the night in a hotel, then setting sail early in the morning means you have to hit the ground running. You've got to wake up early enough to assemble your gear at the hotel and spend time physically getting to the docks—all before the rest of the crowds do.
But when you spend the night aboard your boat, you're ready to go from the moment you get out of bed. This spells less time wasted trying to get to your destination and more time on the open water enjoying your holiday.
Enjoy more amenities at a cheaper price
Sleeping on a boat overnight doesn’t just save you time—it also saves you money! After all, you're already chartering a boat for your holiday, so why add additional hotel (and travel) fees to the mix?
And while spending the night aboard your yacht is cheaper than staying in a hotel, it can actually be more luxurious. Why shell out the cash for a hotel room with a waterfront view when you can enjoy your own on-the-water view from your private yacht charter?
Settle in with all your luggage
With views that can't be beat and a nonexistent hotel bill, sleeping on a yacht rental overnight is one of the biggest insider tips from pro-travelers—and at the end of the day, it’s just more comfortable, too.
As you sail from one hot locale to the next, why would you want to keep unpacking and packing your bags at every different hotel you have to check into? When you decide to sleep on your yacht overnight, you can fully settle in for your holiday. This means you won't have to worry about forgetting anything in hotels, and you won't have to waste time going back and forth between hotels and your yacht. Instead, you can truly get comfortable and make your cabin your cozy home-away-from-home for your holiday.
Escape loud neighbors and street noise
Perhaps the number one reason for sleeping on a boat during your holiday is to skip out on the crowds, the loud neighbors, and the street noise.
When you charter your own yacht, you can truly enjoy a tranquil getaway, where the gentle sound of the waves can lull you to sleep at night—not your annoying neighbors in the hotel who won’t stop partying. For a relaxing holiday that's peaceful and calm, sleeping aboard your boat can't be beat.
Sold on spending the night sleeping on your yacht rental? Get ready for a good night's sleep with our boat camping tips:
Make sure you're well anchored
It might go without saying, but if you're going to be sleeping on a boat overnight, make sure that you're well anchored before you're ready to get under the covers, so you don't drift during the night. (No matter how adventurous you are, no one wants to wake up the next morning somewhere unknown out at sea!)
Don't forget extra layers
Even if you're sailing in a warm climate, like the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, it's a good idea to bring some extra layers with you. At night, your body temperature will naturally drop, which can make you feel cold while sleeping, so make sure you pack an extra sweater and socks to stay cozy at night.
If it's your first time sleeping on a boat, you may be feeling a little uneasy, as it's a new and unusual experience. Try to remember that sleeping on a boat is just like sleeping anywhere else. It also helps to maintain your normal pre-sleep routine (like having a cup of tea, reading, etc.), so your body knows it's time to get to sleep.
We also recommend bringing earplugs in case the splashing water or creakings from the boat distract you at night.
At Yacht4less, we know not everyone's idea of a dream holiday is the same, which is why we offer a host of different yachts for charter, so you can find the perfect match for your tip. Here's what some of our yacht rentals can offer you:
Fully-crewed yacht
Looking for five-star luxury? We deliver with a fully-crewed yacht .
This kind of charter comes staffed with a captain, hostess, and private chef. Imagine waking up after spending the night on your boat with a gourmet breakfast prepared to your liking by a private chef. No need to go to a restaurant—instead, enjoy your custom meal on the deck of your private boat with the view of the sunrise.
By the cabin
Want the feel of that five-star luxury with a smaller price tag? We have options. Charter a yacht by the cabin .
With a by-the-cabin yacht charter, you're booking a cabin aboard a yacht, much like booking a room in a hotel or on a cruise ship. You'll still enjoy a private room and bathroom, and you'll have free range of the common spaces, such as the kitchen, living room, and deck. This is also a great choice for those who like the more social atmosphere of a hotel.
Are you really looking for a boat for camping? It's time to go bareboat !
Bareboat is for those who want to be the captain of their own vessel, chartering a fully-equipped yacht to sail without the assistance of a skipper. If you're an experienced sailor, this is a great way to enjoy maximum freedom and privacy while you spend the night aboard a private yacht.
Need something a little more stripped down, but don't know how to sail? Choose a skippered yacht charter .
With a skippered yacht, you can enjoy sailing and sleeping aboard a boat stress-free with a private skipper who's at the helm to take care of the legwork. An added bonus is that you can stay at unique anchorages and bays that you wouldn't have access to on a bareboat, as they're only open to a crew with expertise.
Sleeping on a yacht rental overnight takes a sailing holiday to the next level.

If you are going to the Bahamas you may want to stop at Freeport in Grand Bahama and Shop at Port Lucaya Marketplace! This is a shopper's paradise with an open-air facility and white sandy beaches within walking distance for everyone to enjoy.
What are the most popular brands for a yacht charter?
Nautal´s boat owners offer a range of different yacht brands and models to rent. The three well-known yacht brands Nautal offers are Jeanneau, Beneteau, and Bavaria. Moreover, other brands include Silverton, Mangusta, Pershing, Baglietto, and more!
It is important to note however that most yachts are chosen for their quality and high spec conditions which make them so unique.
What should I consider when chartering a yacht?
You should first consider how long you want to charter a yacht for, the size, and what activities you and your group may enjoy doing. When renting a boat of this type, the size of the yacht is very important since this will determine how long the yacht charter can be. Most 25-meter (82 ft) yachts are chartered on a weekly basis. Shorter private charters are only available in last-minute bookings, or for smaller yachts that do offer daily charter rates. You can also charter yachts with a captain and crew, who take care of every detail to make your holiday an unforgettable experience. Crewed charter yachts allow you and your family or friends to fully enjoy and relax with your dream boat vacation. Check with the owner if the captain and crew are included in the yacht charter prices!
How much does a yacht rental cost?
Yacht rental prices vary depending on your luxury yacht charter choice. Features that make the price vary are the season, size of the yacht, manufacturer, and more! A yacht charter in the low season can cost anywhere from $1,500 a day and $10,000 per week. In high season yacht rental costs from $1,800 per day and $12,487 per week. The price will increase the more luxurious and extravagant you choose your yacht rental to be. For example, megayachts over 165 ft can cost $500,000 or more per week. A yacht charter cost can also have additional and inclusive rates. Depending on the owner´s boat rental offer, the skipper and crew can be included or be an additional cost. Just imagine your luxury yacht charter with delicious food and drinks for your whole family to enjoy. Each charter experience is different so speak to the owner of the boat for more information on what is included in the price and what type of yacht you are looking for.
Where to rent a yacht?
Nautal charters yachts all around the world with many options available on the Amalfi Coast, Mykonos , Costa Azul, Porto Cervo, and beautiful Ibiza . You can also charter a yacht in the Caribbean, Croatia , or Greece . You can spend your vacation on a yacht, celebrate your birthday, organize a party, and more! Check out our different yacht charter destinations!
What does a yacht charter rate include and what additional fees can I expect to pay?
For one-week megayacht charters, the price is usually given without Taxes. Taxes range significantly by destination and will vary if more than one country is visited. You will also need to pay for an estimated running of expenses paid by an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA. Expenses include fuel (the largest cost in yacht rentals), food and beverages, port fees, etc. APA typically accounts for between 25% and 35% of the charter price, and with it, the captain will pay all holiday expenses. Whatever is not used will be returned to the customer after the charter. Finally, you will need to consider the tip for the crew, which is a percentage of the rental price, approximately 10% in Europe and 15% in the US. This is highly recommended since a professional and trained crew has a direct impact on the success of the holidays.
Do I need a license to charter a yacht?
If you want to be the one who sails the yacht, you will need the Yachtmaster Ocean license or the equivalent, depending on the country. However, if you want to sail in luxury and comfort you can charter the yacht with a captain and crew. On the Nautal platform, yachts over 50 ft are chartered with a captain, except for some yacht charters located in Croatia. This is because the yachts are very expensive and the risk of damage for the owner is very high. Also during the high season, the yacht owners often cannot get them repaired easily without an advanced booking.

Great group of people to sail with. The sea conditions were a bit more choppy than expected but most of the guests loved every wet minute. Hope we meet up again sometime in the future. Thank you Bella.
Very friendly sailor with ample knowledge and skills to enjoy a day sailing with. Sebastien was very helpful on the boat and keen to gain more experience. Definitely recommend this guy!
We are very happy the guests liked the trip. Fantastic guys, enjoyed every moment though the weather was tricky with waves. We would highly recommend them and hope to see again sometime! 🤗
It has been a big pleassure to sail with Paul, his family and friends along the coast of Lanzarote in a quite demanding day because of the strong wind conditions. Always wellcome on board. Wish you all the best!
Very Good trip, Vincent, the owner take care about his sailing boat and you can feel that. For a 16 years old boat is the NO MAD in a really good condition. Technical equipment is perfect. Thx 🙏
Wonderful family of sailors! Very friendly, with good knowledge of sailing and happy to assist on the boat. Definitely recommend for hiring a boat. You are always welcome onboard 🤗
Our week at sea with David was spectacular. There were two couples that shared the boat with David and two crew. From the moment we stepped on the boat we felt welcomed. The places David chose to take us were epic. We asked for quiet beaches and hidden places and David knew them all. His relationship with the locals on the islands brought an intimacy we didn’t expect . It was my husband’s birthday and a local restaurant even baked him a cake. The food on board was great and had lovely presentation. The weather was rough our week at sea however David quickly handled any situation that arose without hesitation or stress. I felt safe the entire week. The biggest bonus of the week was meeting his daughter Jeanne, who was crewing for him for internship hours. She was utterly delightful!!! Thank you David - See you again on your new boat .
Top and superb rental! We rented the boat for our valentine’s trip and it was wonderful - the weather also played along (although a bit cloudy/windy in the morning), but again it was February :) Carlos was very helpful and responsive to organizing our rental, and Toni who welcomed us in the harbor, gave us top diving and snorkeling tips. He was also very responsive throughout the day!

I discovered Click&Boat surfing the Internet. I am a naturally curious person, and your website caught my attention right away. I started reading about your general terms and conditions, where I quickly found a phone number. After talking to the client service, which was very pleasing, I decided to try out the platform.
At the age of 16, I was volunteering for the Red Cross of the Sea, where our goal was to assure sailing regattas. It is during that period that I learned to navigate on small boats for the first time. After 30 years, I finally got to own my first fishing boat bigger than 8 meters in length. Five years ago, a friend of mine who made his fishing boat available for charter, invited me to come aboard with him and some clients. It is then that I saw how much people appreciated the sea. So, I decided to pass my professional license to be able to take people out on the water in Mallorca.
The service that I offer is simple charters without skipper, because many people own a boat license, and our vessels are easy to handle. We are starting private excursions where we can take people on the boats to places they could not go to by themselves.
Most of the profits we make are spent on fleet upgrades. I always like to remember how thankful renters are when they are satisfied with our service.
Maribel and I would like to thank Click & Boat for their trust and service.
Regards to the entire Click & Boat team,

As part of the third largest continent in the world, the best time to visit during your superyacht vacation will naturally depend on your destination;
- Pacific Northwest – peak cruising times are during the months of June-September, however, the shoulder months of May and early October are also worth considering, offering a less crowded chartering experience, especially around the San Juans, and the weather is still usually quite settled.
- West Coast – for yacht rentals around San Francisco, Napa Valley, California and Baja California further south, the best time to visit is around May through to November, although these destinations can be enjoyed all year round.
- Florida – the optimum times to visit the Sunshine State will be from November through to April, which are the driest months where temperatures rarely dip below 20 degrees in winter. You should note that Christmas and New Year are peak times and can get busy, so if you are looking to rent a yacht over this period we recommend booking early. Ideally, ensure your yacht charter is booked no later than late spring/early summer to avoid the hurricane season from July-October.
- New England – the ideal time to visit this charming location will be from May to September, although shoulder months are a great time to avoid the crowds, especially late September when the foliage on the leaves start to change to reveal the breathtaking canvas of golden hues and rich deep reds this destination is so famous for.

This will ensure your yacht broker has plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you and your guests, including any nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

Follow the wind and tides down past Santa Cruz and take shelter in the scalloped bay encircling the beautiful town of Monterey , a bustling waterfront offering plenty of dining options where you can enjoy the local specialty of freshly caught squid. Don’t miss the Monterey Aquarium , one of the best on the West Coast.
If you are intending to include the stunning Baja California in your itinerary, where better than to kick things off in the eternally glamorous city of Los Angeles , where convenient transport links, not to mention some of the finest restaurants and bars in America, will prove a great starting point for your yacht charter. Take a stroll along Redondo Beach , Los Angeles’ hidden gem, before heading back to your yacht. Cruise to Newport Beach just off the coast of Los Angeles, the renowned playground for mega yachts and Hollywood royalty. If you’ve booked ahead, moor up at Newport Beach Club, one of the oldest in the US, and take a stroll across the bridge to Balboa Island , where nostalgically charming cottages with white picket fences, saltwater taffy shops and wooden ice-cream parlors abound.
Across the water you’ll find the beautiful Santa Catalina Island , where crystal clear waters make the perfect spot for a picnic, followed by a swim and some snorkeling around the reef, where you will find an abundance of fascinating marine life.
Further south you'll be sure of a warm welcome in San Diego , with gorgeous sandy beaches and a plethora of parkland. Visit Redwood National Park where you can discover the world’s tallest trees. Of course, a trip to San Diego wouldn’t be complete without stops at San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld , where you can get up close and personal with some of their friendly killer whales!
If you have time, cruise down into Baja California , the world’s second-longest peninsula, where you will find yourself transported to a world of wild untamed beauty and romantic sunsets, where condors swoop on thermals high up in vast washed out skies, and nights are spent under a wide canopy of twinkling stars. Simply heaven.
Acadia National Park, Maine : a stunning rocky headland with a rich cultural heritage, featuring some of the highest mountains along the Atlantic Coast.
Everglades National Park, Florida : a unique tropical wilderness with UNESCO Biosphere status, where you can explore its vast network of wetlands and forests.
Universal Orlando Resort, Florida : the ultimate theme park for kids, big and small!
Museum of Modern Art, New York : boasting some of the world's finest collections of contemporary art.
Bunker Hill Monument, Massachusetts : a 221-foot towering obelisk commemorating one of the first major battles between British and Patriot forces in the American Revolutionary War in 1775.
San Diego Zoo, California : located in the beautiful Balboa Park, the zoo boasts over 12,000 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies.
Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska : spectacular 13 miles long glacier located in southeast Alaska, in the Mendenhall Valley.
Lido Key Beach, Florida : exquisite white-sand beach lapped by turquoise waters, located on Barrier Island off the coast of Florida.

USA Yacht Charter Q&A
Whilst some yachts are legally permitted to charter in the US, others do not meet American fiscal requirements and so are not available for charter whilst in US waters. Many charter yachts are foreign flag vessels and don't qualify.
Please speak with a yacht charter broker for further information on specific yachts that can charter in US Waters.
Where to begin your yacht charter depends on your chosen destination in this hugely diverse continent. For New England yacht charters, the popular option is Newport, Rhode Island, an all-American yachting hub boasting picturesque harbours, gilded-age mansions and chic yacht clubs.
For Florida yacht charters, the glamorous city of Miami tends to be the preferred jumping off point. Alternatively, yacht charters can begin in Nassau, Bahamas before making their way up the Florida Keys to finish up in Florida. With a raft of international airports at your disposal, along with world-class cruising areas, the choice is really up to you.
For yacht charters on the southwest coast, a popular starting point is in the beautiful harbor of San Francisco, where views of the Golden Gate Bridge greet you as you fly in. For charters in the Pacific northwest region, most yacht charters incorporate either the breathtaking San Juan Islands or the scenic splendor of Alaska further north, with most international flights routing through the main hub Seattle for both destinations, with smaller charter flights operating out from here.
There are myriad yachts available for charter in America, which come in all shapes and sizes, from speedy planing models to luxury mega yachts and everything in between.
The costs will vary depending on your chosen destination and time of year, so be sure to contact your yacht broker well in advance who can help you secure your perfect yacht and itinerary, including any nights you wish to spend in marinas.
The best time to visit during your yacht charter really depends on your destination;
New England – May-September, although shoulder months are a great time to avoid the crowds.
Florida – November-April. Be sure to avoid the hurricane season from July-October.
Southwest – May-November, although this region can be enjoyed all year round.
Pacific Northwest – June-September, although shoulder months of May and early October are also worth considering.
To give you an idea of which yachts are available, you can browse the complete fleet of North American charter yachts on our site. If you make an enquiry, a yacht charter broker will be in touch to provide you with a custom charter proposal based on your requirements.
Alternatively, please speak with your preferred yacht charter broker , who can help you find the ideal yacht and itinerary for you and your charter party.
Speak with your yacht broker who can arrange to secure your chosen yacht on your selected dates. Your broker will then draw up a legally binding agreement for you both to sign, along with the yacht owner and captain.
Depending on the type of contract, usually a standard agreement with terms applicable to the destination, you will be required to pay 50% of the base charter fee, plus a further 25-30% to cover additional costs incurred whilst on charter, such as fuel, food and drink and marina fees.
To find out more, read our guide on yacht charter costs , which details the costs involved when booking a yacht charter. For more information, please speak with a yacht broker .

How much does it cost to charter a yacht?
There are many things to consider and first time charterers can be left confused, that's why we've created a comprehensive guide to yacht charter prices (with a checklist).
The good news: It’s easy to grasp the basics of yacht charter pricing. And with one of our experts in your corner, we can help you more accurately estimate the cost of your next once-in-a-lifetime vacation.
The cost of a yacht charter is dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the charter destination, local taxes, and the base cost. (If the yacht has a celebrity owner, well that too, can add to the cost.)
Therefore, yacht charters have a wide range of base prices. That’s why charters can cost from $10,000 per week on smaller sailing yachts and catamarans, up to $150,000+ per week on the most luxurious motor superyachts.
What else can you expect to pay? This overview – a part of our planning resource, the Charter Advice Guide – offers an in-depth look at charter yacht costs.
Yacht Charter Price Structure: “All-Inclusive” vs “Plus Expenses”
In the world of yachting, two types of crewed yacht charters are available to you – “All-Inclusive” and “Plus Expenses” charter experiences. What do these terms mean exactly? Here’s a quick look:
- All-Inclusive Yacht Charters – Some charters (mainly catamaran and monohull charters in the Virgin Islands) offer all-inclusive rates. That means rates are based on the number of guests, and they include all food and drink, water sports, and fuel costs. Dockage and taxes, though, are usually charged separately.
- Plus Expenses Charters – Rates for larger motor yachts do not include running expenses, which must be paid separately. For these luxury charters, the base price is for the yacht only. Additional expenses, i.e. food, bar, fuel, dockage, port taxes, and other expenses, are charged separately. Most frequently, the running expenses are paid by an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, which is typically 35% of the base price; this is an amount that’s paid prior to the charter.
Our chart below offers a quick overview of what’s included in both of these types of charters.
Average Yacht Charter Cost: Base Prices
What can you expect to pay for a catamaran, a sailing vessel, or motored yacht? Here’s a quick overview of the average cost to rent a yacht (not including extra expenses) for the most common types available:
Factors that Affect Yacht Charter Prices
Since charter yachts are privately owned, prices are set by the owner. This can explain, in part, the wide range of differences in price between boats of similar lengths. Yet, several other factors can significantly impact price, including:
- The Yacht – The year the boat was built, the builder, previous owners, and the boat’s selection of water toys can also increase the cost of a yacht. Boats can also develop a reputation, i.e. the largest or most luxurious, or having a famous builder or previous owner. Reputation can also affect pricing.
- Season – Prices typically increase in the high season – i.e. high summer in the Mediterranean or winter in the Caribbean – and decrease in low seasons.
- Destination – Your charter destination also plays a role in charter cost. For example, prices increase in areas without large charter fleets (i.e. the Galapagos), whereas Bahamas yacht charters, BVI charters , or Mediterranean yacht charter are priced more competitively.
Additional Costs Considerations on Yacht Charter
In addition to the cost associated with running the yacht and provisioning, there are a number of other costs that must be considered. These are the most significant:
Advanced Provisioning Allowance
The APA on Plus Expenses charters equals roughly 35% of the yacht’s base price. This is a fee that’s collected prior to charter, and it’s similar to an expense account the captain can access during the charter. At the end of the charter, you will receive a detailed accounting of your APA account, plus any unused APA funds in cash.
In the case of overages, you may be required to replenish the APA account during the charter. This can be done with cash, although many choose to set up accounts with their charter brokers , which can be accessed if requested by the captain.
Taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT)
Most boats – whether all-inclusive or Plus Expenses – will not include local taxes or a Value Added Tax into their charter rate. The charterer will be responsible for paying those taxes. Taxes range significantly by destination; here’s a look at some of yachting’s most popular destinations:
- The Bahamas – Tax: 4% plus 10% VAT
- BVI – Tax: between $6 and $16 per person per day, depending on the flag of the boat
- Croatia – VAT: 13%
- Florida – Tax: 6% for Broward County, 7% for Miami-Dade County
- France – VAT: 20%, however, 10% can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
- Greece – VAT: 12%
- Italy – VAT: 22%, however 6.6% (over 24m) and 8.8% (under 24m) can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
- Montenegro – NO VAT
- New England – NO TAX
- Spain – VAT: 21%
- Turkey – NO VAT
Charterers can purchase cancellation and curtailment insurance – which is similar to traveler’s insurance. This insurance can help cover costs if a charterer must cancel or shorten the charter. Charter brokers can help you weigh insurance options, and often offer several different options.
Crew Gratuity
While crew gratuity is certainly not mandatory, it is recommended, particularly if you were truly impressed with your charter experience. In general, crew gratuity is roughly 15-20% of the base charter rate, which is handed to the captain at the conclusion of your charter.
Delivery Fees
While these fees do not apply on most charters, you may be asked to pay delivery costs if you are not chartering in the yacht’s normal cruising ground. In most cases, you will only be required to cover the fuel for the trip.

Additional Charter Cost FAQs
What are standard private charter yacht prices?
There are a number of factors that affect charter yacht pricing. However, on average, a week-long private yacht charter costs anywhere from $10,000 on luxurious sailing yachts and catamarans, and up to $150,000 for superyachts.
What affects charter yacht prices?
There are several things that influence how much your yacht charter will cost. The type of vessel, charter destination, length of trip, base cost, time of year, and local taxes all make a difference.
How much does it cost for a crewed vessel?
Charter yacht prices do increase when hiring a crew along with the boat. At Worldwide Boat, we offer two types of crewed charter experiences: all-inclusive and plus expenses. An all-inclusive charter yacht includes accommodation for all guests, food and drink, water sport activities, and fuel costs – dockage fees and taxes are charged separately. A plus expenses experience accounts for just the yacht’s base price. Things like food, drinks, fuel, dockages, taxes, and other expenses are charged separately and are usually estimated to be about 35% of the base price.
What’s included in all-inclusive boat charters?
At Worldwide Boat, your all-inclusive charter experience includes a diligent and friendly crew, water toys, food, drinks, fuel, water and electric services, and occasionally diving experiences.
What are some additional charter boat costs to consider?
After finding a base price you’re comfortable with and evaluating your package, you’ll also want to consider delivery fees, crew gratuity, insurance fees, taxes, and Advanced Provisioning Allowance rates. If you are responsible for these fees, your crew will handle the necessary transactions on your behalf.
What does it cost to rent a 100- foot yacht charter?
This depends on what type of vessel you’re looking at and how long you’ll need it for. The average weekly cost of a 100-foot sailing yacht is between $50,000-100,000. A weekly 80-foot catamaran charter runs around $40,000-100,000, and a week-long 100-foot motor yacht rental is anywhere between $50,000-80,000.
Does the price to rent a yacht change depending on what type of boat it is?
Yes. Worldwide Boat offers sailing yachts, catamarans, and motor yachts. All of these vessels have different capabilities, but there are other factors that determine the price beyond what type of boat you choose. The year the boat was built, owner, availability of water toys, onboard amenities, and the ship’s reputation can all change how much the ship is priced at.
When is the high season for yacht charters?
The price of a yacht fluctuates depending on the season. A Mediterranean yacht charter cost rises in the summer and drops in the winter, whereas Caribbean boat charter prices are high during the winter and lower in the summer months.
How does my destination affect charter yacht cost?
The more remote an area is, the more expensive it will be to charter a yacht there. That’s because prices go up in areas that have fewer boats. If you were to travel somewhere like the Galapagos, which isn’t a typical yacht destination, you’d pay more than you would if you were traveling to the Caribbean.
How much do I tip the crew when reviewing my yacht charter expenses?
It’s not required that you tip your crew, but it is recommended and appreciated. If you had an enjoyable experience it’s considered polite to tip your crew anywhere from 15-20% at the end of your charter.

Finding the Right Sailboat Charter
Finding the right sailboat to rent for your next sailing vacation or regatta is easier than you may think . Our 12 Knots user-friendly charter yacht website provides you with everything you need: an interactive destination map, availability calendar, boat mode l /charter type search, as well as real time availability and the assistance of a personal manager.
Whether you are looking to sail away on Caribbean vacation with the family, want to sail across the finish line in an upcoming race , or simply want to gain more experience skippering your own boat - we have the ideal sailboat rental for whatever your aspiration may be .
In order to find the right boat for your sailing vacation, it’s essential to know what types of sail ing yacht rentals are available - so you can choose one that meets your specific needs .
All sailing yachts can be divided into cruising, racing , and racing-cruising. These yachts vary in purpose , design , and technical characteristics .
Cruising Yachts
Cruising yachts focus mainly on family vacation s when one person or a small crew can easily operate the boat. These boats are spacious and comfortable . They are designed for leisurely sailing in coastal waters and open sea. Cruising yachts have from one to five cabins, saloon with galley and one or more heads (WC) with showers .
Racing Yachts
Racing yachts are known for their high performance and speed- but not necessarily for their comfort. A mong other characteristics, a racer boat differs in the design of their sail - providing an adrenaline rush for sailors that can easily reach up to 20 knots depending on the size of the boat and number of sails.
Racing-Cruising Yachts
Racing - cruising boats are considered a dual purpose sail boat known for their speed, but also for ease of handling and durability. This type of sailboat charter is perfect for those who enjoy the duality of sailing at an accelerated momentum or at a l eisurely pace.
Choosing a Monohull or Multihull Sailboat
The hull of any vessel will also be an important factor in the sailboat rental you choose. Learning more about the style of hull s will give you a better insight into how the sailboat will operate when it’s cruising/racing out on the water. The following are the different styles of hulls on a sailboat:
Monohull - Monohull has only one hull and is the most common type of sailboat . Monohull charter sailboats can be found worldwide and are ideal for both racing and cruising to any coastal or open-sea destination .
Catamaran - Catamarans have two hulls and operate a bit differently than their monohull counterpart. They are known for their spacious design , as well as their speed and stability. One of the most popular style sailboats for cruising is a Catamaran . They offer spacious and comfortable living accommodations and are well-suited for tropical destinations.
Trimaran - As the name implies , a trimaran sailboat will have 3 hulls. Similar to a catamaran’s sailing abilities, it provides additional stability when sailing in open waters . A trimaran has 2 outer hulls of equal size, but its middle/center hull will be longer ; offering a more spacious, comfortable living space.

How Much Does a Sailboat Charter Cost?
Why take your next vacation on a crowded cruise line or miss out on the Barcolana or America’s Cup race?
There is no better time to take that sailing vacation you’ve always dreamed of. The truth is that many of the sailing yachts for rent offered by 12 Knots are either less expensive or comparable to a week-long stay at a vacation resort . Not only are charter sailboats an affordable option for your next vacation , there are a vast number of sailboat rentals to choose from that will suit any budget - whether you are travelling with the entire family , sailing off on your own, or joining a crew of professionals .
Chartering a sailboat is often preferred over a motorboat rental because they allow you the freedom of moving from point to point powered only by the sails and the wind- which is a much safer, greener , and cheaper option ; especially if you’re considering a leisurely and tranquil sailing vacation.
At 12 K nots, we offer different price levels for our sailboat charters. Generally speaking, they start at about $100-250 US dollars per person /per day . Often, this rate will be all inclusive - where cabins/berths, meals, beverages, etc. will be included in the price.
With special offers and booking discounts offered at 12 Knots , renting a sailboat charter is one of the most affordable ways to travel the globe. Whether you decide on a bareboat sailing charter or a crewed sailboat rental , the cost of your sailboat charter will always depend on the following factors:
T ype of vessel/charter
D estination
D uration of trip
S eason /time of year
A menities
Best Destinations for Chartering a Sailboat
There are so many amazing destinations across the globe for sailing- the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Far East and South Pacific are some of the more popular locations for sailing enthusiasts .
Yet, where you head to on your sailing adventure will depend on your skill as a captain, the type and size of sailboat you charter, as well as the location itself. Depending on the time of year you plan on travelling , some destinations can become extremely crowed - which can make mooring and docking a multihull sailboat a challenge.
Coastal sailing - Sailing along the coast of a country means you’ll be sailing in protected waters and always be able to see the land. Weather conditions will be more stable, the waters will be shallower, and if needed, you’ll always have support of the Coast Guard. Ideal for boats from 24- 30 feet.
Off Shore sailing - When sailing off shore you won’t be able to see land. Sailing off shore can become challenging with unpredictable weather patterns that cause rougher sailing conditions. You’ll still have support of the Coast Guard, but response time will take longer. Ideal for boats up to 45 feet.
Bluewater sailing - Although you’ll be out on the open sea , blue water sailing will be relatively calm. However, you’ll want to avoid sailing during hurricane season because you’ll be totally self-reliant on your boating experience and skills . Bluewater wind conditions can be reliable , especially when you use the trade winds for sailing. Ideal for larger sailboats 35f t and up .
Charter Sailboat Requirements
One of the top questions in regard to sailboat rentals is …do I need a license to charter a sailboat?
Although chartering a sailboat is a relatively easy process, the requirements are a bit more complex.
When you charter a boat, the qualifications you need will be contingent upon which countries (destinations) you plan on sailing to . Some local authorities will require an official certificate or simply a boating resume that states your experience and competency ; while other countries may require a boating license.
If you are planning on chartering any type of sailboat it’s always a good idea to be licensed, or in the very least obtain a certificate that states your formal training. If you are unsure of the requirements/documentation you’ll need for your sailing charter, our team at 12 Knots is always available to help.

Overnight Yacht Rentals In Miami
Book a yacht rental in Miami! It’s arguably one of the best boating destinations in the world. Crystal clear waters, stunning beaches, and perfect weather all year round – no Miami vacation is complete without a day on the water! That is why you have to book a yacht rental in Miami.
Looking to plan an incredible vacation on a yacht?
One of our most popular trips is an overnight yacht rental to the Bahamas!
How it Works
- Choose your yacht
- Choose your dates
- Pick your Itinerary
Choosing Your Yacht
The most important thing to keep in mind when planning your overnight yacht rental in Miami is the number of beds. Most yachts over 60ft will come with at least 2 staterooms. Larger yachts will have more staterooms and more beds.
You’ll need to choose a yacht with enough beds and enough staterooms for your entire group. Also, make sure you note the sleeping arrangements on the yacht. Some yachts have staterooms with one queen bed and other rooms with two twin beds. Depending on the makeup of your group, you will want to choose different sleeping arrangements so that everyone is comfortable.
Choosing Your Dates
When you’re looking to book an overnight yacht rental in Miami, it’s best to plan at least 6-8 weeks in advance. This will help ensure that you get the yacht you are looking for on the exact dates you are looking for.
If you are looking to book around Christmas or new year’s, it’s best to try and plan at least 8-12 weeks in advance. The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for overnight charters so be sure to plan in advance.
Pick Your Itinerary
When you arrive at the yacht in Miami, you will be welcomed by the crew and chef with drinks to start your trip. We’ll depart from Miami at 12pm and arrive in Bimini around 4pm.
When we arrive at Bimini we will stop off at Bimini Bay Resort where you can enjoy drinks and our crew will reserve a cabana for your. Our crew will also rent a golf cart and give you and your group a quick tour of the island. You can stop and see Ernest Hemingway’s house or visit the village and head to village beach which is a very popular beach club with a DJ.
When you arrive back to the boat, you can have a sunset dinner prepared by our chef and party on the yacht .
On the second day of the charter we will head to shipwreck SS Sapona. This is one of the best snorkeling locations in the Bahamas. You will see a plethora of fish and other wildlife since coral has developed on the SS Sapona. Guests absolutely love snorkeling at this location. It’s without a doubt one of the highlights of all of our Bimini charters.
After exploring shipwreck SS Sapona, we will head over to Honeymoon harbor where you can go swimming with stingrays. Honeymoon harbor also has water toys, jet skis, and paddleboards that you can use.
Final Thoughts

Benetti ’s latest design concept and the smaller Oasis deck that preceded it are just two examples of how clients are looking to replace starched salons and prim dining rooms with larger, easier-living exterior spaces. This also includes a preference for foldout rear decks, reimagined bows, and balconies that extend when activated, all of which are in evidence on Bilgin ’s 263-foot Leona , which showcases how to design every conceivable square foot across the yacht toward enhancing the outside environment.
That trend “has really gained steam,” says Dickie Bannenberg, of yacht-design house Bannenberg & Rowell . “Now it’s all balconies, beach clubs, and shell doors everywhere you look. And it’s not just on 200-foot boats, either—it extends down into production models.”
Andrew Collett, team principal at U.K.-based design firm RWD , which conceived both the Oasis and the Veranda deck configurations, says the change in tack is driven by a new generation of owners who are “seeking spacious areas that blend indoor and outdoor living, with clear views of the water.”
The pandemic intensified demand for airier layouts, says Collett, much as tuberculosis impacted modernist architecture in the 20th century, when residential blueprints began to include hospital-inspired sanctuaries with balconies and clean, well-lit interiors. And while he says that some of the aesthetic shift predated the pandemic’s lockdowns, it’s also true that “Covid heightened the appreciation for open-air environments and privacy. Now we’re just aligning with new preferences for health consciousness.”
As with carbon fiber’s popularity in smaller boats, “the evolution of glass-related technologies makes possible what really wasn’t achievable in the past,” says Bernardo Zuccon of Studio Zuccon , designer of Sanlorenzo ’s 57Steel Virtuosity and many other glass-laden superyachts. “Since structural glass is at times stronger than steel, we’re seeing the extreme enhancement of transparent surfaces. That allows for great versatility in our designs.”
Glass’s technical renaissance—and how the notion of boundaries has changed thanks to it—is evident on gigayachts including the 297-foot Dar, the 263-foot Excellence, and the 263-foot Artefact, but nowhere more so than the 141-foot catamaran This Is It, with a superstructure and hull made of more than 50 percent of the material.
Other recent launches, including Sanlorenzo’s SX112, feature entirely open aft decks with cutaway sides, while Sanlorenzo’s X-Space and Baglietto ’s T52 maximize as much exterior square footage as their designers could justify across their tiered decks.
“People don’t want to be inside,” says Bannenberg. “They want healthy outdoor living, and the designers are adapting accordingly.” Which means, for increasingly innovative superyacht concepts, the sky’s the limit.

DeSantis details alarming find aboard Haitian migrant boat seized off Florida coast
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday that state law enforcement had intercepted a vessel coming to the Florida coast carrying dozens of Haitian migrants, as well as firearms, drugs and night vision gear.
"Our Florida Fish and Wildlife offices interdicted a vessel that had 25 illegal immigrants, potential illegal immigrants from Haiti in their boat. In their vessel they had firearms, they had drugs, they had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly, which would potentially endanger other folks," DeSantis said, adding that the interdiction had occurred "recently" in the last few weeks.
"That vessel was interdicted near the Sebastian Inlet and those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation," he said.
DESANTIS SENDS SOLDIERS, AIRCRAFT TO ‘PROTECT’ FLORIDA FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS BOATS AMID HAITI UNREST
DeSantis made the announcement at a press conference in which he also signed three pieces of legislation to deter illegal immigration into the Sunshine State.
The Republican governor had earlier this week announced an increase of personnel and aircraft to the Florida coast in light of unrest in Haiti and the potential for an increase in migration via the sea from the conflict-hit country.

The Caribbean nation has seen a significant escalation in violence as gangs have overrun the capital, burning police stations and attacking the main airport. Gangs have also raided some of the largest prisons, releasing thousands of inmates.
DHS WARNS HAITIAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARRIVING BY BOAT FACE ‘IMMEDIATE REPATRIATION’
The deployment in Florida includes 48 additional National Guardsmen with four additional helicopters, 39 officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 30 additional Florida Highway Patrol officers with aircraft and drones, and 23 additional officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with eight additional seacraft, according to DeSantis' office.
He stressed on Friday that this had been going on for a while, and this was an increase in enforcement and not a new operation. He said that from Jan 2023 last week, officials had assisted the Coast Guard with the interdiction of 670 vessels carrying over 13,500 illegal immigrants.
"The message is the last thing you should want to do is get on a boat and think you're going to come through from any of these islands to get to the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "The most likely scenario is you'll be stopped, and you will be returned to your country of origin."
HAITIAN PRIME MINISTER ARIEL HENRY TO RESIGN AMID LOW-SCALE CIVIL WAR, BOWING TO INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE
"It's a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing, and we have the resources to continue to keep the people of Florida safe."
On Tuesday, Rebecca Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, told lawmakers that the Pentagon is "alert" to the possibility of a mass migration event, but it has also not yet seen large numbers.
"I think you’re right that the driving conditions in Haiti could very well press more people," she told Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. "We recently approved some additional assistance we could provide to the Coast Guard."
The Department of Homeland Security has also said it is monitoring the situation, but has stressed that migration flows in the Caribbean remain "low." It also warned that those crossing face being turned back to their country of origin.
"U.S. policy is to return noncitizens who do not have a fear of persecution or torture or a legal basis to enter the United States. Those interdicted at sea are subject to immediate repatriation pursuant to our longstanding policy and procedures. The United States returns or repatriates migrants interdicted at sea to The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti," a spokesperson said.
On Friday, DeSantis also signed three pieces of legislation related to immigration. One increased the maximum sentence for people driving without a license. Another enhances penalties for crimes committed by illegal immigrants who return to the country after deportation, while the third bill states that no jurisdiction can recognize IDs that are distributed by other states to illegal immigrants.

3 dead as Ohio tornadoes prompt mass casualty response in Logan County
Gov. mike dewine: 'the indian lake community will come back'.
At least three people are dead as a result of a series of severe storms ravaged Ohio on Thursday night, spawning a series of 20 tornado warnings across the state and knocking out power to thousands. For the second time in as many weeks , storms and likely tornadoes tore through Ohio.
Authorities in Logan County are dealing with a mass casualty incident where at least three people died in tornado that struck a trailer park near Indian Lake , located about 70 miles northwest of Columbus. The National Weather Service confirmed as of 2 p.m. Friday that at least four tornadoes touched down across Ohio.
Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds said the number of deaths could increase as rescue efforts continue.
"It's one hell of a mess up there," Dodds said. "It looks like a war zone."
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine: 'There's an awful lot of damage'
Dodds said there were areas where first responders could not search overnight because of debris and downed power lines that made it unsafe. He said there is anticipation that there may be more people found dead during searches that will continue Friday morning.
Dodds said there are areas where a single home may have remained untouched while everything around it has been leveled.
"The power of this thing is just amazing. It hopped around but when you look at it, it's just amazing."
Officials including Gov. DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Senate President Matt Huffman and others held a news conference at around 3:30 Friday to give an update on the recovery.
DeWine drove through the Indian Lake area before the press conference to talk with home owners and those impacted by the storms.
"There's an awful lot of damage," he said.
DeWine said the Indian Lake community will rebound from the tragedy.
"The Indian Lake community will come back. That's the message I got from everybody," DeWine said at Indian Lake High School.
State Rep. Jon Cross, R-Findlay, who represents part of the area, said lawmakers have to work with the governor to get the community back open.
"This is a community that relies on tourism," Cross said. "We have devastated businesses that lost everything. We need to get these businesses back open.
Ohio's emergency operations center activated Thursday night during the severe weather and continues to coordinate damage assessment and clean-up efforts with local, state and federal agencies.
“Fran and I are deeply saddened by those impacted by the tornadoes and severe storms,” DeWine said in a statement issued shortly before noon. “We share the grief of the families who lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. Ohioans will come together as they always do with resilience and compassion as we support and rebuild our communities.”
Indian Lake residents assess Ohio tornado damage
Indian Lake resident Blaine Schmitt was working outside his home last night when his wife called him.
She warned him about the tornado and told him to get into the bathtub. He gathered his dog and friend, Greg McDougle, and hunkered down in the bathroom.
Over the next few minutes, the tornado swept through Schmitt's home, shredding the front wall and scattering debris in his yard.
"It sounded like a freight train literally went through the living room," Schmitt said.
Luckily, Schmitt and McDougle managed to get through the storm unscathed.
"I thank God that I'm alive and that my kids weren't here. It was very emotional when I first got here, and it's been emotional ever since then. But I pray every day and it paid off," Schmitt said.
McDougle used to live next door with his father. He sold the home two years ago, and it was being renovated when the storm hit. Now, all that remains is scattered debris, a single flattened wall, and the foundation.
"This is what's left. No one was living here, and thank God for that," McDougle said.
Logan County resident describes tornadoes: 'It's a noise you'll never forget'
As storms approached Logan County late Thursday, Loretta Kinney told her goddaughter Lucy there was nothing to be afraid of.
Kinney and her brother walked Lucy home and by the time they returned to their own house, Kinney said she realized just how wrong she was. The two headed down to the basement and waited out a storm and likely tornadoes that rolled across the Midwest and the Indian Lake region about 70 miles northwest of Columbus.
By the time they'd emerge, Kinney would come to find out that at least three people had died and homes and businesses around the county had been ripped apart.
"Just the noise. When they say you hear a train, it's a noise you'll never forget," Kinney said. "Then to come up and see it, it is so surreal. Even though I'm standing here and looking at everything it doesn't seem real."
Shelter opens for Indian Lake storm victims
The Logan County Emergency Management Agency said it's opened a shelter for victims of Thursday night's storm at the Church of God located at 1000 E Brown Ave.
The United Way of Logan County also established a relief fund where monetary donations can be made to assist residents who have been impacted by the storms.
Donations can be made online to the Indian Lake Tornado Relief Fund at www.uwlogan.org and 100% of donations will go to help community members recover in both the short and long-term from the storms.
Possible tornado strikes Lakeview, Indian Lake: 'People's homes are destroyed'
Columbus Dispatch Photographer Doral Chenoweth arrived in the area before midnight and reported finding extensive damage, including a destroyed trailer park with tractor trailers and RVs overturned and large trees uprooted. In Lakeview, the library and a government building were damaged.
"Every building in Lakeview and every building here has some form of damage," he said, from a spot near Lakeview. "People's homes are destroyed."
The Logan EMA confirmed for The Dispatch that a trailer park in the Indian Lake area just north of Lakeview was struck by a tornado or at least very high winds that have caused extensive damage. The community also reported having a shortage of ambulances.
An NWS spokesman said he couldn't confirm that a tornado struck the community but said there was "reports of a lot of damage there." The NWS will send investigators out Friday to confirm the tornadoes as it did last month when nine were confirmed across Ohio .
Thursday's Ohio storms were part of a larger system that pushed through the Midwest beginning in the afternoon and into the evening.
The Indiana State Police said there are “many significant injuries” after a tornado tore through the community of Winchester, AP reported.
“There have been many, many significant injuries, but I don’t know the number. I don’t know where they are. I don’t know what those injuries are,” Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter told reporters just before midnight Thursday. “There’s a lot that we don’t know yet.”
The National Weather Service in Wilmington and Cleveland issued 20 tornado warnings based on a review of social media posts. That does not include multiple thunderstorms and other alerts.
Indian Lake volunteers continue search for people impacted by storms
Emergency personnel conducted "grid searches" Friday morning in the impacted areas where the storm struck, the sheriff said.
Grid searches are methodical searches using a grid pattern to ensure that all areas can be checked without duplicating efforts and minimizing the risk of missing an area.
The sheriff said there are areas that first responders are able to access during the daylight that were not accessible Thursday night because of downed power lines and concerns about gas leaks. Those areas are now being searched. Crews are also researching areas that were searched Thursday night to ensure that no one who needed medical assistance was missed.
While there has been a "plethora" of volunteers who have arrived on the scene, Dodds said volunteers are more likely to be necessary as the searches conclude and the clean-up effort begins.
The Central Ohio Strike Team mobilized Friday morning to go to the Indian Lake area to help with the ongoing emergency response. The strike team, one of five regional teams across the state that are specially trained to respond when there are large-scale disasters, includes firefighters from every agency in Franklin County.
The members of the strike team receive special training on how to do search and rescue operations in the event of structure collapses, as well as how to do rescue operations in confined spaces and machinery extractions.
AEP transmission towers toppled in Delaware County
AEP Ohio confirmed that the storms toppled six transmission towers near Olentangy Berlin High School. As of 9:15 a.m. Friday, the number of customers without power had risen to more than 13,000.
Photos posted by the utility company on social media show the tower on its side. The tower fell into other power lines in the area.
AEP issued a statement Friday afternoon saying more than 30 power lines came down in the storm, as well as six transmission towers in Delaware County.
The utility company said the goal is to have power restored to as many customers as possible on Friday, however, some customers who get their power from the high-voltage transmission towers could face a potential multi-day outage. AEP said as more information is gathered throughout Friday afternoon, those affected customers will receive an automated phone call.
Specks and tatters of insulation lined sidewalks and the sides of houses at the Pine of Berlin Station, a subdivision near Berlin Middle School. Debris from inside houses — books, crayons, a broken pair of child’s glasses — were scattered in the grass.
“Someone else’s roof is in my kitchen,” said Katie Sprinkle, who weathered the storm with her husband and two kids, ages 9 and 11. The storm terrified her 9-year-old daughter.
“Pray loud, mom,” she said her daughter told her.
The kids wore bike helmets to protect themselves from falling debris, and her husband placed an overturned canoe over them. The family could hear windows breaking in the wind. It sounded like an explosion, Sprinkle said.
Delaware County road closures due to Thursday's storms
Several major traffic routes in Delaware County remained closed as of 7 a.m. Friday because of debris in the roadway. Ohio 315, closed between Hyatts Road and U.S. 23, is expected to remain closed at least through morning rush hour.
The Delaware County Sheriff's office is asking that people avoid the area where the aftermath of the storms are and avoid sightseeing. There are continued concerns about live wires and large trees in the roads.
In a post on Facebook Friday morning, the Delaware County Sheriff's office said crews have been working throughout the night to try and clear roadways but there are areas where debris continues to block roads.
The sheriff's office asked for additional travel time and patience from drivers, as well as willingness to take alternate routes.
The sheriff's office said that as of 5 a.m. Friday, a number of roads remained impassable. Those roads included:
- Portions of Berlin Station Road near Glenn Parkway, between Kingsbury and Braumiller, between Piatt and Dale Ford
- Portions of Bunty Station east of Liberty Road
- Africa Road north of Cheshire
- Portions of Rome Corners
- Portions of Walnut Road and Piatt Road
- Portions of Ohio 3
Tornado warnings from Thursday night's deadly tornadoes
Storms hit indiana, kentucky and northern, central and southern ohio.
At least three confirmed tornadoes touched down Thursday afternoon in southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky Thursday, leaving dozens of structures damaged or destroyed, The Louisville Courier-Journal reported .
Tornadoes were confirmed near Hanover and Marion in Indiana and near Milton in Kentucky. As for Ohio, officials have said it's too early to say just how widespread the storms were, or whether any confirmed tornadoes touched down.
Meteorologist Steve Harbenach of the National Weather Service in Wilmington said there have been several radar confirmations of possible tornadoes across Ohio, but added "we really have no idea right now how many tornadoes we had."
"There have been numerous areas where we've had reports of damage," he added. "It's going to take a while for us to sort through that. it's going to take multiple days for us to sort through this to see what happened."
An X user who was driving from Lima and passing through Logan took pictures of the extensive damage. In the post on X, he said authorities told him that he had missed a tornado "by about 2 minutes." He could not confirm if there were any casualties but said that a large section of U.S. Route 33 northwest of Marysville would remain closed as authorities assessed the damage.
Tornado watches remained in effect until midnight in dozens of Ohio counties, including Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Hocking, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, Union, Ross, Butler, Clinton, Hamilton, Warren, Champaign, Clark, Drake, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby.
Severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for Franklin and Madison counties until 11 p.m. Thursday.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
