Creative and Fun Three Syllable Activities for Kids

Children can greatly benefit from engaging with language through fun and interactive activities.

Here are some creative and enjoyable three-syllable word activities designed specifically for kids, helping them improve their language skills while having a blast.

  • Syllable Sorting Game : Set up three boxes labeled with the numbers 1, 2, and 3. Give children a mix of word cards (some with three syllables and others with different syllable counts). Kids can sort the cards into the correct box based on the number of syllables in each word. This activity helps them recognize and count syllables.
  • Clap and Count : This simple yet effective game involves children clapping their hands for each syllable in a word. Start by saying a three-syllable word aloud, and then have the kids clap three times as they repeat the word. This tactile approach reinforces syllable segmentation and pronunciation.
  • Syllable Hopscotch : Draw a hopscotch grid and write a three-syllable word in each square. Kids hop on the squares while saying each syllable. For example, if the word is “elephant,” they would say “el-e-phant” with each hop. This activity combines physical movement with learning, which is excellent for active learners.
  • Word Building Blocks : Use building blocks and write a syllable on each one. Children can stack the blocks to create three-syllable words. This hands-on activity is great for visual and kinesthetic learners and encourages creative word formation.
  • Syllable Fishing Game : Create a ‘fishing pond’ using a blue sheet or paper and cut out fish shapes from paper. Write a syllable on each fish and attach a paperclip. Kids use a ‘fishing rod’ (a stick with a magnet tied to a string) to catch fish and combine them to create three-syllable words. This game is fun and helps develop fine motor skills.
  • Rhythm and Rhyme : Turn three-syllable words into a rhythm game. Clap out a rhythm with the syllables of a word and have the children repeat it back. Then, challenge them to think of a rhyming word with the same number of syllables. This enhances not only their understanding of syllables but also their rhyming skills.
  • Storytelling Stars : Have children create a short story using a list of given three-syllable words. This activity encourages creativity, imagination, and the use of new vocabulary in context. It can be done individually or as a group, with each child adding a sentence to the story.
  • Word Detective : In this game, kids become detectives looking for three-syllable words. Use a children’s book or magazine and have them find and highlight words with three syllables. This helps with word recognition and reading skills.
  • Syllable Puppet Show : Children can use puppets to perform a show where each character only speaks in three-syllable words. This imaginative play helps kids practice speaking and listening skills while having fun.
  • Musical Syllables : Play a game similar to musical chairs, but instead of sitting when the music stops, kids must say a three-syllable word. This adds a linguistic twist to a classic game and can be very entertaining.

The Russian Navy Had Three Giant Be-200 Flying Boats. Then Ukrainian Drones Swarmed In.

One of the Be-200s lost a wing in an April 5 drone raid.

A Beriev Be-200.

Stung by relentless Russian air strikes on its cities and front-line forces and struggling with shortages of missiles for ground-based air defense batteries, on April 5 Ukraine struck back. Swarms of long-range attack drones targeted three Russian air bases.

The drone strikes on Yeysk, Kursk and Engels-2 air bases—respectively 100, 200 and 400 miles from the front line in Ukraine—inflicted some damage, but it’s hard to say how much damage.

The Ukrainian intelligence directorate told Kyiv Independent it damaged, if not destroyed, seven Russian warplanes. The Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies counted eight destroyed Russian planes and eight damaged ones.

But there’s satellite imagery confirming just one damaged jet—and it’s a doozy: a rare Beriev Be-200 jet-propelled flying boat. A new transport and search-and-rescue plane that can launch and land on water while carrying tons of cargo.

At least some of the drones that struck Yeysk, just across the Sea of Azov from southern Ukraine, exploded on the apron on the northeast edge of the base. There, the Russian navy had parked several of its planes, including some turboprop and jet transports, a pair of Sukhoi fighter-bombers and one of the 30-ton twin-jet Be-200s.

Satellite imagery from Planet Labs, recorded in the aftermath of the drone raid, seems to depict damage to the parked Be-200, including a missing wing panel and a fuel leak.

The Russian navy got its first Be-200 just four years ago and reportedly has three in its inventory, complementing a fast-shrinking fleet of very old propeller-driven Beriev Be-12 amphibians.

Maybe the damaged Be-200 is fixable. Maybe it’s a $40-millon write-off. In any event, it’s a tidy little victory for Ukraine’s growing drone strike force, which has been escalating its attacks on Russian air bases, headquarters and oil facilities as deep as 600 miles inside Russia.

The raids have suppressed Russian oil refining by around 10 percent, damaged the sole Russian factory producing Shahed attack drones and harassed and damaged Russian fighter regiments. And now, it seems, they’ve eliminated potentially a third of the Kremlin’s modern flying boats.

To be fair, the Be-200 the Ukrainians plinked at the Yeysk base might not be a navy Be-200. It could be a company plane, one of two the Beriev corporation apparently keeps on its rolls for tests.

Beriev has a factory at Yeysk where it builds big jets including the Be-200 and the A-50 radar early warning plane. After shooting down two of the nine or so A-50s in Russian air force service earlier this year, in March the Ukrainians targeted the Beriev factory —apparently hoping to destroy a damaged A-50 at the site.

It’s possible the Ukrainian drone operators were trying to hit the Be-200 in order to deprive the Russian navy of a precious search and transport asset. It’s also possible the operators were, once again, aiming for the Beriev production facilities.

Whether the flying boat was the target or just happened to be in the line of fire, its loss—whether permanent or temporary—further depletes the badly depleted Russian Black Sea Fleet and its supporting forces . Ukrainian missile and drone raids and sabotage have damaged or destroyed a quarter of the fleet’s big warships and several of its planes, including one rare flying boat.

And it will be difficult for the Russians to replace that flying boat while the factory that builds the type is under attack by the same exploding Ukrainian drones that took out the rare plane.

When does Fortnite Season 3 start? Here's everything we know so far

Fortnite Season 3 of Chapter 5 is due to launch in May 2024

When does Fortnite Season 3 start?

When does Fortnite Season 3 start is a question keen players may already be considering, even though we're only around a month into the current season in progress, and they might also be thinking about what the next theme will be running through the Season 3 Battle Pass. There have been plenty of changes for us to get used to already in Fortnite Season 2 of Chapter 5, with the Myths and Mortals theme introducing various Olympic champions and their mythic powers to mix things up in the battle royale.

However, Epic aren't known for resting on their laurels and will already be planning the next stage of development in Fortnite , so there will certainly be more changes brought in during the course of this chapter. If you're looking to the future and wondering what Fortnite Season 3 in Chapter 5 may have in store, then here's everything we know about it so far.

When does Fortnite Season 3 start in Chapter 5?

The Fortnite Season 3 release date hasn't been officially confirmed, but according to the Chapter 5 Season 2 Battle Pass, as seen on the Epic Games website and the in-game message on the Battle Pass screen, we can determine the current Season 2 Battle Pass will end on May 24, 2024 at 2am ET. This means that the Fortnite Season 3 start date will most likely also be Friday May 24, 2024 following the usual downtime for the transition, but it will be a while before we receive official confirmation of this. It's unlikely there will be another significant Fortnite live event to mark this changeover, as these tend to be reserved for the overall conclusion of chapters now.

What will be the biggest changes made for Fortnite Season 3?

Biggest changes for Fortnite Season 3

At the time of writing, we don't have official confirmation of what the biggest changes for Fortnite Season 3 will be as it's too early for that, and so far no solid information has been leaked about what's to come. We have seen some recent changes implemented that could have an effect on future seasons, such as removing Fortnite's cosmetic rarity system which has already proven unpopular with players. A potentially welcome feature to be added as part of that update, showing the planned date cosmetics are due to be rotated out in the Item Shop, won't be launching until late May so will likely coincide with the start of Season 3.

Fortnite have randomly removed every mention of "Weapon Charms" with this update, which is strange because they didn't remove any other scrapped cosmetic type like Hats, Bus Themes, etc.. 🤔Maybe preparing for a release with First-Person later this year along with Chapter 6 ⁉️ pic.twitter.com/IeuR7FMWJm April 10, 2024

According to Fortnite leaker HYPEX, a recent update removed all mentions of "Weapon Charms" from the game, which is unusual as references to other abandoned cosmetic types are still there. This could mean they're actually being prepped for a future release further down the line, along with the long-awaited Fortnite first person mode which would actually make weapon charms much more visible.

Fortnite are working on a new "Picture-in-Picture" feature where you can link your Fortnite account to some platforms and watch (+ Like, Unlike & Report) videos while playing ‼️This also has an "Advert" widget (maybe ads?), and one of the platforms might be TikTok 👀 pic.twitter.com/ChyUDsDegR April 10, 2024

HYPEX also confirms that Epic are working on a new "Picture-in-Picture" mode, which should allow you to link your Fortnite account to other platforms so you can watch videos while playing the game. One of the suggested platforms is TikTok, and you can Like, Unlike, and Report the videos you view.

FORTNITE OG NEWS ‼️After Fortnite announced that "Fortnite OG" will return in 2024, today they revealed that they wanna bring it back with a different twist than last time.. "It's just a matter of how and when, and how do we make it so it's not just the same." [VIA @axios] pic.twitter.com/PIVcO8NonU December 9, 2023

Finally, Epic have previously confirmed that Fortnite OG will be returning at some point during 2024. They've been quoted saying that "It's just a matter of how and when, and how do we make it so it's not just the same." This implies that it may come back in a format other than a short season, but for now we'll have to wait and see what gets announced in the future.

How much will the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass cost?

A stack of V-Bucks coins that could be used to buy the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass

Fortnite is free to play, but buying the Battle Pass will get you lots of additional rewards. The Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass will likely be available for the usual 950 V-Bucks, which means it will be enough to purchase the smallest V-Bucks bundle in the Fortnite store, priced at $8.99 / £6.99 to get you 1,000 V-Bucks.

It's possible to get a head start by buying the Battle Bundle upgrade. This will get you to Tier 25 on the Battle Pass instantly. Doing so will cost you 2,800 V-Bucks, which you can get for $22.99 / £17.49 (2,500 V-Bucks, plus 300 for free).

If you don't want to spend any money, you can always try to get free Fortnite V-Bucks for the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass, but don't fall for online scams! If you choose to save up some V-Bucks, remember that you only need to collect 950 of them to unlock the next Fortnite Battle Pass starting in May 2024.

And that's all we know about Fortnite Season 3 in Chapter 5 for now, but keep checking back and we'll have all of the details as soon as they're revealed!
