Onboard, a walkway protected by high bulwarks gives access to all areas. Forward, the large bow sundeck can be converted into a chaise lounge come cocktail hour. Amidships, the spacious dinette is equipped with folding tables that can be set up for dinner parties or tucked away when not in use. You can also opt to add two collapsible side terraces to this deck to create more space and connection to the sea.

To the aft, the teak-covered swim platform can be fitted with a hydraulic system that helps with launching tenders and toys. Speaking of which, the garage is big enough to hold a tender of nearly seven feet. Also at the rear lie a pair of 440 hp Volvo Penta D6 sterndrive engines.

Inside, meanwhile, the open-plan living area sports rotating U-shaped sofas that can transform into a comfy double bed on demand. To the aft is a cabin with separate beds and a large bathroom with a separate shower. Invictus says the generous bulwarks resulted in “remarkable internal heights,” so the interior feels light and airy.

The first unit of the new TT420 was finished in the yard’s signature “Personal White,” though both the TT420 and the TT460 will later be available in a new “Vogue White” hue. A BOW MADE FOR AL FRESCO LIVING

The asymmetrical split-level layout of the bow is designed to maximize space for outdoor living. Up top is an ample cushioned sunbathing area while just below is a versatile al fresco lounge-come-dining zone with a six-person table surrounded by an inviting C-shaped divan.

WAVE WATCHING

The helm area is flanked by windows in the hull that sweep up to gunwale level, creating a visual connection with the exterior environment. This exciting design feature also places the pilot right amongst the action, in the heart of the wake at high speeds, with water rushing by on either side almost as though it were part of the boat’s structure.

VERSATILITY AT ITS UTMOST

The galley is fitted out with a fridge, washing machine, cooktop and plenty of storage. The dinette can be easily converted into a comfortable double bed, sectioned off from the galley by a curtain.

A COMFORT-CENTRIC PHILOSOPHY

The full-size bathroom has a separate closable shower. A generous window allows natural light to illuminate it.

OUR ADVANCED TOOLKIT

The high-performance patented Stepped ‘V’ Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) was developed by Michael Peters and incorporates a classic deep ‘V’ hull with two transverse steps and a central tunnel aft. It is this latter feature that sets it apart from other current stepped deep ‘V’s, with its shallow aft central tunnel increasing the longitudinal stability of the boat in high speed turns and adverse situations. The use of the SVVT hull on the Verve 42 represents the merging of cutting-edge hull forms with advanced outboard engine power and avant-garde concept design and styling. The combination of technologies culminates in a boat that boasts unmatchable performance, manoeuvrability and speed in its class and represents the largest and grandest SVVT pleasure boat available on the market.

Azimut’s pioneering use of carbon fiber lamination goes beyond pure performance. The Carbon Tech Generation offers expanded volumes onboard, while maintaining excellent dynamic stability and perfect handling. Preserving the yacht’s low center of gravity, the carbon fiber was focused on the upper parts of the yacht, lightening the laminated components by up to 30% and reducing the natural roll momentum up to 15%.

The Verve 42 can reach a top speed of 43 knots and cruises at 32 knots with three 400 hp Mercury outboard engines. It’s the ideal propulsion for dynamic and sporty yachts, such as the new Verve 42, with an unbeatable weight-to-power ratio. The pilot feels effortlessly in command with smooth handling and responsive controls. Low displacement is another important design objective accomplished thanks to this advanced solution.

• The Bali 4.2 has all the popular and successful trademarks expected of the Bali catamaran range. It has the huge open platform which provides a convertible indoor/outdoor living space using tilting “garage door” that lifts up into the ceiling. The convertible door is a unique feature on the Bali. When open, it look like a much bigger catamaran. The Bali 4.2 also features a door in the front of the salon that opens up onto the expansive forward cockpit. With the 4.2 Bali has adopted the newer trend of “Jack & Jill” bathrooms in the 4-cabin version which creates more space in the cabins. The big American-style refrigerator is another popular feature especially for families and liveaboards.
• The Lagoon 42 is one of the most popular models for cruising couples. She is a beefy and a very comfortable liveaboard catamaran with an oversized cockpit. The mast is centered in the salon which could be a deal breaker for some, but considering how many L42s we have sold, it does not seem to bother the people who own and adore them. The galley lacks storage, but there is space available to add cabinets and baskets. The cabins are ample with island beds and plenty of storage, particularly the owner’s cabin. It features the “Jack & Jill” bathrooms in the 4-cabin version, a great use of space.
• The Leopard 42 features all the popular and successful trademarks of the hugely successful Leopard 50. Like its big sister, it features the opening door to an intimate forward cockpit. The semi-raised helm station and “upper lounge area” is a very well done and a great feature for cruisers. It is luxuriously finished and all bunks are island berths that allow access from both sides. The forward-facing galley is well-designed.
• The Fountaine Pajot Astréa 42 is plush and comfortable catamaran with a well-appointed galley and sliding doors that open the salon up to the very big cockpit. The cabins are a nicely sized and spacious with island beds.

I have two specs that I would like to see on all four of these. The first is holding tank capacity. I find the holding tank capacity on most boats insufficient for live aboards. The other is air draft. The 42 foot and below range are ones that in the Southern US we have bridge anxiety. I would like to know if any of these have an ICW friendly mast option and what the height is.

In addition to Jay’s request… I would like to see some sort of price/performance/construction comparison too.

I’ve been a mono-hull sailor and live-aboard all of my life, but really am a novice with catamarans. I’m fairly familiar with the Leopard 44, having chartered them several times and really like them. I’m anxious to find out about what else is out there so I can make the best decision possible for my next boat. I’m really interested in a cat because I feel like I can sail a catamaran further into my later years then a mono hull.

Ron, I suggest you join the Bali Discussion if you can on the 27th of August [2020] on Zoom. Many of these questions will be answered during that discussion. As regards to your question about “price/performance/construction comparison” – I am not too sure what you want to know. I have added base prices in the comparison charts for all the models. The weight vs sail area (power) has some impact of course but for hulls of similar water length and hull shapes as these models have, performance for all four models will be similar, give or take a knot or so.

The standard version of the Dehler 42 features a large amount of storage space on the port side and offers a large island bed in the bow cabin. As an alternative, the bow can be outfitted with an own bathroom and double bed, and the back port-side room can be a third double cabin.

No Injuries Sustained During San Pedro Boat Fire

F ire destroyed a 40-foot boat docked at the San Pedro harbor Thursday, ultimately sinking the vessel, but no serious injuries were reported.

The fire occurred around 1:45 p.m. in Berth 42, and 40 arriving firefighters found the boat with active flames, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

It took 20 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the flames, which were prevented from spreading to nearby vessels.

“Unfortunately, the damage had already been done, and the vessel wound up sinking after the flames were extinguished,” Prange said in a statement.

Two people were assessed by paramedics at the scene, but both declined to be taken to a hospital.

What may have sparked the fire was unclear, and the cause was under investigation.
