May till October are the best months to cruise the shimmering Aegean and Mediterranean waters on a yacht charter. Yacht charter guests can expect here an average minimum temperature of 15 degrees from May, before peaking to 33 degrees in July and August. It still remains positively balmy come October, reaching up to 24 degrees, with comfortable sea temperatures averaging 25 degrees.

Göcek Yacht Charters

For booking most yacht charters, a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee is required upfront as a deposit to secure your chosen yacht. This is usually payable once the contract has been signed

Turkey is an increasingly popular superyacht destination, so yacht charter guests can rest assured that they will have boundless vessel options which will meet their budget criteria. 

Whatever type of vessel you ultimately choose, one thing to keep track of are the additional costs not included in the yacht charter base rate. For example, VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). This is usually 30% of the charter fee, and paid in advance. The APA covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

However, gulet charters usually have lower APAs. For personalized advice please consult your yacht charter broker.

However, capped fuel limits and air conditioning times are common to gulet yacht charters.

Yes, it is possible to visit Greece on a luxury Turkey yacht charter. However, additional VAT and fees may apply if venturing outside Turkish waters. It is also worth noting that for convenience, it can often be better to visit Turkey and then Greece or vice versa, rather than zig-zag between the two. That's because you will need to provide documentation every time you cross borders which can be time-consuming.

The charter season in Turkey runs from late April to October, with shoulder season months of April, May and October still enjoying warm, sunny weather and blissfully quiet cruising grounds.

Summer temperatures average between 26°C and 30°C but can soar well above 30°C during the peak months of July and August. Sea temperatures remain above 20°C from May to November, peaking at 26°C, making it a haven for watersports, snorkelling and scuba diving.

Turkey yacht charter itineraries

Yachts usually depart from Göcek, Bodrum or Marmaris. Göcek has multiple marinas with Skopea Marina accommodating yachts up 110 metres and D Marin Göcek accommodating craft up to 70 metres. Netsel Marmaris Marina has moorings for yachts up to 90 metres. Milta Bodrum Marina has moorings for yachts up to 100 metres.

Cruise 15 nautical miles from bustling Marmaris to the serenity of the Ekincik nature reserve, where clear cyan waters are backed by vertiginous slopes for a tranquil first stop. Take the tender up the Dalyan Çayı River to see the extraordinary Lycian tombs, the mud baths and the ancient ruins at Kaunos before cruising 25 nautical miles to one of Turkey’s most picturesque anchorages at Tersane Island.

A short hop from Tersane, the neighbouring bays around the chic harbour of Göcek offer plentiful heavenly spots to drop the anchor. Charter yachts can moor in Göcek or overnight in the hidden paradise of Yassica Adalari, a necklace of emerald islands that lie off the glittering Göcek coast.

Cove hop around Yassica Adalari before making the 10 nautical mile trip to the traditional town of Fethiye, where the ruins of the ancient city of Telmessos await. Fethiye’s Ece Marina can accommodate yachts up to 60 metres. The famous sapphire lagoon of Olu Deniz lies 15 nautical miles south and is framed by vertiginous mountains. From there, make the 100 nautical mile overnight passage to Didim’s long sandy beaches and the nearby ruins of the Temple of Apollo. D Marin Didim offers berths up to 70 metres.

For a change of pace, the upmarket town of Türkbükü, synonymous with Turkish elite and celebrities, lies 20 nautical miles across the azure gulf. There is no dockage in the town so you can either anchor out or you can leave your yacht at the nearby Yalikavak Marina (moorings up to 140 metres). Departing Türkbükü, charterers can explore the Turkish Riviera, cruising 30 nautical miles to fun-filled Bodrum and on to the secluded coves of Datça, the Greek island of Symi, and the dive sites and cruising havens of Fethiye, Göcek and Olu Deniz.

Getting to Turkey

Commercial airlines and private jets operate from Izmir, Antalya, Dalaman and Milas-Bodrum airports. Göcek is a 25-minute drive from Dalaman airport.

Charters may use Turkey as a jumping-off point to explore the Dodecanese and the south-eastern Aegean.

• Myra Ruins. Myra was once home to St. Nicholas, and it is now an open-air museum and archaeological site. Located in Antalya, Turkey, Myra is located in the modern-day town of Demre.
• Gulf of Gokova. An incredibly colorful area on the south coast of the Bodrum peninsula.
• Manavgat Waterfalls. A beautiful waterfall on the Manavgat River is formed by the meandering Manavgat River.
• Butterfly Valley (KelebeklerVadisi). Turkey’s valley of the butterflies is is a long, narrow valley located at the foot of Turkey’s Babadağ Mountain opening onto the Mediterranean Sea. It is only accessible by boat.
• Kekova Island. Kekova is Turkey’s largest island in the Mediterranean. There are many interesting places to see, such as the ruins of Simena and Teimussa and the ruins of the ancient cities of Aperlai and Dolihiste (a sunken city).

Simena Castle

Located in the isolated village of Kalekoy, which is only accessible by boat, the largely intact Simena Castle looks out from the mainland over the beautiful Turquoise Coast. This is a great day trip and home to some of the best ice cream in the region.

Iztuzu Beach (Turtle Beach)

Located near Dalyan, with crystal clear waters and a beautiful sandy beach, it’s not hard to see why Iztuzu Beach is so popular. It is lovely and gets its nickname from being the breeding ground for the endangered loggerhead sea turtles. Between May and September, the beach is closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. to conserve the area for turtle breeding. However, it’s possible to visit during the day.

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus in Bodrum

This was a tomb built between 353 and 350 BC for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and Artemisia II of Caria, his wife and sister. The Mausoleum was known for its architectural beauty and size, making it one of the Seven Wonders. Although it was destroyed by successive earthquakes in the Middle Ages, today, visitors can still see its ruins in Bodrum, offering a glimpse into its past grandeur.

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

Although Ephesus is slightly north of what is traditionally considered the Turkish Riviera, it’s close enough to be relevant for travelers exploring the broader region. Possibly the most dumbest question on the internet! I’m coming from Australia (first time overseas) where we have stunning beaches everywhere, never have I ever seen sun lounges and umbrellas to rent – it’s unheard of. Do you have to rent them to use the beach or can you just rock up with your towel and sit wherever you like? How do you know what’s a private beach and what isn’t? (Private beaches belonging to resorts in Australia are uncommon).

Your question is not dumb at all! It’s quite reasonable, especially for someone traveling overseas for the first time. Beach cultures and norms can vary significantly from one country to another.

It’s quite common in Europe to have sun lounges and umbrellas available for rent at the beach. However, you’re not obligated to rent these. You can absolutely bring your own towel and find a spot to relax. Just remember many beaches are pebbly so that rental chair might be nice.

As for identifying private beaches, they are usually well-marked. I hope this helps and have a fantastic trip!

Hello! Is mid April an ok time to visit the Riveira? Is there buses that easily connect each village?

Sure! People live here all year, just remember that there will be lots of things not open. Eg beach bars, and some activities won’t be available. Buses operate all year as locals use them. Enjoy.

When to go?

Turkey has a longer season than most of the Mediterranean from early Mary to early November.  During this time, the weather is warm with minimal rainfall.  The Meltemi winds blowing from the northwest offer consistent and reliable breezes, creating enjoyable sailing though the Meltemi winds can pick up during the early afternoons. 

During the sailing season (May through September) long days of sunshine are perfect for water activities, exploring the coastline, and visiting the historical sites and charming towns.  The Turkish Riviera has a typical Mediterranean climate with temperatures ranging from 70-95F and sea temperatures hovering between 72-79F. Keep in mind that the summer months of July and August can be particularly hot; the other sailing months may offer a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.  Sailing conditions from May to November are ideal for sailing. 

The Turkish Riviera’s unique cultural aspects, coupled with its stunning natural beauty and historical sites, make it an enchanting destination.  The Turkish Riviera is dotted with well -preserved ancient ruins from civilizations like the Lycians, Greeks, and Romans. These archaeological sites, such as Ephesus, Patara, and Xanthos, provide a glimpse into the region’s rich historical past. The Lycian civilization left behind an impressive legacy of rock-cut tombs carved into cliffs and mountain sides. These burial sites, such as the ones in Dalyan and Myra, showcase the unique architectural style and beliefs of the Lycians .

How to get there?

There are several bases in the Turkish Riviera:  Bodrum, Fethiye, Gocek, and Marmaris. There are two main airports to fly into:  Bodrum Millas Airport (BJV) and Dalaman Airport (DLM) (for charters starting in Marmaris, Fethiye, or Gocek).  Both Bodrum Milas Airport and Dalaman Airport are well-connected to major European cities and other international destinations.  Upon arrival, you can get a taxi, hire a private transfer, or many charter companies offer shuttle services during the main sailing season.  Alternatively, you may choose to take a ferry from one of the nearby Greek islands.
