Renderings of 26m in-build yacht Vismara VM 80 Unveiled

Vismara VM 80

The Italian yard has unveiled new renderings for the 26-meter yacht, the Vismara VM 80 . The sailing yacht has been in-build at the Viareggio shipyard since 2021 where the project’s carbon sandwich hull and deck structure were laminated.

A six-handed project by Vismara in collaboration with the designers Lucio Micheletti, as regards the interiors and styling.

The hull of the boat is built entirely of carbon sandwich, the deck is covered in teak.

A retractable keel with a draft of 2.50 meters is installed for navigating in shallow seas and entering the port by the motor; and 4 m for offshore sailing.

Vismara VM 80

Vismara VM 80 is defined by a classic raised deckhouse and twin steering positions that form part of a large social cockpit at the stern. In terms of sailing features, VM 80 comes with a retractable keel, lifting from 4 meters to 2.5 meters when entering shallow ports or cruising areas under power. The full carbon mast supports a total sail area of 280 square meters.

dufour-520-GL-sail-universe

The maneuvers are all reported aft on the 4 electric winches positioned in front of the double wheelhouse to which comfortable sundeck chairs have been added, designed for long voyages.

On deck we find a large cockpit divided into two areas with a double L-shaped sofa and two large folding dining tables for dining al fresco.

Going down the stairs and entering inside we find ourselves in front of a large dinette with an L-shaped sofa and table on the left side; on the right a second sofa, TV, and chart table.

Towards the stern, on the right side next to the sofa, is the kitchen, consisting of: tilting gas burners, fridge, oven, dishwasher, sink and large countertop.

Continuing after the kitchen is the sailor’s cabin: bunk bed, wardrobe, and a private bathroom with shower. On the opposite side, there is a guest cabin with a double bed, large wardrobe, and bathroom with a shower.

The engine room, with a double 120hp sail drive engine installed, is located under the dinette.

Vismara VM 80

A large electric opening hatch has been mounted on the transom which can accommodate a tender of 3 m in length, and also acts as a swimming platform for when you are comfortably stationary in the harbor.

The interiors of the Vismara VM 80 are spacious and very bright thanks to the large hull windows and a second window on the deckhouse that allows you to look around 180 degrees while comfortably seated on the sofa.

All rooms are ventilated from the outside through the different hatches positioned on the deck.

Two air conditioning and heating systems are also installed to be able to experience the boat both in summer and in winter in maximum comfort.

Vismara VMM76: High speed sailing even in light winds

  • Toby Hodges
  • February 2, 2021

This new design is a collaboration between Mark Mills, Lucio Micheletti and Vismara and is a lightweight, easily handled yacht of a size that can offer fantastic accommodation, along with startling performance when pushed

vismara yacht design

The Vismara VMM76 is a powerful beast of a boat, which was conceived to offer high-speed sailing alongside civilised living and bags of style.

It’s the result of a collaborative development programme between Mark Mills, who was responsible for the hull shape, Lucio Micheletti for styling and interiors, plus Vismara’s in-house design team.

The project is for a very experienced owner who gets a lot of pleasure from being fully involved in sailing the boat. “The intention was to create a very good all-round performance cruiser, with a Mediterranean focus,” says Mills.

“That’s always a bit of a balancing act, but this boat is as friendly in light airs as possible for a very well equipped cruiser, and the sail plan will also work really well for power reaching in a breeze.”

The hull has a very modern, powerful shape. Within the confines of providing volume below decks, including space for a large tender garage, the stern sections have a relatively low wetted surface area at rest, so the boat doesn’t need 15 knots of breeze to get going properly.

At the same time, the topsides chine gives very powerful stern sections that dig in to provide additional stability when the boat is heeled.

vismara yacht design

Key sail controls are taken to four electric winches ahead of the helm stations, so it can be comfortably handled by a small crew when offshore.

Construction is of carbon sandwich and a lot of effort has gone into minimising weight. As a result displacement is a whopping 11.5 tonnes lighter than the Swan 78, for instance.

Nevertheless even the briefest of glances at the teak deck, large guest cockpit and helm seats that convert to sunbeds make it clear this is no stripped-out racer.

Below decks there’s a fully fitted interior with three guest cabins, plus a forward owner’s suite and crew accommodation. A lifting keel reduces the 4m draught to just 2.5m, which opens up a wide range of anchorages. Mills says this is, “a critical solution to offer the necessary stability, without the usual increase in displacement.”

7 Superyachts Designed by Famous Architects

By Katherine McLaughlin

Two white yachts facing each other

Earlier this year, residents began moving into Brooklyn’s newest and most expensive condo building: Olympia Brooklyn . Located in DUMBO, the 33-story structure, designed by Hill West Architects, is just the latest in the borough’s ever-evolving skyline. However, unlike other neighboring high rises that reach into the sky, Olympia is shaped like an unfurled sail, appearing ready to cut through the nearby East River any second.

The building is yet another example that architects, particularly modern ones, love nautical themes. Le Corbusier was deeply inspired by ocean liners and wrote about them in his 1923 book, Towards a New Architecture; Frank Gehry cited sails as a reference point when designing the Guggenheim Bilbao; Santiago Calatrava ’s Milwaukee Art Museum is shaped like a boat ready to coast into Lake Michigan; and even Frank Lloyd Wright—who only designed one coastal home—used the opportunity to create a house shaped like a ship’s bow.

It’s no surprise, then, that many architects have also turned their attention to yacht and ship design in recent years. But just how do their creative tendencies transfer from skyscrapers and cities to the nautical and maritime? Below AD looks at seven superyachts designed by architects to help answer that question.

Unique Circle Yachts, Zaha Hadid

Rengering of an white organic superyacht

Perhaps one of Zaha Hadid ’s greatest strengths was her ability to make nearly anything she touched instantly recognizable as her own. And nothing proves this more than the group of five superyachts the architect designed in 2013. Featuring bold, white curves and organic lines, the design is classic Hadid—only in nautical form. “Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality, and safety,” Hadid said in a press release at the time of the boats’ debuts. The architect worked with German shipbuilding and engineering firm Blohm+Voss, which brought boating-specific technical expertise to the project.

YachtPlus Fleet, Norman Foster

7 Superyachts Designed by Famous Architects

Though yachts may appear to be a relatively newer fascination among architects, Norman Foster has been working on them for years. He began taking on naval projects in 1993, though he has most recently completed three superyachts— Ocean Emerald, Ocean Pearl and Ocean Sapphire —as part of a series of yachts known as The YachtPlus Fleet . Similar to a time share, eight buyers share ownership of the boats and are granted a total of 30 days per year onboard. Each ship is made from aluminum alloy and feature spacious cabins for maximum comfort.

Kirribilli, Renzo Piano

Working with Vismara Yacht Design, Renzo Piano and Emanuela Baglietto (an architect employed at his firm) designed the 60-feet monohull Kirribilli . Launched in 2001, the sailing boat features deliberate minimalism and simplicity—an homage to racing yachts of the 1930s. The flush deck complements the topsides of the vessel, which were originally painted emerald green but are now white.

Foggy, Frank Gehry

Completed

Foggy, as this yacht is called, got its name from the designer’s initials: F-O-G, for Frank Owen Gehry. Though it may sound a little self-indulgent, it makes sense when one learns who the client was—Gehry himself. According to Dezeen , Gehry is an avid sailer and often often draws inspiration from sails when designing buildings—besides the Guggenheim Bilbao, take Foundation Louis Vuitton as another example. Working with naval architect Germán Frers, the sloop is made from larch wood with a glass lattice work on the deck. “I never had the resources before, and once I did I was busy doing my buildings,” the architect told Town & Country in 2015, speaking on his lifelong dream of designing a boat finally coming to fruition.

Until recently, it was assumed that the Unique Circle Yachts were Hadid’s only nautical designs throughout her career. However, in early January of this year, it was announced that the architect had also worked with Vitruvius Yachts to design a new ship for the British Royal Family. Though the project, which was originally put into motion by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has now been called off, it’s exciting to see what could have been. “All design contributors were keen to capture the essence of UK heritage and embrace a forward-thinking and innovative approach to the design of the flagship with sustainability at the core,” Vitruvius’s website states .

B60 Sloop, John Pawson

Known for his minimalist take on design, John Pawson’s stark white sailboat, called B60 Sloop , sits firmly within his design vernacular. The vessel is a result of a collaboration with Milan-based yacht designer Luca Brenta, and it features a 60-foot carbon fiber hull and two striking white sails. “The project’s functional goal is to create the ultimate day-racing yacht, built for recreational rather than competitive purposes, but with the highest levels of manoeuvrability,” Pawson shared in Dezeen in 2008.

Oneiric Catamaran, Zaha Hadid Architects

7 Superyachts Designed by Famous Architects

Representing the latest offering from Hadid’s design firm, architects at Zaha Hadid Architects recently unveiled concept renderings for Oneiric, a proposed catamaran in collaboration with Italian shipyard Rossinavi. Powered by green technology, the boat features three levels of solar panels and an AI-driven control center that manages energy consumption. “The serenity on board is visual as well as auditory,” the firm said in a press release. “Oneiric’s full-electric mode is capable of silent operations.”

AMERICA'S CUP

The new 46' racer/cruiser is the result of collaboration between Vismara Yacht Design and Farr Yacht Design.

A careful research was carried out for this sailing boat in order to optimise her rating for the IRC class rules. For this reason, both design offices have analysed the principal characteristics of different vessels, which are racing under the IRC rules at the moment.

Farr Yacht Design have developed different hull shapes, appendages and sail plans, while Vismara Yacht Design developed the materials specification, the interiors and the deck layout and carefully analysed the racing conditions in the Mediterranean Sea in order to optimize the performance.

This new racer/cruiser results particular against the IMS class and the mass production boats such as X-Yachts and Grand Soleil:

- The hull lines are wider at stern and higher sides to obtain a longer dynamic waterline

- It has a large sail area of 126 m 2

-  It has a high stability index, with a keel weight of 4800 kg

- The boat is made of vacuum bagged E-glass and carbon/epoxy sandwich in order to obtain a very light vessel

Not only the performance of the boat was carefully studied for the IRC class but also his interiors. The vessel has three comfortable double cabins and a forward toilet (another one can be added on request). The interiors layout is symmetric and it was studied to be easily transformed from a single wide-open space during racing to more private areas during cruising.

The interiors style is typical of the Vismara sailing boats. It's warm and welcoming but at the same time very modern, mixing the composite materials of the hull and bulkheads to ‘Tanganica’ plywood panels in order to obtain the effect of separation between structures and furniture, even if every panel has an important role in the overall structure. In this way the boat results much lighter but also robust.

The boat was constructed by Marine Services boatyard in Viareggio (Italy) and was launched at the beginning of Summer 2006.

Vismara 50 Mills

The Vismara 50 Mills is our third collaboration with the progressive Italian yard Vismara Marine .   This high performance cruiser was created for experienced clients with a racing background who spend extended periods cruising in the Mediterranean every year.  Drawn with a focus equally on performance and comfortable cruising, the owners played an active role in developing the detail of ‘Big Star’.  The bright interiror is finished in a very clean minimalist style to produce a modern yacht above decks and below.  Performance is the result of the carbon construction keeping displacement to the minimum, a deep fin keel allowing the bulb to add stability, and a sizable but easy-to-handle sailplan providing the horsepower.

New Cape Coral Yacht Club designs: Most on council like a coastal, Key West vibe

vismara yacht design

Given three different design options for the new Yacht Club Community Center , most of the Cape Coral City Council is leaning toward a coastal, Key West-flavor architecture.

At a committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday, the city sought direction from the council on a design direction for the outside of the community building.

"It's a concept, just like we do with anything else, and as we are designing, things may come up that we want to shift and be nimble (on)," said Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn.

James Pankonin with Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, presented the information about the look of the community building.

Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park, which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has been a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s but is set to undergo major renovations after Hurricane Ian delayed the original plans .

The current plans include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.

The city is also preparing for the demolition of the Yacht Club and its facilities in April as it awaits permits.

No estimates could be provided for the price of the new building.

"It will really come into how much of certain materials are needed and construction methods," Ilczyszyn said.

The city will have that information once they have 30% of the construction design.

Two public meetings for the designs are planned for April 2 and May 7.

After getting public input, the city will vote to amend its contract with Kimley Horn to approve all these changes.

The plan is to have these changes approved or introduced before the summer hiatus.

New Designs for the Yacht Club building

John Bryant with Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors, a Sarasota-based design firm, said the goal with the new designs was to maintain the experience of the original Yacht Club.

The majority of the council preferred option one.

Design one:

Bryant described the first option as "coastal vernacular" and similar to the park buildings at Lake Kennedy and Yellow Fever Creek.

"So it's sort of informed by the current architectural work in 2024," Bryant said. "Kinda Key West."

Councilmember Dan Sheppard and Mayor John Gunter preferred option one.

Gunter said the design was the most pleasing for him.

Councilmember Keith Long liked option one and said he liked the Key West aesthetic.

Councilmember Tom Hayden liked option one.

Design two:

Option two is more informed by the current Yacht Club and would have a stone base and mid-century feel to it, according to Bryant.

"There's certainly opportunity to kind of further develop this option to have even more of the existing Yacht Club feel, but a different vibe, feel than option one," Bryant said.

He also said option two might be more expressive the closer they try to recreate the aesthetic of the old ballroom building.

Councilmember Jessica Cosden liked design two as it incorporated design elements of the old building though she lamented how similar it looked to the first design.

"I wish we could have done more, but I know it's hard with a two-story building, to make it look the same as a very unique one-story building.

Councilmember Bill Steinke said two would be his choice as well, but was wary of additional maintenance of natural wood products used in the design.

"As long as we can bring that aesthetic and keep the maintenance down, number two would be my choice," Steinke said.

Councilmember Robert Welsh said he could go either way, but he liked the look of two.

Design three:

This would be more contemporary and modern.

"Even with a more contemporary language, you can still have warmth, incorporating some wood elements and stone elements," Bryant said.

None of the council members expressed any favorability for the third design.

Inside the new community center

The Community Center will have an additional 10,000 square feet for a total of 47,000 square feet, a history room to remember the first ballroom building on the first floor, and more rooms for civic and community use on the first floor.

Additionally, the new ballroom has shifted slightly as the balcony area on the second floor has been expanded to wrap around the top of the building.

I live in Moscow and by experience they have very good scenery either via Avsimrus or by their Vatsim page. As for translation, google is pretty useful provided you go from Russian to English, and not other languages. I am French, and Russian to french is not that good.

That said, from Avsimrus, if you download direct the scenery, then your computer is not going to be able to read the read me files. You have to view the content before, open the read me file, my computer is set up to translate automatically Russian to English, and then ctrl c / ctrl v the translated text into a new notepad window and you are done.

Some of their sceneries require to modify some original P3D files, so I recommend to back up and add at the end of the backup the 4 ICAO id letters to remember whose belongs to whom.
