Majestic, stately and refined, ROMEA is a yacht like no other

Step aboard this state-of-the-art terence tisdale-designed megayacht, offered for charter through imperial yachts.

Words: Jonathan Wells

In association with:

Imperial Yachts

RoMEA is smooth — in every sense of the word. In her looks, she epitomises the ideals of effortless luxury. With her power, she achieves an evasive blend of swiftness, grace and stability. To us, this makes her the ultimate megayacht ; a waterborne bastion of class and tranquility.

Designed by sought-after naval architect Terence Tisdale, RoMEA’s simple yet sophisticated lines look equally at home cruising open waters as they do calmly navigating Scandinavian fjords or anchored at voguish Riviera ports. And these sweeping external designs are only the beginning.

yacht romea owner

Step aboard and you’ll find yourself transported to a new level of aesthetic refinement. Tisdale’s eye can also be seen inside the yacht — the designer lending his considerable talents to both the exterior and interior design of RoMEA, who is now available to charter through Imperial Yachts .

From grand saloons to elegant lounges, the 82-metre megayacht boasts areas fit for every mood and function. Yet, despite the larger spaces for entertaining sitting beside intimate refuges, every room and cabin flows into the next with a sense of balanced serenity — a testament to Tisdale’s talents.

yacht romea owner

Much of this consistency can be attributed to RoMEA’s exotic, exclusive decoration. On board, fine bronze fittings are intertwined with panels of glass, expert stonework is employed to bring texture to rooms and furniture is meticulously crafted from rich leather and tropical woods. And these fabrics blend together to speak the common language of RoMEA, joining the vessel’s cabins and corridors to create a smooth, lyrical environment in which to relax.

It’s a language that translates across a collection of dining areas, saloons, bedrooms, studies and even a cinema — not to mention pools, sundecks, observation decks and an al fresco dining area complete with barbecue.

yacht romea owner

Completed in 2015 by renowned German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen, Imperial supervised the build and acted as owner’s representative during the whole production process, before becoming RoMEA’s manager and charter central agent. She has a cruising speed of 14 knots and an quietly impressive range of almost 6,000 nautical miles. Not only that, the amenities on board afford guests a comfortable home-from-home.

Not only can you catch the latest blockbusters on the aforementioned cinema, but you can also sharpen up your musical skills on the grand piano, detox in the Finnish sauna or visit the onboard oasis that is the Bridge deck spa.

The water toy-box is also well-stocked. If relaxing isn’t your thing, why not hop aboard the 5.9-metre sports tender, 8.5-metre beach lander or 9.6-metre limousine to explore the local area? Or stay closer to RoMEA’s sleek hull, and sail the on-board Laser Pico sailboat, water ski or take out one of four jet skis.

yacht romea owner

Whatever you choose, when you finally do retire back to the boat, RoMEA will continue to charm you with her intricate details and decorations. For this is truly where this vessel comes alive — in the bespoke, original works or art and beautiful handcrafted elements. These touches promise to enchant and enthral you during your time on board; elegant, worldly and, above all, smooth.

This summer, RoMEA is cruising the Mediterranean, before sailing off to the Indian Ocean for winter. Click below to find out how you can charter.

By Editorial Team   1 September 2015

The impressive 82m/266ft superyacht ROMEA has been announced as the newest addition to the global charter fleet and will soon be available for the ‘charter of the decade' in the West Mediterranean.

Delivered by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in June of this year, ROMEA (previously known as ‘Project Dartwo is one of the largest new additions to the charter market at over 80 metres. Packed into her 81 metres is a considerable amount of luxury, with standout features including an indoor and outdoor cinema, Zero Speed Stabilizers, a main saloon spa and a large Beach Club complete with a sauna and Jacuzzi.

She is the sister ship to fellow 82m/266ft yacht KIBO , famous for her ‘timeless’ Terence Disdale interior and lack of spa-tub or swimming pool, which earned her the Holistic Design Award at the 2015 Showboats Design Awards.

In early July, a first detailed look at ROMEA could be enjoyed, as she was spotted cruising the Isle of Man with superyacht Aquila – in the area following crossing the Atlantic.

With sleek exterior styling by the multi-award winning Terence Disdale, she features an aluminium superstructure and four decks appointed with al fresco dining areas, several comfy sunbathing spots and a Jacuzzi on her sundeck.

He is also responsible for her motor yacht ROMEA’S striking interior, which sleeps as many as 12-14 guests in six staterooms, including a full-beam master suite with his and hers dressing rooms, a VIP stateroom forward, two double and two twin cabins, with one Pullman berth. All cabins feature the latest entertainment systems, with a central elevator providing easy access to all her floors up to sundeck.

An extensive range of water toys are also available to guests on board, with highlights including Seabobs, jet-skis, windsurfers, kayaks and state-of-the-art scuba diving equipment.

Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she has a cruising speed of 14 knots, and will offer a top speed 16 knots, with a range of 4500.00 nm. She has a gross tonnage of 2,300 GRT.

M/Y ROMEA is currently located in the French Riviera, following a visit to Ibiza. For more details on the availability of this superyacht, please contact your preferred charter broker .

Superyacht Concepts

Among the most outrageous yachts ever built, Sailing Yacht A and Yas are top of the list. The polarizing designs are defined by their exteriors— A for its fortress aesthetic and the former navy frigate Yas for its dolphin-like appearance. Love them or loathe them, they break from conventional yacht design and show what can be done with a little fresh thinking. That’s exactly what concepts are intended to do, and some of the world’s most outrageous examples take it to the extreme.

“Yacht concepts drive human evolution in maritime adventure,” says Micca Ferrero, owner of ICON Yachts . “It is one of the oldest and purest forms of work, as humans have been preparing to take to the sea for centuries in search of a better world. Each concept carries a small part of our future at sea.”

But the concepts have gone beyond simple sea vessels. From the Airyacht, with its detachable upper blimp structure, to U-Boat Worx’s Nautilus that can travel underwater at 10 knots, superyachts are no longer limited to the surface. Shape, size, amenities and propulsion are all up for grabs, and some of the most eyebrow-raising examples pave the way for the yachts of tomorrow.

Here are 10 of our favorite outrageous yacht concepts ever launched.

Pangeos — The World’s Largest Floating Structure

yacht romea owner

Italian design studio Lazzarini is known for its far-fetched ideas, which include a swan-shaped yacht and floating seaports. Pangeos is its interpretation of the world’s largest floating structure. The 1,800-foot-long “terayacht” (which also measures 2,000 feet across at its widest point) is named after Pangea, a supercontinent that existed 335 million years ago. This Pangea is estimated to accommodate 60,000 guests. The premise is an emissions-free city that can sail around the world. Designed in the shape of a giant turtle clad in solar panels, the concept includes multiple structures with a rooftop shopping mall, restaurants, and houses. There are also gardens, pools, and a large beach club, as well as helipads, hangars and marinas to store helicopters, toys, and tenders. Pangeos is powered by nine electric motors of 16,800 hp each, with the “wings” drawing more power from the waves and wind. Lazzarini estimates the build cost would be $8 billion.

VY.01 — Standout Feature: Indoor Garden

yacht romea owner

Gardens and superyachts don’t typically mix. It can be challenging to keep plants alive at sea since gardening requires substantial care and resources. But that didn’t stop German architects 3deluxe from penning VY.01 , a low carbon-emission superyacht concept with a greenhouse and vegetable garden. Billed as a “paradisiacal biotope,” the concept catamaran focuses on onboard self-sufficiency. In addition to a hydrogen fuel-cell system and electric propulsion, the vessel has solar panels on the rooftop to generate clean energy for the seawater desalination system that provides water for the plants. Other features include large deck spaces, open-plan living, a saltwater pool, and a mini marina for tenders and toys.

Domus — Standout Feature: An Experimental Open Plan Layout

yacht romea owner

This 131-foot-long solar sailing trimaran by Rob Doyle Design and Van Geest has 8,500 square feet of interior space, more than double the volume of other yachts with similar lengths. Domus , meaning a single-story home divided into two parts, is defined by a flat and wide superstructure, containing multiple guest areas that lead to a central atrium. The full-beam design is spread across two decks, with two owner’s suites that each have adjoining salons. There is also a cinema, gym, spa, and pool. When sailing, Domus will be able to heel at an angle of two degrees to reduce drag while also guaranteeing a comfortable guest experience with minimal rolling. It also uses a combination of solar power, hydro-regeneration technology, and hydrogen fuel cells for unlimited range and zero emissions. If that’s not enough, it’s fitted with a sail for extra wind power.

EXPV — Standout Feature: Floating Glass Walkway Connecting Two Deckhouses

yacht romea owner

Over the years, Feadship has developed engineered yacht concepts that not only bring something new to yacht design, but also are ready to be built. The 285-foot EXPV , which the Dutch yard developed in collaboration with British studio Harrison Eidsgaard, is an explorer with a difference. The vessel has two deckhouses connected by a suspended glass walkway that separates the private owner’s quarters from the guest areas. The full-beam owner’s apartment, measuring 44 feet across, has an observation room, a helideck, and a private foredeck sun lounge. The other six guest cabins face the sea. On the lower deck, the beach club has folding platforms on both sides, an indoor swimming pool, and a skylight. A tender deck is located directly below. The mast holds a two-person pod that travels above the radar domes for exceptional views. The yacht also has hybrid diesel-electric propulsion.

Cantharus — Standout Feature: Underwater Lounge

yacht romea owner

Cantharus is about being immersed in nature. American designer Darin Osborne’s Cantharus is a vessel with unrestricted views of the ocean, above and below deck, to encourage guests to be at one with their surroundings. The 226-foot concept has an underwater lounge and office amidship that converts into an owner’s cabin. The space holds a piano, formal dining table, and entertainment system. More panoramic vistas are on the upper bridge. On the main deck aft, there is a Jacuzzi that doubles as a stage, and a bar and DJ booth. At night, underwater lights illuminate the ocean, shining a spotlight on the behemoths of the deep.

Galileo² — Standout Feature: A Private Marina

yacht romea owner

Described as the “catamaran that costs $500 billion to build,” the 656-foot Galileo² stretches the imagination in all directions. German naval architects Beiderbeck Designs, whose most notable builds include the 305-foot Eos and 233-foot Skat , conceived the multihull during the pandemic. It was clearly ahead of its time. Equipped with a methanol powerplant, it also has a 19,000-nautical-mile range, a retractable restaurant, and a 262-foot pier for the 38 guests to take walks at sea. Along with 75 crew, the yacht has a private marina with 260 feet of dock space—enough for 25 boats, submersibles, and toys. Other key features include an outdoor cinema, a hospital, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Phoenicia — Standout Feature: Articulated Helipad

yacht romea owner

Igor Lobanov’s sailing concept Phoenicia catches the eye with a reverse bow, a raised bowsprit, and an Arabian-inspired cutout on the superstructure that casts shadows across the yacht’s exterior decks. Even more dramatic are the masts on the main deck behind a glass-walled gallery. The yacht, a bridge between old and new, fuses a large traditional sail rig with an articulated helipad that unfolds from the roof of the owner’s suite. At night, 33 laser lights shine into the water, giving the impression that the yacht has two decks of oars.

Project L — Standout Feature: An Underwater Glass-Encased Owner’s Suite

yacht romea owner

French designer Thierry Gauguin is a long-time collaborator of Philippe Starck, with projects that include Venus , the 260-foot Feadship built for Steve Jobs. His ultra-modern 394-foot concept Project L is his first solo design. Conceived for long, oceangoing passages with diesel-electric propulsion, it is fitted out with a glass-encased underwater owner’s suite at the bow. The bullet-like exterior blends the naval architecture of a sailing vessel with motoryacht convenience. Outdoor deck areas are limited to the small sun deck and an extendable beach club at the stern, both of which have pools. Yet the design also includes a dinghy bay, a heliport, a car garage, and even an underwater escape pod for Bond-like exits.

Ocean Odyssey — Standout Feature: A 590-Foot Running Track

yacht romea owner

Penned by Italian designer Marco Casali as part of his 2020 “Owner for a Day” initiative, the 360-foot Ocean Odyssey is a floating hub of operations based on features requested by a yachting journalist. The vessel is defined by a two-level glass superstructure, which conceals a high-tech media center and a signature 590-foot running track. Its two-level stern works as a swimming pool (with lounges) on the upper-level beach club), as well as a private port to accommodate a custom 50-foot tender in a floating slip. More seating is found on the foredeck and bridge deck, while a helipad on the top deck allows for easy guest transfer anywhere in the world.

Protean 95 — Standout Feature: An Adaptive Platform

yacht romea owner

The 312-foot Protean 95 is all about flexibility. Designed by Dutch studio CBSPRO Maritime to meet a variety of owners’ needs, it can be used as a support vessel, an explorer yacht, or a mothership for sportfishing tournaments and sailing regattas. The hybrid electric yacht can also serve as a floating laboratory and research vessel for oceanographic expeditions, helped by its 8,000-nautical-mile range. The open aft deck is a multifaceted heli-facility that can accommodate an 18-passenger helicopter. It also has a helipad, under-deck equipment hangar, and refueling area, as well as space for a submersible, multiple tenders and other pleasure craft. Amenities for the 20 guests include a spa, gym, cinema, and pool.

Motor yacht crew face criminal charges over Greek island fire allegedly started by firework display

  • Copy Link copied

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A Greek prosecutor on Sunday brought criminal charges against the captain and crew of a chartered yacht suspected of triggering a forest fire on a resort island in the Aegean Sea during a firework display.

Greece has been plagued in recent days by scores of wildfires amid hot, dry and windy weather. On the day of the blaze authorities had warned of a maximum fire risk in several areas, appealing to the public for extreme caution.

The blaze on a remote stretch of coastline on the popular island of Hydra, 40 nautical miles (46 miles) south of Athens, destroyed about 75 acres of pine forest late Friday.

The crew of the large motor yacht, which had allegedly been anchored just off where the fire started with 17 tourists on board, were arrested Saturday when they docked near Athens. The tourists were not detained or charged.

State-run ERT television said the captain of another yacht anchored nearby told authorities that the blaze was started by fireworks let off by from the suspects’ vessel on Friday evening.

A prosecutor in the port of Piraeus, which serves Athens, on Sunday ordered the 13 suspects to be held in custody pending their appearance before an investigating judge.

ERT said they were charged under stricter legislation adopted recently and would face sentences of 10-20 years in prison if convicted.

Greece suffers every summer from destructive wildfires that have drastically reduced its forest cover, caused scores of deaths, and burnt homes and property.

Authorities warned of a particularly high risk this summer following a warm, dry winter that has left vegetation tinder-dry.

The fire service said Sunday evening that 41 wildfires broke out all over the country in the past 24 hours.

The blaze on Hydra was extinguished after several hours by firefighters brought by boat to the spot, which is uninhabited and not easily accessible by land.

Jerry Jones’ Yacht: A Look at the Dallas Cowboys Owner’s Massive Boat

T here might not be a more influential person in all of American sports than Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Jones is one of the most visible owners in the NFL , and he’s been at the forefront of the league’s massive growth in recent decades.

Jones is one of the richest NFL owners , and his massive fortune allows him to make some lavish purchases. That includes his 357-foot yacht, the Bravo Eugenia. Let’s take a look at the impressive vessel.

When Did Jerry Jones Buy His Yacht?

Jones purchased his 357-foot yacht from the Dutch firm Oceanco back in 2019.

Shortly after Jones bought the boat, he showed off his new purchase by making the Cowboys’ 2020 NFL Draft picks while aboard the vessel, which was captured by ESPN’s cameras during their broadcast.

Jones named his superyacht the Bravo Eugenia in honor of his wife, Eugenia Jones.

“Creating our Bravo Eugenia was a project born out of true love for our family,” Jones told Yachts International . “Building and designing her became a family affair on every level of the project. Gene oversaw the project and guided us through every step of the process, while our entire family, including our children and grandchildren, visited Oceanco on many occasions, contributing to the yacht’s development and helping to shape our dream.”

MORE: What Is Jerry Jones’ Net Worth? How the Cowboys Owner Made His Money

“With Gene’s supervision, we were personally involved with every aspect of the build, all the way from the keel laying to every design decision to the christening ceremony to her delivery and beyond,” he added.

What Does Jones’ Superyacht Look Like?

There’s no way around it: Jones’ boat is an impressive piece of machinery.

Some of the amenities of the yacht include two Helipads, seven cabins capable of accommodating 14 guests, four decks worth of space, a 30-member crew, a gym, a swimming pool/plunge pool, a sauna, and a steam room.

All information and photos courtesy of Boat Safe .

Inside the 357-Foot Superyacht

As impressive as Jones’ yacht looks from the outside, it’s even more astonishing once you step inside.

How Much Did the Yacht Cost?

According to reports, Jones paid $250 million out of pocket to purchase his superyacht. With the annual estimated running costs being valued at $15-20 million a year, it’s safe to say that Jones will try to get the most out of his investment.

It certainly sounds like Jones is happy with his purchase. When asked why he bought the yacht, he told Yachts International that his goal is “to see as much of the world as possible from the perspective of the sea.”

“Bravo Eugenia gives us the flexibility to reach so many destinations that touch landscapes and cultures that will create unique and lasting family memories and experiences,” Jones said.

“On board Bravo Eugenia, our private and public areas are personalized with commissioned art, family memories and mementos, bespoke board games that depict our family history, such as Monopoly and Clue that represent our then and now. Bravo Eugenia is truly a reflection of our life and the things we love.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones greets fans.
