Peter Dodds

Peter, a Charleston native, began work at Charleston Yacht Sales in 1970. Fresh out of college, and looking for what he thought would be a summer job, he instead found his life’s work. Peter took over the business in 1979 and has been at the brokerage ever since.

He grew up sailing and fishing out of Charleston Harbor, and has competed in sailing events all over the US and Caribbean as well as abroad. Peter’s knowledge is based on experience, having traversed the East Coast and Caribbean in nearly every type of boat imaginable, both sail and power.

During his 38 year tenure in yacht brokerage, he has experienced virtually every nuance one may encounter in the sale or purchase of a vessel. His knowledge of the market value of a vessel draws from the experience of having worked through many economic cycles. This wealth of experience enables Peter to achieve success in every transaction, whether it’s establishing a selling price that will promote a timely sale for your boat, or helping you find the boat of your dreams that is both well-found, and fairly priced.

In 2002, after a comprehensive examination, Peter was one of the first 50 yacht brokers in the country to achieve the designation of Certified Professional Yacht Broker from the Yacht Brokers Association of America. He is licensed and bonded in the State of Florida, as provided by law.

Matt Malatich - CPYB

Matt Malatich is the Managing Broker of S&J Yachts in Charleston, S.C., where he is a standout in helping clients navigate the acquisition or disposition process of luxury cruising yachts.

Boating has always been at the forefront of Matt’s life. From growing up on boats, to pleasure cruising and racing, to watching his own kids learn the lines, Matt’s love of the sea is woven throughout the canvas of his life.

It’s no wonder that a heart for the water, a head for business and a degree from Hamilton College led Matt to launch his career in 1996 as a yacht broker with J/Port and then Crusader Yacht Sales in Annapolis, MD. In this role, he sold brokerage boats and new J/Boats, Ericsons, Pacific Seacraft, Sagas and Tiaras.

Shortly after being named Salesperson of the Year for Pacific Seacraft, Matt returned to his hometown of Princeton, N.J., in 1999 to expand his professional experience to commercial real estate. Matt served as a commercial real estate broker for CBRE and Preferred Real Estate Investments, where he focused on acquisitions of large corporate-owned properties for redevelopment as well as leasing of office properties and due diligence of large-scale dispositions.

Matt transitioned to the role of Assistant Director of Leasing for Hilton Realty, a fully integrated real estate development and management company in 2006. For nearly a decade, Matt’s primary focus was on marketing and leasing industrial, office and retail properties to large banks, law firms, technology firms, pharmaceutical companies, national retailers as well as mom and pop stores.

In 2015, Matt’s genuine affinity toward boating prompted him to make a sea change personally and professionally. Trading bricks for boats, Matt returned to the yacht brokerage business as the Managing Broker for S&J Yacht’s Charleston office.

Today, drawing from nearly 25 years of combined experience in yacht brokerage and commercial real estate, Matt has built a reputation for his proven ability to assist buyers and sellers of upscale power and cruising sailboats throughout North America and Europe.

As a seasoned broker, Matt understands that buying and selling can be both one of the most euphoric and stressful times in a boater’s journey, and views representation and guidance of his clients’ dreams as a true privilege.

Matt’s calm and easy demeanor provides clients with a steady hand at the wheel to help them obtain the best value for their dream yacht, as well as assisting sellers with a smooth sale of their vessel when the time is right. Originally born in Greensboro NC, Ric now has 21 years experience in yacht brokerage sales, and over 25 years experience in the NC marine industry. Capt. Ric Graduated from UNCW in 2002 and was immediately hired by a local Yacht Dealership where he was successful in his efforts for over 5 years. In 2007 Capt. Ric started Intracoastal Yacht Sales to focus solely on brokerage vessels. The business quickly grew and 2 more locations were soon added.  Capt. Captain Bobby Gregory has been an avid boater all his life. He owned his first boat at the age of 10. He got into the yachting business as a hobby delivering yachts up and down the east coast for dealers and yacht owners. He is a native of Charleston and earned a BS degree from the College of Charleston. He has been a US Coast Guard licensed Captain since 1998 and is proficient at boat handling and navigation. Robert Sparkman – Robert has been a member of the boating community since he was 7 years old on the TVA lakes of Tennessee. It was such a passion for him, he joined the US Coast Guard out of high school. After getting out of the Coast Guard Robert got an engineering degree at Tennessee Tech and had a career as a sales executive with Lockheed Martin Commercial Systems Integration and Advanced Concepts Center. After early retirement with Lockheed Martin he got back into the boating industry in a big way as a Yacht Broker. That was 15 years ago. His passion for the boating lifestyle is quite beneficial to assisting his customers with finding just buying the right boat for their boating plans.
