World’s fourth largest superyacht spotted arriving at Malta’s iconic Grand Harbour
She left the Lürssen facilities in Germany last week for her maiden voyage to Malta
by Helena Grech

The f ourth largest superyacht in the world , and the fifth largest by length, was spotted cruising into Malta’s iconic Grand Harbour last week.
The stunning pleasure craft, simply called ‘Blue’, was photographed by freelance photographer Alex Turnbull.
Built by one of the world’s leading builders of custom luxury superyachts, Lürssen is a family-run yacht manufacturer based in Germany, dating back to 1875. The shipyard currently holds a near monopoly in the construction of supersized superyachts as it counts 13 of the world’s top 25 superyachts within its ranks.
Formerly known as Project Blue, the pleasure craft is 160 metres long and was formally launched in February 2022. It was tested in open water back in April, and after a successful trial, it departed from the Lürssen shipyard on 4th July for her maiden voyage to Malta.
The superyacht was designed by Terence Disdale, while the naval architecture was developed by Lürssen.
Blue is just one of 63 motor yachts longer than 100m across the globe, and sails under the Cayman Islands flag.
The impressive pleasure craft boasts a crisp white hull with four upper decks, providing for a highly elegant profile. The vessel’s beam measures a staggering 22.5 metres and the entire yacht clocks in at 15,320 GT.
On-board features include a pair of helicopter landing sites: a large helideck at the bow and a smaller helipad aft. From a recreational perspective, it has been praised for its extensive swimming platform, providing guests with a highly comfortable experience when accessing the water.
The vessel is kitted out with its very own beach club, an array of al fresco relaxing and entertainment spaces, and a jacuzzi installed on the sun deck.
According to superyachtfan.com , Blue caters for 48 guests across 24 cabins, and can hold 80 crew members in around 40 cabins. The superyachting platform also says that Blue is priced at around $600 million, and that it is owned by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.
It is one of the world’s largest to be equipped with diesel-electric power hybrid propulsion and is capable of using electric propulsion for slow speeds, and of generating electrical energy to operate the vessel at higher velocities.
In order to generate less noise and vibration and reduce nitrogen oxide levels, Blue is equipped with a state-of-the-art exhaust after-treatment system. Furthermore, the wastewater treatment plant is equipped with new membrane technology that allows the treated wastewater to be safely disposed of in ‘drinking water quality’.

Malta Yacht Charter, Malta
The small archipelago of Malta is a wonderful addition to any Mediterranean luxury yacht charter and the destination is famous for its extensive variety of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including megalithic temples that are some of the world's oldest free-standing structures. Here, the past is mixed with the present in a passionate display of life.
Wherever you go on the island of Malta, you'll find stunning architecture and scenery. Many people don't realize that Malta is more than just a historical gem; it's also an outstanding sailing yacht charter destination in the Mediterranean with warm sunshine and clear blue skies from April through to October. The Maltese Island of Malta, Gozo and Comino provide a charming cruising ground for your Malta luxury yacht charter vacation.
Countless spas, boutiques and luxury boutiques line the streets of the towns in the world's fifth most densely populated country, ensuring that when you are not cruising by motor yacht or sailing yacht, you won't have far to travel to reach the next amazing exhibition. As well as the modern amusements and ancient relics, Malta has a great selection of beautiful beaches and secretive coves for hours of water sports in peace and privacy.
Malta, Comino and Gozo make up the Maltese archipelago and the islands lie between North Africa and Sicily where the Western Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean meet.
From the main island of Malta, travel to Comino, where there are some amazing wreck and cave dives that are home to seahorses as well as octopi, stingrays and parrotfish. Have the island all to yourself for a romantic dinner on the beach, or hike along the tracks and discover such sights as the Santa Maria Caves, St. Mary's Tower and other buildings erected in defence of the island during WWII.
The final island of Gozo will take you away from the noise and bright lights of modern civilisation for a natural world completely in harmony with itself. The stone buildings add to the already strong character of this region that feels from another time, and holistic lifestylers, fitness fanatics and those just looking to switch off will find what they were searching for here.
Malta is a truly unique and wonderful yacht charter area with impressive buildings and landscapes, superb coastlines and seascapes, and warm and friendly locals: To organise your Malta luxury yacht charter or to speak to a professional broker about your options, please contact CharterWorld.
5 quick reasons to visit Malta
UNESCO Heritage Sites, Vibrant nightlife, Magnificent wreck dives, Stunning coastal caves and grottoes, Completely tranquil destinations
More about this part of the Mediterranean Sea
Malta is placed in the Middle of the Mediterranean Sea on the cusp of the Western Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean luxury yacht charter grounds. Nearby, Sicily and the Aeolian Islands have copious volcanic sites that have created unique landscapes and fertile soils that have been put to use as vineyards.
Also close by is the Amalfi Coast, with such sites as Naples and the charming clifftop town of Ravello.
Scattered in the Mediterranean Sea are the islands of Linosa, Lampedusa and Pantelleria for even more beautiful beaches and pristine natural parks. Tunisia could also be included in an itinerary to Malta, adding a destination that has familiar aspects to be found in other magnificent Mediterranean destinations while still remaining wonderfully unique.
Malta Yacht Charter Experiences
A Malta luxury yacht charter is the perfect way to efficiently take in all sites across the islands, and sailing yachts and motor yachts, mono-hulls and catamarans of all sizes are suited to the excellent anchorages and well-designed modern ports.
From the moment you arrive in Valletta Harbour your group will immerse themselves in charming and grandiose buildings that loudly announce the magnificent history of this small island, and this popular tourist destination is awash in alluring cafes and restaurants as well as boutiques, international brand stores, galleries and museums.
Valletta on its own has plenty to fill your days: Begin your exploration of its history in the unmissable National War Museum in Fort St. Elmo - while Malta has several war museums, this is the most comprehensive and well maintained. Next door, the Knights Hospitallers is worth a look and is an atmospheric venue for events, while out in the fresh air the highly maintained Lower Barrakka Gardens give magnificent views out over the harbour. Visitors venturing into the town centre have the opportunity to enter The Grandmaster Palace Courtyard to learn more about the city's storied past. As the sun sets, discover the vibrant bar and club scene along the waterfront.
As you leave behind the crowds and spend your time in transit dining alfresco or sunbathing on the sundeck, and find a serene cove to anchor and sleep in peace surrounded by the sounds of nature.
Inland, Mdina is known for its bars and pedestrianised shopping streets, and in particular for the Silent City where there are historical treasures and a collection of Caravaggio paintings. St. Paul's Catacombs is also an incredible and worthwhile tour before your head down the southern roads to the 3200 BC ruins of Ħaġar Qim and the Blue Grotto, one of the most stunning natural sites in Malta.
The sleepy island of Gozo is a part of the Malta archipelago and is thought to be the legendary "Calypso’s Isle" of Homer’s Odyssey. It’s a peaceful, mystical backwater, with rugged landscape and spectacular coastline. Pull into rocky inlets or red sand beaches and spend hours entertaining yourself snorkelling, fishing and Scuba diving amongst some of the Mediterranean's best dive sites.
This destination is popular with older travellers who enjoy the peace and quiet, lack of modern development and retention of the old traditions. Many of the buildings are still made from natural stone instead of concrete so Gozo has an atmosphere all of its own.
Comino is a small inhabited island with only four people living there. Although there is a hotel, many visitors just come for the day to dive in the famous Blue Lagoon, leaving the rest of the island bays and beaches to your group. By kayak, paddleboard or tender, take your time amongst the Santa Maria and Julia caves to the west, where the white cliffs and topaz blue sea are perfect for adventurers and for artists and photographers to capture.
The Blue Lagoon is fairly busy from 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, after which luxury yacht charter parties will have the place to themselves. Travel south to the natural amphitheatre of the Crystal Lagoon with its steep cliffs and glassy green water, which provides excellent seclusion for an overnight anchorage.
Things to Consider:
Yachting seasons & climate:.
Malta has an inviting year-round climate, where the winter season temperature drops to a warm average of 13°C/55°F and summer soars to a comfortable 27°C/81°F, with a high of 32°C/90°F.
From July to September the sea temperature sits around 26°C/79°F and are wonderfully warm for snorkelling, watersports and for beginner Scuba divers heading down to depths around 10m/33ft.
July is the driest month with little to no rainfall, and November through to January is the wettest season and visitors should plan their wardrobe accordingly.
Clothing to Pack For Your Charter:
Although there are some excellent beaches across the three main islands of Malta, visitors are most likely to spend their time exploring the streets of Valetta and the ruins to be found from the coast through to the interior. As such, a sturdy pair of hiking boots and a lightweight jacket is recommended, and visitors might want to include a long pair of trousers for walking along overgrown trails.
In town, smart-casual dress is typically seen for the cafes, bars and clubs as well as visiting the numerous museums, galleries and religious sites.
Main Ports and Marinas:
Valletta Port, Marsamxett Port, Bugibba Port, Cirkewwa Port, Marsaxlokk Port, Mgarr Port
Famous Restaurants & Clubs:
Inspirtions! Cafe (Valletta), The Whisky Bar (Valletta), Charles Grech Cafe & Cocktail Bar (Valletta), Twenty Two night club (Portomaso), Southport Restaurant, Cafe & Bar (Marsaxlokk), Havana Club (Paceville)
A Must See Attraction:
Grandmaster Palace Courtyard, Lower Barrakka Gardens, National War Museum - Fort St Elmo, The Knights Hospitallers, Blue Grotto
Best beaches to visit in your yacht:
Golden Sands Beach, Armier Bay Beach, Gnejna Bay, St. Peter's Pool
Local Yacht Events:
Sport Malta Regatta, Rolex Middle Sea Race
Best time to go:
Like most of the Mediterranean, the Malta yacht chartering season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season in July and August tends to have the best weather, as these are the hottest months with lighter winds. This is also the high season as far as yacht charter goes.
Other good times to charter your yacht is generally on either of the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), each side of the main summer season, as the temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers.
Autumn can be a great time to visit when the sea temperatures are still warm and there is a significant amount of sunshine, however visitors should expect short sharp thunderstorms during the evenings of this season.

Bravo's much-beloved maritime hit has been seen filming in Malta for season 7 of Below Deck Mediterranean, with crew members spotted aboard superyacht HOME and our exclusive superyacht data tracking her whereabouts confirms that she will be the new superyacht for this upcoming season.
Fans of the extremely popular reality TV show, which chronicles the lives of crew members working aboard a superyacht, will be extremely happy to hear the long-standing Captain will be back at the helm in the eagerly awaited new season.
Photos appear to confirm that fan favorite Captain Sandy will be returning to our screens as will Courtney Veale and Mzi "Zee" Dempers. It's expected season 7 will be aired in May 2022, but no official announcement has yet been made regarding its release nor the yacht and crew members.
Superyacht HOME in Below Deck Mediterranean Season 7
This marks the first time superyacht HOME appears in the show, following the appearance of elegant charter yacht LADY MICHELLE in season 6. The 180-foot Benetti cruised Croatia's sunkissed coastline and myriad islands while the show's many antics took place on her decks.

Superyacht guests were celebrating Mike Lynch’s acquittal when disaster struck
G uests were celebrating the acquittal of Mike Lynch , the British tech entrepreneur, on the superyacht Bayesian when the vessel sank off the coast of Italy.
One person has died and six others, including four British nationals, are missing after the Bayesian capsized at around 5am on Monday. Mr Lynch is among the missing after the boat sank in a tornado off the village of Porticello, in Palermo, Sicily.
One mother aboard the yacht, who survived the sinking, said she had held her baby child aloft to save her from drowning.
Mr Lynch had gathered guests from Clifford Chance, the legal firm, and Invoke Capital, his own company, after being cleared in June of fraud over the multi billion-dollar sale of Autonomy.
He was found not guilty on all counts of an accusation of inflating the value of the company, which he sold to the US tech giant Hewlett-Packard for £8.6 billion in 2011.
The father of a Clifford Chance lawyer who survived the sinking confirmed that the trip had been intended as a celebration of the court victory .
Lin Ronald said his daughter Ayla, 36, is a lawyer who was part of the successful legal team who were invited to go sailing
Mr Ronald said: “I have texted with my daughter and she hasn’t given me any updates about missing personnel or saved personnel. She has only said to me that there are deaths, and she and her partner are alive.
There were 15 survivors, rescued by the Italian coast guard from a life raft put to sea as the 183ft yacht went down.
Among the survivors was a one-year-old British baby called Sofia who was saved by her mother, named by one Italian newspaper as Charlotte Golunski.
Ms Golunski, an Oxford graduate and a senior associate at Invoke, fought to prevent her child from drowning.
She told Republicca: “I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning. It was all dark. In the water I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others.”
Mother and baby were saved when they were able to get on to a lifeboat with others.
Speaking from the Giovanni di Cristina paediatric hospital in Palermo, she said she “can still hear her little girl crying in her ears as they floated in the waves and their holiday sailing boat sank”. She said she was amazed that the child, who had just turned one, had emerged from the water unscathed.
The violent storm had struck without warning. The Bayesian had been moored offshore from Porticello. It had sailed to Porticello from Cefalu, another historic seaside village on Sicliy’s northern shore.
Pietro Asciutto, a fisherman who watched the disaster unfold from his home in Porticello, told a local news agency: “I was at home when the tornado hit. I immediately closed all the windows.
“Then I saw the boat. It had only one mast, it was very large. I saw it sink suddenly.
“I think the tornado came from Porticello. Shortly after I went down to the Bay of Santa Nicolicchia to get a better look at what was happening. The boat was still floating, then suddenly it disappeared. I saw it sink with my own eyes.”
As the yacht began to sink, a member of the crew fired a distress flare, its red trail alerting boats nearby.
Karsten Borner, a captain on a Dutch-flagged sailing ship also moored off Porticello, went to the rescue, pulling survivors from the lifeboat. He had at first struggled to keep his own yacht under control as the storm hit.
“This morning we got this strong hurricane gust and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position, and we watched the ship behind us not to touch them and we managed to keep the ship in position, and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” said Mr Borner.
“And then we saw a red flare, so my first mate and I went to the position, and we found this life raft drifting.
“Fifteen people inside. Four people were injured, three heavily injured, and we brought them to our ship. Then we communicated with the coast guard, and after some time the coast guard came and later picked up injured people.”
Emergency divers, according to the local rescue centre in Sicily, found wreckage at a depth of 187ft, where “through the portholes they saw corpses”.
Vigili del Fuoco, Italy’s fire and rescue service, confirmed the body of a male had been recovered from the yacht. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, it said the “lifeless body of a man [has been] recovered from the wreck by the divers.”
It posted the statement alongside a clip of the rescue effort with footage showing helicopters, boats and divers carrying out a search operation.
Investigators will now try to work out why the Bayesian sank when other ships in the vicinity remained afloat. The yacht had the world’s tallest aluminium mast at almost 250ft.
It is owned by Revtom, a company registered on the Isle of Man. According to company documents filed in April, Revtom’s legal owner is Angela Bacares, Mr Lynch’s wife.
A former chief stewardess who had previously crewed the Bayesian said the boat had always previously withstood the choppiest of seas.
Monica Jensen, 48, told The Telegraph: “It seems a bit strange. We have been in bad weather with it, crossed the Atlantic. It’s been all over. These things definitely don’t happen very often.”
Ms Jensen worked on the superyacht from November 2018 to October 2020 for a private owner, and said it had since been sold. She was with it on two Caribbean seasons and cruised around Italy, Malta, Greece and the Balearics.
Shen said the crew would have been well-drilled on the evacuation process, adding: “You can’t work on a boat without the right certificates, training and you do drills monthly.”
In a statement, the Italian coast guard said: “This morning at about 5am, following a violent gale, a 56-metre yacht named Bayesian and flying the UK flag sank off Porticello.
“The first shipwrecked were rescued by a boat in the immediate vicinity and brought ashore by four coast guard vessels, which promptly responded to the scene from Porticello, Termini Imerese and Palermo.
“Initial information received from the yacht crew indicated that 22 people, 10 crew members and 12 passengers, were on board the yacht. There are currently 15 people rescued and seven missing, one crew member and six passengers, of British, American and Canadian nationality.
“Of the people recovered, eight were transported to local hospitals. The vessel is reported to have sunk on a seabed of about 50 metres. The search continues unabated with naval, air and underwater resources, including the Messina coast guard diving unit.”
Bartolomeo Lo Coco, who owns the Tosto Chiosco cafe in Porticello, said it was common for rental yachts and boats to sail through the fishing village, adding that the captain should not be blamed for what had occurred because the weather had been so unpredictable.
“This was a terrible misfortune that no one could have foreseen. It is nobody’s fault, the captain should not be blamed,” he said. “We are in mourning here, all of us are in mourning. We have never seen anything like this, ever. There is a very serious tragedy.”
His kiosk, which serves snacks and sandwiches, overlooks the water in Porticello. He said the tornado had not only caused the tragic accident, but also widespread damage in the port.
He added: “This wasn’t a thunderstorm, this was a whirlwind. It happened all of a sudden. There is a lot of damage here. Boats were dislodged from their moorings and restaurant tables were broken within minutes and sent flying several metres.”

Superyacht sinks latest: Daughter, 18, of British tycoon Mike Lynch missing; yacht 'in wrong place at wrong time'
At least one person has died and six are missing, including the tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter, after a superyacht carrying mostly Britons was sunk in a tornado off the coast of Sicily. Mr Lynch's wife and a one-year-old girl are among the 15 people who have been rescued.

By Ashna Hurynag, news correspondent
It's nearly midnight in Porticello - a quaint fishing village popular with tourists and Sicilian locals looking for a weekend away.
Here it is not unusual to see people including young children gathered on a small plinth overlooking the harbourside.
But tonight they’re not admiring the calm waters or the full moon above - instead their eyes are trained on the scene two giant floodlights illuminate.
Three fire and rescue trucks and a big white tent can be seen - the hub of the makeshift emergency rescue operation here.
About 100 metres from the tent is where a coastguard vessel with blue flashing lights circles the water with cave divers on board.
It’s combing the area where they know the yacht stood only hours ago. It’s careful work for the divers with only moonlight and the glow of the festoon lights on the harbour front aiding their work on the surface.
Back on the harbour and people in blue uniforms rush in and out of the white tent. Some of the 30 or so onlookers here tell us about last night's storm.
They say it was relentless and unforgiving and describe the wind pounding at their hotel and apartment windows. One woman described it as “scary” inside her house, let alone on a lonely vessel moored off the coast.
They watch now as recovery efforts ramp up with extra teams coming ashore to aid the meticulous work - it’ll continue long into the night.
As the hours tick by without news, the more likely this turns into a recovery mission.
Specialist cave divers have joined the search in the last hour, says Sky's Ashna Hurynag, at the scene.
The search is going on overnight with floodlights brought in.
Cave divers are experienced in operating in confined, dark spaces where there's no direct above-water exit to breathable air.
Such skills will be needed to enter the sunken yacht, navigate through debris and search inside for missing people.
Photos posted in 2021 by a rigging company provide a bird's eye view from the top of the 75-metre mast, said to be the tallest made from aluminium in the world.
There has been speculation it may have broken when the yacht was hit by a waterspout tornado, destabilising the vessel and causing it to sink rapidly.
However, the exact chain of events is still being investigated.
Stephen Chamberlain, co-defendant in Mike Lynch's US fraud trial, has died after being hit by a car, according to his lawyer.
Mr Chamberlain was struck by a vehicle while running in Stretham, Cambridgeshire, and put on life support.
Police said a 49-year-old woman remained at the scene and was assisting with enquiries.
Mr Chamberlain, the former vice president of finance for Mr Lynch at Autonomy, was cleared of fraud and conspiracy charges by a San Francisco jury in June.
They were falsely accused of inflating the firm's value before it was sold to US company Hewlett-Packard.
"He was a courageous man with unparalleled integrity, and we deeply miss him," lawyer Gary Lincenberg said.
"He fought successfully to clear his good name, which lives on through his wonderful family."
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch is sending a team of four inspectors to Italy to conduct a preliminary assessment.
The Southampton-based body is an independent unit of the Department for Transport and has four accident investigation teams.
According to its website, improving international cooperation in marine accident investigations is one of its responsibilities.
The Bayesian was sailing under a UK flag, which Boat International says is the fourth most popular flag state for superyachts.
An oceanographer has told Sky News the weather window for searching this evening is closing as more storms are forecast.
Despite no more survivors being found since this morning, Dr Simon Boxall, from Southampton University, said it's important to continue the search for now.
"There are stories of people getting caught in air bubbles, so it's worth looking in the vessel, but time will tell," he said.
Dr Boxall said current warm sea temperatures, 4C above the 20-year average, likely played a role as they can fuel storms and increase the chance of waterspouts.
He said the crew would have known about low pressure and bad weather in the area, but were likely "just caught unawares" by a sudden flare-up in wind speed.
If the storm snapped or damaged the 75-metre mast it "could well have destabilised the vessel", said Dr Boxall.
He added that, contrary to most people's idyllic image of the Mediterranean, he'd seen some "horrendous" storms in the region in August.
A yachtsman who worked on Bayesian several years ago has told Sky News it's a "well respected boat and well known in the industry, especially on the Mediterranean and Caribbean circuits".
He said: "The weather around Sicily can be slightly unpredictable but this does seem to have been an unusually large freak storm.
“The missing crew members are well known and liked across the industry.
"We have been nervously waiting for updates since this morning. My thoughts are with all involved during this awful moment."
Salvo Cocina from Sicily's civil protection agency has said the Bayesian was "in the wrong place at the wrong time".
Another superyacht nearby, the Sir Robert Baden Powell, wasn't as badly damaged and helped rescue some of the 15 survivors.
A storm hit the area overnight and a waterspout has been blamed for the sinking.
Sky News meteorologist Chris England says tornados and strong waterspouts are essentially the same thing, with one forming over land and the other over water.
The US National Ocean Service says they are associated with severe thunderstorms, and are often accompanied by high winds and seas, large hail and lightning.
Mike Lynch's teenage daughter Hannah is among those missing from the yacht, according to Italian media.
Mr Lynch remains unaccounted for, but his wife was rescued.
The six missing people are made up of four Britons and two Americans, according to La Repubblica.
The one body recovered is believed to be the boat's cook, said Italian fire and rescue spokesperson Luca Cari.
Sicily’s civil protection agency said others on board - believed to be crew - were from Antigua, France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain.
Sky News is now able to identify the British woman who saved her one-year-old daughter from drowning.
Charlotte Golunski, 35, told Italian media she lost Sofia for "two seconds" amid the "fury" of the sea but was able to retrieve her.
She told la Repubblica: "I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning.
"It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others."
Luckily, she managed to scramble on a lifeboat once it inflated.
The girl's father James Emsley also survived, according to Salvo Cocina from Sicily's civil protection agency.
Ms Golunski's LinkedIn profile says she's a partner at Mike Lynch's firm, Invoke Capital, and has worked there since 2012.
Before that she worked at Hewlett Packard for 11 months and studied history at University of Oxford.

What our customers say
Hi David, Just wanted to pass on our thanks to your organisation for the private sailing boat charter we took yesterday skippered by Tino. The yacht was wonderful as too was the scenery but what really made the trip was Tino. He was exceptionally polite, knowledgeable and professional. His sailing skills are second to none. He took great pride in his job and the boat that he was in control of. He even caught a fish for us and was explaining to my young son in great detail all about Maltese fish – not to mention all sorts of details along the way. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending your Malta Private Sailing Yacht Charters and Private boat rentals in the future.
Clint Waters - Melbourne, Australia
Dear David, We had a lovely time sailing around Malta with Tino. MoonSong is an awesome sailing yacht, you should be very proud of her. As for Tino, we can’t say enough good things about him. He was a great tour guide, telling us about the history of Malta as we sailed passed its battlements. He was a very able sailor, avoiding weather and making us feel comfortable and safe on the boat on a day with ever changing weather. The meal was tasty and the portions generous. Thank you for helping to make our Private yacht rental for Sailing in Malta the best day of our vacation! Kind regards,
Jane & Jeff Schmitz - San Diego, CA. USA
Thank you David for a fantastic sailing week yacht charter on the Moonsong! Both me and my family was very satisfied with your lovely boat and with the skipper Raymond.
Peter Iburg & Family - Sweden
David, Thanks again for the great time on the full day sailing boat charter to Comino Island. I own a sailboat and sail on the Chesapeake Bay in the U.S. Having an opportunity to sail in the Mediterranean Sea with an experienced captain in a very well maintained and equipped boat made for a wonderful day. Changing course of the boat when you heard of our interest in St. Paul to show us St. Paul’s Bay and his statute and all the other information/history you shared about Malta made the day very interesting for my wife, son, and I as well.
Ken Baker - United States
Good morning David, i wanted to let you know that we took a Sailing Yacht Charter this week with yourself and had the best day of our vacation. We booked our sailing yacht charter with Christina and our skipper for the day charter was Alex who i might add was fantastic. He made our trip magical his knowledge of the sailing boat and the sea was second to none. Every one on board the yacht has not stopped talking about our boat trip. This was my first trip to Malta but it won’t be my last on my next visit i will be using your service on one of your boats again without hesitation. Please send thanks to your good lady wife who i understand prepared our wonderful lunch. Thank you once again David.
Darren Nancarrow - United Kingdom
Dear David, Just a short note to say thank you. We had an amazing charter on-board one of your yachts. Charlie was an amazing host, his sailing skills were great and the food on board was great and truly appreciated – well prepared from very good ingredients. Having a day out at sea on a private sailing yacht charter was absolutely lovely.
Toni Immanen
Hi David, Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed today on board your sailing yacht during our day charter. Just enough wind to sail and with your skipper’s help – found a lovely place to anchor off St Paul’s islands. The Skipper was fun to be with and his stories made our sailing day charter one remember for a long time. Thanks again for sorting everything.
Adam, Adam & Louise – United Kingdom
Hi David. I just wanted to say what a lovely afternoon we had sailing on your beautiful boat. Staffan was so nice and explained a lot of the history of Malta he was so charming and we were all so relaxed. It’s really made our holiday so very special. We can’t wait to come back and book a Private yacht charter with you again in August. Thank you so much for the great sailing yacht charter experience and please pass on my thanks to Staffan.
Zoe Gregory - London, UK
We chartered the Beneteau Cyclades 43.3 sailing yacht. The boat is in immaculate condition and boasts of all the facilities you would need/expect to find on such a boat. The Captain was David who is the owner/operator. David is a very experienced captain and knows the waters around Malta, Gozo, and Comino inside out. From the minute you step foot on the sailing boat you immediately feel at ease knowing that you are in very good and capable hands. David’s pleasant personality, coupled with his polished professionalism as well as his thorough knowledge of the Maltese Islands made for a fantastic day charter out at Sea. A true 5 Star experience. Thank you David. I would certainly recommend Sailing Charters Malta to anyone wanting to charter a yacht in Malta and will definitely be using their services again very soon.
Martin Spiteri - Malta
We had a great time sailing on our day trip on 7th August on your boat. Tino was excellent, nothing was a problem. We were especially grateful for the attention he paid to the two children in our party, making sure they were always safe but enjoying themselves. Thank you for the cake too! Highly recommended yacht charter.
Hayley Grice - United Kingdom
Dear David, I would like to drop you a line highlighting our much enjoyable experience during our sailing boat charter last Tuesday. The day started with very light wind but then had favourable windy conditions late afternoon on our way back. So, being relatively a first ‘full’ sailing boat experience for us we had a great time on board. However, I (we) must admit that it was Tino who made the day for us. His unwavering interest and intensity with which he addresses all boating/seamanship issues are second to none. His ease of hands-on approach together with his personality made our day one to remember. Not to mention that the boat was spotless clean and in best shape. Hats off to Tino. I am positive that your company will keep thriving with people like Tino on board. He is an asset through and through. Keep up the good work. Finally, we look forward to sailing again on your yacht in the future.
Anthony Scicluna - Malta
We spent the day sailing on a lovely 43 foot sailing boat which we rented from Sailing Charters Malta Ltd for our Private Yacht Malta Charter event. The Skipper for the day was David who is also the owner. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. The boat was in perfect condition; clean from top to bottom & everything was in perfect working order. David made our trip one to remember. His expertise and friendliness throughout the trip made it the perfect day out. We will surely be using Sailing Charters Malta again and would definitely recommend this company for a Malta Yacht Charter. Truly a 5 star yacht charter experience…..Keep it up!!
Liz Baker - Malta
Hi David, We wanted to thank you for our private sailing trip when in Malta. Everything was wonderful, we especially wanted to thank Tino for showing us around. We have worked with many skippers but he tops our list. Thanks again.
Aylin E. Cicek
Hi David, So sorry for the late reply but was having some difficulties with my phone whilst in Malta. We are home now and back at work. Thank you so much for the photo, we will all treasure it forever. Last Thursday’s boat trip was amazing. We all had such a fabulous day sailing. From the moment of arrival until we left, we were all made to feel so welcome and looked after and would not hesitate to charter from you again. Alex was a brilliant host and his sailing skills are simply amazing. So informative. We asked so many questions and he was able to answer every one of them. He looked after us so well. The food was phenomenal, please thank your wife for preparing it for us, we ate heartily and were so full after. I cannot praise your company enough and will be writing you a review on Tripadvisor. All 8 of us had the most wonderful sailing day charter on your yacht which we will never forget. Thank you so much again

I am an American Citizen temporarily living in Malta and have chartered a sailing boat twice with Sailing Charters Malta (Jeanneau 32, Beneteau 43). Sailing Charters Malta is an excellent boat & yacht charter service that i would strongly recommend to anyone wishing to experience Malta, Gozo, or Comino in a private setting from the beautiful Mediterranean. The service is very punctual and responsive to initial inquiries and specific requirements of the client. For both of my Malta Charters, the Captain was the Owner / Operator of the boat and were very technically qualified with life knowledge and experience sailing the Maltese Islands. Having exposure to boat ownership and operation in the United States, I would describe both of the boats that i chartered to be in impeccable condition. I would like to close with a special Thank you to David for the excellent day and memories with my parents who are visiting Malta to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Tim Baker - United States
Dear David, I hope this e-mail finds you well. We arrived safe on Friday at home and we are happy to be back after our holiday in Malta and after having spent a day sailing on your yacht. Tomorrow the real life will start again and before we are completely absorbed by it, I wanted to say thank you again for the great day my family and I spent with you on your boat. Many thanks to your wife for the delicious food she prepared for us. I wish you and your family all the best and much success! Best regards.
Ricardo Bernasconi & Family - Sweden
What a relaxing day on a boat! I do recommend to anyone who is looking for a great Malta sailing yacht charter service and in particular, to spend a day to unwind and chill.
Mark Grech - Malta
Dear David, We are now back in England having had a lovely holiday in Malta celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary. I want to write to thank you for your contribution to making it such a successful event. Your no fuss yet organised approach leading up to the day sailing on your yachts on a private charter was very reassuring, your instructions clear and precise. Moonsong was a lovely boat and Tino a most able and knowledgeable skipper. Alex and I were so happy he had worked with Birdlife and that he could help us identify the birds we came across whilst sailing. We were also all impressed by his general knowledge that made the trip so much more interesting. He went beyond providing us with an amazing day charter on a boat. Thank you also for being there to meet us in person in the morning and for the lovely food you provided. Congratulations to the cook. The whole family had a most enjoyable time during our private yacht hire and we would certainly look you up should we want to repeat the experience on your yacht.
Rose Krzyz - United Kingdom
Hi David, Just wanted to thank you for the sailing yacht charter yesterday. We had a great time on your boat and will hopefully be back next year for another day of sailing. I will also pass on your details to more of my friends from Australia who are keen to visit Malta and do a sailing yacht charter. Thanks for a great day.
Adam Zen - Australia
Dear David, We have just returned from our wonderful day sailing on your yacht and what an amazing day we had. I would like to let you know how really friendly and helpful we found Tino, nothing was too much trouble. He was full of great information and also was wonderful with the children, they will not forget today in a hurry. We even had a lovely freshly caught fish for supper on the way home. Again thank you for providing us with an excellent experience for our sailing boat charter rental from your company and please pass on our thanks to Tino.

What we know about the capsized superyacht off the Sicilian coast
Officials were caught off guard by ferocity of storm that sank ship.
Social Sharing
During a vicious storm before dawn on Monday, a superyacht carrying nearly two dozen people suddenly capsized and sank within sight of a small Sicilian fishing village. A Canadian man died and several others are still missing.
Here's what we know about the ship.
Who was on board?
Twenty-two people were onboard the ship when it went down off the coast of Porticello, less than 20 kilometres from the Sicilian capital of Palermo. Fifteen people were rescued.
A passenger ship anchored nearby, the Sir Robert Baden Powell, found some of the survivors on a life raft and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.
Rescuers later recovered the body of the ship's cook, who was born in Canada and lived in Antigua. Several others are still missing, including one of Britain's most recognizable tech entrepreneurs, Mike Lynch, and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah.
'It was a big disaster,' boater says of storm that capsized luxury yacht
Salvo Cocina of Sicily's civil protection agency said Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, one of Lynch's lawyers, with the firm Clifford Chance, were also among the missing.
Cocina said the crew and passengers were from a variety of countries, including France, Germany, Ireland, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain.
The authorities have yet to determine what caused the yacht to capsize.
How bad was the storm?
Officials had expected poor weather, but the severity of the storm caught them off guard.
The Italian Air Force's Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology registered intense lightning activity and strong gusts of wind in the area when the ship sank, according to its director. Col. Attilio Di Diodato told the New York Times he could not rule out that it had been a waterspout — rotating columns of water that can form over the ocean.
Separetely, Cocina told journalists that a waterspout had hit the area overnight.
Karsten Börner, the captain of the nearby ship that helped survivors, said he struggled to control his ship during what he described as very strong winds.
'The ship behind us was gone,' says captain who rescued yacht passengers
A meteorologist said there was a higher risk of extreme weather in the Mediterranean Sea because recent storms and heavy rainfall after weeks of intense heat affected the water's temperature.
"The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 C, which is almost three degrees more than normal. This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms," Luca Mercalli told Reuters.
"We can't say that this is all due to global warming but we can say that it has an amplifying effect."
What kind of yacht was it?
The Bayesian was 56 metres long — about half the length of an NFL football field. Perini, an Italian firm, built the ship in 2008.
It was named for English statistician Thomas Bayes, whose theories of probability influenced the software Lynch developed.
Refitted in 2020, the ship was notable for its single 75-metre mast — one of the world's tallest made of aluminum. It was lit up at night, including just hours before it sank.
The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14. It was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening with a navigation status of "at anchor," according to vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.
According to the shipspotting.com website, the boat was owned by a firm called Revtom Limited. Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, who survived the sinking, is named as the sole shareholder of the firm on company documents.
Where is the wreck now?
Police divers spent the day trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting where it had been anchored at a depth of 50 metres off Porticello.
Rescuers returned to the site after 10 p.m. to see if it would be possible to search through the night, when weather conditions were expected to worsen, said Luca Cari, spokesman of the fire rescue service.
