The Captain's Yacht is available for purchase at Earth Spacedock , Deep Space 9 in the shipyard after obtaining 400 Day Veteran status.

A large auxiliary craft built into the design of several starships, the use of the Captain's Yacht  is a privilege extended to captains with exceptional standing in Starfleet. The Captain's Yacht is a Veteran Reward attained after 400 days of active subscription to the game. Upon unlocking the reward, the Yacht can be purchased from a Shuttle Vendor.

In order to claim the "Shuttle Requisition Authorization" token, you must speak to a separate, nearby NPC and state "I'd like to requisition another Captain's Yacht," even if this is your first one.

Release date: February 18, 2011 The Captain's Yacht is a Tier 1 ( Level 1) Small Craft which may be flown by Starfleet characters. All faction restrictions of this starship can be removed by having a level 65 KDF character or by purchasing the Cross Faction Flying unlock from the Zen Store .

Players can obtain this starship from any Ship and Shuttle Requisitions officer if they are a 400-day Veteran or a lifetime subscriber . In order to claim the "Shuttle Requisition Authorization" token, you must speak to a separate, nearby NPC and state "I'd like to requisition another Captain's Yacht," even if this is your first one.

Standard configuration

Federation shuttles come with Standard Issue-S equipment and weapons that scale with the player. Additionally, shuttles have specialized beam arrays that have a 360-degree targeting arc. These do not come standard on other ships, but can be equipped on any other type of vessel.

The Captain's Yacht is comparable to the Danube or Yellowstone runabouts, but has an extra device slot.

A Sovereign -class captain's yacht.

The captain's yacht was a type of auxiliary vessel installed aboard several classes of Federation starships in the 24th century , including the Galaxy -class and Sovereign -classes . On both designs, the yacht is launched from the underside of the saucer section and was used by the ship's captain to travel alone or to host visiting dignitaries.

While Captain Jean-Luc Picard commanded the USS Enterprise -D , he didn't often use the yacht in his eight years in command. This trend continued during his command of the USS Enterprise -E . While rarely using the yacht, he lost the Cousteau following a Son'a attack in 2375 and the Calypso was stolen by the Androssi and later destroyed in 2378 . It’s like Shaka all over again – walls falling all over the place!

With the release of Star Trek Online ’s 11 th Anniversary update, we are releasing a feature that will allow players of all factions to fly the starship of their choice, regardless of the default allegiance associated with that ship.

Does this mean a KDF Dahar Master can finally command a Section 31 Command Heavy Battlecruiser? It certainly does!

Does this mean a dedicated Federation Admiral can now sit at the helm of a D4x Kelvin Pilot Bird-of-Prey? That’s true, as well!

Read on to learn what you can do to unlock this new account-wide feature!

True to the Empire

Access to this game-changing feature will be automatically granted to any and all accounts that have a character that reaches Level 65 as a member of the Klingon Defense Force. Species is unimportant, so long as that captain began his or her career aboard a Klingon vessel, even if they are Gorn, Orion, Nausicaan, or any of the other citizens of the modern Klingon Empire that don’t call Qo’noS their homeworld.

This means that members of the Romulan Republic or The Dominion that are allied with the KDF do not qualify to meet this requirement. The character must be fully dedicated to the Empire, and not just an ally.

This includes accounts that already have a Level 65 KDF character! Simply log into the game on that character to have their status verified, and access to Cross-Faction Starships will be automatically unlocked.

Financial Superiority

For players looking to skip the level-up process and jump straight into the unrestricted fun of flying any ship they like, there will be the option to purchase this unlock from the Zen Store for the cost of 2,000 Zen.

Special Introductory Pricing! On PC, from January 26 th , 2021 until the end of the Anniversary Event on February 25 th , 2021, this special unlock will be discounted 50% OFF , leaving the price at only 1,000 Zen.

What’s Included?

We have done our best to ensure that the freedom that coincides with this feature will meet player expectations, and thus have arranged for all of the following to be updated for player use, regardless of Allegiance, for players that have unlocked this feature:

• Admiralty Ships
• Registry and Prefixes
• Bridges and Interiors
• Experimental Weapons
• Hangar Pets
• … etc.

This does not mean that restrictions have been entirely removed, however. For example, Experimental Weapons will still only be usable on starships that have an Experimental Weapon Slot, and ship class restrictions that may exist on certain Hangar Pets will remain in place.

Obtaining the Cross-Faction Starship unlock will also un-restrict existing purchases from the Zen Store, allowing Klingons to claim Federation ships and bundles, and vice versa, if you already own them. The Zen Store and Starship Vendors have been updated to contain additional cross-faction reclaim options for any account with the feature unlocked.

Since players will now have a way to access Starships they previously could not, we have chosen to remove many “Cross-Faction Packs” that were previously available in places like the Lobi Store, and some Lock Box or Promo Packs. The packs we’re referring to are those that contained only the Console, Starship Trait, and similar items, and were offered to members of the opposite faction when a certain premium Starship could not be flown by their chosen faction.

Existing versions of these packs will remain unchanged, but new ones will no longer be accessible. To unlock the features they previously contained, you may now obtain the Starship with which they are associated.

Hero Collector Debuts New Ships, Books at NYCC

New York Comic-Con has gone digital this year, with a host of Metaverse panels for fans to watch online. Hero Collector took the opportunity to host its own, and made a wealth of Star Trek announcements in a conversation between their Brand Manager Chris Thompson and Editorial Manager Ben Robinson. You can watch the full panel here, but we’ve assembled a convenient round-up below…

A SPECIAL SHIP FOR NYCC METAVERSE – A GOLDEN ENTERPRISE

A special release for the NYCC Metaverse, limited to 1000 copies worldwide, this 22cm model of the Enterprise-D has been cast in incredible detail and plated in 18-carat gold. It would fit right next to the “little ships” on display in Picard’s cabinet in Star Trek: First Contact –?but we don’t advise you break it, no matter how angry the Borg make you.

NEW COLLECTION FOR NEW STAR TREK SHOWS – PICARD , DISCOVERY , AND MORE

Ben announced that the Star Trek: Discovery Starships Collection would be ending at #33 –?but only to pass the torch to a new collection, set to begin its voyage in April 2021! Designed at the same scale as its predecessor, to keep your collections compatible, this new series will feature detailed replicas of ships from Discovery , Picard , and Strange New Worlds – everything a modern Trek fan could ask for!

The first four ships in this new collection were also announced at the panel, all from Picard : the signature La Sirena , the U.S.S. Zheng-He that Riker led into action (spoilers!), the modern update to the classic Romulan Bird-of-Prey, and Seven of Nine’s Fenris Ranger ship.

NEW SHIPS IN THE STAR TREK: DISCOVERY STARSHIPS COLLECTION

#30 – section 31 shiva-class.

Sleek, deadly, and advanced, the mysterious starships fielded by Section 31 have been given names at last, as part of Hero Collector's Star Trek: Discovery Starships Collection! The secretive Starfleet agency named their classified vessels after divine warriors –?this 2-nacelled design was dubbed the "Shiva-class", after the Hindu destroyer-god.

#31 – Klingon Batlh-Class

An escort vessel employed by the Great Houses of the Klingon Empire, and named for the Klingon concept of honor, the Batlh-class spearheaded the assault on the U.S.S. Shenzou – and the Federation as a whole – in the Battle at the Binary Stars. The Batlh-class’ distinctive, doughty design features an elongated hull with a raised spine, and twinned warp nacelles flanking its rounded bow.

#32 – Section 31 Hou Yi-Class

Named for the mythological Chinese archer who shot down the sun, the medium-sized, four-nacelled Hou Yi-class was a starship developed in secret to pursue Section 31’s shadowy goals. It was deployed by the rogue artificial intelligence Control to attack the U.S.S. Discovery and U.S.S. Enterprise , near the planet Xahea.

STAR TREK : THE OFFICIAL STARSHIPS COLLECTION UNVEILS NEW SPECIALS AND XLs

Special #25 – son’a collector ship.

The Son'a Collector Ship – or “The Injector” – was key to the plans of the narcissistic Son’a in Star Trek: Insurrection , designed to harvest the metaphysic radiation of an entire planet… regardless of the cost to its inhabitants. Fortunately, Jean-Luc Picard was on hand to sabotage the massive, elegantly fluted vessel. Hero Collector reconstructed this ship with the help of designer John Eaves, as its original render had long-since been lost.

XL #23 – U.S.S. Enterprise ( Star Trek 2009 )

Star Trek returned to the big screen in 2009, with J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster hit film, and everything got an update – including Matt Jefferies’ classic design for the Starship Enterprise. This new interpretation had a sleeker, more muscular look than the ‘60s original – a “hot rod”, as Abrams’ requested.

Ben also announced the next ship to get the XL treatment – the Delta Flyer , the shuttle cobbled together by the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager . It’s the smallest starship yet in Hero Collector’s biggest starship collection!

STAR TREK ONLINE: THE STARSHIPS COLLECTION EXTENDED TO 20 SHIPS

This figurine collection reproduces the original ships created for Star Trek Online, the massively multiplayer video game based on Star Trek . Next up is the Federation’s Pathfinder-Class Science Vessel, but Ben confirmed that the series will continue past ten ships – with #11 being the formidable Avenger-Class Battlecruiser!

#7 –?Federation Pathfinder-Class Science Vessel

A long-range science vessel available to Starfleet players in Star Trek Online, the Pathfinder-class was developed as part of Operation Delta Rising, to serve a new generation of explorers and scientists. Inspired by the Intrepid-class of the late 24th century, it combines robust scientific equipment with impressive speed and extended mission endurance.

NEW BOX SET OF STAR TREK : SHUTTLECRAFT

#7 – docking shuttle, captain's yacht calypso, cyrano jones' spacematic, type-9a shuttlecraft.

A true deep dive into Star Trek designs, this box set includes replicas of four little-seen shuttlecraft – and one that never appeared on-screen at all! These shuttles are each accompanied by an "Okudagram" schematic, created by Star Trek and NASA graphic designer Mike Okuda.

The Captain’s Yacht “Calypso”, which docked beneath the saucer section of the Enterprise-D , TNG’s Docking Shuttle, built by Dan Curry from a broken GoBot foot, Cyrano Jones’ “Spacematic” shuttle, which made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in "Trials And Tribble-ations," and the Type-9A cargo shuttle – which made its debut in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual.

NEW STAR TREK BOOKS – SHIPYARDS, MANUALS, DESIGNERS, AND MORE

Hero Collector’s range of Star Trek books continued to grow at NYCC! Ben Robinson announced two new volumes of Star Trek: Shipyards for early 2021, both of which will focus on the Delta Quadrant to cover the huge variety of starships that appeared in Star Trek: Voyager . The Illustrated Handbooks – beautifully-illustrated technical manuals, packed with color artwork – covered Voyager earlier this year, and will see a new volume at the beginning of next year, dedicated to Deep Space Nine .

Also highlighted were wholly new lines of books – Hero Collector’s Nerdsearch is a series of hardback, 40-page puzzle books for adult fans of pop culture, offering double-page illustrations of classic scenes from Emmy-winning cartoonist Glenn Dakin. The twist? They’re all wrong. You’ll have to muster all your Trek knowledge to nitpick your way to victory in Star Trek: Quibbles with Tribbles !

Out in time for Christmas will be Star Trek Cocktails: A Stellar Companion , featuring 40 cocktails inspired by the characters of Star Trek – from Sisko’s Sazerac (he’s from New Orleans, after all) to an Earl Grey Martini for Jean-Luc Picard. It’s packed with mixing advice and fun illustrations, the perfect guide to festive drinks.

Star Trek Voyager: A Celebration is the definitive retrospective for that amazing series, featuring 30 interviews with principle cast members, insight from writers, details from designers, and more. Ben described it as "a convention in a book" – perfect for those of us who've found conventions a little thin on the ground, this year.

Finally, Mr. Spock's Little Book of Mindfulness offers a much-needed injection of Vulcan wisdom – a humorous, illustrated guide to living your life with all the logic and objectivity of Mr. Spock itself. Plus, you can share its lessons of philosophy with mugs, t-shirts and prints featuring Glenn Dakin’s brilliant cartoons.

Elite Captain Training Token

Elite Captain Training Tokens can be used to upgrade your player character to Elite status. An "Elite" designation will also be appended to the character's chosen career path , for example a Starfleet Tactical Officer would become an Elite Starfleet Tactical Officer.

This boost unlocks one additional Personal Space Trait slot , one Personal Ground Trait slot , one Personal Ground Device slot , and one Kit Module slot for the character that is upgraded. Additionally, the player is given an "Elite" player title for use. Elite Captain Training Tokens can be applied once per character on the account.

In order to apply this token, navigate to your Captain status window and click on the Upgrade button below the image of your Captain to perform the upgrade.

The Calypso was a Federation captain's yacht that was in service with Starfleet in the mid- 24th century , attached to Galaxy -class starships , among others the USS Enterprise -D . ( Star Trek: The Next Generation ) In 2371 , it scraped on the surface of the planet Veridian III , where the ship's saucer section had been forced to crash land . ( Star Trek Generations )

Probert's take on the captain's yacht

Calypso was the name for the yacht in the notes to the captain's yacht entry of the Star Trek Encyclopedia  (3rd ed., p. 83). With the latest edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia  (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 117), the name was changed to Cousteau .

The captain's yacht was the brainchild of Andrew Probert when he beefed out the details of his Galaxy -class design. Probert postulated, " In the original show the dome on the bottom of the ship was a sensor array . What I did was move the sensor array to more of a surrounding detail, leaving the dome on the bottom free. That's where I put the captain's yacht , which is a private vessel for dignitaries and captains of ships to use as personal shuttles . That was never used in the show. At one point there was a script where Picard was returning to the ship and the dialogue was, "The captain's shuttle is on the way back. Crew members, man your stations." Then the captain comes aboard. We never ever have a visual, so I suggested mentioning the yacht, but they decided against it. " ( Star Trek: The Magazine  Volume 1, Issue 16 , p. 55)

Captain's yachts did not become part of Trek canon until the debut of the USS Enterprise -E 's Cousteau in Star Trek: Insurrection .

Calypso particulars

Calypso explored

The Calypso was never seen in use or mentioned in dialogue, but its name came from the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual and the Star Trek Encyclopedia  (3rd ed., p. 83). It was named for Jacques-Yves Cousteau 's ship Calypso by Patrick Stewart . Production staff wanted to use the yacht in episodes such as TNG : " The Neutral Zone " and " Samaritan Snare ", but budget restrictions prohibited building a miniature and sets.

Authors Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda delved somewhat deeper into the specifics of the Calypso when upgrading their writings for the much (color) enhanced 1992 Impel trading cards set, Star Trek: The Next Generation - Inaugural Edition (card 111).
