SOL Yacht Charter

Sol yacht description.

Launching in 2023, SÓL presents silent luxury and the future of sustainability and technology. SOL's expansive 80' x 39' design offers vast bow, cockpit, saloon and flybridge areas equal to yachts twice SOL's length. This ECO Sunreef collects the sun to drive its electric motors for clean power yachting. Carefully selected materials, systems and practices place people and planet first. The finest cuisine choices include fully planted-based cruises, or the finest of any culinary preferences. SÓL’s social spaces feature comfortable seating areas crafted from natural materials. Wraparound windows frame the light and airy main salon for ocean-view panoramas, which continue in the flybridge above. SÓL’s interior blends seamlessly with the outside through aft glass doors that open to an extensive indoor-outdoor living space. An amazing crew of four (4) to make your charter experience a memorable one.

Offered by DMA Yachting, the impressive charter yacht SOL is a 80 ft power catamaran featuring a jetski and a hot tub. The highlights of SOL are her generous space and alfresco dining areas. SOL spends the summer season in the Bahamas. She was completed by the renowned boatbuilder Sunreef Yachts in 2023. The ingenious yacht layout features 4 cozy cabins and comfortably accommodates a maximum of 8 guests.

SOL is offered primarily as a power catamaran. The yacht layout radiates from the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck is expansive, with a comfortable dining and seating area and usually it is where you, as a charter guest, spend most of your time. The modern cabins are connected by stairs to the main saloon - roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The cabins are located in the 2 massive hulls. Multiple portholes supply a sunny feeling, with the option for darkness and privacy.

She has been a successful yacht chef since 2013 and obtained her Yachtmaster, Aida 2 Free diving certification and Rescue scuba Diving during this time. CHEF Sara was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. Although seemingly landlocked she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cabin in nearby Minnesota. Her parents raised her amongst many friends and family, always entertaining guests. Instilling a warm sense of hospitality in her personality from a young age. Having been raised on a farm, surrounded by agriculture and produce from the garden, her relationship with food has always been an important one. She is passionate about knowing where food comes from, and sources the freshest, locally grown produce and freshly caught fish. With over 6 years experience cooking aboard yachts, a yacht chef certificate, and a year cooking privately land-based, Sara is thrilled and ready to welcome guests aboard Sol for a sensory experience. She loved it so much she decided to move to the Caribbean and make it her career. Blake is elated to now be joining the Sol team. Her pleasant, “Minnesota Nice” demeanor and charming personality make her a wonderful Stewardess, ready to greet and care for guests. She loves to whip up cocktails, share wild travel stories, and will make you feel right at home!

80 sunreef power series sunreef yachts eco catamaran

First look inside 80 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran Sól

Following her US debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , Sunreef Yachts has offered a first look inside the 23.8-metre Sól. The catamaran was delivered in September as the first unit in Sunreef's 80 Power Eco series.

Custom-built for a family of environmentally minded yacht owners, Sól touts a stand-out design that includes the "biggest battery bank" seen on a sub-24-metre leisure craft.

Combining a 990kWh battery (with an almost one-megawatt-hour capacity) and 200 square metres of composite-integrated solar panels, Sól can achieve e-motoring autonomy for close to 300 nautical miles. Her range extender, charging system and ability to transform any voltage available in harbours allow the model to cruise even further.

Accommodation is for eight guests across one king and three queen en suite cabins. There is further space for a complement of four crew. Sól' s main saloon benefits from wraparound windows that curate an airy, bright social space with far-reaching ocean views. Glass doors aft open up to an extensive indoor-outdoor living space that includes an al fresco dining table for eight. While full interior details have not been disclosed, all décor, furniture and finishes are vegan.

Leisure highlights include a sundeck Jacuzzi, barbecue, heated deck showers and a spacious swim platform that doubles as a tender garage for a Williams Sportjet 520 tender. There's also storage for a variety of water toys, including Seabobs, e-bikes and water skis.

Elsewhere, the catamaran exhibits green-minded features such as a DC-powered air conditioning system, a watermaking and purifying system to generate drinking water, non-toxic bottom paint and natural composite structures.

The news follows the reveal of Sunreef Yachts' zero-emission, clean-hydrogen catamaran "Zero Cat", currently in development with the shipyard's R&D department. There are at least two more 80 Sunreef Power Eco models on the water and undergoing outfitting at Sunreef Yachts.

Gold Vision, Green Soul: Sol, the stunning 80 Sunreef Power Eco

  • July 13, 2023

Sol, a bright-gold 80 Sunreef Power Eco, is being delivered to a family preparing to enjoy the 24m catamaran in the US and Caribbean.

Sol, an 80 Sunreef Power Eco

Sunreef Yachts is in the process of delivering a stunning, gold-hulled 80 Sunreef Power Eco to US-based owners with a strong passion for sustainability. Named Sol , the striking solar-electric luxury catamaran is the first publicised version of a Power model from Sunreef’s Eco Line and has been described as the “world’s most advanced electric motor yacht” by the Polish builder.

The builder’s first Eco sailing catamaran, a Sunreef 80 Eco, was launched early last year. Distinguished by her dark-blue hull, Marie-Joseph went on to exhibit at the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show last September, as well as this year’s Dubai International Boat Show in the UAE, where Sunreef is developing a new production facility.

Soon, there was more to come from the Eco line. Marie-Joseph was followed last year by a Sunreef 60 Eco sail cat and this year by the second Sunreef 80 Eco. It was then the turn of Sol , which was named in honour of the Norse sun goddess and launched in May at the builder’s second, larger production facility in the north-coast city of Gdansk.

Sol, also Spanish for sun, is an Eco version of the hugely popular 80 Sunreef Power, whose many owners include tennis star Rafa Nadal. Officially unveiled at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival, the 80 Power has already sold about 30 units between its standard and Eco versions, a staggering total considering the size of the 24m catamaran with a 12m beam.

Sol has two 360kW electric engines and 990kWh of batteries

However, eco-friendly propulsion and energy systems were priorities for Sol ’s owners, a family of experienced boat owners “deeply engaged in sustainability and looking for the perfect eco-responsible motor yacht”, according to Sunreef.

Sol features Sunreef’s revolutionary solar-power system, with panels fully integrated into the hull sides and superstructure, and has two 360kW engines and 990kWh of batteries. The yacht also features an energy-saving air-conditioning system and smart energy management, while the tailored layout and décor includes four en-suite cabins to accommodate eight guests.

CHOOSING SUNREEF

The yacht’s owners have a long history in yachting. Spending time on the water since childhood, they’ve raced sailboats and cruised extensively in New England, Florida and the Bahamas with family boats, also chartering in the British Virgin Islands.

“Our three generations of close-knit families have enjoyed countless joyful experiences on board our family yachts, but the climate impact of large power yachts is significant,” the owners said.

“We’ve taken extensive steps to impact the climate crises, so we could only consider a motor yacht if it incorporated technologies that are rapidly scaling in other sectors such as solar energy and electric vehicles. Given our focus on sustainability broadly, only an electric ‘Eco’ boat aligned with our values.”

Having researched the market with The Catamaran Company and visited overseas shipyards “to determine who was genuinely and successfully advancing state-of-the-art with electric and sustainable yachting”, the owners decided to build with Sunreef Yachts.

“The result of our discovery process was clear,” the owners said. “Sunreef leads the industry with research and development, high-quality production, highly evaluated sourcing, and compelling on-water performance.”

BUILDING THE DREAM

The couple, their captain, designer and broker all worked directly with Sunreef throughout the project, interfacing remotely with the shipyard’s client-facing team, sometimes on a weekly basis.

“Sunreef allowed for significant input and choice on our part. While we’ve never designed and built a yacht, we’ve brought our style and ideas from our home and hospitality projects, and enjoyed learning and shaping our future marine home,” the owners said.

“On-site visits were extremely efficient in terms of making early design decisions about layout, material, colours and furnishings. Sunreef is a family-run, private company with a history of high achievement, and that culture is evident throughout the organisation.”

At time of writing, there was still work to be completed, with the owners planning to have the teak decking and most of the furniture installed in the US. Once it’s all done, the owners plan to spend summers on the yacht in the Northeast and winters in the Bahamas and the Caribbean, when the boat is not being chartered.

Sunreef 80ft - 2023

Yacht description.

Launched in 2023, SÓL presents silent luxury – this ECO Sunreef collects the sun to drive its electric motors for clean power yachting. Carefully selected materials, systems and practices place people and planet first. SOL’s expansive 80′ x 39′ design offers vast bow, cockpit, saloon and flybridge areas equal to yachts twice SOL’s length.

Accommodating up to eight guests in four spacious ensuite staterooms, SÓL is a great living space for family groups or couples. The king-sized master cabin sits amidships with a large bathroom with plenty of space, plus a queen-sized cabin forward and two further VIP queen-size staterooms. Each guest cabin has been designed for maximum space, with ample storage options and device charging stations. No expense has been spared in fitting out this yacht with top of the range bedding and luxurious touches throughout.

On decks there is a massive third floor flybridge with seating, bar and dining option. Forward there is a further seating and sunning area and at the back, to complete the trio, there is a sheltered cockpit for lazing or dining.

Our personal opinion

Why book SOL – IT’S GREEN –   SOL’s electric propulsion system runs silently and odor-free whenever possible. The large solar panels (21 kW) fuel battery banks, propulsion and house power needs. Generators are only run briefly, if necessary.  SOL’s waste management features on-board composting and disposal of single-use water bottles is eliminated with its on-board water-making and re-usable bottles.  All decor, furniture, and finishes are vegan (no animal products). Food is sourced from local growers as much as possible supporting small farmers. Oh, and also it’s completely luxurious! With four crew to take care of your every need, your charter aboard SOL will be an incredible experience.

I recently chartered the boat Sol for an unforgettable adventure in the British Virgin Islands, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Captain Jack orchestrated the perfect tour, navigating us through the stunning islands with expertise and charm. The staff, including Richard, Blake, and Mallory, were exceptional, adding to the overall amazing experience.

The boat itself, named Sol, was a beautiful haven for our family. Its comfort and elegance exceeded our expectations, providing a cozy retreat after each day’s exploration. The food was a delightful highlight, further enhancing our journey.

We are already eagerly anticipating our next charter with Sol. The combination of breathtaking scenery, outstanding staff, and the sheer beauty and comfort of the boat make it an experience we can’t wait to relive. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a perfect escape in the British Virgin Islands.

Rendezvous diving

sol yacht

If your crewed charter yacht does not offer onboard diving then fear not, rendezvous diving can be arranged.

So what is Rendezvous diving?

A local dive company will pick you up direct from your charter yacht at a pre-determined location and take you for a one- or two-tank dive to experience the BVI below the water. This is an excellent option if only a couple of guests wish to dive or can work equally as well if all your group are interested. If your charter yacht offers minimal onboard diving, then rendezvous diving can also work if you wanted to add a few more dives during your charter.

Rendezvous diving is at additional cost, payable locally. The dive company provides all gear.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

sol yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

sol yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

sol yacht

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

sol yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

sol yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

sol yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

sol yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

2024 Regata del Sol al Sol Registration Closing Soon

  • By Cruising World Staff
  • March 19, 2024

Sky sailboat

St. Petersburg Yacht Club has announced “last call” to register for the 52nd sailing of the Regata del Sol al Sol, an open yacht race from St. Petersburg to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

The open-water race across the Gulf of Mexico will feature sailboats, a minimum of 30 feet long with either ORC or West Florida PHRF handicaps. Events begin April 25, 2024, in St. Petersburg with seminars and a street party send-off.

Racing starts Friday, April 26, 2024, in the vicinity of the St. Petersburg Pier. The fleet races 456 nautical miles to the island of Isla Mujeres, off the coast of Cancun, in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Arriving racers may be greeted as early as Sunday and a week of events are planned in Mexico. The top three finishers in each class, an overall champion and other honors will be celebrated with awards at a dinner scheduled for May 3, 2024, in Isla Mujeres.

The historic race began as a challenge for open-water sailors after the St. Petersburg-to-Havana race could no longer be sailed to Fidel Castro’s Cuba. In its five-decade history, the race has recorded seconds-tight finishes and harrowing crossings. Today, it features GPS tracking devices to ensure boats arrive and return safely. The race was sailed annually until 2018, when it became a bi-annual event.

For more information about the race or to register, see the Notice of Race on yachtscoring.com . Other information can be found on the regatta website . The race can also be followed on Facebook .
