Visitors are welcome to temporarily berth on our Visitors Pontoon for up to 14 days.

Please register with the office, using form below:

APPROACHING CARDIFF BY DAY

When approaching Cardiff by day, the Rannie Buoy (Port Hand Buoy) marks the extremity of rocks and sand spit off Lavernock Point. The South Cardiff Cardinal Buoy marks the southern extremity of the Cardiff Grounds. From a position between the two buoys make a course for the Outer Wrach Buoy (West Cardinal Buoy). Follow the Wrach Channel and buoyage into the Cardiff Bay Barrage Outer Harbour.

APPROACHING CARDIFF BY NIGHT

When approaching from the South or West, leave the Rannie Buoy (Fl(2)R.5s) to PORT and the South Cardiff (FIQ(6)+LFl.15s) to STARBOARD. Steer a course for the Outer Wrach Buoy (FIQ(9).15s). You will pick up the Sector Lights for the Wrach Channel (oc 1Os RWG). Stay in the white sector until you pick up the buoyed channel for the Cardiff Bay Outer Harbour, and Sector Light (LFI. WRG.5s).

The 'preferred channel to starboard' mark at the start of the Barrage approach channel is for large vessels approaching ABP Cardiff. Visitors to the Barrage should leave this mark to starboard on approaching the Barrage Outer Harbour. Note: This has a flashing red light at night.

Note: Vessels coming from King Road (Avonmouth) are advised to use the South/West Approach. It is important that you keep a careful watch for large vessels as they are severely constrained by their draught and this restricts their ability to manoeuvre. It is also required that you maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch. 68 (Cardiff Radio) during this time.

When on your final approach, you should call 'Barrage Control' on VHF Ch. 18 to request a lock in. They will advise you of the next available lock and give the instruction when to enter the Outer Harbour.

When navigating in this part of the Bristol Channel you should use Admiralty Charts 1182 and 1176 and the appropriate pilot books. The information shown below is intended as an aid to navigation only and should not be relied upon for navigational use. Rather it should be used in conjunction with official charts and hydrographic data.

TIDAL ACCESS

Under normal circumstances, for average draft vessels (1.5m), full tidal access is possible. However, occasions will arise when the build-up of silt within the Outer Harbour will reduce access. Relevant information on draught and access will be passed on by 'Barrage Control' if the need arises. For present levels in the outer harbour, check out Cardiff Harbour Authority Website www. cardiffharbour.com 'Free Flow' (simultaneous opening of both inner and outer gates) is only possible through lock 1. Vessels requiring this service are required to submit a written request giving one month's notice. Letters should be addressed to the Barrage Team.

Cardiff Yacht Club is a traditional yacht club fully equipped to handle all the needs of recreational boat users that want to sail in the sheltered waters of Cardiff Bay or access the Bristol Channel via the 24\7 access to the sea.

The club is located in the most desirable part of Cardiff Bay, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and theatres. The view from the clubhouse bar is stunning and we have a panoramic view of the sailing within the bay and out over the sea to Somerset.

CYC is run completely by it's volunteer members and there are many dedicated individuals and teams that keep everything running smoothly.

The clubhouse is a purpose built building constructed for us in 2001 and has 2 bars, a large function room, training room, workshop, WiFi, kitchen and toilets with wet changing rooms with the warmest of showers. There is a covered elevated terrace and upstairs open patio and BBQ area. Also we have a further BBQ area on the ground floor where we hold our famous hog roasts. The kitchen serves freshly cooked hot food on Saturday between 10:00 am and 14:00 hrs and you will not find a better curry at any other yacht club. The car park is large enough to not worry about a space.

We have over 300 boats in the club that are located on either trot moorings or floating pontoons. These boats are secure in the sheltered bay and because the water is fresh water, it is normal for boats to remain in the water all year. We have an enthusiastic group of volunteers who are at the club most days maintaining and expanding the clubs moorings and facilities. There is a drinking water supply to the pontoons.

Security at CYC is taken very seriously with many measures to keep the area safe. The area is fenced off from the surrounding area and entry to the main car park (both in and out) is via key fob operated security gates. The area beyond the car park is protected by a high fence and is also locked at all times and is key fob operated . The club is active with helpful members regularly in attendance on the club premises.

We have a fully equipped boat yard with water and mains, pressure washers, boat supports and has its own deep water slipway with 2 mobile boat hoists. New in 2015 is a HIAB 1 tonne crane mounted beside the deep water jetty . The boat yard has a super committed team of volunteers who dedicate themselves to making sure the boat yard is well managed and operated safely.

We have two dinghy safety boats (RIBs) and 2 dinghy slipways. Dinghies are stored on either hard standing areas close to the jetties or within a special inner secure area. Our training school offers dinghy courses for adults and children, powerboat courses, and navigation theory courses.

Multi-storey - 1239 spaces, opening times, payment options.

Easy to get in, but to get out is a nightmare, you have to queue for the payment machines and then queue in your car to exit. Example - left Millennium Centre at 1045pm; exited car park at 1157pm. Will park elsewhere in future!

A little more expensive on week days but good value on weekends. Feels secure but hard to tell with most car parks.

Pay and display street parking in this area is free for the first hour but make sure you put a ticket on your car or the wardens will not know when you arrived and will assume you are parked illegally.

Very nice and cheap. Ideal for going out in the evening to the red dragon centre or watch a show at Millenium centre. Just remember to keep the token safe it gives you that is blue and the same size as a £2 coin

Marks and spencer sale.

Marks and Spencer is a British multinational retailer operating under the M&S brand. It is one marks and spencer sale of the largest clothing retailers in the world and the largest selling clothing retailer in the United Kingdom. With over 700 stores located throughout the UK, Marks & Spencer offers a wide range of products including clothing, homewares, beauty products and electrical goods.

Marks & Spencer began as a small family run drapery business in Leeds in 1884. It was founded by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer, who were both Jewish immigrants from Germany. The company expanded rapidly during the early 20th century by opening new stores across Britain and Ireland. By 1926 Marks & Spencer had opened 100 stores across Britain and Ireland but then suffered a decline between the 1930s and 1940s due to competition from Woolworth’s & John Lewis. In 1964 M&S acquired an exclusive licence to sell Barbizon products which allowed them to expand their clothing range with ready-to-wear as well as lingerie lines for women and children’s clothes for girls aged 2–14 years old; this proved popular with customers who could now buy clothes that fit correctly without having to alter them at home first!

Plan for new waterfront district in Cardiff Bay revealed

P lans for a major mixed-use waterside development in Cardiff Bay with up to 1,200 apartments, new office and retail space, and a hotel and serviced apartments have been revealed. The proposed new district for the capital is from Cardiff Peninsula Consortium, which is being led by regeneration specialist Orion Land and Leisure.

Orion has begun a public consultation on its Cardiff Peninsula proposals, which subject to planning approvals would be developed in phases. The scheme is earmarked for a land site between the International Sports Village and Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.

Cardiff Peninsula could see between 900 and 1,200 new homes as well as new office space, and a hotel and serviced apartments. There are also plans for a new water taxi stop, public land, and car parking for more than 1,100 vehicles. The scheme could also see retail and hospitality units, a garden centre, public space for the screening of live sporting events, a shipping container-style food court, padel courts, crazy golf, and an outdoor gym.

A spokesman for the project said: “Cardiff Peninsula is a truly unique place. How many other European capital cities have such a significant and important underdeveloped site surrounded by water? We have assembled an incredibly talented and award-winning design team which has been working extremely hard to deliver what is in effect a new district of the city centre. Although our designs are at an early stage we really want local people and businesses to engage and give us their views. This must be a site that delivers a vibrant 21st century addition to Cardiff city centre.”

The developer said Cardiff Peninsula will “maximise biodiversity benefits” with its landscape architect having reached out to the National Botanic Garden of Wales to seek their advice and support. However in its consultation document Orion said that technical challenges “cannot be underestimated” with difficult ground conditions do to previous industrial uses, maintaining flood defence, as well the need for a comprehensive energy strategy with associated infrastructure to provide energy for the entire development. The document adds: "But importantly, and perhaps most challenging of all, the new development must be designed to integrate seamlessly with the many existing residents and businesses that already live and work on Cardiff Peninsula.”

Before September Cardiff Council is requesting that Orion submit an outline planning application for the masterplan of the site alongside a detailed planning application for the first plot. The first phase of the scheme could secure planning approval in the first quarter of next year with work then commencing shortly after. Further planning applications would then submitted in the third quarter of 2025. The first round of public consultation for Cardiff Peninsula will take place at the Vindico Arena from January 29-31.

I really enjoyed my time here, even though there is defintely an air of something a little bit pompous. However, if you try to forget that (or better yet, embrace it, call each other 'dahling' and talk about how much money Tarquin earnt last year) then you actually will have a good time. The prices aren't cheap, but you wouldn't expect them to be here. It's the kind of place that you would go to if you wanted what my parents would call a 'civilised' drink, without being hassled by people who can't handle their alcohol. I am disappointed to hear that the manager has been rude to customers because I think that shows a lack of customer focus. Go on a sunny day and sip your drink quietly. Lovely.

Photo of Claire B.

They don't even deserve a star ! The loud overbearing and rude manager will spoil anyone's time ! Do not waste your money on drinks there... unless you are really intent on spending time with other pompous customers and having the manager have a go at you for something random !

Photo of Qype User (2010ca…)

Lovely location but booked for a function there and had a terrible time. The manager did her best to spoil the day, bullying myself and speaking rudely at guests as if it people were in her own house ? Do not attempt !

Cardiff Peninsula project

Cardiff could be getting a spectacular new waterfront district

It’s hoped that the Cardiff Peninsula project will be a ‘vibrant 21st century addition’ to the city

Amy Houghton

Home to the Senedd and Wales ’s Millennium Centre,  Cardiff Bay is already an exciting hub of food, politics and culture within the Welsh capital. But city planners are currently in talks to make it even better.

Cardiff Peninsula is the new name that’s been given to the stretch of land between the International Sports Village and Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. After  months of design by Cardiff Peninsula Consortium, proposals for what the area could eventually look like have officially been released.

Plans include up to 1,200 apartments and a new office and retail space, as well as serviced apartments and a hotel. There are also plans for a new water taxi stop and extensive parking space, plus more exciting stuff like a shipping container-style food court, padel courts, crazy golf and screens for live sporting events.

As well as all that, developers want to ‘maximise biodiversity benefits’ of the space and have sought advice from the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

The project is still in the very, very early stages and there’s going to be a bunch of consultations throughout 2024, starting this week. Additional planning applications are due to be submitted in early 2025.

A spokesperson for the peninsula said: ‘Cardiff Peninsula is a truly unique place. How many other European capital cities have such a significant and important underdeveloped site surrounded by water?

‘We have assembled an incredibly talented and award winning design team which has been working extremely hard to deliver what is in effect a new district of the city centre.

‘Although our designs are at an early stage, we really want local people and businesses to engage and give us their views. This must be a site that delivers a vibrant 21st century addition to Cardiff city centre.’

Here’s a sneak peak at an artist’s impression of the scheme.

FaceBook

We’re aware of an issue with this stream

cardiff bay yacht club parking

On this webcam provided by Cardiff Bay Yacht Club you’ll get some great views of Cardiff Bay and the yacht club as it pans around.

Very considerately they’ve added titles of the various locations that appear on the cam so you’ll know exactly what you’re looking at. If you’re checking the cam out because you’re heading there for a visit, you’ll now know your way around better than the back of your hand.

When the Bascule Bridges of the Cardiff Bay Barrage appear it does look like the War of the Worlds is about to take place, it’s not. The barrage keeps the water in the harbour even when the tide is out. Might not look too pretty, but it’s a major feat of engineering and slightly more attractive than the squidgy mudflats that used to be exposed every time there was a low tide.
