Yacht Charter Murter

Murter is the largest inhabited island of the archipelago Kornati. The rotating bridge connects Murter to the mainland. The marinas in four different places on the island of Murter, Betina, Jezna, Murter and Tisno are the perfect starting point for charter trips to the Kornati islands. The islands of Kornati National Park is owned by the inhabitants of Murter. Although each location has its own marina, the largest among these is the Marina Hrmina in Murter. Murter has a stunning nature, with many bays. Murter is not a place of great cultural history, the island impresses by its natural wealth. Reefs, bays, cliffs, olives and vineyards, the Vrana lake, the Murter Sea and of course the Kornati archipelago. The Island tells the story of young people who have wrested in the past centuries the natural fruit.

Insel Murter Kroatien

If you start your sailing cruise on Murter you should look at the Gajetas, the original vessel from Murter, the residents went on them to their plots on the Kornati islands and they are still in use.

The inhabitants of the village Murter are called Kurnatare. They own almost all the islands in the Kornati National Park. Former peasants, they became in  the 19th century sea mariners, fishermen and shipbuilders. Many votive chapels show the hard life in this period.

Marina Murter

Marina Hramina in the village Murter houses most charter companies. A small supermarket supplies the sailors with the essentials. A large supermarket in the south of the bay os good for purchases of food. The nearby central village square has many restaurants, cafes and shops. Marina Betina is located in the northeast of the island. A large folklore festival is held there every year in early August. Marina Hramina and Marina Betina  can only be entered from the north because of the lift bridge at Tisno. But many rocks and shoals make this a difficult passage, to be sure, it is recommended to sail from the north between O. Arta Velika and along the mainland. This path is well buoyed. Jezera and Tisno are fairly straightforward to drive from the south.

Information Marina Murter

In the distant year 1938 due to the approval of PRIMORSKA Banovina on behalf of the shipbuilder from Murter Markov Mira the first shipbuilding activities for the development and repairing of small boats was established. In 1948 with the national act of the Republic of Croatia under the number 9283 III / 2 the private shipbuilding was banned. Further on the private property went into cooperative ownership.

In the period from 1948 to 1974, different forms of shipbuilding service activities (repair and construction of new timber ships) alternated. In addition, a company for the engine repair (mechanical work) was formed.

In 1974, the labor organization SLANICA organized a working unit of the listed customer service, services in shipbuilding and mechanism.

In 1979, the labor organization SLANICA formed the organization MARINA BRODOSERVIS (= ship service), which offers complete customer service to the local population and the owners of motor boats and yachts. In that year, a 15 - ton crane was purchased and a plateau for ship adoption cemented, so that contracts for the storage of vessels were closed for the whole year. Therefore is the year 1979 taken as the year when Marina "HRAMINA" began with their true activity.

In 1983 as a part of the work organization SLANICA the basic organization of associated labor (GVA) MARINA HRAMINA Murter was constituted. The number of ships that used the storage and the customer service was getting bigger and marina also became famous among the Austrian, German and Italian markets. There was already a charter fleet "Adria Yacht Club" Vienna, Austria (they had in the beginning only 5 vessels and in the later years grew to 40 ships, renamed itself in Adria Yacht Center and became one of the largest charter airline in the Adriatic area). New quays were built and boaters were provided with more content.

From 1983 to 1988, the offer of the Marina became complete. The main object was developed with restaurant, sanitation, duty free shop etc. The charter fleet became the largest fleet in the Adriatic, with over 120 charter vessels of the company "SAS" Zadar. With the "AYC" - ships the number of vessels increased to over 160. The Regatta "Murter Kornati Cup", which takes place in April each year, is part of the tradition and attracts a large number of competitors every year.

In 1988, the GVA MARINA HRAMINA was organized and the work organization MARINA HRAMINA Murter was constituted. According to the estimation of the tourist patrol, the marina takes the second place on the Adriatic with their content, service, location and beauty.

In 1989, MARINA HRAMINA was registered under the name Marina HRAMINA, as a nautical tourism company with full liability, Murter, Put Gradine bb. It reached its culmination after the inlets of ships in transit and after the signed contracts. A new 50-tonnes - Travel lift was bought, new plans were made and capacity expansion projects were designed in order to improve the service. Ships in transit went up to 7,000 pieces during the sailing season. The contract number of individual ship owners for the annual mooring on the mainland reached 320, with the chartered vessels accounted for (160) 480 ships.

In the years 1990 - 1996, the Marina, as well as the majority of tourism businesses experienced a stagnation due to the war, from which it is recovering only slowly in recent years. However, we can emphasize that the Marina "Hramina" in time, while the grenades fell north (Biograd, Zadar) and south (Vodice, Biograd), had its loyal guests. So it had in the most difficult days over 170 vessels under contract.

In 2001, the marina has been registered with the transformation of the company as a trading company named MARINA HRAMINA AG for nautical tourism, with its seat in Murter, Put Gradine bb.,. In 2002 the new company Marina Hramina d.o.o. for nautical tourism was founded, which received on 24. 10.2002 a license to use the port Hramina by the Government of the Republic of Croatia. The marina was enriched with new content (service, repair shops, stores of marine equipment, an extended parking and new restrooms). At the same time the interior (restaurant, terrace, bar, reception) and the exterior (parking, coast, green) were improved.

In 2003, the concession of the Marina Hramina d.o.o. was extended from 17.04.2003 until 31.12.2037 by decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. A wine cellar and restaurant were purchased on the island Ravni Žakan of the Kornati Archipelago and the main pier was prepared. Furthermore, many other improvements have been made.

View of the coast of Murter Croatia

The marina has its own restaurant with the name "Butina", with a capacity of 400 guests and a terrace overlooking the sea. You can enjoy here various seafood, but also the continental cuisine.

Cafe bar with terrace, is open until late at night.

The Bootel "Stomorin" has 10 rooms of the half apartment type (36 beds). The rooms overlook the sea and have a balcony and toilet facilities (in the main building, and in the entrance building).

The marina has its own wine cellar named Zakan, which is located on the island Ravni Zakan. Besides a safe berth, we offer a local cuisine with fish and meat specialities  a la Kornati.

Murter Island is a small Croatian island with a surface area of 17.57 km2 and a length of 42km. It is located in the far north of the Sibenik archipelago, with exceptionally gorgeous beaches, romantic scenery, and a range of lovely resorts with spectacular old villages. The Island of Murter is positioned 60 km from Zadar and 25 km from Sibenik. It’s connected to the land via a drawbridge.

The best part, though, are all the hidden beaches and coves, like Slanica Beach and Podvorska Bay, which are two of the best beaches on the Croatian coast. Murter Island and its beaches are one of the best places to visit during the summer months. Some of the beaches on this island are also sandy beaches.

Murter Town is a stunning old town with its cobbled streets and charming show harbour, where you can spot lots of traditional wooden boats bobbing in the sea. It’s definitely worth a visit!

The scenery of colourful and partially ancient townhouses in the town of Tisno is really stunning and is best admired while strolling down the gorgeous promenade.

The history of Murter and the Kornati islands is not filled with crucial events, famous rulers, brave conquerors or great painters. It is not the kind of history you would be reading about in history books or admire in museums. It is history written by miles of dry walls on pastures of the Kornati islands, olive-groves and vineyards rising in the middle of nothing, on small pieces of land stolen from the Karst; a history of small ports, perfectly shaped boats, houses made of stone and arched streets. When you make a trip around the Kornati or Murter, it becomes clear that thousands of human destinies speak through these walls. They tell the story of a common man and his attempts to make this rough landscape of a place to live in. They sing an ode to human persistence and will power.

The town of Murter numbering 2000 inhabitants in the middle of the Adriatic, lies between the towns of Sibenik 30km and Zadar 50km away. It is located on the island of Murter, the point of departure for the Kornati Islands.

The Kornati National Park, which includes a bigger part of Kornati archipelago, covers an area of 218km sq. and consists of 89 islands, islets and reefs. An impressive contrast between bare, almost desert like land and a rich and homogeneous underwater world is the best feature of the area.

The fascinating crowns (cliffs) on the islands facing the open sea, a remarkable geomorphology of the sea bed, the mystical submarine world and amazing harmony of nature and man that inhabits the area are only a few of the numerous priceless properties adorning this region.

With the cleanest seas, one of the most-indented coastlines, a Mediterranean climate, beautiful nature and hospitable hosts. Discover its secrets and find out how a small country can become a fascinating discovery for tourists who would like to explore the unspoiled nature, rich cultural heritage and extensive offer of cultural events.

If you are into beautiful islands this is one of the best places for you. Murter is the famous and most beautiful island present on the Adriatic coast of Croatia which makes it the best place where you can spend your summer vacations.

The Murter aquatorium and Kornati archipelago are intersected by as many as 14 maritime canals, gates and passages. Because of vicinity of Kornati islands , safe and well-equipped marinas, Murter became and important center of nautical tourism.

There are approximately 5 marinas together on Murter and on Kornati islands , and in the town itself there is a shipyard which is equipped to build smaller and medium-sized boats.

Besides Murter, which is the largest and the oldest town on the island, there are also three other towns you should consider visiting during your sailing holidays.

Betina – this beautiful town is and Adriatic wooden shipbuilding town and it is one of the most beautiful towns in the Adriatic

Things to do on the Murter island

There are many things you can do on the island because it is a vast area with a lot of beaches and water sport activities. Beaches on the Murter island are one of the most attractive beaches on the Adriatic coast. Apart from exceptional nature the island and its beaches are known for its cleanliness of the sea.

Beach Slanica

Plaža Slanica is one of the most popular beach on the Murter island. This sandy beach is full even when the peak season is off. The sea is shallow for some 30 m from the coast which makes it popular between “picigin” lovers.

During the peak season the beach is full, but you can find shelter on the rocks around the beach itself.

Podvrške Beach

This beach used to be a beach for locals that only had but a few visitors even during the peak season but after it was proclaimed as a hidden beauty just a few kilometers from beach Slanica, the visitors started coming.

This beautiful beach is located on the eastern side on the island overlooking the open sea. The combination of the sandy and pebbly beach one one part and other part is rocky with a separate beach for dogs.

All the above plus crystalline clear sea and pine forest makes it a winning combination for careless sailing vacation.

Archeological beach Colentum

Just when you thought there is nothing you can be surprised with, Adriatic sea throws a unique kind of beach for you. This is a place where all history lovers can enjoy a swimming and can experience blast to the Croatian past.

This beach is located on the tip of Cape Gradina with an excellent view over the bay of Hramina. This is the only beach in Croatia that combines history, archaeology, oceanography, cultural and recreational tourism.

Betina Shipbuilding Museum

The museum is located on the protected cultural and historical ensemble of Betina in the centre of the village. If you are interested in exploring the cultures of different regions you should give this place a proper tour. Even though the village is small, with only 800 residents, it is a typical Dalmatian locality that is mainly focused on tourism, agriculture, fishing, crafts and trades.

The knowledge of shipbuilding was kept in the shipbuilding families through generations and it was transferred from the chief master ("prot") to its most able apprentice. Only proto knew how to design a ship and he was the one who decided to whom he will transfer that knowledge.

Murter

Yacht Charter Murter

Murter Island is the largest island in the Sibenik Archipelago and a great starting point for a yacht charter in Croatia. Connected to the mainland by a bridge at Tisno, it has good tourist infrastructure.

If you would like to rent a boat on Murter Island, there are three marinas, Betina Marina, Hramina Marina and Jezera Marina. On a bareboat charter or a crewed charter there is much to be enjoyed in this region. Incredible islands, medieval towns and easy sailing.

From Murter both the Sibenik Archipelago and the Kornati islands await the enthusiastic sailor. The Sibenik archipelago, with some 249 islands of which only six have permanent residents is perfect for that rustic getaway. Kaprije island, tranquil with a well-sheltered cove, Krapanj island famous for its sponge industry, tiny Prvc island covered in vineyards, rocky Zirje and Zlarin, famous for its coral jewelry.

The Kornati islands which are some 140 islands, islets and reefs form the densest archipelago in the Adriatic. Stark and uninhabited with a rugged coastline and seemingly endless sunshine, it’s simply great sailing.

Murter island is connected to the mainland at Tisno. The nearest cities are Sibenik, 30 km away, Zadar 70 km away and Split , 100km away. You can reach Murter by car, using the Adriatic coastal road or highway. The nearest bus and rail stations are in Sibenik, Zadar and Split.

There are international ferry lines from Ancona to Zadar and Ancona, Pescara to Split. The nearest international airports are Zadar Airport, 60 km away and Split Airport, 80km away.

Sailing Conditions

Sailing conditions are generally excellent; the tides have little effect and the currents are weak. While sailing around the Kornati islands, a gusty wind called Bora can blow up quickly and can be dangerous. Other than that the prevailing winds are favourable which is what makes sailing from Murter so popular. This beautiful and diverse region is well worth a sailing week or two.

Only 5,100 people live on the island throughout the year though these numbers swell considerably in summer thanks to the island's tourism economy. Murter has four main villages - Jezno, Betina, Tisno and the 'capital', Murter.

There are dozens of beautiful beaches to be found with shallow sandy bottoms where everyone can relax and have fun in some safety. On the west coast is Podvrske Beach that has the best views of the nearby Kornati Islands, and its white sand gives the sea a shade of blue that you will never forget.

Nightlife? The main 'night-spot' is Slanica Bay on the sandy beach where people dance all night under the stars, though there is a nightclub - Barbarella's in Tisno.

Murter is an island but is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge at Tisno, so you can catch a bus from nearby townof Sibenik onto the island.

Explore Murter By Renting A Yacht

A Murter yacht charter is easy to organise. All you need is your sailing qualifications (if on a bareboat charter) and final payment. Inspect your boat rental and off you go!

With its central location on the Croatian coast, the Dalmatian island of Murter is a great jumping off point for a perfect sailing holiday. What's the wind doing this week? If predominantly from the north (the Bura) then you can head north for the first few days or week and if blowing from the south, head south for the first half. Read on for some suggestions!

A short hop by sea will take you to the nearby island of Vrgada, the most colourful island on the Murter chain of islands.

There are two great national parks to visit by sea from Murter. The Kornati National Park is one of the most beautiful spots in the whole of Croatia, and is just an hour's sailing away on a monohull sailboat or catamaran. On the mainland, to the east of Sibenik and up the Krka River is the Krka National Park with its beautiful waterfalls.

For those seeking a 'pulse' then you can head north to the beach resort of Biograd or south to Split and even Hvar as part of your trip. By far the bulk of those on a Murter yacht charter seek an opportunity to slow their pulse down however!

How To Get To Murter

Thanks to its central location, there are two airports that serve Murter. From both you will need to take a couple of buses to get to Sibenik and then a connecting bus to Murter itself or you can take a taxi.

Split Airport

Open to international flights throughout the year, Split Airport has flights from much of Europe and many other regions of the world.

From Split Airport you will need to take a bus to the city's main bus station or to Trogir and then onward to Sibenik where you will take another bus to the island or you can take a taxi.

Zadar Airport

This is a seasonal airport but has several airlines flying in from around Europe during the summer months. From Zadar Airport you will need to take a bus to either Zadar or Biograd, and then a direct bus to Sibenik from there, and a third on to the island or you can take a taxi.

Suggested Sailing Routes From Murter

With its central location on the Adriatic, a Murter yacht charter offers a lot of possibilities.

7 Days Murter - Hvar - return: Taking in the best of the Dalmatian coast and islands, you can head south to the holiday resort of Hvar as a southerly point, perhaps stopping by the inland marina of Skradin and the Krka National Park on your downwind leg. Coming back north you can sail through the Sibenik archipelago and before returning to port, drop by the Kornati islands.

7 Days Murter - Zadar - return: Perhaps a better route out of Marina Betina or Marina Hramina, you can head upwind towards the historic port of Zadar, perhaps pausing at the holiday resort of Biograd on your northerly leg. On your downwind leg, consider the Zadar archipelago and the Kornati islands.

14 days Cres and Pula: Particularly on a faster boat like a motor yacht or catamaran you could reach the sailing hotspot of Pula on the Istrian Peninsula. Don't forget to pause a while on the twin islands of Cres and Losinj, believed to be separated with an 11 metre wide channel by the Roman Empire. Outward or back you can take in the towns of Zadar and Biograd.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Murter

The sailing season runs from late April to October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter. The ACI Marina chain also adds 20% to their berthing fees at this time of year. If you can charter outside of the peak period you will find it far quieter and less expensive. The climate is mild most of the sailing season with occasional rain showers.

Sailing Weather In Murter

April and May: There will be occasional rainy days but temperatures sit between 22-28C or higher. Winds are generally NW, 10-20 knots

June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat! Temperatures are from 26C and up to the mid 30s. Wind is generally NW 5-10 knots

September-October: In this part of the world it rains more in October and the temperature falls away to 10 degrees C in the evenings, though it can get up to a comfortable 20C on an autumn day. Winds can get up to 20 knots.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

There are three main marinas on the island - Marina Hramina and Marina on the northern coast and ACI Marina Jezera on the SE coast.

The ACI Marina chain boosts its prices by 20% in the high summer months of July and August. Other marinas do the same. It can be better to go on a sailing vacation in early or late summer as a result - it is quieter yet the weather often far better than in Northern Europe.

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

We are confident that our prices are the most competitive and transparent in the market.

We won't charge any booking fees when you make a booking with us.

We have the highest number of verified and vetted boats available on the market.

Renting a Boat in Murter

Murter is a Croatian island located in North Dalmatia along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It is situated in the northwestern part of the Sibenik archipelago, the island has a lot to offer. Murter is one best known for its crystal clear waters and world class beaches. One of the hardest choices when boating in Croatia is how to plan your itinerary and Murter should be an essential stop. There are three main stops you'll need to see while planning your vacation.

If you plan a yacht charter in Murter, there will be three primary areas to go to. At the northern point on the Murter Channel, you'll first encounter a fishing village, Betina. The town has history dating back to the 1st century, but be cautious as sailboats are not encouraged to berth here due to the strong tide. The next stop should be Jezera. It is also on the northern side and it is one of the smallest towns in Murter. The town was named after the numerous lakes that arise after heavy rains and is now known for its historical landmarks.

The last stop will be the town of Murter. The blend of cultural traditions with a beautiful landscape make the town incredibly unique. As much of the island, historical landmarks along with unique cultural events and festivals make this island a top destination. The region is notably known for crystal clear waters and a special climate that will make your vacation enjoyable. Hire a boat and make sure to enjoy all of the beautiful landscapes that Murter has to offer. If you want to sail outside, you'll have several options nearby. From Murter, you can sail directly to Vodice and see the coast there. Another popular option for sailors is Sibenik . If you're looking for a different destination with a little less tourists, take your boat to Pirovac .

How much does it cost to rent a boat in Murter?

The cost of renting a boat in Murter fluctuates according to the season. Usually, in that region the high season falls between June and August with the highest number of tourists and the highest prices. However, thanks to the amazing weather the sailing season lasts from April to October. If you are planning to rent a boat in Murter, expect to pay from around 100€/day for a sailboat and 200€/day for a catamaran.

If you’d like to rent a motor boat, there is a huge selection of boats available in a wider price range. Depending on the activities you wish to do, you can choose a perfect boat accordingly.

Do I need a license to charter a yacht in Murter?

When you rent a boat in Murter, you have to follow the Croatian regulations regarding the need of a boating license. It is obligatory to have a boating license and also a VHF radio license as an addition. However, don’t stress if you don’t have the necessary documentation as there is an option to rent a boat with a skipper. In that case, they will deal with the navigation of the boat and show you around the hidden spots of the island.

Why were so many metro stations in Moscow renamed?

Okhotny Ryad station in Soviet times and today.

Okhotny Ryad station in Soviet times and today.

The Moscow metro system has 275 stations, and 28 of them have been renamed at some point or other—and several times in some cases. Most of these are the oldest stations, which opened in 1935.

The politics of place names

The first station to change its name was Ulitsa Kominterna (Comintern Street). The Comintern was an international communist organization that ceased to exist in 1943, and after the war Moscow authorities decided to call the street named after it something else. In 1946, the station was renamed Kalininskaya. Then for several days in 1990, the station was called Vozdvizhenka, before eventually settling on Aleksandrovsky Sad, which is what it is called today.

The banner on the entraince reads:

The banner on the entraince reads: "Kalininskaya station." Now it's Alexandrovsky Sad.

Until 1957, Kropotkinskaya station was called Dvorets Sovetov ( Palace of Soviets ). There were plans to build a monumental Stalinist high-rise on the site of the nearby Cathedral of Christ the Saviour , which had been demolished. However, the project never got off the ground, and after Stalin's death the station was named after Kropotkinskaya Street, which passes above it.

Of course, politics was the main reason for changing station names. Initially, the Moscow Metro itself was named after Lazar Kaganovich, Joseph Stalin’s right-hand man. Kaganovich supervised the construction of the first metro line and was in charge of drawing up a master plan for reconstructing Moscow as the "capital of the proletariat."

In 1955, under Nikita Khrushchev's rule and during the denunciation of Stalin's personality cult, the Moscow Metro was named in honor of Vladimir Lenin.

New Metro stations that have been opened since the collapse of the Soviet Union simply say "Moscow Metro," although the metro's affiliation with Vladimir Lenin has never officially been dropped.

Zyablikovo station. On the entrance, there are no more signs that the metro is named after Lenin.

Stations that bore the names of Stalin's associates were also renamed under Khrushchev. Additionally, some stations were named after a neighborhood or street and if these underwent name changes, the stations themselves had to be renamed as well.

Until 1961 the Moscow Metro had a Stalinskaya station that was adorned by a five-meter statue of the supreme leader. It is now called Semyonovskaya station.

Left: Stalinskaya station. Right: Now it's Semyonovskaya.

Left: Stalinskaya station. Right: Now it's Semyonovskaya.

The biggest wholesale renaming of stations took place in 1990, when Moscow’s government decided to get rid of Soviet names. Overnight, 11 metro stations named after revolutionaries were given new names. Shcherbakovskaya became Alekseyevskaya, Gorkovskaya became Tverskaya, Ploshchad Nogina became Kitay-Gorod and Kirovskaya turned into Chistye Prudy. This seriously confused passengers, to put it mildly, and some older Muscovites still call Lubyanka station Dzerzhinskaya for old times' sake.

At the same time, certain stations have held onto their Soviet names. Marksistskaya and Kropotkinskaya, for instance, although there were plans to rename them too at one point.

"I still sometimes mix up Teatralnaya and Tverskaya stations,” one Moscow resident recalls .

“Both have been renamed and both start with a ‘T.’ Vykhino still grates on the ear and, when in 1991 on the last day of my final year at school, we went to Kitay-Gorod to go on the river cruise boats, my classmates couldn’t believe that a station with that name existed."

The city government submitted a station name change for public discussion for the first time in 2015. The station in question was Voykovskaya, whose name derives from the revolutionary figure Pyotr Voykov. In the end, city residents voted against the name change, evidently not out of any affection for Voykov personally, but mainly because that was the name they were used to.

What stations changed their name most frequently?

Some stations have changed names three times. Apart from the above-mentioned Aleksandrovsky Sad (Ulitsa Kominterna->Kalininskaya->Vozdvizhenka->Aleksandrovsky Sad), a similar fate befell Partizanskaya station in the east of Moscow. Opened in 1944, it initially bore the ridiculously long name Izmaylovsky PKiO im. Stalina (Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest Named After Stalin). In 1947, the station was renamed and simplified for convenience to Izmaylovskaya. Then in 1963 it was renamed yet again—this time to Izmaylovsky Park, having "donated" its previous name to the next station on the line. And in 2005 it was rechristened Partizanskaya to mark the 60th anniversary of victory in World War II.

Partizanskaya metro station, nowadays.

Another interesting story involves Alekseyevskaya metro station. This name was originally proposed for the station, which opened in 1958, since a village with this name had been located here. It was then decided to call the station Shcherbakovskaya in honor of Aleksandr Shcherbakov, a politician who had been an associate of Stalin. Nikita Khrushchev had strained relations with Shcherbakov, however, and when he got word of it literally a few days before the station opening the builders had to hastily change all the signs. It ended up with the concise and politically correct name of Mir (Peace).

The name Shcherbakovskaya was restored in 1966 after Khrushchev's fall from power. It then became Alekseyevskaya in 1990.

But the station that holds the record for the most name changes is Okhotny Ryad, which opened in 1935 on the site of a cluster of market shops. When the metro system was renamed in honor of Lenin in 1955, this station was renamed after Kaganovich by way of compensation. The name lasted just two years though because in 1957 Kaganovich fell out of favor with Khrushchev, and the previous name was returned. But in 1961 it was rechristened yet again, this time in honor of Prospekt Marksa, which had just been built nearby.

In 1990, two historical street names—Teatralny Proyezd and Mokhovaya Street—were revived to replace Prospekt Marksa, and the station once again became Okhotny Ryad.

Murter Yacht Charter

Murter, nestled in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea along Croatia's coastline, serves as a gateway to the stunning Kornati National Park. With a population of just over 5,000 residents, it boasts a lively island community. Despite its modest size, Murter features captivating bays, enticing visitors to explore its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, accessibility is convenient for tourists. Murter's highest peak barely reaches 125 meters, offering panoramic views of the surrounding archipelago. For sailors, Murter serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the numerous islands of the region. Moreover, the island hosts several marinas and ports, ensuring safe harbor and essential amenities for seafarers.

Discovering Murter's iconic sights

Murter, an island nestled in the Adriatic Sea, boasts a tapestry of landmarks that tell the story of its past and present.

Murter-Croatia.png

Among these is the Tureta Fortress , a relic from the Byzantine era, built under the reign of Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. Originally erected as a strategic outpost to oversee maritime activities in the region, the fortress now stands as a stoic reminder of Murter's historical significance.

For those eager to soak in the island's breathtaking scenery, the Raduč viewpoint offers an unrivaled perspective. Perched atop one of Murter's rolling hills, this vantage point affords panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, with azure waters stretching out to the horizon and verdant greenery blanketing the terrain. While the paths leading to these viewpoints may be rugged and unmarked, seeking guidance from locals adds to the adventure, ensuring an enriching journey to these picturesque vistas.

No visit to Murter would be complete without a day spent at Slanica Beach , the crown jewel of the island's coastline. Here, powdery sands meet the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic, inviting visitors to bask in the sun's warm embrace and take a refreshing dip in the sea. Despite its popularity, Slanica Beach retains an air of tranquility, with secluded coves nestled amidst rocky outcrops offering respite from the crowds. Shaded by towering pine trees, these hidden alcoves provide a cool retreat from the summer heat, ideal for lounging and unwinding. Along the shore, beachside eateries serve up fresh seafood delicacies, while water slides and play areas offer entertainment for the whole family, ensuring a memorable day of leisure and relaxation in this coastal paradise.

Murter's maritime heritage: The timeless tradition of gajetas

While Venice is famous for its gondolas, Murter is renowned for its gajetas. These traditional boats once enabled local residents to travel to the Kornati Islands, primarily serving for fishing and transporting goods. They are often highlighted as rare examples of boats that have retained their original shape and are crafted solely from wood. Gajetas are equipped with sails, but navigation often required manual rowing, underscoring their significance in the past. To truly understand the importance of these boats to the local community, visit Betina. This picturesque town is home to a protected cultural-historical museum that will unveil many secrets of traditional boatbuilding. Additionally, it will acquaint you with modern trends and technologies shaping this tradition today.

Additionally, catamarans typically have shallower drafts, allowing access to shallow bays and hidden coves that might be off-limits to deeper keeled boats.

When choosing between a sailboat and a catamaran in Murter, consider your preferences for sailing style, comfort, and the ability to explore the stunning coastline of the Adriatic Sea.
