These stunning luxury Yachts/Boats have space, freedom to move around,. What better place to host your function with your friends or colleagues than along Durban’s beautiful coastline.

No matter what the age, we guarantee a great time. From a 16th to a 60th every occasion is a memorable one. Boathirebythesea knows how to make a party happen. Our up market Catamarans are spacious with freedom to move about. Both boats also have toilet facilities, a great sound system with speakers throughout and offer great viewing all around the boat. What better place to celebrate your  birthday / an  anniversary  or  engagement  to name a few.. with your friends, than along Durban’s beautiful beach front on boats specifically designed to host any function .

Madevu SA offers a full complement licenced bar.

Madevu Royale is a fully self-catering option.

Catering is available directly from one of our recommended caterers, or feel free to arrange your own.

Looking to do a tour of the  Port/harbour , we offer up close and personal viewing. With our in-house knowledge of shipping and the history of the port we can certainly add value to your tour. We highly recommend using  Madevu Royale   which carries up to 37 passengers for this as this vessel is great for  smaller groups , the top deck has a full 360 degree un-interrupted viewing option to see the cranes and movement of the shipping up close as we pass. Madevu SA  which carries 45 passengers is a welcome option if you looking for a luxury boat with all the bells and whistles.

Recommended minimum time for a full port tour is 2 hours which will cover the dry dock, Mayden Wharf area, then we will double back up esplanade Channel and head to the Container terminal. Depending on the time spent there, we can also include passing closer to the port entrance. We can offer a 90 minute option if on request, this option may limit some areas of the port . Catering can also be arranged directly through one of our recommended caterers.

• Madevu SA licensed to carry 45 passengers is our flagship vessel.
• Madevu Royale licensed to carry 37 passengers is our new upmarket vessel

Any Corporate event is a speciality of ours. With 2 boats to choose from we offer Madevu SA as our flagship option. With TV technology for boardroom presentations, a lounge setting which can seat up 35 guests upstairs in the main saloon and another 10 guests downstairs in the bar area. Move outside to one of 2 deck areas to get some fresh air.

This option will suit a more discerning client. Catering is available from our recommended supplier, however you may arrange your own catering. This boat has a fully functional bar facility on-board, which offers great social interaction. With a large shaded back deck area with seating, and front open deck, there is plenty space to move about.

This boat cruise option will take you throughout the harbour, and out to sea along Durban’s beach front, based on sea conditions, sit back, relax and enjoy the views.

Madevu Royale is a more relaxed option with a great indoor seating area of up to 26 guests with an excellent social space. Move outside to or to an upstairs viewing deck with more seating area to take in the sights and sounds and sounds, this boat will certainly be great for those smaller groups. You will get to see the ships up close, and really get the Durban harbour boat cruise experience all in a days tour.

Most companies choose to use our boats as we offer that “one stop shop’  facility as catering can be arranged by one of recommended caters which will be delivered to the boat and ready when you board. If you have any personalised requests we will try our utmost to make it happen. We are limited and certain ideas, but send a request anyway.. you never know.

We offer 3 boat options to either suit the need, the amount of guests or simply the budget. This is a very difficult time for some so we try make the occasion as comfortable as we can.

Madevu SA  is ideal for larger families looking for a comfortable boat cruise, and can take up to 45 guests , we don’t recommend such a big group however.  Please note this option may be limited to certain times due to the tides and also the days, and the sea conditions.

Madevu Royale  which is also a great option for the medium size groups can take up to 35 Guests . This option is not limited to any tidal conditions and offers a great comfortable seating on the inside saloon area. If you worried for the elderly guests this boat will be just the option for you.

JamJar is the smaller boat option that can carry up to 11 guests . It’s very versatile and can assist at any time. This is a popular option for a small group, ideal for such occasions.

The minimum time we hire these boats out for an ashes scattering is 90 minutes. Based on years of experience we will assist the client to get out to the right area and leave enough time to have a moment whilst out at sea during this difficult time. These trips are based on the sea conditions on the day as these trips head out to sea. We do recommend having a backup day reserved should the weather not turn out good.

We will also ensure that you spend an informative hour or 30 minutes on the boats. Durban boasts the biggest harbor as it is capable to accommodate 58 ships at any given time and one in the Dry Dock. Join us on a lovely smooth soothing harbour cruise and de-stress as we take you on a 30 minute cruise on a very comfortable boat. Daily from 10am to 4pm. Nip away to a rustic harbour marina amongst working slipways and see ships manoeuvring. Wilson’s Wharf offers a yacht’s spectacular view of the working Durban Harbour. Tamed Marina water ripples below the drinking decks of outdoor pubs where festivity is served warm and seafood is served fresh from the fishing vessels. See the fourth largest container port in the Southern hemisphere in action. There are twenty terminal operators. Over 4500 commercial vessels call at the port every year for loading or discharging of a variety of cargo. These ships don’t only enter for loading but also for repairs, re-fueling and surveying. The port has a circumference of 21 km. The different docks do different jobs: City Pier stretches from The Point to Bat Center and is numbered from “A” shed to “R” shed. Here they do steel, containers, plants and fresh fruit. Island View does all kinds of liquids and Bluff does coal. Then there is the Maydon Wharf that does everything from Sugar, Grain, Steel, Scrap metal, Wood, Paper, Fertilizer and Granite.

We offer a scenic cruise through the Durban Harbour leaving from Wilson’s Wharf, travelling past the Car terminal, South African Naval Base, MSC passenger Terminal, Sea Rescue and Promenade. We will cruise outside the Ushaka Marine world and the Addington beach area, you will get to see Moses Mabhida Stadium from a sea point of view. Experience Durban’s coastline as it’s supposed to be seen: while you’re on the water. We aim to offer everyone the opportunity to experience the beauty that the ocean has to offer.

WHALE WATCHING

Seasonal whale watching and sea safari.

No doubt, the best way to view whales and dolphins up close is from a boat. However, by law, you are not allowed to approach 300m from a whale, unless you are aboard a boat permitted by the Department of Marine and Coastal Management. Permit holders are all members of the South African Boat- Based Whale Watching Association (SABBWWA) and as such are required to adhere to a strict code of conduct and have undergone training. Isle of Capri Cruises are doing boat- based whale watching with a permit in Durban. Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica between May and November, traveling up to 5,000 km along the east coast of South Africa to breed and give birth in the warmer waters of Mozambique and Madagascar. Their migration is one of the longest of any mammal on earth.

Rrivate boat from Sorrento to Capri

Anyone rented a private boat from Sorrento to Capri's Blue Gratto? I understand they are easy to get. What is the cost?

We didn't but on Capri we went to the harbor and were approached by a nice older Caprese man to circle around the island. We negotiated a smaller boat driven by his 17 year old who was sweetly bashful with our two teenage daughters. For four hours we stopped in smaller grottoes, jumped overboard to swim, enjoyed the views and had one of the best days of our vacation.

Love the idea! Were you staying in Sorrento? What island did you go around? Do you remember the Cost? Surprise things like that make wonderful memories!

About 10 years ago, we took the hydrofoil from Sorrento to Capri. While in a sandwich shop, the kid behind the counter asked if we would be interested in a boat ride around the Isle of Capri. His father had a boat and his brother took us. Went to the Blue Grotto and then went completely around the island for not much more than groups in the harbor were charging for just the Blue Grotto. One of the best 4 hours of the trip!

Hope to find just that boat! Wish me luck....

Yes stayed in Sorrento three nights and then over to Capri which we weren't that wowed with and stayed in a horrid hotel for two nights. At a more expensive hotel they had flyers for private boats but they were very expensive but when we went to the harbor we were approached and bargained. We originally booked three hours but we were having so much fun that we added another hour. I would guess it was around $150 but we gave the boy a $20 dollar tip and he was so pleased. The boat was about 22 feet long. We then spent two nights in Positano which was pretty but the water by the beach where we rented chairs had an oil slick. Great hotel Tartana I think. Followed some excited Italian children to the best lemon granita stand ever. Our favorite is Sorrento though staying at hotels with balconies and amazing views across the water. Lucky you
