YOUR SPECIAL PLAYGROUND FOR YACHT BUILDS FROM 35 to 65 METERS

The shipyard.

The construction of Dynamiq yachts is carried out in the Antalya Free Zone, Turkey, which is a government-protected area that benefits from a special tax regime lowering costs and hosts a cluster of high profile shipyards from both Turkey and the Netherlands. Dynamiq occupies the most modern and newest facility in the Free Zone, with 10,000 m 2 covered space and access to a 2,000 ton syncrolift for safe and easy launching. The sheds are well fitted out for building the full range of Dynamiq superyachts up to 65 meters in length. Various powertrain options are available including hybrid or diesel-electric technology.

The works are organized with international subcontractors from Germany, Austria and Italy, who team up with the best local craftsmen to achieve a level of quality in line with North European standards. Dynamiq has in-house interior, teak and stainless steel production to ensure that the end product finish is absolutely perfect and minimize the risks of delays. The shipyard working environment is carefully managed and strict quality control standards are maintained by both the Dynamiq team and external surveyors from Europe. Dynamiq organized dedicated modern office spaces to welcome owner's representatives and crew members.

Designed in MONACO. ENGINEERED IN THE NETHERLANDS. CRAFTED IN TURKEY.

The Dynamiq range is a product of leading European technology and craftsmanship. This unique international approach has created an innovative superyacht of the highest quality born from a collaboration of the world’s top superyacht design and construction experts.

WHY DYNAMIQ?

Forward thinking design, innovative naval architecture, highest engineering standards, top-quality steel & aluminium construction, ocean-going range, smart pricing.

Forward thinking design

Dynamiq's unique exteriors look impressive and fresh and express the sporty, chic soul of our yachts. They not only look great, but also perform at the top of their class and lend owners a sense of exclusivity and pride.

Innovative naval architecture

Dynamiq’s high efficiency is based on innovative technologies in modern naval architecture: fast displacement hull lines, the Hull Vane under the stern, and Sleipner curved fin stabilizers. Completely drawn by leading naval architects in the Netherlands, all Dynamiq yachts feature a round-bilge shape for remarkably low resistance and low fuel consumption, while providing seaworthiness and comfort with long waterline length and low centre of gravity.

Highest engineering standards

Each Dynamiq yacht is by definition safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly in accordance with the strictest RINA and BV Commercial Class standards, prestigious Comfort and Green Star Plus notations, Large Yacht Code 4 (LY4) compliancy and manning standards. This not only makes our vessels ultra-safe and almost silent, but also means they can be chartered to offset the cost of ownership.

Top-quality steel & aluminium construction

Only certified marine-grade steel, aluminium and Sealium are used for Dynamiq hulls and superstructures. In comparison with composite hulls, they are much quieter, easier to repair and have higher trade-in value due to the fact that they have a very long service life.

Ocean-going range

Dynamiq yachts are designed with an ocean-going capability in mind, which means owners have the opportunity to enjoy multiple seasons during the year (say Mediterranean and Caribbean) and visit remote locations with no re-fueling infrastructure. Equipped with high-capacity marine fridges and freezers, cold garbage stores, separate laundry facilities, plenty of storage space, generous fresh water tanks and powerful water-makers, Dynamiq yachts provide autonomy at sea in complete comfort.

Smart pricing

Combining Dutch engineering with production facilities in the one of the biggest Turkish shipbuilding hubs of Antalya Free Zone means Dynamiq can offer North European standards and quality craftsmanship at significantly reduced prices. Being pioneers in the superyacht industry, Dynamiq also has an Online Configurator where clients can customize their yachts in a few clicks and see in real time how the price and delivery times vary.

Yacht Construction FAQs

What support will moran yacht & ship offer me during my yacht construction.

The experts and brokers at Moran Yacht & Ship have been in the industry for a long time and oversee many superyacht construction projects. Their expertise will support you at every stage of the new build process, ensuring your exact requirements are met. This includes:

  • Informed selection of builder and shipyard
  • Choice of interior and exterior designer
  • Development and negotiation of the technical specification
  • Negotiation of the build contract and price
  • Project management throughout the build process

What does it cost to build a yacht?

The cost of building a yacht from scratch is based on multiple factors, including the size of the vessel, materials used, the complexity of the design, technology, propulsion systems, interior design features, onboard amenities, and the shipyard and designers used. Expect building a luxury boat to cost anywhere from $2 million to more than $300 million. Working with an experienced new build project management team, such as the experts at Moran Yacht & Ship, offers a cost-effective solution by ensuring builds remain within budget.

What are the benefits of building a yacht as opposed to buying a used yacht?

There are multiple benefits to building a yacht as opposed to buying a pre-owned yacht. When you build your own yacht, you enjoy the benefits of a fully customized vessel to meet your precise requirements, from its naval architecture and size to its cruising capabilities, layout, onboard technology, amenities, and interior design. A custom yacht will be tailored to suit your lifestyle and desired experiences.

Also, when you build your yacht, you won’t have to worry about pre-existing conditions. A new build yacht will come fully warranted, providing protection from future mechanical repairs and providing complete peace of mind.

Finally, Moran Yacht & Ship ensures that building a yacht is indulgently fun. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of highly experienced boat-building professionals to create something truly extraordinary, from sketch board to on the water. Nothing matches the thrill of building your own yacht with even the smallest details tailored to your precise requirements. Indeed, a custom yacht offers the ultimate lifestyle purchase.

  • Amels This Dutch shipyard officially entered the yachting sphere with the superyacht KATALINA, now named LADY GEORGINA, in 1982. The luxury boat builder specializes in motor boats, constructing both full custom as well as their highly sought-after semi-custom Limited Editions yacht series.
  • Oceanco Oceanco is a pedigree boat builder and industry pioneer based in the Netherlands. The shipbuilder is renowned for building award-winning custom vessels up to 200 meters, both motor yachts and sailing vessels. • Feadship Also among the world’s most notable superyacht manufacturers is Feadship, a full custom motor yacht builder known for its uncompromising pursuit of perfection. The pedigree shipbuilder is located in Holland and boasts a long history stretching back to 1949.

Moran Yacht & Ship boasts strong relationships with the world’s leading shipyards and has project managed some of the world’s most luxurious custom superyachts. Contact us today if you want to build a luxury boat.

What countries are known to have the best shipyards?

European countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, France, and Germany, dominate when it comes to the best shipyards, thanks to their rich maritime heritage, skilled craftsmanship, and use of exceptionally high-quality materials.

What are the current waiting times to build a yacht with the best shipyards?

Overall, the more prestigious the shipyard, the longer the waiting time will be. Current waiting times for some of the most prestigious builders are around 4 to 5 years.

How long does it take to build a yacht?

The build time for a yacht can vary significantly depending on the project’s size, specifications, and complexity. Generally, superyacht construction times at pedigree shipyards range from 36 to 39 months.

Our new construction team is known for delivering our client’s projects on time and within budget.

What are mega yacht hulls made from?

Megayacht hulls are typically made from fiberglass, aluminum, or steel, and the choice of material will depend on the budget, yacht design, and how the owner wishes the vessel to perform.

A fiberglass hull is known for its excellent sea-keeping capabilities and ease of maintenance.

Aluminum offers excellent strength and durability. As a relatively lightweight material, it also provides better fuel economy and enables a yacht to reach higher speeds.

Steel is an exceptionally strong and durable material with high resistance to abrasion, making it popular with ocean-cruising yachts, especially expedition vessels. However, it is heavier than fiberglass or aluminum, making it less popular with owners wishing to build a yacht where speed is a priority.

What makes a boat considered a yacht?

Overall, there is no standardized definition of what makes a yacht. Mostly, the term yacht applies to vessels over 24 meters, where regulations for ownership change as well. The term yacht can equally define a motor boat or sailing vessel. Additionally, terms like superyacht,  megayacht, or gigayacht are often used to describe the most luxurious and largest ocean-going vessels.

Do I have to pay VAT on a new yacht?

As a moveable asset, whether you have to pay VAT – Value Added Tax – can be complex. Generally speaking, whether you have to pay VAT will depend on the country the owner is acquiring the yacht from and their country of residence. The VAT may also depend on the intended use of the vessel. Every country has different VAT rules and regulations. It is always a good idea to consult with a local tax professional with expert knowledge of the yachting industry to mitigate any potential tax liabilities.

What are financing options for yacht construction?

Building a new luxury boat can be an expensive endeavor and is a significant investment. Various financing options are available to those interested in purchasing or building a yacht. Financing typically involves one of three different solutions:

  • Portfolio loans
  • Private lenders

Bank loans are a popular option for financing a yacht construction. Many banks offer boat loans, which are similar to auto loans in terms of loan structure and required collateral.

Portfolio loans have become more popular for financing new construction projects. A number of institutions offer these and often have very favorable rates.

Private lenders also offer funding for boat construction. These lenders typically offer more lenient terms compared to banks. However, interest rates can be higher, and a larger down payment is often required.

How much does it cost to run a yacht per year?

The cost of running a yacht depends on many factors, including:

  • Maintenance needs : they will also grow with the age of the yacht
  • Size : the larger the yacht, the more crew is required
  • Time spent cruising : fuel expenses increase with the cruising range
  • Insurance costs
  • Location : dockage and mooring fees will vary

Overall, a rule of thumb is that luxury yachts cost around 10% of their purchase price per year. This percentage is typically reduced slightly as the size of the boat increases.

New build yacht faq.

The yacht-building process is the ultimate journey for any prospective yacht Owner, allowing you to tailor every detail to your exacting requirements. New build yacht projects involve a considerable amount of creativity and freedom of expression, from pre-designed and semi-custom yachts to fully custom superyacht builds.

The yacht-building process requires a significant number of important decisions as an Owner, so having the support and expertise of an experienced yacht brokerage company is essential to ensure things run smoothly. At YACHTZOO, we coordinate your yacht build with key players across the industry to ensure we deliver the yacht of your dreams. Discover all you need to know about the yacht -building process to help you define your options.

What are the benefits of building your own yacht?

A custom yacht enables the Owner to build a vessel that precisely meets their needs. Whether you seek a cutting-edge sailing yacht designed for long-range cruising, an opulent superyacht designed for exploring luxury blue water havens or a state-of-the-art ocean explorer for navigating uncharted waters, a new build yacht can be made to match any lifestyle.

The main benefit of building your own yacht is the element of personalization it brings. When building a custom yacht, nothing is off-limits from the size, layout, amenities, interiors, and exterior design.

A custom yacht also allows for the option to choose a reduced carbon footprint by utilizing the latest eco-friendly technology, including state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion systems, wastewater recovery systems, and solar panels.

With the currently low inventory due to unprecedented yacht sales over the past two years, building your dream yacht may be the ideal option.

How long does it take to build a yacht?

The time of the yacht building process can vary considerably depending on the size, type, interiors, technical considerations, customization, and extra amenities you wish to have onboard, as well as the shipyard and their availability. On average, yacht construction can take anywhere from 18 months to 4 years. You can see below our estimations depending on the type of yacht you want to design.

What is a fully custom yacht?

A fully custom superyacht is the pinnacle of luxury yacht construction. Every aspect of aesthetic and technical design is bespoke and constructed to your specifications. A fully custom yacht build is an exciting yet complex undertaking, requiring 2.5 to 4 years to develop. The road from concept to the yacht-building process can be long and involves considerable research and planning.

Building a custom superyacht can be a superb experience when working alongside a reputable yacht brokerage like YACHTZOO. Our highly skilled agents can assist with all aspects of project management, from liaising with the shipyards, engineers, and interior designers, to the yacht’s classification and flag.

What is a semi-custom yacht?

A semi-custom yacht allows for the best of both worlds when it comes to the yacht-building process, offering faster lead times and reduced costs, as well as larger flexibility to personalize the vessel to your exact tastes and lifestyle.

Built on a proven platform – and sometimes on spec – this option reduces delivery time by around a third or more, taking 2 to 3 years to complete on average. While you may not have control over the pre-engineering and technical specifications, a varying degree of customization is still available throughout the interior design and options list of the semi-custom models to ensure the creation of a yacht bespoke to you.

What is a production yacht?

A production yacht is a tried and trusted way to keep costs and delivery time considerably lower than custom construction projects. While production yachts offer the least amount of creative freedom in terms of design, layout, and interior, many production yachts boast flexible layouts and interior design options, allowing for your own personal touch in a fraction of the usual yacht build time. The typical building process for a production yacht should take 1.5 to 2 years.

Whether you are looking to purchase a fully-custom, semi-custom, or production yacht, YACHTZOO’s experienced team takes the time to understand exactly your requirements, expectations, and parameters.

Why choose us?

In the realm of yacht construction, the use of advanced materials and the application of extensive knowledge have become paramount in crafting the largest yachts. America’s 10 Best Yacht Builders

Yacht At Last side view

In America, the yachting industry might not be as established. Yet, today, America’s best luxury yacht builders continue to put out award-winning and state-of-the-art designs. Who are America’s best yacht builders?

From Christensen to Trinity, we countdown the best yacht builders in America and highlight what makes each shipyard unique. Here are our favorites:

1. Christensen

Christensen is one of the most established yacht builders in the U.S., and the company is known for its completely custom yachts. Each yacht the company produces is designed according to owner specifications.

Known for its classic hull design, and upscale finishes, Christensen produces some of the most luxurious superyachts in the U.S. That’s thanks in part to the builder’s in-house design team. Many other builders outsource design. Plus, the builder is known for its exquisite interiors, featuring spacious layouts and the finest finishes. Christensen also regularly wins innovation awards for their efficient and powerful displacement systems and state-of-the-art stabilization.

2. Westport

Since 1964, Westport has been a leader in yacht design and manufacturing in the U.S. And its earned a reputation for developing sporty, classically-styled superyachts.

That wasn’t always the case. Originally, Westport designed and built commercial fishing vessels, but today, Westport focuses exclusively on luxury motor yachts, including 34-, 38-, 40- and 50-meter yachts. Westport’s raised pilothouse and tri-deck yachts feature classic nautical hulls with modern touches. The interiors are sleek and comfortable and known for their spacious outdoor deck areas.

3. Derecktor

Derecktor is one of the country’s oldest yacht builders. It was founded on Long Island, NY in 1947, and during its early years, the company produced commercial fishing and passenger vessels. (Even today, Derecktor manufacturers high-speed ferries for cities around the world.)

Derecktor’s output has changed quite a bit in its 70-year history. Today, the company continues to build commercial vessels, but it’s also a top builder of custom motor yachts. Derecktor produces both explorer yachts and motor yachts, and many of its luxury motor yachts feature explorer-inspired designs. Many Derecktor yachts, for example, feature towering superstructures positioned forward. This opens up an abundance of aft-deck space for outdoor dining areas, beach clubs, and even helipads.

In addition to style, Derecktor yachts are renowned for their performance. They might be sizable. But they’re fast, and the ride is stable.

4. Hatteras

Hatteras is a legendary name in American shipbuilding, known for its high-speed and beautiful motor yachts. Initially, the shipyard focused entirely on sportfish yachts – something they’re still known for today. Yet, the company’s line-up of motor yachts offers the best of the best in luxury yachting.

Hatteras offers a full range of superyachts, including the 100 RPH, a stunning 102-foot raised pilothouse motoryacht, and the M90. Hatteras certainly shows its sporty roots in all of its designs; Hatteras exteriors are sleek and streamlined, sharing design details with its sportfish line.

At Trinity , size is the name of the game. The Gulfport-based shipyard produces yachts up to 123 meters (400 feet), including some of the largest luxury yachts ever built in the U.S.

The yachtbuilder has many signatures. For example, classic nautical architecture is one. Trinity produces some of the most inspiring superstructure designs that feature sleek lines and an abundance of glass. When you charter a Trinity yacht, you’ll have plenty of places to relax, as most of their designs incorporate an abundance of deck space. In the past, that’s include beautiful sky lounges and sprawling aft-deck dining/bar areas.

Below deck, Trinity yachts delivers spacious layouts. The yachtbuilder is know for their opulent owner’s suites and staterooms, as well as stunning salons.

6. Broward Marine

Founded by legendary boatbuilder Frank Denison in the 1950s, Broward Marine has been a leader in superyacht design throughout its history. For example, in 1954, Broward launched its first luxury superyacht, ALISA V. At the time, the 96-footer was a behemoth – similar in grandness to today’s megayachts of 150+ feet.

The Alisa paved a path for the company, which shifted its focus exclusively to luxury motoryachts. In the 1980s, for example, Broward was quick to respond to the trend of the superyachts; Broward sold some 80 yachts in the 1980s, an impressive sales feat.

Under new management in the early 2000s, the company continued its focus on stunning megayachts in the 100- to 160-foot range. Broward yachts are grand in scale, with stunning tri-deck and raised pilothouse designs, and they’re also some of the first to feature farmhouse kitchens. Today, the company focuses primarily on refits, but many of their majestic yachts are still available for charter.

7. Hargrave

Hargrave has been producing yachts since the 1950s, and throughout its history, the shipyard has built a reputation for inspiring yacht designs. In fact, the company initially only focused on design. Founder Jack Hargrave, the famed nautical designer, worked closely with other top U.S. yacht builders including Burger and Hatteras, helping to launch numerous brands.

In 1997, the company transitioned from design to designing and building its own luxury yachts. The company quickly made a name for itself. Hargrave has won numerous awards for its sporty tri-decks and sportfish-inspired motoryachts. Hargrave yachts feature contemporary interiors, matched with sleek profiles.

A Horizon yacht has a distinctive look. The company’s yachts have stately exteriors with tons of classic nautical architectural details. Inside, too, Horizon yachts have a lot of character. Most Horizon yachts feature sprawling windows, creating light and airy interior spaces.

Today, the company produces yachts in the 56- to 150-foot range, and their offerings include power catamarans, tri-decks and raised pilothouse motor yachts.

If you’re looking for a power cat, that’s a Horizon specialty. The company’s PC Series features a range of mid-sized power cats up to about 80 feet, with numerous concept yachts in the works. Yet, Horizon does it all. You’ll find Horizon yachts in just about any style, from Fast Displacement yachts (FD Series), to customized tri-decks (CC Series).

The Burger Boat Company is one of the most historic shipbuilders in the U.S. Originally launched in 1863, the company has built more than 500 yachts in its history (more than 250 of which are still in operation). The company was a pioneer in steel yacht building, but today, Burger primary builds aluminum yachts.

Burger produces a range of custom tri-deck motor yachts, ranging from 112- to 214-foot motor yachts. Burger boats have a distinctive look and feel. They have spacious deck areas, like the wrap-around deck on its current 214-foot tri-deck concept, as well as innovative exterior lounge areas.

10. Delta Marine

For more than 50 years, Delta Marine has been producing world-class motor yachts from its headquarters in Seattle. The boatbuilder is known for its sleek exterior designs. Delta Marine yachts feature clean, flowing lines throughout, and the company produces a range of raised pilothouse and tri-deck motor yachts.

Plus, the interiors are completely custom. As such, no two Delta Marine yachts look the same, and the interiors are as unique as their owners. Delta yachts are also well-known for their performance. Many feature performance-minded hulls, and feature state-of-the-art displacement systems.

At 15,917 tons, the 156-meter superyacht features entertainment and recreation spaces never before seen on a yacht. These include a 25-meter swimming pool that holds an incredible 180 m³ of water, the largest pool ever to have been installed on a yacht. The exterior design, a classic profile with a light ivory hull and bronze accents, was developed by Espen Øino International. Her spectacular interior, created by the Winch Design team, uses rare and exclusive luxury materials.

A Luxurious Explorer: Riviera’s 78 Motor Yacht

  • By Tom Serio
  • August 25, 2023

Riviera 78

The Riviera Yachts 78 Motor Yacht’s sense of “wow” starts with a wave-battling, sharp bow with more than 6 feet of freeboard forward that also has a gentle flare. Then, there are the generously sized hull windows and gentle sheerline that splits to offer high deck railings. The sizable yacht’s main deck includes a fully covered after section, a salon that rivals fine apartments, and a bow lounge typically found on larger yachts. Topping it off is a flybridge deck with an extended aft terrace that offers great vistas or a private hideout.

In association with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona and the Riviera Design Group, the Australian builder set out to create more voluminous spaces, maximize stowage, maintain excellent lines of sight and wrap it all in a functional layout. Goals achieved.

Take the salon: A portside sofa complements the opposing side’s L-shaped sofa (with oh-so-soft pillows) and oversized ottoman while maintaining walking space. One way Riviera creates floor space is by tucking away items that are not always used. Riviera designed a table to hide within the portside sofa, so, after the cushions are moved, the table flips up and out from its base, becoming a dining table for six to eight guests. Additionally, the 55-inch flat-screen TV is not mounted in a credenza, but instead drops from overhead. When fully extended, it’s in line with the lower staircase’s railing, so it doesn’t impede the walking areas. The salon has 6-foot-7-inch headroom and side windows measuring more than 3 feet in height, enhancing the sense of space while offering ocean views and letting in natural light.

Riviera 78 stateroom

The galley is aft with an overhead cabinet along the starboard window, nestled next to the after corner fridge/freezer. There are clear sightlines from the aft deck through the salon, thanks to the absence of bulkheads. Rounding out the cooking amenities are an electric cooktop, options for hot or cold sparkling water at the sink, two ovens, a dishwasher, several fridges and a freezer compartment.

A drop-down electrical window aft, along with the sliding access door, seamlessly connects the salon, galley and aft deck.

The aft deck—16 by 13 by 7 feet—includes a transom sofa with an aft privacy screen, a perfect setup for cozying up with a good book. There is also a starboard-side, L-shaped settee with a walnut dining table. A portside credenza includes a wet bar, a grill, a lower fridge, an ice maker, Corian countertops and stowage.

Riviera 78 helm

Dual staircases lead down to the hydraulic swim platform, which not only lowers into the water for handling water toys and swimming, but also rises to clear the aft wash when running. It serves as an additional alfresco social space as well.

Up top, the enclosed flybridge is home to the yacht’s only helm station. This space is also a mini salon, another great social area. Guests can sink into the ultra-soft sofa across from the 44-inch TV. Add in the fresh breeze by opening the sunroof, aft door and side windows. Headroom here is an equally impressive 6 feet, 7 inches. An open-flybridge version is available.

The helm is laid out with four 24-inch Garmin multifunction displays, so the operator can keep eyes on all the vital data, navigation charts, radar, sonar, cameras and more at a glance. With so much glass around the flybridge, visibility is unobstructed in all directions.

Riviera 78 interior

Step through the aft door to the flybridge terrace for more alfresco relaxation space. Eat, drink and be merry at the portside corner wet bar, which has two stools (with latches underneath, preventing tipping when in transit). A U-shaped dining area here can be used as lounge seating as well. A half-awning shields some of the space from the elements. Aft space is sufficient for additional lounge chairs. An on-deck day head reduces the need to go below.

Belowdecks, the 78 Motor Yacht is geared for the cruising enthusiast’s family. There are four staterooms and three heads. Down the forward staircase from the salon, an atrium landing provides access to all the staterooms. The full-beam master is amidships with a lounge seat, as well as a head with a shower stall and a separate toilet space. There’s also a full-size office desk that brings new meaning to the phrase “remote working.” Two double-bunk staterooms are forward, with the VIP in the forepeak.

The 78 Motor Yacht is customizable, and Riviera is open to owner requests. Want to replace the pantry with another fridge? No problem. Change the layout of the salon? Sure.

Riviera 78

I found that responsive handling comes standard. The 78 Motor Yacht is a graceful craft that reacts well to the single-lever controls, as well as to wheel input. Going hard over on the wheel doesn’t mean it’s a white-knuckle ride. There’s a gentle lean into the turns and an easy rise when hitting the wakes. In other words, this is an easy yacht for an owner-operator or a light crew.

Speaking with Chris McCafferty, international sales director at Riviera Australia, I learned that this yacht was ideal for its owner’s needs—which mirror a lot of owners’ needs in the global cruising community. “For this owner, we were able to check off all the boxes they had,” he said. Room for a cruising family? Check. A bluewater hull form and robust build? Check. Luxurious and homelike amenities? Check. Long range for extended cruising itineraries? Check. Inside and outside living? Check.

It appears that the Riviera 78 Motor Yacht does indeed check a lot of boxes. It makes me wonder: What will they think of next?

The Riviera 78 Motor Yacht’s engine options include V-12 MAN diesels in 1,500, 1,800 or 2,000 hp. The yacht I got aboard had the 2000s, providing a 21.1-knot cruise while burning 126 gallons per hour at 1,800 rpm, equating to a 450-nautical-mile range. At wide-open throttle, the yacht hit 29 knots at 2,200 rpm at a cost of 203 gph, yielding a range of 385 nm. Pull back the throttles to 10 knots for a 43 gph burn and a 2,500 nm range.

Form and Function

Creating multifunction spaces is a focal point for Riviera. For example, the garage door opens to a large stowage room for water toys, rods and secured containers. A staircase (not a ladder) ensures safe footing into the well. When open, the garage door houses a rain-shower head and lighting to illuminate the platform and area aft.

Smart design allows for a foredeck oasis with a forward-facing, U-shaped settee, a wooden table, side lounge seats and access to the foredeck gear.

Sitting in the Stidd helm seat and taking in the dash feels like commanding a spaceship. There are touchscreens for most all functions, and buttons for on/off controls. On the right of the seat is an extended platform that houses the throttles, joystick, autopilot and chart-plotter controllers.

Timber titans: 7 of the best wooden superyachts

Fundamental.

Wooden construction is the most traditional of boatbuilding methods, dating back thousands of years, and there are still several notable examples of wooden superyachts cruising the world’s oceans today.

The 38.75 metre Fundamental  (ex- Alyssa ) is a cold-moulded wooden motor yacht which embraces minimalist beauty. Delivered in 2014 by Turkish builder Tansu , she can accommodate up to eights guests and five crew members.

At the request of the owner, she was intended to evoke a casual, beach club feel. The lifeguard huts and laid-back culture of South Beach in Miami inspired the finishing touches of her interior. Her wooden superstructure, reinforced with epoxy, harmoniously compliments her beach house style. Tansu aimed to focus on al fresco entertaining, devoting considerable space to her outside deck and lounging areas. This classic and comfortable design favours simplicity over ornamentation and her light weight means that she can reach a top speed of 21 knots.

The vast majority of new wooden superyachts are currently being built in Turkey and Mengi-Yay is one of the key players. The 2016 launch Aquarius sports a stylish modern exterior styling by Oğuzhan Güler with an almost vertical prow, which belies the fact that both the hull and superstructure were built from cold-molded, epoxy-laminated timber.

Bahadir Sen from Mengi-Yay told Boat International : “We don’t hestitate to use wood because it gives us the ability to make rapid changes in ongoing projects. Wood is more flexible than steel and laminated wood is more durable than GRP, but the final decision always belongs to the customer.”

More about this yacht

Yachts for charter.

Built by White HW and launched in 1920, the 46 metre gaff-rigged cutter Lulworth is one of the oldest sailing yachts still cruising today. Her mahogany hull is reinforced with steel frames, while both the decks and superstructure were crafted from teak. Lulworth’s has undergone several superyacht refits over the years, the most recent of which was in 2006, and her accommodation can sleep up to seven guests in four cabins.

The tri-masted Camper & Nicholsons sailing yacht Creole is widely regarded to be one of the most beautiful classic yachts in the world . This wooden schooner features an all-teak construction, including the hull, deck and superstructure.

Mikhail S. Vorontsov

Despite her classic styling, this 52.4 metre motorsailer was launched as recently as 2013 by Turkish yard Dream Ship Victory . A 2014 World Superyacht Award winner, Mikhail S. Vorontsov sports a laminated wooden hull and luxurious interiors created by Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands. Accommodation is for ten guests split between five cabins and she boasts a cruising range under power of 2,950 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Dream Ship Victory is currently working on an even larger wooden superyacht, the 141 metre Dream Symphony , which is due to launch before the end of this year.

Launched in 2004 by American yard Hodgdon Yachts measuring 47.12 metres LOA, Asolare (ex- Scheherazade ) was the largest cold-molded yacht in the world at the time.

Her 2014-15 refit at Front Street Shipyard in Maine saw her entire hull sanded back and repainted. This Bruce King -designed sailing yacht features interiors by British studio Winch Design with accommodation for up to six guests and five crewmembers.

Francesca Petrarca

These days Benetti is best known as the world’s largest motor yacht builder, but that wasn’t always the case. The 1941 launch Francesca Petrarca is proof of the Italian yard’s fine pedigree in building wooden sailing yachts.

Her oak and pine hull is reinforced with steel, while the teak superstructure matches her decks. This 49.41 metre triple-masted sailing yacht boasts accommodation for up to 11 guests, while twin General Motors diesel engines give her a top speed under power of 12 knots.
