Keppel Bay Sailing Club

Established in 1957, Keppel Bay Sailing Club began with a group of dedicated sailors and volunteers who had a passion for sailing and for the community in which they lived. In 1961, the members agreed it was time to establish a permanent clubhouse and were offered the old skate rink and dance hall, formally located on the existing Clubhouse site.

This is a full service marina within the harbor. I provides, fuel, laundry, a 40 ton boat lift and most repairs. Also on site are general store, chandlery, internet, restaurant and cafe. There was a courtesy car that could be borrowed for a shopping trip into Yeppoon, but it died and hasn't been replaced at the time of writing this (April 2014).

Capricornia Cruising Yacht Club

It is in temporary premises (a Caravan) at the moment (April 2014), but they are in the process of building new club rooms. It is very low key, but welcoming to visitors, and it is pleasant sitting on the deck over the water for sundowners.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club

Has a modern clubhouse restaurant. Located right on Yeppoon Main Beach.

Provisioning

• In Keppel Bay Marina
• Coles supermarket is located within Keppel Bay Plaza in Yeppoon (on bus route 20 from the marina).
• Woolworths is located within the Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre (on bus route 20 from the marina).
• There are 2 hardware stores in town, both in Tanby Road and in walking distance of Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre.
• Also on Tanby Road between Yeppon Central and the hardware stores is a pool and tank business which has a good range of hoses (including fuel hose), a Repco Store (automotive spares), Yeppon Industrial Supplies, an Electrical wholesaler that sells to the public, and a number of other useful businesses.
• The Waterline is situated within the marina complex, and is one of the better restaurants in the area. It's not super cheap, but it's not masly expensive either.
• Beaches Restaurant is part of the Rosslyn Bay Resort, and has a fairly mixed menu from Asian fusion through to Pizza. It is a short walk from the marina itself
• The Fishermans Co-Operative has a great range of fresh and frozen seafood - including fresh mud crabs, making your own boat one of the better places to eat after a trip over to that side of the harbour to get some of the good stuff they sell. They don't cook there, you would have to take your purchase back to your boat to cook yourself
• The Keppel Bay Sailing Club is in Yeppoon itself, and has reasonable club style food at club style (reasonable) prices.

Transportation

• Young's Bus Service (run by the State Government) has regular services that stop in Rosslyn Bay. Route 20 goes to Emu Park one way, and to Rockhampton the other, including services to and from Rockhampton airport.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club wins Best Club in Australia

With exceptional growth in membership, hosting highly successful regattas throughout the year, and consistent growth in participation across a range of club-related positions and activities, the Capricorn Coast’s Keppel Bay Sailing Club has anchored the top gong at the 2023 Australian Sailing Awards .

Held at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Friday 3 rd November, Australian Sailing’s annual honours evening proudly recognised achievements and acknowledged the contribution on members of their community.

The Awards have been the premier off-water celebration for sailing in Australia for many decades.

Following a track record of increased focus on their juniors and learn to sail programs, together with provision of financial support and encouragement to their members, staff and volunteers, Keppel Bay Sailing Club took out Australia’s Club of the Year (Category A) after being named Queensland’s Club of the Year in October. 

Established in 1957, Keppel Bay Sailing Club began with a group of passionate and dedicated sailors and volunteers who wanted to evolve sailing for the Yeppoon community. Today, the Club operates four venues and employs over 120 staff from the local area.

Keppel Bay Sailing Club’s General Manager, Mal Cochrane was thrilled to have the head of their sailing team, Mike Robinson accept the prestigious Award on behalf of the Club.

“Our entire organisation has focused and worked as one for many years now to ensure that we reached this pinnacle in the Club’s success,” Mal said.

“Sailing within the Capricorn Coast destination has grown significantly, and we are fortunate to have the support of a passionate team of staff and volunteers who have contributed to the Club’s accomplishments.”

Keppel Bay Sailing Club’s triumphs have been on the rise for some time, with the wheels currently in motion for the new state-of-the-art Keppel Bay Sailing.  Now visible as the old building was demolished and the new foundations are established, the facility will deliver a first-class conference venue for the Capricorn Coast and greater Central Queensland region.

The Club’s bold plans incorporate dramatic and prominent contemporary architecture, leading technologies, and a unique combination of innovative, yet functional meeting spaces and facilities.  

“We have overcome significant challenges of late with the main Clubhouse currently being rebuilt, and I would personally like to thank every one of our staff from glassies, bar staff, gaming staff,

kitchen staff and management who have all been part of the Club’s sailing achievement and should be very proud,” Mal said.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll congratulates the team from Keppel Bay Sailing Club, who continue to raise the bar for our destination through both the sport of sailing and tourism.

“The Keppel Bay Sailing Club has been a long-standing landmark proudly perched at the entrance point to Yeppoon’s main beach,” Mary said.

“Their sailing events not only welcome and encourage both amateur and experienced sailors, but regattas and racing events provide onlookers along Yeppoon’s foreshore precinct with a vibrant kaleidoscope of on-water activity as hundreds of sailing boats leave the beach.”

Service very ordinary. Need more experienced servers who know customer service . Juniors are great as learners, not as your main staff. With all of the renovations, the lack of customer service is a letdown. Too bad. However, the food was good.

Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

From as early as the 13th century, the waterway in Keppel Bay had been used as a passage for ships sailing from the Straits of Malacca to the South China Sea. The first English references to the waterway appeared in the 17th century although their small number suggests infrequent use of it.

In September 1819, William Farquhar, whom Sir Stamford Raffles appointed as the first Resident of Singapore, reported that he discovered a ‘new harbour’ to the west of the settlement.

In 1848, Captain Henry Keppel discovered the sheltered, deep water harbour onboard the vessel, Meander. Repairs on the Meander were the first carried out in the harbour, known as New Harbour, where the Tanjong Pagar wharves would later be built. That name remained until 1900, when Keppel, then the Admiral, visited Singapore again. To honour him, the acting Governor, Sir Alexander Swettenham, renamed the harbour Keppel.

The development of the harbour in mid-19th century in Singapore led to the prosperity of the island.

Within Keppel Bay are some of Singapore’s oldest docks.

The island’s first graving dock, Dock No 1, as it was known, was built in 1859. Eight years later, Dock No 2 was constructed, which is today one of the water channels purposefully incorporated into the architecture of Caribbean at Keppel Bay.

Under the modernisation programme for the port in the early 1900s, the 40,000 dwt. King’s Dock, then the second largest in the world, was opened on 26 August 1913.

The 30,000 dwt Queen’s Dock was opened in 1956 and is today the water channel which lies between Caribbean at Keppel Bay and Reflections at Keppel Bay.

The story of Keppel parallels that of Singapore.

With independence in 1963, the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) was formed. The Singapore Drydocks and Engineering Company was set up in 1968 to take over the Dockyard Department of the PSA. On 23 August 1968, the name of the company was changed to Keppel Shipyard (Private) Limited.

Keppel Shipyard’s first yard in Telok Blangah occupied what is now Caribbean at Keppel Bay, Reflections at Keppel Bay and the Keppel Island across the bridge. The shipyard operations have since relocated to Keppel’s facilities in Tuas, Jurong.

Keppel Shipyard is today part of Keppel Offshore & Marine, one of the world’s leading offshore and marine groups with a global network of 20 yards and offices.

The Moscow Boat Show 2018 took place from the 1st to the 3rd of June, 2018

Moscow Yacht Show 2018 , organized in the best yacht club of the Russian capital Royal Yacht Club, finished successfully. Despite the changeable weather from June 1 to 3 all three days of the exhibition were filled with events.

A lot of customers came to the show.

Sunrise Yachts, a luxury yacht building company which is based in Turkey, has been made a main sponsor of next year’s 2011 Moscow International Boat Show (MIBS). The four-day Russian yacht show event is currently scheduled to run from April 14-17 at the Moscow’s Crocus exhibition centre.

MIBS is organised by the ITE Group and it is one of Russia’s leading boat shows and is an internationally recognised superyacht event. The show covering everything from small parts and accessories to large superyacht with over 9,000 people and 178 exhibitors attended the last year show.

The Paolo Scanu-designed Sunrise 45 yacht is an ocean-going cruising yacht that was released in 2009 to much acclaim at this was the group’s first-ever model.

Sunrise Yachts was founded in 2007 by the German entrepreneur Herbert P Baum along with the French-British yacht builder Guillaume Roché. The luxury yacht group is based in Antalya, Turkey and utilises a 10,000sq m shipyard facility. Sunrise has two sheds measuring 100m (328ft) x 16m (53ft), as well as a 70m (230ft) x 16m (53ft) fully acclimatized paint shed that can accommodate new-build and refit projects up to 65m (213ft) in length and 1,200 tonnes displacement.

Along each side of the yacht-building facility, space is available for long-term sub-contractors with the latest equipment and logistics capabilities, along with air-conditioned storage, ventilation and extraction plants. The shipyard is organized as an “assembler,” based loosely on the car industry’s model, with a small, yet powerful project management team charged with running all the in-house long-term sub-contractors.
