2023 Boat Buyers Guide: Catamarans

  • By Karl Anderson

Catamaran spinning circles

The popularity of the multihull (aka catamaran or cat) fishing boats has never been greater, as more and more boatbuilders enter this growing segment of the market. The inherent stability of the catamaran design rolls less with the seas, making fishing offshore less tiresome and more comfortable. Available from 20 to 48 feet, catamarans typically offer a large fishing platform with generous storage and fishing amenities. They are available in a wide variety of deck layouts, including center-consoles, dual-consoles, and even pilothouse and express variants.

Catamaran foredeck

Big Picture

The large deck area of a catamaran enables many large underdeck storage lockers and insulated fish boxes in the sponsons. This gives anglers ample room for gear and the day’s catch. The catamaran’s stability, fishability, and smooth ride in rough seas make it attractive to anglers as well as day-cruisers. A center-console version adds 360 degrees of angler access to the rail. With the dual-console design, generous seating behind a beam-to-beam windshield makes for a great family fishing-friendly setup.

Live bait is one of the most popular types of fishing in virtually every coastal zone. To do it successfully requires optimal water capacity and proper flow. The minimum size of the outflow water plumbing should be twice the size of the inflow. The plumbing should have a drain at the bottom to shed scales at the end of the day, as well as a drain at the top of the well to adjust capacity and allow overflow. Above-deck transom-mounted wells should fully flood to the lids when running to keep baits from getting beat up.

Tip: A sump box with multiple pumps in case a pump fails is the best setup for first-rate livewells. Conveniently located inflow and outflow valves make it easy to optimize the flow without tiring your bait from swimming too much in the well.

Catamaran helm

Rod Storage

Having enough rod holders is essential to be successful for opportunity fishing. Look for vertical rod storage along the console and across the back of the T-top. Many models also have rod holders along the outboard transom wall. Having plenty of gunwale rod holders for drift- and kite-fishing is helpful.

Tip: Placing adjustable swivel rod holders by Gemlux makes deep-dropping, lure-fishing and drifting even easier because they allow your rods to face the direction the baits are fishing, yet they can be swiveled back to keep rods from sticking out of the boat while running and docking.

Manufacturers often offer multiple choices for horsepower, but whatever the choice, the engines must come in pairs. For example, you might order twin outboards (one for each sponson) or four outboards (two for each sponson), but single- or triple-outboard configurations are not common on a cat. Optimal selection should be made based on user load, weight of the boat, ride comfort , performance desires, and best case for resale. It’s a rare day when you can run wide open, but having more horsepower gives better torque at slower speeds and thus better control. Running larger engines slower gives better fuel efficiency too.

Tip: When possible, choose the highest horsepower offered because it typically leads to a better resale value with a shorter sales cycle.

Power steering from engine manufacturer Optimus or SeaStar is essential with the higher horsepower required for larger boats, and it makes installing and operating the upper station in a tower far more practical and comfortable.

With the power demands of electronics, livewell pumps, stereo amps and more, it is wise to have at least two house batteries, and for larger boats, a third or fourth with a multibank charger for dockside. Each engine should have its own dedicated battery as well.

Electronics

Typically choosing the largest screen or multiple screens that will fit on the console is best-case scenario for ease of use, ergonomics, and visibility. VHF radios, stereo controller, and equipment switches for lighting, pumps, and accessories should all be integrated with greatest visibility and ease of operator reach.

A Tale of Two Hulls

A catamaran rides on pair of hulls, or sponsons, each thinner and sharper than  that of a similarly sized monohull boat. The narrow sponsons of the cat tend to slice easily through water to deliver a smooth ride, even in rough seas. At the same time, with the sponsons positioned out to the sides of the boat, cats tend to roll less, thus providing great stability to enhance crew comfort, security and safety. However, cats tend to corner more flatly than a monohull, and some hulls (but not all) tend to lean outward versus inward during a turn.

Catamaran running

Experts Say

Newer designs such as Invincible’s Morelli and Melvin-designed semi-asymmetrical sponsons eliminate some of the negatives of the cat design, such as “sneezing,” where water sprays out the front of the boat when hitting a wave. They’ve also controlled the uncomfortable “outboard lean” sensation common in older designs when in a turn. Once transitioned to a catamaran, many become true believers and preach the benefits of the design.

Editor Says: Saltwater fishing cats not only offer superb stability and smooth ride, but some also display exceptional speed and range. I recall one trip out of Key West, Florida, aboard an Invincible 40 Cat with four 350 hp outboards to the Dry Tortugas. It was a 60-mile run, and we made it there in 70 minutes. We caught more fish than our arms could bear, and then dashed back to Key West, arriving in time for cocktail hour on the same day. -Jim Hendricks, Staff Editor, Boating and Fishing Group

The new HammerCat 45 is versatile and can work as a sportfish platform, a dive boat, a day cruiser, or a superyacht tender. This center console has a hardtop and a Carolina bow and is built in epoxy and carbon fiber to keep weight down and performance up. Expect a 55- knot top end and a 30-knot cruise depending on the engine package selected.

Sailing Catamarans:

This French-built sailing cruiser has space in spades. The new FP Tanna 47 is based on (and shares a hull design with) her predecessor, the Saona 47, but clever tweaks have made this a whole new boat. The cabin house and deck have been revamped, the flybridge is 40% larger, the salon/ galley has gained storage options, and the helm is more ergonomic than before.

Bali 4.4

Bali has captured the hearts of sailors who love lots of living space, large household-style appliances, and simplicity. Bali cats are unique for their combination salon/ cockpit layout, and the 4.4 joins her siblings in this groundbreaking design. With the touch of a button, a “garage door” lifts, connecting the indoors with the outdoors with minimum redundancy in living arrangements.

balance 442

Fast and packed with proven cruising features, the Balance 442 is the little sister to last year’s 482. Perfectly sized for couples, this boat was designed for distance cruisers by distance cruisers. There’s even an option for a large solar array to make living at anchor easy and just about carbon neutral.

Lagoon 55

An affordable multihull can be had in Europe’s Minicat 310 Sport, an inflatable beach cat weighing only 77 pounds and packing down into a single bag. This cat has sophisticated big boat features like roller furling, a fully battened mainsail, keels, and an attachment for a small outboard.

Best Catamaran Brands: Exploring the Multihull World

5th dec 2023 by john burnham / samantha wilson.

Rightboat logo

In the past 20 years, the catamaran segment has had a big make-over and expanded. These days, center console cats compete with monohulls as fishing and inshore power boats, and both sailing and motor cats cruise long distances, offering both large interiors and ample deck space, plus stability and safety. Whether you’re fishing closer to shore or cruising longer distances, catamarans are no longer seen as the less capable cousins. Some of the top brands in the sector have been driving the innovation for decades, but hot on their heels are daring and exciting newcomers who are pushing the boundaries. There are many excellent brands to choose from, and these are just a few of our favorites;

Leopard 50

Best Catamaran Fishing Boats

Invincible boats.

Power cats used specifically for fishing are big business as more people realize the huge speed and stability benefits they offer compared to their monohull counterparts. Invincible have been instrumental in the popularity boom with their excellent range of 33- to 46-foot center console fishing power cats. With cruising speeds of 50 mph (and as much as 70 mph), as well as a suite of advanced livewell systems and accessories, they are one of the industry leaders in this category.  Invincible boats for sale

Freeman Boatworks

Another major player in the power cat fishing sector are Freeman, whose 28- to 47-foot range of seriously hardy fishing cats offer incredible performance and speed (they can cruise at 80 mph) as well as huge fuel capacity and massive livewells. This means they’re perfectly equipped for offshore fishing adventures thanks to their four 450hp outboard engines and extremely comfortable ride even in rough sea conditions.  Freeman boats for sale

Best Power Catamaran Brands

Leveraging more than 30 years of building sailing catamarans, South African builders Robertson & Caine, with naval architect Simonis Voogd, has created today's range of Leopard power cruising cats, among the most highly regarded power cats on the market. The success of their seaworthy line of power cats over the last 10 years has included a 2022 International Best of Boats Award to the Leopard 46 Powercat and a Multihull of the Year award to the Leopard 53 Powercat. One of the smallest ocean-going motor cats is there new 40, which has been nominated as a European Yacht of the Year. Each model offers a spacious flybridge, modern and luxurious styling, and an impressive use of space, and even the 40 sleeps six in three private cabins.  Leopard boats for sale

Aquila Power Catamarans

Power cat specialists Aquila are relative newcomers but have been taking the sector by storm with the variety and scope of their innovative models. Whether its fuel efficiency and stable cruising you’re after for covering long distances, the capability of reaching offshore fishing grounds, or sporty, coastal and day boating that’s on your mind, Aquila has a boat worth looking at. Their offshore, sport, and yacht lines run from pocket-sized 28-foot Molokai fishing cat, to the 70-foot flagship superyacht. In between, we find models such as Aquila 54 Yacht Power Catamaran designed to transport you to every corner of the globe.  Aquila boats for sale

Best Bluewater Catamaran Brands

Fountaine pajot.

Long gone are the days when catamarans were purely coastal day sailers. Today, a whole new breed of boat is gaining huge popularity with bluewater and round the world sailors looking for more space and more stability than a monohull can ever offer (see our article on Catamarans vs Monohulls ). Fountaine Pajot have been industry leaders in this sector for 40 years, remaining one step ahead of the game with their sailing and now power cats. While they offer an 80-foot superyacht, it’s their 40-foot Isla, the smallest in the range, which is their flagship, showing their dedication to creating strong, safe, durable, and family-friendly boats.  Fountaine Pajot boats for sale

For those looking to buy a high-performance, safe, and incredibly spacious bluewater catamaran that can be handled by two people, the French Outremer brand should definitely be considered. The models feature daggerboards, unlike many cruising catamarans, and the result is superior upwind performance that can help you cover long distances much faster. The brand’s five models currently range from 45 to 55 feet, and in 2022, the Outremer 55 won both a European Yacht of the Year award and Multihull of the Year at the International Multihull Show. Whether you want an eco-yacht with electric power, or a larger family-friendly yacht complete with four full-sized cabins, Outremer has a lot to offer.  Outremer boats for sale

Best Sailing Catamaran Brands

Sailing purists often lament that sailing a catamaran isn’t true sailing, but these days there is much to argue in that statement. Balance is a relatively new brand, now building a range of beautiful multihull sailing boats, and earning recognition for their efforts—both Sailing World Magazine and Cruising World Magazine’s Boat of the Year Awards in 2022. Their designers, who come from racing backgrounds, have found the right point between a high-performance sailing vessel built with higher-tech materials and a practical, easy-to-handle boat that can be sailed across the oceans by a couple.  Balance boats for sale

Arguably one of the most famous names in the catamaran world, Lagoon was among the first to build practical, comfortable sailing catamarans and became the most popular brand worldwide. The brand has long been one of the top choices of catamaran charter companies the world over thanks to its spacious, practical, safe models. The boats are renowned for their ease of handling and a high level of comfort and luxury. The current model range of sailing cats starts at 40 feet and goes all the way up to 77 feet, while Lagoon power cats go a step farther, to 80 feet.  Lagoon boats for sale

Best Cruising Catamaran Brands

Whether cruising coastally or traversing great oceans, the capable, comfortable, meticulously crafted sailing cats by Antares are up there with the best of the best. Currently, the boutique brand builds six of its 44-foot models annually at their factory in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The creation of Canadian designer Ted Clements, the 44 has long-term living in mind, focusing on interior space (there’s even an industry-leading 6.75 feet of headroom in the master cabin), as well as long-term sustainability. A hybrid version is available that carries electric motors, a hydrogenerator and extensive solar panels.  Antares boats for sale

Built in Cape Town, South Africa, Xquisite catamarans are another relative newcomer making waves since their launch in 2014, recently earning awards from Cruising World and Sail magazines for the X5 Plus, a 54-footer. With a range of luxury power and sailing catamarans, unique styling, high performance, and emphasis on comfort make them very competitive in the cruising cat category. From their trailerable pocket-sized 30 SportCat sailing catamaran, to their Sixty Solar Sail and Sixty Solar Motor (using all green energy), as well as their two power cats, it’s a diverse and innovative range.  Xquisite boats for sale

Best Liveaboard Catamaran

Bali catamarans.

Catamarans offer twice as much interior space as a monohull of the same length, making almost all of them ideal liveaboards. If you’re looking for modern styling in the interior, you’d do well to start with one of the 38- to 54-foot models offered by BALI. Utilizing an open-space concept, a solid forward deck with built-in comforts, and the unique BALI doors that open the main saloon to the world outside in good weather, BALI Catamarans put an emphasis on liveaboard comfort, and even their models under 44 feet offer impressive amounts of space. Produced in France, by the well-known Catana shipyard, the brand has small-scale production ensuring each boat is of the highest quality.  BALI boats for sale

HH Catamarans

Relative newcomers to the catamaran world, HH launched in 2012 as a performance catamaran brand and is now giving some of the bigger brands a run for their money. Working exclusively with the successful US design firm of Morelli & Melvin and building at its own factory in Xiamen, China, the HH range now encompasses eight models between 44 and 88 feet in length. Hulls, decks and structures are very high-tech—100-percent carbon using infused epoxy resin. These semi-custom boats allow you to choose everything down to the layout of saloon and galley (as well as the helm positions) ensuring you have the perfect spaces for long-term living. With eco-credentials, elegant styling, and lightning speed, HH are collecting awards left, right, and center.  HH boats for sale

Best Small Catamaran Brands

Nautitech are one of the top names in the industry and their catamarans, built in France, are well-designed for both coastal cruising and bluewater sailing. Their range of small sailing catamarans—the 40 Open, 44 Open, and 48 Open—offer a good balance of performance, luxury, space, and safety, and as the name “Open” indicates, the main saloon can be opened wide to integrate saloon and cockpit spaces. Owned by Bavaria Yachts since 2014, Nautitech uses quality materials ensuring their boats, while smaller than many other brands, are equipped for long-distance adventures.  Nautitech boats for sale

Built in Australia, Seawind catamarans come in five models from 38 to 45 feet long (plus a 52-footer) and demonstrate lively performance in keeping with their relatively lighter weight and use of modest-sized diesel sail drives or outboard engines. The well-engineered boats are designed for those who wish to sail their own boats and have easy access to all control lines from the cockpit, while steering from helm stations either to port or start, well-protected from the elements. The brand has evolved over the years since its founding in 1982 but continues to produce according to its mission “innovative design, quality of finish, outstanding performance and sea-handling ability…”. Best Catamaran Brands for the Money

Catana are not inexpensive catamarans—in fact they are semi-custom in a production sense—and they’re not intended to be your typical series-built white, fiberglass model. It’s the performance and style that you get for your money that has put them on our best-value list. Part of the BALI Group, Catana has a long history of building high-performance, strong, capable, and spacious cats with daggerboards for upwind performance. Most recent models are 49 and 53 feet long, built with carbon-infusion hull construction. The small-scale of production means every vessel is constructed to top quality, meaning you’re getting exactly what you want  for your money.  Catana boats for sale

Beneteau’s Excess range is a recent introduction that offers good- performing, cruising catamarans at good value for the price, from the largest boatbuilder in the world. Built by CNB/Lagoon in France using their long-standing catamaran know-how, the Excess line of four models—37 to 49 feet—are lively performers without the price tag and complexity of other high-tech, high-performance sailing cats. Nonetheless, Excess lead designer Bruno Belmont has managed to pack a huge amount of features into even their smallest models, meaning you’re getting many of the features of a larger boat for a considerably lower price tag.  Beneteau boats for sale

Best Luxury Catamaran Brands

Described by one reviewer as the “Tesla of sailboats”, Kinetic’s range of luxurious catamarans are in a league of their own, built without compromise. In light winds, Kinetic cats can sail faster than wind speed. Founded in 2018, Kinetic catamarans are seriously high-quality, high-performing cruisers crafted in South Africa of all-carbon and infused epoxy resin construction to innovative designs by Simonis Voogd. The fact that they’re semi-custom allows owners to choose everything from the layout, to the rig, as well as the interior furnishings, fixtures, and equipment. While it probably doesn’t come as a surprise, these are some of the most expensive cats on the market by size, but the quality and build is flawless.  Kinetic official website

Sunreef Yachts

Sunreef’s range of exquisite custom-built sail and motor catamarans see them placed well into the superyacht category, with their luxury models ranging from 60 to 88 feet for power cats and 50 to 80 feet for their “smaller” sailing range. Established in Poland, Sunreef—and their founder and president Francis Lapp—were pioneers in the luxury catamaran sector, and remain ahead of the game today with consistent innovation and dedication to eco yachts including green propulsion, renewable energy, and sustainable finishing materials.  Sunreef boats for sale

2022 Boat of the Year: Best Performance Catamaran

  • By Cruising World Editors
  • December 15, 2021

During and in the four days immediately following the US Sailboat show in Annapolis, Maryland, the  Cruising World  judges inspected and sailed on 27 boats vying for recognition. Learn more about the boats in our  2022 Boat of the Year  »

OK, confession time. When the roster of nominees for the 2022 Boat of the Year awards was released, the contest’s team and judging panel couldn’t help themselves, and quietly put three check marks, little symbols of anticipation, alongside a trio of boats: the untamed cats that would vie for the title of best performer in their class. After all, both Balance and Seawind had entered the winner’s circle in previous BOTY competitions, and it was clear they’d have a serious contender for the throne in yet another player from cat-crazy South Africa, the Kinetic KC54. How’d it go? Let’s just say, nobody was disappointed. The conditions on Chesapeake Bay were ideal for putting the three nominees through their paces, and the trio of scalded cats all acquitted themselves superbly.

For 2022, if anything, the trend for flybridge catamarans is on a major upswing. New cats for 2022 from both Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot continued down that design path, putting an emphasis on living accommodations, not performance. But not aboard the latest Seawind 1600 , a brand originally built in Australia that is now produced in Vietnam. And that suits judge Tim Murphy just fine. “This boat was very dialed in,” he said, “and one place Seawind has always been innovative is with their helms. This one was really great; it was -outboard and aft with great visibility, sort of half-protected where you could step in and out. There was also good access to the boom and mainsail, which you don’t always see on cats. The deck layout was excellent, particularly the forward trampolines. Some cats have lacings with large openings where you can twist an ankle, but these were nice and tight.”

Seawind 1600

“Compared to other Seawinds that I’ve seen, I was just blown away with it in terms of what it could do and how it performed,” said Ed Sherman.  “It’s a fairly conservative boat in terms of technology compared to some of the other boats in the same category, which depending on a potential buyer’s state of mind, could be either a good thing or a bad one. I loved the centralized winch aft which is where all the sail-handling takes place. It’s pretty brilliant for a short-handed crew, and it’s all in a very safe and easy-to-access location that a cruising couple can deal with without scaring the heck out of themselves.”

The Kinetic KC54 is a fresh entry in the cat universe, and we’ll let Tim Murphy get right to the point: “This is a fairly new company that was started within the past couple of years. My breath was absolutely taken away by this boat; it was spectacular. I think it was the best-built boat in the entire fleet. It’s an all-carbon boat, with a foam core, epoxy resin, all infused–fantastic. The whole boat felt integrated. You didn’t feel like there was a conflict between the forces in terms of accommodation versus performance.” With a price tag approaching $3 million, it perhaps should not be astonishing. That was a major factor in evaluating the boat, and while it did not win its class, the experts panel did present it with a Judges’ Special Recognition prize to honor the boat’s overall excellence.

Kinetic KC 54

“It was my personal favorite in this year’s contest,” said Sherman. The materials that were used are absolutely the highest quality available in our industry at this point, and it’s a very high-tech boat in terms of systems.” Gerry Douglas was also duly impressed: “This was the Tesla of sailboats. I think that that was their model. In terms of design and execution and technology, it hit all three of those marks. This boat is built without compromise, and what it cost was not an issue, they just wanted to do the best they could in every aspect of the boat. The construction was impeccable, the fit and finish was amazing. There are some very clever design things in the boat, but it all really worked seamlessly.”

With that level of competition, the Balance 482 had a tall order to overcome to win its class. And it did. “The sailing performance was excellent,” said Douglas. “The boat felt really good. The steering was terrific. The structure of the boat throughout was exemplary. Storage is really good. Visibility was good. Ventilation was great. There was even a rain collection system on the cabin top, which is the only one of the boats we looked at had that. It was very well concealed because the gutters formed a handhold going forward. The solar panel installation was also well done. The panels were encapsulated into a fiberglass tray that elevated the deck so the panels wouldn’t overheat. Very clever.”

Balance 482

The driving force behind Balance cats is Phil Berman, a world champ at racing beach cats who brought that passion to developing and marketing fully found cruisers. Judge Murphy knows him well: “Phil comes from a very strong view of wanting to see boats that have solid sailing performance. He’s also a strong proponent of daggerboard boats, which tends to be quick shorthand for the dividing line between cats that are more about payload versus cats that are about performance, but not so much where you’re going to fly a hull or break a rudder. There’s a balance within a boat that really performs that you can still live aboard.” A winning balance, it turns out, with the Balance 482 securing its position as the Best Performance Cruiser for 2022.

Best Catamarans (Plus Pro Tips and Buying Guide)

OUTREMER 45

OUTREMER 45

MANTA 42

PRIVILEGE 435

Chris Riley

Monohulls are good, but they can’t beat the comfort, speed, and performance of multihulls. So, if you are looking to make the switch from a small boat to a catamaran, you’ve come to the right place.

Many sailors find the construction and design of these vessels very appealing, and that has led to the building of various brands of catamarans to satisfy the needs of different owners. Whether you are searching for a sailing catamaran or a power catamaran, this list will present you with the best catamaran options available to help you decide which is most suitable for you.

So, we invite you to carefully go through this list if you are ready to plunge into the world of catamarans or cats for short.

DOLPHIN OCEMA 42

DOLPHIN OCEMA 42

If you are searching for the best catamaran with a perfect balance between cruising comfort and high performance, look no further than the Dolphin Ocema 42 .

Designer Phillipe Pouvreau put in a lot of work to ensure that this boat meets the demand for excellent performance without compromising comfort. For this reason, the Dolphin was designed to have a foam core in a bid to reduce weight throughout the boat. This makes the boat a comfortable cruising platform with a rich history of successful circumnavigations.

This is one of the few catamarans on this list equipped with daggerboards. The feature means that the boat will be able to pull into most anchorages, including shallower ones. It also allows the boat to pull to point higher on the wind and have a reduced surface that is immersed in water.

Check out the current listings for Dolphins here .

  • LOA: 41 ft 3 in
  • Beam: 23 ft
  • Draft: 3 ft 3 in / 6 ft 6 in
  • Displacement: 24, 255 lb (loaded)

Price Guide: $220,000 – $350,000

Buying/Pro Tips

While the Dolphin can point higher on the wind, the rudders will be left exposed if you lift up her daggerboards. And as with all vessels with daggerboards, the trunk reduces valuable interior space. Also, in the event that grounding occurs, the daggerboards are likely to compromise the hull integrity.

Note that before the global financial crises of 2008, Dolphins were built in Brazil. A few of these boats were built at other yards after the crises. So, before you purchase one, be sure there are no modifications to the structure, addition of transom, or any other deviation from the production boats.

The Outremer 45 is for those whose pockets run a little bit deeper. This special Gerard Danson design is a classic with a cute interior, well-proportioned bows, and very responsive to the helm.

Careful planning went into the design to make sure that the weight distribution of the vessel is balanced. This ensures smooth sailing and minimizes possible pitching. But that is to be expected of an exclusive multihull model that wasn’t mass-produced. And even though its major parts were built and molded in an infusion process, a semi-production manufacturing mode was employed in building this vessel.

Here’s basically what all these comes down to: the interior structure of the boat is very stiff because the components were directly laminated to the hull.

The Outremer 45 can be purchased in a few different versions. There is an owner’s version, a four-cabin layout version, and a club version that features extra berths in the owner’s hull. This vessel truly deserves to be on any list that features the best catamaran.

Check out Outremer 45 listings .

  • Draft: 2 ft 7 in / 7 ft 3 in
  • Displacement: 15,400 lb (light ship)

Price Guide: $320,000 – $560,000

This vessel is a bit pricey, but that’s not so much of an issue compared to its volume. For its length, the Outremer 45 is perhaps the catamaran with the smallest interior. Be aware also, that the composite panel overhead that comes with some versions tends to become waterlogged, even with brief rainfalls. You might want to change the composite if you ordered one of the versions with that option.

An enormously curved integrated forward crossbeam with trademark high bows; these are the unmistakable features that make the Manta 42 stand out from the crowd and easily recognizable even from a distance. This multihull, designed by the talented Eric Lerouge, is a true America classic.

These boats have an owner’s association and an impressive following; a clear testament to their high quality. The Marina 42 is an excellent cruising catamaran with a great SA/D ratio and plenty of room.

If you want the best catamaran that will allow flexible upgrades to its transoms and aft cockpit, the Marina 42 might be your best bet. A few versions of this boat come with daggerboards, while others have stub keels. Some owners have added massive pushpit contraptions that can accommodate wind vanes, dinghies, solar panels, and even herb gardens!

Most used Manta 42 catamarans have a starting price within the range of $200K. Find more listings here .

  • LOA: 39 ft 8 in
  • Beam: 21 ft
  • Draft: 3 ft 8 in
  • Displacement: 13,500 lb (light ship)

Price Guide: $200,000 – $320,000

Here’s a quick note about the bow area of the Manta. The catamaran has fixed aluminum crossbeams that absorb the massive twisting forces of the bows. In other words, there is only a slight movement allowed. You want to look out for stress cracks in the bows if you are purchasing a used Manta.

NAUTITECH 44

NAUTITECH 44

The Nautitech 44 was a trendsetter back in the day when it launched with its integrated hardtop bimini – the first-ever sub-50 ft cat to do so!

The boat comes in two versions – single-wheel steering and twin wheels. Sailors who want a better view of the sails and experience the sensation of sailing prefer to choose the version with twin wheels farther aft. The saloon door can also be left open during a heavy downpour without water getting into the entrance.

Several layouts are available below the decks. In a nutshell, if you are looking for the best catamaran for a live-aboard couple, the Nautitech 44 is the perfect boat for you.

Check out the current listings for Nautitech 44 .

  • LOA: 44 ft 2 in
  • Beam: 22 ft 4 in
  • Draft: 3 ft 11 in
  • Displacement: 19,780 lb (light ship)

Price Guide: $240,000 – $360,000

The hulls in the Nautitech 44 are slimmer than most average hulls, which gives it increased speed. However, there’s a small tradeoff. Faster speed means a little less volume and payload. This might not be the right vessel for you if you intend to bring along heavy gear. Here’s one huge plus for the Nautitech 44 that can set intending owners’ minds at ease. These boats are built with moisture-resistant closed-cell foam.

The lavish construction and luxurious finish of the Privilege 435 are what stand it out from the rest of the catamarans on this list. These vessels have been around for about three decades, so the yard is not new to the usual highs and lows in the business. They are built as long-distance, heavy-displacement catamarans that tow the traditional French multihulls designs.

Sailors looking to purchase well-constructed catamarans on the high-end range will easily fall in love with this vessel, whether new or used. The Privilege 435 is available in two versions; one as an owner’s version and the other with four cabins and four heads and showers.

These cruiser vessels don’t come cheap. Prices start around $300K for well-maintained used ones. You can check out current listings for Privilege 435 here .

  • LOA: 43 ft 1 in
  • Beam: 23 ft 2 in
  • Draft: 4 ft 5 in
  • Displacement: 18,300 lb (light ship)

Price Guide: $300,000 – $350,000

There are a lot of positives for the Privilege 435, as is reflected in the asking prices. However, it is important to point out that the bridge deck clearance tilts toward the low side, so you might have slight issues with the noise of the waves hitting the bottom of the vessel. The trick would be to keep the boat light for a smoother cruising experience.

The catamaran has a low-slung structure designed for low wind resistance. This might not be a problem for every sailor and is even pleasing to many people. But if you intend to cruise tropical regions, the heat buildup as a result of the sunlight coming in from the windows might pose a challenge. While other cats have overhangs to block out sunlight, the Privilege 435 provides internal window shades only.

How to Choose the Best Catamaran – Buying Guide

Many buyers don’t easily recognize the common pitfalls associated with choosing the right catamaran.  For this reason, we’ve compiled a short guide to help steer you away from those pitfalls and in the right direction.

We invite you to carefully consider the following before taking the plunge.

best catamaran for fishing

1. Identify Your Needs

The first thing you need to do when choosing the best catamaran is to decide what you will need the boat for. Are you looking for a vessel to use occasionally on a few weekends? Do you intend to live aboard for a long while? Do you want a boat for coastal cruising? Are you looking to get into some commercial survey?

When you have decided on your needs, it will guide you on the type, size, and style of vessel that will best meet those needs.

2. Decide on Your Budget

A realistic budget will help you choose the best catamaran with the size and style you prefer. But you probably already know that. Keep in mind to also budget for other expenses such as registration , marina fees, maintenance, insurance , and others. If you are purchasing a used boat, you may also need to set aside funds for repairs or upgrades.

3. Decide on a Purchase Timeframe

It may not seem obvious to many buyers but setting a time frame for the purchase process is an important part of choosing the right vessel. When you decide on the best time to buy your dream boat, it will guide where and when to start looking. For example, you will be on the lookout for events such as free multihull open days, upcoming boat shows, and even going to inspect marinas and brokers.

4. Research

It goes without saying that you can’t make an informed decision about the best catamaran without adequate research. Even if you already have a model in mind, take the time to gather all the relevant information you can about the boat before making your final decision. Speak to a broker, and, if possible, don’t just inspect only one boat.

5. Decide on a Keel Type

There are two keel types to choose from: fixed keels and daggerboards with both having their pros and cons.

Most cats come with fixed keels and allow for easy beaching. In some models, the fixed keels are sacrificial, meaning they take the impact and keep the hull from damage. Fixed keels also mean that the vessel has more interior space. However, the drawback is that boats with fixed keels don’t attain enough height when sailing upwind.

Catamarans with daggerboards are excellent for pointing better upwind, so you don’t have to worry about long passages. But they reduce usable interior space.

So, in choosing the best catamaran for your needs, decide which is more important to you. Do you prefer a boat with the ability to point higher upwind while sacrificing a portion of interior space? Or would you want a vessel with the ability to beach your boat easily and give more interior space, while losing some degree of height sailing upwind?

6. Bridge Deck Clearance

If you want a quieter ride on the water, with less noise from the wave slapping the underside of your boat, then you need to consider the space between the hulls from the waterline to the bottom of your boat. This space is known as the bridge deck clearance. The wider the space, the quieter and smoother your cruise will be.

7. Custom Design Vs. Production Cat

Choosing between a custom design and a production catamaran is pretty straightforward. On the one hand, customs designs are built to meet your exact needs. However, the downside of these vessels is that they are difficult to maintain and service since the parts are not readily available, and the construction knowledge might not be common.

On the flip side, a production catamaran is usually from a major brand with many years of experience, reliable construction, proven designs, and solid warranties. This makes it a lot easier to maintain and service them. Plus, they tend to retain their value so that reselling won’t be an issue.

8. Consider the Payload

The payload of a catamaran will determine how much gear you can bring on board. Keep in mind that all cats are weight-sensitive, but some can be less forgiving than others. You will need to choose a vessel that will take all the gear you have in mind without buckling under the weight. Generally, multihulls designed for fast cruising are far less forgiving than their production catamaran counterparts.

9. Physical Inspection

Lastly, you need to physically inspect the vessel by yourself to make sure it is as advertised and meets your needs. Paying for a boat you haven’t sighted is not the best course of action. To be on the safest side, it would be helpful if you hire an expert, such as a marine surveyor, to also inspect and give you a report on the boat’s condition.

The inspection doesn’t just end with seeing the boat. You need to take it for a sea trial to get a first-hand feel of the boat and all its systems, including engines, sails, windlass, and winches.

Bottom Line

Everyone loves the smell of a brand new catamaran and the polished topsides of a new boat. But the fact is that not everyone can cough up the premium required to have such a luxury. But the good thing is that you can find an older boat in great condition and sellers who will part with their boats (reluctantly) at the right price. As long as you are willing to do a few minor repairs and upgrades, all of the boats on this list will give you several years of amazing cruising comfort.

But whether you go for a used boat or pay through the nose to own a brand new boat, you will find a cat that suits every budget. Also, keep in mind that choosing the best catamaran is not just about fanciful equipment and superb layouts. Although those, too, are great, it is in your best interest to pay more attention to the basics, such as solid construction, a good sail plan, and a bridge deck that is properly dimensioned.

If you are buying a used catamaran, it definitely makes sense to focus more on the basics because you will be entrusting your life (and the lives of everyone that will be on board) to a boat that you most likely know next to nothing about its history.

The Insetta 35IFC was designed with a singular vision… to be the best-performing center console sport fishing catamaran in its class.  Enjoy unmatched performance, range, and efficiency thanks to the 35IFC’s hydrofoil-assisted design.

In addition to being the best High-Performance Fishing Catamaran in its class, it also provides a smoother and dryer ride in the rough stuff!

This boat was designed for people who fish, by people who fish!  From its integrated livewells to its cavernous coffin boxes, level open deck layout, massive insulated storage and so much more, this boat was designed for maximum range and fishability!

Here’s what our customers have to say: “Holy crap do I love my 35 IFC with the Merc 300 V8’s on the back. We ran her down to Key Largo the other day, snorkeled all day, got lunch at Shipwrecks Bar and Grill, and ran back. Cruised between 40 and 45 mph, mostly around 42. So smooth it’s nuts. Burned maaaayyybe 40 gallons for the whole day. As we cruised the dashboard was telling us between 1.7 and 1.8 mpg, but I’m pretty sure we cruised more than 40 miles and burned between 35 and 40 gallons, no more. So… suffice it to say that you guys have absolutely crushed it and changed the game here. Fantastic work”! – Alan, Hull #4

Frequently Asked Questions

IFC is Insetta Boatwork's Internal Foiling System.

You can expect a significant increase in cruise speed; Improved handling and stability in rough conditions; Better acceleration; A boat that is less affected by increased payload; A 20-40% increase in fuel efficiency; and a 20-40% further cruise range! Additionally, the IFC technology will also provide a drier ride in choppy conditions and Provide for more responsiveness when turning at speed!

The system is a fixed setup, there is nothing to operate and there are zero moving parts.

The IFC Technology in effect smooths out rough seas by allowing the boat to run from wave crest to wave crest at a relatively smooth and stable attitude. The IFC System creates lift which help to in effect “Carry” the hull higher in the water. The system acts as a set of wings carrying the boat at speed, keeping the hull from having to follow each wave across its entire contour. In other words the surface of the waves have less effect on the hull as the IFC system is lifting the boat. Additionally, the aerodynamic lift created by the catamaran hulls creates even more lift at the bow of the boat, keeping the nose high and preventing the “slamming” or sneezing found in other catamaran hulls.

No, you don’t. The foils are flush mounted to the bottom of the keels of each sponson (as well as up in the tunnel.) At its centerline the main foil of the IFC system is only slightly lower than the keel line. The boat will easily load onto a standard catamaran trailer. There is no big contraption hanging way down under the boat.

Remember, the foils are INTERNAL to the tunnel. At its lowest point the main foil is only slightly lower than the hull and is higher than the props. Because of this the odds of striking the foils are extremely low. The boat is designed to be lifted by the foil. The structural integrity of the foil system is such that the weight of the boat could be supported many times over by the foil. As such, if you did somehow manage to strike the foil on something EXTREMELY SUBSTANTIAL, like a stone shoal, the likely outcome is that you may (in a very worst case scenario) bend or break a foil wing. If that were to happen, you could still operate the boat to port with the remaining foils. The IFC foils are made from a very high-grade stainless steel and designed to meet or exceed relevant guidelines for impact and strength.

As water travels through the tunnel and around the foil, a tremendous vortex is created. This force keeps most debris from being trapped in the tunnel or around the foil. Between the pressure of the air moving through the tunnel, and the vortex created in the water, the tunnel and foils will stay clean and clear.

The outboards of the 35 IFC are mounted on a slight outward angle to place the propellers properly to maximize the thrust and flow efficiency created as the water travels through the tunnel and around the foils. This mounting also helps the boat to lean into a corner, much like a monohull.

Firstly, we’d ask, “Why would you want to?” But the short answer is no. IFC is an integrated system that is integral to the design of the boat.

The short answer is that boats with technology similar to IFC have been in use for many years, but not in the recreational market. Commercial and Military applications are quite prevalent. The initial design of a hull and system like this is quite complex and can be cost prohibitive. We at Insetta feel the gains in efficiency, speed, range and ride quality far outweigh the initial design and build cost.

Upon deciding to build a foiling Cat, Insetta assembled a team of naval Architects and Marine Engineers to refine an existing and proven design. Using their own state of the art construction techniques, Insetta brought an application specific version to the fiberglass Center Console market.

Why did Insetta Boatworks decide to build a boat with IFC?

For decades, Hydrofoil power boats have proven to be the most efficient craft for a variety of offshore operations.

While pursuing a B.S. in physics in 1960, Victor Insetta was employed doing anti-submarine research that utilized high speed Deep-V patrol boats equipped with hydrofoils. Their ability to pursue submarines at high speed, operate safely offshore, and, being foil borne: allowed their hull to run clear of the water avoiding direct hits from torpedoes. Decades later, Vic and his family rode comfortably on hydrofoil ferries in Italy, flying over white capped waves in the bay of Naples.

In 2017, The Insetta 45 was chosen to be the official chase boat of the America’s cup! Four 45’ Insetta’s catamarans were shipped to Bermuda to assist at various cup events. Sailboats, competing from several countries, were catamarans with hydrofoils ! The Insetta 45’s ran parallel to these “foiling sail cats” to assist with TV coverage. The sailing cats were traveling at speeds approaching 50 mph, 2 ½ times the wind speed . Efficient … you bet . They could also turn on a dime at over 40 mph…

It became obvious: that a foiling cat would make a great offshore outboard power boat… Many foil power boat designs in the past, had wide foils that stuck out the sides, increasing their beam and draft. It made them difficult to dock, and they couldn’t operate in shallow waters. Joel Shine (chief operating officer) of Insetta Boatworks found a catamaran design that had hydrofoils mounted in the tunnel, (that location between the tunnel walls actually improves their efficiency), and does not add to its draft. Further improvements could be added by using our ultra-light high strength infused composite construction.

Joel, Vic and our technical staff reviewed the foiling cat’s initial specifications and performance data, and then sea trialed two foiling cats with internal hydrofoils. Our staff includes a second physicist and pilot… Glen Dobbs. We are all active boaters and we determined we would build our version of a foiling outboard powered cat. We contacted a Naval architect, who designed several successful foiling power cats . He is now a member of our technical staff.

Our 35 “foiling cat” design has set the standard for Foil-Assisted Sportfishing boats. The hull, foils, materials, and engines are synergistically combined, to provide: unrivaled high-speed cruising efficiency , and provide safe offshore handling, with unimpeded shallow water operation, including beaching, without foils or props contacting the bottom.

Best Catamaran Fishing Boats Buying Guide

1. Rig Type: Catamarans are generally classified as either hard-lay or soft-lay. The distinction refers to how the two hulls are connected.

In a hard-lay configuration, the bridge deck is fixed between the hulls. The advantage is that this allows for the boat to be transported on a trailer. The disadvantage is that the boat’s performance is affected by the amount of heeling. In a soft-lay configuration, the bridge deck is suspended from the middle hull. The advantage is that this allows for minimal heeling and better performance. The disadvantage is that the boat cannot be transported on a trailer.

2. Bridge Type: Catamarans can be either open or enclosed. An open bridge allows for greater visibility, but is often more subject to the elements. An enclosed bridge protects the crew from weather, but reduces visibility.

3. Number Of Crew: Catamarans can be designed for anywhere from one to eight crew. The number and type of crew will depend on the size and type of vessel, as well as the type of fish to be harvested.

4. Fish Processing: Some catamarans are specifically designed to process fish onboard. In this case, they will include features such as fish hold capacities, pump-out systems, and fish processing stations.

5. Deck Space: In addition to fish processing stations, some catamarans will include features such as additional deck space with cabin attachments, fish hold coolers, and deck boxes.

6. Fish Hold Capacity: Fish hold capacity will depend largely on what types of fish are to be harvested, as well as the type of ice that will be used. Fish hold capacity can be anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 gallons.

7. Ice System: The type of ice system to be used will depend largely on the location of the vessel, as well as the type of fish to be harvested. There are three main types of ice systems: dry ice, mechanical, and chest.

2023 Boat Buyers Guide: Catamarans

  • By Karl Anderson
  • December 27, 2022

Fill ‘er Up (With Air): The 6 Best Inflatable Catamarans for Fishing, Fun and Portability

Fill ‘er Up (With Air): The 6 Best Inflatable Catamarans for Fishing, Fun and Portability

From the wooden rafts of Polynesia to the 60s surf culture of the Hobie Cat, catamarans (or simply cats) have been a fun way to enjoy the local lake, ocean or bay.

That seemingly effortless way they glide across the water is both relaxing and exhilarating.  What's not relaxing is lugging a heavy vessel across the sand or investing in an expensive traditional catamaran.

Have you considered an inflatable catamaran? Inflatable catamarans are a less expensive and more portable option to traditional cats. You can even use them as inflatable dinghies and yacht tenders.

The main design of a cat is 3000 years old and influenced by the Polynesian wooden rafts that made long journeys across the Pacific. You don't have to journey across the Pacific (or even the Atlantic) to enjoy the fun, convenience and diversity of catamarans.

Keep reading to discover more about inflatable catamarans and how they might be just what you need for fishing, diving or just cruising around the lake.

What is an Inflatable Catamaran?

With a design based on geometry, just like their traditional non-inflatable counterparts, inflatable catamarans offer stability and smooth sailing due to the wide beam and double- hulled tubes on either side.

This isn't your typical full-size dive/snorkel/sightseeing catamaran you've seen in the local marina. They range in size from eight to 15 or so feet and can be propelled by sails, an outboard engine or a pair of oars.

The unique thing about inflatable catamarans is that they, well, inflate, as well as deflate for storage in a car or on a bigger boat. This also makes it easier to carry to and from the water.

Similar in design to a pontoon boat, inflatable catamarans have actually been called pontoon boats (though they're technically not), along with fishing boats or even inflatable kayak s (which they're really not either).

While they don't have cabins or storage in the tubes like full-size (non-inflatable) cats, they can accommodate anywhere from two to eight passengers depending on size.

Benefits of Inflatable Catamarans

  • Lightweight
  • Foldable (like a folding kayak )
  • Fuel Efficient
  • Wide beam for stability
  • Small enough to navigate small coves and sandbars

Features of Inflatable Catamarans

Parallel Tubes:  Two pontoon-like tunnel-hull tubes, located on either side of the platform, provide stability and flotation. They usually have multiple chambers to make inflation easier.

Wide Beams:  Like a traditional cat, this makes it stable for one or multiple passengers whether you're fishing, anchoring out or just cruising around the lake.

Sectional Aluminum Floors:  Sturdy aluminum provides a stable surface. Sections make it easier to put together and take apart.

PVC Hulls:  The bottoms of inflatable catamarans are usually made out of durable PVC, which helps prevent tension and tearing.

Heat-Welded Seams:  Heat welding ensures a sturdy, durable and water-resistant seam that can stand up to saltwater, fresh water and high heat. The high heat factor comes into play if you store it for long periods of time (such as in a garage, shed or attic).

Marine Plywood Transom:  Marine plywood is designed especially for wet, humid and marine environments. It makes a strong material to hold a small outboard engine.

Multiple Propulsion Methods:  Inflatable catamarans can be operated with outboard engines , sails or oars and paddles .

Uses for an Inflatable Catamaran

  • Tender/Dinghy
  • Diving/Snorkeling
  • Support vessel for watersports such as swimming, kayaking and rowing

Six of the Best Inflatable Catamarans

1. bris 15.4 ft. inflatable boat.

Check price on Amazon

Constructed out of 2000 Denier 1.2mm PVC fabric, this inflatable catamaran is durable and resistant to tearing and tension.

It has sturdy heat-welded seams that are guaranteed to last in saltwater , fresh water and high heat.  Reinforced fabric withstands rugged gear like dive tanks and fishing tackle.

A marine plywood transom provides space for an outboard motor (it can handle a 35 HP engine). A deep-V keel with rub-strake protection offers easy planing.

The tube bottoms each have a double layer of fabric that provides protection from sharp rocks, sticks and other debris.

There are five individual chambers, a one-way drain valve with a plug, built-in oarlocks and a strap to secure a gas tank.

It comes with a PVC hull, aluminum floor panels, three aluminum bench seats, two aluminum oars , a carrying bag and a foot pump.

2. BRIS 11 ft. Inflatable Catamaran

If you're looking for a great cat in a smaller size than the 15-foot BRIS, this 11-foot BRIS is a terrific alternative.

The main tubes and floor fabric on this cat are made out of 1100 denier 0.9 mm PVC. The tubes each have two air chambers, and the floor is 80 mm thick.

A marine plywood transom can accommodate an outboard motor. Tube bottoms have two small fins for better direction. Extra wide rub strakes on tube bottoms allow you to pull up on rocks.

It comes with a foot pump, carrying bag, oars and a repair kit.

3. BRIS 9.8 ft. Inflatable Boat

Whether you're diving, snorkeling or fishing, the heavy-duty 1,100 denier 0.9 mm PVC and polyester support provide resistance to tearing, tension and breaking.  The sectional aluminum floor is sturdy and has a corrosion-proof platform.

The transom is covered with triangular splash guards to minimize splashing and protect the transom holders from heat and exposure to UV rays.  Getting up on a plane is easy via the deep-V keel with rub strake protection.

This inflatable cat has heat-welded seams, separate internal air chambers and a marine plywood transom.

4. Sea Eagle Inflatable FoldCat ProAngler Fishing Boat

Check Price on Amazon

For the fishing enthusiast, the Sea Eagle inflatable cat makes a great alternative to bass boats. Designed for two adults, or 650 pounds, this cat is made of 1000 denier and has quadruple overlap seams, raised oarlocks, rod holders and a motor mount.

Two swivel seats sit up high above the floor, making this cat an excellent choice as a fishing kayak . The casting bar is one of my favorite features for visibility and stability while fishing.

A folding frame provides a stable and rigid floor platform. There are carrying handles at the front and back.

5. Dolphin 8.8 ft. Model SB-270A “ 2021 Inflatable Sports Boat

Sleek and contoured, the Dolphin is my pick for best inflatable catamaran. It has more of a sporty look than some.

Created by nautical engineers to provide rear buoyancy and faster planning, it's made of .9 mm 1100 denier reinforced PVC material, which is UV, oil and puncture resistant. Thick PVC holds 8 PSI and provides a stable air deck floor.

Easily portable, it can be assembled and disassembled in about 10 minutes. It has one front and four rear exterior carrying handles.

It comes with a removable seat bag and cushion, two aluminum oars, a carrying and storage bag and two front towing D-rings.

6. Inflatable 1.2 mm PVC 15 ft. Windsurfing Catamaran

We didn't forget the sailors and Hobie cat enthusiasts in the group. This super cute inflatable catamaran comes with two sails made of 3.8 OZ Dacron.

The PVC tubes are 1.2 mm. Each has an air chamber. It can accommodate four passengers and is easily assembled in about 30 minutes.

It comes with a pump and carrying bag but doesn't include oars or a motor.

Catamaran fishing boats: why you should consider an offshore multihull boat.

  • August 27, 2020

The market for offshore catamarans has exploded in recent years, and catamaran fishing boats are driving much of the surge in popularity. Newer catamarans are bigger, faster, highly fuel efficient and a near ideal fit for the angler on the west coast of Florida that needs to run 50 to 100 miles to his favorite fishing spot. The new breed of catamaran fishing boats not only have impressive range and quality of ride, but new designs bring about improved handling that might even convert the most fervent monohull enthusiast.

With the ever increasing power of outboard engines on the market today, manufacturers are emphasizing larger catamaran models. The notable catamaran brands such as Invincible focus on the 35-foot to 46-foot range of models. These larger cats are spacious, can hold a massive amount of fuel with space to store all your gear and belongings and offer a better ride quality than previous generation, smaller catamarans.

Catamarans vs. V-Hull (Monohull)

Much of the discussion when comparing the multihull catamaran design with a standard V-hull or monohull design surrounds ride quality. Ride quality of course can mean a number of things such as how the boat deals with rougher conditions, stability at rest, handling and more.

The multihull design of a catamaran fishing boat is well known for reducing vessel roll at rest and at trolling speeds. Increased stability is a key attribute of any multihull boat when compared to a monohull.

Generally speaking, when running in rougher seas, the catamaran’s multiple sharper hulls will slice through the water providing a very comfortable ride. Catamarans typically won’t handle hard turns as well as a monohull since the multihull vessel will tend to remain flat or even lean outboard, but newer designs and innovations have narrowed the gap between monohulls and catamarans in this area.  Invincible  catamarans even introduce a lean into the turn helping mimic the handling of a monohull. Still, even with these gains in handling ability, experienced boaters can tell a difference between the monohull maneuverability at speed compared to a multihull.

Worth noting also is the spaciousness provided by the multihull design. Because the beam is carried forward, giving the deck a more rectangular shape, there is more space to move around.

The multihull design does more than just provide additional stability and deck space. Because less of the boat is sitting in the water as a result of two hulls, the fuel economy on catamaran fishing boats is outstanding. Less displacement means a more efficient fuel burn. Combine the efficiency with the bountiful storage, and you’ve got a range on offshore cats worthy of anyone’s consideration.

Whether you need a center console capable of carrying 800 gallons of fuel or just need storage for all of your supplies for a few days in the Bahamas, a multihull can meet these needs.

Catamaran Fishing Boats by Invincible

When Tom George Yacht Group sought to carry a line of catamaran fishing boats for TGYG customers on the west coast of Florida, Invincible was the ideal fit for a number of reasons. While other manufacturers have introduced catamaran models adjacent to existing boat lines, no manufacturer invested the time, money and research & development resources into a launch of high performance catamaran models like Invincible.

Invincible hired legendary naval architecture firm Morelli & Melvin – renowned for catamaran racing hull design – to assist in the design of Invincible’s first offshore catamaran. The significant investment of time and resources led to the hybrid, semi-asymmetric design for which Invincible catamaran hulls are known. These boats are made to be fast and highly fuel efficient, but they’re also made to handle. The patented hull design enables high speed maneuvering turns unlike any similar-sized catamaran on the market.

As Invincible says, “no other catamaran possesses the seakeeping abilities of an Invincible hull without the aid of trim tabs or ballast tanks.”

The success of the 40 catamaran launch paved the way for the roll-out of the smaller 37 and 35 and now, also, the 46. The result is a lineup of offshore catamarans customers love and competitors envy.

Catamaran Fishing Boats

For the customer, the ability to customize an Invincible catamaran is impressive. Everything from cup holder placement to rod holders, from the seating configuration to the type of windshield can be perfectly dialed into a customer’s exact needs and desires. Overwhelmed by too many options? The TGYG team can help guide you through the process. Simple put, when you purchase a catamaran, Invincible bends over backwards to meet your every need.

For the Florida west coast angler where long runs are typical, the Invincible offshore cat might be an ideal fit. As a general rule, every model in the Invincible line has a minimum 400 mile range at 40 mph. With the Invincible 40 catamaran, that range gets you over 650 miles at 40 mph.
