As the year draws to a close, we take a look back at ten of the most impressive new listings to join the market in the past 12 months.

Length: 155m

Kicking off this list is the elusive 155 metre Al Said which joined the market for the first time in 2022. Built under the codename Project Sunflower, she was launched in 2008 by German shipyard Lürssen with design by the legendary Espen Oinø . She was owned by the Sultan of Oman and was the world's second-largest yacht when she first touched the water. Standout features include 26 cabins for 70 guests, a helipad, medical room and a performance room that seats 50.

Length: 115m

Pelorus , the former flagship of the Lürssen fleet, was revealed for the first time this year as she joined the market with SuperYachtsMonaco . Her steel hull is based on the same lines as Carinthia VII , with a high forebody and reverse sheer sweeping down towards the stern, but Pelorus features an additional line that curves down towards the bow inspired by the 'armour belt' on the HMS Belfast. Pelorus  carries seven tenders including an 11.2-metre  limo and an 8.5-metre sports tender, both by Vikal, a 10-metre X-tender rib, two Pascoe ribs including a SOLAS rib, a nine-metre Hinckley and a Zodiac.

Length: 90.6m

The 90.6 metre superyacht Dubawi made waves when she joined the sales market for the first time ever in May after being listed with Worth Avenue Yachts . Initially delivered as a cruise ship, the yacht underwent a multi-million dollar refit with Platinum Yachts in 2009. The yacht has an internal volume comparable to a yacht of 100 metres or more thanks to her cruising heritage. One of her most impressive amenities is the cavernous lower deck nightclub, which features a dance floor that lights up and a state-of-the-art sound system. Meanwhile, the owner's apartment occupies an entire deck of its own.

Dubawi is asking $28,000,000 with Worth Avenue Yachts .

Length: 90m

Phoenix II was completed by Lürssen in 2010 with British studio Winch Design behind her striking exterior and dazzling interior concept. She features soaring lines, a poised silhouette and a 5.7 metre phoenix figurehead that rises up from the bow. Inside, royal reds, black lacquers and gold accents pay homage to the Art Deco movement. A favourite spot among guests is the formal dining room which is overlooked by a six-piece jazz band in custom-made gold bas-relief murals. Other highlights include a Steinway piano, cinema room, three pools and a sommelier room. 

Phoenix II is asking €129,000,000 (VAT paid) with Burgess .

Length: 85.6m

B2 was one of the largest vessels at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show sitting along the breakwater next to Project X and Ahpo in Port Hercule. She was delivered in 2009 and remains the second-largest launch by the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard. A recent four-million-euro refit saw her hull extended by seven metres allowing for a vast beach club that opens on three sides and a glass-bottom swimming pool that sits laterally across the main deck.  Accommodation is for 22 guests with an elevator serving each level right up to the sun deck.

B2 is asking €88,000,000 with Moravia Yachting .

Length: 82m

The 3,179GT Sarafsa is one of the largest boats to be built in the UK. Used only privately, she was revealed to the world for the first time this year as she joined the market. Wellness is at her core with a hammam, gym, spa pool and jacuzzi beneath a retractable roof. Other features include an 11-seat cinema, a touch-and-go helipad and storage for two large tenders.

Sarafsa is asking €65,000,000 with Burgess .

Length: 85m

Lürssen's 85 metre Aurora was one of the most expensive new listings to join the market in 2022. While she was delivered in 2017, her exterior design plays with retro themes such as circular portholes and arched windows. In a similar fashion, her interior takes inspiration from the Art Deco movement. Highlights include an observation lounge on the top deck, and fully-equipped gym with sliding glass doors that open onto the aft deck, and a Jacuzzi with a J-shaped sit-up bar nearby.

Aurora is asking €130,000,000 with Burgess .

Length : 73.1m

The second largest yacht built in North America since the Great Depression, Laurel was originally delivered in 2006 as the flagship of US yard Delta Marine. Her exterior design was penned by Donald Starkey , and is made instantly recognisable due to the hull’s royal blue colouring. The yacht’s interiors, also by Starkey, offers accommodation for 12 guests in seven cabins, including a convertible cabin that doubles as a sauna. Laurel is known for her professional dive facilities, which has made her especially popular among charter guests, with other amenities such as a jacuzzi, gym and a library that converts into a private cinema perfect for movie nights.

Laurel is asking $69,500,000 with IYC .

Length: 72m

Solo was delivered in 2018 as the flagship of the Tankoa fleet and is one of two S701 models ( Suerte was the first in the series). Her exterior and interior are the work of an all-Italian design team with Francesco Paszkowski Design and Margherita Casprini creating a modern yacht with a masculine edge. The beach club serves as one of the yacht’s key design features with natural light streaming in from a glass bottom pool above. The space is completed by a hammam room decorated with Tuscan calacatta marble, as well as a sauna that notably houses wood from a medieval castle in Finland.

Solo is asking €66,000,000 with Edmiston .

Length: 67.5m

Icon was delivered by her namesake shipyard in 2010 and joins the market for the second time in her history. She underwent an extensive refit in 2014 that extended the yacht’s overall length by five metres, creating space for a raised infinity pool with a glass bottom that filters a dappled blue light through the renovated beach club below. Icon was designed by RWD and is a true explorer with an impressive 6,000 nautical mile range, making her suited to an owner looking to cruise far and wide. On board, Studio Linse offers a “noble simplicity” with the use of neutral colours, pale woods and elegant onyx and marbles, creating a bright and contemporary space for relaxed ocean living.

Icon is asking €45,000,000 (VAT paid) with Fraser .

Considered one of the most sought-after yachting countries in the Mediterranean , Greece certainly has no shortage of luxury islands where you can park your yacht, explore the pristine waters, and soak up some sunshine.

A striking midcentury time capsule is up for grabs in pasadena at $1.6 million, the southernmost house in the continental u.s. just hit the market for $18.5 million.

Elounda Hills is a new eco-friendly luxury resort and the first  branded residential  offering on the island. Located on Crete’s northeast coast, the 138-acre resort will soon welcome a  1 Hotels  facility with 123 rooms, along with 257 branded residences managed by 1 Hotels. There will be an additional 14-key boutique hotel, two beach clubs, a watersports center, kids and teen clubs, a retail piazza, more than a dozen restaurants and bars, and a marina operated by the globally renowned Camper and Nicholsons.

The crown jewel of the Mirabello Villas is certainly this $5.5 million (or €5.1 million) home. The largest of the 22  Mirabello Villas  on offer, this under-construction property spans 5,264 square feet and will have four bedrooms and five bathrooms once complete. Though there is a five-bedroom option, this specific four-bedroom villa is the most expensive of the Mirabello Villas.

The residence has floor-to-ceiling windows that capture Crete’s year-round sunshine, as well as contemporary furnishings, clean lines, and high ceilings. In addition to the spacious bedrooms, sumptuous living spaces, and modern kitchen, there’s an additional 2,529-square-foot private terrace with dramatic stone arches, a private infinity swimming pool, a landscaped garden, and private parking with an EV charger. 

One of the biggest draws for buyers is the opportunity to park your yacht in the cutting-edge marina. Accommodating both resident and visitor yachts from six meters to 90 meters (or 20 feet to 295 feet), the marina will have 50 berths, including five berths for superyachts. According to Elounda Hills, several buyers have already purchased a permanent berth upon the purchase of a residence. From this specific villa, you’ll have views over the marina, so your yacht is never far out of sight.

Health and wellbeing are also a focus for the entire development, and residents are encouraged to consider their carbon footprint. Other residential perks include in-home saging ceremonies to cleanse the home prior to arrival, private chefs and juicing specialists on call, and cuisine from local suppliers. Elounda Hills is expected to open in 2026.

Near-complete Stegosaurus fossil sells for record $44 million at auction

A 150-million-year-old, nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton sold for a record $44.6 million at auction Wednesday.

Sotheby’s, which handled the sale in New York, described the fossil as the “most complete” and “best preserved” Stegosaurus specimen of its size ever discovered. The huge skeleton, measuring 11 feet tall and 20 feet long, was nicknamed “Apex.”

The dinosaur remains were estimated to fetch up to $6 million , but the sale far exceeded those expectations. It set a world record price for a fossil at auction after a bidding war that lasted more than 15 minutes, according to Anna Tisi, a representative for Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s did not publicly disclose the buyer’s identity, but The W all Street Journal later reported that it was billionaire Kenneth Griffin, the CEO of the hedge fund Citadel.

The Apex skeleton was unearthed in 2022 by Jason Cooper, a commercial paleontologist, on his private land near the town of Dinosaur in Moffat County, Colorado, according to Sotheby’s. The bones were in the Morrison Formation, an expanse of sedimentary rock centered in Colorado and Wyoming that also extends into parts of 11 other states.

The fossil was found without any other specimens nearby and with no signs of injuries, the auction house said, adding that evidence of arthritis suggests the Stegosaurus may have survived to an advanced age.

“‘Apex’ marks an incredibly important milestone, as simply one of the best fossils of its kind ever unearthed,” Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s global head of science and popular culture, said in a statement before the sale. “Stegosaurus is one of the most universally recognizable dinosaur species, whose unmistakable silhouette has been a source of fascination and wonder for generations.”

The Stegosaurus is a four-legged, armored dinosaur best known for the distinct line of kite-shaped plates on its back.

The spiky-tailed dinosaurs lived during the late Jurassic period, roughly 155 million years ago to 145 million years ago.

A similarly near-complete Stegosaurus fossil, known as “Sophie,” belongs to the Natural History Museum in London. The Apex skeleton, however, is more than 30% larger, according to Sotheby’s.

Previously, the record for the most money paid for a fossil at auction was set in 2020, when a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton named “Stan” sold for $31.8 million.

The first dinosaur sold at auction was a now-famous specimen known as “ Sue the T. rex ,” which was auctioned in 1997. The Field Museum in Chicago, where it is displayed, bought it for $8.4 million.

'You missed': Trump shooting T-shirts other merch for sale after assassination attempt

A wave of t-shirts and other merchandise have emerged commodifying the attempted assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump over the weekend.

Hundreds of merchandise display the photo of a bloody faced Trump raising his fists after being struck in his right ear at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks , 20, used a AR-15 style in the shooting that left one rally attendee dead and two others critically wounded before Secret Service agents killed him.

Through various products, vendors are capitalizing off the photo of the first assassination attempt against a former or current U.S. president since the 1981 shooting that injured Ronald Reagan outside a Washington, D.C., hotel. 

While some online vendors are profiting off the historical incident, right-wing enthusiasts are using the historical incident for profit or to campaign for Trump's reelection bid.

Products range from shirts, mugs to trading cards

The merchandise tends to carry a consistent thread that paints Trump, who said the shooting pierced the upper part of his right ear, as a hero who took a bullet for his country.

Political commentator Candance Owens promoted a T-shirt on X available for $30 on her website. The shirt displays the photo with patriotic background and text that reads "For God and Country."

"Just threw out all my son’s Superman and Batman memorabilia. Replacing it with bloodied Trump photos and figurines. Don’t @ me," Owens wrote.

There are more than 100 listings of merchandise with the photo ranging from sweatshirts, mugs, car stickers to even trading cards .

Among the popular slogans are "Trump 2024," "That's My President," and even "You Missed."

Former Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka is also selling shirts for $29.99 with text that says "The President of America" while merchandise website Teleteeshirt sells tees that read "Legends Never Die."

Who captured the photo?

The iconic image of Trump was taken by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci.

The photo shows the presumptive Republican nominee with blood streaks on his face as he raises his fist in the air before a barrier of Secret Service agents mounted over him.

When James Brady, a presidential aide, was shot during the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981, the moment sparked a national movement to confront gun violence.

In the 48 hours since former President Donald J. Trump was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania and a supporter in the crowd was killed, Democrats have spoken out about the plague of political violence in the United States and the need for civility and respect in American politics. But notably missing has been any concerted outcry from elected officials to implement tougher gun laws.

“We cannot — must not — go down this road in America,” President Biden said in an Oval Office address on Sunday in which he focused on a unifying message to the country, steering clear of any mention of the intractable issue of guns. “Violence has never been the answer.”

Many Democratic lawmakers, who are normally quick to respond to such tragedies by calling for stricter gun safety measures, were notably quiet on the topic. Gun safety activists said the muted reaction was disappointing.

“It’s deeply concerning that our leaders aren’t responding to this horrific act of political violence with urgent calls for prevention,” said T. Christian Heyne, the vice president for policy at the Brady: United Against Gun Violence organization.

He added: “This assassination attempt was enabled by easy access to a military-style rifle, used precisely as it was designed. Today’s muted response reflects a dangerous normalization of political violence and gun threats.”

An AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle — one of the most ubiquitous weapons in the United States and one commonly used by mass shooters — was recovered by law enforcement at the scene of the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump at his rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday. Little was known about the gunman, leading to some uncertainty about which gun safety issues were directly implicated.

Still, the lack of such details has seldom stopped members of Congress from responding to gun violence with renewed calls for tougher firearm safety measures. Some speculated that the difference now was that at a time of national trauma, when elected officials are trying to focus on what unites the country, calling for policies that the overwhelming majority of Republicans vehemently oppose could be seen as divisive and counterproductive.

A few of the strongest proponents of stricter gun safety policies did not shy away from the issue following the attempt on Mr. Trump’s life.

“Our nation simply does not have to hand assassins and mass murders the weapons that make the slaughter possible,” Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut and the lead voice on gun safety issues in Congress, wrote on social media. “You don’t have a plan to end mass shootings or political violence if your platform seeks to make it easier for killers to get high powered military weapons.”

Mr. Murphy helped to spearhead a bipartisan gun safety bill enacted in 2022 that aimed to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people ; lawmakers tried but failed to get Republicans to agree to add a ban on the sale and possession of assault weapons for individuals under the age of 21. The National Rifle Association lobbied hard against that provision.

In a statement, Everytown for Gun Safety, the leading gun control counterweight to the N.R.A., wrote: “No one is immune from experiencing gun violence. When guns are everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked — no one is safe.”

Some Democrats privately said that even an assassination attempt on the leader of the Republican Party was likely to only further cement the longtime congressional gridlock on guns . They compared it to the Republican reaction to the 2017 shooting of Representative Steve Scalise, Republican of Louisiana, who was gravely wounded when a gunman opened fire on a congressional softball practice in Virginia.

After that shooting, Republicans doubled down on the need to loosen gun laws , introducing legislation to allow members to carry a concealed weapon anywhere except in the Capitol and in the presence of the president or the vice president.

BlackRock pulls commercial that included Trump rally shooter

Investment giant BlackRock is pulling an ad that included Thomas Crooks, the gunman who shot at Donald Trump, injuring the former president and killing an attendee at a rally near Pittsburgh on Saturday.

“In 2022, we ran an ad featuring a teacher from Bethel Park High School, in which several unpaid students briefly appeared in the background, including Thomas Matthew Crooks,” a spokesperson for the company said Sunday. “We will make all video footage available to the appropriate authorities, and we have removed the video from circulation out of respect for the victims.”

The 30-second video focused on a teacher at the high school, with Crooks sitting in class. The video went viral on X and other social media platforms Sunday.

BlackRock said the assassination attempt on former President Trump was “abhorrent” and is “thankful” that he wasn’t seriously injured.

“As our leadership team communicated to colleagues last night, BlackRock strongly condemns political violence of any kind and will do our part to promote civility and unity in the country,” the company said.

BlackRock is a major investor in gun companies, including Sturm Ruger and American Outdoor Brand, the owner of Smith & Wesson.

In quarterly earnings reported Monday, the world’s largest money manager said its assets under management had swollen to a record $10.6 trillion.
