Our course has been carefully crafted to give each aspiring crew member the best tuition and the result is a certificate that grants students access into the superyacht industry. .

The Stewardess Training Course is the perfect entry-level course into the world of Superyachts. Successful completion of this course will allow you to work as a Stewardess or Steward on Superyachts of any size anywhere in the world.

Cost of STCW Basic Safety Training Courses

So what will the stcw basic safety training course cost you.

The full five-day STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) modular course , consisting of the four independent modules, costs approximately US$900–$1,000 if taken in the United States. The cost of STCW Basic Training courses can range anywhere from US$900–$1,880 if taken in Europe or Australia.

These figures will also vary depending on what school you attend. Most institutions offer each separate STCW module à la carte, so you can take them one at a time if you’d like, rather than the five (or in some cases six) straight days in a row.

If the Cost of STCW Basic Safety Training Concerns You

If you have budgetary constraints, you can always fit your STCW BST modules between day working gigs (essentially this is day-to-day, freelance work that you can do to earn income while you search for a full-time position) in order to cover your expenses while you earn your certificate of compliance. Note: You do not necessarily need your STCW certificate to day work, as day work positions usually do not entail the vessel going out to sea.

On the other hand, while breaking the STCW training up over the course of several weeks may be less of a burden on your wallet, also remember that the sooner you get this training out of the way, the closer you are to earning a consistent salary. It may be wiser just to take the hit up front, and then let your first month’s salary on a luxury yacht (with no expenses) earn that money right back. The exception to this advice is if you are interested in simply signing up for one module to test out this industry and see what it’s about before committing to finding a job within it. In that case, just sign up and pay for one module out of the gates.

INSIDER TIP: Rather than an STCW BST module, the better option for testing things out would be an introduction to yachting course offered at one of the training schools. Maritime Professional Training in Fort Lauderdale, for example, offers an Introduction to Yachting #807 Yacht Etiquette & Service Arts class, which is a one-day course covering yacht roles and definitions, etiquette and personal graces, individual and interpersonal relationships, and more. International Crew Training (now known as Bluewater Yachting USA since September 2016) and many of the crew-training schools in Australia and Antibes, France also offer similar introduction courses that provide a wonderful foundation for entering yachting.

If finances have you concerned, be sure to check out the various training schools’ websites I list on my site. They will all run price specials at some point during the year. When calling to enroll, be sure to ask about any current or upcoming specials that you might qualify for. A few even have packages that can include interior-crew training at a discounted rate.

Also with regard to budgeting for your STCW BST training, be aware that beyond the basic enrollment tuition, parts of the training may take place off-premises from the school itself, and quite often, you are left to find your own transportation. Examples of this are when you attend the practical portions of sea survival and fire training. You can hire a taxi or take a bus, but I suggest carpooling. My advice is to make friends on your first day of class (and preferably, friends with cars).

As a final note on the subject of training costs, because I am sure you may hear talk of this once you’ve established yourself in a hiring port: There are cases where entry-level job candidates avoid having to pay for their STCW BST training because they find a yacht that wants to hire them badly enough that the captain or owner agree to pay their course tuition for them. Do not expect this to happen. This was a much more common occurrence years ago when the industry first started cracking down on requiring STCW for all charter-yacht crew. Nowadays, though, captains expect that if you are truly serious about finding a job in this industry, you will undertake the STCW training on your own, before you even begin interviewing for jobs.

The STCW Basic Safety Training courses will prepare you to begin your yachting career , but they have to be retaken every five years. Under some situations, showing that you have at least a year of service on a vessel of more than 200 gross tons will suffice to take the place of the basic safety training renewal for your STCW certification. If you stay in this industry longer than five years though, you will likely have to take all four modules again. If you are employed on a vessel at that point, it might be a situation where a yacht is likely to take on the cost. Otherwise, look at the cost of taking the STCW BST courses as an investment.

The British Butler Institute

is recognised as the leader in butler and hospitality training worldwide. Represented in over 14 countries, the Institute is a world leader in luxury front-of-house training with clients that span the globe including royal superyachts and royal palaces. You will be introduced to the VVIP world and receive expert hands-on training in the “5 Golden Pillars of Service Excellence”. This five-day module trains you in concierge excellence and includes setting a formal and informal table, silver service, seating a guest, cabin check lists, in cabin dining service, cabin orientation , meet, greet and departures, deportment and practical posture.

Superyacht Stewardess & Steward Training Course requirements

Interior crew are typically required to work long hours and must be physically fit and able. You must be energetic and enthusiastic with an ability to work to a high standard in all tasks. Some previous experience in hospitality is a great bonus, but not at all necessary to join the training. Also if you have aligned experience in beauty, food and beverages, catering, wine and art appreciation, massage, sports and training, these extra skills will also be useful in your career progression.

You must have an ENG1 seafarer medical fitness certificate to work at sea ( Find out more about the ENG1 Medical Certificate ).  Whilst it’s not essential to hold your ENG1 to complete your training with UKSA, it is required to hold this to secure work in the industry. For this reason, we recommend all students gain their ENG1 before they attend training.

TRAINING FOR CREW IN AUSTRALIA

All crew members regardless of their role onboard are required to complete the STCW95+10 training modules. It must also be refreshed every 5 years. The 1995 STCW Convention, amended by the Manila Amendments 2010 establishes a baseline standard for the training and education of seafarers throughout the world.  STCW 95+10 stipulates the required competencies associated with different tasks, the knowledge and understanding required to perform them, methods for demonstrating competence and criteria for evaluating it.

As you now know STCW95+10 certificates expire after 5 years so you will need to complete Refresher Training before it can be renewed. STCW95+10 Refresher Basic Safety training is now mandatory.  This is a 2-day course of practical training for Personal Survival Techniques and Basic Fire Fighting.

So you'd like to work on Superyachts? Great, it's an amazing job where you get to see so much!  Becoming a Deckhand is your entry to working on Superyachts. This 6-day Superyacht Deckhand Training Course is an internationally recognised professional qualification. Your certificate will be accredited by International Yacht Training (IYT) Worldwide, who has recognition with 25 governments across the globe. This course has dual certification, which means that you will also qualify to receive an Australian Certificate I in Maritime Operations to apply for a General Purpose Hand (GPH) NC.

So you'd like to work on a Superyacht? Great, it's a fabulous career and you will need the right training for a good start and to be competitive for the best jobs!  The Superyacht Stewardess courses we offer are an entry level into the world of working on superyachts. Successful completion of this course will recommend you to work as interior crew yacht steward/ess on superyachts of any size anywhere in the world. We recommend training in our 10-day Advanced Professional Superyacht Hospitality Steward/ess course if you are new to the Superyacht Industry and wish to expand your knowledge and skills base required for superyacht hospitality.

Superyacht Crew International has developed this course with the aim of addressing the obvious need for senior crew to be well-armed with the necessary skills that will assist them to progress their careers by developing more effective leadership ability through improved ‘people skills’.  This enables them to lead their team and to communicate effectively with other crew, owners and guests.  The catchphrase ‘people skills’ is often bandied around and mostly rather misunderstood!

So you are joining a build and want to know exactly what's going on?  Great, you'll be able to Step Up effectively with some highly useful information.  All crew aim to part of a superyacht new build at some point in their career. How much is a Yacht Stewardess Salary ?

A standard Junior Stewardess Salary is starting from 2500€/month. You will also have at least 38 days paid leave per year in your contract. 

Many Yachts have bonuses and tips. When earning tips you can earn €20 000-€30 000/season only in tips. 

How do I find stewardess day work online ?

We will help you with the day work process together with the other crew and have crew guides for securing daywork. 

The best places for daywork are Antibes, Palma and Florida. But depending on the season we will help you with the best option.

When you daywork you earn 100€-150€/day

Can I use a payment plan for Yacht Stewardess Training ?

Yes you can split in 2 monthly Payments and when you pay the first payment of 295£ you get full access to all the training , certification , Yacht CV and training programme.

How does the Yacht Stewardess training online work ?

1. When you book you get full life-time access to  Certificates and YCA Superyacht Stewardess Training Online.

2. Complete all the training at your own pace  24/7 and get your certificates.

3. We start to write your CV and start the job search.

5. Add STCW in person 10  days training and  crew accommodation in Split, Croatia.  Get your  ENG1 + your new CV photo and final CV if necessary.

Yacht steward/ stewardess training, it’s not just a job - it’s a lifestyle.

Our training will teach you all you need to know to get you started in the yachting industry: from terminology and etiquette to service, laundry, bed-making, bartending or administration. You will get full support from our experienced trainers that will help you deal with the pressures of working in a multifaceted environment and the quantity and quality of the skills required to perform your role on board. The main responsibility of a yacht steward/ess is to maintain a proper yacht interior and provide the highest standard of care for the owners and guests.

 Other of his/her duties may include cabin preparation – detailing to a very high standard, laundry, setting tables, arranging flowers, and cleaning all areas of the interior of the yacht. Also, you will serve food and drinks, prepare beach parties, pack, and unpack luggage and be on call for anything that the guests want anytime day or night.

The stewards/ess work under the direct coordination of the Chief Steward/ess.
