ANDIAMO Yacht – 59.3m Superyacht

The ANDIAMO yacht is a stunning yacht built by Benetti, the renowned Italian shipbuilder. She features interior design from Studio Massari and exterior design from Stefano Natucci.

Benetti penned the naval architecture and delivered the stunning yacht to her original owners in 2009.

The interior of the ANDIAMO yacht was designed by Studio Massari, a design company based in Fano, Italy.

She accommodates 12 guests in one master suite, one VIP suite, three doubles, and two twin rooms, which all have entertainment centers and en suite bathrooms.

The master suite has a particularly impressive feature: an observation lounge that offers 270-degree views of the ocean. There are accommodations for 15 crew members on board, ensuring a luxury experience for all guests onboard.

The vessel offers opulence and interior elements with crystal, gold, and pearl finishes, including a gold-plated elevator. Elegant elements like burl woods, gray lacquers, fine marbles, and neutral finishings.

The sundeck features a gym and a jacuzzi. A vast beach club provides the perfect indoor-outdoor area with a sauna. There are multiple alfresco dining and lounging options throughout the impressive entertainment areas of the yacht.

The salon and dining areas are open plan, with a formal dinging forward and lounge aft. Plenty of natural light filters in through elongated windows in the salon with a retractable sunroof.

The aft deck has a circular sun bed which converts into an alfresco dining table. The BBQ station on board is perfect for entertaining. The full-beam extended platform offers a perfect spot for diving into the water with a freshwater shower.

A swimming pool is an additional water area that features a hydro massage. There are plenty of water toys for guests, such as WaveRunners, sea bobs, wakeboards, and scuba equipment. There is also a 6m Pascoe Tender to transfer guests from ship to shore.

Stefano Natucci designed the exterior design of the ANDIAMO yacht. Benetti penned the naval architecture, and she was delivered from their Italian shipyard in 2009. It has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.

The full displacement hull offers a more stable experience for guests while at anchor. She was fully refitted in 2020, which included an interior update from Patrick Knowles and an updated exterior, including a full repaint with a fresh dark blue hull.

Specifications

The ANDIAMO yacht is a 59.3m superyacht with a 10.4m beam and a 3.2m draft. She has a displacement of 996 gross tons.

The yacht has a cruising speed of 15 knots and a range of up 6142 nautical miles. The vessel reaches top speed of 16 knots. She is MCA compliant and built to Lloyd’s classification. 

2009: ANDIAMO is delivered under to the owner.

2014: ANDIAMO undergoes renovations, including full paintwork by Pinmar in Barcelona.

2017: ANDIAMO is sold and renamed LADY LUCK.

2021: ANDIAMO is sold and renamed.

2019 M/Y Andiamo yacht fire investigation summary

Multiple failings highlighted….

The 37m motor yacht Andiamo was completely lost to fire on 18th December 2019. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its findings. The full report can be read here  with a SuperyachtNews summary to follow. 

The NTSB investigation presents some highly relevant findings for the superyacht industry and safety standards on privately owned superyachts.  At 19:21 local time, the fire started, and the vessel was on the seafloor a little over two hours later. The vessel was successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The sequence of events preceding its sinking makes for stark reading. 

Andiamo was stern to the dock in Island Gardens marina and undertook day trips with guests in the lead-up. Onboard was the captain, first officer, deckhand, chief stewardess, second stewardess and chef. The chief engineer was on personal leave. As they were preparing for the arrival of a guest, it was noted that the lights were not working in the lower/accommodation deck and the main salon. 

The issue was reported, and the captain began troubleshooting the electrical systems; however, the issue was not resolved without the chief engineer on board. The chief stewardess lit candles in the master cabin to continue preparing, which were placed onto a wooden dresser beneath open curtains. 

Around 19:20, the interior team noticed a burning smell in the main solon followed by a plume of black smoke, and they shouted fire to the bridge to notify the captain, who was still attempting to fix the lighting issue. After determining that he could not locate the fire, he instructed the chief stew to have everyone evacuate the vessel. No fire alarm was sounding, nor was the decision made to activate the general alarm. At 19:23, the second stewardess placed a call to emergency services.

The vessel was equipped with integrated fire detection and alarm system, with smoke and thermal detectors throughout the vessel spaces. The guest lobby was fitted with a manual fire alarm, and there were portable fire extinguishers throughout. Again, the crew reported that no alarm was sounding. The chief officer and deckhand returned from another vessel and reported what they described as a 'fireball' on the aft deck. 

The captain and chef attempted to connect a fire hose and start the fire pump to fight the fire by approaching the galley door from the starboard side; however, they decided that the fire was too far gone at that stage. At 19:24, the crew and only guest were on the dock and alerted neighbouring vessels, and assuming that the fire was electrical in nature, shut down the shore power. The Miami Fire Department arrived at 19:30 and began to fight the fire. With assistance from neighbouring vessels, the fire was deemed under control within two hours, but the volume of water now onboard continued to list the vessel, and it capsized onto its starboard side. 

Andiamo was initially classed by the American Beuro of Shipping (ABS) in August 2006. However, this was suspended in June 2019 due to an overdue survey. The vessel underwent a yard period from June to October 2019 to bring it back into class compliance. The ABS documented that the fire alarm and detection system was in an “inoperable state”. The remote fire safety shutdown system, the louvres and ventilation fans in the engine room could not be remotely shut down. 

As reported, the ABS returned to the vessel on several occasions. However, the smoke and heat sensors had not been repaired to meet an operational test, and multiple smoke detectors across the vessel failed to provide audible or visual alarms. ABS returned the day before the fire, but the repaired still had not been made. 

The owner of Andiamo deferred all maintenance decisions to the crew. While the crew provided investigators with several invoices, there was no record of work on the fire detection and alarm system. The investigation also highlights that no contact had been made with the manufacturer of the fire detection system or specialists technicians in the months after the ABS recommendations leading up to the fire.

As a result of the fire, the Marshall Islands issued a yacht safety advisory on April 20, 2020, based on its investigations of four registered yacht fires during the previous year. The advisory highlighted three major areas of concern: preventing fires, ensuring fire-detection and extinguishing systems are fully functional, and ensuring yacht crews are prepared to respond to a fire. Identified as a fire risk posed by human activity was: “leaving open flames such candles unattended.”

The fire on Andiamo highlights how vital the time given by early smoke and heat detection can be. Without a sprinkler system, the vessel relied on early detection and action from the crew. Without a functioning alarm, or the ability to close louvres, dampeners and fire doors externally to starve the fire, the fight was effectively over by the time they detected the smoke.

Captain Josh Turner: Captain Josh grew up around the Seattle area of the Pacific Northwest. The rivers he learned to salmon fish on were seasonal but plentiful and stocked full of silver salmon. Since then his experience has taken him all over the country and world. One of his first experiences as a Captain was running a boat out of Lahaina, Maui. Windjammer cruises kept his days full of Humpback whales and beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. From here he went across the globe to Alaska and the Seward area. Where he enjoyed the serene beauty of the same whales breeching, Bald Eagles and running a sport fishing boat. During this part of his life Josh was a successful captain and landed lots of Pacific Salmon, Pacific Halibut, Lingcod and sea bass. From Alaska to Newport Beach California, where Captain Josh worked with Sunseekers Yachts for eight years in and out of the Newport area. But Josh needed warmer water and more fun in the sun, so off to Virgin Islands He was the captain for excursion boats from St Thomas to Virgin Gorda. There were plenty of opportunities here for Josh to expand his fishing for Ahi and sail fish. From Maui to Alaska to Virgin Islands to Florida and The Bahamas. Captain Josh found his place in the world. Great cruising in the Bahamas and places to explore. The Bahamas are a place to get in the heat of all the action, to the quiet Otter Islands and Bahamian vibe and culture. Florida and the Florida Keys, what more can you say, all the great things in one spot. Captain Josh is a certified SCUBA diver, free diver fisherman and loves to go Lobstering when he can. He Loves the water and finds happiness introducing people to his favorite things! Mate John McCabe: John started in the marine industry back in 1992 working dinner cruises in Seward, Alaska as a deck hand. After moving to Maui, Hawaii in 1994, he continued his marine experience operating 5-star sunset dinner cruises aboard a 100 foot 3-masted schooner. A move to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1997 shifted his marine education to the competitive world of Great Lakes regattas and sailboat racing, while owning and operating a full-service restaurant and brewery near the Marina. After 17 years of Great Lakes sailing experience, John moved to Southeast Florida in 2014 and continues to enjoy catering to guests on board private Miami Yacht charters and Fort Lauderdale fishing expeditions on M/V Andiamo. John is currently is working towards his USCG Captain’s license to further his career in the Marine industry Chenaé van Niekerk: Chenaé began her culinary career at an early age. She discovered her passion and started working for an Advanced Food and Wine Degree, she worked in the kitchens of top‐rated restaurants and catering companies. Billionaire fights to dock his boat on water behind his house. His 164-foot boat, that is.

The love of the water, and a mega-yacht to enjoy it, is putting one resident at odds with village of north palm beach leaders..

For some people, the ultimate Florida lifestyle is a waterfront house , a private dock and a boat parked next to it. But what if that boat is a mega-yacht , and the mega-yacht stretches 164 feet?

That's the conundrum facing the Village of North Palm Beach.

This tiny community in northern Palm Beach County, with only 13,000 full-time residents, has an identity so tied to the water that a ship's steering wheel is the village's emblem.

But it's that love of the water that is putting one resident at odds with village leaders.

For the past several years, homeowner Michael Bozutto has been battling the village for the right to park his 164-foot Westport, dubbed Honey, behind a home he owns at 932 Shore Drive.

The house, built in 1961, is a one-story, ranch-style property with three bedrooms on a half-acre lot. Bozzuto paid $840,247 for the house in 2014, according to Palm Beach County property records.

Lawsuit rooted in dispute over where to dock mega-yacht

What makes this plain house special is its location. It's on a rare corner bordered on the north and east by navigable waters that provide access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet. The east-facing dock is large enough to accommodate Bozzuto's motor yacht.

Since Bozutto bought Honey for an undisclosed sum a decade ago, he mostly has parked it at the Old Port Cove Marina, near Tiger Woods' 155-foot showy mega-yacht, ironically dubbed Privacy.

More recently, Bozzuto has wanted to park Honey alongside his Shore Drive house, one of four houses he owns in the village. While Bozzuto keeps some personal property at the Shore Drive house, he lives at a house he owns at Harbour Isles Court.

Village officials warned Bozzuto he can't park Honey at 932 Shore Drive because boats can only be parked on docks behind houses that are occupied by the homeowner.

But village rules do not define the word "occupied." For instance, the rules do not state that occupied means the house is a residence where the owner lives. Village rules also contain no restrictions on the size of boats that can be kept at private docks.

After years of pushing back against what he believes are fuzzy rules, Bozzuto in March filed a lawsuit against the village.

He alleged the municipality is illegally depriving him of his property rights because nothing in the village code prevents him from mooring Honey at his house. He is asking a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge to rule that he has a constitutional right to dock Honey there.

Gregory Coleman, Bozzuto's West Palm Beach attorney, said the village has plenty of waterfront homes with yachts parked behind them. But Coleman said the village is illegally blocking Bozzuto from docking Honey at his house because the village is bending to pressure from a handful of neighbors who think the boat is too big.

The selective enforcement is wrong, said Coleman, a former president of the Florida Bar.

"He's a very under-the-radar guy who doesn't cause anybody any problems," Coleman said of Bozzuto. "He pays his property taxes, and he wants to be left alone by the village of North Palm Beach. Unfortunately, they are singling Mike out."

Neither Leonard Rubin, the village's longtime attorney, nor Village Manager Chuck Huff responded to requests for comment.

Eric Stettin, a Fort Lauderdale-based attorney who is representing the village in the Bozzuto lawsuit, said he could not comment on pending litigation.

What good is a man's castle if he can't have a boat in his moat?

Coleman's lawsuit describes the conflict as a battle over property rights, but real estate and yachting experts say it's also a sign of the times.

As wealthy new residents pour into the county wanting all the perks of the Sunshine State, they want a boat to go along with their waterfront homes and golf club memberships. Some longtime residents fear Palm Beach County is turning into a playground for billionaires, to the detriment of everyday people who also want to live in sunshine and peace.

This conflict between Old Florida and new money is an ever-present tension, but even seasoned yacht brokers say they've never seen interest in luxury yachts quite as strong as it is now.

"What we've seen in the marketplace right after COVID in the yachting industry, and especially the superyacht segment, is the most incredible growth ever seen in the history of yachting to date," said Shannon McCoy, a luxury yacht advisor and broker with Worth Avenue Yachts in Palm Beach.

"A lot of people are moving here with serious money," added Pascal Savoy, U.S. managing director of Camper & Nicholsons International yacht brokers in Fort Lauderdale.

While in the past Palm Beach County was not considered lively enough for some buyers, Savoy said the county's growing sophistication is putting it on the map in a way never seen before.

"It's a mini-Monaco for us," Savoy said.

Prices for mega-yachts can range from $18 million to $60 million, or many times that, for the largest and most decked-out mega-yachts, Savoy said.

While some yachts can be glitzy, a 164-foot Westport is considered a more low-profile boat, Savoy added.

Bozzuto's interests: Houses, boats and philanthropy

Bozzuto is no newcomer to North Palm Beach. He's been a resident of the village for 20 years.

He is the billionaire owner of a family-owned supermarket wholesaler in Connecticut, and an investor and philanthropist who likes to collect houses and yachts, Coleman said.

In addition to the four North Palm Beach houses and several yachts he owns, Bozzuto in February paid a whopping $31.1 million for a house in the Town of Palm Beach Shores. The house, which has two docks, sits just north of the Palm Beach/Lake Worth Inlet.

Coleman said there is plenty of room for other boaters to navigate the waterway when Honey is parked at the Shore Drive house in North Palm Beach. And while other people may not have as large a yacht, there are other sizeable yachts parked on docks behind other North Palm Beach homes, too, he added.

At a 2017 village council meeting, then-Mayor Darryl Aubrey commented on the issue, according to the complaint.

"When I didn't live here full time, I had a boat sitting in my dock, I was gone nine months of the year. I don't see how you can say that someone has to be in a residence year-round, seems to be some interpretation of occupant, there would be an enormous number of violations," Aubrey said.

Another member of the village council asked if the village had a definition now, the complaint said.

Rubin, the village attorney, replied: "No, we don't," according to the lawsuit.

Palm Beach County's waterways run deep, and they are popular

The yacht docking dispute is particularly timely, given the scarcity of dock space for boats of all sizes.

The most convenient place to park a boat is on the water behind a house, brokers say. But not every waterway or channel can accommodate the draft, or depth, of a mega-yacht.

However, the dock behind Bozzuto's Shore Drive house can.

Not only is the Westport not known for its deep hulls, but the waterway also is typical of northern Palm Beach County, which boasts deep water and easy access to the ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet, said Coleman, a lifelong boater.

"In Palm Beach County, they have deeper water, and it allows people to have larger yachts," Savoy agreed.

But not every waterway is deep enough for every boat.

McCoy said she specializes in helping advise potential yacht owners about the county's varied water depths before they buy a house, if they plan to dock their yacht behind it.

If yacht owners don't have a private dock, the other option is a marina. But marina space is hard to find, with many dock berths reserved for months in advance, McCoy said.

Despite the challenges of owning a boat and finding a place to dock it, yacht brokers say demand continues.

They see interest continuing from business executives moving here with their families as they relocate their companies to Palm Beach County. There's also a growing demand for yachts among female buyers, McCoy added.

They also see younger mega-yacht buyers, some even in their early 30s. This is in sharp contrast to the mostly older buyers in the past, Savoy said.

Palm Beach County may not be as go-go as Miami-Dade County when it comes to showy ships, but if interest continues, "it's coming," Savoy said. "You're going to attract bigger yachts."

Put another way: "No one needs a boat, but everyone needs a boat," McCoy said. "It's the ultimate lifestyle."

Jeff Bezos has scooped up a third property on Miami’s elite Indian Creek Island for a staggering $90 million.

The Amazon founder purchased the waterside mansion in the ritzy neighborhood, nicknamed “Billionaire Bunker,” in an off-market transaction, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

The resort-style manor features a plush yard overlooking the twinkling ocean with several manicured gardens, a large driveway perfect for the billionaire’s many luxury cars and a beautiful swimming pool and guesthouse.

Insiders told The Post that Bezos intends to live in the home while completing the demolition of his two other island abodes.

Bezos purchased his new manse for an exorbitantly high price, with records obtained by The Post indicating that it last sold for just $2.5 million in 1998.

The inflated fee signals how desirable the area has become.

But sources in the know claimed Bezos’ move to snap up yet another property on the exclusive 300-acre island with just 41 residential homes could rub some of his neighbors the wrong way.

Elon Musk’s xAI poaches another engineer from Tesla in a clear conflict of interest

Elon Musk’s xAI, an artificial intelligence startup, has poached yet another engineer from Tesla in a clear conflict of interest.

Last year,  Musk launched a new AI startup, xAI , and it has been a controversial endeavor – primarily because he has himself described Tesla as “an AI company”.

A few years prior, Musk had left OpenAI officially over a “conflict of interest with Tesla” over the automaker’s own AI effort.

It’s not clear how starting his own AI startup would be different. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for conflicts of interest to popup.

Earlier this year, we reported on Musk bizarrely asking for  a 25% voting control over Tesla  because of his fear that some entity could take over the company to control its AI projects.

He warned that without this level of control, he would “prefer to build products outside of Tesla”, presumably at the new xAI, which many saw as a clear conflict of interest by publicly admitting that he would focus AI efforts outside of Tesla.

Separately, xAI has also been recruiting from Tesla’s own AI team.

Elon has been done with Tesla since he pumped the stock high enough to get his crooked compensation package. Now that a judge rightfully cancelled that package he is stealing as much from Tesla as he can.

He knows the cult of retail investors will hold the stock price up just long enough to pull the rug and cash out bigly, but he's going to poach as many people as he can before his exit.

The Information reported today that a fourth Tesla engineer has moved from the automaker to Musk’s new startup:

Last month, Tesla machine-learning scientist Ethan Knight became the fourth Tesla engineer to leave the car company for xAI, the startup’s website shows. At Tesla, Knight had overseen the team working on computer vision for Tesla’s self-driving technology, according to a former employee. His departure follows those of engineers who worked at Tesla on supercomputing, Autopilot and artificial intelligence infrastructure and who have joined xAI in the past 12 months.

Tesla’s board has never commented on the conflict of interest situation nor on Musk’s demand to get 25% voting control over Tesla’s shares.

This is such a strange situation for a major company like Tesla to be in. With any other company or CEO, you would think that the board would be all over these conflicts of interest, but not with Tesla and Elon.

Again, it highlights a clear governance problem at the company – something that also led to the rescinding of Elon’s compensation package. All things that are distracting the company from the actual mission. It’s a shame.

British billionaire Joe Lewis may dodge prison time at his sentencing for insider trading

NEW YORK (AP) — British billionaire Joe Lewis, whose family trust owns the Tottenham Hotspur soccer club, is set to be sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to insider trading and conspiracy charges in New York.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan had plenty of stern words to say about the 87-year-old’s crimes in court papers, but they also agree that his age, medical issues and willingness to come to the U.S. to face criminal charges have earned him leniency that might result in no prison time.

U.S. sentencing guidelines call for Lewis, a citizen of the United Kingdom and resident of the Bahamas, to serve 18 months to two years behind bars.

At his January plea, Lewis admitted that he agreed in 2019 to share secrets about publicly traded companies with several individuals. He told Judge Jessica G.L. Clarke that he was “so embarrassed” for his conduct. Prosecutors said afterward that his company, Broad Bay Limited, and Lewis would pay $50 million in financial penalties, the largest financial penalty for insider trading in a decade.

Prosecutors wrote in their presentence submission that Lewis deserved leniency because he is elderly and “battles significant health issues” that would cause a term of imprisonment to be more difficult for him than others.

They cited his acceptance of responsibility that he demonstrated by voluntarily surrendering rather than forcing a drawn-out extradition battle, and said that he’d “otherwise lived a law abiding life.”

The government also noted that Lewis is recognized as one of the 500 richest people in the world with approximately $6.2 billion as of February, including homes in several countries, a $250 million yacht, private planes valued at $90 million and an art collection worth $100 million.

Defense attorneys said in their presentence submission that Lewis “is nearing the end of life in declining health” and that the court’s probation office had recommended no prison time, a period of three years probation and a $5 million fine.

They said Lewis, if he received no prison time, will immediately leave the United States knowing that his conviction will mean he can’t return to see his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who live in the U.S.

From the start, Lewis was no ordinary defendant. After his arrest less than a year ago, he had been free on $300 million bail after putting up a yacht and private plane as collateral.

In court papers, prosecutors said Lewis learned secrets about public companies after making large investments. They said that on at least four occasions, he tipped off his girlfriend, personal pilots, employees and friends, enabling them to profit from the secrets.

“This insider trading was not the result of aberrant, one-time conduct, but rather, a troubling pattern of misconduct over the course of several years,” they wrote.

Prosecutors said it was possible that the insider activity resulted from “hubris, ego, a desire to make a financial gift without parting with his own money, an irrational form of greed, or some other reason.”

But, regardless, “it is clear that Lewis believed he was above the law — that he had achieved a level of wealth and stature that relieved him from having to operate by the same rules that apply to everyday investors,” prosecutors said.

Producer who accused Sean 'Diddy' Combs adds Cuba Gooding Jr. to sexual assault, harassment lawsuit

A music producer who filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs last month has now accused actor Cuba Gooding Jr. of sexually harassing and assaulting him, an amended federal complaint filed Monday night shows.

The amended civil complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan hours after federal officials searched Combs’ homes . Combs is a subject of a federal investigation, and several people have been interviewed by federal officials in Manhattan in relation to allegations involving sex trafficking, assault, illegal narcotics and firearms, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Representatives for Combs, 54, did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment Monday.

The producer, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, filed his original lawsuit against Combs and others in February, alleging that Combs forced him to procure sex workers and pressured him to engage in unwelcomed sex acts with them.

The amended suit alleges that Gooding groped Jones while on Combs’ yacht.

An attorney and representatives for Gooding did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Monday.

Gooding “began touching, groping, and fondling Mr. Jones’ legs, his upper inner thighs near his groin, the small of his back near his buttocks, and his shoulders,” Jones’ the suit states.

Jones “was extremely uncomfortable and proceeded to lean away from Mr. Gooding Jr.,” the lawsuit says. “He rejected his advances and Mr. Gooding Jr. did not stop until Mr. Jones forcibly pushed him away.”

Attorneys for Jones said in the lawsuit that the incident happened on a yacht rented by Combs in the U.S. Virgin Islands in January 2023. It accused Gooding of sexual assault and misconduct.

Gooding has not been charged with any crime.

In a different case, Gooding pleaded guilty in 2022 to a misdemeanor charge that he forcibly kissed a worker at a New York nightclub in 2018.

He completed alcohol and behavior modification counseling, was then allowed to withdraw that plea and then pleaded guilty to a lesser harassment violation, resolving the case with no jail time .

On Monday, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed search warrants at properties belonging to Combs in Los Angeles and Miami, sources told NBC News.

There has been no information connecting Gooding to any of the searches, and it is not clear what the searches entailed.

Combs has been accused of misconduct in civil cases filed by four women. One was quickly settled and three are pending . Combs has denied the allegations in those lawsuits.

“Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth,” he said in a December statement.

Jones said in the lawsuit that he worked on Combs’ latest album, “The Love Album: Off the Grid.” The album was released in September 2023 and was nominated for a Grammy.

The suit alleges , in part, that Motown Records, and others, benefited from his work on the album, but that he was not fully compensated.

Monday’s amended complaint filed by attorneys for Jones contains a declaration by former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam who it appears to show her willing to testify about the contract involving “The Love Album.”

A spokesperson for Universal Music Group, which owns Motown Records, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The lawsuit seeks damages, including punitive damages, but does not specify an amount, seeking amounts to be determined at trial.
