After helping out the St. David crew on  Below Deck  Season 10, Captain Sandy is taking on a totally new project.

The  Below Deck Mediterranean  captain, who, most recently, temporarily took over for Captain Lee Rosbach while he dealt with health issues on  Below Deck   Season 10, revealed that her next career move is starting a charitable organization that is "in the spirit of supporting and empowering women."

"I'm excited to announce Captain Sandy's Charities," she said in an Instagram video in honor of International Women's Day on March 8. "I am steadfast in providing equitable access to successful programs that provide direct services, meaningful opportunities, and lifechanging options, with a particular focus on low-income and at-risk populations."

She added that the organization is centered around "maritime and environmental education and employment opportunities," before further elaborating on the goal of the charity in an Instagram caption.

"I want to inform young people about the advantages of entering the maritime/yachting industry, regardless of completing high school or college," she wrote about the mission of Captain Sandy's Charities.

Captain Sandy isn't the only  Below Deck Med  yachtie who has recently had exciting career news to share. Back in late January, Malia White, who last appeared in a Bosun role on Season 6, confirmed that she had passed an examination to become an Officer of the Watch .

Sandy was one of many Bravolebrities who congratulated Malia on the milestone accomplishment in the comments section. Several weeks later, the Officer of the Watch revealed that she's on great terms with her former captain. In fact, Captain Sandy is one of the main reasons why Malia has continued to pursue a career in the yachting industry.

"I love Captain Sandy. I love her, absolutely," Malia said on an episode of her podcast,  Total Ship Show , about the respect she held for the female captain. I admire her — she’s what made me want to get in the industry, like stick in it."

How Captain Sandy Saved This Season of Below Deck

st david yacht captain sandy

When Captain Lee had to step away from the St. David superyacht on this season of Below Deck , Captain Sandy Yawn ( Below Deck Mediterranean ) took the helm without a second thought. Walking onto a new boat, especially one with an already established crew, is never easy. What did she think of her new reports? She calls Tony a “superhuman,” Rachel “a boss,” and Ross an “excellent bosun” despite his “disappointing” behavior with the women onboard. And then, of course, there were Camille and Alissa. But under Yawn’s reign, she molded the crew into a dream team. As the captain for the majority of the season, Yawn developed genuine bonds and faced turmoil while at sea. By the time Captain Lee returned , Yawn had replaced two stewardesses, held her ground against a neighboring superyacht, and shaped Fraser into a star chief stew. In her final episode of the season, she passed the reins back to Captain Lee and bid a bittersweet farewell to a crew that overcame hardship under her leadership. “When people are humble, and they ask for help, I’m there for them,” Yawn said. “Period.”

What was the biggest challenge of stepping in and taking over another captain’s boat? Anytime, as a captain, you step onto someone else’s crew, it’s never an easy dance. So, you try to rise 30,000 feet and assess your people. Our ultimate goal is to provide that level of service to the client that’s paid a lot of money to be there. It’s also hard for crews to go from different management styles, so I also take that into consideration.

What were your expectations before taking over? How long did you think you were going to be onboard? Now, let’s not forget, I do have a girlfriend that’s the love of my life, and I left the day before Valentine’s Day. That’s a big sacrifice for my relationship. I was told it was only going to be a week, a couple of charters. But Captain Lee wasn’t getting better, so I had to stay longer, to the point where I just said, “I have to leave,” because Leah was having surgery. Even if Captain Lee couldn’t come back, I had to leave.

How long did you stay? Five charters.

Can deckstews ever work out? Or are they destined for failure? So, let me tell you where the deckstew came from. Small boats, right. If you’re on a 60-footer, 70-footer, under 100 feet, that person has a much smaller vessel, and that’s when they go outside and inside. Deckstew means they handle the line, they do interior, they help outside, but their main focus is interior.

On larger vessels, it’s impossible to have that person that goes in and out. Everybody needs a job description. And to try to have a person have two bosses? Try that out, see how it works for you. Doesn’t work. So that’s for small boats, it isn’t for superyachts. You’re either on deck, or you’re on interior. You can’t do both because it tears the person apart. And in this case, when you have two department heads that aren’t communicating about the person that was put in that position, that’s not fair to that person. Remember, we’re all human beings.

You’re no stranger to boatmances — what are your thoughts on Ross and Katie? The crew were really good at keeping that hidden from the captain. What are you gonna do? People hook up. I’m not there to discuss what they do in a bedroom, and those people are in an agreement. I do step in when it starts to interfere with their job.

Can you talk about your relationship with Katie? It was clear she admired you. Did you have any side conversations about being women in boating? Not onboard. After the season, I had a fundraiser and she came and she says, “You inspire me. I want to be a captain like you someday,” I say, “I’ll help you. Just call me.” She’s awesome at her job and … watching Ross, it’s like, maybe Ross needs to get some help. Because man, he is a player. I know they say, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game,” but I’m blown away. I even looked over at Lee, and I go, “Wow, I see why he’s not a captain.” Because during the season, I’m like, “You’ve been a captain before. Why did you stop being a captain?” And after watching his behavior I’m thinking, Hmmm, maybe that’s why . Very disappointing to see how he was with the ladies onboard. Just no respect for them. Or for himself in that matter … but what an excellent bosun.

There’s a line when you’re in a leadership position and as a bosun, you need to stay on the right side of it.  Yes. I don’t know if people think it’s just a frat house. It’s not. It’s an actual real job. The only difference between us and the military is — we are not in the military and we don’t have as strict rules — but we do have a code that we should follow. Come on, man, have some respect for the women onboard. But then you look at the women, and I mean, come on, have some respect for yourself. But when you add alcohol, it’s not their friend. Clearly, it’s not their friend.

Did you actually hear — and excuse me for having to repeat this — Alissa saying that you “suck deck-crew dick?” No. I mean, that’s a really good edit. But no. Don’t you think if I did, I would have called her right to the bridge? The reality is, when insubordination like that happens, and the lack of respect, I would have terminated her immediately. I would have ended her contract that day . Also, we’re filming a show, so I work with production on how to fire.

But the reality is, I would never have someone who was so disrespectful like that. I’m her superior. I can fire her. And I think when I walked in, she didn’t think I could. Everybody thought the problem was Camille. Now everybody’s saying the problem actually wasn’t Camille. The problem was Alissa, and that problem stems from Fraser and the fact that he doesn’t lead his team. He’s got to learn to lead because he should have shut that down. My chief stews in the past, they would never engage because you have to have that fine line. Otherwise people don’t respect you and your leadership role. Clearly, Alissa doesn’t. I mean, look at Hayley. She’s great. She handled it with class. But Hayley’s older, Hayley has more life experience than Alissa and Fraser. And you can see that …

You can see that difference between their reactions when they were tanning and you went up to ask why they weren’t helping Tyler. Hayley is a team player. Alissa is all about Alissa. Right? Almost narcissist behavior.

You sent Fraser such a sweet text message. Do you usually send messages like that to your crew? Fraser sent me a message first, and he said, “Thank you for being kind to me on Watch What Happens Live . It was my first chief stew job. I learned a lot from you.” A lot of times people will step into roles where they think they have to do everything, because they put so much pressure on themselves without asking for help. And I think that’s what Fraser did. When people are humble, and they ask for help, I’m there for them. Period. They’re young. I’ve been doing this for years, I’ve had a lot of crews.

When did you carve out the time to write your book, Be the Calm or Be the Storm: Leadership Lessons From a Woman at the Helm ? Three years, it took three years. I had a collaborator. She interviewed me, she interviewed a lot of my former crew before Below Deck Mediterranean , who were still very much in each other’s lives. Apart from the TV show, we spend years together. And those crew she interviewed, and they’re in my book. They talked about my leadership style.

I recorded the audiobook, and I’m listening to it, and I’m like, “ Man , I wish I would have done a better job.” It’s not easy reading a book out loud in three days. That was the hardest challenge in my life. Writing the book was emotional, invigorating. Just, you know, the memories all came back.

Do you think retirement is on the horizon? I will never retire. I got many years in front of me. Even if I won the lottery, I would still run a boat.

Below Deck Lost Two Crew Members In One Episode, And As A Fan I’m Honestly Shocked This Isn’t The First Time That Happened

This week saw a few castaways from the St. David crew.

Pictured in this screengrab: Jared Woodin

Well, it looks like there's a little more wiggle room down in the crew quarters of the St. David. That's because this week's episode of Below Deck (which you can catch up on with a Peacock subscription ) saw the shocking early departure of not one but two onboard staffers. However, what's even more surprising is that this isn't the first time that's happened in Bravo's yacht-focused reality franchise.

After that widely despised eighth season of Below Deck Mediterranean , it looks like the O.G. Below Deck decided to fire up the engines where the drama's concerned for Season 11, with both bosun Jared Woodin and stew Cat Baugh ending their charter seasons earlier. However, only one of those early exits was voluntary.

Joining a long line of fired Below Deck crew—including Captain Sandy's number one hater Hannah Ferrier , accidental mustard-gas concocter Elizabeth Frankini and the exhaustingly argumentative Lexi Wilson , among many others—Jared Woodin was fired by Captain Kerry Titheradge due to bad behavior in the March 18th episode on the 2024 TV schedule , titled "Cat's Out of the Bag." Jared's dismissal came after he drunkenly barged into a crew cabin and berated deckhand Kyle Stillie for spilling loose tobacco near the boat's hot tub.

During the episode, Captain Kerry said this about Jared's inappropriate, over-the-top reaction and poor treatment of his crewmate:

This is the second time you've gone on the piss and you've had bad behavior. You're in a leadership role. You can't be acting like that. You gotta be above the fray. The way that you're treating these guys is not acceptable, and we've had discussions, and I've tried to guide you, I've shown you compassion. But, you've got shit going on, mate. You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel.

The Aussie captain was sympathetic, however, to the mental struggles Jared was clearly going through, and he told him that remaining on the boat would be "a disservice" to his mental health.

The topic of having a "good headspace" while working onboard also came up for Cat Baugh, whose own unexpected departure came after the stewardess received a distressing call from a friend back home in America. Deciding to put her own mental health first and go be there for her friend, Baugh put in her resignation with chief stew Fraser Olender and Captain Kerry, both of whom were supportive of her decision. Baugh said of her exit:

I wish I could have stayed. But, the thing is, there's no way I could have. This is too much. I need to be with the people [who] need me, and also, on this boat, I'm at a breaking point. I need to protect my mental health. It's like my support system is at home, not here.

Losing two crew members in one episode is surprising, sure, but not unprecedented. On Below Deck Down Under , the Aussie spin-off of the reality series, bosun Luke Jones was fired by Captain Jason Chambers for drunken misconduct after trying to get in a stew's bed naked while she was inebriated and unconscious. Shortly after, stew Laura Bileskalne's contract was also terminated for making repeating unwanted advances on a male deckhand. Below Deck veteran Lee Rosbach praised Chambers's "superb" handling of the crew misconduct.

So, as you can see, while this situation was shocking to many, it's by no means the first time it's happened.

Despite the two exits, there's still plenty more Below Deck to go, so tune in to Season 11 on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo to see if there will be any more crew shake-ups aboard the St. David .

Below Deck: Captain Sandy Yawn reflects on calling Fraser Olender a ‘cancer’

Captain Sandy Yawn and Fraser Olender on Below Deck Season 10.

Captain Sandy Yawn has officially exited Below Deck after Captain Lee Rosbach’s return, and she’s reflecting on one of the most talked-about moments of the season.

There’s no question that Captain Sandy brought some drama and controversy to the show.

One of those people was chief stew Fraser Olender, who often clashed with Captain Sandy.

Things reached a pivotal point when the captain called the chief stew a “cancer” on the yacht.

Now Captain Sandy has looked back at that moment, reflecting on her choice of words in the heat of the moment.

Does Captain Sandy Yawn regret calling Fraser Olender a ‘cancer’ on Below Deck?

Speaking to Us Weekly, the Below Deck Med personality reflected on working with Fraser. It didn’t take long for the hot topic of Captain Sandy calling Fraser a cancer that was impacting the St. David crew to come up.

Looking back, Captain Sandy admits she should have spoken differently and used different words to express her frustration with the chef stew.

“I had cancer and I will say this — I should have chosen different words. I’ve been a captain for many years [and] those were the terms we used. So [in terms of] evolving, I would change my terminology for sure. [It was a] bad choice of words,” she explained to the magazine.

The captain does not regret confronting Fraser, even if he was humiliated, as that’s just part of learning. Captain Sandy shared that Fraser came across as being afraid in his new leadership role. In his defense, she felt like the chief stew pressured himself to be perfect because he never had a good leadership role model.

Captain Sandy Yawn almost fired Fraser Olender from Below Deck

Two crew members got the boot during Captain Sandy’s tenure on the St. David yacht. Camille Lamb was first to get fired with her sparring partner, Alissa Humber, the most recent crew member fired.

However, the mid-season trailer teased that Fraser would be given his walking papers. Captain Sandy admitted to Us Weekly that she came close to firing him.

“There was a moment [where I considered firing him]. Absolutely. Because listen the walls are thin and [it is important to not] jump on their bandwagon. Change that narrative. That’s your role as the superior here,” the captain stated.

Instead, Captain Sandy gave him the tension-filled lecture, fired Alissa, and allowed the chief stew to turn things around. They even hugged when Captain Sandy left, with Fraser thanking her for everything she did for him.

As for where they stand today, that remains to be seen, as Fraser Olender used Twitter to blast Captain Sandy Yawn a few weeks ago. Below Deck viewers hoping for answers at the reunion may be disappointed as the rumor mill’s buzzing that it has been canceled.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo. Seasons 1-9 are streaming on Peacock.

Sandy is a very toxic boss, no doubt about it. It was all horrible to watch, a repeat of the Hannah season — same vicious sniping and nasty bullying by a petty captain who actually thinks she is a motivator, ha! Why Bravo does not protect her against herself is beyound me. Do they really think people like to watch all that negativity? How many more seasons does she get to ruin?

Captain Kerry Titheradge knew he was stepping into a "massive hole" when he got the call to helm  Below Deck , the flagship series in Bravo's most-watched franchise, taking over for Captain Lee Rosbach , who's been at the helm (pun intended) of the show since its premiere in 2013.

"Lee has been the backbone of Below Deck for 10 years," Kerry, who served as captain on the spinoff Below Deck: Adventure , remarks to ET over video chat, promoting the new episodes alongside season 11's returning chief stew, Fraser Olender .

"I've known Lee since before Below Deck , we used to play golf together, and before I took on Adventure , I called Lee up and I asked him, I said, 'Mate, would you do this again if you could redo this?'" Kerry recalls. "He said, 'Absolutely, mate...' and his best piece of advice is just, be yourself and that is what I did."

Kerry says he touched base with Lee before officially taking his place on Below Deck , getting the fan-favorite's blessing. While no official word has been given for the shake-up , it seems the health struggles that forced Lee to take a leave of absence in season 10 may be a factor. Lee's made it known it wasn't his call to step aside, but he remains in the NBCUniversal fold with Bravo's  Couch Talk , co-starring one-time  Below Deck  chief stew Kate Chastain , and as the host of Oxygen's new true-crime series,  Deadly Waters .

"I came to St. David, the biggest yacht in Below Deck history, the third captain of a franchise to drive the boat, with an amazing chief stew and we just rocked it," Kerry boasts.

Fraser has the unique honor of serving under four captains, the most of anyone else in franchise history; in addition to Lee and Kerry, he's worked with Captain Sean Meagher, who briefly stepped in for Lee on season 9, and Captain Sandy Yawn , the  Mediterranean  mainstay who took over for Lee amid those health complications in season 10.

"Each and every one of those [captains] lets you grow and become a better stew, or better crew member in general, because of it," Fraser says. "So, I'm very pleased to have been with all of them. You know, I did have a bit of a head-bump with Captain Sandy, but we're all good. We're pals now, and Lee taught me a lot, but equally, I wouldn't be where I was today without having filmed such a successful season with Captain Kerry. So, I'm grateful for all of their input for sure."

"I want to keep my job," he quips, acknowledging his very political answer.

Kerry offers praise right back to Fraser. As for the rest of the crew fans will meet as the season unfolds, it's not exactly smooth sailing. In the premiere, Kerry notes that the most difficult part of his job is not driving the boat; it's navigating the personalities on board.

"We have some people that are just, generally, very difficult," Fraser teases, sharing that at least one team member comes close to season 10's Camille Lamb. Sandy fired Camille midseason due to poor performance and her arguably erratic behavior.

"I think my crew cried every day," Fraser reveals. "Someone did every day, at least twice a day, for six weeks."

"Xandi is a phenomenal stewardess, and I don't know where I'd be without her," he shares, previewing this year's stews. "Cat is adorable and tries her best, and Barbie is lovely... but a problem child."

There is one more familiar face working aboard St. David this season; Ben Willoughby returns as lead deckhand, and a bit of a pain in Fraser's side.

"We do butt heads," Fraser admits. "He loves to get involved with my girls on the interior, and I'm here to work, and I'm here to have a successful charter season ... and maybe, put your flirty pants at the door until the end of the season, but he just loved-- I think he knows my trigger, but he knows where my buttons are. He likes to press them, and I guess it's my fault for letting him get to me the way it does."

As with every season of  Below Deck , the captain is only clued into some (or maybe, most of) the drama when the show makes it to air.

"To see the trailer , and especially to see that part with Ben and Fraser and Ben's, like, smirk-walk where he dismisses Fraser, mate, that pissed me off," Kerry rattles off, referencing a moment from the supertease in which Ben shames Fraser for having more team members fired than any other department.

"There is so much drama," Fraser promises. "I remember filming it in the field and thinking, 'Surely, we have enough now to wrap up this season and get some production on it,' but no, it just kept going."

All the drama is surely thanks in part to the charter guests, who stay anywhere from one to three nights on St. David. Kerry says the trailer, which previews some of the worst behavior from guests in the show's history, barely scratches the surface of what's to come.

"What you've seen are the tamest guests we've had," Kerry explains. "When I saw the trailer, I'm like, 'Come on, man!' So much more to come."

That includes Jill Zarin , the Real Housewives of New York City  OG. Fraser downright declares her the "most difficult" guest of the entire season, with non-stop demands. On the flip side, there are  some  enjoyable visitors -- including one who added "a kiss with Fraser" to his preference sheet!

"I do remember, I'm at my desk in my cabin and we're having... it was a New Year's Eve party, Fraser comes up to me, very sheepish, he didn't make much eye contact and he's like, 'Captain, I don't like this idea... but what are your thoughts on crew kissing a guest for New Year's Eve?'" Kerry shares. "And I said, 'Mate, look, I don't want any of the crew members hassled. Does the crew member want to?' And he looked at me and goes, 'Yes...' I didn't have to even ask who it was gonna be. I just went back to our paperwork and nodded my head."

"I have a rule: you're able to ask permission or you don't get caught," he adds. "That's it."

"I thought that I'd rather not get in trouble, I'd rather keep my job over a smooch for God's sake," Fraser says. "Listen, it's been my golden rule since day one to not get with guests, but it was part of the entertainment of the night. It didn't go any further than that, apart from it may have when we dropped them off, but then they were no longer guests, so I didn't see the problem."

Below Deck  airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo starting Feb. 5, with episodes streaming next day on Peacock.

Why Captain Sandy Yawn Fired Alissa Humber On Below Deck

Captain Sandy Yawn smiling

Season 10 of "Below Deck" was rife with drama, but the feud between the second stew Alissa Humber and deck-stew Camille Lamb  ended up costing each of them their jobs. "Below Deck Mediterranean" lead Captain Sandy Yawn — who was filling in for series regular Captain Lee at the time — explained her shocking decision to terminate both interior team members to better the rest of the crew.

From the second the St. David luxury yacht set sail for this charter season, coworkers Humber and Lamb's personalities did not mesh. In an interview with Showbiz CheatSheet , the deck-stew admitted that her problems with her direct boss, Humber, stemmed from the fact Lamb "doesn't like when people tell [her] what to do when [she] was going to do it anyway." So, basically, exactly what the second stew's job is. The season-long feud culminated with the two crew members arguing and exchanging shouts in earshot of the yacht's guests, which Captain Yawn deemed "unacceptable."

After the shouting match, Yawn decided to fire Lamb in Episode 9 , as it seemed like she was the source of the dispute. But why did the Captain fire Humber just a couple of charters later?

Captain Sandy Yawn deemed Alissa Humber 'insubordinate'

At first, Captain Sandy Yawn thought it would be smooth sailing following the termination of deck-stew Camille Lamb, but this certainly would not be the case. The Season 10 "Below Deck" cameras caught the head of the vessel overhearing Alissa Humber gossiping about her through the yacht's "thin walls." But the straw that broke the camel's back wound up an entirely different situation. When Humber and fellow stew Hayley De Sola Pinto were sunbathing while their other coworker was still working, Captain Yawn thought it was inappropriate for them to be relaxing instead of helping their teammate. While Yawn chastised Humber for her attitude, the second stew misspoke and called the captain just "Sandy" instead of her proper title.

"Alissa, when you said 'Yes Sandy, I mean Captain,' that was the f**k you in my face," the captain explained during the episode (via Bravo ). "No matter what job you work in, respect for hierarchy is a must."

Citing "insubordination" and "malicious gossip," Captain Yawn kicked another stew to the dock. Humber later said she felt she was the "scapegoat" for the crew's issues.

Alissa and the crew have had time to reflect

With time to process the drama that took place on the St. David yacht, it seems that Alissa Humber is reassessing her and her crew mates' actions on the boat. During a February episode of "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," the seasoned stew expressed regret over using the word "b***h" to describe Captain Sandy Yawn. But on the other hand, she admitted in a February interview with E! News that she "never got a good feel for Sandy."

"When the Camille and me situation was going on," Humber explained to the publication. "I felt like she really got down to Camille's level and talked with her, sat with her, ate with her, had comfortable conversations with her. ... When I tried to reach out to Sandy, I was actually shut down and my worries were dismissed."

In the end, it looks like everyone has moved on from the situation, with Humber even telling E! News that she and Camille Lamb have chatted "a few times" and are on "good terms." Even chief stew Fraser Olender acknowledged to Bravo that the Lamb versus Humber drama was "childish" in retrospect.

Below Deck season 10 release date

There is no release date as yet for UK viewers. However, previous seasons are available on Hayu with a subscription.

Below Deck season 10 cast

Joining Captain Lee on his Caribbean journey will be two familiar faces from last season: chef Rachel Hargrove and chief stew Fraser Olender. Everyone else will be new to the team, and with newbies comes the inevitable growing pains. And Captain Lee always has plane tickets to send people home if they disrespect the boat.

We’ll be watching to see whether new bosun Ross McHarg can handle the job. In the past, new bosuns have always had a trial by fire. Being a new bosun on any boat is tough, but being a new bosun with a new crew of deckhands on a megayacht is a whole other ballgame.

Thankfully, Captain Lee will have some stability in the interior with Olender as the chief stew, while Hargrove has things covered in the galley.

Here’s the complete crew coming to Below Deck season 10:

  • Captain Lee Rosbach
  • Chef Rachel Hargrove
  • Chief Stew Fraser Olender
  • Bosun Ross McHarg
  • Stew Hayley De Sola Pinto
  • Stew Alissa Humber
  • Deck/Stew Camille Lamb
  • Deckhand Tony Duarte
  • Deckhand Katie Glaser
  • Deckhand Ben Willoughby

Below Deck season 10 plot

Screen Rant

Why below deck fans think captain sandy dislikes fraser.

Below Deck season 10 has been a whirlwind for chief stew Fraser Olender, and Captain Sandy has not made it easy by showing she dislikes him.

Below Deck season 10 has been a whirlwind for the St. David crew since Captain Sandy Yawn took the helm, and fans believe she seriously dislikes chief stew Fraser Olender. It seems tensions have been building between Sandy and Fraser throughout the season, and it has been difficult for him. Not only is he working as a chief stew on a larger yacht, he also had to deal with a management change when Captain Lee Rosbach had to seek medical treatment. Fraser's first time being a chief stew, along with all the drama this season, has been a less than favorable start of a career.

Below Deck's Captain Sandy Yawn has been very vocal about her opinions on how Fraser runs his team. There have been many moments throughout the Below Deck season where Sandy has expressed that Fraser lacks taking charge of the interior. While she has been known to lead with an iron fist, it seems Fraser has not worked up to her standards. Often comparing the interior to her favorite deck team, Sandy's frustration grew when she found the interior team standing around together, while demanding the deck crew take out the trash. It all came to a head between Sandy and Fraser when she felt he was pushing guests off the boat. When Fraser tried to explain his side of the story, Sandy told him to stop talking, leaving Fraser in shock with her treatment of him.

Below Deck Fans Take Fraser Olender's Side

The tense moments have not gone unnoticed by Below Deck fans, taking to Reddit to express their thoughts on Captain Sandy and Fraser's turbulent relationship . In a thread started by violentfire , fans expressed their disdain for Sandy's treatment of Fraser, with the consensus favoring Fraser. WildRamsey commented, " And I think she hates anyone who doesn’t immediately kiss her a**…and isn’t deck crew, " with LuckyJackfruit8078 expressing, " There is nothing worse than the feeling you don't have the support of your superior. She is not good at doing that with the interior at all. She set him up for failure ." While it is clear that fans are on Fraser's side, they also noted how Sandy took Chef Rachel Hargrove out for coffee to discuss her performance, pointing out that Sandy does not respect Fraser, as she didn't give him the same treatment. It is clear that Sandy has her favorites, and Fraser is not one of them.

Below Deck's Fraser Olender Is An Excellent Chief Stew

Below Deck fans are clearly on Fraser's side when it comes to Captain Sandy's unfair attitude towards him. For his first role as chief stew, fans feel like he is doing an excellent job. Charter guests love him, and he seems to truly care about his staff. Fraser gets the job done. while also being professional. Fans are wondering what more Sandy could ask of her chief stew, expressing that her treatment of him makes her a bad boss. While it is clear to some fans that Fraser is doing a great job, fans expect there will be more drama to come and hope that Fraser hangs in there.

This is not the first time Sandy has been accused of favoritism between her crew. However, running a super yacht is no easy feat. While it is Sandy's job to oversee everything that is happening on the boat, sometimes she doesn't seem to know what is going on. Her assumptions and lack of communication with Fraser has caused so much tension, leaving fans suggesting that Sandy should take a hard look at her own management style. While it seems Sandy has shown her true colors this season on Below Deck , fans are excited to see what happens next.

Captain Sandy's Biggest Below Deck Regret

Captain Sandy Yawn visits SiriusXM

For fans of Bravo TV 's "Below Deck Mediterranean," Captain Sandy Yawn is indeed a familiar face. She serves as a super-yacht captain on the series, imparting insights about life and leadership as she navigates through a range of challenges while at sea. Throughout her illustrious 30-year career, she has attained the most prominent position as a mega yacht captain and received the prestigious Distinguished Crew Award from the International Superyacht Society.

She has had decades of experience in the ocean but only became a part of the Bravo series in 2015. As a leader, she had the duty of taking care of her crew, but the female captain sometimes also had to face making tough calls like letting people go. One instance of this was during her interim tenure at St. David, Yawn made the decision to dismiss Alissa Humber, the second stew, and Camille Lamb, who held the position of deck-stew. Fraser Olender also faced the possibility of being let go.

He held the crucial role of handling all the interior crew members as the chief stew. However, he faltered by talking about the captain behind her back. This came to a head and their confrontation led Yawn to call Olender something inappropriate. She knew it wasn't right when she referred to him as a "cancer." She told US Weekly in an exclusive interview, "I had cancer and I will say this — I should have chosen different words."

Yawn knew she messed up

Captain Sandy Yawn deeply regretted what she said, particularly as a leader and a professional. She further told US Weekly, "I've been a captain for many years [and] those were the terms we used. So [in terms of] evolving, I would change my terminology for sure."

In addition to this, there was also a moment when Fraser Olender almost lost his job. She said, "There was a moment [where I considered firing him]. Absolutely. Because listen the walls are thin and [it is important to not] jump on their bandwagon. Change that narrative. That's your role as the superior here."

The fans of "Below Deck" couldn't help but share their reactions to the feud. In a Reddit discussion, people were divided on the drama and claimed that both of them messed up, but the general consensus was Yawn was a toxic boss.

Although she was being tagged as a bad leader, she recognized the power of her crew. Yawn added that the interior team members are under the authority of the chief stew, so she let them solve the issues themselves. Yawn stood by her refusal to get between the crew members, she explained, "If you need help, ask me. But until then, I stay out of it. I will only help if I see that the client is suffering in service."

Despite the drama, Olender admitted he learned a lot from Yawn

There's no doubt that Captain Sandy Yawn crossed a line with her remarks, but Chief Stew Fraser Olender acknowledged his lack of experience in the said role. To solve this, Yawn was prompted to grant him the freedom to seek assistance whenever necessary. She shared that Olender's apprehension concerning his position was pretty normal and further remarked, "As a captain, I still defer to my team. I don't know everything about everything. And there's no shame in that."

In his defense, Olender was still adjusting to Captain Sandy Yawn's management style. The chief stew confessed that Captain Lee Rosbach and Yawn's management styles weren't similar. While Rosbach trusted him to be on his own, Yawn helped him discover himself.

Despite their dispute, Olender was thankful for the learning experience while working alongside Yawn. He told US Weekly in an interview, "She taught me a lot about myself. ... She really opened my eyes to things I previously wouldn't have dealt with so well — without her making sure I did."

Olender also credited Rachel Hargrove's help. He said she was one of the reasons why he was able to navigate his new role better. He added, "I absolutely loved working with her. She was a sense of security for me coming back this season with everything that was on my plate."

Below Deck’s Captain Sandy Yawn Reveals She Almost Fired Fraser Olender During Season 10; Says She Regrets Calling Him A “Cancer”

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Below Deck star Captain Sandy Yawn has been called out for having a bias against her interior teams. There’s a distinct trend of her uplifting or glossing over problems on deck teams, while nit-picking at the interior crew. Sandy, ( sorry, Captain Sandy ), even went after the immensely talented chef Rachel Hargrove . Captain Lee Rosbach only ever supported Rachel , and rightly so.

During her interim tenure on the motor yacht St. David, Captain Sandy fired second stew Alissa Humber and deck/stew Camille Lamb . The interior was left with two OG’s by the end of the season. According to Us Weekly , poor Fraser Olender was also on the chopping block.

As a department head, it was Fraser’s responsibility to set the tone for his crew. He erred by gossiping about Captain Sandy and undermining her authority. He admitted the mistake once confronted. Fraser’s remorse saved his job , but just barely.

“There was a moment [where I considered firing him]. Absolutely. Because listen the walls are thin and [it is important to not] jump on their bandwagon,” Sandy stated. “Change that narrative. That’s your role as the superior here.”

She continued, “You’re absolutely responsible for your team. So I didn’t go to the [interior] team members [with my issues]. I went to the chief stew and said, ‘This isn’t happening. You hired them. Fix it.’”

Captain Sandy defended her management style by saying it was all in the best interest of the client. She explained, “Like, if you need help, ask me. But until then, I stay out of it. I will only help if I see that the client is suffering in service. If I see something going wrong or there’s disharmony on board in my eyes — that’s when I step in.”

In the midst of a confrontation with Fraser, Captain Sandy called him a “cancer.” It seemed an unnecessarily harsh term to use, especially in a professional setting. Certainly not a word that can be attributed to constructive criticism.

Sandy admitted it was wrong to speak to Fraser that way. She said, “I had cancer and I will say this — I should have chosen different words. I’ve been a captain for many years [and] those were the terms we used. So [in terms of] evolving, I would change my terminology for sure. [It was a] bad choice of words,” Captain Sandy added.

To her credit, Sandy did give Fraser a second chance. She admired how her message was received.

“We all need humility in our roles. So, humility isn’t [about] being humiliated. It’s just being humble. And Fraser on the bridge admitted to me that he had never done this before,” Sandy explained. “When you’re in that position, I always have an open-door bridge policy. I would’ve helped him and guided him and tried to say, ‘Hey, delegate and let them make mistakes.’”

Fraser did struggle in his new role. He was often advised to delegate more to his team, at the risk of burning out. Captain Sandy opined that Fraser was “afraid” of the chief stew responsibilities. She added, “I think that was a hard thing for him because in his mind [he thought he was] supposed to know everything. But I don’t wanna take a risk because they don’t know anything. As a captain, I still defer to my team. I don’t know everything about everything. And there’s no shame in that.”

While filming, Fraser acknowledged that he learned a lot from Captain Sandy . And she was happy to function as a mentor and help the chief stew take “pride” in his growth.

Of course, the entire crew had to adjust to Captain Sandy stepping in for Captain Lee Rosbach . The latter always took a hands-off approach until s–t really hit the fan. Fraser admitted it “ took some time ” to “get used to” the interim captain’s management style.

“I think they have, overall, very different management styles. I knew Captain Lee and I knew how he worked. He also trusted me and he gave me the confidence to be creative and enjoy my take on [it],” he explained.

Contrasting that with Sandy , who has been accused of micro-managing and playing favorites with her crew, Fraser said, “But equally, she taught me a lot about myself and I think at the end of the season [you’ll] understand what I mean by that. She really opened my eyes to things I previously wouldn’t have dealt with so well — without her making sure I did.”

It’s great that Fraser turned his dynamic with Sandy around. Certainly, it would have been the end of his career on Below Deck if he hadn’t changed the narrative. Prior to his conversation with Captain Sandy on the bridge during the February 7th episode, Fraser imploded.

“Pure rage. I’ve never been in a fight and said, ‘It’s not the right time to speak to me,’” he said during confessional. “I’ve never felt so sickened by a captain in my entire life. I’m in actual shock.”

Those interested in learning more about Sandy’s leadership style can read her new book, Be the Calm or Be the Storm: Leadership Lessons . Captain Sandy explained why she wrote the book. “The fans were asking for a book on leadership, and I thought [I would] just throw a little bit of my personal life in there. I wanted to show them that you could go from who I used to be [but] that when people invest in other people you can actually change your life and become a super yacht captain. I had no idea that was possible,” she said.

Ironically, after all this drama, Captain Lee is back on Below Deck for the remainder of the season.

Below Deck Loses 2 Crewmembers After a Firing and a Dramatic Season 11 Departure

Below deck 's capt. kerry titheradge fired the first season 11 yachtie during the bravo series' march 18 episode, but that wasn't the only shocking departure. find out who else left the yacht..

The  St. David  is down not one, but two crewmembers.

During Below Deck 's March 18 episode, Captain Kerry Titheradge  fired the first season 11 yachtie when he let Bosun Jared Woodin go for unprofessional behavior, the last straw being an inebriated Jared barging into Stew Barbie Pascual 's cabin the night prior and yelling at Deckhand Kyle Stillie for leaving a mess of loose tobacco on the deck after a night of partying.

"This is the second time you've gone on the piss and you've had bad behavior," Kerry told his subordinate. "You're in a leadership role. You can't be acting like that. You gotta be above the fray. The way that you're treating these guy is not acceptable."

But it wasn't just the alcohol that was the problem, as Kerry noted Jared's mental state wasn't where it needed to be. "You've got s--t going on, man," he shared. "You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel."

However, Jared agreed his head wasn't in the right place and accepted his termination graciously.

"This ain't the right place for me at the right time," Jared replied, to which Kerry responded, "I don't blame you for that. Take this time and work on yourself. Me keeping you here is a disservice to you."

Before departing the super-yacht, Jared reflected in a confessional, "I thought I was in a good headspace coming into this. I'm really not. And as much as I'd like to be I'm just lying to myself."

But Jared wasn't the only teammate to set sail during the latest episode. Stew Cat Baugh willingly left the ship after admittedly struggling with the job all season long.

"I really wanna push through for you guys," Cat, in tears, told Chief Stew Fraser Olender after receiving a very distressing call from a friend back home in America. "I'm just losing my mind right now."

And Fraser totally understood his crewmember's needs.

Christine quinn's husband christian dumontet arrested for second time, this real housewives of bh star is leaving after season 13, christine quinn's son taken to hospital after her husband's arrest.

"If you're in a very unhappy place," he told her, "I'd rather you put your health and your mental health before that and we get you the help you need as soon as we can."

In a confessional, Fraser elaborated, "I don't know what is going on, but you can look into someone's eyes sometimes and see that there is no more that they can give. They are going through enough to be incapable and I need to do what's right for her. "

See how the crew copes with the unexpected departures when Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo. And keep reading to look back at the most shocking Below Deck firings ever.

If there's one thing to learn from Camille Lamb 's Below Deck firing, it's to not slack off on the job. That's exactly why the season 10 stew was let go by substitute Captain Sandy Yawn , as Chief Stew Fraser Olender continued to criticize Camille's behavior on board.

From being caught drinking while preparing for a new charter to partying at late hours and more, Fraser informed Captain Sandy that he had reached his "last straw."

"She's the common denominator in all of this," said Captain Sandy. "Great girl, great personality, but at the same time, we have to do what's best for the boat."

Below Deck Adventure 's Kyle Dickard was let go just three episodes into the reality franchise's latest series—which premiered in November 2022. After picking fights with his fellow deckhand Nathan Morley —as well as kissing crew mates in front of guests—Kyle was offered by Captain Kerry Titheradge the opportunity to resign so that his firing would not end up on his personal record.

Kyle took the Captain up on his offer and left the boat after just one charter.

Captain Sandy let bosun Raygan Tyler go during season seven of Below Deck Mediterranean ,  not only for causing the boat to  take a small hit while docking, but also for not stepping up to the plate as a leader.

But Captain Sandy didn't want her firing to discourage the bosun, as she told Raygan, "If I had the time and I wasn't running a boat this size, I would train you. I would teach you."

In addition to onboard romances and failing to follow directions , one of the biggest reasons behind stew Elizabeth Frankini 's Below Deck firing was her infamous laundry room accident , during which made a toxic mess when combining bleach and laundry soap.

"Unfortunately, I didn't know that was so toxic and I feel so bad about it," she told E! News of the incident in December 2020 . "You know, I do feel really bad, especially 'cause Francesca [ Rubi ] did say, 'Take it outside.'"

The bosun and stew were both fired by Captain Jason Chambers for inappropriate behavior after a night of partying with their fellow yachties.

Luke Jones was let go after getting into Stew Margot Sisson 's bed naked while she was drunk and unconscious. Laura Bileskaine also made unwanted advances on Deckhand Adam Kodra despite him telling her he was not interested in hooking up.

Jason made it known that consent was a must, and sent both crewmembers packing.

Tensions between stew Lexi Wilson and Chef Mathew Shea came to a head during an explosive dinner fight on season six of Below Deck Mediterranean , during which Lexi told Matt that his parents "should've aborted you." That was the last straw for Captain Sandy, who fired her not long after the incident.

Deckhand Tom Pearson said "bon voyage" to Below Deck Sailing Yacht after getting let go by Captain Glenn Shephard . Tom hit his last strike with the Captain after failing to report that the boat's anchor was dragging during heavy winds one night, causing a potential safety risk for everyone on board.

"It had to be done. It was such a grievous thing that he dropped the ball there, he had to go, and we had to just be man down and live with it, you know?" Captain Glenn said of the decision  on Watch What Happens Live. "So, obviously, you don't want to do that, but yeah, it had to happen."

Some people are picky eaters, but Below Deck Down Under' s Ryan McKeown was quite the picky chef, as he would judge guests'  food requests  and fail to take  criticism from Captain Jason Chambers , as well.

Perhaps Ryan's Below Deck exit is one of the franchise's most memorable, as he mooned Jason and viewers on his way off the boat.

Below Deck Down Under stew Magda Ziomek 's firing was another case of slacking on the job. After constantly being on her phone texting or video chatting with her boyfriend, Chief Stew Aesha Scott decided to replace Magda before the end of the charter season.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Peter Hunziker was fired from the series in June 2020 after he shared an offensive post on social media.

"Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Mediterranean has been terminated for his racist post," Bravo wrote in a statement at the time. "Bravo and 51 Minds are editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes."

Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier was let go by Captain Sandy on Below Deck Mediterranean after boson Malia White discovered her co-star possessed undeclared Valium and a vape pen, the former of which Hannah claimed was for her anxiety.

"If I could do it all over again, I would've just declared them as soon as I came on board," Hannah stated in an August 2020 interview with E! News. "It was definitely not something that was intentional. I wasn't trying to hide anything.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Delaney Evans left just as quickly as she arrived. After initially being brought on during season six to help out Chief Stew Katie Flood , Katie determined that Delaney was doing more harm than good, choosing to let her go after just one charter.

"I think she was overwhelmed with the situation, and I think that, you know, in her mind, the best solution to the situation was just to go back to what they had before," Delaney told Bravo Insider of Katie's decision. "I think she was just overwhelmed with everything that was going on and all the feedback she was getting."

Deckhand Shane Coopersmith was a bit in over his head on season eight of Below Deck , as he was let go for failing to know basic skills, reporting late for duty and taking naps on the job.

Chaos in the kitchen led to Captain Lee Rosbach letting Chef Leon Walker go on season three of Below Deck . After an oven fire broke out , Lee placed the blame on Chief Stew Kate Chastain but was ultimately the one sent home.

Like several of the franchise's stars, Below Deck 's Chris Brown  was fired  during season five for failing to fully perform his duties. After being let go by Captain Lee, Chris shared some parting words as he left the boat, stating , "Who gives a s--t?"

Chef Mila Kolomeitseva was fired by Captain Sandy on season four of Below Deck Mediterranean after failing to use her cooking skills to produce top-quality food for guests—including some not-so-nice nachos .

"Of course it makes me feel awful," Mila said of her departure . "People like me who have big egos sometimes have to be put down to earth a little bit. But it makes me feel like I want to work even harder."

Sometimes people just don't work well together. That's exactly why Captain Lee fired Chandler Brooks during season six of Below Deck , telling the boson, "I don't think it's a good fit."
