Review for South Shore Yacht Club

Great folks run this place. We were in the area during our Great Loop adventure in late 2019 and wanted to meet up with friends and come and go for about a week. I called and spoke to the dockmaster and told him we were looking for a good deal in MKE for a week's stay on a dock, and he made a deal that was so fair I will not even admit to it in print for fear that someone else will ask it of him. Suffice it to say, I had the lowest slip rent in Milwaukee for an entire week—there is little doubt of that. And this was before we belonged to a club with reciprocity. The deal was just kind people being kind to strangers by sharing their wonderful facility for a fraction of what it is worth. It still chokes me up a little.

SSYC is one of the friendliest and down to earth clubs on the Great Lakes. Great food. Easy walking distance to stores/restaurants. Adjacent to the Lake Express Ferry dock. SSYC has fuel & pump-out services as well. Transient dockage is available in the horseshoe by the fuel docks. Call the club ahead of time if you plan to stay the night.

As a new member I am slightly biased, but as a life long sailor I am critical. I can say honestly that this is a great facility, with very gracious members and great service. Within walking distance are a few great little Italian grocery stores to provision your boat, and numerous members that are always willing to help and get the transient sailor a ride to a store or help make repairs. Truly a great down to earth sincere place.

I've been a member since June 2021. The members were so welcoming and made me feel comfortable immediately. I have fond memories of the monthly themed dinners, sailing to Catalina, organizing the annual stand up paddle event, sharing time in Lake Arrowhead with fellow members, and more! It is so fun!

I've been a member since June 2021 and have met some great friends. We have gone to Catalina together, did paddle board lessons(I lead that group, as an instructor), Super Bowl Party, enjoy the monthly dinners, and more!

My husband and I had just moved to Orange County from Washington, DC and SSYC has been a great club to meet new friends, participate in fun excursions - and to ignite our love of sailing! We've been so fortunate to have met sailors of all levels from across the country through our membership and involvement with SSYC.

Every second Friday each month, South Shore Yacht Club has a dinner party for members and potential members. Last night, the dinner was at the Newport Beach Yacht Club located at 1099 Bayside Drive in Newport Beach. I've been to various private clubs, but this is probably the most personable club I've been to. The membership fee is very reasonable, and the people are such a delight. This club has a lot of events with high participation rates. The members really do an excellent job in making this a great place to make new friends. It's website is: http://Southshoreyc.org. It's also on facebook.

What a fun group of people! They call themselves "The Friendliest Yacht Club in the World" and they are just that. They have also been referred to as "A Drinking Club with a Sailing Problem!" A great group of unpretentious adults ranging in age from early 30's to 100 consisting of a bunch of sailors and wannabe sailors. All skill levels are welcome from just want to learn to sail to Navy Admiral. The only requirement is you like being on the water. You own a 50 foot Marlo-Hunter, you are invited. You own a 16 foot electric Duffy, you are invited. You are thinking about buying a boat but not sure what you really want, you are invited. They have many boating trips planned throughout the year and sponsor a number of sailing races during different seasons throughout the year. Welcome to the biggest, friendliest and most inclusive yacht club on Lake Michigan, bringing together folks from all walks of life. While we have our blue-blazer traditions, no one ever called us stuffy. What you'll find is a more laid-back vibe that invites people to just be themselves, away from the pressures of life in general. We're a busy gathering place year round, unlike typical yacht clubs that go into winter hibernation.

Dues and slip fees are surprisingly affordable, in part because our passionate members help maintain the place. Being a major Great Lakes yacht club, we host an exciting sailing and power boating scene. Yet, a growing segment of members don't even own boats. For them, SSYC is all about fellowship, in the most romantic spot on Milwaukee's lakefront. Smack in the heart of the city's most happening neighborhood.

What's it like to be a member? It's different for everyone. You can carve out your own experience and pick your context. But we believe one thing is true across the board. Among private clubs in metropolitan Milwaukee, South Shore Yacht Club gives you one of the best experiences for the money.

This Iconic Miami Beach Hotel Is Getting a Massive Refresh — and Will Reopen With 3 Pools, a Rooftop Penthouse, and a Poolside Cafe

The Shore Club, which has been around since the 1940s, will reopen in 2027 as part of the Auberge Resorts Collection.

The Shore Club, the 1940s architectural gem on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, is poised for a high-octane return in 2027. The property will become a part of the Auberge Resorts Collection portfolio, which currently features 27 exquisitely designed hotels and resorts around the globe.

The Shore Club Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection , will mark a new chapter in the storied property's history and will comprise 73 guest rooms and suites, including a rooftop penthouse, as well as 49 residences and a private villa, for sale.

"We are excited to expand our urban footprint with the addition of Shore Club in Miami Beach, a place where nature, art, culture, and entertainment come together in uniquely compelling ways. Our proven skill in elevating historic properties through exceptional service and experiences together with Witkoff's vision and Robert Stern's exquisite design will transform this legendary address into a dynamic new destination that embodies the unique spirit of Miami Beach. We can't wait to bring this vision to life," Dan Friedkin, chairman of Auberge Resorts Collection, said in a press release, referring to one of the property's developers, the Witkoff Group, and the principal architect of the project Robert A.M. Stern Architects. 

The new three-acre development will include the original beachfront Shore Club, which Albert Anis designed in signature Miami Modern style, and 1930s Art Deco The Cromwell Hotel. It will also have a new 18-story residential tower and an 8,000-square-foot villa, all serviced by the Auberge Resorts Collection.

Two interior design firms have been tasked with preserving the property's vibrant past and historic character while establishing it as the most luxurious destination in South Beach. Renderings of the new tower show a curvilinear exterior inspired by the movement of waves, featuring expansive balconies with prime Atlantic ocean views. The interiors are reminiscent of yachts, with plenty of rich wood and brass accents.

Amenities will include a restaurant, a poolside cafe and a bar, three pools, a spa and a gym, and a beach club. Residence owners will also have access to their own private pool, a library, and a lounge. 

The Shore Club is the latest luxury development on Collins Avenue, home to many of Miami Beach's legendary Art Deco hotels. The Raleigh, another iconic 1940s hotel, is also set to reopen in late 2026 operated by Rosewood.
