Silver Sturgeon is Woods’ Silver Fleet’s largest and most versatile venue. A 21st century, luxury river yacht with capacity for up to 550 guests.

Designed by leading British architects, including fashion designer Tristram Webber, The Silver Sturgeon is a sight to behold.

With a main deck that includes a central bar and elegantly sculptured staircase, it has the flexibility to transform into theatre style venue, seating 350 guests, or a total dining facility for 440 diners.

With the latest high calibre technology and a sophisticated lighting system able to adjust to the mood of the occasion onboard, The Silver Sturgeon provides everything needed for large corporate events, weddings, presentations, product launches or private screenings.

The Silver Sturgeon’s upper deck is fitted with an open air glass bar, complimented by chrome finishing that offers breathtaking views of The River Thames. The lower deck has a luxuriously neutral palette, think hues of butterscotch, intertwined with natural oak and maple finishing.

With subtly illuminated glass and shades of taupe throughout, the interiors of the Silver Sturgeon have been specially designed to allow the space onboard to adapt to each clients’ individual vision.

“Great night on a beautiful boat” Review of Silver Sturgeon

My friends wedding and they wanted a reception to match their personalities and tastes. The Silver sturgeon gave them all of this and more. Luxury, Class, Style and a bit of Bling! The staff were lovely, the manager really on the ball, and the bar man on the upper deck deserves a medal he never stopped and smiled through the onslaught of many trying to vie for his attention. The boat is a show stopper, like a mini cruise ship but not of the tug boat kind. Food is fine, pretty much what you'd expect when catering for so many, we had a BBQ with options for meat/fish and veg (the charcoal buns were dense and cloying), but thats a small pick at an otherwise perfect evening. The views as we cruised along the Thames dipping under iconic bridges made me realise what a great city London is, and I cant say enough good things about The Silver Sturgeon and its people. Thank you all for a great night, a wedding and a night to remember

We create a bespoke menu for each of our clients according to their desired event style - with our on deck BBQ menu we have added the very trendy, black Charcoal Burgers - sorry they weren't to your taste and we will look at your comment. Our Head Chef, Doug Gaunt, featured this year during the Evening Standard's London Food Month with his 'Laurent-Perrier Lunch Cruise' - more planned for next year. Best wishes Kate Woods

Myself & my husband managed to get tickets last minute for their NYE black tie 5 course dinner extravaganza. We were wowed from start to finish. All of the staff including the security were bloody brilliant. The food (especially being on the boat & catering for so many was exceptional. We shared a table with 2 other couples whom we had never met before but all got on famously(thank god!) The champagne reception was well received both when we arrived & just before midnight(and the certainly weren't tight with it either) DJ was brilliant. We ordered several mojitos which were pretty damn good considering how busy the bar was. AND as for the location for the fireworks OMG, out of this world!! I have already recommended this event to many of my friends & if in the country will definitely be booking it for next year!

One of the highlights of our trip to London was a beautiful night on The Silver Sturgeon. To go under the beautifully lit London Bridge while having a delicious meal was perfect. The London skyline including Big Ben while on this boat was magical.

Went on the boat for a welcome party down the Thames with runaway tours for the bon jovi palladium gig. The staff were friendly the boat itself was stunning but a little small and the drinks were very pricey but all in all a good time to be had.

My husband and c90 colleagues and partners went on the Silver Sturgeon on 30 July for a company event. The accommodation on the boat was comfortable though the air con was set too high and I was quite chilly all evening. The waiter service was excellent but I was very disappointed to find that we were having a BBQ as it is my least favourite type of food and as I don't eat bread or like burgers, etc ended up with a chicken skewer, a piece of salmon and salad. Neither my husband nor I had any dessert either. There were three roving musicians but no dancing. A slightly disappointing evening for us though most of the others seemed to enjoy themselves.

The Silver Sturgeon is the largest passenger vessel to sail beneath the bridges of the River Thames, hosting luxury events for up to 550 guests, for both seated and standing functions. The venue offers great flexibility, as the Ensign Room at the stern of the vessel and its smaller open deck are ideal for welcome receptions and breakout space, alongside the River Room at the bow, the largest internal space, perfect for larger meetings, receptions, and dinners. Stairs lead up from both rooms to the open-top deck, where guests can take in the impressive views as they sail along the Thames. The Silver Sturgeon can accommodate up to 440 guests for dinner across the River Room and Ensign Room, or 550 guests for a standing reception throughout the entire vessel. Woods' Quay - Silver Sturgeon’s epic new home for London events

Woods’ Silver Fleet has been cruising on the Thames for over 7O years, welcoming aboard guests such as Prince Charles, Rihanna, Sir Mick Jagger, Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Brigitte Bardot and Justin Timberlake.

Their events yachts Silver Sturgeon, Silver Barracuda and Silver Darling now have a new, sleek home named Woods' Quay which, after 20 years in planning and build, quietly sailed into place during London’s lockdown. Now fully completed and launched on 14th August.

This extraordinary new building is made up of 4 different but connected spaces and offers wonderful flexibility for small groups wanting an intimate dinner party with a river tour aboard 15m Silver Darling, through to a large Covid Secure seated dining when also chartering the 61m Silver Sturgeon. 

The Comorant Deck is the dramatic entrance to this venue, with a pebble terrazzo floor and stunning views this is the perfect place for greeting guests or dining. 

A room designed to celebrate the Woods family’s twin passions for feasting & the glorious river Thames the East Wing has glass walls to capture the ever-changing riverscape, a tasting galley, tasting bar, spacious outside deck and in the centre of it all a large feasting table with seating for up to 16 guests. 

The West Wing  is idyllically positioned to take in a panoramic water level view of Cleopatra’s Needle, the Houses of Parliament & the London Eye. This space offers vast floor to ceiling windows, a wraparound outside deck (for cigar or cigarette lovers) and a show-stopping bar serving an incredible selection of cocktails, wines and spirits. 

Lastly, the Mooring Pontoon is central London’s longest private mooring. At 140m this highly visible mooring deck can be used to enhance your guests arrival aboard your chosen river yacht, or create an impressive branding impact within one of the world’s most celebrated panorama’s. The quay is located directly in front of the Savoy Hotel’s river entrance, a few steps from Covent Garden and on the quiet, leafy Victoria Embankment. Woods Quay also overlooks one of London’s most famous views of Westminster, once painted by Monet.

The sleek open tasting kitchen for guests to view the chef’s at work is fully equipped with Electrolux Grand Cuisine appliances. The newest addition to Woods’ Silver Fleet’s luxury collection of venues, Woods Quay, offers a place to pause, hidden from the hustle and bustle of London. This architectural delight boasts sleek and contemporary interiors, designed to link the venue seamlessly to the river. The central Cormorant Deck welcomes guests as they arrive from Victoria Embankment with uninterrupted river views, while the flanking East and West Wings are designed to be your exclusive private dining room and bar, respectively. Floor to ceiling glass and a partially open-air front fills the space with natural light, with 180 degree views from Big Ben in the west, all the way across to St Pauls in the east of the city. Woods Quay has been designed to be as versatile as possible, accommodating intimate numbers of up to 56 for sophisticated private dining in the East Wing with its Michelin-standard tasting kitchen, where guests can watch our chefs at work. The Woods family have been Thames Watermen since 1866. They launched into the 20th Century with sightseeing tours by Lillian and Alfred Woods from the Tower of London. Lillian encouraged her son Alan's inspired idea to gradually build the 'Silver Fleet' in the 1960s, each vessel handcrafted for the River Thames, in Kent and Suffolk shipyards.

In the decades since, Woods' Silver Fleet have become highly sought after London 'hideaways' with yacht interiors, detailed finishes and hospitality. The Silver Sturgeon, Silver Barracuda and Silver Darling have been privately chartered for film stars, politicians and British Royalty for decades.

Chair, Alan Woods was awarded an MBE for Services to River Travel in 2020. He is also a Past Master of the Company of Watermen & Lightermen and is an 'Extra Waterman to HM the Queen'.

After nearly twenty years in their roles, siblings Thomas, Kate & William Woods navigate the Silver Fleet into the 21st century, pushing the boundaries of events & shipbuilding on the Thames, all from their new central London home, Woods Quay.

The Silver Sturgeon event spaces were designed by leading British architects with world-class hospitality in mind. This spectacular boat boasts a stylish 150sqm open air deck with a dramatic steel and glass bar. This space has its own sophisticated lighting system designed for the vessel by the internationally renowned, Sally Storey. Sipping cocktails here on a long hot summer evening, whilst taking in what are arguably the best views of London, is a magnificent experience.

A curvaceous glass staircase with subtly illuminated treads, is the impressive and imposing feature of the venue's main space, the River Room. As well as woven Missoni flooring and an oak dance floor, the River Room has a large leather bench seat, positioned at the very fore of the boat. Here guests can take in the views of London from the river.

The Ensign room features a dramatic bar with a marquetry facade, together with a subtle, pure wool carpet, which reflects the shimmering curves of the Thames’ banks.

The Silver Sturgeon boat can host celebrations for up to 550 standing guests or for up to 458 in a seated capacity. Conferences and meetings, for up to 300 theatre style, benefit from enhanced presentation and screening facilities. And for the presentations, product launches or fashion shows, the River Room also offers a black out blind system.

In 1866 Alfred Woods was apprenticed as a Waterman & Lighterman of the River Thames and 1947 Alfred operated a small ex-World War 2 launch from Irongate Stairs beneath Tower Bridge.

In 1966 Alan Woods, the son of Alfred, built the 'Silver Marlin' the first vessel designed specially for parties. As the concept of entertaining on the River was extremely novel the boat attracted celebrity guests such as Brigitte Bardot, Michael Caine and the first astronauts to land on the Moon. In 1981 Alan Woods was made Waterman to HM the Queen. In 1997 the 'Silver Sturgeon' was launched as the largest passenger vessel ever to operate through the bridges of the River Thames thanks to a revolutionary wheelhouse design by Alan Woods.

The Silver Sturgeon was selected to host a river trip to celebrate HM the Queen's Golden Wedding Celebrations, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry are joined by every European crowned Head of State. In 2007 the Silver Sturgeon underwent a £2 million redesign showcasing a contemporary, 'yacht' interior to celebrate the company's Diamond Anniversary Year.

As London prepares for a night of glittering celebration, join us aboard the Silver Sturgeon for a spectacular evening of Champagne, exquisite food, fine wine and dancing, at our New Year’s Eve Champagne Cruise.

About the event

New year’s eve 2024 aboard silver sturgeon with the mayor’s fireworks & the illuminated river..

Cruise through London’s glistening riverscape aboard our sixty-one metre river yacht, Silver Sturgeon, and celebrate the arrival of 2025 to the chimes of Big Ben with Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne.

Since mid 2021, the Illuminated River artwork on all central London’s bridges from London Bridge to Lambeth Bridge, creates an ever-changing colourful light display with a unique viewpoint from the Thames. To enhance the experience of moving gently through the architectural lighting artwork by artist Leo Villereal, the tables and decks will be specially lit by candle light.

Eat, drink & make merry with a seasonal menu from small UK producers by Executive Head Chef, Marcus Cunningham, an inspired mood and dance floor mixed soundtrack with our resident DJ and matched fine wines.

Board the Silver Sturgeon at Tower Bridge Quay beside Tower Bridge, with glasses of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne on arrival and take in the panorama of London’s shimmering river banks from your dining table or the candle-lit, teak deck bar; interiors will feature sculptural winter displays and booth seats draped with soft faux fur throws.

Your delicious menu will be sleekly served – from amuse bouche to petits fours – on the main deck tables, decorated for the occasion. A Champagne toast will accompany the chimes of Big Ben at Westminster and the spectacular mayor’s fireworks, enjoyed from both our spacious open decks.

The perfect finale aboard your private river yacht will be on the River Room’s dance floor as our on board DJ takes you to the past, present or future…

Woods’ Silver Fleet reserves the right to cancel an event due to insufficient numbers, in which case an alternative date/vessel or full refund of monies will be offered.
