Luxury New England wedding on the Coast | Anne & Shawn

New england wedding venues.

I cannot say enough about Anne and Shawn’s New England wedding at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead Massachusetts! Eastern Yacht Club is one of the oldest private yacht clubs around the world! Providing not just a luxurious and classy feeling but an elegance like no other! The Eastern Yacht Club was the perfect New England wedding venue for Anne and Shawn as they actually had their engagement session in Marblehead as well, it’s a special place for both Anne and her family!

Not only that but the details were the epitome of classy and elegance! Having the view of the coast in the background during the ceremony with the white chairs and green and white florals with a touch of blue was insanely stunning! I was in awe of the whole entire day and its details! All thanks to the incredibly talented vendors that Anne and Shawn hired for their special day!

New England Wedding Ceremony

What I loved about Anne and Shawn’s wedding was that they opted out on a first look, although this tends to be one of my favorite moments I loved how the first time they saw each other was down the aisle. Whether a couple chooses to do a first look before the ceremony or sees each other for the first time down the aisle I always fall in love with the groom’s reaction to the bride! Both moments are unforgettable!

And don’t get me started on the post-ceremony wedding party portraits! Anne and Shawn had such a big and fun wedding party! Everyone was so happy for the couple. Each photo had at least one person screaming in excitement! And I loved the bridesmaid’s dresses! The baby blue that matched the blue in the wedding florals was gorgeous!

Bridal Portraits at the dock

I honestly could go on and on about every moment and detail of Anne and Shawn’s wedding day but I’ll end with how stunning the bridal portraits at the dock were! If you thought the wedding ceremony was stunning just wait till you see these! The sun was setting in the perfect spot and with Anne’s dress flowing in the wind it looked SO ethereal! She also got to shoot off the canon right at sunset before they let the flag down which was so much fun!

Anne and Shawn’s New England wedding day ended with many laughs and lots of dancing and singing during the reception. It was so beautiful seeing all of their family and friends getting down on the dance floor and having a blast celebrating Anne and Shawn.

It was such a pleasure to capture Anne and Shawn’s wedding day after already shooting their engagement session! I love capturing these milestones in each of my client’s lives and making lasting memories. Both Anne and Shawn were super sweet and easy to get along with, genuinely just down-to-earth and kind people. If you didn’t even know them you could feel this from the energy they put off in a room.

Timeless & romantic weddings.

On June 10th, I was fortunate to be part of Paige and Austin’s union at the Eastern Yacht Club in Massachusetts. Their luxurious, coastal wedding was so dreamy! The sentimental details and traditional influences of their day made their wedding so memorable. It was the perfect celebration of their seven years together, and their new chapter as a married couple.

Our bride’s homecoming made the nuptials even more special. Originally, Paige was raised in Marblehead, while Austin grew up in North Carolina where the couple now resides. In fact, Austin and Paige opted for the club as their venue because the bride’s family, and their wedding guests, are members there! It was such a special tribute to her roots. Plus, it made for amazing photo opportunities! We were able to sneak away for gorgeous waterside portrait backgrounds. Plus, we captured a few photos aboard the boat we used to ferry over to their personal vessel. I will always carry those memories as a stand-out experience!

The magic of the night did not end there. While their wedding day started out with a lucky rain shower, it ended with the most picturesque sunset. It was the epitome of a sought-after golden hour along the coast. Then, of course, came Colors. In keeping with tradition, the Eastern Yacht Club participates in the the time-honored cannon firing at sunset, when the flag is lowered for the day. This gesture has become a sign of respect for ships at sea. This symbolic event traces back to historic naval traditions and the manner cannon-carrying ships once used to communicate their peacefulness to shore. For our purposes, it added to the charm of this gorgeous maritime affair. Even more, it symbolized the end of another lovely summer day. It was such a pleasure to participate in this timeless and elegant coastal wedding. Cheers to Paige and Austin!

Marblehead – Yacht Clubing

A visit to Marblehead’s sailing society

With more boats per capita than anywhere on the planet, Marblehead has long been known as “the sailing capital of the world.”

For those who wish to join the sailing set, Marblehead has a variety of clubs to choose from.

Two of the town’s clubs are found on Marblehead Neck, an exclusive community separated by the mainland by a long causeway that is perfect for jogging or biking.

Founded in 1885, the Corinthian Yacht Club on Nahant Street ( www.corinthianyc.org ) offers a beautiful clubhouse as well as swimming and tennis facilities.

“There’s many things yacht clubs can offer,” says Dave Titus, Corinthian’s clubhouse general manager, “but the view of the harbor we have here is spectacular!”

In addition to their frequent social events and tennis tournaments, Corinthian also hosts special yachting events, including the Trans-At Challenge in September, which brings a squadron of 60-foot boats from as far away as England.

“They’re quite a [thing] to view,” Titus says.

At present, Corinthian has 520 members.

“We have an extremely active membership, which is happy with what the club offers them,” says Titus. “It’s a very friendly community.”

According to membership committee member Jack Frankel, however, the club doesn’t take unsolicited applications.

“It’s a private club and new members are sponsored in a multiyear process,” he says.

Nearby on Foster Street is the Eastern Yacht Club ( www.easternyc.org ) with its six tennis courts and pool.

According to club lore, EYC was started in 1870 by “12 hardy men.” Its halls are packed with trophies, including one that was once carried on the flagship of famed British sailor Admiral Nelson! No wonder, then, that the Eastern has often been chosen to host Olympic sailing trials and many vanguard regattas.

“We consider ourselves a yacht club and try to encourage it at all levels,” says a member who wished to remain anonymous (the Eastern places a premium on privacy).

Across the harbor are the Boston, Dolphin, and Marblehead yacht clubs.

Organized in 1866, the Boston Yacht Club ( www.bostonyachtclub.net ) offers a dining room and bar, commodore’s lounge, and other facilities. And as it is located on Front Street, which runs along the harbor, the BYC also offers an amenity that the Neck clubs don’t.

“You can get dropped off here and walk around downtown Marblehead,” says general manager Mark McMahon, citing his club’s proximity to mainland shops and restaurants.

According to membership chair Martha Quigley, the BYC also requires sponsorship for new members. Even so, McMahon noted, around 20 slots tend to open at the end of each sailing season.

Though it may be difficult for people to gain immediate entrance to some clubs, there are other ways to get into the sailing scene. Among these are getting started early as a member of Marblehead’s youth yacht club, Pleon ( www.pleon.org ), or taking memberships at clubs that do not require sponsorship, meeting others at multi-club events (such as Marblehead’s world-famous Race Week) and then having them sponsor you down the road.

Though the 55-year-old Dolphin Yacht Club on Allerton Place ( www.dolphinyachtclub.com ) has no tennis courts or pool, the view of the harbor is beautiful, the kids’ room is a great place for younger sailors to hang out, and the food (provided by Sylvan Street Grill) is rather tasty. As for membership, it is inexpensive and does not require sponsorship.

“You don’t need to wait 10 years to get in,” says commodore/treasurer Patti Cohen of the club that, for many years, was the only place for Jewish sailors to congregate. And, as the club’s website states, “We are actively seeking new members!”

One caveat: If you want a full boating membership, you need to have a mooring in Marblehead Harbor. There are 1,400 of these and the waiting list is about 15 years. However, you can still be an out-of-harbor member for $350 or a social member for $225. The Dolphin also offers a kayaking membership for small-craft fans.

Lastly we come to the club that takes its name from its hometown. Built in 1878, the Marblehead Yacht Club on Cliff Street ( www.marbleheadyc.org ) is the most down-home of all.

“This is by far the most inexpensive club,” says club manager Steve Karger, who has been a member for 25 years.

With food service Friday through Sunday (the MYC is BYOB), the club offers its 356 members three launches that cover 60 percent of the harbor and a fleet of rowboats you can take to your yacht.

“We’re the mirror image of the Corinthian,” Karger says, pointing across the harbor, “only in this way.”

In philosophy, the club mirrors the Dolphin more closely, as it was the first place Irish-Catholic sailors could join. In 1935, the MYC instituted a policy requiring that  “anybody joining be considered as an individual, not part of a group.”

These days, however, the only “group” that most members want to be counted among is Marblehead’s large group of sailors.

So whether you want cotillions and pool parties or just a way to get to your boat, join the club!

Danielle & Dave's Corinthian Yacht Club Wedding | Marblehead, MA

August 16, 2018.

Danielle and Dave were married on a blue-sky day in June in Marblehead, with the ceremony at Chandler Hovey Park and the reception down the street at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Both Danielle and Dave share long family traditions of New England summers by the ocean, and these two were excited to celebrate their wedding in places that are so meaningful to them and beautiful for their guests.

Dave and Danielle started the day surrounded by their family and friends, who helped them get ready. After donning her gown, Danielle laced up a pair of brightly painted Keds. Dave had told me before the wedding that he admires how Danielle can always find the beauty in everyday things – she’s someone who stops to smell the roses. But I learned on that day that Dave has an eye for beauty too – he had painted the Keds with their underwater scene as a wedding gift.

One of the things Danielle and Dave spent the most time on was creating the ceremony along with their family friend who officiated. They included a knot tying ceremony, using two lengths of rope to create a fisherman’s knot. This ritual has beautiful symbolism, with the individual lines still visible, but the knot becoming stronger under pressure. Following the ceremony, and the rounds of hugs and handshakes, these two escaped for a few golden moments together on the water, taking it all in.

Planning a party that was enjoyable for their guests was a top priority for Dave and Danielle – from the scenic location, to delicious food, and a band that would keep everyone on the dance floor. They kicked off the reception dancing to a slow version of “You Make My Dreams Come True,” and it was a moment that you could really see their connection and chemistry as they danced cheek to cheek.

As Danielle’s older brother offered a toast to the new couple, he spoke about how caring Danielle is and how she brings her family together. He also spoke of Dave’s generosity and thoughtfulness, and the high praise from his children that Dave was going to make a great uncle. One of the things I love most about weddings is seeing families come together – and this toast really brought it home.

Thank you Danielle and Dave for welcoming me into your wedding day and allowing me to document it for you.
