You will be received by our crew at the airport and transferred to the Movenpick Hotel, Karachi. The Suite Rooms feature a king-sized bed with an attached bathroom that offers a bathtub and eco-friendly amenities. Relax in the separate living area or step out and take deep breaths in the private balcony that offers great city views. The suites also come with a minibar, safe, work desk, LCD TV, and controlled air conditioning. Relish the taste of Pakistani delicacies and live folk music at the on-site restaurant called The Pakistani. The eatery offers several unique experiences including freshly baked bread made on request in a live kitchen and traditional baithak-style seating area (floor seating). Over the next 3 days this restaurant will serve you 3 palatially distinct dinner cuisines each representing a geographical region of Pakistan. We have recommended the Sindhi cuisine for your first day with their specialty Palla fish a unique fish that lives in both fresh and salt waters of Sindh during its life and tastes distinct from its head to it tail.

After breakfast, we will take you for an extensive morning tour of the inner city. Our first stop is the famous Saddar Bazaar a bazaar also considered the commercial center of Karachi. Nestled between colonial era buildings and churches, Saddar is the one-stop bazaar for all sorts of commodities and antiquities. The buildings are made of Gizri stone and hint at Gothic and Renaissance revival styles dominant in Karachi in the 1920s. Experience the culinary essence of Karachi at the roadside food kiosks in this area like fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, Saddar boasts dhabas and shops run by families over generations. Walk to the nearby Empress Market and Bohri Bazaar. The Empress Market is another commercial center that hosts kiosks of herbs, spices, and dry fruits here. If you love all things organic, Empress Market is the place you would want to explore. From medicinal, fresh cold-pressed oils for your body to medicinal herbs you probably have never heard of, this bazaar offers it all at extremely affordable prices. We also take a tour of the 140 feet high, Indo-Gothic style clock tower made with buffed and colored stone standing in all its glory at the entrance of Empress Market. Karachi is a converging ground of faith and diversity. Visit Saint Patrick s Church located approximately 4 minutes away (by car) from Empress Market. Experience the spiritual side of the city here and explore this looming structure built in the Gothic Revival architectural style as the city s first church. We drive for approximately 6 minutes from St Patrick s Church to Jinnah Mausoleum and its adjoining museum. Visit the resting place of Pakistan s leader Quaid E Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and explore the history of the nation at the museum. Built to completion in 1971 the mausoleum is a white marble structure with clean bold lines, inspired by modernist designs to reveal purity of color and geometric forms. You will then head to the Tooba Mosque - the largest single-dome mosque in the world with a diameter of 212 feet. Constructed in white marble and onyx the mosque has a capacity to hold 5,000 worshippers. The drive is approximately 15 minutes by car. We have arranged for you a food-tasting tour in the diplomatic area of Clifton which houses 5-6 of the most popular fusion eating concepts and diversity in Karachi s culinary scene. From the rich aroma of French cuisine at Caf Flo to the earthiness of Pan-Asian food at Okra to the traditional burst of spices at Khanji, you experience it all with us. After lunch, enjoy a cup of tea at the posh and popular Chaaye Khana caf , reviving the culture of deep infused tea sipping in Karachi in a genteel ambiance. In the end, we will visit the Mohatta Palace Museum. The palatial structure built in pink and yellow stones in 1927 was once home to Fatima Jinnah (sister of the founding father of Pakistan) but is now dedicated to the arts and hosts art exhibitions. After an eventful day, we return to the hotel for a late dinner at The Pakistani. Continuing your thematic dinner from last night, tonight will be the Mughlai tradition of Punjab. We have recommended the Lachaydar Paratha served with Spring Onion Minced chicken and hand blended lassi.

After breakfast, you will leave for a full-day excursion to Thatta UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We will visit the ruins and heritage sites such as Chaukhandi, Bambhore, and Makli. We will visit Chaukhandi tombs an early Islamic cemetery known for their elaborate sandstone carvings. Located an hour and a half away (by car) from Chaukhandi, the tombs at Makli Necropolis are another must-visit heritage site. Both the tombs are known for their age, intricate carvings, and boast the architectural style typical of lower Sindh. Next we head to Shahjehan Mosque to witness Mughal grandiosity in all its glory. The structure built with brick, marble, and tiles is considered to have the most elaborate blue tile mosaic work in South Asia. You will have lunch at Makli Grill Restaurant after which we will drive to Haleji Lake - a bird sanctuary that is home to many folktales. Your professional guide will tell you the story of two lovers called Sassi & Pannu a Sindhi and Balochi folktale that is associated with Bhambhore since Pannu was the daughter of Raja of Bhambore. The story is one of the seven romances that Sufi saint Shah Latif celebrated in his poetic work on earthly love affairs and divine union. After an exciting dive into the Sindhi Balochi culture we head back to the hotel. You will return to the hotel around 6 pm and can rest at leisure or enjoy an invigorating spa session with the free spa passes we have arranged for you. Let the professionals take care of your knots and cranks. A traditional spread of Pakistani cuisine will be served at The Pakistani over romantic folk music and aromas from the restaurant s live open kitchen. To end your journey at this fine dining restaurant you will be served the best cuisine from Baluchistan. This is the biggest province of Pakistan and has a mountainous and coastal terrain where for centuries meat and seafood have been the preferred diet. We would recommend the Goat Ribs, Northwestern Mutton Karahi, and the Tawa Fry Fish.

KARACHI GWADAR

Time to dial up the extravagance! You will leave after breakfast for a leisurely shopping tour of Karachi. You will visit the posh shopping hubs of Karachi such as Clifton and Zamzama Commercial Area located approximately 10 minutes away (by car) from the hotel. Shop for your custom-made designer wear with the best quality fabrics, dresses, and shoes. Men can also shop for traditional sherwanis or formal suits made of pure quality cashmere or cotton. Ladies can try traditional lehengas and dupattas (stoles) as well as western casual and party wear. We will head on to the Sadar Murshid Bazaar to get your dresses tailored to your exact size. You will meet the tailors, the artisans behind the fashion scene in Karachi. You can create your designs and get your dresses made accordingly to your style statement. These professional tailors will deliver your masterpiece by the next day. After the retail therapy, we will take you to a hidden gem tucked away in the streets of Karachi for an authentic treat for lunch. Let the warm and savory taste of Nihari and piping hot naans (flatbread) take your taste buds for a spin. We recommend having Nihari with a cold lassi drink to beat the spicy high. Later we will take you to Bohri Bazaar to explore the handicrafts, leather goods, and other culturally rich items that the subcontinent is known for. We move closer to the coast and check-in at the Pearl Continental Karachi. It has a classic design and architecture with a bright and lively lobby lounge. And the rooms have a traditional design with detailed woodwork, luxury carpets, and fine furnishings. We will fine-dine at the on-site Japanese restaurant called Sakura also rated as Karachi s best Japanese diner. Enjoy the earthiness of chicken teppanyaki and fresh sushi while you look at the lit-up Karachi skyline.

GWADAR KARACHI

Today is all about the beach! You will check out early from the hotel for a scenic drive to the Turtle Beach. The beach is a popular tourist spot especially in summers when the rare species of Green and Olive Ridley Turtles come onshore to lay eggs. The travel time for this journey is approximately 40 minutes which gives you enough time to familiarize yourself with the rural setting around the beach. You will check-in at your private villas resort at Turtle Beach. It features fully furnished bedrooms, tiled bathrooms, a big lounge, an open first floor terrace, floor to ceiling glass panels 50m from the shoreline, and a common dining area. Go ocean swimming, surfing, sun-tanning, jet skiing or just lay in the crisp sunshine, enjoy your private BBQ, and sip on the drinks being served to you. Hop a camel or a horse to ride and explore the areas around the beach. The areas around are populated with fishermen families so do not be shy to strike up a conversation and know more about the region. An hour before sunset, ride in your jet ski for 12 km to Manora Beach for a special seafood dinner on a local boat. Prepare your taste buds for freshly caught and cooked oysters, crabs, shrimps, and fish caught by the fishermen onboard and cooked to perfection in spices. Enjoy your meal with a view of the vast blue ocean. You will return to your private beach resort in the evening to freshen up and enjoy a private bonfire, savories, beach drinks, and live guitar violin music.

You will get picked by a private yacht from your resort and get your breakfast and savories served in the middle of the sea away from the shoreline and take as many pictures as you want. Get back to your resort, freshen up and drive down to the DHA Golf Club a recreational center in Karachi for the city s elite and posh. Considered one of the largest Golf Clubs in the world, their golf course is spread over approximately 140 acres with an 18 hole par 72 course. There is a golfer s terrace, a pro shop, driving range, clubhouse lounge with dining, cigar room, cards room and an outdoor lounge facing the sea. You will check-in at your private chalet on the golf course site. Test your skills with a game of golf, socialize and spend the day at the Golf Club in luxury and style.

After breakfast, we will head out to visit the Maritime Museum, and the Air Force Museum. The museums are located close to each other, both sprawled out over an open-air museum space decorated with real decommissioned exhibits as well as historic galleries. After visiting the museums, you will check-in at the Pearl Continental Hotel. Enjoy your lunch at Jason s steakhouse for quality veal tenderloin and a serene ambience. If you are still in the mood for seafood, we would recommend trying their shrimp cocktail appetizer and Red Snapper steak with lemon sauce. We have arranged complimentary spa passes for our guests so that you can end your luxurious trip with an indulgent spa therapy session. After the professional rejuvenate your senses, you will do mystic tour of Karachi s most popular shrine - Abdullah Shah Ghazi - to witness the force of spiritual enthusiasm of the people of Karachi. Later we will drive for approximately 40 minutes to Kolachi for a perfect BBQ dinner on the rocks to bid adieu to the coastal retreat. The popular restaurant is located on an elevated platform over the bay rocks and against the tidal waves of the coastline.

The Disappearing Karachi Dinner Cruise

Seafood dinners in Karachi used to be common, but because of waning tourism and dirty waters, they’re slowly starting to disappear

Until the early 2000s, the pier at Karachi’s Keamari harbor was packed with international visitors gingerly stepping onto decorated wooden boats, excited to embark on a sail along the Arabian Sea. Enterprising boatmen would serve up nightly spreads of freshly caught seafood prepared on deck, a culinary experience dubbed “crabbing” by visitors because the meal often involved specialties prepared using the local mud crab. But as time passed, the pier grew littered with trash and crowded with noisy motorboats, and the region lost its robust ­tourism after the events of 9/11. ­Traditional dinner boats have become fewer, and on-boat seafood dining has been ­drastically on the wane.

CRABBING, KARACHI

Saleem Razzaq is well-known in Karachi’s harbor. His dinner cruises, which he hopes will someday be popular again, always feature the local mud crabs.

Saleem Razzaq is still here, though, gazing at the horizon from his boat, which he uses as often as demand allows. Among the most legendary figures in the trade, Razzaq goes by the name Captain Saleem. His family has taken generations of Pakistanis out to sea. "Our ancestors used to say that we are samundari faqir ," he says proudly, " 'fakirs of the sea.' " Even now, with the number of boatmen shrinking due to the interferences in the harbor, Razzaq forges ahead, fearing the crabbing tradition might otherwise be at an end.

Razzaq hopes that, now and then, customers will still be interested in a local boatman’s stories of his ancestors, or those of the spirits haunting the seas.

Pakistanis make up the bulk of Razzaq's clients nowadays, often those who already know of his famed seafood dinners. But even with locals, it's a challenge to get them to endure the city's traffic and make the commute out for a leisurely evening meal. More and more, Razzaq has made himself available to come to them—preparing the same traditional dishes they'd otherwise fix on the boats in the comfort of the diners' homes. Among them are spice-laden patties made from mud crabs and shrimp, a spicy crab curry called ­ karhai , crab-leg "lollipops," and traditional biryani. The taste for seafood is thriving, Razzaq says, even if it's not always eaten under the night skies. He hopes that, now and then, customers will still be interested in a local boatman's stories of his ancestors, or those of the spirits haunting the seas. "We derive our livelihood from the water," he says. "We hope God will do well by us, but we can't say much more."
