The impressive metamorphosis of 105m Oceanco luxury yacht H

Known as 105H during its rebuild, the Oceanco 105m superyacht H (formerly known as Neom & Indian Empress), emerged from her shed on Tuesday night after a transformative refit at its construction facilities in the Netherlands, described by the team as the “relaunch of a completely new Oceanco ''. 

Showcasing a new sleek, contemporary profile, her hull has also been lengthened by 10 meters, likely to accommodate a beach club , with an additional outdoor swimming pool adding to her allure. She also boasts remodeled interiors courtesy of Reymond Langton Design.

In addition to her aesthetic features, the motor yacht has also received upgrades to her technology systems and is fully compliant with IMO’s stringent Tier III safety standards. Furthermore, Oceanco has added enhanced sustainability features in line with the yachting industry's much-vaunted ambitions, to ensure a more positive impact on the delicate marine environment and the planet as a whole.

Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout comments: “To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement. The project has called for passion, dedication, and extraordinary craftsmanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself. We are proud to say that we are relaunching a completely new Oceanco.”

In terms of sustainability considerations for the yachting industry, the impressive rebuild of superyacht H proves that any seaworthy yacht can be transformed and its environmental profile brought up to date to meet the latest technology and safety requirements, not to mention retaining its aesthetic appeal for future buyers. 

It is about seeing the potential for all vessels, rather than starting from a blank sheet of paper each time.

The A Group’s Richard Hein, who acted as the independent owner’s representative for the project, adds: “This almost unimaginable transformation has been able to take place thanks to the shared trust, perseverance and expertise of the team involved. A yacht is more than just the materialization of an owner’s vision. It has its own character, its own specific habitat, with a unique purpose and story. Through the achievements of this project we have been able to extend the story of a remarkable superyacht for decades to come. It is about seeing the potential for all vessels, rather than starting from a blank sheet of paper each time.”

Superyacht H will be delivered to her owners at some point in the near future, but at this stage is not expected to be made available for charter .

The first thing that catches the eye is a large waterfall at the stern, spilling over from the 23-foot-long main-deck infinity pool. It’s a theatrical nod to the yacht’s exterior transformation, which saw 26 feet added to the steel hull at the stern and seven feet to the forward deck line. The extra length accommodates the owner’s request for a large pool aft that is designed with a raising dance floor. It also gives the vessel, originally launched in 2000 as  Al Mirqab , a sleeker, more modern profile. The next owner, F1’s Force India boss and now fugitive Vijay Mallya, renamed it Indian Empress . He was known for throwing extravagant parties aboard.

“The yacht was very boxy before, so we cut the entire superstructure off and rebuilt it to be as sleek as possible,” Jonathan Bevan, Reymond Langton’s exterior designer, tells Robb Report . Bevan also designed H3 ’s two “mini-me” Compass tenders—a 36-foot limousine and 34-foot open sportboat—that look like the mothership.

The owner’s deck and upper-deck aft areas—once used to host large parties for the opening night of the Monaco Grand Prix—have both been reduced in length. Coupled with a new enclosed gym on the sun deck, it gives the profile a more balanced look.

Bevan also eschewed straight lines in favor of contoured bulwarks that run the length of the yacht. “We’ve added a rolling-wave undercut that reflects the surface of the sea below and gives a sense of motion when the boat is moving,” he says.

Another noteworthy feature is the 33-foot-long video corridor. It links the welcome lounge and bar with the main salon, as well as concealing the tender bays on either side. On our tour, a floor-to-ceiling aquarium was displayed, but it can be used for all types of media, from videos to artwork. In the welcome lounge, an LED screen or “tech window” is linked to a camera pointing outside to give guests the choice between a virtual view or normal TV.

The interior has been taken back to the bare skin and designed anew. “A refit of this scale has not been done before. We wanted to create something dramatic and unrecognizable that can be enjoyed by family as well as for entertaining,” Reymond Langton’s interior designer, Elizabeth Kozlova, tells Robb Report .

Custom art runs throughout the yacht, including leather wall panels by Helen Amy Murray, woven metal by Sophie Mallebranche and decorative glass by Bernard Pictet. A palette of ivory and taupe tones combines with fiddleback sycamore, light oak, soft nubucks, and Foglizzo leathers that contrast with bronze and nickel detailing. The en suites and day heads are dressed in light marbles, such as Calacatta Vagli, Crema Delicato, and backlit quartz.

In the main foyer, a round Bianco Lasa marble floor frames a glass elevator that runs from the main deck to the bridge deck. The dedicated owner’s deck has a full-beam stateroom with walk-in wardrobes and an en suite. A private beauty salon and a study can be used as two additional guest cabins. The owner’s lounge has sofas, casual dining for 14, three Lasvit glass chandeliers, and two backlit infinity mirrors on the same level.

The yacht’s gross tonnage increased from 3,045GT to 3,521GT during the rebuild, which gave the designers more room to play with in an already high-volume vessel. They responded with high ceilings, more accommodation to sleep the 32 crew, and a full-beam VIP that serves as a second master, with private use of the bridge deck aft. Six guest cabins on the main deck bring total guest accommodations up to 20. On the lower deck is a destination spa with a hammam and sensory shower, a hair salon, and massage and beauty rooms.

Powered by triple, military-spec MTU 20V 1163 TB93 diesel engines for a massive 30,000 combined horsepower, H3 hit 30 knots during sea trials. That’s an impressive top end for a yacht this size, but then again, everything else about the new H3 is extraordinary.

On 10 January 2023, at a milestone event, a revolutionary superyacht was witnessed at Oceanco’s construction facilities in The Netherlands. H3 has undergone a complete transformation that is practically unprecedented in its scale and nature.

NEW PERSPECTIVES DELIVER NEW POTENTIALS

The yachting world has seen commercial vessels converted into superyachts, and heritage yachts being returned to their original glory, but this is the first time a superyacht has been recreated to face the future as a wholly new, contemporary vessel. The results reinforce Oceanco’s reputation for tackling challenging projects and delivering industry firsts.

H3 displays a modern exterior aesthetic, including a completely new superstructure, alongside a fresh interior by Reymond Langton Design.

The reimagining of this icon calls into question our notion of what defines a yacht. To consider the connection between form and identity, and a yacht’s potential for evolution; taking on new shapes and new meanings.

POSITIVE IMPACT

Aside from her physical transformation, the work undertaken brings H3 into the future with contemporary standards in terms of technology, safety, capability and sustainability. She has an operational profile that is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards, not to mention upgrades to her technological capabilities across the board.

At a time when the yachting industry is increasingly mindful of the impact that newly built vessels have on the planet, it is pertinent to highlight that bringing an existing superyacht’s environmental profile up to date with contemporary standards can have as much, if not more, of a positive impact.

THE GIFT OF TIME

And with delivery windows for new construction projects booked up into the latter part of the decade, the scope of 1050H’s transformation means that she emerges from her launch as an almost completely new yacht. Except in this case, she benefitted from a year’s reduced timetable for completion thanks to the decrease in time spent on engineering and hull construction. All while maintaining her Oceanco pedigree.

“It is our ambition that this landmark project will inspire owners of existing yachts to benefit from the gift of time while adding value to their ownership experience as well as the planet. Through this approach, icons have the potential to become the new faces of tomorrow,” comments Oceanco Marketing Director Paris Baloumis.

The relaunch of 105m mega yacht ‘H’ , also known as Project 1050H, is one of the most exciting and revolutionary yacht industry projects of recent times. Oceanco , the renowned Dutch shipyard, have reinforced their reputation for taking on ambitious and bold challenges on this unique passion project.

Beginning life in 2000, before the industry was so mindful of the environment impact of yacht building, this huge yacht was selected for a complete transformation. The owner’s vision demanded a rethink of the physical attributes but also compliance with the highest modern standards for technology and sustainability.

What Oceanco have delivered in ‘H’ is remarkable, reducing the construction timetable by at least a year, while still maintaining their luxury pedigree. This timesaving, in itself, reduced the environmental impact of the build and demonstrates the possibilities for future owners. Oceanco Marketing Director Paris Baloumis commented at the launch “It is our ambition that this landmark project will inspire owners of existing yachts to benefit … while adding value to their ownership experience as well as the planet.”

Now complete, ‘H’ also boasts a refreshed interior by Reymond Langton Design and a few especially exciting elements including an exclusive owners’ deck, guest accommodation for up to 32 in 16 cabins, elevator, on deck dance floor, full spa and beauty salon and last but not least a piano originally belonging to Elton John.

Oceanco has re-launched the 105m motor yacht H as part of an impressive rebuild project at its construction facilities in the Netherlands. 1050H has undergone a complete transformation and is now a fully contemporary vessel.

The impressive results delivered by the famously experimental Dutch custom yacht builder reinforce its reputation for tackling challenging projects and delivering industry firsts. H boasts a modern exterior aesthetic, including a completely new superstructure, alongside a fresh interior by Reymond Langton Design.

Contemporary standards in terms of technology, safety, capability, and sustainability have been adhered to. H has an operational profile that is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards, not to mention upgrades to its technological capabilities across the board.

Considering the need to improve sustainable practices within the industry, bringing an existing superyacht’s environmental profile in line with up-to-date standards, rather than churning out new builds, represents a move to more environmentally friendly practices.

The rebuild benefitted from a year’s reduced timetable for completion thanks to the decrease in time spent on engineering and hull construction.

The graph below indicates an increase in the average LOA of Oceanco's builds in 2022. Historical data shows that in the last eight years, Oceanco delivered the highest number of units in 2018 and the least in 2020 and 2021.

The H Yacht was built in the year 2000 and has an MTU engine installed in it. One of the best features of this yacht is the fast speed at which it can travel as the yacht has a top speed of 24 knots.

1050H: Milestone Launch Celebrated at Oceanco

10th January 2023 marked a significant celebration of one of the superyacht industry’s most closely-guarded secrets – Oceanco’s Project 1050H. Launched from Oceanco’s construction facilities in The Netherlands, 1050H could be considered neither a newbuild, refit, nor conversion. This has been a fundamental rebuild of unprecedented scale, involving a complete transformation of a heritage superyacht…

Conversions projects have been rightly lauded for their potential to transform heritage yachts, even commercial vessels, into state-of-the-art modern superyachts with significant advantages when it comes to sustainability in the process.

The development of Project 1050H has dared to go further than this. It is the first time a superyacht has been comprehensively recreated to deliver an exemplary, future-proof vessel where no single element has remained the same.

“To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement,” comments Oceanco CEO, Marcel Onkenhout. “The project has called for passion, dedication, and extraordinary craftsmanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself. We are proud to say that we are relaunching a completely new Oceanco.”

The launch of such a project is a testament to Oceanco ’s appetite and ability to perfect the most challenging of builds, setting a benchmark of future innovation in the industry.

The A Group ’s Richard Hein, who was at Oceanco during the original build, acted as the Owner’s independent representative for the project. 1050H displays a modern exterior aesthetic, including a completely new superstructure, with Reymond Langton Design working on a fresh interior.

“This almost unimaginable transformation has been able to take place thanks to the shared trust, perseverance, and expertise of the team involved,” shared Richard Hein. “A yacht is more than just the materialisation of an Owner’s vision. It has its own character, its own specific habitat, with a unique purpose and story.

“Through the achievements of this project, we have been able to extend the story of a remarkable superyacht for decades to come. It is about seeing the potential for all vessels, rather than starting from a blank sheet of paper each time.”

While the staggering physical transformation of 1050H promises a new, head-turning icon on the waters, there is much that should be said for the intricate work that has prepared her to stand the test of time.

1050H has been built to the highest contemporary standards of technology, safety, capability, and sustainability. She has an operational profile that is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards, while also boasting significant upgrades to her technological capabilities across the board.

As the industry confronts the need to mitigate the impact of superyachts on the environment, 1050H highlights the great impact made by bringing an existing superyacht’s environmental profile up to date with contemporary standards.

“It is a proud moment for me to see the nearing completion of this transformation, having personally been involved in returning 1050H to her birthplace for this ambitious project” added Dr Barwani, Chairman of Oceanco .
