A beautiful city in England's Norfolk County

From Norwich take the A1151 to Wroxham. Entering Wroxham, and after crossing the railway bridge and immediately before passing Shell station on the left, turn right at mini roundabout and take road towards Salhouse. After 100 yards, follow the road round to the right and in 250 yards take a left hand turn, signposted to The Avenue and Wroxham Broad. At the T-junction, there is a sign to Norfolk Broads Yacht Club where you turn right into a private drive to the Club. Follow this road until you reach the Club premises. Norfolk is connected to the rest of the United Kingdom by a efficient and modern road network. The M11, A11, A12 and A14 are the major trunk roads from the South, East and London, and the A14, A17 and A47 from the Midlands, the North and Scotland. The journey time by rail from London to Norwich or King's Lynn is around 1 hour 40 minutes, and local services connect Norwich with Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Sheringham. Car and passenger ferries operate daily between Harwich and the Hook of Holland, and Hamburg and Esbjerg, and Norwich International Airport offers flights to / from Amsterdam, Paris, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Manchester, with connection to more than 300 destinations worldwide between them.

Norwich History

Norwich is a city located in the eastern part of England and has a rich history dating back to the Roman times. Here are some key points about Norwich's history:

• Roman Era: Norwich was originally a Roman settlement called Venta Icenorum, which was founded in the 1st century AD. It served as the capital of the Iceni tribe, which was led by Boudica, a famous warrior queen.

The Broads Authority encourages more environmentally-friendly forms of propulsion with reduced charges for electrically powered motor craft and a network of charging points for them.

The electric charging points are operated with contactless cards costing £1 from outlets throughout the Broads. The power outage on each charging point is 32amp and 16amp and the card you purchase can be used for every one of our points. There are a limited number of outlets and no booking system is in place to reserve points.

The electricity units in each £1 card for the period April 2023 to March 2024 is currently 2.9. This figure is reviewed each year (next review approx. May 2024) and reflects the current rate from our electrical supplier.

You will also require a standard caravan hook up plug and cable.

The meters indicate where to hold your card in order to transfer the credit to the meter. The cards are for single use only.

Two idiots on Tuesday evening at the Norwich Yacht Station unroping the Moored up Boats Two of them at 2am which was caught on the security camera being reported in  the Norfolk News paper as police are stepping up patrols for peace of mind to the Holiday Boaters who came to see this this beautiful Norwich city with out fear of being moored up at the Yacht Station over night . I would suggest to using the Mudwight being put out for assurence .

If you moor at the extreme end of the yacht station where there are a couple of electric posts rather than posts there are mooring rings. So tie up through the the rings and then back to the boat, if the warps are long enough then tie off on the river side of the boat so it  is more difficult to untie the boat.

All the posts at NYS have rings welded to the top.

And have had for some considerable time. I can imagine after last night’s success, there was a lot of imbibing resulting in silly antics. If boats had moored as instructed/suggested, none would have been set loose without their occupants knowing.

Until they carry a Stanley knife.  what about fencing in the yacht station and redirect the footpath around. 

technically one end is fenced in, but at the other you can get in, or just climb through the fence in the middle.

That’s where the mudweight will come in handy. 

I know this has happened before but I'm hoping it's a rare occurrence now? I would always use the precautions already suggested in any case.

This is why we always moored with all four ropes tied back onto the boat on the rivers. They might cut one or two ropes but they are unlikely to hang around long enough to cut all four without being noticed. 

We were perhaps just lucky but we didn't have any ropes cut or get set adrift in 13 years of boat ownership despite mooring in some pretty unsavory places at times.

When mooring at the yacht station we have always been advised by the attendants with the advice given above reference the mooring ropes and use of mudweight. These incidents are usually alcohol related but I suspect with clubs still being closed due to Covid then there may have been a drugs use connection.

In addition to extra caution in mooring it is also wise to bring inside deck gear.

If we are able to moor where there is a safety ladder, overnight we thread a rope through the steps and back onto the boat. Foolproof - until that aforementioned stanley knife comes along!

They haven’t been closing or locking the gate recently due to covid. I think it’s about time that changed.

What difference does it really matter.Times I've  seen people go through  the fencing, because  it's not very high and most can get close to boats.

No you are not supposed to cover a safety ladder!!!

I hope you don't fall in and have climb out between a heavy moving boat and a fixed bank then scramble over a mooring rope to get to safety.

I would make that mooring illegal.

I didn't think Vanessan was implying mooring across safety ladder, just trying a rope to it. Very different thing.

I didn’t say anything at all about covering a safety ladder and I’m surprised and disappointed you would immediately jump to that conclusion. It is perfectly feasible to use the hand rails of a safety ladder without covering the steps, in fact with a decent length rope you don’t have to be anywhere near the ladder itself. We would NEVER moor across steps and it really annoys me when people do. It also annoys me when people assume something without clarifying first. 

Sorry for that then, but even posting about tying to a safety ladder would give some the wrong idea.

I must admit when I saw it was you I was surprised.

But you do state a mooring rope through the steps.

So a better explanation from you may clarify what you mean.

I have seen someone trying to get out at Loddon with a boat tied to the ladder, it took 3 of use to help.

As everybody who has actually been to Norwich Yacht Station knows, the security gate there is selectively targeted at 90 year old vandals with bad knees. If that requires an explanation, see pic.....
