SLIDESHOW: After two years absence, Opening Day Boat Parade returns to Friday Harbor
San Juan Island Yacht Club's Opening Day parade was back on Sunday, May 8, 2022. This year's theme was "Back to the Future". Longtime SJIYC member and nationally recognized trainer for America's Boating Club Ann Einboden was Grand Marshall. Prizes are awarded in five categories. Theme, Traditional/Nautical, Classic Wooden Boat, Human Powered and Commercial.

Founded in 1964, the San Juan Island Yacht Club's membership has grown to over 300 active boaters. Our clubhouse is located above the Port of Friday Harbor, 273 Front Street, and is a full service facility with large meeting room, bar and kitchen facilities. The San Juan Island Yacht Club is a cruising club. Our members travel as far north as Glacier Bay and south to the Gulf of California. We sponsor 10 to 12 local cruises each year along with major racing events, the Shaw Island Classic among others. Additionally sailors are invited to participate in the One Design series.

The Yacht Club is an elegant facility for events of up to 150 guests with a wrap-around infinity deck, full bar, dance floor, commercial kitchen and air conditioning.
Located in the heart of Friday Harbor, your guests can arrive by ferry, floatplane or private boat and easily walk to your event, lodging and restaurants for a charming island experience. Your guests will be thrilled to come to the San Juan Islands where they can kayak, whale watch, sail, fish, bike or just explore one of the most pristine environments in the country.
The ceremony can be at the Club or at one of our many beautiful outdoor island venues such as Pelindaba Lavender Farms, Lime Kiln Lighthouse or even a historic sailing ship.
You will have complete flexibility in the logistics of your wedding. The club provides tables, chairs, cutlery and AV technology. You select the caterers and other providers you desire. Contact our events manager to explore your options for designing a magical island experience.

Look like a pro. Protect your boat, your passengers, and yourself with the docking/undocking skills you need.
Docking can be one of the most stressful tasks you can perform, especially if you are a new boater. Learn how to control your boat at slow speed in close proximity to other boats and fixed objects. Learn how to approach the dock in a variety of conditions and safely secure your boat. Learn how to depart the dock in any situation. Understand the use of spring lines, how to safely fend off, and other techniques. With the knowledge you'll gain in this seminar, coupled with your on-the-water practice, your confidence in docking and slow-speed maneuvering will increase and your boating will be both safer and more enjoyable.

The San Juan Island Yacht Club is located on the waterfront in the Port of Friday Harbor with a beautiful view of the marina. It's an easy walk from the ferry and to many boutique hotels. Our facility is available for weddings and receptions, as well as meetings and other events. We can comfortably accommodate up to 150 guests.

On Monday morning May 7, 1964 the group met and started the specific arrangements and, within the month, the San Juan Island Yacht Club was registered as a nonprofit corporation with 102 charter memberships. The Club burgee was adopted on July 16, 1964. By the end of July there were 203 memberships.
