The Top 1,659 Boat Songs To Rock Out To

There is no such thing as a boat day that is silent unless fishing is involved, and back in the day we had to curate lists and prepare endlessly for a boat trip. Today, we have Spotify and Pandora, so we can always get the right vibes and set the right tone for a perfect day on the lake.

Music is extremely personal and is the fastest way to set a mood, on or off the water. Party boat songs are in their own class though, and most listeners’ tastes can be categorized into four groups: bangers, country, classic, or yacht rock.

Behold the top 1,659 boat songs to rock out to:

5. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” – Bob Marley

Bob Marley is known for his soothing lyrics that make you feel like you’re right down in Jamaica with him. There’s nothing better than sitting on a boat, looking out at the horizon, and remembering that all is well.

1. “Sunroof” - Nicky Youre Loud Luxury Remix

Los Angeles-based Nicky Youre writes youthful, romance-filled lyrics in this happy-go-lucky summer song. There’s a reason the song blew up so swiftly - it’s infectiously positive.

2. “Island in the Sun” - Gamper & Dadoni, Conor Byrne

Need a musical escape to paradise? This combination of laid-back beats and tropical sounds creates the perfect summer backdrop to your boating day, whether you’re fishing, partying, or just chilling.

3. “Welcome to Jamrock” - Damian Marley

This classic reggae jam samples an even more well-known hit, “World-a-Reggae” by Ini Kamoze. With an upbeat spin on a timeless throwback, partiers around the world love this jam.

4. “Potion” - Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa

As you drink your potions by the ocean, groove to the sound of energetic beats and intoxicating vocals. Calvin Harris, the master of producing dancefloor-worthy songs, created the perfect “song of the summer” boat party jam with this one. Play it to liven up your bachelorette boat party or to make the most of your Saturday out.

5. “Red Solo Cup” - Toby Keith

Name a better way to bring people together than with the universal red solo cup. As catchy as a nursery rhyme but with lyrics you wouldn’t play around mixed company, “Red Solo Cup” is one of the best party boat songs out there. Play it at your bachelor boat party or a simple weekend get-together.

1. “Pontoon” - Little Big Town

Full of puns and witty lyrics, Pontoon makes you want to drop what you’re doing and rent a pontoon boat with friends. With lyrics like “5 mile an hour with aluminum side

/ Wood paneling with a water slide / Can't beat the heat, so let's take a ride,” it’s a chill country boating song for lower and slower boating days. Pour up your boat drinks and soak up the sun.

2. “No Shoes, No Short, No Problems”- Kenney Chesney

Chesney channels a work hard play harder attitude; we can all relate to wanting to unwind after a long work week, kick back, and chill on the beach. He really said it perfectly: ”Wanna soak up life for a while, and lay back low / No boss no clock no stress, no dress code.”

3. “Buy Me A Boat” - Chris Jansen

Money might not buy happiness, but it can buy a boat…and a truck to pull it. Enjoy your boat ride with a country song that makes you appreciate just being there.

4. “Redneck Yacht Club” - Craig Morgan

Fun is universal and you don’t need a huge, suped-up boat to do it (although yacht rentals can be really fun). This country boating song reminds us that life is what you make it, and it doesn’t matter if you’re boating on rivers, lakes, or oceans - what matters most is being on the water.

5. “Cruise” - Florida Georgia Line

Every boating song playlist needs a sing-songy melody like Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise.” Whether cruising on a boat or the road with the windows down, this country-pop fusion is infectious.

6. “Where The Boat Leaves From” - Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown Band has mastered the summer boating vibe. This one mixes folk, country, and reggae beats, inviting you to escape the daily grind and embrace the tranquil beauty of seaside retreats.

7. “Somethin' 'Bout a Boat” - Jimmy Buffett

The open waters are, as this song reminds us, calming. “Somethin bout a boat” gives you hope - it can take you home, or take you around the world.

8. “Knee Deep” - Zac Brown Band

Another carefree hit from Zac Brown Band, “Knee Deep” paints a picture of blue waters, sandy beaches, and carefree living. Full of easygoing optimism and mellow sounds, it’s a warm invitation to disconnect and enjoy your day on the water.

9. “Lovely Cruise” - Jimmy Buffett

With deeper undertones than most of Buffett’s vacation-vibed songs, “Lovely Cruise” connects the end of one of life’s chapters with the bitter-sweet ending of a trip at sea. “We'll bid our farewells much too soon / So drink it up, this one's for you / Honey, it's been a lovely cruise.”

10. “Water” - Brad Paisley

As a kid, water means inflatable pools and rope swings. As we get older, our “love affair with water” grows up with us, from “Daytona Beach on spring break” or “driving until the map turns blue.”

Songs About Boats and Water

1. “(sittin' on) the dock of the bay“ - otis redding.

What better way to waste time than enjoying a sweet sunset cruise? This song beautifully carries deeper meanings about life, time, and how we spend it.

2. “Son Of A Son Of A Sailor” - Jimmy Buffett

“The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains.” For some of us, boating is in our blood, a family tradition that reminds us where we came from. It’s a lyrical voyage about heritage and freedom.

3. “The Downeaster 'Alexa'” - Billy Joel

Joel’s evocative voice crafts a powerful ode to fishermen’s struggles and resilience. As you set sail toward the horizon, this boat song will provide a motivational and emotional tone.

4. “Sailor’s Lament” – Creedence Clearwater Revival

Inspiring reflection, this song captures a yearning for change. Somewhat somber lyrics with an upbeat classic rock tune make this a good boating song for sailing alone.

5. “Single Handed Sailor” – Dire Straits

The line "Single-handed sailor, go out and get the hidden hoard" evokes a sense of solitary adventure. The song's moody melody and Mark Knopfler's distinctive vocals create a mysterious aura for boat music on the sea.

As you prepare for your day on the water, use these songs about boats and water as a starting point to create your ultimate boating playlist. From upbeat party boat songs to heartfelt melodies of sailors past, our selection embraces the diverse community that makes up the boating world. Happy Boating!

With its infectious rhythm and feel-good vibe, this song is a timeless disco classic that gets people dancing.

4. “Banana Boat (Day-O)” by Harry Belefonte

There are countless covers of this crowd-pleaser, which is based on a Jamaican folk song, but Harry Belafonte's version from 1956 is the one that still rings true to most fans' ears.

5. “Buy Me a Boat” by Chris Janson

While money can't buy everything, it can certainly buy me a boat. Who can resist belting out this sentiment at the top of their lungs?

Visit the Boat Finder

6. “I’m on a Boat” by The Lonely Planet and T-Pain

This song provides satirical commentary on music videos featuring rappers on yachts. While the lyrics are explicit (don't listen to this one with the kids), the catchy hook will undoubtedly stay with you.

Name That Boating Tune

7. “where the boat leaves from” by the zac brown band.

You know the feeling: It's 4:45 p.m. on Friday, your buddies have the coolers stocked with ice and brewskies, and you'll climb over traffic to get to the marina. Because, as the song goes, that's where the boat leaves from.

8. “Pontoon” by Little Big Town

It's hard not to love a song about the everyday boats on lakes across America where families and friends gather every weekend. Three cheers for Little Big Town and their homage to the pontoon .

9. “Orinoco Flow” by Enya

It's hard not to remember this catchy tune, which repeats, "Let me sail, let me sail." Bet your pals $5 that they can't name the actual song title, even if they can sing every word of the chorus.

10. “When the Ship Comes In” by Bob Dylan

The master of poetry and song released this single on his album "The Times They Are a-Changin'." It's forever entwined with the spirit of that era: Dylan and Joan Baez performed it together at the March on Washington in 1963.

11. “Sail Away” by David Gray

You may remember David Gray from his single "Babylon," which hit No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart in 1999. "Sail Away" was on the same album, "White Ladder," with Gray crooning, "Sail away with me honey."

12. “Captain Jim’s Drunken Dream” by James Taylor

No less than Art Garfunkel contributed vocals on this song when Taylor was in the studio recording it. "Shower the People" became the big hit on the album, with this song appearing on side two.

The Real Deal

13. “the downeaster alexa” by billy joel longtime.

Billy Joel enjoys cruising on New York's Long Island Sound, which inspired him to write this tune from the perspective of a fisherman who was having trouble paying the bills.

What Is a Downeast Boat and Is It Right for You?

14. “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot

Commemorating the sinking of a carrier ship on Lake Superior, this song was written with an eye toward historical accuracy. Lightfoot changed some lyrics for live shows after new information about the sinking was uncovered.

15. “Boats” by Kenny Chesney

Chesney sings about Ol' Joe and his Boston Whaler in this song, which evokes the true love of boating that we all feel—no matter how much of a pain in the neck (and back) the boat can sometimes be.

16. “Sinking of the Reuben James” by Woody Guthrie

The USS Reuben James was a destroyer with the sad distinction of being the first U.S. Navy ship sunk in Europe during World War II. In this song, Guthrie immortalized the crew members who died fighting for freedom.

17. “Pay Me My Money Down” by Bruce Springsteen

This originally was a work song that could be heard on the docks, and that later was popularized by Pete Seeger. Springsteen released his version in 2006—on the only album he ever made of material he didn’t write himself.

18. "On The Boat Again" by Jake Owen

When he's not writing country music tunes, Jake Owen loves spending time out on the water. In "On the Boat Again," Jake blends his love for country music with the joy of being out on the water, encapsulating the longing for a picture-perfect day beneath the sun.

Karaoke Jams

19. “ride captain ride” by blues image.

How this song only made it to No. 4 on the charts is a true mystery, given that its chorus, introduced to the world in 1970, is still on the tip of countless tongues today.

20. “Sloop John B” by the Beach Boys

When they took a break from singing about California surfers, the Beach Boys recorded this track based on a Bahamian folk song. It reached number one in numerous countries, including Germany, South Africa, and New Zealand.

21. “I’m Your Captain” by Grand Funk Railroad

At 10 minutes, this is the longest studio recording that Grand Funk Railroad ever did. It's not as long as the 13-minute "Pirates" by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, but it'll do fine for a karaoke finale.

22. “Come Sail Away” by Styx

Go ahead: Try to name another song that has made as many TV show appearances as this one, whose credits include "South Park," "ER," "Glee," "The Goldbergs," and "Freaks and Geeks."

23. “Brandy” by Looking Glass

You may know all the words to this one, but we'll bet you didn't know that Barry Manilow reportedly changed the name of his song of the same name to "Mandy" so fans wouldn't get the two tunes confused.

24. “Southern Cross” by Crosby, Stills and Nash Stephen

Stills based this song on "Seven League Boots," adding lyrics and a chorus about a boat trip he took after his divorce. He says the song is about the power of the universe to heal—something every boater knows to be true.

The 10 best songs for your yachting playlist

Music is the ideal complement to the sound of the wind and the waves whilst sailing or motoring along. But what to listen to? Here is BOAT International 's pick of the 10 best tunes to add to your summer yachting playlist...

Lovely Day – Bill Withers

Kicking things off is the absurdly uplifting Lovely Day . Universally known for its summery groove and life-affirming choruses, the song is an exercise in positivity. The “it’s going to be a lovely day” sentiment certainly holds true when strolling the sun-kissed decks of a superyacht, with nothing to worry about except where your next Long Island Ice Tea is coming from. For those that didn’t know, the 18-second-long note towards the end of the song – “lovely daa-aay” – is the longest-held note in Pop history.

Reelin’ In The Years – Steely Dan

The riff-bending Reelin’ In The Years contains more hooks than most musicians come up with in their entire careers, let alone a single song. Steely Dan’s 1973 hit has a lot going for it, not least the ample opportunity for air-guitar (something best enjoyed a good two metres away from the water’s edge). There’s also something evocative about the reverb drenched solos, perfect for when you’re adventuring miles away from home.

He’s So Shy – The Pointer Sisters

This funk number is everything you could want from a nautical bop. The chorus leaps out at you from the stripped-back verses, and there’s even a synth solo to keep the head nodding. The Pointer Sisters’ “so shy” love interest might be a slight departure from the general perception of superyacht owners, but we’re sure this tune will have you losing your inhibitions on deck when it comes on.

Everywhere – Fleetwood Mac

Does anything trigger a nostalgia trip quicker and more efficiently than Lindsay Buckingham’s sampled Fairlight synthesiser at the start of Everywhere ? A few lines of that glistening backing track and bang, you’re back in the 80s. It might not be the band’s biggest hit, but it’s surely their most enduring, just because it’s so singable . The refrain “I want to be with you everywhere” can be hummed at your partner or superyacht interchangeably, so top marks for that.

What a Fool Believes – The Doobie Brothers

Contrary to their stage name, The Doobie Brothers were all actually rather well-behaved chaps. That said, the harmonies on the What a Fool Believes ’s chorus do have a somewhat transportive effect on the psyche. Even though it’s one of the few songs on this list in a minor key, it definitely won’t stop the party with its stomping rhythm and relentless groove.

Cool Cat – Queen

One of Queen’s lesser-known ditties, this 1982 banger sees the four-piece trade in their fuzzy tones and stadium-rocking vocals for something a bit more relaxed and soulful. If the rumours are true, legendary Queen guitarist Brian May declined to play on the studio version because he hated the ‘new sound’ the song represented. Well Brian, we’re afraid you’re on your own there. Cool Cat sways with playful assuredness and should have everyone on board strutting around with style.

Everybody’s Talkin’ – Harry Nilsson

Part of Midnight Cowboy ’s stunning soundtrack, Everybody’s Talkin’ describes someone’s desire to run away from the city to a more peaceful place. “Sailing on a summer breeze, skipping over the ocean like a stone,” Nilsson, who won a Grammy for this performance, sings. This perspective is one that drives so many to set sail, searching for an easier life among the waves and away from the urban humdrum.

Summer Breeze – The Isley Brothers

Nothing summons that high season excitement quite The Isley Brothers’ rendition of Summer Breeze . The song was originally released in 1972 by Seals & Crofts, but the Isley Brothers’ version two years later just shades it. The mesmerising harmonies that the group launch into, combined with that guitar solo in the tune’s final bars make Summer Breeze a must-have in any playlist worth it's salt.

It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere – Alan Jackson feat. Jimmy Buffet

Lethal in its brilliance, It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere ’s music video sees Alan Jackson strumming a six string on the back of a 24 metre Merritt Boat Works sportfisher named Hullbilly , before joining Jimmy Buffet (proud owner of 15 metre sailing yacht Drifter ) on land for some merriment.

Guilty – Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb

In the first verse, the great Barbara urges the governing class to “make it a crime to be lonely or sad”. We’re all for that. Anyway, it’s quite difficult to be either of those things when you’re lazing on a foredeck sunpad with the ocean breeze gently rippling both margherita and hair. If you were wondering what happens when two of the 80s’ most recognisable voices come together, well, now you do. Pop magic happens.

Ultimate sailing playlist: 20 songs to listen to onboard your boat

  • Katy Stickland

From ballads by Van Morrison and Neil Young to the 80s Duran Duran hit, Rio, and the haunting vocals of Nick Cave, these songs will certainly suit any sailing mood

A still from the music video for one of Duran Duran's songs - Rio

Rio by Duran Duran. Credit: You Tube

In no particular order, this is our sailing playlist. We would love to hear yours! Share it with us at @ybw

‘Into the Mystic’ – Van Morrison

Possibly one of the most iconic songs to sail to.

Van Morrison’s lyrics tell of a sailor heading home to his lover, although there has been much debate as to whether there is a deeper meaning.

Whatever the answer, this warm ballad will certainly get you singing along.

‘The Ship Song’ – Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Named as one of the 30 best Australian songs of all time, The Ship Song is a beautiful, tender ballad, which will leave you with a lump in your throat and have you wiping the tears away before you know it.

It has been covered by the likes of Pearl Jam, Martha Wainwright and Crowded House.

But none of them reach the depths of Nick Cave’s version. Best for a night sail.

‘Lost Sailor’ – Grateful Dead

No list would be complete without a song from the eclectic American rock legends, The Grateful Dead.

Not the ideal song to play if you’re nervous about your navigation or you are adrift, but otherwise a solid classic.

‘Sail On’ – The Commodores

Written by Lionel Ritchie, this Commodores hit from 1979 will particularly resonate if you’ve gone sailing to get over a breakup.

The crew will definitely be belting out the chorus, helping to lift the mood.

‘Sail Away’ – David Gray

In 2001 you couldn’t escape David Gray’s song  – it was being played everywhere!

Years later, and this song of escape has certainly grown on us. Best to listen to while passage planning – it will certainly inspire.

‘Rock the Boat’ – Hues Corporation

Catchy and instantly recognisable, this somewhat cheesy disco hit from 1974 is a guaranteed deck filler – with moves that won’t make the skipper nervous. A great team builder.

‘Sailing’ – Rod Stewart

No playlist would be complete without including Rod Stewart’s international hit from 1975.

The whole crew will be singing along!

‘Ship to Wreck’ – Florence and the Machine

Despite its sobering message, this upbeat indie folk/soft pop rock was a hit in 2015 for Florence and the Machine.

Good for reflective moments onboard.

‘Night boat to Cairo’ – Madness

For when you need to lighten the mood on board, the silliness of Madness is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of even the most hardened crew member.

Might be best to leave the Madness dance moves for dry land though!

‘Proud Mary’ – Creedence Clearwater Revival

Finally a song about an actual boat..or is it?

Originally, John Fogerty of Creedence wrote the lyrics with the story of a maid in mind before Stu Cook introduced the boat aspect. Inspired by a paddlewheel going round on a river boat, Fogerty then wrote the memorable opening chords and the rest was history.

A sing along 1969 classic, and one that any guitarist amongst the crew will be happy to accompany.

‘When the Ship Comes In’ – The Pogues

Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan, after he had trouble checking into a hotel room because of his unkempt appearance (something all long term cruisers can relate to!), When the Ship Comes In has been covered by Peter, Paul and Mary, The Chieftains,  The Hollies and Billy Bragg.

We particularly like this version by The Pogues, as it’s a guaranteed foot tapper, and will get any boat party started.

‘Ship of Fools’ – Robert Plant

This 1988 rock hit from Robert Plant is perfect for the passive-aggressive skipper who is frustrated by his crew.

 ‘Come Sail Away’ – Styx

Impossible to listen to without the version sung by Eric Cartman from the adult cartoon South Park coming into your head.

This eclectic song, which features a ballad opening and a guitar heavy second half, is a great play for those with frustrations on board.

Just hope you don’t meet any aliens on passage! (Styx fans will know what we mean!)

‘If You Were A Sailboat’ – Katie Melua

Perfect for wooing a fellow crew member (although we will skip over the selfish lover part of the song), this beautiful 2007 Katie Melua hit is sublime to listen to. Great for relaxing onboard.

‘Shipbuilding’ – Elvis Costello

Written by Elvis Costello during the Falklands War in 1982, this haunting song, featuring sublime piano and trumpet, still resonates today. For those reflective moments on board while discussing the state of the world with the crew.

‘Single-handed sailor’ – Dire Straits

Guitarist Mark Knopfler wrote this 1979 hit as a tribute to one of the world’s greatest single-handed sailors – Sir Francis Chichester. This has to feature on the playlist of anyone skippering solo.

‘Cripple Creek Ferry’ – Neil Young

Sailor and legendary singer Neil Young’s song, Cripple Creek Ferry has a cheery feel, and is ideal for bringing the crew together.

‘There is a ship’ – Peter, Paul and Mary

Nothing better than the sweet vocals of Mary Travers for when you need a quiet moment on board.

‘A Sailor’s Life’ – Fairport Convention

This traditional folk song from the 1700s is about a young woman searching for her missing lover, a sailor. It has been covered many times, but Fairport Convention’s 1969 version stands out because of the unique way it merges folk with rock.

Despite the sad nature of the song, it is a feast for the ears. A must listen while winding down from watch.

‘Rio’ – Duran Duran

Okay so this song title is about a woman not a boat, but we had to include it not only for Simon Le Bon  who also happens to be a sailor, but just so we could ogle the stunning 70ft ketch with Fife lines used in the music video.

Called ‘Eilean’ – the yacht didn’t fare well after being made famous as a result of Duran Duran’s classic 80s song. It sank while awaiting repairs and had to be salvaged and then was abandoned. Decades later she was lovingly restored.

And for those who prefer something more traditional, there are plenty of sea shanties to choose from.

The album cover showing a man in rough weather

Uffa Fox sings songs of the Salty Sea or Uffa Sings Sea Shanties and Jack Ashore Songs are both classics!

Or if you are a fan of the spoken word, then ‘The Alec Rose Story’ Lively Lady features the famous globe trotting sailor narrating his voyages set to orchestral music.

Whether you want a song to listen to on a boat or a song to remind you of life on the romanticized high seas, these country songs are a good fit. Following are the top 10, in reverse order—no life jacket required. Imagine you're with your sweetie on a serene blue lake, an expansive bay where you can see for miles, or way out in the ocean , waves crashing, sun high in the sky. Lean back, shut your eyes, and take a listen.

Darryl Worley: "Tennessee River Run"

Darryl Worley knows how he likes to spend his weekend, and it isn't getting started on some of that yard work, cleaning and organizing the garage, or having dinner with the in-laws. Released in 2003, the song reached #31 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

Kenny Chesney: "Boats"

Kenny Chesney loves the feeling of liberty he gets from being on H20. That's why he calls boats "vessels of freedom" and, yes, "harbors of healin'." "Boats" was released in 2008 on Chesney's "Lucky Old Sun" album.

Lyle Lovett: "If I Had a Boat"

Lyle Lovett is a lawn-chair surrealist in this song about a man who has it all: a boat, a pony, and a pony on the boat. Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and Tonto each make cameos. The sea lends itself to daydreaming. The 1988 song was part of Lovett's album, "Pontiac."

Guy Clark: "Boats to Build"

Guy Clark  is fed up with the daily grind. Now he's set to go the way of Noah in this take-this-job-and-shove-it gem. "Boats to Build" was the title track on Clark's 1992 album.

Zac Brown Band: "Knee Deep"

Zac Brown Band and Jimmy (Buffett, as if you had to ask) take a boat for a permanent vacation to a tropical destination. It's a move that isn't exactly original, but it sure is pleasurable. This song reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in 2011.

Little Big Town: "Pontoon"

Little Big Town 's party barge is ready for boarding, and the grill's ready for a fiesta "in slow motion, out here in the open." You really should catch this scene. "Pontoon" was a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in 2012.

Jimmy Buffett: "Lovely Cruise"

Jimmy Buffett  has a lot of great songs about boats, ships, and sailing. Among them are "A Pirate Looks Forty," "Boat Drinks" and "Son of a Son of a Sailor." But this one is particularly, well, lovely. "Lovely Cruise" is featured on Buffett's famous "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" album from 1977.

Craig Morgan: "Redneck Yacht Club"

Learn what happens when a trailer park gets its water wings. Don't miss the music video for this Craig Morgan boat-burner. The song peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in 2005.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: "Fishin' in the Dark"

According to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band , there's always a good excuse for going out on a boat at night when nothing but you and the fish are out. Oh, and maybe your baby, too. Wait, are we talking about fishing here? This was a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart back in 1987.

Alan Jackson: "Chattahoochee"

This boating song gives the title to Alan Jackson 's 1992 album. For the man in this song, swimming on the riverbank of the Chattahoochee is where you learn "a lot about livin' and a little 'bout love." A No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, it reached No. 46 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Throwing a Yacht Rock Party: The Essential Guide

Planning the yacht rock party.

To plan your ultimate yacht rock party with style and ease, you need to start with setting the date and time, creating the guest list, choosing the venue, and creating invitations. These sub-sections will ensure that you have everything in place to host an unforgettable event.

Setting the Date and Time

Planning a Yacht Rock party? Here’s a 4-Step Guide to Setting Up the Date and Time:

  • Check Guests’ Availability: Online poll? Ask them directly? Pick a date that works for everyone.
  • Weather Forecast: Keep outdoor fun in mind. Check the forecast before confirming.
  • Sunset Timings: Natural lighting will add to the ambiance.
  • Location Availability: Make sure the venue is free on the chosen date and time.

Summer is perfect for water activities. But be careful of the heat! Aimie learned this the hard way when she planned her friend’s 50th birthday party. So, after shifting to October, the party was a success – drinks, views and jazz music! Remember: invite those who can hold their drink. We don’t need any yacht wrecking balls!

Creating the Guest List

Organizing a yacht rock party requires a perfect guest list! Here’s what to remember:

  • Invite people who love yacht rock music and can groove to its smooth tunes.
  • Gather pals who enjoy being on a boat or yacht – it’ll up the party experience .
  • Choose guests with a good sense of humour – they’ll keep the energy positive !

Make your party stand out with theme-based invitations that look like old album covers .

My first yacht rock party had someone who wasn’t into slow-tempo music. It was awkward! Now I’m more mindful when creating guest lists. Check if they’re genuinely into yacht rock before inviting them – it’s essential for a fantastic party!

Choosing the Venue

Organizing a yacht rock party? Selecting the right venue is key! It’ll set the tone for the whole event and provide a backdrop for your guests to make memories. Here’re some factors to keep in mind:

  • Location: Choose a spot that’s easy to reach and with plenty of parking.
  • Ambience: Look for a place with a nautical theme or waterfront views.
  • Capacity: Make sure it can fit all your guests comfortably.
  • Amenities: See what amenities are available, e.g. catering or A/V equipment.
  • Budget: Think about how much you can afford and choose accordingly.
  • Availability: Book ahead to secure the date and time.

Keep in mind that you want to create an immersive experience for your guests. Add special touches like decorations or hire live musicians to bring your theme alive. Plus, did you know that there’s a Yacht Rock Radio channel on SiriusXM ? Tune in on your way to potential venues for some inspiration. Finally, don’t forget to send out invitations that scream ‘yacht rock’ !

Creating Invitations

Make your Yacht Rock extravaganza perfect with the right invitations. Here’s five steps for creating them:

  • Select a design that fits the theme.
  • Include all important details, like time, date, and location.
  • Get creative with pictures and taglines.
  • Save money by sending digital invites.
  • Set a RSVP deadline for a headcount.

Reflect the fun and relaxed vibe with personal touches. Draw illustrations or write notes!

Before the event, ensure everyone’s received their invites. Make follow-up calls or send reminder emails.

Create unforgettable Yacht Rock party invitations now! Add drinks for the perfect sailing success – just don’t mention the icebergs.

Yacht Rock Party Essentials

To throw an unforgettable Yacht Rock Party, you will need the right essentials. This is where the section on “Yacht Rock Party Essentials” with “Music Selection, Decorations, Dress Code, Food and Drinks” comes in. Each sub-section will provide you with all the necessary ingredients to create the perfect Yacht Rock Party atmosphere.

Music Selection

For a successful yacht rock party, music selection is essential! It’ll transport guests to the 70s and 80s , helping them relax and forget the modern life. Here are some tips:

  • Start with the classics – Get the nostalgia going with iconic yacht rock anthems from Hall & Oates, Toto, and Michael McDonald .
  • Variety is key – Include jazz-funk, AOR (Adult Oriented Rock), and soft pop sounds for diversity.
  • Cover versions – Bring a fresh twist to the classics by seeking out unique interpretations from lesser-known artists.
  • Instrumentals – Encourage guests to mingle and chat with instrumentals from big names like Jeff Lorber Fusion or Dave Grusin .
  • Ending on a high – Uplifting tracks like Christopher Cross’s “Ride Like The Wind” or Kenny Loggins’s “Footloose” will leave them feeling upbeat.

Live music entertainment or a DJ can keep guests from hearing the same songs on repeat. Pre-plan playlists to guarantee all genres and sparkly rhythms. Get inspiration from curated playlists online provided by expert DJs like Spotify or Tidal .

Transform your yacht into the ultimate love boat with disco balls and a life-size cardboard cutout of Michael McDonald !

Decorations

Transform your Yacht Rock Party into an unforgettable event! Decorations are vital. The right colors, lighting and props can create the perfect atmosphere.

  • Inflatable palm trees set a tropical vibe.
  • String lights evoke the classic soft rock feel.
  • A disco ball in the middle takes guests back in time.
  • Mix standees and life-size cutouts of popular yacht rock singers around the party area.
  • Choose comfortable outdoor furniture for seating.
  • Include nautical elements like compasses, maps or boat ropes.

For extra fun, include hula hoops and vintage record players. Plus, a photo booth with props linked to famous yacht rock songs & lyrics! Dress like you’re in a Christopher Cross music video and get all the decoration essentials you need!

Stressing over what to wear to a yacht rock party? Don’t worry, it’s not so tricky. The 70’s smooth and laid-back vibes are key . Oversized shirts, boat shoes, or loafers to add a chic look. Bell-bottom pants for a casual style. Accessorize with circular glasses or aviators. Add a captain’s hat or sailor’s cap for bonus points!

Bold patterns, like Hawaiian prints or nautical stripes, will help you stand out . Comfort is key – go for lightweight materials like linen and cotton.

Grooming is important too! Clean-shaven for the men and beachy waves or braids for the ladies . Bronzer and lip gloss to finish off the look.

It’s an opportunity to get wild and creative. Have fun and let loose ! Start planning your outfit now and get ready to sail through the night!

Food and Drinks

No explanation needed – this is for a human writer!

  • Try to keep the tone light and fun. This is meant to be a playful activity.
  • Emphasize the prize for the winner – a captain’s hat and bragging rights until the next party.
  • Mention that this is something that can be done with a group of friends/crew – it’s a social activity.
  • You can mention a few popular yacht rock tunes (e.g. “Sailing” by Christopher Cross, “What a Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers, “Steal Away” by Robbie Dupree) as examples.

Play ‘Name that Yacht Rock Tune’ with your crew. Winner gets captain’s hat and bragging rights until the next party! This fun and social activity is perfect for those who love yacht rock music. Try to guess the song name and artist as soon as possible. Some popular yacht rock tunes to try could include “Sailing” by Christopher Cross, “What a Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers, or “Steal Away” by Robbie Dupree. Get your crew together and see who comes out on top!

Entertainment and Activities

To make your yacht rock party entertaining and memorable, you need to plan the right activities. In order to achieve this, the section on Entertainment and Activities with Karaoke, Photo Booth, Games, and Activities as solution will provide you with fun ideas to keep your guests engaged throughout the event.

Karaoke is a blast for parties or gatherings! Pick from various songs and genres to sing your heart out. Enhance the experience with stage lighting, costumes and props. Buy or rent a karaoke machine, or get apps to have your own karaoke night at home. Not just solo performances – friends can join in for duets or group numbers.

One unique thing about karaoke is that it’s fun and doesn’t require any musical training . It’s a great way to express yourself, build confidence, and make enjoyable memories with others. To up the ante, try wearing costumes or using props related to the song you’re singing!

Photo Booth

Photo booth is a must-have at any event – birthday parties, corporate gatherings or weddings! Here’s why:

  • Get instant prints to take home.
  • Customize with backdrops, props and print designs.
  • Integrate with social media to share pics easily.
  • Fun for all ages.
  • Some even offer unique experiences like slow-mo videos or animated GIFs.
  • Create a themed photo booth for added fun.

At my cousin’s wedding, I was surprised at how much cheer the photo booth brought. Trying out the props and making funny poses was great! But my favorite moment was when all my cousins huddled up for a big group picture – made possible only because of the photo booth!

Games and Activities

Searching for something to keep your guests entertained? Here are some cool Games and Activities that can add fun to your event!

  • A photo booth with props and backgrounds for guests to take pictures.
  • A themed quiz or trivia game based on current events, pop culture, etc.
  • Relay races or obstacle courses for teamwork and communication.
  • DIY craft station where guests can make personalised mugs, jewelry, etc.
  • A scavenger hunt with clues hidden around the venue for guests to solve.
  • Total Wipeout style sweeper arm hire is a sure way for plenty of laughs.

Make your party unique by hiring entertainers such as clowns, belly dancers or comedians . Board games lower blood pressure too (Source: University Of Edinburgh)! Don’t forget to check out our yacht rock party checklist – smooth rock and sailor hats are the perfect combo for sailing.

Yacht Rock Party Checklist

To throw an unforgettable yacht rock party, you need to have a comprehensive checklist in place. This guide will help you with the necessary preparations for a successful event in this section, ‘Yacht Rock Party Checklist’ with ‘Audio Equipment, Lighting, Tableware and Utensils, and Personal Items’ as sub-sections.

Audio Equipment

For that yacht rock party of a lifetime, quality audio equipment is a must. Here’s what you need for crisp sound:

  • Outdoor speakers
  • An amplifier/receiver
  • A streaming device

Don’t forget the extensions cords and surge protectors , so all your gear stays powered up.

Good audio is only half the battle – lighting is essential to get that ‘yacht rock’ feel.

So start planning a night to remember with friends and family. Get the best audio equipment for your yacht rock party now!

Lighting for your yacht rock party? Endless options! Bright whites and cool blues will make your guests feel breezy. Accent lighting creates a mood and keeps guests engaged. Add some unique touch with Edison bulbs or colourful paper lanterns . Spotlights to highlight beautiful features of the yacht. Don’t forget lighting for safe navigation after the sun sets.

A friend once had a yacht rock party with warm-coloured light fixtures . Cozy ambiance with purple and pink lights plus porthole windows with natural moonlight – magical evening! Plastic champagne glasses too – nothing says ‘yacht rock’ like pretending to be fancy.

Tableware and Utensils

When it comes to hosting a yacht rock party, tableware is just as important as the music and decorations. You want your guests to be transported to the era of smooth sailing. So, opt for classic white porcelain plates and gold flatware . This elegant combo will give your table a touch of sophistication, while still staying true to the theme. Don’t forget the wine glasses and champagne flutes – yachts need bubbly!

Add nautical elements like blue and white striped napkins or sailor knot coasters . For an extra special touch, incorporate seashells or miniature sailboats as table decor . Pro Tip: Use soft lighting like votive candles or string lights to set the relaxing ambiance of a luxurious yacht party. Don’t forget your captain’s hat – you gotta look the part!

Personal Items

Heading out to the sea? Here’s a list of must-haves for your yacht party: Sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, swimsuits, towels, a camera, an extra set of clothes, a power bank, and insect repellent . Remember: pack only necessary items!

I once made the mistake of forgetting sunscreen and ended up with a nasty sunburn! Learn from my mistake and enjoy a memorable time on board. And when you’re done, simply throw all the empty bottles and cheese plates into the ocean – the sharks will take care of the rest!

Cleanup and Post-Party

To clean up after your yacht rock party with ease, the essential guide has got you covered. In this section, you’ll learn about disposing of trash, returning rentals, and sending thank you notes – all simple yet crucial tasks to complete after a party. Stick around to make sure your post-party is stress-free.

Disposing of Trash

Split your trash into recyclable and non-recyclable before throwing it away.

Compost leftovers and organic waste to cut down on landfill rubbish.

Always use strong, un-tearable bags for garbage.

Donate usable items instead of discarding them.

Don’t forget! Poor disposal of trash can be a health hazard and environment hazard.

Also, weigh the bags before throwing them out. Some local governments have fee structures based on weight.

For big events or parties, plan ahead for trash removal to avoid last-minute stress.

Plus, returning rentals is much easier than returning a bad haircut – just make sure to vacuum up the glitter!

Returning Rentals

It’s critical to follow protocol when returning rentals. Check for any damages or missing items before you give them back. Here are some points to keep in mind:

  • Inspect rentals for damage or missing items.
  • Return all items in the same condition you got them.
  • Go back to the original spot or designated drop-off point.
  • Use a rental transport service if needed.
  • Stick to the guidelines and deadlines in your rental agreement.

Trouble can arise if you don’t return rentals properly. So, be sure to follow all steps and procedures.

Pro Tip: Snap photos of the rentals before returning them. This can help if any disputes arise. Plus, send a thank you note – it’s polite and might help cover up any puke stains in the plant pot.

Sending Thank You Notes.

Show courtesy and respect by thanking your guests after a party. In today’s digital world, a handwritten thank you note can make someone’s day. Here’s how to write the perfect one:

Writing thank you notes takes time and effort, but it’s always worth it. Use high-quality paper and pen to express your personality. If someone did something extra special, send them an extra-special thank you note with a token of appreciation.

Pro Tip: Hand-deliver your thank you notes to make your guests feel even more appreciated.

Spring signals the start of the yachting season on the Côte d’Azur, with the Cannes Film Festival opening the show. From May, the Riviera lights up as A-list celebrities descend to see and be seen at arguably the most glamorous film festival in the world. The best parties are, of course, on board the most exclusive superyachts, berthed in the marina right next to the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals.

Magicians or musicians, club singers or cocktail slingers, we can add sparkle to any occasion

Further along the coast, Monaco glitters with seven centuries of regal heritage. The iconic Port d’Hercule is within champagne-popping range of the gilded principality’s world-renowned gourmet restaurants, A-list clubs, and designer boutiques. Sport is also a favourite pastime in Monaco, and the principality hosts several popular events including the Formula 1 Grand Prix in May.

As evening comes, the parties begin

Chartering a superyacht trackside at this event provides not only the best vantage point for you and your guests to watch the action, but also puts you right in the thick of the action where you can literally smell the gasoline and burning tyre rubber from these amazing cars. Burgess has the right contacts to also get you into the pit lane, rubbing shoulders with the drivers before the race, and partying afterwards at the Amber Lounge.

Despite its reputation as the  Balearics ' party-island, Ibiza has more recently evolved to be among the Mediterranean’s most glamorous charter cruising grounds. The vibe throughout the summer season is all about lazy lunches, diving off deck in secret coves, and losing yourself in the rural countryside inland. The White Isle as Ibiza is known, also offers the waterborne visitor an almost unrivalled selection of beach clubs.

There is no cooler way to arrive at Ibiza's fabled beach clubs

Arrive in style by tender and join the glitterati enjoying the sunshine and sunset accompanied by chilled music before heading back on board to celebrate in style. Alternatively, as the sun sets and the vibe picks up a beat or two, head to Ibiza Town’s effortlessly cool hangouts where you can dance until dawn to the world's best DJs.

St Barth is without a doubt the New Year’s Eve capital of the Caribbean. Always a haven for celebrities at any time of year, the island brings in the new year with impromptu New Year’s Eve 'boat hopping' parties and stops at the many beach bars that dot the island. As the clock ticks towards midnight, step up on deck aboard your superyacht for a front row seat to the kaleidoscope of fireworks exploding over Gustavia Harbour.

Ring in the New Year in impeccable style

This French-speaking island is perfect for a lavish New Year’s Eve celebration. Think cocktails on deck, al fresco dinner with friends before cranking up the sound system to celebrate the passing of midnight. Expect relaxed, short-distance cruising as you island-hop through the Leeward Islands in the days following the celebrations. What better way to kick off your year than this?

Harbour Island, Bahamas

The Bahamas offers a variety of activities for parties aboard and ashore. From local restaurants, hanging out with friends at a lively beach bar, or your very own private sunset beach party, whatever you choose to do, the Bahamian culture will facilitate, with festivals, music, dancing and colourful parades continuing into the early hours. 'Fresh up' and enjoy life Bahmian-style.

The Bahamas is a blaze of bold colours and laid-back lifestyles

Harbour Island has recently come into the limelight with the arrival of a handful of chic new places recently opening on the island. With its pink-sand beach and pretty pastel cottages, the shoreline provides a perfect backdrop to sunset cocktails on board, followed by a trip ashore to a party at the legendary Vic-Hum Club. The oldest nightclub on the island, the open-air dancefloor at this humble yet iconic destination has attracted celebrities the world over.

Choosing the right yacht

From the crew to the layout, the facilities and even the décor, there are many facets of a yacht that, when combined, will influence the success of a superyacht party. The most successful charter yachts lend themselves to any type of occasion, be it a cocktail party or formal dinner party.

Some yachts and crews lend themselves to entertainment better than others

No matter what the style of celebration, there is a yacht to suit every taste. Likewise the crew can make or break a celebration, whether because they can theme any party in a creative way, or simply because the six-star service and smiling faces will give the party the right vibe.

Birthday parties, anniversaries, retirement, there's always a reason to celebrate

Burgess yachts with bars

Whether celebrating, drinking sunset cocktails, a pre-dinner drink or watching sports events, the bar on a yacht is generally one of the focal points on board a superyacht. They come in many forms, ranging from wet bars on the sun deck to sit-up bars in the beach club, sky lounge bars and cosy saloon bars, backlit-onyx bars, and elegant marble-top bars.

Have fun with a theme

Nothing says party more than people dressing up, and themed parties are almost always popular among charter guests. They create memorable experiences – even more so when the yacht is decked out in appropriately themed decorations.

A themed event adds theatre and means everyone gets into the spirit

From an elegant James Bond-themed evening, perhaps with poker and blackjack tables set up, to a retro-style '60s party with a dancefloor and appropriate playlist, or Pirates of the Caribbean, they can revolve around just about any concept imaginable.

A '60s theme comes with a deliciously groovy soundtrack

For those cruising in the Caribbean, consider a pirate party involving all the family. Many crews are well known for the creativity and polish of their themed parties. While keeping the younger guests entertained with a treasure hunt on the beach, you can enjoy sundowners on the sand.

A pirate theme comes with all sorts of fun narratives, treasure hunts and battles

Back on board enjoy drinks on the sun deck before dining al fresco on the main deck. If you're having a larger bash in port, have your pirate outfits sent ahead and the yacht dressed with pirate paraphernalia. Canapes and rum cocktails can be served in treasure chests!

Why are pirates called pirates? Because they Arrr!

While in the Mediterranean, perhaps cruising around the  Greek islands , a toga party might involve some Greek cuisine followed by dancing, and then a movie night under the stars with Mamma Mia or My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding on the big screen. Or while in Cannes, a Bollywood party, or in Monaco why not throw a Mexican fiesta during the Grand Prix?

A Mamma Mia party while cruising the Greek Islands? Why not!

Poolside parties

On the larger more modern superyachts spa pools are generally a given these days, and although some may be limited to a sun deck jacuzzi, the largest of the charter yachts usually have all manner of water features, ranging from infinity pools with waterfalls, glass-bottomed pools, swim-up bars, and pools with counter currents.

And then you have the real party yachts, with swimming pools that turn into dance floors, and built-in DJ booths for the ultimate occasion aboard. The 73m  TITANIA , for example, hosts her guests around the pool deck bar with seating for up to eight guests, and another four seats inside the pool itself, all complete with a DJ set up to create a real pool party atmosphere.

Consider your guest list

Whether your party is a small and intimate affair or a large, quayside event, most yachts can accommodate up to 12 guests while cruising and hundreds more while berthed alongside, when different rules apply.

However, understated elegance is key, with fewer guests and more quality time to socialise. In fact, 100-120 guests is often considered the tipping point of human intimacy and interaction, so keep this in mind when considering a larger gathering.

In port regulations allow yachts to welcome many more guests

Entertainment

Entertainment systems have always played an important role in the overall yacht party experience. Audio-visual technologies have changed significantly over the past decade, and the most successful charter yachts feature the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art and fully-integrated entertainment systems throughout their guest areas.

A tiered cinema and surround sound make sure everyone gets the best experience

From indoor and outdoor entertainment facilities, and the latest audio-visual equipment (including on-demand movies and music systems available throughout all guest areas and strong Wi-Fi for streaming), to private cinema rooms and outdoor cinema set-ups, almost anything available on land is also possible at sea.

An outdoor cinema screen delivers movies under the stars

Music and speakers

Music is an essential part of any party, and whether you prefer the dulcet tones of Adele during dinner or the pumping beats of a live DJ set during a dockside party, music always sets the tone. Surround sound systems for yachts with their own dedicated cinemas have become the norm, while built-in speakers on the party deck are fine tuned to deliver the best possible audio quality regardless of the musical genre.

Most charter yachts take sound quality very seriously indeed - the best of everything

Some yachts have a dual-purpose feature - a sun deck, for example - that transforms into a party deck after dark and music entices guests from open-air dining on the bridge deck below to party upstairs. Live bands are no longer de rigeur, instead world-famous DJs can be booked by your Burgess charter broker to come on board and play their set for your guests, with some big names keen to play private gigs.

A sun deck nightclub could welcome the biggest names in clubland

Gourmet dining with your own personal chef is obviously one of the principal attractions of any charter vacation, but however delicious the dishes may be, how your meals are presented will have a huge impact on the overall dining experience.

Why not bring a Michelin-starred celebrity chef on board for a private dining experience?

An al fresco or formal dining set-up large enough to seat the number of guests invited is of course a must. For larger, cocktail events, a few different open-air dining options are better suited. The trend for celebrity chefs catering for such large events is on the rise, working hand in hand with your own superyacht chef to create the ultimate tasty menu to wow your guests.

Huge swathes of guest deck space make for stellar entertainment

For some, proximity to the ocean is a must, so why not dine in a yacht's beach club right by the water’s edge. The 62m  BATON ROUGE , for example, features an ocean-level beach club that incorporates lounging areas and easy access to the water by day, and transforms into the ultimate al fresco dining area by night.

A huge beach club, like BATON ROUGE's, can really make a charter, day and night

Alternatively, many modern yachts feature Teppanyaki grills – perfect for guests looking to experience something a little different in a tropical climate. Plus you and your guests get the chef's table experience with wonderful dishes prepared before your very eyes and served straight from the grill.

A Teppanyaki grill adds a touch of theatre to any meal

The raised aft deck seating area aboard the 56m MY SEANNA can be converted into a dancefloor complete with state-of-the-art sound. There's also a backlit bar and lounge/dining area on the bridge deck, a 10-person spa pool that has its own bar, and a beach club at water level.

Helipads present the ideal option for a dancefloor and a huge jacuzzi to cool your feet afterwards

The aforementioned 73m  TITANIA also features a beach club, complete with sauna, which can then be converted into a nightclub to continue celebrations into the night. You could even have your make-up and hair done in the yacht's beauty salon before the evening celebrations begin.

TITANIA's beach club transforms into a nightclub after dark

Special touches make it memorable

Details make all the difference. Ambient lighting, an attentive crew, the quality of sound or the welcome cocktail, the most successful and memorable superyacht parties are those where the crews have gone the extra mile. The occasions will usually dictate the type of party and the style.

Tablescaping is just one way of elevating your entertainment experience

For example, an anniversary celebration might have a more romantic theme, with soft lighting and candles, and elegant crockery and flowers all adding to the intimate sense of occasion. A New Year’s Eve celebration or birthday might however require more of a fun or risqué theme. Whatever you want, it can be done.

Romance is in the air! It's impossible for love not to blossom

Most of the yachts in the Burgess charter fleet are designed for entertaining, with guest areas outstandingly assigned to allow for all manner of occasions according to desire. The yachts in the selection above are just afew of those recommended by Burgess charter experts as welcoming celebrations.

How to Host a Yacht Party.

How to Host a Yacht Party

party on a yacht song

A yacht party is a fantastic change of pace from dinner at a restaurant or a backyard cookout. Yachting isn’t a common thing for a lot of people, so there’s a natural excitement built into the event, even if the boat never leaves the dock. All you have to do as the host is play into that vibe, and you’ve got yourself a successful event.

Discover yacht rentals near you— Only at Boatsetter

One of the best things you can do when inviting guests to a yacht party is to inform them in advance about general etiquette aboard a boat. Friends who are landlubbers will not know, for instance, that it’s customary to leave your shoes in a dock box before boarding a boat.

Tell them ahead of time that their feet will be on display so they can get a pedicure, buy a cool pair of socks or invest in a little toe jewelry to feel comfortable throughout the party. They’ll also appreciate the pro tip of wearing shoes that are easy to slide on and off without having to sit down and deal with laces or straps.

A group of friends on a yacht at sunset.

And, for yacht parties during the day, encourage your guests to dress for the sun. Have sunscreen on board to use, and offer helpful suggestions like bringing a hat, a light shirt to cover easy-burn spots like shoulders and the back of the neck, and perhaps linen pants or a sarong for legs that don’t see the sun too often. Polarized sunglasses also help stay comfortable throughout the day on board.

Think bigger-picture about how people should dress: if your yacht party is during the day, then your guests might bring a small bag of clothes for later; you’ll need a place on the yacht to put those bags. Your yacht party may extend into the night, which means there could be a big swing in the temperature, so encourage guests to bring clothing that can be layered on and off.

If the party will include the boat leaving the dock, then advise your guests about the golden rule of remaining upright: one hand for you, one hand for the boat. Yes, you can carry a plate of hors d’oeuvres or a cocktail in one hand, but whenever the boat moves, you always want one hand free to grab a rail, a handhold, or anything else you might need to steady yourself. Helping new boaters stay safe underway should be priority one!

A group of friends on a yacht.

In terms of hosting, think about serving a steady array of finger foods instead of a big, sit-down meal. The little stuff is easier to store and cook quickly, and it’s a better option to offer people a variety of foods if the boat is moving since some people may be a bit more sensitive than others.

Skip the things that come on skewers (those little sticks never end up in the trash, and they can poke bare feet if they end up on deck ). Instead, think about crudites, bruschetta bites, and boneless wings that leave no refuse behind.

Also, have soft drinks such as ginger ale and lemon-lime soda on hand to help soothe any bouts of seasickness . Ginger is another well-regarded remedy and can be served as a chewable or in a cup of iced tea.

Sometimes, yacht parties are themed, with everything from steel-drum players to belly dancers aboard for entertainment. Swim parties are, of course, a go-to favorite, as are “Under the Sea” parties with a seafood spread. You can go with a color, or a lack thereof, such as an all-white party, or encourage people to wear Hawaiian shirts for a Polynesian night .

A group of friends swimming off a yacht.

Music is a must. So don’t forget to create a playlist to go with your theme. It’s hard to go wrong with boating standbys such as Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, and the Beach Boys. More than a few great singalongs have started with “Rock the Boat” by the Hues Corporation or “Banana Boat (Day-O)” by Harry Belafonte.

Yes, that last suggestion is about as polar opposite as you can get from “Under the Sea,” but that’s the beauty of a yacht party. It can be anything you want it to be.

Best of all: you don’t need to own a yacht to throw a party on one. You can rent a yacht for a half-day or full-day and host your party on the rental instead! If you happen to be one of the lucky few who own a yacht, you can list it and rent it out to the large market made up of people daydreaming about their day out on a yacht or hosting their own yacht party.

Boatsetter is a unique boat-sharing platform that gives everyone— whether you own a boat or you’re just renting — the chance to experience life on the water. You can list a boat , book a boat , or make money as a captain .

At Least 2 Are Stabbed on a Party Boat in Brooklyn

Three people were hospitalized, including a man who was struck in the head with a bottle, and more than 1,000 passengers were evacuated, the authorities said.

Two ambulances parked at the Brooklyn Army Terminal near a ship called the Cornucopia Majesty.

By Erin Nolan and Eliza Fawcett

Two men were stabbed and another was hit in the head with a bottle on a crowded party boat in Brooklyn on Saturday evening, the authorities said.

The men were hospitalized with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, police and fire officials said.

The police said the attacks forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 passengers from the boat, a cruise ship called the Cornucopia Majesty , which was docked at Pier 4 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

A 32-year-old man was stabbed in the torso, a 40-year-old man was stabbed several times in the chest and abdomen, and a 28-year-old man was hit in the head with a bottle, the police said. All three men were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.

The stabbings happened just after 5 p.m., the police said. No arrests had been made as of Saturday night, and it was unclear how many attackers had been involved.

The police said they believed that a dispute had escalated into a physical altercation, but that the events leading up to the stabbings were still under investigation.

Just before 8 p.m., the group that organized the party, BYFAR Entertainment, posted a statement to social media .

“Unfortunately, a crime scene developed by the pier, which has caused the postponement of the night event,” the company said. “We will have updates on a later date so just hold on tight with us while we sort everything out. BYFAR Entertainment has always been a beacon of safe events in New York City and this rare occurrence has never been the norm with us.”

In the hours before the fight, the Cornucopia Majesty had hosted a party .

Passengers said in interviews that they had enjoyed dancing, eating and drinking rum aboard the ship, but by early evening, they were standing confused on the pier, surrounded by police cruisers and ambulances.

Glendon Thomas, 29, a resident of New Jersey, said he and several friends realized a fight had broken out on the ship only after they disembarked.

“I saw a guy laying on his friend,” he said, adding that the friend appeared to have a wound on his chest.

Kevaun Whitely, who lives in Brooklyn, said the fight had broken out as a large crowd of rowdy partygoers — many of whom had been drinking alcohol — attempted to disembark through the same door.

“It was like a stampede,” Mr. Whitely, 27, said.

The police kept Mr. Whitely and several other people on board the ship for hours as they checked identification, he said.

“I’m glad we got out safe,” he said, adding, “I hope nobody passed away from all this craziness.”

Boca Bash 2024: 5 things to know about party on Lake Boca: Boating, booze and bikinis

party on a yacht song

The Boca Bash is a once-a-year boating extravaganza held on Lake Boca Raton in, you guessed it, Boca Raton .

The city of Boca itself has no official involvement with putting on the annual water gathering, and the state actually has jurisdiction over Lake Boca.

And once again on Sunday, thousands of eager boaters, jet skiers, kayakers and paddleboarders are expected at the event. Typically, it draws anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 participants on the water.

But make no mistake — the Boca Bash is all about boozing and bikinis.

THE BOCA BASH: The event, with no real organizer, has taken on a life of its own and is back this weekend

Here are five things to know ahead of Sunday's boat party on Lake Boca Raton:

The Boca Bash: The boat party gets wild... like really wild on Lake Boca Raton

Police agencies emphasize that safety is of utmost importance, especially when boating and drinking intersect. One peril of the event is the possibility of a boat crash into another vessel. With so many boats in the water at the same time, it's easy for a collision to occur or even death.

Often it turns into an aquatic demolition derby or, at the very least, Costco on a Saturday morning.

And that often will prompt aggressive behavior and fighting, which leads to even more problems.

More on Boca Bash: Check out the best images from wild boating party on Lake Boca Raton

The Boca Bash: Is drinking on the water illegal?

Drinking on the water is legal in Florida, but operating a vessel while intoxicated is not and state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers will patrol throughout the day, ready to issue multiple citations and boating violations.

In 2023, FWC, which is among several agencies expected to be patrolling the waters, arrested 18 people on charges of boating under the influence. Five other calls were for medical assistance.

In 2022, authorities charged nine people with boating under the influence, one for using a fake ID and another on an out-of-county warrant.

THE BOCA BASH: Lawsuit: City didn’t control ‘wild’ event, leading to man's drowning

THE BOCA BASH: How did it start? The mysterious origins of Boca’s wildest boating bash

A man died at the Boca Bash in 2018

A 32-year-old man attending the water party drowned in 2018 . West Palm Beach's Francis Roselin had gone missing the Sunday afternoon of the event, and another swimmer noticed him at the bottom of a shallow part of the Intracoastal Waterway at about 5 p.m.

Authorities pulled Roselin from the water and placed him in a marine-unit vessel. Medics attempted CPR as Roselin was transported to the boat ramp, where he was pronounced dead.

THE BOCA BASH: Policing the event cost $45K. Someone died. There’s little Boca can do.

The Boca Bash: Is Lake Boca a lake?

Lake Boca is not very deep and water in many parts is only knee- or shoulder-high, which is good for those who might fall in.

However, it is not easy to anchor because boats often find nothing to grip except soft sand. Boats can often drift. The inlet will lead to a channel of more active water, which eventually flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

What day is Boca Bash? Plus, the weather forecast for boat party

Boca Bash is always the last Sunday in April, which this year is Sunday, April 28.

For Sunday, April 28, the weather is forecast to be 80 degrees under partly cloudy skies in Boca Raton. Winds will be moderate for boating conditions from the east at 15 to 25 mph. The threat of rain is low and humidity will only be around 60 percent.

But even with partly cloudy skies, boaters are advised to wear a lot of sunscreen. With plenty of skimpy swimsuits, skin will be exposed quite a bit and the UV index will be a 9 (out of 11), which is one notch below extreme.

And that sunscreen should be applied all day at numerous times as the sun won't be setting officially until 7:51 p.m.

Drunk driver in Michigan birthday party crash that killed young siblings, 4 and 8, charged with murder

Ambulance near Swan Boat Club in Berlin Charter Township, Mi.

An intoxicated driver was charged with murder after crashing into a Michigan business where a child's birthday party was being held and killing two young siblings, authorities announced Tuesday.

Marshella Chidester, 66, hit a building at Swan Boat Club in Berlin Charter Township around 3 p.m. on Saturday. It came to a stop 25 feet inside where the party was taking place, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough told reporters Saturday.

In an arraignment hearing Tuesday, Chidester was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing death and four counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious injury. Her bond was set at $1.5 million. If convicted, Chidester could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

Zayn Phillips, 4, and his sister, Alanah Phillips, 8, were declared dead at the scene, Goodnough said in an update Monday. The sheriff's office previously reported that Zayn was 5-years-old.

A third sibling survived with “severe injuries," according to Andrew Brodie, the superintendent of Flat Rock Community Schools, an area public school district.

At the arraignment, Bill Colovos, an attorney for Chidester, said she has a history of epileptic seizures in her legs and lost control of the car when she crashed. He also said that his client only had one glass of wine four hours before the crash, according to a search warrant executed at the bar where she allegedly was.

"This is not a monster," Colovos said about his client, adding that she doesn't have a criminal history. "It’s horrible what happened, absolutely horrible. I have two children. It's absolutely horrible. But some things we don’t have control over."

Chidester was seen in court with a cast on her right arm, wearing a striped white and black prison uniform.

Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffery A. Yorkey refuted the claim that Chidester had a seizure during the crash and said that "her blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit." He didn't mention what her blood alcohol level was.

"There is no indication, whatsoever, in any of the evidence that we have uncovered in this case, that the defendant suffered from a seizure at the time of this incident," Yorkey said during the hearing.

"She indicated herself that she had some seizure issues and she was on some medication, and that she wasn't supposed to be drinking, but admitted that she had been drinking that day," Yorkey said.

A woman who identified herself as the grandmother of Zayn and Alanah spoke at the arraignment, accusing Chidester of drinking and driving.

"She chose to drink and drive and she took my grandbabies from us," the woman said.

A woman who identified herself as the aunt of the two children said she was at the scene of the crash, and saw her niece and nephew in their final moments.

"They walked into that birthday party having a fun time," she said. "They were sitting at that table, eating, and this woman crashed her car through this building, destroying all of our lives. Not just my family, everyone else that was in that building."

She says her other nephew and her sister, the children's mother, were hurt in the crash and are still fighting for their lives.

"I had to be the one to tell my sister her babies were gone when they removed her ventilator yesterday," the woman said. "She said 'How am I supposed to live without my babies?'"

"No one should ever have to go to a birthday party thinking that they’re gonna die," she said tearfully.

Zayn's birthday was coming up next month, according to Monroe County Undersheriff Joe Hammond.

"We were supposed to be planning a birthday party for Zayn, not a funeral," the child's aunt said.

Approximately 13 others were injured in the crash, Goodnough said on Saturday. Nine of those people, who range in age from 11 to 66-years-old, were hospitalized, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Five remain in critical condition, including an 11-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old woman and a 31-year-old woman.

The four other victims, who range in age from 57 to 70, had minor injuries. A 42-year-old man also received treatment on his own for minor injuries.

Chidester's next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.

Monroe Co. woman charged with murder in boat club crash that 'took those babies from us'

Monroe — Distraught relatives of two young siblings killed by an alleged drunken driver at a birthday party at a boat club lashed out at the suspect Tuesday in a Monroe County courtroom, accusing her of taking "those babies from us," while the woman's attorney suggested she suffered from a seizure that contributed to Saturday's crash.

Marshella Chidester, 66, showed little emotion as the aunt of the two children who were killed, Lana Phillips, 8, and Zayn Phillips, 4, addressed the court before Chidester's bond was set.

“She chose to drink and those were my grandbabies. She made the choice to get in that car, and she chose to drink and drive, and she took those babies from us,” grandmother Kathy Phillips said.

Chidester, a former commodore of the Swan Boat Club in Berlin Township where the crash took place, was formally charged in Monroe's 1st District Court with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing death and four counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious injury. She faces up to life in prison if she is convicted.

At her arraignment, Chidester limped into the courtroom with her right arm in a splint.

In an unusual move during the arraignment, District Judge Christian Horkey allowed relatives of the crash victims to address the court in person and via Zoom before setting bail at $1.5 million for Chidester. Some blared out comments via Zoom.

Bill Colovos, Chidester's attorney, said his client believes she had a seizure at the wheel Saturday and said she does not remember entering the parking lot of the boat club or anything that happened leading up to the crash. He said she was invited to the birthday party by the person hosting it.

"She was meeting her husband at the birthday party at the boat club … and all of a sudden, she said 'I blacked out, I remember nothing,'" Colovos said Tuesday evening.

Colovos said Chidester has a history of epileptic-type seizures in her legs that result in paralysis, including one last fall in which she blacked out. Chidester has since been treated for seizures, Colovos said, and has not had any since she was put on medication last year until Saturday.

Colovos said Chidester was barred by her doctor from driving for six months. The attorney said in court Tuesday that she was put on medication in November, which would have made her ineligible to drive until next month. Colovos told The Detroit News in a follow-up conversation that treatments began Oct. 1, when the original blackout episode occurred.

Colovos didn't specify a name for her condition in court but told The News Tuesday evening that Chidester was treated for neuropathy — a condition in which the peripheral nerves to the feet are damaged, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association. After the diagnosis, Chidester's doctor put her on medication and didn't allow her to drive until the end of March, Colovos said.

The biggest cause of neuropathy is diabetes, according to the APMA. Other causes include alcoholism, arthritis, heredity and advanced age, according to the medical group's website.

Monroe County Prosecutor Jeffrey Yorkey said there was no evidence Chidester had a seizure the day of the crash.

A “very long investigation,” including a breath test, indicated she was significantly over the legal limit of 0.08. He did not say what Chidester's blood alcohol content was but said she admitted to drinking.

Yorkey requested that Horkey, the judge, set Chidester’s bond at $1.5 million, noting that friends and family told investigators she has a “very severe substance abuse issue.”

Colovos said they do not have the results back from the blood alcohol test yet, and the preliminary breath test Chidester took on the scene is not admissible in court because it's often inaccurate.

Colovos also said earlier Tuesday that Chidester had no record and was retired, living a “peaceful life.”

“In 60 years on this earth, she’s never had any traffic involvement. She’s never had any law enforcement involvement,” Colovos said. “It’s horrible what happened, absolutely horrible … but some things we don’t have control over.”

Someone on the Zoom feed interjected as the attorney was speaking in court and said, “She shouldn’t have been drinking.”

Raquel Smouthers, Lana and Zayn's aunt, also said Tuesday that even if Chidester was on medication or had medical issues, she should not have been driving.

“Nobody should ever have to go to a birthday party thinking they’re going to die,” Smouthers said.

She added that the two deceased children couldn't have an open-casket funeral because of the injuries they suffered.

"I cannot close my eyes at night without seeing them babies and what they look like," Smouthers said between sobs.

Lana and Zayn's older brother and mother were in critical condition after the crash, according to a GoFundMe set up by the children's aunt, Diane Harrington. Their mother, Mariah Dodds, filed a lawsuit Monday against Chidester and the bar police said she was drinking at before the crash.

Chidester crashed into the Swan Boat Club in the 6000 block of Brancheau in Berlin Township at about 3 p.m. Saturday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Her vehicle landed 25 feet into the building, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said.

“The scene was described by first responders as extremely chaotic, with high levels of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident,” Goodnough said at a Saturday night press conference.

The party was being held for a 3-year-old at the club, said Detroit attorney Jon Markos, who is representing Dodds.

The boat club was closed Sunday, according to its website and Facebook page, and is usually closed Monday and Tuesday.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to this family and everyone else that was involved," said the boat club's post. "That family has asked us to post their go fund me to help with the funeral arrangements for the two children."

Benetti's M/Y Triumph out at sea

When it comes to luxury yachts, Benetti is the leader in the industry. It attracts the very wealthy titans of industry, be they financiers, tech innovators, sports superstars or music and fashion icons, and even fictional action heroes. Think James Bond. Think Beyonce and Jay Z on the Mediterranean, who have chartered Benetti’s mega yacht the Lana replete with helipad, pool, gym, cinema room - a mansion on the high seas. Think footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic who treated himself to a 34-meter Benetti Oasis 34M model.

Benetti has an incredible nautical history. It continues to be a leader and innovator in the yachting sector 150 years after it was founded in Viareggio, Italy. A new book from Assouline entitled Benetti celebrates the sailing history of the company, filled with lavish photographs that would make even those who are new to the boating world drool and fantasize about owning a mega yacht.

Below Benetti/Azimut’s chair Giovanna Vitelli shares some insights on the company, catering to the super rich and the future of luxury yachts.

Benetti's new book celebrates the company's incredible nautical history.

How does the yacht client differ in terms of wants and needs from region to region?

The customization of a Benetti yacht is based on the lifestyle of each individual owner. It reflects the owner’s personality, dreams, and needs, even though there are cultural requests that vary from region to region. For instance, for US owners, a frequent request is a large bar paired with barbecue on the upper deck. Some clients might request extensive wine cellars, while others need a full-on office space to get work done while onboard. A spa, a larger space to store water toys, a gym area, and so on…

Who is the Benetti client? What do they expect from a yacht?

A Benetti client is elegant and sophisticated, most typically a man typically in his fifties. Owners are now trending typically 10 years younger than before. Of course, we are still talking about very wealthy and successful people, but unlike the past, where yacht ownership may have primarily symbolized opulence, today's owner seeks something deeper - a private space for special moments to share with family and friends. A floating home, with all the personal comforts, to enjoy a closer connection with the sea.

How do you anticipate the rapid advancements in technology given that it takes years to complete a yacht?

By investing. We started investing in technology more than 20 years ago when my father created an internal R&D department aiming to reduce fuel consumption. Since then, the guiding principles of the Group's product philosophy have been innovative exterior and interior design for the creation of a new onboard lifestyle, while reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption, both of which are consistently reflected in our yachts.

An example of technology applied to design is our innovative OASIS DECK®: two highly engineered lateral wings that can open while at anchor to enlarge the outside area in the stern, creating a "beach area" on the water. This revolutionary system was designed in collaboration with the UK-based RWD studios before COVID, and anticipated the need that arose during the pandemic to connect with nature. The enlarged stern also features an infinity pool seamlessly integrated into the flush deck. We have created a new, informal lifestyle onboard with this transformative design – and the OASIS DECK® has been a big success in terms of sales.

The interiors of the main salon of Benetti Oasis 34M series.

Where do you see the yachting industry heading?

There is a noticeable trend in our industry: a younger clientele compared to just five years ago, with a more conscious approach. Sustainability should no longer be merely a marketing pitch within the industry, and we, as leaders, feel the need to drive this change. Yacht owners are increasingly embracing the concept of mega yachts constructed using durable, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient technologies, resulting in reduced carbon emissions.

The next objective is to further optimize consumption and emissions generated by onboard systems. This subject is especially relevant to larger boats, which spend around 90% of their time at anchor. Benetti has begun to address this by developing the “Zero Emission Hotel Mode” powered by fuel cells and advanced power management systems, including solutions to reduce air conditioning energy consumption by up to 50%.

Additionally, for our use in tests, sea trials, etc, we have turned to HVOlution (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), produced by ENI, a biofuel made entirely from renewable raw materials. Our recent tests recorded a reduction in well-to-wake CO2 emissions from 60 to 80%, compared to a yacht of comparable size powered by fossil fuel.

What have been the most out-of-this-world request you’ve ever had for the outfitting of a boat?

We have added things like a wood-burning pizza oven and a flower refrigerator. We’ve done a copy of the Sistine Chapel fresco over the dining table on a Benetti yacht.

How do you marry the tradition and history of Benetti with the increasingly modern world of today?

At Benetti, our goal is to blend our rich heritage with the utmost in design and engineering. Take, for instance, our models like the Motopanfilo 37M, which pay homage to maritime history while adding a touch of modern flair. The traditional 1960s aesthetics are reimagined for a modern lifestyle by renowned talents such as Lazzarini & Pickering. Our collaborations extend beyond the nautical realm to include designers and architects from diverse backgrounds, like Bonetti/Kozerski, whose expertise in luxury brands (such as Donna Karan and Tod's), hospitality, and the new Pace Gallery in New York has been seamlessly applied to Benetti’s OASIS line.
