Yacht Club 916: Sacramento’s Newest Hard Hitters?

yacht club 916

It’s not uncommon to see new cars & coffee-style events pop up on a regular basis. What is uncommon though, is seeing one with aspirations as high as those set by the founders of Yacht Club 916 .

“Eventually it’s going to become a paid club that has private events and rallies alongside public ones. Sort of a country club with some amenities for club members,” Hudson, a.k.a. @voituremedia , told me. He wasn’t joking either.

yacht club 916

Their first show, set at the fairly picturesque historic Loomis Train Depot, drew a pretty astonishing crowd for a show that’s just in its infancy. Bugattis, Ferraris, BMWs, and even two Ford GTs rolled through the small streets of Loomis on their way to the show. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen used car dealerships with less variety than this.

The two founders, Hudson and his friend Tyler ( @tyler_fasani ) are still in high school, but you wouldn’t know that from the way they ran this show and just carry themselves in general. I think there is a certain assumed identity that comes with being a car enthusiast in high school. People tend to assume that if you’re passionate about things on four wheels at that age, you’re up to no good, an image that sideshows have likely played a part in perpetuating. While that may be true in some cases, in the same way that there are sometimes clouds in the sky, these two thankfully defy that stereotype.

yacht club 916

“We thought there was a hole in the car scene in our area that needed to be filled, and we thought that it would be the perfect opportunity especially since we’re both fairly young and have lots of time to establish it,” Hudson said. “We also saw there is nothing like it in the area so it would most likely spark interest in people.”

And that’s exactly what makes a successful business. Finding a niche that nobody in your area is serving and doing it so well, nobody can take your place.

yacht club 916

“Honestly man, we just wanted to get a really fun show going. The area is perfect for it with plenty of amazing cars,” Tyler added. “We really just saw the opportunity to have a car show and add these entertainment factors to it so we took it.”

Lofty goals can’t succeed without a lofty presence and while that may not yet be the case in terms of followers and audience, the brand identity is spot on. A gold-on-black typeface, a combination of thin, minimalist fonts and elegant, cursive ones served alongside imagery of exotic cars is exactly the kind of “air” you want to exude in this kind of establishment. Throw a fancy company car in the mix and you’ve got the perfect recipe for making this idea really take off. Or set sail, if we’re keeping with the nautical theme.

yacht club 916

Oh and speaking of the nautical theme, the name refers to luxury cars, often called boats due to their large proportions, and the overall exclusive nature that a “yacht club” offers. Will there be actual yachts involved at some point in the future? I wouldn’t be surprised and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing how this evolves. You go guys!

  Welcome to the

Capital city yacht club  .

CCYC is Sacramento's enthusiastic club of fun-loving recreational boaters.  We're glad you stopped by and hope you spend a moment to check out our web-site. CCYC 's primary mission is FUN.  A dramatic departure from the formalities and rituals of a traditional yacht club, CCYC is dedicated to the satisfaction of its members' spirit of fun and enjoyment on the water.  So no matter if you're a salty old veteran or a newcomer to boating, we welcome you to catch a glimpse of the fun that's had on the rivers and sloughs of Sacramento as a member of CCYC .  If you like what you see, inquire about becoming a member by visiting the membership section and visit  our Facebook page   !!

Originally founded in 1993 under the name Walnut Grove-Capital City Yacht Club. Shortly after that, it became officially just “Capital City Yacht Club,” Capital City Yacht Club (CCYC) is now 100+ members strong and growing at a fast pace.  As of 1996 CCYC has been accepted into the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA), an association of reciprocal yachting clubs. CCYC was the first club accepted into PICYA in the second century of that organization. Based out of Sacramento Marina, CCYC is a organized as non-profit corporation with the traditional array of Officers and Directors.

While CCYC does not maintain an official club house facility, the club is based out of Sacramento Marina, which is also referred to as Miller Park.  On any given summer weekend you can find a good number of members at "Potluck Beach" which is located on the American River about 1 mile upstream from Discovery Park (where the Sacramento and American rivers meet).  Look for boats flying the CCYC burgee, most of which will be rafted-up in the river near Potluck Beach  or be stern-ended into Potluck Beach.  Make sure you stop by and say "HI".

About the Sacramento Yacht Club!

The Sacramento Yacht Club is the oldest boating organization in the Sacramento River-Delta region. SYC's official founding dates to 1929, with roots reaching back to rowing clubs in the 1800s. The club called several locations homeport, but in 1947 purchased a former Navy barge and used it as a clubhouse for more than three decades. In the 70's the club moved to its present site in West Sacramento, replacing the barge with a permanent facility mid-decade. The 4,400 square foot SYC clubhouse, includes a bar, dining room and full commercial-size kitchen. The marina occupies about five acres of land, stretching along nearly a quarter-mile of riverfront, with space for over 100 boats. Formally beginning with the Opening Day boat parade in May and climaxing with the Bay and Blue Water Cruise in late summer, SYC stages a cruise virtually each month, often to other yacht club's or marinas. Some cruises have themes but many are just opportunities to be on the water and eat and drink with friends. The annual 4S Cruise, over 60 years old, brings together members of four river-delta yacht clubs. Naturally, just as SYC cruises to other clubs, so do flotillas from other clubs congregate in our marina from time to time.  The most obvious benefits of belonging to the Sacramento Yacht Club are participating and enjoying the club atmosphere, and the privilege of docking one’s boat in the region’s finest marina and use of SYC facilities. While an interest in boating is the common thread of SYC shipmates, there are dozens of purely social events each year, some related to a cruise and some staged at the clubhouse. While cruising dominates the SYC calendar during the six-month-plus boating season, the off-season slate of activities includes many events, such as Happy Hour, TGIF and Monday Night Football meals.

yacht club 916

SYC members enjoy reciprocal privileges at many yacht clubs throughout the world. Reciprocal privileges are a courtesy extended by individual yacht clubs that includes, usually, use of facilities and low or no-cost berthing.  Applicants must be sponsored by 2 members and must have attended at least 1 social function. Sponsors read applications at monthly membership meetings and the application must be approved by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors. Boat ownership is not required, but there is a percentage limit for non boat-owner memberships. Beyond the formal requirements, there is a community of members that participate in events and voluntarily participate to maintain our much loved facility. Always accepting AWESOME people! Click here for application information.

New Cape Coral Yacht Club designs: Most on council like a coastal, Key West vibe

yacht club 916

Given three different design options for the new Yacht Club Community Center , most of the Cape Coral City Council is leaning toward a coastal, Key West-flavor architecture.

At a committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday, the city sought direction from the council on a design direction for the outside of the community building.

"It's a concept, just like we do with anything else, and as we are designing, things may come up that we want to shift and be nimble (on)," said Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn.

James Pankonin with Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, presented the information about the look of the community building.

Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park, which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has been a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s but is set to undergo major renovations after Hurricane Ian delayed the original plans .

The current plans include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.

The city is also preparing for the demolition of the Yacht Club and its facilities in April as it awaits permits.

No estimates could be provided for the price of the new building.

"It will really come into how much of certain materials are needed and construction methods," Ilczyszyn said.

The city will have that information once they have 30% of the construction design.

Two public meetings for the designs are planned for April 2 and May 7.

After getting public input, the city will vote to amend its contract with Kimley Horn to approve all these changes.

The plan is to have these changes approved or introduced before the summer hiatus.

New Designs for the Yacht Club building

John Bryant with Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors, a Sarasota-based design firm, said the goal with the new designs was to maintain the experience of the original Yacht Club.

The majority of the council preferred option one.

Design one:

Bryant described the first option as "coastal vernacular" and similar to the park buildings at Lake Kennedy and Yellow Fever Creek.

"So it's sort of informed by the current architectural work in 2024," Bryant said. "Kinda Key West."

Councilmember Dan Sheppard and Mayor John Gunter preferred option one.

Gunter said the design was the most pleasing for him.

Councilmember Keith Long liked option one and said he liked the Key West aesthetic.

Councilmember Tom Hayden liked option one.

Design two:

Option two is more informed by the current Yacht Club and would have a stone base and mid-century feel to it, according to Bryant.

"There's certainly opportunity to kind of further develop this option to have even more of the existing Yacht Club feel, but a different vibe, feel than option one," Bryant said.

He also said option two might be more expressive the closer they try to recreate the aesthetic of the old ballroom building.

Councilmember Jessica Cosden liked design two as it incorporated design elements of the old building though she lamented how similar it looked to the first design.

"I wish we could have done more, but I know it's hard with a two-story building, to make it look the same as a very unique one-story building.

Councilmember Bill Steinke said two would be his choice as well, but was wary of additional maintenance of natural wood products used in the design.

"As long as we can bring that aesthetic and keep the maintenance down, number two would be my choice," Steinke said.

Councilmember Robert Welsh said he could go either way, but he liked the look of two.

Design three:

This would be more contemporary and modern.

"Even with a more contemporary language, you can still have warmth, incorporating some wood elements and stone elements," Bryant said.

None of the council members expressed any favorability for the third design.

Inside the new community center

The Community Center will have an additional 10,000 square feet for a total of 47,000 square feet, a history room to remember the first ballroom building on the first floor, and more rooms for civic and community use on the first floor.

Additionally, the new ballroom has shifted slightly as the balcony area on the second floor has been expanded to wrap around the top of the building.

The first option had a “Key West, old Florida” architectural style. The second option was based on the existing yacht club building, and the third option was a contemporary architectural design.

“Yacht Club” Jordan x Jayson Tatum: All Details About Celtics Superstar’s Signature Silhouette

T he recent matchup between the Orlando Magic and the Toronto Raptors saw 21-year-old Paolo Banchero arriving on the court in style. The Magic power forward had signed a sponsorship deal with the Jordan brand back in 2022. Since then, he has been showing up on the court donning the latest sneakers that Michael Jordan’s decades-old brand released. This time, Banchero showed up on the court donning a pair of “Yacht Club” Jordan Tatum 2s. Jayson Tatum himself reacted to the post by dropping an emoji.

It’s a rare sight to see Michael Jordan allowing his name to be connected with another NBA player on the products of a brand that has reportedly made him a whopping $1.5 Billion. However, with an average rating of 23 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, Jayson Tatum is not just any player. With that in mind, the following article will take a look at the newly released Jordan Tatum 2s.

What are the Jordan Tatum 2 shoes?

Jayson Tatum has been involved in a partnership with the Jordan brand since June 2019. It wasn’t until eight months later when the Celtics star got the chance to release his first-ever signature shoe with Jordan, titled the Tatum 1. Three years after a successful launch, Nike decided to partner up with the player again. According to Nike’s official website, the Tatum 2s are “rooted in the motion and emotion that drives Jordan Brand’s approach to basketball shoe design.”

Just like many of its earlier products, the sneakers are made up of a Nike Air Strobel unit that extends to its full length. For basketball players, these sneakers help to “cushion impact from explosive movements” . The earlier line of sneakers was built as a lightweight alternative to the other bulky Jordans. The Tatum 2s built upon the same approach and expanded it. Nike used gum rubber in the traction areas of the shoe’s frame to increase lightness. Large foam and textile pods were placed purposefully around the foot areas that experienced the most pressure when playing basketball.

The initial shoes were released in two colorways: the “Vortex” and “Momma’s Boy” . The “Vortex” colorway adapted the green color of the Boston Celtics and came in combinations ranging from Mint Foam and Lava Glow to Hyper Jade and Key Lime.

The sneaker line was debuted by Jayson Tatum on the 25 th of December, 2023. As the player faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas day , he could be clearly seen sporting his new shoes in the “Vortex”  Colourway. While the same would not be made available to the public until March 2024, the 5x NBA All-Star still wanted to give the public a taste of what they should expect.

Jayson Tatum has been reportedly happy with how the new line of sneakers bearing his and Jordan’s name have turned out to be. In a statement, he said, “For me, this second shoe represents evolution and how much I’ve grown as a player” .
