I need help with my charter

The motor yacht charters industry in the British Virgin Islands is on the rise . The main benefits of chartering a power boat (or power catamaran) are:

• speed. Much quicker transport from A/B. If you are not a big fan of sailing, or you just prefer to see twice as many locations as on a sailing charter, go for a power boat
• comfort. In general, power boats offer more deck space and luxuries such as a sundeck jacuzzi
• fun. Motor yachts tend to carry more water toys compared to sailing yachts of comparable lengths

There is still not enough power yachts (let alone power catamarans) in the BVI to cover the demand. Although yacht sales are very active in the power yacht direction, the generally higher cost of a motor yacht is a limiting factor, since servicing a motor yacht in the BVI has its challenges. If you are inclined in the direction of a powerboat charter, let’s start looking for options right away.

Head out to Spanish Town and Leverick Bay, which have quaint local villages with many shops and restaurants, before heading back to your yacht and returning to the marina in Tortola to end your yacht charter for a day in BVI.

British Virgin Islands yacht charter overnight

A BVI overnight yacht charter allows you to moor on a bay and explore several destinations and water sports activities. You can start your overnight yacht charter at Cooper Island, which is home to the Cooper Island Beach Club's eco-resort. A week-long liveaboard on the BVI blends the best of both worlds: secluded islands with no development in sight, beautiful anchorages, and laid back villages with beachside bars. Here is a sample itinerary for your week-long yacht charter itinerary in the British Virgin Islands:

Day 1: Virgin Gorda Island

A definite must in your BVI holiday, the Virgin Gorda Island is home to The Baths, but also a great island to explore on foot. Stock up on supplies at the local market, enjoy the local produce and delicacies, buy some souvenirs, and then head out to the North Sound, an excellent overnight anchorage.

Day 2 and 3: Anegada Island

The BVI islands are volcanic but not Anegada, which sits on a coral reef, making it a unique spot in the region. Visit the Caribbean-style shops and restaurants, enjoy snorkeling and swimming at the beaches, and visit the salt ponds, teeming with birdlife and the famous pink Caribbean flamingos. Enjoy two days on this island, which is perfect for hours or lazing around on the beach and experiencing local culture.

Day 4: Trellis Bay

Head over to Trellis Bay with its excellent local vibe and vibrant market. If you're visiting on a full moon, the Bay is famous for its full moon beach parties.

Day 5: Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke is another famous BVI destination, famous for its rural and rugged scenery, but also for its vibrant beachside bars.

Day 6: Normal Island

The famous Indians and Caves are great for exploration. The Caves are renowned for being the inspiration behind the novel Treasure Island, written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Anchor at The Bight, which is a famous overnight anchorage. Spend breakfast over the waters, enjoy a couple of hours of water sports activities, then head back to Tortola to end your week-long liveaboard on your private yacht charter.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Imagine slicing through the blue sparkling waters of the Caribbean Sea in the British Virgin Islands, with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. Breakfast at Trellis Bay, lunch on Anegada and dinner at Peter Island. You will motor out of Nanny Cay Marina or Hodges Creek Marina on Tortola, aboard one of these sleek motor yachts and cruise the beautiful British Virgin Islands at your own pace, seeing as much or as little as you wish.

The motor yachts can be hired as bareboat, or for the non-sailors, a skipper can be provided. For those who would like to learn, instructional skippers can be requested.

The motor yachts range from 38′ to 58′ and are spacious, offering two, three or four double cabins, plenty of sunbathing space, fully equipped galley, CD player with speakers above and below deck, hot and cold water deck showers, inflatable dinghy with outboard and a barbeque for those balmy Caribbean evenings. Towels and bed linen are also included.

52′ power catamarans are also part of the fleet. These luxury vessels boast comfortably spacious salons and four double cabins. The enormous aft cockpit has seating for everyone, with wetbar, sink and a huge ice chest with wine and beer cooling compartment. Vast swim-platforms make getting in and out of the water easy for the divers in the party.

Watersports equipment can be arranged – kayaks, windsurfers, fishing tackle, scuba diving equipment and snorkelling gear – and with fairly shallow drafts, the yachts can easily access most anchorages in the British Virgin Islands.

Please note trawling is not permitted on any charter yacht within the BVI, only recreational fishing which must be accompanied by a licence.

We had the BEST vacation on "Sol Liv". Captain James and Chef Robyn were easy and fun to be around, and provided wonderful - and seemingly effortless- hospitality. The boat was beautiful, spotless, and spacious and somehow never seemed crowded--plenty of room to spread out and catch a nap when sailing. In addition to sailing the boat, Captain James was a master-bartender; he created a different "captain's cocktail" (aka "sundowners") each day, even providing the kids with beautiful nonalcoholic versions. And Robyn--she is truly a master chef. The creations that she made were not just visually stunning, but delicious as well. The four kids on the boat had a blast; in addition to swimming and snorkeling, they had jousting competitions on the paddleboards, and even tried to catch one of the tarpons that orbited the boat at night (no luck). I am so grateful to have been on this trip.

This was our second charter with Voyage and just like the first it was a phenomenal experience! They tailored the itinerary and menus to what our group requested. The boat was clean and in pristine condition. The layout was so well thought out. We had 12 people in our party and never felt crowded on Sol Liv. Tony and Claudia took great care of us and made sure we all had fun. We have experienced other charter companies before and it is not the same as Voyage. We will definitely travel with Voyage again in the future!

My family and I just got back from a sailing trip in the BVIs with Voyage Charters and, although I had never been sailing and had no idea what to expect going in, it exceeded all expectations I could have ever had. Our boat was named Sol Liv and it was BEAUTIFUL and so fancy! There were 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, not including crew quarters. Even though we had a family of 11 onboard, we never felt crowded and like we were constantly on top of each other. We also had our own Chef (Danielle, Denzie as Ryan calls her) and Captain (Ryan) who were both incredible. They knew the islands very well and always had a super fun day planned for us. My mom went into the trip with a few places she wanted to see/visit, which were accommodated, but some of the stops were places Ryan and Danielle recommended which we really appreciated since they are locals to the area! Danielle, was outstanding and made the most delicious meals with recipes I had never had before. Every meal we had was delicious and I am still in awe that she was able to cook that efficiently for 11 people. She would even go into town to acquire local foods so that everything was nice and fresh. I hope she makes a cookbook because I need those recipes! The Captain, Ryan, was also wonderful and went above and beyond to take us to the best spots in the BVIs. He was always ready with the dinghy to take us to shore whenever we wanted. He also went out of his way to take us on 2 separate hikes to places he thought we would like and had pretty views (first along the ridge on Norman Island, then at Cane Garden Bay). My brother and mom also lost their sunglasses in the water and Ryan went down and retrieved them for them. Danielle and Ryan were such a hospitable crew and felt like part of the family the whole trip (they even joined us for family game night 😊 ). I highly recommend Voyage Charters, especially if you have Ryan and Danielle onboard. We will definitely be back and will request this dynamic duo!!

My family and I recently returned from 8 days aboard "Electrified" with Captain Tony and his wonderful wife and Chef, Claudia, and had the most amazingly wonderful time! There was plenty for all of us to do - my kids are 14, 12 and 8, and it was the perfect mix of a relaxing and active vacation. Captain Tony knew of our interests from the Preference Packet ahead of time and set a course of travel through the BVIs based on our interests. Once he got to know us even better during the trip, at various times he asked us our preference of activities and was flexible to amend the schedule to accommodate our interests. His sailing expertise made us ALL feel very comfortable and relaxed! (We had never lived on a boat before!) Chef Claudia made delicious meals for us every day! She too had carefully read our Preference Sheets and knew what types of food my family likes best. The variety and depth of the food was amazing, and the timing of when we eat was always perfect! Together, they created a vacation that included lots of snorkeling, swimming, sunning, paddle-boarding, kayaking, and hiking (when we stopped on land). They know the BVIs so well so therefore knew all the best places - both known and less known!, and shared those with us. Not only was it a vacation we will never forget, but I am confident we will be lifelong friends with Tony and Claudia! Thank you Voyage Charters for the trip of a lifetime!

We just returned from One of the best trips we have ever taken. We spent a week sailing the BVI and could not say enough about this trip the boat was gorgeous, the staff was friendly accommodating and it was first class service all around. Most BVI charters start in Tortola. Nevertheless, it’s possible to start a crewed charter in Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Island. Not all yachts are able to start the charter in the USVI. You’ll either want a yacht that is based in the USVI or we can arrange a St. Thomas pickup (with many yachts).

Types of charter

There are two primary ways to break down the BVI yacht charters: crew and power.

• By the primary type of power used to move the boat around: Sailboat Motor yacht
• The secondary sorting is by crew that is available on the chartered yacht. Crewed Yacht Captain Only

Crewed charter

The crewed charter usually includes at least a captain and a chef. The boat is provisioned according to guest wishes and preferences. Since all the work is handled by the crew (captain handles the boat and the chef handles the food, and often more (diving, watersports)), the guests can really have a relaxed, laid back time.

Captain only charter

Captain only charters are a good middle ground between the crewed charters and the bareboat charters. It’s very much like car rental. You do the paperwork and rent the boat. Local experience of the crew should not be underestimated. A captain will know secret spots and is able to quickly analyze your preferences and types of vacation you wish (or need).

Common Issues On a BVI Yacht Charters

• I got a boat from USVI – will I find out, after I sign the contract, that we’ll not go to the BVI at all?
• All Inclusive – what does it include?
• Air Conditioning – does it run during the night?
• APA- Advance Provisioning Allowance – are you going to have a daily overview?
• Crew – what is the real crew feedback? How did they do on their last charters?
• Crew Change – is your crew a part of the contract?

Bareboat charter

Bareboat charter is the budget friendly option for qualified sailors. Originally intended for people who know the area, the price convenience caused that today, many of the bareboat captains would be better off with a captain only charter. If you haven’t been to the BVI before or you haven’t that much experience sailing the boat you wish to charter (rent), consider a captain only charter, you will thank us later:) At the moment, we don’t include bareboats in our search, please inquire directly and we can find a matching bareboat for you.

Let’s start with the relaxed and chilled atmosphere where liming was invented (drinking/eating and chilling for hours without a defined schedule). It’s the freedom that you can have when sail to bars like Willy T, the optimism and positive energy that you recuperate over the course of your vacation, that’s what makes the BVI special.

You can immediately tell the people who arrived yesterday. Full of stress, solving small things… a bundle of nerves that we turn into after prolonged experience with the “real world.” After a few painkillers (the BVI signature drink) or Frozen Margaritas (Willy T is the place), every pain diminishes and the problems fade away. British Virgin Island is little Nature secret in Caribean. The biggest island with capital is Tortola, where your yacht charter vacation will start. On the island, you can feel that time stopped and offers a pure experience of virgin nature. People on Tortola are very friendly and welcoming each tourist on the island. But not only friendly people with big hearts are the real treasure, but also white sand beaches as Smuggler’s Cove, Trunk Bay, Cane Garden Bay where you can enjoy cold drinks and soft sand. Warm, friendly and hospitable these are words which describe Tortola. This island has a wide variety of places to stay, from luxury resorts and private villas to a campground where you will become a part of little nature secret.

Nanny Cay is located on the south side of Tortola and you will find there new modern Nanny Cay Resort & Marina , where you can experience cold drinks and unforgettable sunsets. Spring BVI Regatta is very famous, and all sailors across all world come to Nany Cay to attend this biggest event of the year on the island.

Soper’s Hole Wharf& Marina- West End

If you are looking for paradise then the British Virgin Islands and part of Tortola called West end is your destination. The biggest island Tortola has many secrets of Nature, where you feel the vibe of this sunny island. West End-Soper’s hole Wharf& Marina, is not too big but very lovely marina where you can enjoy good food, refuel your boat and shop. In evening you can experience sky full of stars.

North Sound

If the BVI is the mecca of yachting, the North Sound should be it’s capital. Pristine bays, sandy beaches where you are often alone.

North Sound is located on the north of Virgin Gorda, the primary methods of transport there is by boat. It’s a rather secluded location, no doubt by design.

This Billionaire Playground has been started in the 50’s and 60’s by the Washburn family, picking up momentum throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Notably, Sir Richard Branson purchased his second island, Moskito Island, in a prominent location in the North Sound.

The activities – let’s start with sailing – North Sound being the ultimate sailing destination and hosting the annual Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta and Randevouz.

Apart from the main factor, you can see people windsurfing and kiting. Some of the most beautiful BVI diving locations are located here, namely the beautiful Mountain Point, Cow’s Mouth and Paul’s Grotto near Mountain Bay.

One of the main islands is very well known for yacht anchorages. On Jost Van Dyke will find amazing bars, restaurants with the pure Caribbean vibe. Once you come on your yacht charter to White Bay you will not want to leave ever. In the White Bay, the time stopped and you will have so much fun on your charter. Cold famous painkillers with delicious local food, you have to try this little nature secret in this paradise.

Norman Island is known as Treasure Island and was the inspiration for the pirate novel of Robert Louis Stevenson. This island is the perfect place where to sail on your yacht charter if you are looking for adventure which may end with found treasure. After snorkelling and exploring many caves which Norman Island offers, you can sail to Bight for outstanding food in Pirates Bight Restaurant and The Club Restaurant.

Place where you must charter is The Baths. This spectacular place will enchant you and you will fall in love with the Baths. What is so special about this place so you have to charter there? Answers are simply, there are few places on earth that are quite so stunningly beautiful and this part of Virgin Gorda is among them. Big rocks settled in the silky soft sand are breathtaking and once you climb thru them you will finish in Devils Bay.
