The Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) is an extra fee you pay in advance when you charter a yacht. It covers the costs of food, fuel, dock fees, customs charges, and any special needs you have during your trip. It’s paid on top of the charter price, usually about 30%-40% of the total contract.

The charter rate includes the cost of staying on the yacht, including all its amenities. It also covers the services provided by the crew, insurance for the yacht, cleaning, linens and towels, and more.

Tipping the crew is not required, but it’s customary to give around 10%-15% of the charter cost.

Crewed charters are types of yacht charters that have a dedicated, full-time crew on board. This crew is responsible for everything from maintenance, sailing, and cooking, to cleaning and navigation. Additionally, they have in-depth knowledge about the region where the yacht is chartered, providing invaluable insights for your journey.

Women can choose a swimsuit and any cover-up that makes them feel at ease, such as a caftan, along with sunglasses and sandals. Men can dress in sandals, swim shorts, and a stylish polo shirt. This attire will ensure you’re fitting for the occasion, while maintaining comfort.

A charter preference list is a document that includes all the specifics of your charter, along with a detailed list of your food and drink preferences. It should list your preferred meals, as well as any allergies the crew needs to be aware of.

A luxury yacht charter includes accommodation on the yacht, along with all its facilities. This means all meals and beverages, water sports, and fuel expenses, as well as the crew services, yacht insurance, cleaning charges, and essentials like linens and towels, among other things.

The specifics of each charter depend on the number of guests. Docking fees and taxes are typically billed separately. In the case of larger motor yachts, known as Plus Expenses Charters, the running costs are not included in the rates and must be paid separately.

The cost of a charter depends on the type of yacht, and the number of guests. For example, an all-inclusive catamaran charter in Croatia can range from as low as 300€ per day to 900€ or more per day for larger, crewed, and more luxurious catamarans. Luxury yacht rentals in Croatia start at 2,500€ per day, but can go up to as much as 20,000€ per day.

For a charter guest, chartering a yacht can certainly be worth it, depending on your vacation preferences and budget. Yachts offer a unique blend of luxury and comfort that is hard to match, offering an exclusive, personalized setting. One of the biggest appeals is the privacy it provides, making it ideal for families, friends, or couples seeking a secluded experience. You can also explore multiple destinations without the inconvenience of constant packing and unpacking. The freedom to customize your own itinerary is another significant benefit.

For yacht owners, chartering your own yacht can be highly profitable if carried out in specific regions and during certain times of the year. You can potentially earn over 100,000€ or more within a month. A typical strategy involves purchasing an affordable, possibly second-hand yacht, and then renovating it.

The prime yachting season in Croatia runs from May to October. If you prefer warm temperatures, July and August are the hottest months, making them ideal for swimming and sunbathing. However, these months also tend to be the most crowded. If you prefer a quieter experience with fewer tourists but still pleasant weather, June and September would be the best choices.

For a superyacht over 100ft (30m), you should anticipate a weekly charter fee starting at $100,000 (91,000€). For mega yachts over 200ft (60m), the weekly rental rate ranges from $300,000 to $1,000,000, or even higher.

Croatia has two distinct climate zones: a temperate continental climate in the interior and a pleasant Mediterranean climate along the Adriatic coast. Inland temperatures average 19 to 23°C in August and 0 to 2°C in January. Meanwhile, the seaside temperatures average 21 to 27°C in August and 6 to 11°C in January.

As summer beckons and vacation plans unfold, one destination that consistently graces travelers' must-visit lists is the picturesque Croatia. Blessed with a coastline adorned by islands and sun-kissed beaches, Croatia, guided by the Adriatic Sea, emerges as the ultimate summer hotspot. But with numerous options to choose from, how does one decide?

When is the best month for Sailing in Croatia?

Exploring and navigating the stunning landscapes of Croatia is best experienced during the enchanting months of May, June, September, and October. These time frames present a combination of benefits, including the full operational capacity of tour operators and hotels, a pleasantly warm climate, and more manageable crowds, especially when contrasted with the peak season.

From June to September is the High Season

To make the most of watersports like swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, and sailing in Croatia, plan your visit between June and September . During these months, the weather is consistently warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from comfortable to hot, peaking in July and August. If you prefer a hotter climate for sunbathing on the deck and swimming from the boat, summer is the ideal time.

Keep in mind that this period constitutes the peak tourist season . Popular destinations and attractions can be quite crowded, particularly in coastal areas and islands.

These months are perfect for various water-based activities due to warm sea temperatures and calm conditions . Swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, and other water sports are popular choices, making it an ideal time for beach enthusiasts.

Summer in Croatia hosts a multitude of festivals, cultural events, and outdoor concerts, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture, music, and traditions. Nightlife peaks during the summer, especially in destinations like Pag, Hvar, Brač, Dubrovnik, and Split.

May and October are Shoulder season

još slika 2.jpg

For a budget-friendly experience in Croatia, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons, specifically in early Spring (May and June) or late Autumn (September to November). These times offer a range of affordable activities. However, keep in mind that certain experiences, dining options, and accommodations may be limited.

During the shoulder season, the weather is generally pleasant. In May and September, temperatures are milder , making outdoor activities and sightseeing comfortable. The sea remains warm enough for swimming and water sports, while the weather is conducive to exploring historical sites, hiking in national parks, and enjoying outdoor dining.

Booking sailing boats during the shoulder seasons is often easier compared to the summer months, with a broader range of options and potentially more reasonable prices .

The shoulder seasons offer an excellent opportunity to explore Croatia's islands in a more family-friendly environment , characterized by fewer crowds and a relaxed atmosphere. Some events and festivals take place during these seasons, offering a unique glimpse into Croatian life, and showcasing local culture, music, and traditions.

Winter is the Low season

Exploring Croatia during the low season, from November to April , provides a unique opportunity for a more nature-focused experience.

During this time, many establishments close, leading to limited choices for boat charters, attractions, and activities. On the other hand, it is perfect for early booking activities and the flexibility to choose dates before the peak season rush.

Historic towns take on a cosy ambience, and cultural sites become more accessible without the usual crowds. While the Adriatic Sea may be too chilly for swimming, it provides a serene backdrop.

Sailing Conditions in Croatia

The Adriatic Sea , the n orthernmost part of the Mediterranean, spans from the Strait of Otranto to the Veneto region in Italy, boasting over 1,300 islands along the Croatian coast .

Tides in the Adriatic are characterized by small amplitudes, while currents are weakly observable, flowing counterclockwise along the Croatian coast.

sailing guide 4 uredene.jpg

The sea's salinity averages 38.30 per mill , influenced by the Po River and lower than the Mediterranean. Sea temperatures fluctuate annually, reaching 22 to 25°C in summer.

Waves are relatively small due to the Croatian coast's configuration, ensuring safe sailing .

Weather conditions are influenced by the general Mediterranean weather , with light to moderate winds prevailing until June, calm in July and August, and stronger winds returning in September.

Winds in Croatia

The Adriatic Sea is known for distinct wind patterns that influence its weather and sailing conditions, including Bura, Jugo, Maestral, Lebić, and Levant.

  • Bura winds from the northeast or east-northeast bring a cold, dry wind often accompanied by clear skies.
  • Jugo winds from the southeast are warm and moist , bringing humid conditions and occasional rain, often associated with unstable weather.
  • Maestral winds from the northwest are a daytime sea breeze during summer , providing cooler and pleasant conditions, particularly along the Croatian coast.
  • Levant winds from the east are moderate to strong easterly winds bringing some rainfall, more common in the southern Adriatic during transitional seasons.
  • Lebić winds from the southwest are warm and moist, potentially causing stormy weather and heavy rain , mainly in the western part of the Adriatic, more common in the fall and winter.

How much does it cost to sail around Croatia?

sailing guide 1 uredena.jpg

For a sailboat in Croatia, you can expect to pay from 1000€ per week up to 8000€ for more luxurious sailing yachts. For a modern sailing catamaran, you can expect to pay anywhere from 5000€ to 13000€, while more luxurious motor yachts cost 15000€ or more.

Navigating the pricing complexities of a yacht charter can be overwhelming for first-timers. This guide simplifies budget planning by highlighting key considerations.

  • Charter costs are influenced by factors such as yacht type , charter period , region, and whether it's bareboat or crewed.
  • Yacht model, size, and age play a role. New and sized, m otor yachts are generally more expensive .
  • Booking timing , especially taking advantage of early-bird and last-minute discounts, significantly affects prices.
  • Seasonality matters, with off-peak periods offering budget-friendly options.
  • Charter region and marina choice impact costs, providing potential savings.
  • Opting for a bareboat charter saves money while adding crew incurs additional expenses.
  • Other costs include mooring, anchorage fees, national park entrances, and fuel consumption, varying based on yacht size and route.
  • Provisioning wisely for food and drinks helps manage expenses.

The charter price, when divided among passengers, often rivals the cost of a sea-view room in a 4-star hotel. Factors influencing prices include boat type, build year, location, and charter period. Aim for September or June for budget-friendly trips, avoiding the peak season in July and August.

Be prepared for extra expenses like mooring fees, fuel costs, and tips . Croatia's short sailing distances contribute to lower fuel costs. Mooring fees vary, so check Marina's websites for accurate pricing. Harbours and anchorages may be free, providing budget-friendly alternatives.

sailing guide 6 uredene.jpg

Choosing the right crew is crucial for a harmonious voyage. Coordinate with your crew to plan an itinerary aligning with everyone's interests. Croatia's coast and islands offer diverse attractions.

Pack light,   favouring duffle bags over bulky suitcases due to limited storage. Include passports, booking documents, credit cards, sun protection, hats, medications, and essential clothing.

Embarkation typically occurs on Saturday afternoon. Plan by providing crew lists and skipper's license in advance.

Navigate responsibly, adhering to safety regulations. Refuel before returning to the marina and be punctual to avoid additional charges.

Keep a keen eye on weather forecasts. Plan your routes to align with favourable conditions, making for smoother and safer sailing. Sailing often comes with surprises, so stay calm, assess situations rationally, and be prepared to adjust your plans if needed.

Respect the environment . Be mindful of marine life, dispose of waste responsibly, and adhere to environmental regulations.

Croatian Wine Culture

The roots of viticulture in Croatia run deep, with evidence dating back 2500 years, showcasing the cultivation of vines and wine processing. From ancient coins to artefacts along the Adriatic coast, Croatia's viticultural tradition has flourished over the centuries, reaching continental Croatia several centuries later.

Today, Croatia stands as a country with a thriving wine culture, where half of the vineyards are dedicated to personal use, emphasizing the genuine appreciation for wine among Croatians.

Croatia boasts over 130 registered grape varieties, many of which are indigenous to the country, contributing to the allure of Croatian wines for those seeking distinct flavours and characteristics.

Croatia is divided into four distinct wine regions, each with its own unique features, challenges, and regulations. Slavonija region is for white wines with full flavour, fruity aromas, and medium-to-high alcohol content, featuring the prominent Graševina variety. Dalmatia region is steeped in tradition, producing red wines like Plavac, Plavac mali, Crljenak, Babić, Lasina, and Pavina . Modern producers are enhancing the wine quality with contemporary techniques. Istria and Kvarner regions are characterized by a blend of mild Mediterranean and colder continental climates, showcasing a mix of continental and Mediterranean grape varieties.

Croatia's Diverse Beer Scene

Croatia's beer culture has gained recognition in recent years. Marked by a surge in small breweries preserving cultural techniques, Croatian beer offers a lively range.

još slika 1.jpg

Karlovačko, founded in 1854, is celebrated for its refreshing character. Ožujsko, with over 120 years of brewing, is known for its crisp taste. Velebitsko offers a rich flavor, Grička Vještica Dark Lager brings roasty notes, and Baltazar Hopy Lager blends tradition with hop flavors. Barba Pale Ale adheres to purity laws, Fakin IPA stands out with 70 bitterness units, and Varionica Pale Ale is multi-awarded. Pan Pilsner boasts Czech Saaz hops, Dva Klasa Wheatbeer is refreshing, and Russian Imperial Stout from Devetka Brewery is a robust option.

Savouring a cold beer in Croatia captures the essence of a laid-back, relaxed lifestyle, fostering memorable moments.

Traditional Mediterranean Cuisine

The Mediterranean diet, recognized as one of the healthiest globally and listed by UNESCO since 2013, draws inspiration from the culinary practices of Mediterranean Sea communities.

Centred on plant-based cooking with fruits, vegetables, fish , meat, whole grains, and olive oil, the diet limits saturated fats, sugar, and refined foods. It encourages fish consumption, favours olive oil, and incorporates regional variations across Mediterranean countries.

In Croatia, the Mediterranean diet is deeply ingrained in the culture, notably on the islands of Hvar and Brač. Recognized by UNESCO, traditional Croatian dishes like 'mišina' cheese, Hrapoćuša cake, makaruni desserts , and Pag cheese contribute to preserving the region's culinary heritage.

What yacht charter are you looking for?

Croatia yacht charter.

Croatia has undergone a remarkable transformation into a luxury yacht charter destination over the last decade. With infrastructure accommodating larger yachts, competitive pricing, and a plethora of islands in close proximity, it offers a compelling alternative to destinations like Greece. Croatia’s favorable legislation allows for larger groups on charters, a rarity within the EU. Contact us to explore Croatia’s charms and discover the perfect yacht for your next adventure.

WHY CHOOSE A YACHT CHARTER IN CROATIA?

Hvar Marina, Croatia

Emerging Luxury Charter Destination

Over the last decade, we have seen Croatia completely transform from a post-Communist bareboat destination to a premier luxury yacht charter location .

This transformation has been fueled by significant investments in infrastructure, services, and amenities tailored to the needs of luxury yacht charterers. We now have a Croatian coast full of  luxury marinas offering berthing for large vessels, as well as other facilities directed at the luxury charter industry.

daniel yachting croatia

Cheaper & Less Crowded

One of our biggest emphases on Croatia yacht charters is that it is both cheaper and less crowded compared to other popular yachting destinations in the Mediterranean. While we are seeing prices of luxury motor yachts and catamarans slowly climbing, Croatia still maintains a notable price difference of 15%-25% in most niches, compared to other destinations.

Additionally, we highlight the country’s lower VAT rates on charters, set at just 13% for weekly charters, contribute to its cost-effectiveness.

Allowing Charter Groups of 12-25 Guests

Croatia’s legislation is uniquely accommodating to larger groups, allowing us to offer luxury yacht charters and Gulets with 12-25 guests —a rarity within the European Union. The only other destination that allows for group charters of this size is Turkey.

This flexibility opens up opportunities for larger gatherings, whether it be extended family vacations, corporate retreats, or special celebrations, all within the picturesque backdrop of Croatia’s cruising ground.

Croatia,

Over 1000 Islands & many UNESCO Sites

With over 1000 islands and a magnificent coastline packed with historical towns, there is no shortage of wonderful anchorages to be explored. Croatia offers opportunities for a wide range of itineraries suiting all kinds of charter vacations whether it be with family, a partner, or a group of friends.

The country is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites , including iconic landmarks such as Dubrovnik’s Old Town, Diocletian’s Palace in Split, and the historic city of Trogir.

TYPES OF YACHT Charters in Croatia

The following are the main categories of yachts available for charter in Croatia: luxury yachts, motor yachts, power catamarans, sailing yachts, and more. You can choose from various crewed yacht charter options within these categories. All yacht charters are customizable in terms of charter itineraries, onboard services, and activities, to suit the preferences of each client.

Luxury Yachts

WHAT TYPE OF CHARTER YACHT SHOULD I GET?

For those opting for ultimate luxury and speed , we always recommend chartering a Motor Yacht in Croatia. The Dalmatian Coast is home to Croatia’s largest marina, accommodating large motor yachts and super yachts with ease. Docking at Dalmacija Marina among many of Croatia’s finest Yachts, is a remarkable experience in itself.

The Motor Yachts in our catalogs are typically locally owned , and often captained by the owner himself or the owner’s son. This is a huge benefit guaranteeing a top charter experience based on extensive experience and local knowledge . When you book your Motor Yacht Charter with us, you can be sure that you are in the best hands.

There are several reasons for catamarans’ growing popularity in Croatia, one of which is their benefits in comfortable cruising. Catamarans are stable and graceful on the water and we therefore often recommend them for people who suffer from seasickness .

Their efficient design makes them noticeably faster than most sailing monohulls and their shallow draft is a significant advantage allowing for navigating in shallow waters and the option to anchor much closer to the beach. Lastly, catamarans are great for their roomy living quarters making them ideal for corporate team-building events, family charters, or a summer vacation with a group of friends.

Located off the Southern Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik stands as one of the world’s best-preserved medieval walled cities. This UNESCO World Heritage site showcases picturesque white stone buildings set against the azure blue backdrop of the Adriatic Croatian coast.

Notably, Dubrovnik served as a filming location for Game of Thrones from the second season onwards, making it a must-visit for fans of the series.

Dubrovnik, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” is a favourite among luxury Yacht Charters, loved for its fine sand beaches and idyllic coves. Its proximity to numerous isles allows you to immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of the Croatian coast and indulge in island hopping during your yacht charter vacation.

What others say about us

For years now I have been sailing as a Munich native with my friends from Germany with Mario in my 2nd home Croatia. We switched from a monohull to a catamaran a few years ago, which was Mario's suggestion. This has more than proven itself because the space and independence to anchor far away from Marina's is priceless. If someone wants to book the complete package, Mario is the right choice for them. We are thrilled every year by the selection and booking of restaurants, landing stages and bathing bays. Add to that the fact that you have a professional with over 20 years of experience who has everything under control at all times. No matter whether you want to sail, relax, swim or visit the sights. The annual sailing week, especially due to Mario's presence and organization, is an absolute highlight for each of us. Thank you so much dear Mario and for many weeks together in the future! Your Branko, Thorsten, Thomas, Christoph, Mattias, Philip, Rafael, Roman, Phillip, Frederic and Martin

I had the opportunity to sail twice with Mario. The first time in the basic school of sailing, and the second time in the Vis regatta. When you combine a great sailboat, a great team and Mario as a skipper who tries (and succedes!) to win - you get a little different, even better experience. You can see immediately Marios huge experience, but I emphasize two things: he is fantastic in transferring enthusiasm and knowledge to team members and probably the best skipper for a good mood during sailing, but especially after, when sailboats are moored. It is then that Mario's acquaintances throughout the entire Adriatic coast come to the fore, providing exclusive, original gastronomic delights. Try to secure your booking with Yachting in Croatia in time, because we were late several times and had to wait for our chance in the following summer seasons.

We had first experience with sailing. Must admit that experiences and impressions are above our expectations . We are amazed and totally pleased! Great experience and excellent access during sailing from your said Mario as well thru side of your partner Maja made our travel exceptionally pleasant and interesting where every passenger different ages has felt like king. Places that we visited, food that we tasted - the best of the best! With many years of your experience you can offer to guest the best of local offers, wonderfully scene and unforgettable experiences. Briefly, on sailing with you we convinced that Croatia is little country for great vacation! Great experience wich we will surely repeat in organization of your company. We will recommend you to all of our frends.

I would like express my gratitude to you personally as well to Maja as the great your partner. It is always been the great pleasure to use your company's service, to feel your kind attentions in every step we go. I do remember every your lesson during perfect skippers training program. Every year then we renting a boat - we getting best possible options. At best price! That’s super! Many thanks for that. I do remember all valuenurable tips you has gave to us about sailing. Best recommendations for sailing, best places to see, best food and wine to find, it is all about you and your company’s service and the passion how you do that. Even this year, just after quarantine has been finished and we find direct flight to Dubrovnik, we have vent immediately for a sailing! Thank You very much indeed for great arrangement of our sailing holiday. It was one of the best in my live. Every year I bring some new friends to Croatia for sailing and they all absolutely falling in love with sailing in Croatia.

The "Black Kiss" crew would like to thank your company for organizing our sailing holiday among the myriad Croatian islands. The best thing that you can afford during a general pandemic is to self-isolate in the expanses of the crystal clear Adriatic Sea and strengthen immunity with friends or loved ones! "August should be strained slowly, just like a pear liqueur, then poured into a small glass, and enjoyed sip by sip, while looking at the sun through the glass. August nights should be diluted with the light of the candles and days should be laid between the pages of books as bookmarks, so that you can take those books off the shelves and shake out their heart in cold November».

Me and my friends So happy choosing company “ Time 2 travel “ for sailing vacation in Croatia. They made an excelent servise for us starting from charter the sailing boat at our desired port, transfer from the airport and all requested support after: direction to sail and visit, places to stay overnight and leads for local restaurants must to visit. Yachtinincroatia is Very profesional team. Its a not first and definetelly, not the last time I’ ll ask them to organize my sailing vacations. Maja and Mario - Thank you!

10 things to do on a yacht charter during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Dalmatia Region

This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.

Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel',  Split  has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman  Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.

Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is  Dubrovnik,  a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.

Istria Region

Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.

Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.

Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

beautiful wooden bridge over rushing waters amid lush forest backdrop

Croatia’s stunning coastline and idyllic verdant islands have made it one of the most popular regions for Mediterranean yacht charters . To truly experience the magic of this country, here are our tips on the places you must check out when you charter a yacht in Croatia.

Don't Miss:

  • Game of Thrones tour - through parts of Old Town, Dubrovnik where some of the most memorable scenes were filmed.
  • Dubrovnik Summer Festival  - see dramas, plays, classical music concerts and much more.
  • 360˚ Dubrovnik - Michelin-starred restaurant built into the walls of the old town, with exquisite views over the harbour.
  • Diocletian’s Palace  - UNESCO site within the walls of Split’s historic and thriving town.
  • Franciscan Monastery - Visit Hvar’s 15th-century monastery and museum that overlooks a shady cove, and meander charming gardens that feature a 300-year old cypress tree.
  • Plitvice Lakes National Park - one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia.
  • Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) - located on the southern coast of Brač, regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe.
  • Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
  • Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
  • Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
  • Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.

Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of  Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.

But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.

daniel yachting croatia

Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

close up of luxury yacht charter in Croatia

Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia

Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.

You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.

Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia

The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulet Charters in Croatia

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

  • For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses

Child playing in the sea during a yacht charter in Croatia

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .

Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.

For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .

Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.

It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

sample itineraries

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

Glittering blue marina in Croatia

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

  • ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
  • Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
  • ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
  • Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

  • D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
  • ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
  • Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

  • ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
  • Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
  • D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Dubrovnik's glittering blue waters and old port

With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide:  Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

DANIEL ASMUS

Daniel’s passion for the water started at a young age. His family sailing vacations in the British Virgin Islands, the Seychelles and circumnavigating the globe in 2007 had developed his desire to make his passion his life style. He has since professionally accumulated over 50 000 NM and crossed the Atlantic Ocean 5 times on various yachts.

With his love for the Sea and professional attitude Daniel is a significant asset to the DMA Yachting team.

MARTINA ASMUS

Martina was born and raised in Namibia, an old German colony in Southern Africa. With no knowledge about the yachting world, till meeting Daniel, she took the brave step at the age of 19, to do her first Ocean Crossing from Namibia to the Bahamas on a 47ft Power Catamaran. Her life has been changed ever since accumulating over 20 000 NM, working as a stewardess, Chef and now Charter broker in the Yachting industry.

Our German efficiency and Namibian hard working mentality has always steered us to success.

DMA YACHTING reviews

daniel yachting croatia

Do you go to the shows to inspect the boats?

Yes, we visit as many boat shows as we can in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.  Usually, we take videos of the yachts. Many of the yacht videos are not public. As our client, we will send you a non-public walkthrough of your yacht (if we have it, usually high-end yachts). You’ll see Mo doing video walkthroughs on our channels:

BVI Little Charter Secrets

Welcome to DMA yachting

DMA Yachting was founded by Daniel & Martina Asmus, with years of sailing experience & exploring the most untouched yachting destinations.

Working as professional crew for over 6 years, doing over 100 charter weeks, gaining extensive knowledge of the Pacific (stretching from Galapagos, sailing through the beautiful islands of Tahiti all the way to Australia) Mediterranean (Balearics, South of France, Italy Corsica, Sardinia Croatia and Turkey) & the Caribbean Sea (British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, St Maarten, St Kitts and Nevis, The Grenadines and Antigua).

Over the years, we have built up personal relationships with crew in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, on different size vessels. This offers us not only a unique insight into chartering itineraries for the best secret anchorages, best beaches, local bars, snorkelling gems and beautiful sunsets, but also to match you with your perfect crew and yacht.
