Affliction Spectre Guide

One of the most powerful additions to Path of Exile in Affliction League is the new Corpses. When turned into Spectres with the Raise Spectre skill they provide some of the strongest buffs and Auras currently in the game.

Traditionally, Spectres are only used in Minion builds because they are very fragile without investment. Due to the power of the Affliction Spectres it is often valuable to also integrate them into non-Minion builds by investing into keeping them alive.

This is particularly important with the new Spectres because they cannot be resummoned after death without purchasing a new Corpse to raise.

Purchasing Corpses

The new Affliction Corpses are purchased from the Breaker of Oaths vendor in the Viridian Wildwood .

To find him, follow the purple Wisps until you find an opening in the Wildwood lit by purple candles. The Breaker of Oaths isn't in every Wildwood so keep trying until you find him.

Corpses are purchased from him by using Purple Wisps as currency. These Wisps are temporary for the instance of the Wildwood that you are in and cannot be saved up for later. Gather more Wisps by continuing to follow them throughout the Wildwood and killing purple monsters that you encounter.

The available Corpses to purchase are random. Corpses come in three different rarities: Imperfect, Regular (no prefix), and Perfect. The non-Perfect versions do not provide all of the Auras of the Perfect versions and are generally not used.

Corpses are tradeable and can be purchased from other players.

Raising Spectres

Corpses are one time use items which spawn on the ground. You then turn them into a Spectre that joins your party as an Ally through the use of the Raise Spectre Skill.

Before creating the corpse on the ground, ensure that you don't have any skills that consume corpses socketed in your gear. Skills such as Volatile Dead and Flesh Offering can destroy the corpse and you will have to purchase a replacement.

  • While in a safe location such as your hideout, right click the corpse to spawn in on the ground.
  • Hold the Corpse Targeting Key (Default: A) over the corpse until it is highlighted and you see the nameplate at the top of your screen.
  • Cast the Raise Spectre Spell on the corpse to raise it as a Spectre.

Raising MORE Spectres

Your initial Spectre limit is based on the level of the Raise Spectre Gem:

  • Level 1-12: 1
  • Level 13-24: 2
  • Level 25+: 3

This is raised further through the following sources:

  • Death Attunement on the passive tree
  • +1 to Maximum Number of Spectres delve body armour modifier

Keeping Your Spectres Alive

There are three primary ways to scale Spectre defenses: Gem levels, Resistances and Life/ES. The primary way to acquire Spetre defenses is through support gems. A strong 4-link with a high level Raise Spectre Gem and some investment into passives provides enough defense to keep them alive through most content in the game.

When getting started, get a level 20 Raise Spectre Gem with 20% quality (for more Resistances). When possible, upgrade to level 21 with 20% quality.

The best support gems, in order of priority, are:

  • Meat Shield Support for a significant less damage taken multiplier.
  • Minion Life Support for much more Life.
  • Elemental Army Support for Elemental Resistance and Maximum Resistance.
  • Empower Support for a higher Raise Spectre Gem level.

Passives and Medium Cluster Jewels also provide lots of life and defense.

Notable defensive passives, in order of priority, are:

  • Grave Intentions
  • Indomitable Army

The Minion Defense Mastery in these wheels "Minions have +8% to all maximum Elemental Resistances" is the strongest choice for additional defense.

The Minion Life Medium Cluster Jewel has many Notables that provide a larger Life pool to your Spectres. However, it has one standout node that dramatically improves their defense. If possible, get Dread March into your build for additional Life as well as defense against Physical and Chaos damage.

Affliction Corpses

Now to the fun part: the new corpses and what they provide. Some notable interactions and powers are expanded upon here to illustrate their power but the possibilities are endless! Note: the Auras granted by these Spectres have different numbers than the Auras that are granted by Skill gems and are not a direct equivalent.

Also, as said above, we are only looking at the Perfect versions as the lower tiers do not provide all of the bonuses.

Notable Corpses

  • 40% Increased Minion Life

Great cheap Spectre to buff the Life pool of all your Minions. Excellent option at lower investment to keep them all alive.

  • Precision aura
  • +10 Fortification to you and your allies

Great defensive Spectre that also provides a strong Precision Aura.

  • Applies Lightning Exposure

Very strong Grace Aura and a decent way to apply Exposure.

  • Warcry that grants your entire party Endurance Charges
  • Vitality aura

Another amazing defensive Spectre.

  • VERY strong Wrath aura
  • Allies' lightning damage is lucky

This is one of the Spectres that non-minion builds often work in. The Wrath Aura is exceptionally strong and the lucky lightning roll can provide over 30% more damage!

  • 20% physical as extra lightning damage
  • 30% attack and cast speed and 100% increased damage for Allied Constructs

Another big offensive Spectre. For any Physical to Elemental conversion build this provides a large amount of damage. In addition, the damage bonus works for Raging Spirits as they have the Construct tag.

  • 5% Physical Damage Reduction for Party Members
  • Determination aura

Defensive Spectre. Very slow (he's a turtle).

Used for a strong added Lightning damage Aura. Synergizes well with the above Lightning Spectres.

  • Frenzy charge to party members on hit

A nice way to get a Haste Aura. Frenzy charges are low chance to apply.

This is just a taste of the power that these new Corpses provide.

Remaining Corpses

Listed below are the remaining Corpses that can be purchased in Affliction league.

  • Strong Hatred aura
  • Reforms after being killed
  • Explodes on death
  • Purity of Fire
  • Purity of Ice
  • Crushes enemy on hit
  • Causes Bleeding
  • Nearby enemies have 50% reduced Life Regeneration rate
  • Summons Spiders
  • Ally spiders deal additional chaos damage with attacks
  • Owner gains 20% increased Effect of Withered
  • 100% effects of Links on this
  • Owner gains 20% increased Skill Effect Duration
  • Removes Shock on hit to trigger Lightning Explosion
  • Casts Purity of Lightning
  • Nearby allies have 20% increased Impale Effect
  • Impales of nearby allies last one additional hit
  • Owner gains 10% increased Impale Effect
  • Inflicts Withered for 2 seconds on Hit
  • Creates Aura of Chaos when hitting Poisoned enemies.
  • Nearby allies have +30% Critical Strike Multiplier
  • Casts Zealotry
  • Maims on hit
  • Owner gains 10% increased Effect of Maim
  • Absorbs Corrupting Blood, exploding it and dealing Physical Damage based on the damage of the Corrupting Blood
  • Casts Pride
  • Perfect Riftcaster
  • Owner gains 1 life flask charge every 3 seconds
  • Perfect Escaped Prototype
  • Inflicts Sap
  • Clarity aura

The full extent of power provided by the new Spectres added in Affliction league has not yet been fully explored. There are entirely new builds that have been created focusing entirely on them, from using the Dark Marionette to constantly reform and explode enemies to using Hydra as a full screen shotgunner.

Alternatively, with moderate investment into minion defense, these easily purchasable new Spectres can elevate non-minion builds to new heights through incredibly powerful Auras and buffs usually reserved for other archetypes: Fortification and Endurance Charges on a bow build, reservation Auras on a Mana stacker, even Smite bonuses on a Wander.

The possibilities are endless!

[3.1]Starter Spectre Summoner Necromancer - Odealo's Crafty Guide

Raise spectre summoner necromancer build.

Updated for Patch 3.16

The Best Crafty Guides by Odealo

Buy PoE Currency

Patch 3.8 heavily focused on the Summoner/Necromancer build archetype which made it one of the most popular classes in the entire game, with most of the Summoners playing Raise Spectres. Raise Spectre is a Minion Spell that allows you to resurrect slain enemies to fight for you and Support Gem with Gems that benefit their abilities. It offers massive DPS and at the same time, it's budget-friendly and has no specific item requirements. With the recent changes, Spectre's logic has been greatly improved which makes increases your clear speed, and the damage is simply absurd with bigger investments in Minion equipment.

In the following Guide, we are presenting 6 different types of Spectres that can be used. Obviously, with each update, we are going to include several "best" Spectre types that are worth trying out with this build. There may be small differences in Support Gems and Auras used between them, but overall the entire build is basically the same. You are just going to deal damage through different types of Spectres with possibly different damage types. The build has been nerfed with Path 3.16. It no longer has Elemental Equilibrium, and Shotgunning with your Minions is no longer a thing - it was in fact way too powerful against single targets.

You may also check  Best PoE Builds by Odealo  if you are looking for other Path of Exile builds

1. Gameplay

Spectre Summoner is somewhat similar to other summoner builds. Your main role is to Support your Minions with Auras, position yourself to avoid enemy Attacks to stay alive. The Spectres will obliterate anything on your Map within seconds, while your Animated Guardian and Carrion Golem provide valuable buffs to you and your team. Initially, we suggest using Slave Drivers as your Spectres, which have insane Lightning AoE Damage and are very easy to find. You can Summon them in Act's 5 Control Blocks, and since Patch 3.8, you no longer need to worry about the Corpse's level to do that as the Spectre level depends on your Raise Spectre Gem, not the Corpse level. This is the optimal Spectre for leveling and Starter builds, whereas you should "upgrade" to the other Spectres listed in the Skill Gem section as you progress through content and finding/obtaining them becomes easier.

2. Build's PROS & CONS

3. leveling tips.

The leveling phase with Spectre Summoner is very easy. You will be using Raise Zombies as Meat Shields and Summon Raging Spirits as your main DPS skill. There are no special item requirements for this phase, however, a +1 to socketed Gems wand is advised. You should socket your SRS setup in it. In general, a 3-4 linked Raging Spirit setup should carry you all the way to 28 when you can start using Spectres for an amazing DPS boost. Just try to summon any Spell Caster monster to aid you, and then when you reach Act 5, replace it with Slave Drivers.

Suggested leveling Gem setups:

We recommend killing all the Bandits for two additional Passive Points

Leveling Skill Trees:

33 Points Skill Tree Priorities: 1) Lord of the Dead 2) Enduring Bond 3) Death Attunement 4) Quick Recovery 5) Cruel Preparation

68 Points Skill Tree Priorities: 1) Righteous Army 2) Redemption 3) Sacrifice 4) Gravepact

Recommended leveling items:

4. Final Skill Trees, Ascendancy Points, and Pantheon

Final Skill Tree:

112 Points Final Skill Tree   117 Points Path of Building(PoB) link

Ascendancy points:

Preferably in that order:

  • Mindless Aggression
  • Unnatural Strength
  • Mistress of Sacrifice
  • Bone Barrier or Commander of Darkness

Major God: Soul of the Brine King You cannot be Stunned if you've been Stunned or Blocked a Stunning Hit in the past 2 seconds

Minor God: Soul of Gruthkul 1% additional Physical Damage Reduction for each Hit you've taken Recently up to a maximum of 5%

5. Final Gems links

5. gear setup.

The Spectre Summoner build is not only extremely powerful but also budget-friendly. As usual, we are providing all the recommended stats for each of the items listed. The items listed below will work for all the Spectres with the exception of two pairs of Unique Gloves that should be used under the specified conditions.

Also, remember that you can always visit our Path of Exile marketplace and restock any type of PoE Currency required to complete your build.

Our recommended items will:

  • Cap your resistances
  • Give you enough DPS/Life/Mana to start mapping successfully

PoE 3.23 Spectre Tier List - Best Spectres for SRS in Path of Exile Affliction

New spectres are coming to Path of Exile 3.23 Affliction League. A bunch of new spectres was changed into support spectres and they are very good. Read our PoE 3.23 spectre tier list, we’re ranking the best spectres for SRS Poison!

PoE 3.23 Best Spectres For SRS Poison - Path of Exile SRS Spectre Tier List 3.23

Spectres are special monster monsters that you can resurrect and command as minions in Path of Exile. You use the Summon Spectre gem to resurrect a fallen monster as a spectre under your control. They will follow you and attack enemies. Popular spectres include Pale Seraphim for its damage debuff, and Carnage Chieftain for its buffs. Different spectres provide different skills. There are imperfect versions, regular versions, and perfect versions of the new spectres in Path of Exile 3.23. The truth is the imperfect and normal versions are completely worthless, just ignore them. Now, let's check our PoE 3.23 Afflition spectres tier list for SRS Poison!

S Tier - Pale Seraphim

Reduces enemy action speed and increases damage taken, very strong defense buff. The main reason it is used is for its Malediction ability. When near an enemy, it applies a debuff reducing their action speed by 20% and increasing damage taken by 20%. Pale Seraphim is the premier support spectre due to its overpowered yet reliable damage amp and defensive debuff abilities. It is invaluable for minion builds.

S Tier - Perfect Forest Warrior

Gives allies an Onslaught buff and culling strike passive, great utility. Its main ability is granting allies the Onslaught buff. This provides 20% increased attack speed, cast speed and movement speed.  Has a cooldown of 12 seconds but the buff lasts 4 seconds, so near 100% uptime on Onslaught. It's the new top best PoE 3.23 DPS support spectre due to its powerful buffs and immortal qualities. A go-to guy for every minion build that has support spectres.

A Tier - Warlord

This spectre is interesting. He casts a vitality and Enduring Cry. He uses Immortal Call and shares his endurance charges so he has quite a lot of life. 20 all base resistance which is respectable that's fine. The numbers he brings at least when he's a high level are quite good. If we go to level 84, he does have a 316 life regen on his vitality which is amazing. If we have him we don't have to run vitality. Once every 8 seconds, he will do his Enduring Cry. His enduring cry regenerates 40% of his life and grants 3 endurance charges. He's going to share those endurance charges with not just you but also all your other minions making them all tank. This guy can't die and will give you maybe not permanent but quite a good uptime on endurance charges plus the vitality.

A Tier - Thunderbird

This one casts grace since now grace is not something we can afford in Poison SRS and not something we use in the Guardian SRS either. However, we can go with determination and grace by just bringing Primal Thunderbird. He has a good grace aura, 4,000 flat evasions, and 30% more evasion. The only downside about him is he has no resistance to fire and no resistance to cold base and only 188% life so he could be an issue. This one needs testing and it's also very cheap. If he lives, grace is amazing.

B Tier - Meatsack

Meatsack is an amazing name for a minion. It has very high life, it releases a caustic cloud on hit but the caustic cloud doesn't do anything. What we do care though is owner’s minions have a 40% increased maximum life so this guy's job is just to give increased maximum life to all of your minions. Making everything else tankier, making your animate guardian tankier, your other specters tankier. Increasing the life of your raging spirits if you happen to be like pop exploding them. He's got 800% on his life but otherwise he does practically nothing. He does do some chaos ground damage which is like an okay number but not enough to matter. This new PoE 3.23 Affliction spectre could be worth playing around with.

B Tier - Guardian Turtle

Guardian Turtle is only usable by a guardian, Poison SRS Necro is out of luck with this. He is huge and he is also incredibly slow. He does give the Determination Aura, a stronger version of what we give and he gives the owner 5% physical mitigation which is great. However he's unusable, you'll never be inside of his aura unless you're a Guardian. He's got a good amount of life, and good defense and he has a 4K armor and 30% more armor. So Guardians have an option for getting determination.

C Tier - Naval Officer

This spectre is a question mark because his life himself is pretty low. He's only got 60k to begin with and it's only a 146% increase. He also is missing two resistances. But he casts great precision. More importantly nearby allies have plus 10 fortifications that's the same buff the Kingmaker gives. So that is good for making us more tanky.

The best  Path of Exile 3.23 Spectre for Poison SRS is going to be Pale Seraphim and the Forest Warrior. Or either the Warlord for the endurance charges or the Grace.

POE 3.23 Top Spectres and Right Charms for SRS Guardian Build Guides

Greetings, Path of Exile fans! After a busy start in League and a few rough patches, I am back to dive into the exciting new world of spectres and charms in PoE 3.23. Let's get started optimizing your SRS Guardian build!

  • Getting Started with Charms and Corpses
  • Top Spectres for Your Build
  • Choosing the Right Charms
  • Synergizing Spectres and Charms

POE 3.23 Top Spectres and Right Charms for SRS Guardian Build Guides

↖ Getting Started with Charms and Corpses

Firstly, what is the best way to obtain these? Well, at the beginning of each map, you might have noticed an entrance leading into the Vidian Wildwood.

Charms are obtained from the Primalist (follow the blue wisps), whereas corpses (for spectres) are obtained from the Breaker of Oaths (follow the purple wisps).

Finding the NPCs is quite a challenge, and there is no guarantee of success.

↖ Top Spectres for Your Build

  • Naval Officer : This spectre is a game-changer with its precision and +10 fortification to nearby allies. It's a massive boost in survivability and, when combined with the right charms, makes your build nearly invincible.
  • Forest Warrior : Equipped with Calling Strike and Onslaught, this spectre boosts the speed and effectiveness of your build significantly.
  • Primal Thunderbird : While it inflicts lightning exposure, its main draw is the additional Grace Aura, a nice defensive touch.
  • Warlord : Shares endurance charges and casts Vitality, enhancing the life regen of you and your minions - a solid pick for sustainability.

Hulking Miscreation, Meat Sack, Forest Tiger, and Guardian Turtle: Each brings unique buffs, from physical damage conversion to auras like Haste and Determination.

Mix and match based on your playstyle and needs.

↖ Choosing the Right Charms

When you visit the Wildwood Primalist, you'll get three charm sockets - think of them like mini-ascendency nodes.

Here are some top charm picks:

  • Life Regenerate: Vital for consistent regeneration.
  • Cursed Enemies Explode (Profane Bloom) : Cleans up your clear and works wonders for your minions.
  • Mana Reservation Efficiency and Chance to Block : Boosts your defensive capabilities.
  • Every 4 Seconds Regenerate Life : Another layer of survivability.
  • Nearby Allies Onslaught : A great alternative to the Forest Warrior, freeing up a spectre slot for something else.
  • Chance to Suppress Spell Damage : Invaluable for mitigating incoming spell damage.

↖ Synergizing Spectres and Charms

The beauty of this build is in the synergy.

Combining spectres like the Naval Officer with charms that enhance fortification or provide Onslaught creates a powerful and balanced setup.

If your spectre dies, you will lose it, so take care of your minions' lives and defend them. It is also important to keep an eye on the market for these spectres and charms, as prices can fluctuate.

poe best utility spectres

September 28th, 2023, 14:01

Due to the latest balancing changes, we do not recommend playing this build anymore, as it does not meet the high standards we apply to our guides in terms of fun and performance. We are leaving it up as a reference and it might be revived in a later patch.

Raise Spectre

There are several types of Spectres that are commonly used, however, this build focuses on making use of the Slave Drivers , an underutilized Spectre that actually puts the rest of them to shame. Boss killing, mapping, deep delving — all fall before the spectral army we can employ, giving this build a rare flexibility that few others can boast of.

Build Assessment

+ Exceptional boss slayer — used for many Uber Awakener first kills upon Sirus’ release

+ Strong all around defenses (high maximum life, regeneration, many Jewel sockets, high Evasion)

+ Excellent league starter

Exalted Orb

+ Delve to depths of ~650+ without trouble

+ Flatten all types of content from the safety of the backline — let your army do the work

+ High movement speed

– Summoner playstyle is polarizing — usually a “love it or hate it” type of build – Spectres can be squishy before end-game gem levels and tree and need special care

Path of Building

Path of Building is available for my build here.

DPS is counted for each spectre individually — remember you have 4 (or 5, if you have a +1 gems item!).

We use the Path of Building Community Fork for all of our builds, which is highly recommended. If you are encountering errors importing the build, please ensure you are using the Community Fork .

Playstyle and Build Mechanics

Armageddon Brand

This build makes use of the Slave Driver , an uncommon choice but our overall best option in Patch 3.12 Heist League. Unlike past iterations of the summoner, we do not need to make use of multiple types of spectres to maximize our potential in all areas of the game — boss killing, clear, and delve, the Slave Drivers are exceptional at it all.

Elemental Equilibrium allows us to deal massively increased damage with our minions for free and is easily applied using a self-cast spell. While this is not completely necessary for clearing standard mobs, it is an enormous increase for bossing and Legion rares, and helps us really power through targets that are a bit more beefy. Slave Drivers deal a heavy amount of Lightning damage and tear apart virtually everything.

Obtaining the Slave Driver Spectres

  • Go to the Control Blocks in Act V.

Passive Skill Tree

This is our recommended Level 90 Passive Skill Tree.

We go over all of the gem links this build uses in the end-game on our Gem Link page.

Ascendancy, Bandits, and Pantheon Powers

These items strike a balance between power and cost-effectiveness. If you want to explore more options for Gear (both budget and high-end), Flasks, or get more information on alternatives and specialty items, please ensure you read the Gear, Jewels, and Flasks section in its entirety.

Our recommendation:

For much more detailed information on the best gear, jewels, and flasks to use, be sure to check out our Gear page.

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

  • Our step-by-step leveling walkthrough , which allows even more experienced players to save time and speed through the leveling process.
  • Our guide to Unique Items for leveling , which helps you gear up your characters for the leveling process.
  • Our beginner leveling guide , which answers many of the questions new players might have and will set you on the right path.

It is highly recommended you follow our Quick Reference Leveling Guide in tandem from this point onwards. It is the most efficient leveling guide available and will direct you exactly where you need to go to get through the Acts as quickly as possible while also obtaining all essential items and lab trials. This section is written assuming that you are following our optimal path.

Elemental Reflect is the only Map mod that is not possible/majorly inconvenient for this build, so avoid it at all points.

  • Corpse targeting : Holding down the corpse targeting toggle (defaults to the "A" key) makes it easier to choose a corpse to raise. Note that you must continue targeting the corpse while raising the spectre. If you let go of your corpse target button you may raise a different spectre.
  • Monster level : Spectres no longer have their level reduced to the level of the area they are in. Instead, the level of a Spectre is now based on the level of the Raise Spectre skill gem.

Strategy [ | ]

As players progress through the game, there are several monsters that present interesting choices to supplement summoner and hybrid-summon builds alike. Even for a non-summoner build, a single curse-casting spectre whose AI helps them stay away can be quite useful. In practice, it's not that easy to keep a sole spectre alive without having other bodies around to shield it - this means parties and hybrid/full-summon builds.

Blight League [ | ]

In Blight League it was determined by build maker that 3 of the best spectres to use are:

Party-friendly [ | ]

The following list are a small sample of Spectres that are compatible with parties in general since they are both useful and have a relatively low graphics load for the sake of others:

  • Rallying Cry - Ruins Hellion
  • Snow Cloak - They of Tul found in Tul's Domain
  • Enduring Cry - Hairy Bonecrusher
  • Chaos Degeneration aura - Shaggy Monstrosity
  • Grants Frenzy Charges - Carnage Chieftain , Aboriginal Chieftain , Stygian Silverback
  • Grants Power Charges - Host Chieftain
  • Enrage (+20% Move speed, attack speed, cast speed) - Arena Master found from Drox Portals
  • Curse-specialists (see below)
  • Other (see below)

Ranged multi-shot and AoE [ | ]

Finding Spectres in Maps [ | ]

Some guidance on Spectre corpse availability when raising Spectres in maps:

  • Maps have a default sub-set of mob-types that will spawn, usually related to the tileset.
  • Mobs like Stygian Revenants (Undead) and Undying Evangelists (Humanoid) will have better chance to be spawned with a map mod that changes the allowed mob-types.
  • Taking existing Spectres into a map adds them to the list of spawnable corpses via Desecrate if allowed by the map, even if there are no mobs of that type present. This seems to be related to the default sub-set above. E.g. taking Flame Sentinels into a white Temple will allow their corpses to be spawned by Desecrate . Note that mods changing the spawn-type such as Bipedal will prevent Flame Sentinel corpses from spawning. Also note that some instances will be more difficult than others to obtain the matching corpses, probably because the the actual monster variety in the map tileset is higher. Sometimes this takes dozens of casts, in which case using traps and mines to multiply the number of corpses can be useful.

  5. Personally tested ~100 different rare spectres. Here are my notes

My favorite nonmeta spectres nobody else uses from the list are 1) Aurid Synthete 2) Turong 3) Winged Synthete 4) Knight of the Sun 5) Karui Firespeaker 6) Vivid Vulture 7) Azurite Widow 8) Senior Heretech.
