Be the first to review this somewhat hidden gem of a music venue and brewery? don't mind if I do! Over my past couple of years of listening to them, Foxy Shazam has evolved into being a band that I really needed to see live. So when I saw that they were playing this random Millersville venue not all that far away I was instantly intrigued, and then I was even more sold when I saw that the venue also brewed their own beer. I also loved that it was a non-Ticket Master venue that used Eventbrite to sell tickets without an insane amount of hidden fees. And when I checked it out it was a hidden gem of a pleasant surprise. Unless you go to Millersville University, the area that the venue is at is one that you might not frequent. But Phantom Power is one of those few other reasons to visit since it delivers a fine assortment of local flavor events and national touring acts. Regular events include things like gothic/industrial dance parties, comedy nights, a Kegs and Eggs weekend brunch event, or just chilling in their outdoor beer garden on good weather days. I would absolutely go to things like these if Millersville was even closer! But on the flip side Phantom Power has also been seeing a good surge of national acts coming through thanks to WXPN taking notice for shows and them just being a fun and reliable space which I'll get to. In addition to Foxy Shazam I've seen big local names like Hop Along and mewithoutyou, indie acts like Delta Spirit and Sondre Lerche, Industrial and Punk bands like Front 242 and Reverend Horton Heat, and WTF WoW shows like Tim Cappello from Lost Boys (I still believe! - https://youtu.be/LpuwcINDHnQ) on their current and past lineup. It kind of reminds me of pleasantly filled memory venues of yesteryear like the Trocadero, only with a better beer list! Once we made our way through the lot to the venue we realized how big it is. Outside of their brunch event, they don't have a menu of their own, but I love the food truck connections they have and really wish I could remember the name of the BBQ truck that had those glorious smoked wings! The on-site brewed beer was as much of a hidden gem as the music venue since we enjoyed IPAs, stouts, pilsners, ESBs, and some other good varieties. The one suggestion I have is that, with a music venue of its caliber that also has a good beer list, it would be useful for them to have more sheld space to leave cups on during a jam-packed show like the one we were at, Foxy Shazam is one of those good energy rock bands that I would have enjoyed without good sound or lighting. But the fact that they had both in spades definitely helped. Now that I know this hidden gem is a success I'm checking their Facebook and Eventbrite pages (they don't actually seem to have their own site outside of those) for eye-catching shows, and you should do the same!
The venue this place has to offer is some that I would not normally attend.( so I thought) i I been trying out new things. Staff here was down to earth and pleasant. The place was laid off nicely with two levels. The have a bar on both levels. Very small bar food menu. This is not a restaurant. Snack type hot food only. The entertainment tonight I was surprised. They were actually very good. And when I read what they had on their calendar they had some stuff that interest me. Yes this place is geared towards a younger demographic. At least compared to my age..I recommend you check out the web site. They have a lot to offer.I was there for about three hours. I prepaid for my ticket. . It end up being a very inexpensive night of entertainment.

Phantom Power brings music to Millersville amidst pandemic
Hannah sutton staff writer.
Most professional industries have taken a hit this year due to COVID-19 and its spread, especially those that rely on crowds of people to function. Bars and restaurants feel the heat of the pandemic and live music almost seems like a thing of the past. As venues all across the world are forced to cancel or indefinitely postpone shows, everyone is asking the same thing: when and how will we ever hear live music performances again? Musicians have been holding online streams for their fans while some larger venues have started drive-in concerts. Many smaller venues are suffering, as many are not equipped for alternative measures. Fortunately, right here in Millersville just a short walk from campus, Phantom Power is able to put on live shows in their makeshift beer garden.
Recently opened in February of this year, Phantom Power is a bar and music venue that showcases local talent. The venue had a short run before they were forced to close their doors indefinitely, just like all other nonessential businesses amidst the pandemic.
In early June, they announced on their Facebook page the opening of their beer garden, a makeshift outdoor seating area arranged in a socially distanced fashion. Event tickets are available to be pre-purchased online or at the door, depending on capacity and sales limits.
On nights without planned events, guests are still able to sit down and enjoy their evening. The venue offers table service only with limited menu items available, allowing alcoholic beverage purchases within the COVID-19 guidelines set in place. The menu is offered contactless and readily available to customers via a QR code printed and laminated on tables. Instructions to scan the code with a smartphone are attached. Seating is limited to four guests per table and, like other places open for sit-down service, masks are required while not seated. The live performances are sometimes limited to 21+ unless accompanied by a parent/guardian but some all ages shows are put on as well.
One of their most recent all ages shows proved that Phantom Power is not just for casual bar-going. The venue showcased The Stonewall Vessels, a local group described as psychedelic, genre-bending rock who use influences of punk, indie and 60s rock to create their own sound. Set up in the building’s parking lot, the band was situated in the front corner of the beer section and was able to be seen from each table. They succeeded in mesmerizing the small crowd of about 35 people with their tunes for the whole evening; they even played an encore at the end. The original music had people tapping their toes along to the beat and directed their attention to the performers rather than who they were seated with. The members were upbeat and interacted with the crowd in between songs played.
The venue’s next event is an all-age karaoke night on Sept. 17. This will begin at 6 p.m., end at 8 p.m., and entry will be free. The next day, Sept. 18, will be their next live performance event which will feature local music groups “One Too Many,” a self-proclaimed diverse, genre shifting band, and “No Bad Days,” an eclectic musical bunch that features the vibraphone. This event will be open to all ages but will require a $5 entry fee.
Phantom Power is here to provide entertainment and a good time to both students and residents of Millersville and Lancaster. With the current climate and state of the world, it is a breath of fresh air to sit, relax and enjoy a live performance.
