4 Croatia Yacht Cruise Charters You Should Know About

4 Croatia Yacht Cruise Charters — Expert Reviews

By John Roberts & Heidi Sarna

If you haven’t been to Croatia, you don’t know what you’re missing.  Yacht cruises along the Dalmatian coast of Croatia are one of our favorite small-ship cruise experiences, and for good reason.

Croatia’s rocky coastline stretches for more than 1,000 miles along the eastern edges of the Adriatic Sea, from just south of Italy’s Trieste to Montenegro. Countless craggy limestone islands are scattered along the jagged coast, creating one of world’s most scenic places to cruise — right up there with Norway’s fjords, Alaska’s glaciers, and the Greek Isles.

Speaking of Greece, small-ship sailing among its gorgeous isles, coasts and harbors has long been coveted.

That said, the difference between yachting around the Greek Isles vs Croatia is that Croatia offers an experience that features all the beauty and even better affordability — with generally calmer seas.

The island groups dotting the pleasant waters of the Adriatic Sea along the Dalmatian Coast are clustered relatively close together so that you can easily visit numerous ports during one voyage — with each spot offering distinct charms and history.

Croatia Yacht Cruise Charters

In the COVID-19 era (and post COVID era), private Croatia yacht cruise charters along the coast and among the islands of Croatia are small-ship cruise experiences that make sense.

The intimate sailings offer a more controlled and thus relatively safe environment as you spend your days among a small group of friends or family enjoying days filled with sunshine, swimming and exploring ports, many quite remote. Among the various visitors to Croatia, many come from North America, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

With breathtaking views from your yacht’s top deck, a voyage along the Dalmatian Coast is a fantastic way to soak up the natural beauty and rich history of the country.

Croatia’s Deep History

The Romans established the province of Dalmatia, the precursor to Croatia, along the Adriatic Sea more than 2,000 years ago. Dalmatia thrived from about 11 BC to the fifth century AD.

Over the centuries, powerful empires, from the Greeks to the Romans, Slavs, Venetians, Ottomans, and Austro-Hungarians, would leave their mark on what would become the Croatia we see today.

We’re lucky that many spectacular and well-preserved relics remain, from fourth-century palaces to medieval fortresses, cathedrals and classic turreted city walls. The most spectacular — Dubrovnik’s City Walls, Diocletian’s Palace in Split and Hvar’s Old Town — are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

You’ll also find memorials and dedications to the Croatian War of Independence from 1991 to 1995, during which the country was entrenched in a civil war with Serbian forces while striving to secede from the former Yugoslavia. When you visit the gorgeous towns and villages along the coast today, it’s mind-boggling to consider that not too long ago this was a war-torn region.

Activities in Croatia

Daily excursions include swimming and watersports right off the side of your yacht. And on shore, you can stroll, hike, kayak and bicycle. Eating counts as pastime too.

For the history buffs among us, there are no shortage of ancient sites to visit. Explore on your own, or sign up for a guided excursion; depending on your package, guided excursions may or may not be included in the fares.

Croatia Cuisine

All along the Dalmatian coast are regions known for wine and olive oil. Seafood is also especially good here, too, from oysters to squid, octopus, mussels and fish, the later served grilled or in a traditional stew.

Croatian cuisine is based on heritage rooted in Central Europe, Italy and Turkey. These influences meld to give you Croatian favorites like cabbage leaves filled with minced meat, cevapcici rolls and dumplings.

Beaches in Croatia

Croatia boasts crystal-clear waters along its coast. Beaches are popular spots for tourists and residents, alike, although the country’s beaches are rocky and not the silky sands you associate with the Caribbean or South of France. They’re excellent places for people watching.

Still, Croatia’s beach regions offer the chance to play in the water, explore adjacent caves, paddle in idyllic coves or converge at nighttime for boisterous summer parties and festivals in places like Pag, Hvar and Split.

The Croatia Yacht Cruises Vibe

Life is lived up on deck and outside in the fresh air and sea. You’ll barely need to pack more more than your bathing suit!

Standard yachting voyages use small ships with modest accommodations that carry between six and 40 people on itineraries between the larger cities of Dubrovnik and Split or Hvar.

Trips typically last from two days to a week. You can find countless yachting outfits in Croatia that offer the tiny ships that dart around the islands and coastal ports to provide an intimate experience, including the four we feature in this article — Goolets, Sail Croatia, Katarina Line and Kompas Cruises.

Many of the yachts used are “gulets,” a Turkish term derived from the French word “goélette” and the Italian “goletta.”

These traditional-style 2- and 3-masted yachts are based on vessels that were once used as trading and fishing boats. Much like the “canal barge” cruises of France, the “gulet” yachts of Croatia, Greece and Turkey have been transformed into luxury conveyances for holidays, though their size and level of luxury varies as do their fares. Some quite posh, others very humble.

Private Croatia yacht cruise charters are highly curated, with the captain and crew able to design a flexible itinerary based on what you and your group would like to experience. Fill your days with hiking, biking, swimming in pristine bays, exploring historic sites or just relaxing over beers and regional cuisine at charming seaside towns or marinas.

You’re probably after a nice mix of all of these, huh?

While you can find plenty of high-end luxury yacht cruises in Croatia, as well as a number of departures available on larger vessels from Star Clippers and Ponant (other small-ship lines we cover on QuirkyCruise.com) that carry 170 to 184 passengers, this Croatia yacht cruise charters roundup will show you four awesome options for a fantastic voyage that won’t break the bank.

The following 4 Croatia yacht cruise companies are ideal for private charters for friend and family groups:

Katarina line.

This family-owned line has operating for some 30 years offers a broad range of cruising styles and lengths on more than 60 small ships that are chartered from Croatian captains who provide a special personal touch to your yachting experience. They can also help with hotel bookings and other tourist services for a stay in Croatia.

Katarina Line offers Deluxe, Premium or Standard cruises roundtrip or one way traveling among the ports of Split, Dubrovnik and Opatija, as well as special Active cruises and Land and Cruise combos.

Ships sail for about four hours each day, overnighting in ports and sailing just after breakfast each day.

The scenic sailing takes you to intimate bays and swimming areas, where you anchor for a bit of swim time and water sports before lunch onboard. Then, you continue on to the next port stop for your exploration ashore, dinner on your own with your fellow travelers and an overnight on the ship.

The schedule is fairly flexible, but this represents the basic outline that can be adjusted based on weather conditions and desires of the group — maybe you want more time swimming or seek to get to the port earlier to try an organized tour that explores popular points of interest.

Katarina Line offers a range of excursions that are added on for a fee. You can tour Plitvice Lakes or go sea kayaking around Dubrovnik, for example.

Most of the sailing options fall under the Deluxe and Premium cruise category , and almost all of these ships offer accommodations with private bathrooms and air conditioning.

The Standard cruise category attracts budget travelers, often younger folks and backpackers, generally, ages 18 to 35.

Katarina Line’s newer Deluxe and Premium ships see passengers typically in the 40 to 60-ish age range. Travelers represent a fairly international mix, though with mostly English-speaking couples from the U.S., U.K., Europe and Australia.

All of the cruises include breakfast and lunch in your cruise fare.

The Ships of the Katarina Fleet

Katarina Line operates a fleet of more than 60 vessels — a combination of deluxe and standard yachts and small gulets — that carry from five to 38 passengers . Fares are partially inclusive, with some meals, one bottle of water per day and one drink with lunch onboard, some transfers to and from the airport or your hotel, plus tastings and guided tours (as indicated in your itinerary).

An English-speaking tour guide sails along to manage the schedule. The ships offer free WiFi.

The Deluxe or Premium ships might have hot tubs and loungers on the sun deck.

Katarina Itineraries

Cruises range from two to seven days in length and visit destinations such as Korcula, Metkovic, Sibenik, Zadar, Rab, Vis and Hvar, departing from the main embarkation ports of Dubrovnik, Split and Opatija.

Katarina Croatia Yacht Cruise Charters

The line’s smaller vessels make great full-boat charters for friend and family groups ; Katarina estimates about 10% of their business is full charters.

This company focuses on full-ship charters of its more than 70 luxury gulets — traditional small two- or three-masted wooden boats for friends and family groups. Custom itineraries are created for each charter.

Goolets’ charters are luxury small ship experiences with typically eight to 12 passengers on a sailing paying at least $1,200 USD per person for a week of cruising along the Adriatic Coast.

Most passengers hail from English-speaking countries, including the USA, UK, South Africa, Australia, Israel, and also European countries from Germany to France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Belgium, as well as Mexico and Chile.

The company prides itself on offering full service and support, guiding customers on choosing the appropriate ship, itinerary, tours, menu and transfers to and from the vessels.

A personal assistant is assigned to each sailing to help create the type of cruise desired. For active cruisers, Goolets offers snorkeling, scuba, rafting and hiking.

They can also help design gourmet-style holidays that emphasize culinary tours and wine tasting, or cruises focused on history and cultural tours.

When it comes to food preferences, the galley and bar will stock your requests to accommodate allergies and favorite meals and drinks.

Ships in the Goolets Fleet

Goolets has more than 70 ships in Croatia of various sizes and styles that carry from five to 38 passengers, with most in the eight to 12 passenger range.

Each ship will have slightly different amenities and options because they are all independently owned and uniquely beautiful traditional sailing vessels.

The smaller ones typically are more austere ships with compact cabins and tiny en suite bathroom facilities.

All the ships will generally have sun loungers, some WiFi access and extras like snorkel equipment and jet skis and water skis.

  • Hi Amanda! I arrived home last night. Our week on Navilux was wonderful! The boat is beautiful! The crew was amazing. The food was excellent! Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Croatia is a beautiful country. Thank you for your help throughout the process. S.
  • Josh, the charter was amazing, everything was perfect: crew, water, food, service, toys, jetski... All in all was it really good. P.A.
  • Hello Amanda! Back home and already in the office… Amazing crew and boat! We all had a great time! Olav sure is a very capable captain, manager and team builder. He has everything under control without much stress. Giordana is a great chief hostess, excellent singer and bar-woman!!! We had lots of fun with her shows and great hangovers with her Negronis and Dirty Dry Martinis. Bernadette is the perfect stewardess… very discreet and lovely at the same time, and always there for us... Rich is the best chef we had so far. He really spoilt the kids... I’ll need two months to recover from his homemade breads… Sean and Mathew are great guys, they were always there for us in the back of the boat… The boat was very well maintained… should also thank Jorge and Tricia. I would definitely recommend these guys to any of my friends. The boat, although a 1993 vessel, is very well made (Hessen) and maintained. RM
  • Thanks so much Amanda - the boat was wonderful!! We had a wonderful trip! There were some unexpected bumps along the way but we know that is how international travel sometimes goes! We all agreed that YOUR communication with us and guidance along the way was top notch! The boat was impeccable and the places we visited in Croatia were simply breathtaking! Not sure who had more fun jumping off the top the adults or the kids! :) We will definitely call on you again for our next trip in 2021!! We hope we weren’t too much trouble and that you will help us again!! Thanks so much again for all of your help and guidance Amanda! I hope it’s ok that I sent your info to my parents and a bunch of their friends. -THANK SO MUCH AGAIN! AK
  • Hi Martha, We just returned home after staying in split for two nights which was great. We had the best time... The yacht was fantastic, not one single complaint and the crew were just wonderful. Ashton and Milena were particularly phenomenal and really made the trip that much more fantastic but everyone was very warm sweet and welcoming. Food was delicious. Neil did a great job. I would highly recommend ASHA and the crew and would definitely book again. Best, SD
  • Colin - Thank you for the most amazing week. Croatia is spectacular! We had an awesome trip. Food was fantastic and who can forget Anna’s special salad. Thanks for everything. Love, IP
  • Trina, everything was great :) We really enjoyed our time on the yacht. Captain Boris was very nice, as were Maria and Gaga. We couldn’t have asked for a better crew. Thank you for all of your help with it. We were able to check out a few islands and using a yacht is definitely something we plan on doing again in the future! M.A
  • Amanda, The trip was incredible. We had a GREAT time. Service was excellent, boat was as promised and the area is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous regions I have ever visited. Captain Vojo and Jiri were amazing as was their entire crew. They clearly went out of their way to ensure we had an outstanding holiday. Thumbs up and I would (and will) return in a minute. Very happy customer.
  • Martha, we are sadly back at home after an amazing trip in Dalmatia. Captain Mirko and his crew were beyond our expectations and we all sadly said goodbye yesterday as we disembarked ALBA. The weather was great, the sites phenomenal, and the food on and off the boat exquisite. I would recommend the experience we just lived to everyone… Thank you for helping us connect with Mirko and co.
  • Josh, The charter on Domenica was fantastic. The crew were very professional, the chef very passionate & innovative & the skipper Lovor was a standout. We were only the 2nd charter that they had done as I believe the owner is very particular & only wanting to do a few charters a year. The crew were obviously used to a hard marker in the owner & this showed in every aspect of their service. The service from yourself was also very professional & most attentive so I really appreciated that. It made the whole experience a very easy & seamless one. I look forward to dealing with you again next year when we are thinking of a 7-10 day charter for 8 guests around Corsica & perhaps Sardinia in mid-June. We will stay in touch.
  • Hi Amanda, after 36 hours of adjustment, the Journey found its pace and the crew has been terrific. They very kindly arranged for us to spend nights in the most beautiful bays, arranged great restaurants, water sports and have been very very nice to all of us, so a big thanks to them and to all of you who made this happen. Needless to re-confirm that they very much deserve the full gratuity/tip I had left with you, for them. Thanks again Amanda for once again a fantastic trip!
  • Sally, they were very pleased with everything and had a great time. Thank you!
  • Hi Reia, You beat me to the email. We got in late last night. We could not have been happier with the boat, the crew and the location. The crew could not do enough for us. It was an absolute privilege to have such a week like we did. Everything was perfect and we had so much fun. The food was incredible too and everything we requested. Please pass on our thanks again to our captain and our crew. I would also like the captain’s email as I have some very memorable photos he has requested to be sent to him. We enjoyed the week so much we are talking about the next one. Stewart will be in touch with our brief. Thanks for all your amazing efforts. Warm regards
  • Hi Trina, We really loved this trip. The yacht was amazing, with all area usable. The crew was the best so far. They really went above and beyond, which made us enjoy this trip just a little bit more than all the others. This boat and crew really is amazing.  Thanks again for helping us out on this trip. We are thinking about going to Croatia in late summer or early fall.  Keep an eye out for a good yacht for us. M/Y BALAJU / Dec 30 – Bahamas
  • We have just completed a three week cruise of the Croatian waters aboard Annabel II and are so completely delighted I am compelled to report back for other prospective travelers. We began our cruise in Tavit, Montenegro with three couples/friends and voyaged NW stopping at islands along the Dalmatian Coast, finally making an interim stop in Izola, Slovenia where three other couples/friends replaced the first group. The second leg took us SE, basically retracing the first leg, but invariably stopping/anchoring at different bays and villages. It helps that these cruising waters are simply outstanding in every way: beautiful bays, quaint and historical harbors, 78 degree water, great swimming, hiking, killer sunsets, stand up paddle boarding, interesting and historical villages. Many beautiful and HUGE yachts ply these waters, but I never felt like we were merely tourists as so often is the case in other popular European destinations. We WILL return as there are over a thousand islands, all with their individual charms. The yacht was eminently satisfactory with jacuzzi, music system, TVs everywhere, a huge master stateroom etc., etc. Annabel II also possesses a tuned piano which did get used. But the greatest delight was our crew consisting of Captain Andrew, Engineer Nathan, Stewardess Hayley and Chef Dee Dee. By the way, Hayley and Nathan are married. All are Kiwis and proud of it. Compare them with Aussies at your risk. Under Andrew the crew operated seamlessly and anchoring/tying up was akin to performance art. As a boater in Southern California I appreciated and was amazed at the teamwork. And the gourmet meals!!! Breakfast was prepared to individual wishes. One morning I asked for crepes expecting to be told it wasn't planned for and not available. Instead Chef Dee Dee dug up a recipe from her vast repetoire, including Nutella spread and surprised me with a fabulous breakfast. Lunch was typically an ample buffet. And dinners were just fabulous, each different with elaborate place settings and napkins folded using origami rules.  Individual dietary needs were always respected, and the meals were healthy. M/Y ANNABEL II / Croatia / July Part 1
  • Our Annabell II voyage was even more special than we imagined—and we were imagining something great.  The crew was warm and friendly, making the boat a real home for us all.  We seemed to find one great place after another to cruise and to land.  We particularly enjoyed the chance for water recreation in the wonderful Adriatic—our stops in coves were special, as were the stunning towns we visited.  It seemed as though we cruised casually, very unlike the structured programs that big ships offer and wonderful for us.  What a way to see the beautiful Croatian Coast!  Many thanks for connecting us to such a great boat and crew! M/Y ANNABEL II / Croatia / July  Part 2
  • Our boat trip is over, unfortunately, and we fly home today.  Our experience on board can be summarized in one word EXCELLENCE! EXCELLENCE in crew, EXCELLENCE in the boat, EXCELLENCE in the kitchen, EXCELLENCE in guest treatment, EXCELLENCE in all aspects, Just EXCELLENCE in the whole experience. We all enjoyed it tremendously.  Thanking you all for this memorable trip, and till next our next adventure. S/Y AOIBH / Croatia / Aug 7 - 12
  • Dear Amanda, Thanks for the great vacations everything is super the boat, the crew and the place. M/Y IMAGINE / Croatia / Aug 3 – 10
  • Dear Amanda, I’m very happy to inform you the family just told us they had a an extraordinary experience on board “Va Bene” They loved everything, the yacht, the crew, the places, the food, the climate…..I really would like to thank you for all your support to making out of this an exceptional one! Hope to have the opportunity to organize something else soon. Working with you is always a pleasure. M/Y VA BENE / Croatia / July
  • Hello Sally, Magrathea is a great yacht. In very good condition and well prepared by the crew. Becky and Giles form an outstanding crew. Excellent in sailing, cooking, finding appropriate moorings, with a permanent sense of service, willing to make us have the best holidays on the boat. Which they did successfully. They are by far the best crew we ever had and would highly recommend them. S/Y MARGRATHEA / Croatia / July 9 – 19
  • Sally, FIDUCIA was very well maintained and suited our requirements perfectly. Captain Tony was great, very inclusive in itinerary discussions, and nothing was ever a problem. Our hostess, Carla, was delightful. Very together and capable. We would highly recommend both of them. Meals were clean, fresh and simple, just as we requested.& MY FIDUCIA / Split to Split / June 30 – July 1, 2017
  • We had a truly wonderful trip, Amanda. What a wonderful boat and crew. Thanks for everything you did to make it possible. Gulet CESARIKA / Croatia / July
  • Amanda, The crew are fantastic as is the weather. We are enjoying. MY NOMI / June  / Croatia
  • An absolutely stunning trip. Weather was great, the crew were fantastic and we thought Annabel II was an amazing boat (lots of space). M/Y ANNABEL II / Croatia / June

What yacht charter are you looking for?

Croatia yacht charter.

Croatia has undergone a remarkable transformation into a luxury yacht charter destination over the last decade, and it does not seem to be slowing down!

With a growing infrastructure accommodating larger yachts (the above 150-foot fleet is increasing rapidly), competitive pricing, and a plethora of stunning islands in close proximity, it offers a compelling alternative to destinations like Greece.

A major plus for Croatia yacht charter is its favorable legislation, which allows for larger groups on charters (more than 12 guests), a rarity within the EU!!

Croatia Yacht Charter Types

Crewed yacht charters in Croatia include, at minimum, a captain and at least 1 stewardess. On a larger motor yacht, the number of crew can be higher than the number of guests (including engineers, bosun, and additional stewardesses)

How much does a yacht charter in croatia cost.

The price of a Croatian yacht rental depends on several factors. There are the obvious ones, such as yacht charter type, size, crew size, and level of luxury , and then there are the less obvious ones, such as tax, APA, fuel (which varies a lot depending on the itinerary and engine fuel consumption), and crew gratuity .

This comprehensive guide breaks down the factors that affect yacht charter prices, typical price ranges, and the importance of understanding any hidden costs you should be aware of.

It also provides tips for budgeting your trip , ensuring you are fully informed and prepared for your charter.

TIP: Chartering during the high season (July and August) is more expensive than in the low season when you can find great deals . Booking in advance or looking for last-minute deals can also affect prices.

Selecting the Right Crewed Yacht for Your Croatian Charter Vacation

There are quite a few factors to consider when looking for the right Crewed Yacht for your Croatian Yacht Charter Vacations. First and foremost, you have to consider your budget -Sailing yachts and catamarans tend to be significantly cheaper than motor yachts, especially when it comes to fuel consumption which plays a big role on a one-week Croatia yacht charter.

But you also have to pick the right yacht for your needs AND your itinerary; here, things like cruising speed, amenities, cabin layouts, and water toys matter.

Let’s take a closer look at the different yacht types and their advantages or…

Croatia Motor Yacht Charters

For those opting for ultimate luxury and speed , we always recommend chartering a Motor Yacht in Croatia. The Dalmatian Coast is home to Croatia’s largest marina, accommodating large motor yachts and superyachts with ease. Docking at Dalmacija Marina, among many of Croatia’s finest Yachts, is a remarkable experience in itself.

The Croatia Motor Yacht Charters in our catalogs are typically locally owned  and often captained by the owner himself or the owner’s son. This is a huge benefit, guaranteeing a top charter experience based on extensive experience and local knowledge .

Croatia catamaran charters.

There are several reasons for catamarans’ growing popularity in Croatia, one of which is their benefits in comfortable cruising. Catamarans are stable and graceful on the water and we therefore often recommend them for people who suffer from seasickness .

Their efficient design makes them noticeably faster than most sailing monohulls, and their shallow draft is a significant advantage, allowing for navigating in shallow waters and the option to anchor much closer to the beach.

A Catamaran Croatia also has the advantage of having roomy living quarters making them ideal for corporate team-building events, family charters, or a summer vacation with a group of friends.

Croatia sailing yacht charters.

If you wish to sail Croatia, you might consider a sailing yacht. Today, modern sailing yachts offer similar amenities to a motor yacht – except for the speed, which is lower, but so is the price! And, of course, it relies more on the wind, which can be both an advantage and a limitation. While motor sailors can achieve an average cruising speed of 15-20 knots , wind-powered sailboats usually cruise at 8-12 knots when the sailing conditions are good.

Croatia has  small tides throughout the season—1-2 feet depending on the region, so the deeper draft of a sailing yacht is not an issue.

Based on our experience, large groups or families with kids often prefer the soundless and relaxing sailing experience  in the Dalmatian islands.

Croatia Luxury Yacht Charters

When we talk about luxury yachts here, we refer to larger motor yachts or superyachts with high-end amenities and large crews, often with specialized staff such as fitness instructors, massage therapists, and more.

Think Jacuzzi , Spa rooms, Saunas, onboard Gyms and Cinema rooms, large selections of water toys with one or multiple jet skis , fully stocked bars and dancefloors, and we could go on.

Still, the price range within the luxury yacht Croatia category is quite wide, starting around €50,000 per week and reaching into the millions for a high-end mega yacht.

Croatia Large Group Charters (12-71 Guests)

If you’re looking for a yacht charter that can accommodate a large group ( more than 12 guests ), Croatia is the place for you!!

Croatia’s favorable legislation, which allows for larger groups on charters (more than 12 guests), is a rarity within the EU !! -i.e., Greece has a limit of 12 people per charter for all non-cruise ships. And this is the norm.

When it comes to large group yacht charters in Croatia, the options are plentiful. Most charters can accommodate between 12-20 people , but it’s not difficult to find a charter for 30 people, and there are even options for more. For instance, yachts like VARIETY VOYAGER can accommodate a whole 71 guests!

Louis was great from beginning to end and walked me through the whole process. He helped me find a great boat that fit within our time and cost preferences. He explained the differences between the different builds and the pros and cons. Once we selected the boat, he explained and walked me through the whole booking process and answered all my questions. Finally, he checked in with me before, during, and after the charter to make sure everything met our expectations. I can’t recommend Louis enough if you are planning a charter, and I will definitely be in touch for our next trip!

Guide to Croatia

Where history-steeped cities meet the glittering Adriatic coastline

Croatia is a Mediterranean gem boasting many hidden treasures along its seemingly endless coastline, as well as a profusion of spectacular cruising opportunities. With hundreds of unspoiled islands, beautiful marinas, historic cities, charming towns and inviting beaches, it's no surprise that Croatia is rapidly increasing in popularity as a favoured yacht charter destination.

An exciting and timeless destination, Croatia is welcoming more and more superyacht visitors to its daydreamy Dalmatian Coast each summer. Untouched islands are strewn across the glittering Adriatic waters and a multitude of anchorages beckon, making this glorious stretch of coastline simply unmissable. Out of a total of 1,185 islands, only 66 are inhabited and this means a yacht charter here will guarantee seclusion and privacy for that ‘get-away-from-it-all’ feel. Yet, the Dalmatian archipelgao is also extremely rich in variety, with many fabulous inlets, bays and beaches to be discovered, along with an abundance of picturesque harbours and medieval ports to explore.

The most fascinating stretch of this spectacular coastline lies between Split and Dubrovnik . The old town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO world heritage site and a must see when in the area. Located at the southernmost tip of Croatia, it's ancient city walls and baroque buildings will no doubt draw discerning travellers away from their superyachts to meander along the white limestone streets. Increasing the coastal city's appeal is its recent star role as King's Landing in HBO's Game of Thrones saga, and there are many museums and art galleries to trace the ups and downs of this timeless city's fascinating past.

Among the glorious sun-kissed islands to explore are Hvar , Vis , Korčula , and Brač . Korcula, steeped in culture and history, is reputed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo and, brimming with verdant vineyards and olive groves, is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic Sea. Brač and Zlatni Rat are idyllic locations for water sports, with the former boasting great windsurfing conditions and the latter replete with excellent scuba diving sites. Meanwhile, Hvar is one of the most beautiful and fashionable islands within this archipelago, offering designer shopping, exquisite wineries and unparalleled nightlife.

Behind Croatia’s gleaming beaches hides a horde of exhilarating inland adventures and romantic medieval towns, which are framed by a stunning backdrop of rolling hills. The gorgeous temperate days, vibrant clear skies and diverse flora make it a popular charter destination.

Crewed Yacht Charter: Croatia

We have Wealth of Experience Booking Crewed Charter Yachts in The Eastern Mediterranean & Croatia !

We feel that our time sailing in Croatia years ago was what inspired us to continue exploring the world via private crewed charter motorsailers, catamarans, motor yachts & sailboats. Our fascination with Croatia began with finding an old Roman coin of Emperor Diocletian. We fell in love with Dubrovnik & Split even before setting foot in Croatia. Ancient, walled medieval cities on the Adriatic Sea, filled with world-class restaurants and narrow cobblestoned lanes to explore…what’s not to love? There are many stunning towns on islands such as: Korcula, Hvar, Starigrad, and Vis.

When to Charter a Crewed Yacht in Croatia:

The yacht charter season in Croatia begins in April & ends in October. High season for charter yachts is from the last week of July until the first week of September. Keep in mind that the water will still be chilly in April & May, but by June the water temperatures reach a pleasant 74°F. If snorkeling & swimming at beaches and anchorages are important, the months of June, July & August are ideal. Temperatures average between 73°F-86°F, making it the ideal time to go!

Low Season: May & October

Mid Season: June & September

High Season: July & August

SAMPLE ITINERARY: Quickly emerging as a vibrant party center for the yachting crowd and buzzing with hospitality & entertainment, Croatia's extraordinary island-speckled coastline is indisputably its main attraction. For those who love the Caribbean, the first thing that strikes you in Croatia is the clarity and intensity of jeweled emerald and sapphire waters. White pebbly beaches alternate with long sandy and stacked stone stretches too. If that all sounds too relaxing, there are myriad water-based activities at hand to lure you off your sun-lounger – snorkeling, diving, kayaking, windsurfing and of course, more sailing, just for starters.   The most popular route is Split – Central & Southern Dalmatian islands – Dubrovnik. This is an area rich in history, amazing architecture, charming old towns and beautiful bays. One-way charters from Split to Dubrovnik available for an additional fee. Yacht Charters Guru offers a fantastic selection of crewed sailing yachts, gulets, catamarans and motor yachts for a memorable yacht charter in Croatia. A Sample 8 Day / 7 Night Itinerary:  Day 1: Explore the medieval walled city at Trogir which features architecture from the 13th century and don’t miss the 3rd-century bas-relief of Kairos within the Benedictine Monastery of St Nicholas. Head to the port village of Maslinica on the Island Šolta, which overlooks an archipelago of seven islets. Day 2: Sail to the old fishing port of Komiža on the island Vis. Discover the pebble beaches, relax and perhaps visit the blue caves on Bisevo Island. Get to know the local delicacies in the evening and eat at local restaurants. Day 3: Walk around Vis town and its 16th-century villas. The island has a lush landscape that is brimming with vineyards. If you want to explore underwater, Vis is a popular scuba diving spot with plentiful marine life. Day 4: Sail to Hvar, an island full of beautiful lavender and herbs, as well as a reputation for being rather upmarket. Walk around Hvar Town’s harbor, the piazza, the huge fortress that dominates the skyline and St Stephen’s Cathedral to get a great view from the bell tower. Day 5: Sail around to the north of Hvar to Vrboska, a 15th-century village near UNESCO-protected Stari Grad Plain. Marvel at the patchwork of paths and walls that cross the agricultural flats. Day 6: Set sail for the island of Brac and Milna on its west coast. You’ll find a wonderful harbor, known as the bay of a thousand ships, where you can enjoy fantastic local food and wine. Day 7: Head back to Trogir to disembark. Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik are incredible cities, all UNESCO sites. We highly recommend spending an extra couple of days at least in each one just to explore them. It is well worth it. They are towns with incredible histories, culture and architecture.

2500€ Extra costs.

2500€ Extra costs. We asked boataround for a Gennaker and received the message that a Gennaker was 270€ and the caution 750€. The caution for the boat was set to 2500€. Two separate cautions were taken, one for 2500€ and one for 750€. We had an incident (we were not given way and had to maneuver to avoid collision) that led to the loss of the Gennaker, the boat was not damaged. The charter company took both deposits of 2500€ and 750€ = 3250€ instead of the 750€ that was communicated to us from boataround. Croatia Yachting customer service reported that this was customary and we should have know this, even this is not mentioned on the boat page! Boataround customer service repeatedly promised a solution, but after a month of communication, they show us an inquiry for a new gennaker that is 7300€ and want to close the case. This is absurd as the total loss of the boat, which is +300.000€ results in the loss of a 2500€ caution. We were in no way informed that the loss of a gennaker would result in a 3250€ cost, if so, we would never have taken that risk! We still hope they come up with a solution, If so, we will update this review. We advise against Croatia Yachting and suggest chartering a boat with a company that offers insurance for the caution. Renting sail boat with Croatia Yachting not a good idea

Be aware that if you can have a bad sailing experience! Our vacation was not up to expectations and at after two days half the crew left the ship!! -Diesel smell in the right back cabin -smelled like old fish/urine in the kitchen/left cabine -The batteri got worse day by day and we could not use the refrigarator at night or the electrical anchor at all. -the sails where very old and worne and the boat sailed very slowly -the manual lock to the stearing weel did not work which they tried to fix with no success -the regulator to the refrigarator did not work and we needed to adjust the fridge with manual tools which worked but not optimal Spending EUR4500 for a week with a ship in a poor condition is not satisfactory. After complaining to Croatia Yachting they accepted responsibility and offered a refund of EUR200 on the next charter (which will never happen).

“We tried to make the most of it, but it was far from ideal”

Sailing Croatia

Without a doubt, Croatia can be described as one of the best  kept secrets of the European sailing destinations. Sheltered by the  chain of the Dinaric Alps, its endless coastline is covered with  pristine beaches and charming medieval towns. A Croatia yacht charter is  a wonderful choice whether you are looking for a relaxed sailing  vacation with your family, or an exiting sailing adventure with your  friends. This region has many secluded islands and islets, along with a  wide variety of comfortable marinas. You can choose a boat charter in  Croatia with easy hops or longer, more challenging passages.

A Croatian sailing vacation offers a wonderful chance to explore  ancient ruins and historic cities, to stay for a night in a secluded  anchorage, or to visit traditional fishing villages - all of this in one  of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.

Yachting is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Croatia,  thus numerous catamarans and sailboats can be seen all over the  coastline. Croatia yacht charters are well developed. Here you will find  one of the biggest European chains of modern marinas with berths for  yachts and catamarans from 30 to over 100 feet long. Anchorages,  moorings, and marinas have all the necessary amenities and are located  within a few miles of one another. In addition, while sailing in Croatia  you will find many free moorings near family restaurants where you can  sample local wines and fresh seafood right on board your own yacht.

The Adriatic coastline can be divided into three counties: Istria,  Central Dalmatia and South Dalmatia. Yacht charters in Croatia are  available all along the coast. Below are some useful tips for selecting a  boat rental in Croatia that will help you find the perfect time and  place for your dream sailing trip.

North Croatia Sailing – Istria County

July to the middle of September is the best time for a yacht  charter in the northern part of Croatia. During this season the water is  warm and most days are sunny, while the prevailing wind is mild  mistral. In early spring and late autumn this area may be prone to bora,  strong local northeastern winds.

One of the most convenient places to start a North Croatia yacht  charter is in Pula, the city closest to the international airport.

During your sailing vacation in the northern region of Istria, we  recommend a visit to the former Tito`s state summer residence, his  favorite safari park in the Brijuni Islands, to walk under the ancient  pines of Mali Losinj and to sail under the picturesque Cres Island  bridge. The stunning view of the ancient Rovigno City and its main  landmark, St. Euphemia Basilica, can be seen only from the water. If you  are looking for a more challenging sailing passage in Croatia, you may  like to head from Pula directly to Venice. Within a several hour journey  you will find yourself along the Italian coast.

Southern Croatia boat rentals – Dubrovnik County

Since ancient times Croatia has had great strategic importance,  thus over the centuries various civilizations and cultures have left  part of their legacy and influence, creating a rich and diverse culture.

Sailing along the southern Adriatic Coast of Croatia is recommended  for sailors with moderate to good sailing experience. In this part of  the country, good weather and fair winds last longer into the season, so  you can explore the sights and enjoy the beauty of the Adriatic coast  until late autumn. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry  summers and cool, wet winters.

Dubrovnik sailing vacations

A yacht charter in Dubrovnik, the southernmost region of  Croatia, offers a great variety of comfortable marinas and secluded  moorings. The medieval city of Dubrovnik is called the "Pearl of the  Adriatic" and because of its long history of maritime trade, has played  an important role since ancient times. Today its blend of historic  architecture and modern cafes and nightlife make it a fascinating  destination.

The rugged coast south of Croatia is a great choice for sailors who  value stunning scenery and historical sites more than the distance  passed. What could be better than having breakfast on board your yacht  near an ancient fortress of an old town

During a yacht charter in Croatia, you won't want to miss a visit to  Mljet National Park and the golden island of Sipan. There you will find  stunning vistas of the Dalmatian Islands and enjoy a landscape covered  with orange and tangerine trees, palms, agaves, Renaissance parks,  flower gardens and medieval stone buildings.

Sailing in Split area

The Split area is one of the most popular Croatia yacht charter  destinations. Located only 10 minutes from the airport, it attracts  sailors from all over the Europe. A Split yacht charter is an easy  starting point for a sailing vacation in Croatia, with open access to  the most stunning destinations and secluded islands.

Within a 7-day Croatia yacht charter you will be able to visit Hvar,  an island popular for its exclusive cafes and bars on the Adriatic,  learn how to extract marble on the island of Bra, visit famous Korula  island, the birthplace of Marco Polo, and soak up history and culture  with Renaissance cathedrals and ancient monuments while walking the  ancient streets of Trogir.

When sailing in the Split area do not miss a chance to visit the  waterfalls located in Krk National Park, a gorgeous destination any time  of year.

Overall, a Croatia yacht charter offers an ideal mix of history,  exquisite Mediterranean cuisine and unforgettable sailing opportunities.  With excellent infrastructure, short passages and calm waters, Croatia  yacht charters rival any other sailing destinations in the world.

It is also a perfect country for those who are looking for an unforgettable sailing adventure in Europe.

Skipper of my heart: Filipo

We had an amazing week sailing, not at least because of our amazing skipper Filipo! You gave us a great sailing experience by giving us insights into the way of life you enjoy with all your heart: sailing with lots of love! Thank you for absolutely everything and being part of our crew! Hope you will join us on our next trip or wherever we are going, you were the perfect skipper for the perfect week!

Amazing Honeymoon - Croatia Catamaran Charter

My wife and I chartered a catamaran for our honeymoon out of ACI Marina Dubrovnik in Croatia in mid September. Our contact Mario made the process of booking the trip as easy as possible. Even though we live in the US, Mario would promptly respond to us, even at 2 AM Croatian time due to the time difference.

Our skipper was Felip and our hostess was Valentina. Felip knew the Dalmatian coast like the back of his hand. He created an itinerary that allowed us to see some of the most beautiful islands we could ever imagine like Sipan, Mjlet, Korcula and others. He made sure that we were comfortable and having a good time at every moment.

Valentina gave us a taste of Croatian home cooking with a gourmet flare that was able to rival any five star restaurant. Her podusene squid was absolutely to die for, and her scrambled eggs and huge breakfast spread in the morning were equally as impressive.

Felip and Valentina made this the trip of a lifetime that my wife and I will remember for the rest of our lives. If you have the opportunity to charter with Europe/Croatia Yachts Charters then don’t think twice.

Adriatic tour

Skipper Metaj along with Nina were absolutely amazing! We spent a week sailing the Adriatic and saw some spectacular spots in Croatia. Metaj proved his skills during a day of heavy rain and recommended the best places to visit and dine. He was courteous, knowledgeable and a true professional. Nina was a delight to be with. She not only is an awesome cook, but she has a great energy that keeps you happy and at ease. Knowing that she was there to keep us was a wonderful benefit. These two were simply the best!! Couldn’t have asked for more!!

Amazing Croatia trip with Metaj and Nina

We had an amazing week long tour seeing the Croatian islands. Our Skipper Matej and Hostess Nina took excellent care of us picking the best swim spots and restaurants to eat at. They were fun and we’re like family. I highly recommend them. We look forward to the trip with them.

Perfect Sailing Trip

My family of 12 (8 adults and 4 children) had an absolute blast the first week of August sailing in the Ionian Sea! My husband was the captain so no need to hire one. We enjoyed all of the places we stopped…so many great choices. Mario was amazing helping me with the details. The vans/transfers he arranged from the airport to the boat were extremely nice with very professional drivers. I could not have pulled it all together without him… felt like I had my own private travel agent. A great company for your travels… Thank you Mario!

Catamaran Charter Croatia Travelers Choice Award Tripadvisor

Amazing Croatia

I was promised by the charter we were going to have the life of our time and indeed we had. The catamaran Nomade was beautiful and the islands are great but who made the real experience amazing was the skipper Matej Dozdor – he took us to bays and restaurants for dinner we could never imagine sleeping in with very few boats, like our own private islands. And we had transfer to the shore with our dinghy or with local restaurants boats (the first night we went to have Peka lamb to a typical restaurant in the middle of a hill – our table under olive trees – the adventure started, we went in the dark on the bay and had to jump to the shore, climb a small cliff and then walk in the dark and after a while arrive to the place – isolated and unique). I told Matej we paid for comfort pack and he gave us an Adventure pack ????. It is impossible to describe in words what we experienced, you need to come and experience yourself.

Fantastic two weeks!

We had two unfrogettable weeks sailing with our family from Zadar to Korcula through Murter, Zlarin, Solta, Trogir, Hvar and Pakleni islands to Scedro and then back trough Lastovo, Vis, Bisevo, Kornati and Telascica. Our skipper Matej Dozdor was not only great at his craft but also a great guide and a nice travel companion. He was really putting great effort to make our trip doable (in two weeks we covered really a lot of the Croatian coastline and islands) as well as interesting and fun. We believe we have seen many places that we would not otherwise know of, if it were not for Matej and his local contacts. Matej was also professional in dealing with unexpected situations and superb at instant problem-solving.

Wonderful week & a perfect Skipper

This was our first time in both Croatia and sailing, and based on this wonderful week it certainly won’t be the last. Check in was relatively straight forward and the boat was perfect. We could not have been luckier or asked for a better Skipper than Mateo Gašperov. Right from the start Mateo immediately made us all feel comfortable that we were in safe hands – not only in terms of sailing but also helping us to get the most from the holiday. He took the time to see what we wanted to do and helped and advised an itinerary that delivered on it. When marinas were busy he managed to still find a way to get us where we wanted and then gave great advice on where to eat and what to do there. As a family of 5 with 3 teenage daughters, it is not always easy to keep everyone happy and comfortable, but Mateo was easy-going, friendly and professional throughout. He let us do our own thing but was always there when we needed him, with a big smile and a helpful attitude. All in all, we had a great holiday and would definitely recommend both the experience and Mateo to others!

Great pleasure in Croatia

Excellent sailing week in Croatia along with Filip Dumancic and Marija Bunardija as staff members. They were professional, caring and friendly .I felt spoiled having these seven days in their company

GREAT EXPERIENCE

Our family had the BEST trip in Croatia on the beautiful Lady Amanda. We absolutely loved our experience. Our hostess Paula, and skipper Ante went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable. We did not want to leave! We HIGHLY recommend this charter service.

If you’re visiting here Mario and Alen are the way to go!

Our sailing trip was Awesome! We sailed from Dubrovnik up the coast island hopping all the way to Split, Croatia. This week long trip was set up by Mario Kuzmanic who after listening to what we were looking for, took it from there. Mario gave us a fantastic Yacht to sail with everything expected in a 5 star hotel. Mario also set us up with our Skipper, Alen Banovac. Alen was the best choice possible to captain our trip. He was the ultimate professional in every aspect, from boat operations to anything we could possibly want or need. Alen’s knowledge of the places to see and coves to swim in was absolutely unbelievable. He took care of all reservations and marina contacts effortlessly, and knew the best restaurants with the best views at every stop along the way. Alen also each morning seemed to have several options for that specific day for us to choose from along with his expert recommendation. It’s hard to describe how wonderful a trip to this lovely country with the most friendly people you ask for really is, but having Mario and Alen guiding us was simply perfect!

Croatian Island Sailing with Skipper Extraordinaire Alen Banovac!

Our little sailing group took a sailing charter trip in Croatia from Dubrovnik to Split with Island hoping along the way. Mario Kuzmanic, the Reservation Agent was fantastic! He always answered his phone every time I called to asked questions and gave great suggestions and planning advice that put us at ease. He is very well organized and detailed. We had the good fortune to get Alen Banovac as our Skipper on a Lagoon 52. He was really a great person to be around and extremely professional. His experience and knowledge of the maritime industry in Croatia and Europe in general was unbelievably valuable to us. He knows every island and part of his country reachable by boat like the back of his hand as well as all the people we needed to know at every marina, port or mooring; not to mention all the best swimming spots! He was constantly working, like a 5-star concierge, in the background to get us the best mooring spots and dinner reservations at the best restaurants. I was impressed with his direct demeanor, and he has a great sense of humor too! We are relatively novice sailors and he taught us a lot of tricks of his trade and was a patient teacher in teaching us the med-mooring and handling of the boat when parking in tight and tricky situations. He also has a great knowledge of the excellent foods and wines of his country. If you are going on a charter sailing trip to Croatia for the 1st time and are debating on getting a skipper or not…. Well, if you can work with Mario and Alen, they will help make it a top notch, stress-free vacation of a lifetime.

Croatian Island Sailing adventure with outstanding skipper Filip Domancic

Wonderful Croatian Island Sailing experience with family and friends! Skipper Filip was a pleasure to work with. He is enthusiastic, attentive, safe, brings excellent local knowledge to enhance the trip experience and reads his customers well to understand how much to engage vs giving space. Highly recommend sailing with him

Croatia's Islands are like a Dream

Sailing around Croatia’s islands on a catamaran was one of the most incredible trips of our lives. Our skipper was Jurko Anzulovic and he was an absolute professional. He not only knew Croatia’s hundreds of islands like the back of his hand, but he also knew where the most beautiful, secluded bays were. He even knew where all the underwater caves were! I wasn’t surprised because he grew up on the island of Brac an expert spear-fisherman. We even got to witness his diving expertise one day when my prescription sunglasses fell into the sea and he was able to dive down about 40 feet with nothing but a mask and fins–and find them! Jurko also was kind enough to play board games with our two daughters and, to their delight, tow them around with the dinghy as they sat, kneeled and stood on a paddle board. For the adults, the catamaran was peaceful and never felt crowded. My girlfriend and I always felt like we had enough space and privacy to be alone, which was wonderful since our vacation was also, we hoped, a romantic getaway. Our hostess was Ivona Jerkovic and her culinary skills knew no bounds. We ate dinner on several different islands, but we very quickly came to prefer Ivona’s dinners! All in all, our 2-week catamaran charter in Croatia was a trip we’ll never forget. Thank you, Jurko and Ivona! We hope to sail with you again soon!

Epic, thanks to Nikola

An absolutely epic week on a great boat but what made it most special was skipper Nikola Palada who was a true hero. I took a week from Dubrovnik to Split with my 2 kids (16 & 22) and Nikola planned each 2 days ahead to make sure we hit all the wonderful spots (and also constantly checking weather, wind etc on an array of hi tech apps but it seemed like he was the kind of guy who could do it without apps too if needed) He sussed all the best places to eat for us and organised (booked ahead so they were prepared for our visit) He was never intrusive but always on hand. We made a true friend in the skipper too, often hanging out in the evenings with him. Such a nice chap! And Croatia, Incredible. GVOs.
