Introduction: Ghostbusters: Ecto-Goggles

Ghostbusters: Ecto-Goggles

"What are you supposed to be, some kind of a cosmonaut?" -Man (Ghostbusters)]

Ghostbusters is one of the greatest movies of all time, and since I have neither the time of patience to build a proton pack, I decided to build the Ecto Goggles. Here is how I made these Bad Boys!

Step 1: Get Yourself a Pair of Goggles

Get Yourself a Pair of Goggles

The first thing I did was go out to Walmart and buy a pair of $5 safety goggles. Thats it, thats the first step. you are done now. If you've read this far you my be stupid, Just sayin'

Step 2: The Small Lens

The Small Lens

First fine a good picture of the lenses. I found the Ecto-Goggle toy from Mattel on amazon, you can zoom in on the lenses. Click here to go to page. Now to start building. I found an old Philips container that was lying around the house. Take the container and cut the top off. Take a one of those... orange pill things and trace a hole on the uncut side of the Philips container. Now push it in and the side you screw the cap on should be sticking out. Now take a small wooden dowel and cut it to your desired length. Poke a hole in the side and make sure the dowel can fit in it. Spray paint the lens black and the dowel silver.

Step 3: Large Lens

Large Lens

This step is similar the small lens. Take a BIG Philips container and an Airborne container. I cut the bottom of the Philips off and throw it away. Take the cap off the Airborne container and pull the rest of it through, the part where the cap goes should stop it from going any further. Mark where you want to to cut the Airborne and take it out. Cut it off and throw it away. Now pull it through and hot glue it on (you can even use the hot glue to make it look like a weld. Now repeat the step with the dowel from the last step and paint the whole thing black. Put some masking tape on the second grove and paint it silver.

Step 4: Lenses

Lenses

I took a pair of cheap sunglasses and took out the lenses. I outlined the lens with silver marker and cut it out. fit it to the right length and then hot glued it in.

Step 5: Getting the Goggles Ready

Getting the Goggles Ready

I took some masking tape and taped the inside of the goggles. I traced the lensed and cut it out with an X-Acto knife. I removed the area around the tape and painted it with camo green spray paint. I took off the tape and the area I masked was still clear. I glued the lenses to the goggles.

Step 6: The Strap

The Strap

Next, I took the strap of an old book bag and cut it off. I took some gold fastener things you find on binders and used them to strap them on the goggles. I took the adjustment bar and did some things with it to make it adjustable (Play with it to make it work, I can't really describe it.). Take some velcro and put it on the over head strap, and the other strap.

Step 7: Extra Detail

Extra Detail

If you go online, you can find the stickers used on the goggles. Print them out and glue them on.

Step 8: "Let Me Tell You Somethin'......Bustin' Makes Me Feel Good!"

"Let Me Tell You Somethin'......Bustin' Makes Me Feel Good!"

Done! I hope you like this instructable! If you have any suggestions on how I could make it better, comment below. If you want to see more replicas, follow me. More Builds to Come!

Ecto Goggles in Ghostbusters: The Board Game and Ghostbusters: The Board Game II, deemed a Tertiary Canon follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II and elements from Ghostbusters: The Video Game and the IDW Comic Series.

History [ ]

Primary canon history [ ], ghostbusters (1984) [ ].

The Ecto Goggles were first used by Ray Stantz at the Sedgewick Hotel on the Ghostbusters' first case and were mainly worn by him during the Gozer incident. After Ray sighted Slimer flying around a chandelier, the Ecto Goggles pinged and the readout on the left side went green. A number "01333.5" was displayed. Egon Spengler and Peter Venkman did however wear them briefly in the cases that followed. Egon wore his at the 126 Mulberry Street bust. Peter wore his at the Rockefeller Plaza .

Ghostbusters II [ ]

The Ecto Goggles are worn a few times by Ray. They are used by Ray when he and Peter go on a stakeout to catch the Jogger Ghost in Central Park . Ray hung his Ecto Goggles with a Trap on the right side of his Pistol Belt when the Ghostbusters filmed their new commercial, when they investigated the Manhattan Museum of Art , and when they arrived at the museum on New Year's Eve.

Before Ghostbusters: Afterlife [ ]

At some point after the Vigo incident, a camera function was added to the Ecto Goggles. Pushing a button on the right side of the goggles printed a Polaroid photograph.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife [ ]

In June 2021, Phoebe discovered the Ecto Goggles in a locker containing Uniforms in a laboratory under the Farmhouse property. Phoebe and her friend Podcast went to the Summerville Foundry to test the Proton Pack she completed. Podcast wore the Ecto Goggles and watched her destroy a line up of bottles. He declared that was the best thing he ever saw then snapped a photograph and it emerged from the left side of the goggles. He waved the Polaroid around. During the search for Muncher in Summerville , Podcast wanted to take a photograph of the ghost before they captured it and tried to get a good position in Ecto-1 but he stepped on a lever that inadvertently triggered the gunner seat and sent it and Phoebe outside. The Ecto Goggles were among the equipment confiscated by Sheriff Domingo . It was stored in evidence in a jail cell secured with an ANSI Class One electromagnetic deadbolt. The next day, Phoebe, Podcast, Trevor , and Lucky sneaked into the Summerville County Sheriff's Department to recover the equipment and Ecto-1 while the sheriffs were out responding to calls related to the ghosts infesting the town after Gozer was summoned. Phoebe recognized the deadbolt and stated it was unpickable. Podcast freed Muncher from the Remote Trap Vehicle and he ate through enough of the cell bars before it departed. They retrieved the equipment and left in Ecto-1 with Trevor. Podcast wore the Ecto Goggles for the duration of the battle in Summerville. It and Podcast were covered in the Mini-Pufts ' residue after the remaining ones blew up following Gozer being trapped.

Secondary Canon History [ ]

Ghostbusters: the video game [ ].

During the Shandor incident on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Ecto-Goggles served a much more prominent role in the tracking and capture of ectoplasmic entities. Each one of the Ghostbusters, (even Winston ) wore and used the goggles at some point during the incident. During cases, the P.K.E. Meter and the Ecto-Goggles worked in concert to track and display P.K. Energy and Ectoplasmic phenomena in a way that was visually comprehensible and easy to understand; even for a Rookie .

See P.K.E. Meter & Paragoggles (realistic version) or P.K.E. Meter & Paragoggles (stylized version) for more information.

IDW Comics [ ]

Ray and Rookie are often the only Ghostbusters wearing the Ecto Goggles. During the Marie Laveau II case, Winston used a pair. In search of a Class 7 on the East Side, the Ghostbusters came upon the Emmanuel Baptist Church but were locked out. They opted to blow a hole in the building. As a precautionary measure, Ray tried out his Ecto Goggles' new thermal imaging feature and checked if it was all clear on the other side. He later examined Donatello with the goggles on. A new type was employed in the initial encounter with the Sandman . The Ghostbusters employed a new type of Ecto Goggles, equipped with night vision, while on Poveglia . Ecto Goggles were handed out to 101 Cadets for their assignment to temporarily neutralize the Manhattan network of Ley Lines and give the Ghostbusters enough time to trap the Bronx Spook . With the Ecto Goggles on, the Ley Lines was visible to the human eye and appeared as a white glow. The Ecto Goggles came of particular use during the Fort Washington Park case. One of its settings helped cut through some of the fog generated by the Doom Ghost . [5]

Tertiary Canon History [ ]

Ghostbusters: sanctum of slime [ ].

Ray wore a pair of Ecto Goggles while he and the team trapped the 9.5th ghost in a row due to supernatural activity caused by the Relic of Nilhe .

Function [ ]

Primary canon function [ ].

Often seen on Ray Stantz's belt, the Ecto Goggles are designed to allow the wearer to see invisible ghosts and visually track P.K.E. valences. A camera function was later added to take standard photographs and photographs related to ectoplasmic activity. On the right side of the Ecto Goggles are a set of buttons, including a red one and a black one, that operates the camera and prints the photograph. The flash unit pops up, the photograph is taken, and then the photograph prints out the left side.

Secondary Canon Function [ ]

Ghostbusters: the rpg function [ ].

In the roleplaying game released by West End games , the Ecto Goggles are also said to have infrared Night Vision capabilities.

IDW Comics Function [ ]

The Ecto Goggles are capable of tracking down a specific entity by the psychokinetic energy it emits. They are also equipped with night vision and can allow sight of a ghost that has rendered itself invisible to the naked eye. [6]

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Function [ ]

Goggles specifically tuned to reveal psychokinetic energy elements that are invisible to the naked eye. Put on to see haunted objects, wall portals, extended ghost trails, hidden Rifts and objects the ghost is possessing when close enough.

Patch 1.3.0. fixed a bug where toggling the Ecto Goggles would break cause the gear equipping animation to not display properly, added a rechargeable battery, increased peripheral material effect, and fixed a bug where the Ecto Goggles SFX persists when returning to Firehouse. [7]

Patch 1.4.1 added an increased battery size and regeneration rate for the Ecto Goggles. [8]

Patch 1.5.0 fixed an issue where the Ecto Goggles would not behave properly when the Buster rapidly presses certain buttons, fixed an issue where the Ecto Goggles would not behave properly after using the R.T.V. Kit attachment, fixed an issue where the Ecto Goggles were not behaving properly when equipped with certain hairstyles and glasses, and fixed an issue where the Ecto Goggles could sometimes cause the Buster to enter a state where they are unable to perform any actions. [9]

Patch 1.5.1 fixed an issue where the Ecto Goggles could cause the Buster's character model to not behave properly. [10]

  • A version of this concept later appeared in the IDW Comics, the Ecto Monocle .
  • The Ecto Goggles are a modified version of the U.S. Army's AN/PVS-5a night-vision goggles introduced in 1972. [12]

Ghostbusters II Trivia [ ]

  • On page 110 of the November 27, 1988 draft , the Ecto Goggles are referred to as "infra-goggles." Ray uses them to analyze the slime shell covering the Manhattan Museum of Art and determines they only made a temporary dime-shaped hole by singing Kumbaya.
  • Winston Zeddemore is the only Ghostbuster not to wear the Ecto Goggles in the movies.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trivia [ ]

  • The prop was made by Studio Art & Technology. [13]
  • The camera used for the Ecto Goggles was the Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera. The guts of the camera were stripped out then put into the Ecto Goggles prop. The frame holding the flash module that pops up was custom built. [14]
  • Logan Kim could barely see when he wore the Ecto Goggles during filming. He even hit Mckenna Grace 's face by accident once. [15]
  • During one take, Logan Kim slipped and fell so hard, the Ecto Goggles came off and slid across the floor. [16]
  • The Ecto Goggles fell off Logan Kim's head over 10 times during filming. [17]
  • It took an hour to apply the marshmallow residue to Logan Kim. It was a substance with cornstarch in it. Some would be glued to his face. A separate Ecto Goggles prop was used that was covered in the substance. After awhile, it would harden like Jell-O and the flightsuit would get really moist and uncomfortable. [18]

IDW Comics Trivia [ ]

ghostbusters ecto goggles sticker placement

Much like the Proton Pack , the Ghostbusters Ecto Goggles are an iconic prop, easily recognizable by even the most casual of Ghostbusters fans, and throughout the years, has seen several different iterations and name changes.

The YouTube channel Channeling Spirit is back to do another deep dive, this time fixating on the goggle’s origin, how they work, and their history spanning from the original Ghostbusters script to the 2009 video game from Atari.

Watch the video below.

We’ve covered zapping, trapping, containing, and tracking a ghost. Now we are going to explore how to hunt down a haunt with the Ecto Goggles. Unlike a lot of Ghostbusting equipment whose name has been clearly established, the goggles have had a plethora of titles that haven’t settled until recently. Like all of the equipment, it’s been through several iterations, upgrades, and changes. From the films, novels, cartoons, and video games; we provide an in depth look throughout most adaptations before delving into the physics of how exactly it works.

Recently, Channeling Spirit also took a look at the overall range of a proton stream, with the Ghostbusters battle against Gozer the Gozerian holding some essential information.

For evermore Proton Pack talk, Channeling Spirit has another video, showcasing exactly how one of the most iconic props in film history would work.

Moscow parks – leisure, nature and historical

Moscow is the most green megapolis in the world. There are over a hundred parks and green spaces like gardens, squares and boulevards. You will definitely bump into a few of them wherever you go. Whether you are interested in memorial, historic parks, parks of wildlife or you just want to have a calm break from the speedy city life – city parks have something special for everyone.

Moscow leisure parks

The leisure Moscow parks are undoubtedly the most popular and famous with the locals and travelers. Today such parks provide a great number of exciting entertainments for Muscovites and city guests, adults and children.

The Gorky Park

The Gorky Park

Gorky Park opened in 1928 and was the first holiday park in the Soviet Union with playgrounds, a sports stadium, exhibition halls and attractions for kids. Today it has a fresh, vibrant appearance. The park features bike rental stations, a comfortable business area with Wi-Fi, an outdoor movie theatre and a greenhouse where you can buy fresh greens such as basil and lettuce. To contemplate the sky and the stars, go to the observatory and look through the telescope while listening to fascinating stories from astronomers. Enjoy many sports in the park: volleyball, handball, football or a peaceful jog around the beautiful surroundings.

Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye Park

Opened in September 2017, Zaryadye is the youngest on our list. Located just a few minutes away from Red Square, it includes various activities like the floating bridge with its thin V-form extension, an ice cave, also concert hall and an amphitheater. The entire territory of the park was divided into four zones of Russia: forest, steppe, tundra, and the floodplains.

Neskuchny Sad

By walking along the Moskva River’s bank from the Gorky Park towards Vorobievy Gory (Sparrow Hills) you’ll reach Neskuchny Sad («Not Boring» garden), a wonderful place in the Moscow center, one of Moscow’s oldest parks, charming slice of wildlife. The park mostly consists of pristine forest, dotted with old summer pavilions, ponds and quaint little stone bridges. There are a lot of opportunities for different activities lots of children playground, a ping-pong and chess clubs, football fields and tennis courts, horse riding, tree climbing and having rest in one of the nice cafes.

Hermitage Garden has always been known as an amusement, entertainment center with theatres, shows, cafes, summer pavilions, pergolas since 1830. Shalyapin, Sobinov, Nezhdanova – great Russian opera singers starred on the garden stage. Famous Russian composer Rakhmaninov conducted the orchestra. Sara Bernar, Maria Yermolova, outstanding actresses, played in the open air performances. Tolstoy and Lenin had a stroll in the garden. So lots of celebrities from different epoques liked it a lot and spent their time in Hermitage Garden. You can find here three theatres in the garden: Hermitage, Sphere and New Opera. During winter an ice rink works here and in summer a musical stage is assembled to host jazz and brass band festivals.

In Sokolniki Park visitors can play billiard, chess or draughts, table tennis, as well as go cycling, roller blading and swimming in the summer and ice skating or skiing in winter. Each season is highlighted by special memorable and bright events, for example, Summer Jazz Festival or Baby Fest (for future mums), open air beach disco parties, Ice Cream Day, International Clown Festival and many other shows and exhibitions. The park has an observatory, kids center and a co-working zone with free Wi-Fi which is really nice for spending high quality work time there.

Moscow nature parks

The nature parks are national reserves with the amazing forestry and incredible variety of animals and plants there. The breath of wildlife and the chance to be closer to the virgin nature excites both children and grownups. Hundreds of different species of animals can be found in Moscow nature parks. The richest woodlands with old and even ancient trees, like a 200 years pine-tree in the Elk Island National Nature Park, are the point of passionate interest for visitors.

Aptekarsky Ogorod

Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden)

Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden)

Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden) is one of the oldest gardens in Moscow. It was founded in the XVIII century by Peter the First (great Russian emperor). A larch that he planted himself still grows in the garden, so it’s more than 250 years old. At the time of its foundation, it was a garden with herbs and medicinal plants and was used as an educational center for doctors. Today there are the orangery with its tropical palms, the carp pond, and the immense trees that dot the landscape and turn wonderful golden shades in the autumn. Several restaurants and cafes work here making it a very nice spot for relaxation no matter what season it is. You can book a special tour or join the guided excursion group.

Losiny Ostrov

Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park)

Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park)

Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park) is located at the north of Moscow. It covers 22 km from the west to the east and 10 km from the north to the south and it’s one of the most beautiful national parks in Moscow. Two rivers, Yausa and Pechorka begin here. You can find lots of fields, ponds, meadows, streams in the park as well as elks. Here you can enjoy guided tours, available in English. You can choose a guided tour about flora and fauna of the area, you’ll learn why elks are there, which animals are their neighbors. Or enjoy another excursion, which is totally devoted to historical past of ancient tribes once lived there, you’ll know about old Russian mythology, rituals and traditions.

Serebyany Bor

ghostbusters ecto goggles sticker placement

Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest)

Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest) is a famous pine forest in the west of Moscow. The park has 230 forms of plant life, and is also home to watersports complex, providing a lot of activities for visitors. The layout of Serebryany Bor is unusual, as it is located on an artificial island between a meander in the Moscow River and a channel. There is an artificial lake, the Deep Gulf and picturesque Bezdonnoe (Bottomless) Lake in the depths of the forest. Serebryany Bor’s beaches are the cleanest in the city and very popular among Muscovites. On weekends it is difficult to find a free spot here, especially because a whole range of services are offered to visitors, from simple deckchairs to catamaran and yacht rides. Driving is prohibited on the territory of the island so be ready to use trolleybus to reach the entrance.

Botanichesky Sad

Greenhouse of Botanical Garden

Greenhouse of Botanical Garden

Main Botanical Garden of The Russian Academy of Sciences is the largest and most famous is Moscow. The garden is a real museum of nature with a very rich (more than 18000 types) collection of plants. The park was founded in 1945 at the place of the 17th century Apothecaries’ Gardens. The garden’s collection is turned into botanical expositions, made with use of modern receptions of landscape architecture. Here you can see a tree nursery, a shadow garden, hothouse complex, collection of flowers, a rosary, exposition of coastal plants, garden of continuous blossoming, Japanese garden and expositions of cultural plants and natural flora plants. The biggest part of Garden is the Tree nursery occupying the space of 75 hectares. About 2 thousand wood plants grow here. Another big exposition of the Garden is nature Flora, divided into six botanic-geographical collections: European part of Russia, Caucuses, Central Asia, Siberia and Far East. Pride of the Main Botanical Garden is the collection of tropical, coastal and water plants, which is considered as the best in Europe. The Japanese garden, a great model of Japanese landscape gardening art has a 13-level stone pagoda of the 18th century, stone Japanese lamps, ponds, falls and streams, tea lodges and more than 100 species of the most character Japan plants. It is especially decorative in spring, during Oriental cherry blossoming and in fall, when foliage blazes in crimson colors.

Moscow historic parks

Historic nature parks and estates once were the mansions of the Moscow aristocracy. At that far times the estates were outside the Moscow city limits, but after the city expansion and urbanization, they became easily accessible.

Kolomenskoye

Kolomenskoe

Kolomenskoye Museum and Park

The chief attraction of the park is undoubtedly the stone Church of the Ascension of the Lord. It was constructed in 1532 by order of Tsar Vasily III to commemorate the birth of his son and heir, Ivan the Terrible. But there is a lot more to see in the park: the pretty Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan – with its bright azure domes and plenty of gold. Further into the park there is a charming Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, built by Ivan the Terrible to mark his coronation.

Kuskovo

Kuskovo Park

Kuskovo Park is one of the oldest country estates in Moscow. It was given to General Sheremetev by Peter the Great in 1715, but was left to fall into neglect before being plundered by Napoleon’s troops in 1812. Nowadays the estate has been restored to its former glory and is a good example of Russian 18th Century imperial architecture. The palace is a fine and rare example of wooden neoclassicism. It was completed in 1775, and the rich interiors remain unchanged since 1779. It includes a room hung with exclusive exquisite Flemish tapestries, an abundance of silk wallpaper and an impressive collection of 18th century European and Russian paintings. The palace looks onto the lake, which is surrounded by smaller pavilions: pretty Italian, Dutch and Swiss Cottages, Blank’s Hermitage and the old Orangery, where the State Ceramics Museum is located now, an extensive and absorbing collection of porcelain from the 18th century to the present day. On the other side of the lake is a large wood popular with local cyclists and joggers.
