Our Products
We construct custom fit swim-platforms to be installed to the transom or the stern deck of a water vessel. Our platforms are made to order in the US and can be shipped internationally.
Custom Builds
We custom-build any style swim platform to meet the specific dimensions of your boat. We also offer a wide variety of customization services, accessories, storage options, and custom ladder pocket placements, available upon request.
Why Swim-Platform?
Economic solutions.
To begin building our platforms, we will first send out a templating kit to the customer to get precise measurements and angles found on the stern of the boat. Using these measurements, we are able to build any platform to fit the boat as well as the customer's budget.
Extensive customization
Whether our customers are wanting extra space or a spectacle on the water, we offer options such as handrails, lighted vents, specialized "hydro-turf" decking, accessory mounting plates (table/grill base), molding to match the original on the boat, etc. We also have the option of hinging the platform to save space with storage. We hope to give the customer every option possible to elevate their boating experience.
Exceptional Quality
Our platforms are built-to-order fiberglass decks reinforced with structural marine balsa wood. Our decks are covered in a color-matched gel-coat with a non-skid texture to give a "factory" finish as well as a safe area. Using 1-inch thick-wall stainless-steel supports underneath, our decks are supported and sturdy for any day on the water.

Get a Boost: Swim Platforms on Your Boat
If you’re in the market for a new boat , then you’ve probably come across the term “swim platform.” What is it? What does it do? And why is it important? In this blog post, we will answer all of those questions and more! We’ll talk about what swim platforms are used for, how to choose the best one for your needs, and some of the benefits they provide. So if you’re ready to learn more about swim platforms, keep reading!
What Are Swim Platforms And What Do They Do
Swim platforms are raised, flat areas on the back of a boat that provides a place to stand, sit, or lounge. They also make it easier to get in and out of the water. Most swim platforms are made from fiberglass or other waterproof materials.
Most even have built-in stairs or ladders to make getting in and out of the water even easier.
Swim platforms are important because they provide a safe place to enter and exit the water. They also give you a place to relax and enjoy the sun while staying cool in the water. Additionally, swim platforms can be used for other activities like fishing, diving, and more.
The Different Types of Swim Platforms
Now let’s talk about the different types of swim platforms. There are two main types:
- Fixed: Fixed swim platforms are permanently attached to the back of the boat. They cannot be removed and are typically made from fiberglass or other waterproof materials.
- Foldable: Foldable swim platforms can be folded up or down, depending on your needs. They’re usually made from aluminum or other lightweight materials.
Swim platforms can also come in different materials, sizes, and shapes.
Choosing A Swim Platform
So, how do you choose the best one for your needs?
When choosing a swim platform or looking at new boats, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, consider the size of your boat. You’ll want to make sure that the one you choose is the right size for your boat.
Second, think about what you’ll be using the swim platform for. If you plan on using it for swimming and sunbathing, then you’ll want to make sure it has enough space for both.
Third, consider the material of the swim platform. If you live in a saltwater area, then you’ll want to choose a swim platform made from fiberglass.
Swim Platform Installation
Assuming your boat doesn’t already have a swim platform on board, here are a few things you’ll want to consider.
First, you’ll need to decide where you want to position the swim platform on your boat.
Second, you’ll need to drill holes into the hull of your boat (if required).
Third, you’ll need to attach the platform to your boat using screws, bolts, or other fasteners. make sure that the hardware you use is marine-grade and will not rust.
Finally, you’ll need to seal the swim platform to your boat using silicone or another waterproof sealant.
While it is not impossible to install your own swim platform in many cases, the process can be a bit tedious and to make sure it gets done properly it may be best to consult with a professional boat mechanic.
Accessories That Pair Well
There are a few accessories that work well with swim platforms, such as:
- Boat ladders: Boat ladders make it easier to get in and out of the water from your swim platform.
- Dive flags: Dive flags are required by law in some areas and help to alert other boaters of your presence.
- Wake Tower: If you have a swim platform, this works great for prepping a wakeboard or waterski.
- Audio System: You’ll likely want to get plenty of use out of your swim platform. Music can make this even more fun and pair perfectly on a boat equipped with a swim platform.
Many other accessories work well with swim platforms, but these are just a few.
What materials are commonly used in the construction of custom swim platforms for boats?
Swim platforms for boats are commonly constructed from materials that are durable and resistant to the harsh marine environment. Fiberglass is a popular choice due to its strength, lightweight properties, and ease of maintenance. Teak is another favored material, especially for boat owners looking for a classic look and natural slip resistance. Additionally, some modern swim platforms use marine-grade aluminum for its excellent corrosion resistance and structural integrity, making it suitable for various types of boats, from small recreational vessels to larger yachts with expansive swim decks. Swim platforms come in various styles and can be customized to fit your boat's specific needs. For installation, mounts and hardware are often made of stainless steel for durability and strength. Platforms can include features such as swim platform ladders and step ladders for easy access to the water. The installation of a swim platform-ultra can double the usable surface area, particularly for inboard swim decks. Full swim platforms can be mounted on the transom, providing robust support without overloading your boat, even when weighing up to several hundred lbs. To enhance safety and comfort, EVA foam can be added for slip resistance. Customization options include special handles, glass holders, and even BBQ stands. Polyester-covered wood decks and composite materials ensure that platforms are the lightest and strongest, preventing issues like rot. For a quote and to find the perfect fit for your needs, contact us to explore our high-quality options that also offer exceptional durability and functionality.
How does the design of a transom swim platform vary between different types of boats?
The design of a swim platform varies between different types of boats to accommodate specific needs and enhance the boating experience. For example, larger yachts often feature platforms with integrated boat ladders and non-slip surfaces, while smaller boats might have removable platforms to maximize flexibility and dock compatibility. Boat manufacturers tailor swim platform mounting systems according to your needs, ensuring a secure fit and providing extra space for activities. Customizable features, such as hooks, molding, and high-quality materials, ensure exceptional quality and functionality, meeting various requirements and preferences.
What maintenance is required to ensure the longevity and safety of boat swim deck and dive platforms?
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and safety of boat swim platforms. This involves periodic inspections for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion, particularly on platforms made of materials like teak or fiberglass. It's important to clean the swim platform thoroughly to prevent the buildup of salt, algae, or other debris that could degrade materials or create slippery surfaces. Additionally, any hardware connections such as bolts and brackets should be checked and tightened as necessary to maintain structural integrity and prevent hazardous conditions on the boat swim deck. Keeping the platform clean and ensuring all components are secure helps extend the life of the platform and keeps it safe for users. In addition to these steps, considering the manufacturing quality of the platform can significantly impact its durability. For instance, choosing platforms designed to meet specific ft requirements and including features like plates and hooks can address various needs. If you have trouble finding the right platform, options with specific barrier protections can be helpful. Platforms with a high-quality manufacturing rate, such as those designed to support up to 250 lbs, also really ensure safety and longevity. By addressing these factors, you can maintain a safe and functional swim platform for years to come.

Balconies and Platforms
Yacht platforms and balconies are ideal elements to expand the exterior space and connect it with the interior, providing easy water access and space to enjoy the view. The platforms or balconies can be equipped with many features including lounge chairs, swim ladders and umbrellas, creating a luxury outdoor living space close to the water.
Such platforms, also known as beach clubs, compensate for the lack of easy water access and offer the client options such as swimming, sunbathing and scuba diving directly from the yacht. We provide customised folding and/or sliding systems integrated into the vessel’s hull or superstructure.

Swim and diving platform
Prefer your feet above or under water? An underwater swim and dive platform is the perfect platform for every yacht. The height of the swim platform can be adjusted easily with a push of a button. This lowers the platform to the desired height and turns a normal platform into the ideal swim and dive platform.
A folding section integrated in the platform can create swim steps straight into the ocean for easy entrance and exit. For the total swim and dive experience, extra features can be added to the platform, such as swim ladders, stanchions and showers; items that are widely requested and appreciated by swimmers.
Hinge or Sliding
When looking for a platform, Cramm offers different types of mechanisms depending on the purpose of the platform. The most common mechanisms used for platforms are the hinge or sliding. When looking for a different mechanism or a custom-made solution, please contact us to see how Cramm can provide customised systems integrated into your superyacht.
Tender dock and mooring platform
Once the tender has been lowered into the water, a mooring platform is perfect for easy boarding of the tender. The platform can be equipped with fenders to prevent damage to the yacht and tender during a fast approach. A tender mooring platform can be combined with the tender garage to directly dock the tender on the yacht when it has been hoisted out of the water.
As well as using mooring platforms for tenders, they can also be used for docking the superyacht at the quay. Mooring platforms provide the crew with an outstanding overview of the situation, preventing damage and hazards during the process.
With our platforms and balconies beautifully concealed in the yacht’s structure, our yacht equipment is almost invisible when walking around the vessel. To increase the lifespan and give our products a perfect high-gloss finish, the platforms are faired and painted using the same quality paint as the yacht.
All Cramm yacht equipment satisfies all design standards, providing a perfect match for every super or mega yacht and can be provided with any required certification. Looking for a specifc design or features for your yacht equipment, contact us with your wishes and one of our employees will contact you soon.
Yacht Balconies
Locating a platform higher on the deck enables it to be transformed into an elegant luxury balcony, increasing the space on board the yacht. Cramm yacht balconies are designed to take maximum advantage of the space, technology and materials while ensuring maximum safety and security. When folded down, balconies offer a 180-degree view forward, making it comfortable to sit above the water. Adding a balcony to a cabin or saloon will add even more light and gives the area a spacious feel. If the owner prefers not to have the crew interrupting and walking through their cabin, a completely automatic balcony can be created, providing maximum privacy in the master cabin.
Whether it is lightweight aluminium, super yacht quality paint or electric or hydraulic driven equipment, our experienced team and exclusive suppliers are what make our products unique, durable and focused on the future. Cramm products are known for their high quality and long lifespan, which is why Cramm is the preferred supplier for many shipyards. Our experienced team delivers outstanding craftmanship and we use only the best materials, enabling Cramm to deliver a solid warranty after the transfer of the vessel to the owner.

Working with Cramm over the last 3 years has been a pleasure. Cramm equipment is built to a very high standard, and unlike some bespoke equipment found on yachts, has proven to be very reliable. The installation of Cramm equipment has been carried out by experienced technicians with maintenance in mind for access to serviceable components.
Cramms service engineers are extremely knowledgeable of their systems, routine service visits incorporate thorougher inspections of equipment, often detecting potential problems before they occur. Cramms service engineers are always very careful with keeping clean and not making a mess. Working areas are always very well protected before work commences, and left as found. I would definitely recommend Cramm for hydraulic equipment as one of the leading company’s in the industry.

For me it is a big advantage that our companies are relatively close to each other. This makes the verbal communication much more efficient. Short lines often work better. So also the follow up of appointments and agreements work well is my experience. What I also notice about Cramm is that in principle everything is negotiable in a good way, as well the somehow bigger challenges. Cramm is a beautiful Dutch company to work together with.

The Rundown: An All Encompassing Look at the New NRS Slipstream Raft
Welcome to: “The Rundown”. In our newest editorial series, we’ll provide an all-encompassing look at the latest and greatest products from your favorite brands in the fly fishing and outdoor space. Here, we’ll run over high-level info, tech specs, and our opinions – all paired with a behind-the-scenes interview with product designers who have poured their hearts into bringing these creations from blueprints to the showroom floor.
In this Rundown, we’ll look at the newest release from Idaho-based fishing and whitewater vessel company, NRS , to bring you an all-encompassing look at their latest release: The “Slipstream” Fishing Raft .
Background:
If you’re floating down any river West of the Mississippi, on any given warm and sunny day, there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing an NRS raft making its way down current as well. These iconic watercrafts have been a staple to the angling community, as well as the white water community for decades now.
Based out of Moscow, Idaho; NRS or NorthWest River Supplies, has been manufacturing watercrafts and other river-sport necessities (such as apparel, Life jackets, technical gear, and much more), since 1972. In 2014, following NRS founder, Bill Parks’ retirement, the company became 100% employee-owned. This is a rarity in our modern, fast-paced economy, and is an approach that sets NRS apart from any other river-product manufacturer out there.
Over the course of the last few years, NRS has heard an increased amount of demand from the angling community for more fishing-focused products and has taken the feedback in stride. With the release of everything from fishing appare l and outerwear, to new fishing-conscious PFDs and Kyaks, NRS has been dumping time, money, and resources into meeting the needs of the rapidly expanding conventional, and fly fishing communities.
It’s a culmination of these efforts which have led to the birth of what we’re talking about today; the NRS Slipstream Fishing Raft . Or as we see it, A fishing raft like no other.
What’s New:
When it comes to the Slipstream Fishing Raft , there are a ton of new features that have been put in to accommodate angling needs. Below, we’ll highlight which ones we think are most notable, and why:
- (From NRS ): “Slipstream rafts feature a streamlined design with deliberately placed d-rings, handles, and valves to reduce weight and eliminate catch points.”
One of the most annoying things that anglers experience when fishing out of a raft (or any boat/ vessel/ scenario), is line getting caught on things. Anyone who has ever fly-fished understands that fly-line was designed by the devil, and serves the sole purpose of getting wrapped around, tangled in, or caught up on anything that it can – including itself. With older raft models, things like casting platforms, protruding frames, and D-rings are the most common culprits when it comes to eating fly line. This is not only super frustrating to deal with when fishing, but can also severely damage your fly line. Which, we all know is pretty expensive.
The beauty of the Slipstream is that it was made with that issue in mind, and eliminated as many rings, valves, and other hazards for your line to get caught around. Most notably, the casting platforms.
- “4” drop-stitch floor provides a super stable platform, eliminating the need for casting platforms. Insert is protected inside a zippered PVC pocket.”
Speaking of the loss of casting platforms, we believe the drop-stitch floor is the key element that sets this raft apart from the rest…
With this new design, gone are the days of dancing around/balancing on elevated plastic floors while trying to fish. The new, 4″ drop-stitch floor runs level from the front of the boat to the back, providing a single, sturdy floor for all anglers and the rower to share. This doesn’t only greatly improve the front and rear angler’s experience, but also provides a sturdy and flat floor for gear storage, such as coolers, fly boxes, dry boxes, and whatever else you want on your boat.
Additionally, the floor is lined with an EVA foam pad which provides great traction, even when wet. It also features an additional valve, located conveniently underneath the rower’s seat, which can be inflated or deflated independently from the rest of the raft, at any time.
- “[Includes] Fishing Rod Holder to stow (2) 9′ rods”
One extra item that is provided in the Deluxe package, which we think is definitely worth mentioning, is the aluminum rod holder which can be attached to either side of the frame. We know from first-hand experience, the easiest place to break a rod, is in a crowded raft. In the chaos of fishing, or even just entering and exiting the raft, a slight misstep can result in $1000+ down the drain, or at least an inconvenient Saturday spent mailing your precious fly rod back to the manufacturer for repair. Neither option is very fun – but it’s something we’re all super familiar with.
This rod holder is made to line the outside of the frame, and conveniently stores your party’s fly rods in a way they’re easily accessible, and also out of harm’s way.
- “The frame includes an internally routed anchor system that’s controlled from the rower’s seat…”
The last insanely cool feature we want to make sure to talk about is the new Slipstream Fishing Raft’s internal anchor system. With almost every other fishing raft, the anchor rope lines the side of the raft and is exposed. This can lead to the rear angler getting tangled with the anchor rope, things getting caught in it, and unnecessary weathering from exposure to the elements.
With the Slipstream fishing raft, however, the anchor rope runs from the sidebar beside the rower’s seat, through the actual raft frame, and out of the frame in the back to the anchor. This creates just one more element of streamlined engineering that keeps unnecessary obstacles out of the way of the raft’s users.
Tech Specs:
Here is the full tech spec sheet from the NRS website.
( Note: these are the specs for the Slipstream 139 Raft , which is the raft shown in the photos within this article. For other models, please reference the “specs” noted on the NRS Slipstream 120’s Page , or the NRS Slipstream 96’s Page . These specs are also for the “Deluxe package”, see website for more details).
Our experience:
In the Spring of 2021, we were privileged enough to receive one of the first prototypes of the NRS Slipstream Fishing Raft to test out on our home waters. Since then, this raft has been dragged over rocks, sent through white water, bounced off of trees, caught by hundreds of hooks, left out in the sun, rain, and snow – and has yet to give us a single reason not to love it.
It’s important when reviewing a product to point out the shortcomings as well as what we like, but we’ve had a lot of difficulty doing so. This raft is an amazing size for running medium to large rivers but is versatile enough to be used on small rivers, and even stillwater. With its streamlined construction and drop-stitch floor, our angling experience has been greatly enhanced, and we’ve spent so much more time fishing, and so much less time trying to untangle the line.
All this being said, we are even baffled by the price. You can buy the raft’s “Deluxe Package”, which features all the contents above, for all under $6k. In our opinion, that’s pretty unbelievable.
We don’t want to give away too much more, here. But, stay tuned for our Full Gear Review on the NRS Slipstream Fishing Raft which will be coming soon.
An interview with NRS Fishing Manager: Mike Dolmage
In our final portion of “The Rundown” we had a chance to ask NRS Fishing Manager, and someone who has been working on the slipstream since it was just words on paper: Mike Dolmage. Here’s what he had to say about his experience in the Slipstream’s design process:
Flylords: Who are you and what is your position at NRS ?
Mike: I’m the NRS Fishing Category Manager and Hardgoods Product Manager. I’ve been a passionate fly angler for over 30 years, living life in search of the next cast. Fall and winter seasons you’ll find me swinging Pacific Northwest waters for steelhead and in search the rest of the year for new adventures on the fly. When not on the water, I’m involved with the preservation and conservation of our waters and resources as anglers.

Flylords: What was your role in bringing the NRS Slipstream Fishing Raft to life?
Mike: My role was creating the vision for a complete NRS Fishing raft package. I conducted extensive research to identify the key features that anglers and rowers demand on a fishing watercraft. We were focused on providing ultimate stealth fishing watercrafts for the adventure angler seeking remote fishing areas off the beaten path, and on keeping the angler focused on fishing without concerns of stability, line snags, or whitewater performance. Based upon the feedback we created conceptual CAD for the fishing raft package, and collaborated with our frame shop to make the Slipstream series of fishing rafts a reality. The Slipstream series of fishing rafts were successfully launched in 2022, and the Slipstream 120 won the 2022 IFTD Best Of Show Boat/Personal Watercraft. I’ve continued to travel all over North America and introduce the adventure possibilities of the Slipstreams.
Flylords: From start to finish, where did the Slipstream see the biggest challenges?
Mike: The biggest challenge of the Slipstreams has been navigating the supply chain hurdles that continue to impact manufacturers and factories since Covid. Keeping up with the demand has been an awesome and difficult task at the same time. We work tirelessly to keep Slipstreams rolling out to customers.
Flylords: What was the initial thought process behind the Slipstream? What role was it made to fit?
Mike: The initial thought process behind the Slipstreams was to utilize NRS’s 50-year whitewater river heritage, and provide watercrafts that allow anglers to explore waters they haven’t considered before. We keep the adventure angler at the core of our product inspiration empowering them to take any journey the imagination can think of. The Slipstreams were designed to handle any type of water, and lightweight enough to transport/launch without a trailer or boat ramp.
Flylords: What kind of angler would you say each Slipstream model is built for?
Mike: The Slipstream 139 – designed for big water multi-day adventures or single-day outings with maximum cargo space and room for two anglers and a rower.
Slipstream 120 – designed for ultimate water versatility on multi-day or single-day journeys that require whitewater or tight skinny stream stealth performance with a rower and up to two anglers.
Slipstream 96 – designed to pack the most performance and transportability into a watercraft for a rower and angler. The Slipstream 96 is lightweight and easy enough to transport rooftop or in the bed of a pickup.
Flylords: What are some of your personal favorite features of the Slipstream?
Mike: The internal anchor system running through the raft framework and out the center of the stern provides an anchor system without any exposed rope.
The drop-stitch floor with EVA texture provides a rock-solid lightweight platform for standing without the risk of slipping.
The Deluxe Slipstream packages offer a dual rod holder that allows the angler to keep extra rods rigged up for changing conditions on the water.
Flylords: How do you think the design of the slipstream will affect the way that NRS and other raft manufacturers will design their rafts moving forward?
Mike: The Slipstreams set the bar for future fishing watercrafts to be ultra-transportable but still capable of whitewater environments. We’ve transported Slipstreams for fishing adventures in anything from vehicles to helicopters and planes. The Slipstreams are an example of empowering anglers to reimagine a new horizon for adventures.

A Boat Designed to Be a Breath of Fresh Air
The creators of the latest vessel from Azimut Yachts went to great lengths to reduce its emissions, but even they won’t call it green.
By Ian Volner
Reporting from Milan
This article is part of our Design special section about water as a source of creativity.
In the middle of Milan Design Week last month, in the middle of the Bagni Misteriosi — a historic bathing complex in the Porta Romana neighborhood — the Italian luxury shipbuilder Azimut Yachts hosted an unusual exhibition. It was a celebration of the company’s latest offering: the Seadeck 6, which made its debut last year and features interiors by the design team of Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez.
Having been lowered into the facility by crane, the nearly 60-foot vessel was set afloat in an outdoor swimming pool. There it bobbed, traversed by hordes of well-coiffed guests while a concealed apparatus shrouded it in bursts of atmospheric steam. Surreal, elegant, not a little absurd, it was a scene straight out of Fellini, with overtones of Werner Herzog’s boat-hoisting epic “Fitzcarraldo.”
But the thing that made it most unusual? “Azimut wanted to make this the most sustainable boat on the market,” Mr. Rodriguez said. “We tried to do that.”
The ultimate playthings for the ultrawealthy, high-end pleasure craft would not seem optimal candidates for greening. Yet a growing number of manufacturers and designers are trying to change that, producing yachts both large and (comparatively) small assembled from fewer and less carbon-intensive materials, requiring a fraction of the power to run and drawing more of their energy from renewable sources.
In a peculiar twist for an industry uniquely exposed to supply-chain shocks and the vicissitudes of geopolitics (the loss of the once-lucrative Russian market continues to smart), global brand leaders appear to be making the move toward energy efficiency of their own accord, rather than in response to any explicit demand from their clientele.
“We will have to see if the world is ready,” said Giovanna Vitelli, Azimut’s chairwoman, as she stood aboard the Seadeck 6 during its not-quite maiden, not-quite voyage.
It is an approach that entails some risk. In January, Silent Yachts — an Austrian solar-electric catamaran company with facilities in Fano, Italy — was reported to be approaching bankruptcy amid problems with both its corporate parent and a key subcontractor. A former client stepped in to rescue the brand from insolvency, yet challenges remain. In a recent interview with the trade publication Superyacht News, the company’s new chief operating officer, Fabrizio Iarrera, spoke of the “costs associated with creating an entirely new market.”
Still, the push toward more sustainable yachting appears to be barreling forward, part of a broader shift in the role of design in the industry. Seven years ago, Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture in New York — known for its plush hotel interiors for the hospitality magnate Ian Schrager — was invited by Azimut’s sister company Benetti to develop a new yacht concept, the Oasis. It was one of the rare instances in which Benetti, founded in 1873, had sought out collaborators with no previous maritime experience, and all parties took it as an opportunity to import a set of values they viewed as lacking in the boating world.
According to Enrico Bonetti, the architecture firm’s co-founder, boat design previously favored grand spaces that no one actually liked. “There’s always this big table nobody’s using, then you step into another place with shiny things,” he said. “We didn’t follow that.” With its open, airy living space, wood paneling and notable lack of gold leaf, the Oasis represented a more humane vision for the yacht of the future, one constrained by at least the appearance of refinement and reserve, though it was ritzy nonetheless.
That low-key tendency is very much in line with the decarbonization campaign now underway at Azimut and other builders. In recent years, design studios like Zaha Hadid Architects and Pininfarina have turned out yacht proposals that pair sleek visuals with reduced reliance on fossil fuels; later this year, Yves Béhar, the Swiss-born product and furniture maestro, will unveil his own take on the trend — a catamaran designed for an as-yet unnamed manufacturer. “It’s essentially an E.V.,” said Mr. Béhar, who was also in Milan for the design fair.
Underlying the designer eco-yacht phenomenon is the intuitive sense, as Antonio Rodriguez put it, that “silent luxury” is fast displacing opulence. Where previous generations of yachters sought to flaunt their wealth, today’s owners may be less keen to draw attention to their own affluence. In reducing their carbon footprint, boatmakers are hoping to lure customers eager to reduce their profile, while still allowing them to ply the seven seas in style.
The Seadeck 6 certainly does that. With a crisp, white exterior — the work of the veteran yacht designer Alberto Mancini — the ship sleeps up to eight in three below-deck cabins. Topside, guests can sprawl in fore and aft lounges, or take lunch prepared in a semi-concealed galley, served on an elegant foldout table. The interior palette is muted, the contours soft, and everywhere, Ms. Vitelli said, the intention was to let people “feel close to water” rather than immuring them in an oceangoing penthouse.
Relatively speaking, the Seadeck’s ecological credentials are also impressive. Nearly every feature has been retooled for minimal environmental impact: replacing the customary teak deck with sustainably sourced cork; covering the walls and upholstering the seating with organic and recycled materials; even sealing the hull with something the company refers to as an ‘eco-gel finish.’” Most important, the craft incorporates a still-novel (for marine propulsion) hybrid engine, capable of a top speed of 33 knots with the ability to navigate about 200 miles offshore — enough for a quick spin from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas.
Add it together, and the company claims the Seadeck 6 and its larger cousin, the 71-foot Seadeck 7, achieve an operational carbon output 60 percent that of comparable vessels.
It’s a start, but only that. A comparative analysis with a similarly sized Azimut product — coupled with statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency — suggests that the cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau would contribute roughly 4,400 pounds of carbon dioxide on the Seadeck 6, well over what the average American produces in a month.
And then there are the more immediate costs: around $2.8 million for the Seadeck 6 and $4.25 million for the Seadeck 7. Ms. Vitelli said the company hopes that enough buyers will come aboard to make price reductions possible in future.
A lot is riding on these hopes. Elsewhere in Milan, at the giant exhibition hall of the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, a talk session with a group of yacht experts underscored the stakes: During the panel, Stefano de Vivo, the chief commercial officer of the luxury yacht brand Ferretti Group, presented a slide showing Italy’s dominance in the custom-yacht sector, with domestic manufacturers taking a large share of the $9 billion global marketplace.
Mr. de Vivo declared sustainability essential to shipbuilding’s ongoing success and spoke of a general convergence with the design field at large. “As a shipyard, we’ve had to become less ‘marine,’” he said.
Back at the Bagni Misteriosi, mariners did seem in somewhat short supply, as various design lovers and Salone personalities (including the celebrated architect Michele de Lucchi, who helped create an on-site installation for Azimut) swanned around the bathhouse garden and its waterborne centerpiece. As an image of an ecologically sensitive future, the spectacle seemed off the mark — but then the Seadeck’s creators are careful not to make any overly sweeping claims as to whether their yacht, or any yacht for that matter, can truly be deemed an ecological asset.
“We don’t really like the word ‘sustainable,’” Mr. Rodriguez said. “We prefer to say it’s ‘conscious.’”

Pembroke Bay gets swimming platform
BEACHGOERS at the Pembroke side of L’Ancresse Bay are now able to swim out to a platform recently installed by the Guernsey Sports Commission – and similar platforms could soon be installed in other bays around the island.
The platform is part of the commission’s Aqua Smart programme, through which it works closely with primary schools to improve children’s water confidence.
It measures 3m x 3m and comes with a ladder designed for Guernsey’s tidal range, two jumping areas, and some space for advertising. It will be installed in the bay every year between May and September.
Sports Commission outdoor and adventure sports development officer Alan Jenner said the idea of a platform had been worked on for the past year-and-a-half.
‘It’s the perfect location as the beach here is easy to access and safe,’ he said.
‘Children will be able to have a fun, safety-first sea swimming experience, and we encourage people to come down and give it a go.’
Mr Jenner said that planning and implementing the platform had been a ‘torturous’ journey and had involved extensive discussion with UK-based company The Pontoon and Dock Company regarding specifications.
‘This is the first time Pontoon and Dock has ever had to design something for a tidal range as big as Guernsey’s, so making sure all the measurements were correct and that it would be weighed down sufficiently was a challenge.’
‘All in all, £2,000 has been spent on safety considerations, and now I’m just delighted that it’s in place and ready to use.’
He also thanked local businesses Geomarine, Ronez and Donkey Delivers for their help installing the platform and Rocq Capital which has sponsored it.
Sports Commission relationships director Steve Sharman said the commission worked closely with Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services staff to secure all of the necessary permissions for the installation.
‘We hope it will be enjoyed by the whole community. Huge thanks to our sponsors, Rocq Capital, who have been instrumental in making this a reality,’ he said.
Rocq Capital chairman Stewart Perfitt said that if there was positive feedback about the platform at Pembroke, the company and commission would look to extend the initiative to other bays.
‘This aligns seamlessly with our ongoing efforts to support initiatives that promote health and wellness within the community,’ he said.
‘We eagerly anticipate the positive impact of the swimming platform at Pembroke Bay.’

How Royal Romance, a $200-Million Superyacht, Will Benefit Ukraine

Though superyachts are often seen as the frivolous toys of the wildly rich, one named Royal Romance could soon provide more than just a lavish vacation for those who can afford it. According to The Guardian , a $200-million superyacht once owned by Russian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk will soon be put up for auction, with the sale funds going directly to supporting the people of Ukraine.
Medvedchuk, who is currently under sanctions, was arrested in Ukraine in April, though he was sent back to Russia in September through a prisoner exchange. The superyacht was seized in March of this year in Croatia as part of Western-imposed restrictions on the assets of oligarchs. According to the British paper, a Croatian court has recently ruled that the boat can be transferred to a special branch of the Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian Asset Recovery and Management Agency (Arma), and sold at auction to maintain its economic value.
Royal Romance was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and built in 2015 by Dutch shipbuilders Feadship. Seymour Diamond was responsible for the ship’s interiors. Fit to hold 14 guests and 22 crew members, the 318-foot vessel also includes many notable amenities, including a swimming pool, gym, 3D cinema room, and fully equipped spa.
Though multiple superyachts have been seized over the past months, this is the first to be auctioned with the funds going directly to Ukrainian people. In September , a yacht owned by Dmitry Pumpyansky was auctioned off, but the sale went to J.P. Morgan, which claimed Pumpyansky owed the investment firm $21.75 million. Though it’s possible more of the seized yachts will be auctioned to support Ukraine in the future, as The New York Times reported, seizing and auctioning off assets is rarely a straightforward process. In the United States the Justice Department is working to expedite the process, but it can still take years.

Of course, it's easier to launch and retrieve a jet-drive like the Ribjet 10 Sport tender. You can just submerge the platform and drive the boat on and off. The 10 Sport weighs 570 pounds dry, including the 60-horsepower Rotax jet package. I figure with fuel, PFDs, anchor, and other gear we're at 650 pounds. Still OK.
Our platforms are built-to-order fiberglass decks reinforced with structural marine balsa wood. The platforms cost $.40 per square inch, not including under-platform mounting brackets (again, spaced one every two feet) and other accessories. (The company quotes $691.20 for a standard 72-inch by 24-inch platform.)
